*Updated 26May** i had a call from the owner who has since refunded me for our stay and discussed improvements that are in process including a refurbishment and change of management, the latter which has already been actioned. He was very keen to take onboard our feedback and is looking to make significant improvements in the coming months. My original review is posted again below for completeness and i have increased our rating from 1 to 2 out of 5 in acknowledgment of the owners desire to improve this hotel and in recognition of the refund he has since provided. I felt compelled to write my first ever tripadvisor review after staying at this hotel for 2 nights in April. We booked a two night stay at the last minute as part of a quickly constructed road trip following cancellation of our family Easter trip East (cancelled due to the Middle east conflict). A family of 5 always means two rooms and a lot of expense but K A appealed due to the presidential tents which could comfortably sleep our family. The website looked amazing, Hotels.Com (where we booked) gave it an ‘excellent’ rating. We have stayed in a lot of 5 star resorts across the world, and a lot of budget resorts too. So we have a good perspective on a range of quality. On paper KA ticked the 5 star box and we plugged in a 2 night treat towards the end of our holiday before a one night visit to a budget place in Imlil, then ending on a high at Kasbah Bab Ourika. Having the perspective over even just this holiday, comparing Kasbah Agafay to Kasbah Bab Ourika for example, this compelled me to have to give people fair warning before booking Kasbah Agafay. There simply was nothing 5 star about K A. alarm bells rang the moment we checked in. so much so, I quickly checked for any new reviews on Google/tripadvisor/hotels.com and this made us really nervous to be staying at this hotel after reading the most recent reviews. - The hotel is not maintained, half of it is derelict (tennis court, garden/outdoor kitchen area, patio areas) and the gardens are not maintained despite clearly having a lot of beautiful planting from it’s history as a good hotel. - The staff seem untrained and seem to be incentivized only to sell you dinner, excursions, cookery classes and other upsell opportunities. At no point did any staff member interact with us except to try and sell us something like a desert trip or cookery class. After reading the most recent reviews, we avoided even engaging on this and stayed clear. - One example of this lack of service quality was the day we arrived. We wanted lunch after a long journey from Essauira. We were not provided a menu, just told that the option was ‘chicken skewers, morrocan salad and chips’. After a long wait, we ordered that, plus drinks. After around 1 hour the food and some drinks arrived. The young water spilt one of the soft drinks and after some persuasion took it away and brought a fresh one (see more on the ‘bill’ below). We waited for the remaining two drinks but they didn’t arrived so when I asked about them the staff member said other guests had been ordering desert hence the delay. Obviously wasn’t reality (we saw maximum 4 other guests in the entire hotel) and they had forgotten. - The staff do everything possible to not show you the pricing. This strategy is all about you building a bill that is then demanded as you leave. One example of this strategy is that their menu (which of course they have to share with you eventually) shows 350MAD per person for dinner. But their chef told us it was 450MAD with tax (at this point we had already decided we were not spending another penny in this place). Even that didn’t make sense as tax seemed to be 20%. All very strange. - Prices are unreal. For reference, the two nights we stayed there, we had the driver we had used to get us to Agafay take us out to dinner at two local places (one was Restaurant Chouf L'Or on the way to Marrakech, the other a local pizza place called La siciliana in Dar El Ain, both found on google maps and really good). The return trip cost 800MAD each time (around 80 Euros) and it was still cheaper than eating in the hotel and the food quality much better. - The wine list had the cheaper local wine – Cuvee President – for 650MAD a bottle (around 65 Euros). The same wine in Kasbah Bab Ourika (an amazing truly 5* place) was 190MAD! - At checkout, you feel under pressure to simply agree to the bill. I refused to do this, even for just a few pounds, as I was not willing to pay for a soft drink that the hotel waiter spilt. The response from the man at checkout was ‘we cannot remove it, the system will not let us make amendments’. I argued that that is incredulous, they must be able to correct mistakes. I said they need to resolve it and their offer was to give me another can of softdrink. What! I refused and in the end had to tell them that I was not paying for it and they had to take it off before we would pay. In the end, they agreed not to charge us for the drink that their waiter spilt but it still showed on our final invoice for some reason. - I read one review explaining how they felt threatened and ‘extorted’. Travelling with young children, the only comfort we had was that we had arranged a driver ourselves, not via the hotel, so we could escape for evening dinner and I felt that if it kicked off at check out our local driver would step in. checkout felt slightly intimidating with more staff arriving as the discussion progressed on the spilt drink, but with our kids in the car waiting i felt comfortable pushing back. - Breakfast was very poor, with fruit served up as 3 whole apples between five of us, plus some sliced orange. On day 3 we were served 4 egg dishes between 5 and had to ask for a 5th. Coffee was cold and disgusting. On both mornings we were there, we were the only people in the breakfast room. On the second day we asked for some water with breakfast, I pointed to a half used and obviously chilled large bottle of water on the table at the side of the dining room. The staff member instead went in the kitchen/a room off the dining room and appeared with a half drunk unchilled bottle to give us. I pointed again at the chilled water and finally was given that but instead of pouring it for the whole table, he poored one glass and took it away again! It was just very haphazard, disorganized and we just felt very uncomfortable. - On the day we checked out I used the toilet cubicles near the pool and went to close the door to the toilet and the handle just snapped off in my hand. - There is no ‘poolside bar’ despite it being advertised. - there is not 2 restaurants as billed. there is one room but it isn't really a restaurant as they forced you to book food 3 hours in advance if you want to eat there. - Wifi was intermittent and unreliable. - Breakfast is advertised as 8-11am but i went at around 8.30 our first morning and they said it starts at 9am - I did not see any TV in communal areas - The rooms were very tired (see pictures) and had limited toiletries and were not clean (I found a pair of underpants belonging to a previous guest when we checked out as I checked under the bed for anything we might have left) - Our shower head fell off the shower on day one. To be fair they did replace this, but it took 24 hours. - We booked via Hotels.com and asked for a refund which they could only give if the hotel agreed. They refused, saying the only issue was the shower head and that was fixed. I looked on Google earth using the historical image function when we got home to see if I could see how this hotel had evolved to what it is today. It clearly has been neglected in recent years. It clearly has once been an amazing place, but seems a lack of investment and poor/limited staff is letting it down and they are still trying to live of it's past glory. 100% avoid and go elsewhere if you truly want a 5* experience.

Location and facilities were excellent. Nice garden, room, terrace, pool etc. Staff very supportive and friendly.
Everything was perfect here.
An amazing Kasbah, the decoration is traditional and extremely beautiful. The staff makes you feel home, and will ensure you get a fantastic service. The food is next level good: best tajine ever ! Gorgeous room with very good bed. (We never sleep that good !)
Rien!
Really hard to review this property as we arrived during unseasonably cold and wet weather. I can imagine that on a balmy, night, the lovely gardens, grounds and outdoor facilities are great, but not so much in the rain. There was a log fire on arrival in the Kasbah and that was nice. And the staff tried really hard.
Pool was advertised as heated - it is not Bath in our (otherwise nice) tent did not work at all, and shower was poor. Road noise - not much could be done about this, but a consideration if staying in one of the tents. Food - not bad, but expensive for what it was. Nice glass of wine though.
breakfast was simple but tasty. Location perfect for our vacation. Would have liked to stay longer. Dinner was excellent - best tagine we have had.
dont know
We could not have been happier with our stay in this unique and very special place. As it was Ramadan and early in the season, we were the only guests, which made the whole experience feel like a quiet adventure, having the place to ourselves. We spent a lot of time by the pool and in the surrounding areas. It was early March so still a little cool, but when the sun came out it was the perfect spot to relax. The pool is not heated, which didn’t bother us in the least, coming from Ireland we’re well used to a refreshing dip! Afternoons were spent in one of the large tents, having lunch, then stretching out on low sofas and soft cushions for a rest. The wider grounds are truly beautiful. We arrived just after an unseasonably rainy spell, so everything was lush and green. Orange trees in fragrant blossom, and all sorts of flowering plants thriving across the patios and quiet corners. We were given a tour of the property and were particularly taken with the cookery school, set within a generous herb and vegetable garden. There is also a lovely space used for yoga retreats, and a large hammam and spa, which was closed during our stay for renovations. The ongoing care and improvement of the place is very evident, and speaks to how thoughtfully it is run. Our room was beautiful, set beside a small riad courtyard which I imagine would be especially welcome in hotter weather. The communal spaces are many, and each one has been created with real care. Traditional textiles, antiques, and reclaimed architectural pieces such as old wooden doors and tables give a strong sense of the Kasbah’s history, while still feeling comfortable and easy to settle into. The original artwork, particularly the photography, adds another layer of interest. We chose to have all our meals at the Kasbah over our four-day stay, and I’m very glad we did. The evenings were cool, so the staff set a table for us beside an open olive wood fire, which was both cosy and atmospheric.
As I mentioned, the time of year (early March) was a little chilly in the evenings. Although this is obviously not within the control of the property, but perhaps a few wraps/blankets could be available in the large communal space for the evenings. That said, if we’d have asked, I’m sure they would have been provided!
Really nice staff, a very beautiful location and kasbah.
There was no mini fridge in the room.
Gorgeous renovated Kasbah. Traditional stay. Enough room for all of us in the executive suite. We felt like we were living in shabby-chic luxury. Staff was excellent.
Hidden fees. Beware when booking via booking.com. There are hidden fees, and the additional costs are very high for the area. For example, dinner for is 450dh, probably high because there are no other options nearby, but this was fine. Though the total for dinner was a lot more than the quoted 450dh, but this is on us for not asking for more information upon checkout (we were unfortunately in a rush). The unfortunate issue is that we booked through booking.com and prepaid but the hotel staff didn’t know this or pretended not to and charged us for the room again upon checkout. When they were shown receipts that proved that we were double charged, they continued to insist that the first charge never happened. There was also an additional fee for the camel rides (transport to the desert as this is not on site) that we were charged upon checkout. They never warned us about this charge. We were happy to pay it but I recommend that you ask them for all costs upfront, including transports to activities, to avoid surprises.
Relaxed environment and attentive staff. Fabulous food. Just lovely authentic shabby chic Morocco
Food!!!!! Expensive and not ok
The location of the hotel was great and the setting for dinner and breakfast really excellent. But for the money you pay I think there were lots of things that could be improved on. For 160GBP per night I would expect a hairdryer in the room. We got one after asking but a really cheap tiny one. No kettle or fridge. Got a kettle eventually but didn’t arrive until asked again The room as you would expect v dark but no reading lights and the mattress not good quality and the duvet incredibly heavy. We did get the check out time wrong but they were gracious about it. Set dinner menu nice but no idea what it actually was apart from chicken. No drinks list or idea how much anything costs until the bill arrives. No fruit at breakfast even though I asked. The staff v sweet but didn’t have a great command of English. Pool nice and clean
Fabulous location and has the potential to be the most amazing hotel, but charging 5* money for 2-3* service unfortunately.
Staff need to have a lesson in customer service. No prices available for drinks or food. Room not worth the money, unless you are sharing .... didn't realise the Presidential Suite had 2 bedrooms!
If you need a place to stop from the busyness of life and be still in a place that offers a welcoming and calm atmosphere, great hospitality and great food then this is the place to be. This was my first time to Morocco, and even though I booked last minute Faouzia helped me arrange airport transfer with very little notice. When I first arrived I was captivated by the beauty of the Kasbah, the decor, and the consisent bird song heard by the pool. The staff were so kind and friendly from my arrival to leaving, and being a solo traveller, this only added to my sense of feeling safe and very relaxed. I was also able to arrange a massage on site which was fantastic. Thank you to all the staff at Kasbah Agafay you made my first trip to Morocco an exceptional time, and a time that I will forever be grateful to have had. A special thank you to Faouzia, Muhammed, Hamid, Hassan and Maria. It really is an oasis in the desert!

A great restoration with an authentic feel. It now feels tired and in need of renovations. The bed was clean and comfortable but the furniture/ floor mats/ bathroom had seen better days . Spa?yoga? ? Tv in roomThe food was poor with little choice. However the staff were delightful- friendly and helpful. It felt strange being in such a vast kasbah with only 3/4 other people. Definitely NOT a luxury hotel and should not be described as such. We were very disappointed.
We stayed at Kasbah Agafay during the last week of July, and the experience was simply unforgettable. The hotel, a former fortress carefully converted into a boutique hotel, preserves all the authenticity and traditional beauty of Marrakech while offering comfort, charm, and hospitality in a unique setting. The pool is extraordinary—spacious, surrounded by olive trees and gardens, and a true haven under the desert sun. Breakfast served by the pool was one of the highlights of our stay: fresh, varied, and with that personal touch that makes all the difference. The rooms are another treasure of the Kasbah: spacious, beautifully decorated with traditional Moroccan details, high painted ceilings, colorful carpets, and elegant wooden furniture. The beds are extremely comfortable, the linens of high quality, and every detail invites you to relax. Staying in these rooms feels like being immersed in a blend of history and comfort. The facilities retain the Moroccan style in every corner—from the courtyards with fountains to the colorful lounges and the peaceful gardens. It feels like stepping back in time without giving up modern comfort. But above all, what makes Kasbah Agafay truly remarkable is the service. We arrived late at night and were welcomed with a dinner prepared especially for us—a gesture that already showed the level of care of the staff. During our stay, my youngest daughter fell ill (completely unrelated to the hotel), and the way everyone was helpful and attentive exceeded any expectation: they prepared separate meals, were available at all times, and showed genuine concern. I would especially like to highlight Faouzia, the hotel manager, whose dedication and attention to detail go far beyond what one could expect anywhere. She made us feel at home, like part of the family. Another highlight is the hotel’s location, perfect for exploring the surroundings: camel rides at sunset, quad bike adventures through the desert, and day trips to the Atlas Mountains are all easily accessible and highly recommended. Kasbah Agafay is not just a place to stay—it is an experience of hospitality, beauty, and Moroccan authenticity. Without a doubt, we will be back!
The calm and the inspiring design and decoration, the cleanness and the way they treat their guests. The food is outstanding, a genuine Moroccan mom food taste. Amazing rooftop views. The wine was on another level! The facilities top range the spa massages affordable and short notice. I genuinely recommend this hotel for big and small events as well.
We could not identify any negative aspects of the location since we were seeking a unique experience.
The manager was lovely and very helpful. She helped organise an outing for us. The setting was beautiful and all the staff were very friendly
It's an old building and a few things didn't work so we had to change rooms. Not much to do there for entertainment
The property is simply wonderful and the service excellent. Hamid went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. It’s a unique place with unique people. Highly recommended!
L accueil et la gentillesse du personnel... Chambre spacieuse, confortable, propre Domaine bien entretenu, piscine top ..
Where do I even begin? Kasbah Agafay is an absolute must-stay oasis on any journey through Morocco. Set in a peaceful location, it's perfectly positioned for easy access to both the Agafay Desert and the vibrant city of Marrakesh. The architecture is breathtaking, the gardens are immaculately maintained, and the sunsets are nothing short of magical. The rooms are equally stunning—beautifully designed and incredibly comfortable. But what truly sets this place apart is the people. Fouzia and her team were unbelievably kind and attentive. Their warmth and hospitality are what make Kasbah Agafay so special. We can’t wait to return next year.
Nothing! Everything over exceeded expectation.
Very nice place to stay in if you're planning to visit Agafay desert. Not far from Marakech. Owner did a great job on renovating and decorating the place. Staff and nice and helpful
Dinner at the restaurant was great
Staff are amazing and accommodative. Kasbah was as you’d expect and was very authentically Moroccan. Food is far more expensive than expected BUT it was some of the best we experienced during our trip. They also made sure everything was freshly prepared and would cook additional items they knew we liked. The staff member Hamid was a gentleman and gave us a great insight into the culture, people and food. He is a huge asset to the Kasbah.
The Kasbah is beautifully restored, and it’s nice to feel like you’re staying in a part of authentic history. Faouzia and her team are so wonderful and welcoming, they taught us a lot about the local area and the history, and went above and beyond to help with anything we needed, and the food was amazing as well. It’s a very peaceful and convenient location at the gateway to the desert but still only a 25min taxi from Marrakech Medina, and all the activities of the desert are easy to get to.
Nothing :)
The hotel was beautiful. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Fuzia was amazing. She is an angel.
Nothing.
We had a very warm welcome and were well looked after pre visit and during our stay. Faouzia and her staff treated us like friends coming to stay in their home.
We liked everything. There are a lot of steps which may not suit all guests and it would be good to know that.
We stay only one night in this delightful hotel close to the Agafay desert. We take a relaxing break from the caotic Marrakesh enjoying the pool, the marvellous presidential suite and the delicious breakfast. The staff of the hotel was very nice and help us to organise a camel ride in the desert and a beautiful dinner with show.
None
We’ve worked with many hotels while organizing group trips, and Kasba Agafay stands out as one of the most professional and well-run places we’ve encountered. Every aspect of our stay was handled with care and attention to detail — from the smooth logistics to the warm hospitality. Among all the stops on our journey, this was by far the most memorable. Highly recommended for both individual travelers and organized groups.
Very nice location, great room. It was a very good experience !!!
Service was absolutely amazing, the way the hotel was designed and put together was breath taking! Faouzia was so welcoming and taught us a lot about this history of Kasbah
Nothing
Our family of four stayed in two tents and we all loved it. The tents were great, spacious and very comfortable. The staff was wonderfully friendly and accommodating. We ate all of our meals at their restaurant and found the food fantastic. The seasonal salad was a great break from the very meat-heavy diet of the previous few days. And it was peaceful to eat lunch in the shade near the pool. The pool was big, refreshing, and wonderful. The whole space was an intimate oasis in the agafay desert. We had a car and enjoyed the flexibility of driving into the agafay desert. I think without a car, we could also have arranged a trip to one of the resorts in the desert. (But reservations are helpful to have before picking a resort in agafay.) We drove in to Le boudouin to ride camels. If we stayed longer, we probably would've spent a half day and had a meal at Le Boudouin or Inara. But we would still stay at Kasbah Agafay. Lovely, intimate place.
The setting is beautiful and the room was perfect. Very friendly staff of the hotel (the servants from the restaurant are friendly but chaotic). The pool was great.
You really need to work hard on the restaurant-concept: the prices are incredibly high, the waiting times super long (we waited twice for more than 1,5h for the lunch) and quality is just average. Paying 40€ (400 MAD) for plain pasta with tomato-sauce for each of our children is just absurd and unacceptable, sorry. It is a real shame that the restaurant is that bad, because the rest of the hotel is truly very nice! Due to the location, there are no alternative restaurants nearby, so you are stuck with a very very bad deal that just ruins the experience.
A breathtaking 18th century castle in the Agafay desert in Morocco! We experienced a fantastic greeting on arrival to Morocco. During our stay we sampled traditional Moroccan tea and traditional Moroccan cuisine. The rooms and the grounds! Just wow! A truly relaxing space. Along with the incredible panoramic views of the Agafay desert and the Atlas mountains. They arranged once in a life time activities for us including traditional Hammam, quad biking and camel rides in the Agafay desert. The staff wen't above and beyond to ensure our stay was one to remember.
The host was A MA ZING. We felt like Queens …. So respectfull and friendly… kamal , Mohammed and ayoub .. thanks for this day. The dinner was amazing, we had a tour in the hotel, and the pool was amazing ! Thanks for everything guys, u are special !
We had an unforgettable stay at Kasbah Agafay. The building is gorgeous with scenic views and the staff will go above and beyond for you. The hospitality was the best I have experienced. The hotel even organised quad biking in the desert, airport transfers, hotel transfers, spa treatments and everything in between. Thank you to all the staff at Kasbah Agafay for making our stay what it was, we won’t forget this trip!
Briłliant place to stay

Scenery was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Lovely facility to walk around & explore with beautiful gardens
We were made to feel like family from the moment we arrived. The property was stunning and the gardens were absolutely beautiful- photo opportunities everywhere! Dinner was absolutely delicious too!
Nothing
We enjoyed the location as we were going into the dessert for some activities and decided to stay here so it was easier for the kids. The hotel is very nice, very calm and very well maintained. The breakfast was delicious and the staff is very friendly.
Wonderful staff - attentive and helpful. Really chilled and relaxing vibe. We especially enjoyed the sundowner drinks on the roof terrace.
Nothing really. It was quiet when we were there, which of course is part of the appeal, but I can imagine it might feel a little awkward in the dining room in the evening if you were the only guests eating. The food wasn’t cheap but was delicious so I’d certainly eat there if you stay.
It was a beautiful building, very well decorated and quite authentic. Very atmospheric. A wonderful place to dtay and relax in.
Everything. The staff were wonderful
Amazing staff who helped us with everything. The place is clean and very traditional
Beautiful building, rooms and garden. Staff friendly, helpful and very welcoming. Incredible stars at night!
Nothing!
I’m a discerning traveler who is a little tricky to please. Everything about the Kasbah Agafay was phenomenal. Our stay began with a warm welcome from Laurent the manager and his assistant, Omar. My husband and I relaxed right away in the authentically sumptuous surroundings, the spacious bedroom and a bathroom you could easily park 2 cars in! From the monogrammed linen to the delicious food (plates especially prepared for my vegan husband), from the jaw-dropping rooftop views of the Atlas Mountains to the bountiful breakfast served overlooking the immense swimming pool, we loved our stay and will certainly return! Staff went out of their way before and during our stay to accommodate our every request. Our favourite of the 3 hotels we stayed at in the Marrakech area. Thank you!
Everything was wonderful.
Amazing staff, beautiful building and gardens.
Excellent place to stay. The historic kasbah is a great place to stay. We enjoyed our stay, and Laurent and the staff were wonderful.
nothing much.
On arrival the Kasbah is very impressive and the staff are amazing. The pool area is lovely. The rooms are nice - we had to move as our plumbing was dreadful. The lunch was amazing
The evening meal and breakfast were worse than basic. A very dated, tired dining space, no bar or anywhere to enjoy a drink before or after dinner.
The pool wasn’t heated but very refreshing in the desert heat. Loved the rooms and decor. Friendly staff. Well located, not too far from Marrakesh on edge of desert.
Over priced food and drink. No other option around so had no choice but to eat and drink there. The hotel was on the adage of the main road so a bit noisy for the location.
We liked everything about this amazing property, it is a « must go » The great hospitality, the beautiful and spacious rooms, the gardens, the food. We happened to sleep there while they were celebrating the 24th year of the kasbah and we were kindly invited by Laurent to join the celebrations. We highly recommend this beautiful and calm property and will come back again. We were traveling as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 boys 14 and 9). We all loved it.
Excelente atención de Laurent y Aisha!
The most gorgeous hotel I’ve ever stayed at! Beautiful aesthetic, friendly staff and a relaxing, peaceful ambience. We stayed here for 4 nights, with a short trip to Essaouira in the middle. The whole place had a really special feel and it made our holiday to Morocco incredibly memorable. They serve delicious food too! Having the Kasbah to return to after a day exploring the Medina is exactly what you need 😍
The decor and pool area were nice
There isn’t much to do in the property other than eating and chilling by the pool, we had to pay for dinner which was fine but there was no entertainment provided so we opted for a dinner in the desert with live music and entertainment (which was also cheaper than hotel dinner)
Loved our stay here. The hotel was traditional and had fabulous views. Our room was lovely and traditional style, and the staff were wonderful, attentive, and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing and a lot of food! We loved not having a menu in the evening and the surprise of dinner! The hotel was quiet which was just what we needed to relax, and before our next stop in the city. There is a yoga area and lovely lounge area where you can sit and read a book. Or sit by the pool and relax with towels provided.

Loved our stay here. The hotel was traditional and had fabulous views. Our room was lovely and traditional style, although a bit dark sometimes to find anything. We had a guided tour when we arrived which was nice. Some of the tented rooms looked fabulous! The staff were wonderful, attentive, and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was an amazing spread with a lot of food! We loved not having a menu in the evening and the surprise of dinner each evening! The food was fabulous. The hotel was quiet while we were there which was just what we needed to relax, and before our next stop in the city. There is a yoga area and lovely lounge area where you can sit and read a book. Or sit by the pool and relax with towels provided. Will definitely stay here again when back in Marrakech.
The personal was super nice, the food delicious, the place is beautiful and in great conditions. We had a great time there, the ambience in the night is gorgeous.
I suggest just to have a menu for example for the spa services
We loved this property. It is stunning! Our girls enjoyed the pool and so much space to run around and explore. I can't say enough good things about the staff. So warm and welcoming. The food was AMAZING!!! With no doubt we will return!!!
Amazing location and super staff
Everything was perfect
We came for the afternoon and had lunch by the pool, it was peaceful, beautiful and the staff were lovely. Lunch was delicious. We were on our way to the airport, otherwise we would have spent the night. We visited the rooms which were huge and seemed very comfortable. We would love to stay another time.
My husband and I spent one night here and found the staff to be very polite and friendly. Lovely and unique accommodations with comfortable beds, and quiet atmosphere. We enjoined a drink before dinner on the porch overlooking the lovely garden. The dinner we were served was delicious.
Really nice decoration, very clean and comfortable rooms. Very well looked after outside areas. Great food and fantastic friendly service from all staff. Can’t thank the staff enough. Bader and Hamid were great.
Lovely place, Bader and Hamid were great. And the rest of the staff always friendly and helpful we stayed at the beginning and the end of a Bikepacking trip and it was an excellent choice. Really nice decor, super clean, really nice pool. Food was really good and large portions. Very happy with it and will definitely be back.
Historic building
Staff’s behavior was unfriendly. The hotel is hard to find
Wonderful. The best hotel near Marrakech, everyone in the hotel was warm and nice, the view was gorgeous, the food is really delicious, every place in the hotel was quite suitable to take pictures, the room decorations are all very exquisite, I will definitely come back again bring my family here. You will never regret to come here, which will make you love Morocco.
Ultimately relaxing.
Completely relaxed just reading a good book at the fireplace in beautiful, ancient surroundings while being served tea and dinner whenever we wanted. Planning to come back during the warmer spring season.
Two owners and eople working at the hotel (especially Hamid and Bader) made us feel special and treated us like welcome family. Hotel has lot of local charm, romance and design and feels like you are in a story of '1001 nights'. Very warm stay!!
The berber style of the accomodations made it feel bit basic sometimes but in the end added to its charm as well.
The building is a beautiful old Moroccan fort. Spectacular inside and out. Great views. Friendly. Secure. Comfortable. Welcoming. The staff could not do enough for us. Travelling, first time to Marrakech and with my son, we arrived late at night. The staff were welcoming even though we were so very late. (1a.m.car trouble) In the morning they actually fixed my hire car for me! Breakfast was excellent and included. Just outside the city, perfectly located away from the chaos of Marrakech centre. No traffic noise. I can't recommend this hotel enough.
The staff was very kind and tried their best to help you/serve you. The place did had a charm and decoration was nice.
Poor value for money. Can’t call this a 5*. Website mentioned “heated pool”, the pool was ice cold. Great for Wim Hof training… We heard other guest wo went in say it was so cold it hurts. Location is not in Agafay desert but 20 min driving which costs 60€ (return). However when we took the transport the hotel wanted to charge us 80€ while communicating it would be 60€. You are closed in this oasis can’t go anywhere. Hotel charges ridiculous prices for activities. Website mentioned “bikes on site”, there are no bikes and they wanted to charge 150€ pp to bike… Regarding food they charge 35€ for lunch and 45€ for diner (excluding drinks) which is way too much for the quantity you get moreover the salads were filled with insects. They didn’t communicate a menu or the cost upfront but afterwards. As you’re located near nothing you have only the option to eat there or pay 60€ for the taxi somewhere in Agafay. We had to wait 1,5h for lunch. The shower is cold. Rooms are very dark. Heating wasn’t working… Pictures online look way nicer. The website and Instagram make you think it’s a nice yoga hotel with activities however everything is very expensive. I can go on…
Beautiful property, ultimate luxury, charming architecture, quiet location, amazing service and food! Badr hicham and Hamid took care of us round the clock! Views are beautiful! Will visit again!
Nothing I can think of
The Berbers are known for their hospitality and it is one reason we have so fallen in love with Morocco, and try to visit the country every year; it’s really our love of the Berbers. So, when news struck of the earthquake, we were heartbroken. We had been due to visit the Asni area and our hotel had been damaged. Weweighed in our minds whether to cancel for fear of celebrating whilst the nation mourned, but on reflection we felt that it was important to spend our money in Morocco, to support the people that had always looked after us so well, so wee needed to find another hotel. And so it was that I chanced upon Kasbah Agafay. Organising the trip for a group of friends, I felt huge responsibility to find somewhere comfortable, with good food, friendly, relaxed and yet spoiling. We arrived hot and tired after a four hour drive (from our previous hotel in the Atlas - Agafay is only 30 mins from the airport) and were led to a charming table in the dappled shade of olive trees by the pool and soon appeared a delicious tagine and bottles of wine and our fraught edginess just melted away. One of my worries with booking so out of season was that the hotel would be empty and my fear was founded but instead of this feeling soulless and sad, it was quite the opposite, we had this beautiful characterful kasbah all to ourselves with our charming hosts Abel and Kenza to engage with and numerous charming staff to ply us with wine, teach us to cook tagines, book taxis to Marrakech, etc. With broken French we chatted to the staff (although many spoke very good English), only to hear all about their lives, the football club owning waiter with strong but mild tempered political views being a highlight. You really felt not just welcomed by the staff but like they were the most lovely people in the world. And none of this was unwanted or unwelcome. I’m sure if we hadn’t wanted to engage they wouldn’t have, so it wasn’t intrusive. The hotel is somewhat like an Escher painting (being empty we took delight in exploring) made up of separate Riads with rooms off a central courtyard, each Riad interlinking with the others. Every room is decorated uniquely and there isn’t a bad one. They are all colourful and exotically sultry, they are all well equipped and characterful. And the main reception rooms have many different areas to sit, read fascinating books, admire the antique emporium feel of the place, soak up the gentle peacefulness of the Berber culture. Unlike western hotels, we never once looked at a menu. The Agafay staff had asked out dietary requirements before we arrived and so food just arrived that never failed to delight. Whether it was breakfast lunch or supper, it was always traditional, delicious, unexpected and left us feeling healthy and well yet sumptuously cared for. As a foodie and a nutritional therapist, I don’t think I’d have been keen on this arrangement and yet the food they gave us was so utterly delicious, hearty enough for those with big appetites, yet healthy enough for those that care. In short, we waved goodbye to the Agafay staff with heavy hearts and yet, even now, a month later, feel we have made new friends, that we will undoubtedly see again, and that a little bit of the Agafay soul has been stitched into our hearts to draw us back again and again. The dream would be to fill the kasbah with all our friends for a true Moroccan house party. Let’s get saving…
