Central to Newcastle town and views over the Irish Sea. Food was tasty and staff were great and helpful. Room was clean, cute and comfortable.
Central friendly staff and lovely breakfast
Lovely atmosphere

It was central
Pretty basic for the price, bit dirty around the edges of the room
Staff were so good. Couldnt be nicer or more helpful. Great location right on the beach front. Everything on your doorstep. Rooms were beautifully decorated and so clean. Have already been telling anyone that listens how great the hotel was.

L'accueil et le personnel souriant et disponible, le restaurant très bon et très copieux
Le manque de lumière dans la chambre La taille de la chambre annoncée n'était pas la même : chambre plus petite que prévue
Location is excellent
Room too hot and stuffy. No air conditioning or fan
Everything the room decoration. The comfy bed, the bathroom. The sea view.
The breakfast service. No attention to customer. Waited 20 mins for tea another 20 mins for cooked breakfast. Nobody came to ask for order until we did. Nobody told us to help ourselves to cereal while we waited. Not that many people at breakfast either. Food wasn't great. Bacon was thin like supermarket bacon.
Excellent beds. Rooms very clean and beautiful decor. Very tasteful decor throughout. Lovely friendly staff
Breakfast was average I’m afraid .
The location
The room we were given was at the top of 3 flights of stairs and there isn’t a lift. There was no fridge in the room. The lighting was very poor in an already dark room. There was limited hanging space and no drawers to put anything in.
The location and staff were amazing
I loved the view from r room . The staff were amazing. The food great
The location was excellent, right on Main Street. The room was lovely and very comfy.
Fans in the room would be beneficial. Though we stayed at a particularly hot time
The location & seaviews were amazing. We stayed in.a family room which was huge. It had a double bed, single bed & set of bunkbeds. Plenty of space for 3 of us. My mummy had a king room which also had a set of bunkbeds. Staff were attentive and very pleasant! Cocktails were amazing!
Room cost 409 and the room was manky dirty dust everywhere bedding was lumpy shower was disgusting and there was help written in the dust on lamp shades so ye was a horrible stay!!! wouldnt come back
everything
Food location rooms and staff all amazing 👏
Nothing to not like
Everything from room room and staff all amazing 👏
Nothing i didn't like
The location was great and room was clean and bed was comfy.
Didn't like that there was no curtains, too much light coming through the roller blinds. Breakfast wasn't very well explained as we weren't aware of the table with fruit & yoghurt juices etc
Quirky, cosy friendly and comfortable - fabulous location right by the sea - room overlooked the sea. Staff couldn't do enough for you
The location, right onthe beach, was great :)
The hallways could be cleaner however the room was fine
Staff Comfy bed Spacious room
Lighting was very dim, even in bathroom
The room had a gorgeous rustic vibe with stunning view of the seafront & a very nice shower. The next morning we went to check out & I had ordered a coffee which we were told was included with our room despite not having booked breakfast that day. We were there for a wedding & we saw the staff interact with the bride and groom/other wedding party members and they were so so attentive and seemed genuinely interested & happy for them so it was lovely to see.
Clean, nice decor, very nice staff. We didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food. Shower was very nice!
The room was very cold overnight. Our room was at the rear of the property and open out directly onto an outdoor seating area.
Quirky hotel in a great location. Wonderful views from our room over the road from sea. Great atmosphere with very friendly and helpful staff. Large room with super king bed. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Room rate was a little pricey but there again you get what you pay for. Would recommend
Thick with Dust!! No change offered when paying Accommodation!
The location was incredible. The staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for you! The food was also incredible and reasonably priced. The room was clean and had an amazing view.
The WiFi wasn’t great, we couldn’t get anything to connect but we just used our own internet on our phones so it wasn’t a big deal. There were some quite loud guests on our floor which woke us up during the night but that is not at all the fault of the hotel, just a few people enjoying some drinks on a sunny day!
I had an EXCEPTIONAL experience at the Avoca Hotel! I had originally scheduled 4 nights at a local B and B. When I arrived at the B and B, I was informed that it was no longer in business. Within a half hour, my tour guide located the Avoca and they had offered me a room for the four nights, plus breakfasts and 2 additional meals. I went from a really scary experience (in a different country with no housing) to feeling like family! My room was gorgeous - all stone and brick - and cozy and clean. I slept very well in the comfortable bed. The private bathroom was modern and efficient. The staff of the Avoca went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Alycia, Clare, and Sarah on reception, Francis and Ihjaz in the bar and restaurant, and servers Sinead and Shawneen were outstanding in every way. My room was clean and made up every day by housekeeping, including Julie. I will definitely be back to Newcastle, and when I do return, I will be visiting the Avoca Hotel. I offer my highest recommendation!
Location is great, room was very cosy smaller than the pics. The staff were fantastic and the room Especially the bathroom was gleaming
The room was boiling we tried to turn the temp down but it kept going up and up and was 25 overnight The pillows were so so thin
The hotel and staff were great. Great food and drinks area.
The room got a little hot which was hard to regulate
The best staff and food ever the room was great 👍
The hotel is in a great location on the promenade with fabulous views. Our room was lovely with quirky decoration and fixtures.nice to see lots of character. We had a room with sea view and enjoyed watching the tide come in and out and the dog walkers on the beach. Room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was a bit basic it really could do with a shelf near the wash basin for toothbrushes and cosmetics as the only other ledge in the bathroom was behind the toilet and id not like to put toothbrushes there!, a towel rail and somewhere to put clothes while showering would be good too, there was only a small hook on the back of the door and no where to dry towels. We had an evening meal which was Ok ish the curry was tasty but came in a large soup bowl and the consistency was more like soup having to fish for the bits of chicken at the bottom of the bowl and stopping the rice from submerging. We felt a bit uncomfortable in bar/ restaurant as the two males were stood at the other end of the bar just watching us the whole time and didn't engage in conversation with us at all, as visitor to the area asking how our day had been and sharing local knowledge would have helped even though it was quiet one of our orders was wrong. In contrast the two ladies on duty the next morning were delightful they chatted about the area made us feel welcome and had a smile on their faces. The breakfast again was ok the continental part of the breakfast was basic no fruit juice on offer and cereals , pastries , toast and preserves limited choice and displayed in a dark area near the kitchen. the cooked breakfast was nice. I wouldnt stayhere again and i probably wouldnt recommend the hotel apart form its location and quirky decor and at £200 a night for two people it is was overpriced .
Very welcoming staff. Room was beautifully decorated Amazing cocktails
Cosy Hotel, well maintained and roomy bedrooms. Great food and breakfast.
Great location. Friendly staff. Room was
Limited street parking. Parking area 3 minutes walk away which is not great with baggage and bad weather as it was the case this weekend.
It was a great location, cosy room and the staff were friendly
Thought it was bit expensive for all it was, was no main bedroom light so it was very dark, would be hard to do makeup and get ready in the evenings without the natural light from the window.
Character and views
Lovely restaurant and the food was delish. Comfy beds and lovely view from the room.
Bar (the wild hare) had a function on which was annoying as we were so looking forward to going to it and there was so very little seating in the avoca bar itself as people had booked a meal so all the tables reserved and only a handful of high bar seats. Very annoying!! Lighting in room very very poor. Apart from that, it was a lovely stay
Very clean staff very nice
We couldn't get the temperature down in the shower it was very hot
My husband and I stayed at the Avoca Hotel a few weeks ago to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We absolutely loved the hotel itself — it’s beautiful, with gorgeous scenery and lovely rooms. However, our experience this time was quite different from our previous stay in May. During that visit, the housekeeping staff went above and beyond for us every day, and we felt completely comfortable and welcomed. Very friendly and approachable. Unfortunately, during our most recent stay, there seemed to be a change in the housekeeping team, and the atmosphere was very different this time. We witnessed several arguments between what appeared to be the head housekeeper and her staff — one incident even resulted in a staff member crying. The tension among the team created a very uncomfortable and uneasy environment for us throughout our two-day stay, which sadly affected what should have been a special celebration. I would strongly recommend that management look at the concerning behavior displayed by supervisors as this is seriously affecting the work ethic in this hotel and I noticed a massive change this time visiting. I will not return to this hotel as I found the management staff very hostile and overall a very uncomfortable experience.

Rooms very nicely decorated- great cosy beds, great showers. Lovely helpful friendly staff. Great food in the restaurant.
The Wi-Fi was non existent- very strange for a hotel especially if needing to work. Poor data coverage so it was hard to use our phones especially down stairs in the restaurant. One of our rooms had no shelving to put sanitary items on - really needs considering. All our things had to be put on the floor.
Woke up at 7am from the washing machines/tumble dryer.
Lovely boutique hotel
Expensive but probably due to the open being on
It's very cosy, it's near shops, good views fronting the beach and the staff are very accommodating and friendly. We also enjoyed the breakfast.
The room was very cosy although i find it to be a little warm for me, i think we couldn't adjust the setting but we just opened the window for some air to help me sleep but other than that, everything was good.
Lovely room with cracking view of the see. Parking very close and not far from town centre. Welcoming and friendly staff and good breakfast. Only thing I would mention was lack of storage in the room but we managed. Would stay again.
No beach view.
We had a wedding in Newcastle and decided to stay in the Avoca that night. I rang in advance to see if we could perhaps get an early check in to suit the early wedding and this was accommodated no problem. The hotel itself lovely and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was beautiful also. If we’re back that way again we’ll definitely stay again.
If you’re looking for a relaxing, professional environment, think twice. The hotel may look stunning and the location is beautiful, but the atmosphere was spoiled by aggressive staff arguing right in front of guests. One blonde staff member was left visibly upset, and it made the whole situation very uncomfortable. This is not the standard I expect from a hotel claiming to offer a luxury experience. Management seriously needs to address staff conduct before more guests leave feeling as disappointed as I did.
Great views of the sea. The fish & chips is beautiful. The breakfast in the morning is piping hot it's definitely the best fry up I've had at a hotel. The staff are so friendly & helpful. The hotel has a very relaxed vibe. The wild hare bar is brilliant, there's live music on at night & the cocktails are delicious.
Clean room and beach view
Fantastic hotel right outside the promenade and a stones throw away from the town. I believe it was refurbished recently enough, very comfortable and the decor is really well done. We’d a beautiful sea view room. The staff were really nice and v helpful, the restaurant and bar were excellent (great food and drink). Highly recommend.
A lovely 2 night stay at this very convenient hotel on Newcastle Main Street. Great view of the sea from the family room on the 1st floor. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was lovely including breakfast and with parking just round the corner it was a great location.
Great place, room facing the sea, it was quiet, comfortable and the staff were so friendly. Newcastle is a cute seaside town
It was great, no complaints
Great place to stay for a single person playing Royal County Down. Easy parking. Attentive staff.
The decor was very nice
Nothing
All the staff were fantastic, from check in, to the breakfast staff, bar staff, all were so helpful. Right on the promenade with plenty of restaurants and pubs within walking distance. Plenty of activities for kids to do close to the Hotel. Would highly recommend this Hotel
No air conditioning no lift no window to the outside, only to the roof terrace with smokers outside the window
I wish to commend the staff at the Avoca Hotel for looking after me so well over the few days I spent there. I was with friends scaling Slieve Donard and it was so lovely to return to the modern comfortable room with an amazing, panoramic view of the sea. I would highly recommend this hotel for such an occasion
Staff extremely friendly, especially Nicola and Siobhan and not forgetting Tommy the nightporter who is just a gentleman. The food is delicious and the service is excellent.
Great stay. Very friendly staff. Super breakfast. Will book again.
The location perfect, the decor stunning. The staff excellent 👌
Beautifully restored building Bedroom with a view of the promenade and beachfront

A friendly and welcoming hotel with very interesting and unusual decor. The restaurant is good. The location is excellent, right on the seafront. However, the room, although comfortable and well-equipped, was directly above and beside the main outside (large) drinking area. In fact, the door opened directly onto a balcony drinking area. Had I known this in advance I would not have booked, especially at the price.
Everything. From the comfiness of the room to the handiness of location not to mention the beautiful view from our room.
Nothing
Location was excellent and hotel was lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful the breakfast was superb 👌
Our room was very small and compact although the sea view was beautiful
Also eher nichts für Ruhe suchende.
Easy to find and lovely view from room which was very comfortable with modern en suite facilities. Staff were very welcoming and very good service in the restaurant.
Location Decor was beautiful Very friendly staff
Bathroom in room was very small
Good location and great bar with live entertainment
The room was incredibly hot!
Fantastic time, we went for 1 night but ended up staying for 2. The staff were excellent at accommodating us. The rooms were spotless, and the food in the restaurant was amazing, as was the breakfast. None of the horrible buffet breakfast. The fry was freshly cooked and tasted so good. The location was perfect. Every member of the staff were so professional and couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. I've stayed in all the hotels previously in Newcastle and will only be going back to the Avoca, our new favourite 🥰 Hope to go back soon 😃
