Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Beautiful location, bar, dining room & and enterance hall very smart and welcoming. Dog friendly, including doggy bits & pieces in the lobby. The bathroom in the bedroom looked as if it had been recently renovated and was very nice.
The main sleeping block is looking tired. The wood on the bedroom window had flaking paint and evidence of damp. The mattress on my bed was lumpy.
The room was great
I had a little problem to start with but this was rectified as soon as possible to my satisfaction, so well done to thestaff
Lovely hotel in a great peaceful setting. Nicely decorated and the room was a good size with everything you need. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of options/choice
Coffee was awful, I think filter coffee is a must at breakfast.
The rooms were lovely. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food at Dinner was very Well presented and freshly cooked and of a high standard
Nothing
Stay here every year for a nearby trade show. Very nice hotel with a good standard of restaurant. Lovely architecture. Now have electric chargers this year (2).
The property is situated in a lovely village and is very picturesque The reception and check in was simple and easy We emailed as we were running late and when we arrived it was all sorted and we went straight to our room. The bar was open late and had a good selection We didn’t stay for breakfast as we were leaving early The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. It was as expected I would be happy to stay again
We didn’t get to enjoy the surroundings as we arrived late and left early We had problems with the TV but that might just be down to us. It didnt change our stay
Friendly and helpful staff. Good location
Smell from dogs(?) in original room
L emplacement est idéal et la demeure magnifique . Le personnel est très attentionné et efficace et sympathique .
La salle de bains mérite un coup de jeune
Budynek w którym jest hotel- pałac. Piękne wnętrze baru i jadalni. Zróżnicowane śniadanie za przyzwoita cenę. Okolica cicha i spokojna.

Beautiful building and comfortable rooms. Food was nice and staff lovely . Nice little village with walk along canal for dog visitors.
Cleaning was a little hit and miss. We had fridge in room that hadnt been cleaned.
quick and simple check in, staff friendly
bathroom appeared tired looking and could do with a freshen up.
Beautiful hotel, amazing setting. Comfy room, fab bath
TV didn't turn on, realised it wasn't plugged in, and had to move a fairly heavy desk to plug it in. So it was the lamp or the TV, not both. No teaspoons on the tea/coffee tray. Restaurant staff are very slow. I ordered a drink and waited 15 minutes, then asked where it was. It took over 30mins for them to let me know the meal I ordered was out of stock. After waiting around 20mins for my dessert, I cancelled it and got "Oh, sorry about that". They credited my drink as an apology.
Lovely restaurant, super helpful and knowledgeable staff. Fabulous en suite bathroom, and a wonderfully comfy bed
Could have been cleaner, the lamp shade over our heads at dinner had cobwebs inside and the one next to the bed had a beetle within.
We loved the garden room . The food was really nice too . The hot tub was a added bonus .
The car parking . We had to go to the bottom spaces and was difficult with the luggage for older guests.
No wardrobe to hang clothes or hangers as took wedding outfits and had to be hung on coat pegs
Lovely wedding venue
Mould in the bathroom. Bathroom door did not close
The building itself it’s wonderful and I love the location, the layout is great and I especially loved the garden suit
The cleanliness. It is very unclean throughout. The standards aren’t good enough. Especially when people spend so much money on their weddings. Carpets on the stairs as you come in should be immaculate. It’s such a shame because it has so much potential. There were dead flys all on the floor in that bathroom when we walked in. The housekeeping needs to do better because that was sadly what people were talking about during our stay. We also found an empty can in our room and make in the bathroom. The cleaners aren’t be attentive enough, and generally needs a good revamp across the building.
That we go moved to a different room as the first one smelt funny. The staff are very pleasant and lovely Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Maddy and Erin were amazing ..Thank You, very helpful.
Its A Grand Beautiful Buildibg. However it lets itself down with tge general it needs a extremely good clean some TLC spending on the place. Dust in the bedroom. Carpets in hallway needing thorough cleaning and banister sticky and dirty Every thing needs a good makeover. No USB in rooms .standard really .. The mirror in our room was difficult,as not where sitiatable for doing hair ,or make up etc. For where the plug to dry and do your hair etc..as so far away. Bathroom plug didn't stay in whilst running the bath so all the water went out. Honestly I could go on ...its a shame, as it is A old beautiful biilding and it's situated in a Beautiful place...it wants properly upgrading
We didn’t like much of the hotel and we were both disappointed in it not what we thought it was going to be
No out look from our bedroom ,small bedroom ,noise guess ,vey basic ,couldn’t open the window.
Nothing didn't end up staying there and im still waiting for my refund
Everything. Hotel smelt of damp room was absolutely disgusting filthy dusty and pubic hair all over the bathroom
Everything, love it hever

Building was nice, room was clean, breakfast was good.
Hotel looks rather old and tired and room was small for the money
It's cheap and very much a case of you get what you pay for
The hotel is generally tired and could do with some TLC - our room was dirty and the shower was stuck at scalding temperature. We had dinner in the evening which was ok - breakfast was poor - the scrambled eggs were dry and the hash browns soft.
Situation very good - nice building
Bit dated
Public areas are pleasant, comfortable, elegant and relaxed. The reception is staffed 24x7 so you can get your pint of beer or a coffee at any time. Parkings are many and free. WiFi worked in the room and common area (not on the beautiful benches outside).
The room was rather small and impractical. During our five day stay it was never cleaned (well, we did it). The "pay as you go" for each single coffee makes the whole stay feel very transactional and not really hospitable. That said, they cancelled our stay because my credit card expired, without a single sms "are you coming". Lunch and dinner quality is nothing special. "Hostel" would be a more appropriate title than "hotel" for my taste.
A romantic break away, charming hotel, nice walk nearby before dinner...
Can get too hot in summer in rooms and fans are hard to come by as you need a few in room to try and keep cool, winter can become cold as heating in rooms needs updating
Intimate, family-run hotel with good food, set in ample grounds with great views of surrounding countryside.
The shower head needed changing!
Location was good close to local village. As I was working in the area I unfortunately didnt spend to much time in the Hotel. The restaurant and bar looked nice.
Intimate, family-run hotel with generous grounds. Breakfast choice was great and room quiet and comfortable.
Shower head needed replacing
Staff and pleasant surroundings
Only a one night stay but the evening meal was slow coming for some reason .
Location and look
Parking is limited,Price but a discount on the next stay will help
The breakfast was freshly made and delicious.
The view was very nice and was close to the city
The fact that we got locked at 12 midnight outside because the card to open the door got blocked and there was not one at the reception is a little bit disappointing. Luckily that our friends room was next to us and our windows were open otherwise we would have slept outside.
The property was close to where we needed to stay so in that sense it was convenient.
The property really needs a proper clean. Even though the bedding and towels were clean, everything else felt like it had not been deep cleaned in years.
Great location, staff very friendly , plenty of parking spaces, good food in restaurant and good breakfast, except for the coffee which is awful.
No socket near mirror at dressing table, only sockets at one side of the bed, there was a bedside lamp but no where to plug it in. There has previously been two packets of biscuits in room but there wasn’t any on this occasion. Bathroom had what looked like splatters of blood on tiles near end of bath, and cold tap on shower very stiff and almost resulted in me scalding myself as I had turned hot tap on first then couldn’t turn on cold tap
Convenient location for our visit.
We have stayed before and feel the bedrooms/bathrooms are in desperate need of renovation.
Schönes altes Haus. Lage sehr ruhig.
Kein Kleiderschrank im Zimmer.
Good food. Great staff.
The room was dark, inadequate lighting. There was no chair to relax in, only a desk chair.
Breakfast was ok. room and Hotel a little dated and needed some TLC
Great place to spend one or two nights. The room wasn’t as tidier as expected.
Comfortable beds
Noise from the above room when housekeeping was cleaning.
The friendliness and knowledge of the staff and the service at breakfast and dinner. Walking and relaxing in the grounds with the marvellous views.
The availability of light snacks. sandwiches, cakes etc. and real coffee between 10.00am and 6.00pm.
Quietness peaceful relaxing

Friendly staff. Good size room. Good if tight shower. Comfortable bed.
It’s a wedding venue so there’s a decent chance you’ll have people singing and yelling until late at night.
Great location. Lovely old building with beautiful views.
Our room was underwhelming. Needed some tlc. Taps kept falling apart. Paint peeling of walls and windows. One windows glazing had blown and you couldn't see through it. There wasn't a wardrobe which was an issue as we were staying for 7 nights and we had alot of clothing. Also no drawer units either. The room was noisy as right outside our window was a fenced area that contained a hot tub for the party room, so you could hear lots of music, talking and laughter for many hours. The corridor to our room smelt of weed and cigarettes. The curtains kept falling off the hooks on the rail. Carpet in the room was dirty. Also the meal we had in the hotel on the first night was very overpriced. We had the pie and it wasn't worth the money. The outdoor wooden seating was loose and falling apart. The whole place felt very under loved as it could be a fantastic venue if looked after properly. We only stayed for 6 of the 7 nights.
The building looks nice from the outside and when you first go in. Scenery really nice. Bed was comfy.
It’s let down by the condition of the rooms (well certainly ours), it was comfortable and equipped but was very tired, the bathroom Lino had been cut and not put down again properly, and the tiles had been painted over - badly, it was peeling in the shower area and had quite a bit of dirt/black in patches. The carpet in the room looked and felt dirty and there was a lot of dirt under the beds (found when looking for something I dropped). I also paid a bit more so that we had a ‘view’ and weren’t looking at a wall. The ‘view’ was of a very high embankment 6 feet away from the window so absolutely no view, unless you have a thing for embankments. Taking all of this into account, it wouldn’t be my first choice again, maybe 3rd - but I would stay there again in necessary.
The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly.

In camera nonostante che la finestra era aperta tutto giorno vetri delle finestre erano sempre appannati in più entrando in camera si sentiva una puzza di umido.
Nice location, great building and friendly staff
Carpets in room very dirty found things left from previous guests bathroom very dusty and dirty
Great staff
Room was bit warm couldn't open the window as much as I wanted due to the restrictor,
Lovely location. Comfortable bed. The breakfast was good
The food was not good at dinner.
Desperate refurb needed, very outdated. Ants in our room
The staff are friendly and helpful. There was a good choice for breakfast. The lounge and dining area are very comfortable. The location is fantastic. The room was comfortable and peaceful.
There was some dust and unclean cutlery in the room. Some areas outside could have been tidied up and cleared of dropped rubbish. The building has some unfinished outside maintenance. Some investment would make a big difference.
Peice quite
Staff very friendly and forebearing with complicated family arrangements and list car key!
Scrambled eggs at breakfast were very runny - too much milk. Would have loved a fried egg even if it had been sitting around for a bit.
Location is very good. However our room only looked out onto a brick wall. I had an event booked at hotel which was amazing, but I think because we booked via Booking.com we had an “economy” room. I might have thought that spending over £2k on an event there might have afforded me a room with a view! Alas not.
View from room
Our room was clean and comfortable with an opening window, which was appreciated in very hot weather. The hotel is located in a very scenic area a short drive from Macclesfield with plenty of parking on site and opportunities for walking. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our evening meal and breakfast were of good quality taken in the restaurant which had a very pleasant conservatory opening to the outdoors, again welcome in the hot weather.
We had a room in a modern extension on the ground floor, and the furnishings were a bit basic, but quite acceptable given the very reasonable rate.
Beautiful views and a spacious suite
Windows were lethal and not quite enough staff
Location setting
Finish of the decor and tiling in shower needs updating but everything else fine especially good value
This hotel is great value for money. Your breakfast is made fresh for you and the building is stately. The location and grounds are beautiful.
I didn’t like that I only booked 1 night….I honestly wished I could have stayed longer.
The building on the building on the outside was lovely
The food- dinner took just over an hour to arrive on our table from the point of ordering it, i ordered a butterfly chicken burger with rocket salad and special fries. Nothing special about the fries they were just cheap lidls fries the burger wasnt a butterfly burger it was a dry peice of chicken with no butter no sauce with a microwaved bit of chedder on it making the chicken rock hard and dry round the outside from putting ot into the microwave. Thw rocket salad wasnt a rocket salad it was 2 leaves and slice of tomato at the bottom of the dry burger. It was served on a tiny childs plate. And that terrible experience was an eye watering 20 pounds for something i could of got better for half the price at the local mcdonalds. Very dissapointing do not eat from here!!!!!
Staff were all excellent, good location. Comfy bed.
Cobwebs in room, kettle was dirty.
Beautiful building in a peaceful setting. Great value for money.
Beautiful location, cool old manor house building contains bar/restaurant etc. Ok sized room (standard double) for the price. Quiet.
Standard double room had the classic 2 single beds pushed together....which is not only lazy but pointless as the room was too small to be used as a twin!! No air con. Exterior of room block looks nothing like the lovely front of the building, more like 1950s council flats! But it was not mis advertised, I knew what to expect, and was cheap. Pretty good overall
Bar staff very friendly and helpful. Made us two Pimms especially for watching Wimbledon - nice touch. Thank you. Comfortable bed and lovely views.
Location was good for visiting friends.
No Aircon, stifling hot in bedroom, alleviated a tiny amount by a constantly running fan. Not enough disabled parking. Access turn to the lift through the dining room was extremely tight. On finding accessible entrance via the lift the corridor and exit was always blocked by mounds of dirty laundry bags. Breakfast supplies were not replenished.
Comfy bed. Delicious brekkie. Quiet. Clean.
Room was very warm making it hard to sleep. Consider providing fans as this hot weather becomes the norm.
This is a lovely old Victorian mansion that has been extended with a significant well equipped bedroom block which is hidden behind the main house so the character remains. The main house has some beautiful suits. The restaurant was nice plenty of seats and served good food.
The lift was a walk through the restaurant which was a little strange but was still very welcome.
Evening meal, the grounds , the village pub , staff and general atmosphere.plus value for one night Ace
Main carpark on a lower level but I felt I would have a motorcycle still there in the morning
Beautiful location great value for room staff very nice and polite plenty off village pubs and eateries around had evening meal for 6 very good nothing bad only thing missing resident ghost but great find
Narda
Fantastic location and lots of parking space. We stayed for work and the value was fantastic for the rooms and service.
Location
Car park was on 2 levels with a steep hill and only 1 disabled parking space.
Very nice bar and public areas. Very friendly staff
Good location for visiting our friend.
We have stayed numerous times usually on a Friday. Felt the quality of service wasn't as good, different staff.pleasa
Booked for the garden suite which has a lot of potential. Stayed there 2 years ago for my hen do and rebooked for my friends. In the 2 years it has massively deteriorated.
There was a smell of damp and fust throughout the suite and 2 out of 8 beds were broken. It wasn't as clean as it was 2 years ago and the water in the hot tub was dirty. 2 years ago there were 2 hot tubs and now only 1 that can only fit 4 people in. Not ideal when there are 8 guests. The fust smell didnt go away and outside the door to the suite the wall paper was hanging off the ceiling. Manager was attentive and apologised for the 2 beds. We were given a room key for the room next door but this meant two of the party guests having to stay separate which defeats the object. 2 years ago there was a nice sofa and this has been replaced with another sofa that is dirty and smells of fust and not in keeping with the suite. Its such a shame this suite hasn't been looked after as 2 years ago we had a really lovely time. I felt very embarrassed to have recommended the place. I won't be returning but hopefully the hotel sees this and sorts the room out. It just needs some TLC and cleaners that do the job they are paid for.
Since we last stayed a few years ago the hotel has been refurbished for the better We had a nice view from window The room was clean
Walk up hill from car park
Location/ Staff
We stayed here in 2016 The decor was the same and so were the carpets Very shabby Needs a updating from top to bottom Also the Breakfast was cold
Beautiful building and location , pleasant staff
Rooms are tired and need to redecorated, bathroom replaced and carpets also replaced
Beautiful location, however not actually in Macclesfield. The reception and bar are beautifully decorated.
Although I booked a Superior twin room as advertised on Booking.com, when we arrived I was advised quite rudely I hadn't, but she would find us a suitable room. I asked if it was the same standard and was assured it was. The twin room was disappointing, poor light as it was at the back of the property next to an overgrown slope. Black mould around the windows, paint work on the windowsill and bathroom scruffy and grubby. The black chair in the room was thick with dust. However, the worst part was the bin for 'poo bags' next the front door was full to overflowing. This was avoidable as it was only a few metres from the front reception, where staff seemed to congregate for a chat. In checking out, I questioned again if our room was a Superior twin room as I was disappointed, only to be advised by a different member of staff, that there are no twin Superior rooms in the hotel and he would pass a message onto the reservation team. Disappointingly, almost 2 weeks later, I still haven't received a communication or apology from them.
Room was cool on a very hot day. It was on the ground floor. The bed was comfortable. Lovely views from the terrace.
Room 33. Bathroom door hanging off and difficult to open and close! Hanging space available but no drawers. Curtain hems ragged and hanging down. Plug in sink didn't work so sink did not begin to fill. Room situated in a grotty area of hotel with a depressing view of a mucky passage and a brick wall! Winter duvet far too hot for any summer let alone a heatwave! Unimaginative and poor provision for people who have Coeliac and Vegetarian requirements. However, our waiter did his best to be helpful.
Staff were fab!
Rooms were absolutely fine but slightly odd with a chaise lounge in the middle of the room but I'm guessing that was only because the bed configuration was a twin and when a double it's placed at end of the bed. Small note the twin beds need valance sheets on them, not greta looking at the bare divans with some stains on 😬
Nice location - lovely building and plenty of car parking. Breakfast was ok.
Needs renovating - very pricey bar with the bar incredibly slow, not enough staff, the room set up for a wedding resulted in not enough tables.
location was lovely staff were very helpful directions to parking were not great so we ended up parking perhaps inappropriately
the rooms side of the hotel are starting to look a little tired compared to modern hotels
Communal areas like corridors not very clean, carpets were partly pulled out and then not fitted back properly causing a trip hazard and overall look very very dated.

Beautiful location
The property was ok and the standard rooms are looking very tired, but the room was expected at the value we paid. The breakfast was adequate but nothing special. We ordered vegan sausages for breakfast and got potato and chopped vegetables in the shape of a sausage, something they use to serve 20 years ago, so very similar to the decor.
We had an evening dinner in the hotel which was a vegan burger and fries they charged us over £17.00 each and it was very dry and the fries was mainly the small crispy bits, which was very expensive and not very good quality. We ordered drinks at the bar they were also very expensive eg. Large glass of white wine 250ml @ £12.50 for nothing very special, which most probably cost them £8.00 a bottle at the cash and carry.
Excellent Hotel and Spa. Very helpful and friendly staff and xcellent service
The bed was so comfortable. I happened to get a nasty cold just before I arrived so I spent a lot of time in bed! The surrounds are beautiful and the staff are lovely.
Great value for money, lovely friendly staff, and good location to break a journey from the east up to Scotland.
Decor and maintenance was a little tired
Historical beautiful, some rooms need upgrading but will cost millions
Prices of the drinks
Good location, staff very nice, breakfast quite good
Bathroom in need of refurbishment. Awful coffee at breakfast.
The staff were very pleasant
Not accessible at all, we didn't even stay the full duration that was booked. I use a standing rollator and struggled to get through corridors or around corners. The access to the lift is in a very poor location and you need to walk through the restaurant to get to it. The room was small and filled with unnecessary furniture, it was very hot and the bed was very uncomfortable. Plus the toilet seat in the bathroom was broken. Wouldn't stay here again
Wonderful staff, lovely room, happy to be members. Will be back again
The staff were lovely. So helpful. The hotel is beautiful.
The bed in room 31 is broke . Unfortunately when I moved it woke me up.
Handy for relatives nearby. Lovely location
It was cold ! Though they provided a heater when i told the receptionist who was very nice and also stepped in to help with something at breakfast. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work. The bar prices were over the top! And there was only 1 single malt whisky. The young barman didn’t know about whisky really and offered bourbon for example Bit dsapoointed it was only buffer breakfast the first morning so didn’t bother on the 2nd day.
Quirky and non clinical like many new hotels it has character and comfort and not pretentious
Bits are a bit shabby and need an update I’m short so the shower is high and would like to be able to reduce the height so I can’t get my hair wet
