Awesome location if you are playing Nairn Golf Club. You can literally walk from hotel to the club's driving range. Reasonably priced Scottish breakfast. Its also a lovely short walk to downtown Nairn and the Nairn train station. Hotel looks to be a beautiful former manor home. Fun historical connection to Charlie Chaplin.
Like most manor homes, it could use a little refreshing. There were some loose tiles, odd renovations and items such as carpet which are a little past its prime.
Beautiful building, very quiet. There was a wedding on when we stayed but this caused no problem at all. Bar man, Karel, gave excellent service above and beyond expectation. Chaplins restaurant was good, quiet when we visited, nice decor.
Breakfast service was slow. Hot food is cooked to order, which is great but was too slow. Forewarned is forearmed. Carpets a bit tired but otherwise in good condition.
Beautiful settings, great service, food and staff. Fantastic value
The staff where we had breakfast were very friendly, and the croissants were delicious.
I was disappointed about the cleaning, very dirty everywhere, the breakfast very poor, and no option to pay by cash in all the hotel: restaurant, bar… The water was not bottled; it was clearly tap water. They would only provide it if you specifically asked for it at reception, which I found quite inconvenient. On the penultimate day of our stay, the room was only partially cleaned. The bathroom towels were left on the floor and the bathroom bin was not emptied. I had to report this to reception, and we get clean towels. In the evening, we could hear cracking sounds coming from the ceiling, which was a little scary😅 There were also cobwebs everywhere…
Historic House
Expensive
Location was nice and staff were very friendly
Foyer carpet was very tired and torn upstairs looked like it needed replaced décor could have been better Needs modernised.
Personeel, gebouw en locatie
Het had wat levendiger gekunt
Beautiful grounds, comfortable public rooms, old Hollywood style decor, friendly staff. Breakfast was great both mornings, good choice and freshly prepared.
Bedrooms were clean and beds comfortable but decor bit shabby, needing some upgrading as were the bathrooms. Dinner was mediocre and quite expensive.
The gardens and driveway were stunning
Staff at check in, room was extremely tired and well over priced. Very noisy from other guests leaving extremely early in the morning. No food available from early, no room service.
Lovely old stately home feel about the place, really beautiful ..good location too.
Nothing really, the small entry/ exit road to and from the hotel ( lovely tree lined route) can be difficult to join at the main road, however this is just the way it is, and it’s not a complaint, just something to be aware of.
Good location for airport
Room would be best described as tired and we were upgraded , there were a number of issues in the bathroom which indicated a lack of maintenance and in particular I would ask that staff pay careful attention to the mirror in the bathroom and shape etched into it. My other main gripe would be the inability of the hotel to provide any dinner option for us as guests other than 6pm or 8pm which I would suggest was due to a large coach party staying that evening , whilst it is understandable that causes issues only emailing other guests asking if they want dinner in the days before their stay asking them if they wish to eat somewhat spoiled the evening having to leave to find dinner options. Perhaps knowing that the coach party was staying guests could have been asked well before their stay asking week they arrive
Kind staff and nice food
A tired looking hotel. Maintenance needed. Sparce spirit offering for mixed drinks.
Great Hotel a little run down.
General Maintaince could be improved. Trimming around the lift buttons should have been reoplaced.

This hotel has clearly seen better days and is currently operating more like a basic hostel than a 4-star property. How it maintains its 4-star rating is complete mystery to me. The rooms lack basic amenities—there was no fridge in the room, and the bar didn't even offer any light snacks. The atmosphere is further spoiled by a massive portrait of the owner in the entrance hall, which comes across as pure self-glorification. It's my opinion. I cannot recommend this hotel. The food is best avoided altogether. A stark reminder that MGM Muthu is definitely not MGM Grand!
We stayed at Muthu Newton Hotel with two families and booked five rooms, which were kindly upgraded to Executive Rooms. We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel has its own unique vibe and incredible architecture—it genuinely feels like staying in a palace! The location is a little away from Inverness, but the peaceful surroundings and beautiful historic character make up for it. Overall, a memorable stay and definitely worth experiencing.
Seagull noise in the night.
A Hotel of a grand style, with walking access to the beach and to walk around Nairn. The Railway Station is close. Comfortable room, also a nice bar sitting room. Restaurant was comfortable.
The breakfast was lovely. Although it wasn't that far from town, it's not the best for people who aren't in the best of health.
The carpets have seen better days.
Beautiful place
Not alot of space in rooms
Location, lovely grounds, comfortable room, good food
Driveway needs potholes repairing
Grand old historic building Great food and service Extremely comfortable room Close to Inverness Airport
Nothing
Did not have breakfast
I’ve had breakfast in the past and not great.
Frühstück nachträglich gebucht - war gut. Lage hervorragend
The seating in the Charlie Chaplin Restaurant, in particular the large silver couches were extremely uncomfortable and made eating a challenging experience!
Great price and great location.
A bit dated but charming.
Perfect
All good
It’s a lovely classic style property with green grounds
It needs an interior uplift. The property is very basic and shabbily maintained
Rien
Hotel in a nice setting in the country side. Comfortable bed in a large room.
Location was great plenty of parking etc. Grounds are lovely, and staff very welcoming. evening meal was presented well and cooked to perfection. Bedroom was well equipped and a four poster bed!
Breakfast was awful, over cooked meat and undercooked eggs. Please needs a lot of cleaning and updating. Bed wasnt the best felt very 'used'
Good full English breakfast and dinner. All staff excellent and friendly
No mineral water
Un lugar precioso, con una decoración exquisita.
Me gustó todo
Room was a lovely size but need a freshen up decorative wise.
Heritage building , Great staff
Out-dated facilities and not accessibility friendly.
Good location for airport
Food was not great and some areas looked tired
The staff kept the bar open when we arrived so we could have a nice drink together. The main building was very grand and impressive
The room smelled like damp, and was in a separate building and just wasn’t very nice for the price
Great location, lovely grounds, large comfortable room, good breakfast
Some public areas could do with a bit of investment. Suspect this is working progress.
Nice location
Noisy seagulls
Lovely building and surroundings. Friendly staff.
All a bit tired looking. Weak water flow in shower and poor internet.
Good location. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Lounge was comfortable and had a cosy feel. Lovely old house.
We arrived at hotel entrance and cigarette butts were all over entrance steps. Not a good first impression. They were never cleaned as still there 2 days later. Bedroom decor was tired . Windows had dirt inside and out. Paintwork dirty. Such a shame as lovely old building but needs a major upgrade.
Location
It was a bit out of date in terms of style and facilities. Clearly hadn’t had any money spent on it but the location was what we were after.
Le bâtiment ancien , les chambres , le parc
Rien
The hotel is fantastic very close to an excellent beach Large bedroom and bathroom with separate showers

Loved the breakfast, the highland cows and the building itself. The room was super cool.
The million seagulls or gulls screaming all night. If they had AC it wouldn’t have been that bad but since it was so hot we had to have the windows open.
Lokalizacja
Brud i robaki.
A truly impressive building in spectacular surroundings, with highland cattle in the field in front and views out over the Moray Firth. Very comfortable bed in our spacious upgraded room. Decent breakfast, friendly and attentive staff.
Sadly this grand old hotel has seen better days, and is very tired in places, with loose fittings, flaking paint and worn, stained carpets. The hot water in the bathroom was almost scalding, with no warning. The room was on the front of the hotel in direct sunlight, but only one of the two windows opened, and even then only by a few inches, making the room unbearably hot. Whilst it cooled later, keeping the window open at night meant we were woken around 5.30 am by the tour coach drivers having a loud conversation directly below our window.
The hotel is very comfortable and looks amazing. It is in a good location and close to the beach. The staff were efficient and pleasant and took good care of us. Loved the field with he highland cows close by.
I can't think of anything.
The location of the hotel is stunning, only a short walk through a calm residential area to the beach. The building itself is impressive, albeit in need of some upgrading to the deco and amenities inside. Breakfast was generous and fresh, at excellent value for money.
Ok, I never complain, and, if anything, make an effort to only mention the positive aspects of a stay. However... I had booked a suite as I needed a bath tub and was told our suite definitely had a bath, as well as great views. On arrival, we were told this was a mistake and we were given the choice of a much smaller room with a tub or the suite without. I need a bath for health reasons, so we grudgingly chose the smaller room. There was only view of a wall, no air con, and we spent the night awake and boiling hot. They offered a free breakfast but no refund, and the cost of breakfast in no way came close to the price difference between the suite we paid for and the room we stayed in. The receptionist, who also chased us for 11am checkout (despite having paid for late checkout) simply blamed a colleague instead of working towards compensation. I complained by email but this was simply ignored.
The building and location is awesome. Breakfast was great and staff was very friendly.
The rooms have had better days, but the bed was comfy and all was clean.
Nice welcome with the receptionist
Nothing
Great location, friendly, hard-working stuff, cows as neighbors, great walking paths and access to the beach.
it’s quite outdated, everything felt a little dirty, not dirty than needs a washing dirty as and just really old.
The hotel was an ideal location as a central locus for a person visiting this part of Scotland to play golf courses in the highlands region. The hotel is set in a secluded location and was a peaceful repose away for the buzz and noise of a more urban setting.
The roadway connecting the hotel to the A96 was rutted and potholed this has the potential to damage vehicles accessing the hotel even if one was compliant with the posted speed limit. The roadway as presented did not create a very endearing first impression. Further, while there was signage directing the vehicle driver to available car parking there was no marked out designated parking save for a number of disabled parking bays. This matter, if addressed, even with the limited space available for parking would enhance the overall experience of staying at the hotel.
Staff nice food good room big and clean good nights sleep. Only stayed one night so location fine for us.
building and grounds beautiful
Our Courtyard room was damp found woodlice 1 on the bed . bed lumpy and uneven . Bathroom extractor fan didn't work Toilet lid very soiled under lid room didn't feel clean .
Location was ideal to play Nairn golf club
The bed was extremely uncomfortable, with the springs digging into my back throughout the night. My room also had two single beds pushed together with a sheet over the top rather than a proper double bed, which made it uncomfortable whenever I moved during the night.
Piękny pałac, miła obsługa na recepcji, śniadania do przyjęcia.
Fatalna obsługa przy śniadaniu. Dziewczyna rzucała gdy podawała. Brudne filiżanki. Pokoje stare, niewyremontowane.
Location was Beautiful … the bed was comfortable
It was very very grubby …. Room wasn’t hoovered each day ….Very few staff around we did tell receptionist what we felt was wrong ….the carpet outside our bedroom was appalling broken tile in the bathroom the windows were really dirty as in old dirt all around them carpet rucked in our bedroom a def trip hazard …. Wires across floors and under rugs in reception. Terrible pot holes on driveway. Staff vaping outside front entrance.
Very nice staff
Location was tranquil
Booked courtyard and we received a free upgrade within hotel but room location was very noisy due to event until midnight. If we were given our original room without the upgrade then we wouldn't have been inconvenienced with the noise which ruined the experience.
Hotel con solera y muy confortable. Buen desayuno
Necesita actualizarse
Loved the traditional feel with a modern decor
Nothing
Bed was very comfortable, room was clean and shower pressure was good. Tasty breakfast and dinner, cozy old building and in walking distance from the beach and shops in Nairn. Hotel personell was friendly and helpful
Interior of the room and furniture is a bit old and used, it was quite loud when the windows were open in this specific room because it was located next to a roof with a loud ventilating system.
The bed was absolutely sensational! Best sleep I’ve had in so long. The room was really cosy. The food was fantastic and the staff were lovely.
I honestly can’t fault it.
Handy for Inverness airport
All a bit tired
Lovely
Location
I was over the moon to receive an upgrade, unprompted. Room was spacious, lovely bathroom. Grounds stunning, very attractive & light bar & Carlie Chaplin restaurant. Loved the 3 Highland cattle in the hotel field. Loads of trees, large expanse of grounds out front, lovely driveway. Breakfasts good; staff through friendly & helpful & seemed happy; meaning Charlie Chaplin restaurant very good quality, altho’ some options had run out, e.g, pomegranate salad which I would have chosen - & no cream left but waiter/waitress (fantastic young people) were resourceful to find us alternative. Amazing stay.
Just one minor thing: ugly large coach parked outside front door entrances when coach parties staying - not a pretty view.
1. Location!! 2. staff service 3. Great breakfast
The view from that specific room was some blocked by trees, but yet, their green color was calming.
Breakfast was served at the table. Quick service and good choices
We liked the tranquil location as the hotel has extensive grounds.
The hotel is showing its age, water leaks had damaged the ceilings in both the bar and breakfast room, with the latter displaying a poor temporary repair. No receptionist was available to book us in and we had to wait sometime. We enquired via email about eating in the restaurant prior to our arrival, to be told that they could only accommodate us at 6.00pm. This was too early for us, so we booked elsewhere. Upon arrival we were asked if we wanted to eat in the restaurant. I explained that we were going to eat elsewhere only to be told that they could have fitted us in. We enquired about the next night and were informed that it was going to be busy, but they could fit us in. Further enquiries the next day again found that we could not eat at our desired time, even though we were told they could fit us in. Annoying mixed messages from staff. The hotel seems to put more effort into looking after coach parties, rather than guests who book individually. The bedroom smelt musty and were certainly not worth the money we paid. We were on a car tour of Scotland, we stayed in five hotels during our trip, this was the most expensive, yet offered the poorest overall experience.
Loved the location and walk through the wwodown to the sea. It room was great. We particularly liked the comfortable bed and the fact that the curtains cut out all the light making the room pitch black. Brilliant forceful shower.
Not a lot to complain about. The breakfast wasn't up to much and the carpets were showing signs of wear in places but I'm just nit picking
Possibly location
Driveway a nightmare full of potholes. Our room was dark and very tired .Not welcoming at all.Very disappointed, to say the least.
A arquitetura do hotel é muito atraente e o entorno próximo é bastante bucólico e relaxante
O café é a la carte e um pouco limitado
Lovely room, well maintained
Nothing !
Furniture very old , destroyed
I stayed here last minute. After a day with some troubles Mary was very friendly and helpfull with my last minute check in. Next day had a great breakfast with also very friendly staff. I will come back here!
Room, breakfast, staff
Good location Restaurant v good Breakfast good. Breakfast dining rooms v nice. Nice bar. Good veiws
Hotel building itself needs tome TLC in places. E.g holes in a hallway carpet, bedroom carpet rucked up, dirty bedroom windows and an overflowing gutter drainpipe. But to be honest this is typical of Muthu hotels
Location is perfect, what a beauriful hotel!
Nothing
it was a beautifyul property surrunded by history. the hotel is very old but they make it really comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good.
Beautiful property that has clearly seen better days. We loved the old exterior and interesting details of the building, the highland cows in front, and the gardens. The staff was also super sweet, especially the restaurant and breakfast servers!
This hotel needs some money put into it for new carpet, lamps, and decor. The lamp in our room had a broken shade, the chairs were worn out, and the carpet pulling away from the walls. In the restaurant there's water damage in the windowsills and all the wall decor looks cheap and mass produced.
Perfect
Nothing need changing
Great location, picturesque scenery, couldn’t fault breakfast though paint peeling off walls in dining room
Stayed in the courtyard both radiators on in the room when arrived as well as in the entrance, couldn’t turn the towel radiator in bathroom off very uncomfortable. For the price it’s not justified
