Food very good
Ein sehr schönes gemütliches Hotel an zentraler Lage
Das Essen war ok aber nicht super
Very friendly guy at check-in - and all employees were friendly! The pub itself is really good and well located, nice cocktails. The room itself was very thoughtfully designed - very cosy, nice dressing table (a rare find in hotel rooms!), brilliant shower. Comfortable bed and seating area. It's clear that they really thought through how the room would used and what would be needed by guests.
The room is basically in the beer garden so it's not easy to relax - people are sat just a few feet away from your room. Not a particularly rowdy pub so it's not a big deal during the day when you're out doing stuff, but so noisy in the evening. On Sunday the pub was blasting music until 10:45pm and people were outside drinking and having a good time until 11. Monday was quieter. I'd guess Friday and Saturday are unbearable.
Room and decor of the place were really standout
Maybe I booked late, but price was high
Location and tasteful, pleasant staff.
Only negative was the waitresses serving our breakfast (2 out of 3) had their long hair down.
Ambience, decor, location
The shelf above the sink. Made it difficult to wash No parking
Our room was located just off a small courtyard and was very tastefully appointed. Everything was of the highest standard. The bed was very comfortable and the room, though small, was very well equipped. The hotel could not be better located in the heart of the town.
Like most hotels, there are not enough electrical sockets to accommodate the myriad items that guests bring with them. We were lucky to grab a parking space down the street on a Sunday (free parking), but I imagine if you have to park in a public car park, it would be inconvenient. There is, however, a loading bay outside the hotel.
First time back for a while and it didn’t disappoint. Super location, great food and well equipped rooms
Parking can be a bit of a lottery if you want to be nearby
Really well located, clean and stylish
Great position and a nice outdoor terrace to eat or drink in. Nice soap and good bathroom.
The breakfast was terrible. Really busy and understaffed. Poor selection for continental and I had the beans on toast which were grim. The cutlery looked very tarnished. We asked for a taxi and they only rang one number which didn’t have one available. There were many others they could have rung. The only wine by the glass comes out of pumps in the wall. No robe or slippers, no room fridge. My room was in an annexe up a large flight of stairs which had not been made clear. I paid £690 for a Classic room for two nights with breakfast. Absolutely not value for money. Wouldn’t go back.
Great location and restaurant
The bar is understaffed and very slow, and with warm weather and no air conditioning there should at least be a fan in the room.
Friendly and warm check-in from Harry, a great member of the team who kindly gave us an upgrade. Room was nice and spacious with a lovely large walk-in shower and big bath. Really comfortable bedroom, great service from the restaurant team and good menu you selection.
One very small point! When you serve a the Lamb dish with Orzo in a metal bowl with handles and then pop it onto another bowl plate it is incredibly difficult to cut the lamb as the whole bowl rocks! It looks great, but really not practical! Good food though!
Location very central…
Costly
Fab location
We had a room in the eaves of the hotel and it was boiling hot with no air con
Helpfulness of all the staff, unique nature of the room, location
Lack of hotel parking (other parking areas were close by gut had to be paid for)
It was hot as hell. Friendly staff supplied fans. AC would have been convenient.
Amazing looking building in a good location. Clean rooms with beautiful small attentions to detail.
Loud extractor fan outside my window with kitchen smells finding their way into the room. Asked to move rooms and very kindly swapped into a different part of the hotel.
Great location in centre of Rye. We had two rooms around a little patio. Nicely decorated.
We loved everything, friendly staff, lovely room, great outdoor areas to sit and great breakfast.
I cannot think of anything we did not like and will definitely be back.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating! Especially Matt! Food excellent and cooked with style!
Location
Quaint
Room comfort, decor throughout
Perfect location in the centre of the old town, charming with a twist, very kind and attentive staff in the restaurant dealing with complex allergies, really went the extra mile to make my partner feel safe and eat well.
Excellent location. Old world charm and elegance combined with modern thinking. Staff were all friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Nothing really. We had a fan in our room which was a little warm but it’s an old hotel and was exceptionally warm.
Excellent location and decoration and nice little touches
Male receptionist was very jolly and smiley and especially helpful with a.gentle demeanour however the female receptionist interrupted and was abrupt so came across rude and had a hard stare!
Great service and beautiful hotel
Lovely of hotel in centre of Rye
No AC No fridge in the room
Lots
Bedroom stuffy in hot weather
Nydelige rom, flott beliggenhet i hjertet av byen. Kjempegod frokost, og god middag. Hotellet hadde generelt utsøkt interiør og en koselig bakhage. Anbefales!
Goeie douche, gezellige binnenkoer.
Wat weinig bewegingsruimte in de kamer.
Supertrevlig personal! Helmysigt hotell. Fint rum!
Kaffet gjordes i automat, inte i en riktig espressomaskin.
Breakfast was Great. We also had a lovely Dinner there. The Design of the Hotel is amazing and surprisingly detailed.
We had a cozy Room and the Bed was rather on the small Side for 2 big People, but only a very small Minor to the lovely Room. 😬🫣
I liked the location. The room was also something unique out of the norm, with some classic stuff. The cleanliness of the bathroom was just amazing
Nothing to be honest, it exceeded my expectation
Great central location. Very helpful staff.
Our initial room which was a strange late addition - almost like a glamorous shed at the end of the property.
Very comfortable bed Excellent location Staff were superb particularly the young man in the restaurant who was just about to qualify as a nurse. And the Reception staff were very good too.
Cooked breakfast poor particularly the avocado on toast. Avocado not fresh and had been blitzed until completely smooth. I expect it had been pre-done and left in bowl to scoop out as required. Cereal choice poor as only nutty but delicious granola available. Disappointed no nut free cereal choice. Breakfast room tables didn’t feel clean, felt grimy.
Location Nice bathroom
No airco No fridge No outside view
The room exceed our expectations. It was large, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The staff were incredible and really went the extra mile.
Parking was a little tricky, but there was a loading bay out front of the hotel that helped enormously arriving and departing.
Staff were excellent. Dinner and breakfast exceptional
Clean and comfortable; great location. Everyone on staff was really helpful. Food was terrific.
Had to ask for a sheet instead of a duvet as it was very hot. Room was stuffy (no air conditioning) but we had brought two extra fans and were prepared.
Ligging
Airco afwezig
Location and bar/breakfast room
Alarm kept going off in our room and the hotel could not stop it. Not much in the room. Don’t feel like value for money.
Great location centre of rye with a lovely garden terrace. Stylish design in lounge and bedrooms. Friendly staff. Bed very comfortable
It’s an old building so to be expected but lots of squeaky floorboards / sound from other rooms - be prepared if your a light sleeper. Restaurant food ok but menu a little limiting especially for vegetarians.
Tout était parfait, chambre, au calme, spacieuse. Bar sympa et très bon pt dej.
No lift, too many steps to climb to get to our room. Good job me and my partner we are fit otherwise it was going to be a nightmare.🤪 Thank you to the receptionist and the gentleman who helped us with our luggage..
Central location in a beautiful town. The hotel itself is well decorated and comfortable bed.
All good.
Stopped for tea in the courtyard, whilst exploring Rye. Nothing too much trouble for the staff and a lovely place to sit and relax. Looking at the interior, website and the team, would love to come back and stay
The staff were lovely and our room, the courtyard space and other communal spaces were really wonderful.
Nothing!
Everything
It was a very hot day and we couldn’t open the bedroom window but there was a fan. Delicious dinner and friendly staff.
This was so far our favorite hotel on a multi-city trip. Rye is a lovely little town, and the George is perfectly located. Sadly for the hotel, there was I gather a fairly substantial fire in recent years, forcing a major remodel. The result is a historic building, a historic facade ... but modern-feeling amenities (plumbing etc). I'm baffled by an earlier review complaining about things feeling tired, it felts very new to us. Lovely staff, excellent bar, wonderful stay.
Service
Meal was very good but rushed.
Home from an overnight stay at The George. The hotel is beautiful & a labyrinth of different rooms. Staff are all so friendly & welcoming. Our room was absolutely beautiful. We were lucky to be upgraded. As we entered there was soft music coming from the little radio on the side, a lovely touch. Queen size comfortable bed. Tv , armchairs, lovely views from the windows, the bathroom had a free standing bath, and the shower was a good size, with shampoo/ conditioner/ soap to use & bath robes should you need one. Perfect. We had a drink in the bar where the young man was very accommodating in recommending drinks. We booked an evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Food was delicious, and service great. Unfortunately I didn’t get any names, but every member of staff were all so nice. We had breakfast in the morning which runs from 8am until 10 am I believe. There was a choice of items to have while you waited for your ordered cooked item to arrive. All cooked beautifully. Checkout was easy. We had parked a short walk away in the large market carpark which is £3 for 24 hours. I would definitely recommend and return to the George if we ever visit Rye again .. We loved it …
It’s such a lovely hotel
Staff very friendly, clean rooms, manager happy to chat and tell us about the future of the look out
Nothing not to like x
Superb location - close to the station and all the main points of interest,
Dinner menu could have been more varied and could be slightly altered from night to night.
Location, staff, bar and bar staff, breakfast.
We had heavy suitcases and my husband was left to carry them to the top floor to an attic room. Probably should have been communicated that. Or at least offered assistance. Also that particular room was really no good for travellers like us that had travelled a long way and had large suitcases. Probably need to be better communication about that.
Central to Rye. Clean and on the whole friendly
Shower drainage was smelly and slow. Had to keep stopping the shower. Also breakfast was a little disorganised. One member of staff was outstanding but others one was sullen and almost rude.
Wonderfully helpful staff. However cleanliness was very sadly lacking. Carpet edges and around furniture very dusty. Tops of furniture clean but lower levels and skirting boards looked like they had grown beards. The wardrobe in my room was an old fashioned bamboo, very pretty, but strips missing and nails sticking out. Bed very clean but personally speaking ,like sleeping on a billiard table. The food was good. I am disabled and it is totally unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.
In spite of the helpful reception staff and reasonable room, I certainly wouldn't recommend The George, particularly in warm weather. The housekeeping was dubious - a sock under the bedroom chair, cardboard toilet roll tube on the bathroom floor, thick dust in reception - and there is nil air conditioning, just a fan which of course makes a room hotter. We had requested a twin room, but were given a double room on the top floor. It was blamed on Booking.com but we had confirmation from the hotel, which was denied. The bed only had a heavy duvet, no sheet, so we were forced ro sleep uncovered, leading to insect bite overload. About an hour's sleep, if that. Breakfast was bad for vegans. In spite of offering a full vegan breakfast, the vegan Continental offering was just chopped fruit and bread - horrible jam, no Marmite, no yogurt, no pastries. Very poor. Had to ask for vegan spread and plant milk. For £340 one night, it was simply terrible. Never again.
The hotel was comfortable and inviting… we had dinner there which was delicious
The unexpected £50 fee for my small dog which wasn’t mentioned at all at time of booking through booking.com After a delicious dinner the next morning cooked breakfast seemed to lack a bit of passion and flare
Excellent welcome by reception staff. Decor in room pleasant. Good bed. Excellent bathroom.
Room was in attic, and though not at all cramped the window was small. No air conditioning - not surprising in converted old building but overall a problem. As we stayed on a very hot day (28C plus) the room remained unpleasantly hot until the early hours. Fan provided was not an adequate answer to this. For a nightly charge of £340 this was incredibly bad value. Despite hotel acknowledging request for 2 single beds (which I have retained) it was claimed the message had not been received. Whilst I understand hotels cannot necessarily meet this kind of request it appeared it was simply ignored. More minor points - housekeeping not great - a previous occupant's sock under chest of drawers, shirt collar stiffener in wardrobe, etc.. Whilst breakfast cooked selection extensive we prefer continental, and choice not wide.
We loved the "snug" room at the front of the property and attention to detail with the personalised birthday message left in the room. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Overall excellent stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to explore Rye further!
Nichts
Location fantastic and the hotel is very nice
Breakfast was very poor for the price and the additional £50/night charge for a dog was extreme based on what you got for it. I did agree to it, so I can't or didn't complain.
Beautifully presented, decor was lovely, reception staff were charming and attentive, room was well appointed and very stylishly decorated with all the nice comfort touches. Great location right in the middle of vibrant Rye. We couldn’t have asked for more
Nothing
Stylish and comfortable
Maybe the sitting areas downstairs could have more comfy chairs!
Very comfortable beds and pillows. Excellent breakfast. Lovely staff.
Rather a lot of noise outside idling engines and cars and vans being loaded. Doors slamming and loud talking. I imagine de rigging form the wedding so kept me awake until about 2am. Our room was Street facing (as requested) and happened to be very near the front door. Basically I think if the if the team could of considered more that people would be trying to sleep maybe that would of helped,
Lovely hotel. Oozing with character and very tastefully decorated. Quirky little staircases and corridors, very charming.
Cosy room and lovely breakfast, friendly and helpful staff.
The room was a little hot!
The service was absolutely brilliant also i really enjoyed the steak and chips also the hazelnut dark chocolate cookie dough that was really nice
The town. The hotel, staff, food, and the atmosphere.
Only a small complaint but the room was quite stuffy and no windows to allow for some fresh to circulate.
Superb freshly cooked breakfast. Excellent location.
We booked Sunday lunch. The ‘music’ was ‘beating’ out of a speaker nearby plus a screamy ‘singing’ voice, awful and stressful, takes away the feeling of peaceful conversation and relaxation, creates the opposite. We decided to leave, we had a lovely less expensive roast lunch at The Mermaid, no stress. Staff did offer to turn it down but we don’t like it at all.
Location and the memory that our parents stayed here in 1957
All vey good
My room was beautiful and very luxurious. Rye is a pretty little town.
Nothing!!
Chambers petites mais sincèrement très très jolies
Rien
I really liked the atmosphere here — the venue is decorated beautifully and has a warm, inviting feel that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy yourself. The drinks were lovely and well-prepared, and the bar staff were very friendly and welcoming, which definitely added to the overall experience. However, I was quite shocked when my scallop arrived. While it was nicely presented and tasted good, it was just a single scallop priced at £11, which felt excessive and a bit disappointing. It unfortunately took away from what was otherwise a really pleasant visit.
We have just returned from our son’s wedding at The George in Rye, and had the most fabulous time. It was a large wedding which took over the whole hotel, and from the minute we arrived the staff were amazing. It was such a warm and friendly atmosphere. The canapés, wedding breakfast and breakfast were all exceptional. Anna Campanella, the wedding planner goes the extra mile to make everything just so, and greets everyone with warmth and great care. All the staff were so nice, efficient and friendly. The rooms are cosy and beautifully decorated. Rye is such a beautiful setting for a wedding, and the short walk to the Town Hall for the ceremony was lovely, and the return with the town crier leading the way, was an exceptional experience. We can’t recommend it enough.
Great location in the centre of town. Beautiful hotel, staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. Lovely room, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Great value for money - it felt luxurious and made our overnight stay feel like a real holiday. Very quiet in the rooms even tho it’s on the high street. Food and service excellent. Would highly recommend.
Everything
I didn't like that the second night I booked was over $100 more expensive. Coudn't quite figure that out.
Breakfast was as expected, I tried the toasties and they were great, just about right for me as I am not a big morning eater.
The only thing that happened that upset our usual routine was a wedding reception held in the courtyard, where we like to settle for a drink when we got back to the hotel. Not a big deal but inconvenient as I am a smoker, so the courtyard ws ideal for me, especially as the weather was sunny and warm.
The room and even though I didn't eat breakfat but a few times in the 7 days I was there, I could see what a full breakfast menu was available.
The front lobby is deplorable, furnishings need to be replaced. The sofa and cushions looked like they have been used as a dog bed. Stuffing from the sofa was underneath on the floor, I didn't go near it.
This was such a lovely stay! We went for a night stay jus to relax and this place was perfect. Harry the concerige was lovely from the start helping with recomendations, we then came to check in and Ruby was super lovely, we got a cute map of the village and a great idea for lunch! Our room was so lovely, a massive bath and a cute radio that was playing as we went in, made the atmosphere so great!! We then went out for dinner and came back for some drinks in the bar, Harry the bartender was so lovely and made us some delicious drinks. Slept like a baby and had a lovely day in rye! 10/10 recommend , the courtyard area is really sweet for a drink in the sunshine :)
Beautiful hotel, lovely room.
N/A
Perfect location.
Nothing
The hotel room was gorgeous, big bed and a bath in the room! The food in the restaurant was delicious. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The beer garden was well maintained and very comfortable.
The light above our bathroom mirror didn’t work. The starters in the restaurant were a bit complicated, could’ve been simpler.
The staff are so lovely here. Rooms are great proportions and high level or cleanliness throughout. The restaurant manager is a great character and made us feel so welcome. Breakfast was lovely and restaurant service was informal but personal.
The cosy double bedrooms would be great to come with coat hooks on the wall or back of door.
My family, 6 of us, stayed at The Grorge, Rye April 2026. We had 3 'Superior' rooms. These rooms were absolutely filthy, thick(no, VERY thick) dust and dirt every where - in my letter (email) of complaint to the 'so called General Manager', a Mr Sergio Gomes, I likened the rooms to what I thought you may find in a Doss House (not that we've ever been in one). The 'double flush' toilet was broken and didn't work, the spoons provided in the room were too large to fit in the neck of the coffee jar so it had to be 'poured out', totally senseless and irresponsible indicating a 'couldn't care less' attitude. You had to guess where the staff had hidden the tea, coffee, milk etc (hidden in a box in the corner of the wardrobe with a hair dryer on top). In reply to my email to Mr Gomes, all he could offer as a gesture of good will, was an upgrade should we stay there in the future. Firstly we already had (so called) upgraded rooms which we paid for and were disgusting, so what's the point of accepting that so-called upgrade, and secondly, why on earth would we want to stay there again. Finally, just to add insult to injury, in an email apology to my son, Mr Gomes couldn't even get our surname correct. You may think that is excusable - NOT in this case - our surname is RYE. Yes the Hotel is in Rye, our surname is Rye, but the email was addressed to Mr Ryan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Incompetant throughout - need I say any more.
We didn’t actually stay here but had a really nice meal that was made extra special by being looked after by the very friendly and charismatic Ruyman. All our food was delicious and we will definitely return again at some point in the near future. Thank you Ruyman for making our evening so special!
Fabulous building. Staff were friendly & extremely helpful. Great location. Wonderful shower. Green teabags in the room!!!
We didn’t like the room we were allocated but rectified really quickly. Parking is a bit of a pain Wednesday/Thursday.
The bed was comfortable and the pressure in shower was great. The room was very quiet and curtains thick kept the light out. The room was clean.
First impressions were a great disappointment. We had booked a cosy room at £265. I had expected something like the yellow room in the picture. Instead it looked really shabby. The wallpaper looked like wrapping paper had been put all over the walls and ceiling and it was torn in parts and uneven. The tv was on and the radio when we entered the room. The tea was hidden in the cupboard and only one teabag per person available. I hate uht milk and would expect more at this price. The handwash dispenser is very far from sink and it didn’t work in the shower. An almost finished toilet roll was left on toilet roll holder. We weren’t able to use the bar as there was a wedding party on our arrival. For dinner we had steak, no vegetables on the menu to go with it other than salad, this was very bland and old looking leafs. The steak itself was huge and nothing else on the plate other than chips. It’s not how you advertise this place. On arrival I was asked to hand over my credit card as it’s now all on Apple Pay , I had not brought one and I had already paid for the room . I don’t see the need for this and whilst the concierge was ok with it , it just sets a bad tone on arrival. The dining room is pained a dark colour to make it cosy but it really isnt. The beautiful wooden shutters had light sockets in them which ruined them. The lights looked like they were made of an old beige bedspread.
