We really enjoyed our stay at the Hope Anchor Hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the hotel itself has a lot of character. It is a beautiful historic building with lovely views, which makes the atmosphere feel very special. Everything was comfortable and pleasant, and we would happily stay here again.
Het ontbijt
Alles is erg verouderd
Great location, excellent choice for breakfast.
Coffee at breakfast was dreadful and undrinkable which was a shame as everything else was good.
Character building in cute village. Reasonable price. Very hot but provided a fan.
Nothing
Loved the staff and breakfast. Location was very good. Close to everything. A beautiful historic town.
We had to pay for parking at the Strand carpark daily. But it was very close to the hotel.
Location is great, good for getting around Rye, and they are part of a chain of properties which link. We had breakfast and the lady who looked after all the people at breakfast was excellent- nothing was too much trouble. When we left the cleaner went out of her way to help us.
Room was large but tired. A few things would dog a kind way towards freshening it up. Mattress very poor. Reception when we arrived was not great or customer oriented. It gave a vans first impression
Molto bella e centrale
Prachtige locatie, vlakbij mermaid street.
Room was very sweet - location very central with great views and quiet. Cooked breakfast was good. Tea facilties in bedroom were good.
Just personal but the coffee from the machine at breakfast was a bit metalic so I left it and bread such as sourdough would have been a nice touch.
Lovely historic building in town centre, elevated position, great views. Good breakfast, quirky room with super king bed. Close to parking.
Beer selection ok but would have preferred ale on hand pump although I understand that this needs careful management. Therefore a better selection of bottled beers would be welcome.

Koselig hotell
Staff were incredibly friendly and kind. Passionate about Rye and surrounding areas and nothing was too much trouble. Great location, bed was comfy, shower facilities were fine.
A little bit old and tired, which made some bits look a little unclean - but mostly it felt clean. Got our breakfast orders wrong a couple times and food was ok.
Location. Peaceful and tranquil. Friendly staff
Decor in bedroom a little tired and dated, but this did not bother me at all. Charming old school lounge, and excellent breakfast
Excellent location and friendly, helpful staff, which helped make up for the shortcomings.
Unfortunately, the decor feels a little tired and it wasn’t as clean as expected. The main disappointment was the breakfast - both the buffet and cooked options seemed to use poor-quality ingredients, with reheated, chewy mushrooms and very vinegary-tasting eggs. The location was a real plus, though, and helped make up for it.
Parking was a bit of a juggling act, but in fact turned out pretty well in the end. Everything else was pretty good. We found a nice little Italian restaurant 10 minutes walk from the hotel, down the hill and in the town centre.
Parking, but it is easy to park 5 minutes walk down the hill at the Strand carpark during the day, as long as you get there about 9 am.
Erg mooi sfeervol hotel, ontzettend vriendelijk en behulpzame mensen. Voortreffelijk ontbijt.
Very welcoming and both members of staff we met were most friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spotlessly clean and well supplied with toiletries. The only slight drawback to our accommodation was that as ours was an attic room, we had to be mindful of the sloping rooves. Breakfast was very good and service excellent.
As stated above, care was needed to avoid the sloping rooves. Ok
We didn't like anything about this hotel but satisfied with staff efforts to do their job at their best.
The room and the hotel itself requires a lot of updates, wall paper in our room peeling off, windows didn't open properly we had to propped it up and the bed and pillows were not very comfortable.
Gute Lage. Erwas ins Alter gekommen.

Nive room, nice situation, friendly reception
The breakfast as the coffee was undrinkable and the mushrooms served were strange and unpleasant
Quirky, good location and freshly cooked breakfast. Good value for money and helpful communication prior to stay.
TV reception temperamental. Outside space could be updated as it is a lovely sunny spot for an evening drink.
Lovely location and very friendly staff.
Breakfast wasn’t as tasty as I’d hoped
Lovely little hotel with friendly staff. We had a charming room in the eaves with stunning views. Great location.
Can't eat or park there.
The room was of a good size and although the hotel is set on a hill. The location had lovely views and it was very peaceful. The staff were all very friendly and we had housekeeping everyday. The hotel had a happy hour too!!
When we first got into our room there was a beetle crawling across our bed!! The fan may only just have been put in the room but it was very dusty. The there was no plug near the fridge for us to be able to plug it in! Our room was split into two sections and although there was a TV in both sections one of them was not working.
Nichts anzumerken.
Ligging was mooi
Heel oud en stoffig, niet schoon
Good location.
While I understand that historic buildings cannot always accommodate air conditioning, the fans provided were too small for the room, and the windows did not fully open. Given the price, I don't feel the room we stayed in did the hotel justice.
Fabulous location. Good view from room. Good breakfast.
Room was a little tired and shabby
My room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. I had a good night's sleep. The location is very convenient.
I think gluten free provision could be improved. I gave several days notice of my requirements but there was no gluten free breakfast cereals and no gluten free biscuits in the room. Overall, although efficient, I felt there was a friendliness and warmth lacking.

Staff very helpful
Romm and en-suite were tired: lumpy mattress, chipped paint and worn linoleum in bathroom
Beautiful historic building, lovingly kept true to its roots. Spacious, clean rooms with one of the comfiest beds I’ve slept in and a lovely range of items at breakfast. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
It would have been nice to have a curtain or door in the family room (room 3) to separate the child’s sleeping area off.
Had a small issue with our room which was delay with very professionally by the hotel.
Nothing
Lovely authentic place it the middle of Rye. The beds are amazing and everyone is very friendly. The breakfast was also very good!
It is a bit outdated and small. Especially for people of above average length, it is not very suitable. We could barely stand straight in the room on the top floor.
Great location. The lady at breakfast was friendly and cheerful.
The receptionist was too busy on her mobile and was extremely uninterested in booking us in. Flower beds outside hadn't seen any attention in years. Very old fashioned decor.
Beautiful old building in the middle of Rye from the 18th century.
Due to the age some things were a bit weird. Ground is not even in the rooms, super low ceiling for tall people not easy
Camera silenziosa e carinissima.
Breakfast choice was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient
Ontzettend lekker gegeten in The Fig.
Our bed broke! I had to sleep on the floor! My back is still aching! I tried to speak to somebody using the phone number provided, no one answered the phone.
Nice historic hotel but room wanting and heavily overcharged. Very good breakfast.
Room uncomfortable, bathtub and sink squeezed in, only one nightstand. Seating only in small windowless anteroom with soiled carpet. For the simplicity of the room, price almost double as high as adequate.
The location Good breakfast
The hotel is poorly maintained, and the carpets were dusty and stained. There's a gap between the pictures you see on booking and real life. Had we known the floors have carpets, we would have booked
Just a few min.walk to center in a quiet street.
Staff was friendly.
Premises felt old and outdated (carpets need replacing). Not easy to reach by car, so we had to park our car in a public parking and carry our heavy luggage all the way up to the hotel. TV didn’t work properly.
Great Staff & breakfast
Nothing
Had huge potential
Dated and a bit scruffy. No one on premises during the night. Absolutely dead although quite a few guests. No one left their rooms. There was a bar but completely unused during our stay. Boooking time for and ordering breakfast the night before more like a hostel.
De inrichting en vriendelijk personeel. We konden onze fietsen binnen stallen.
Lage deuren.
Location and the building was beautiful and in a lovely location. Pretty furnishings.
Staff - one member of staff was lovely, but the other was surly and unhelpful. We came down for breakfast and were ignored, even tho we didnt know where to go for breakfast. No introduction to the food and guests tried to interact with her but got nowhere. Terrible customer service. Would not go back in a million years - 180 quid a night to be treated like that !
Large room with a beautiful decoration. And very nice and quiet location.
Furniture quality. We had to wait long time just to check in and check out.
La habitacion un amor!!! La ubicación un 10!!! Y la atencion muy buena
Nada
The Hope Anchor is a very historic hotel located in the highest part of the wonderful town of Rye. Having a parking space available was a huge plus! The property itself is nice and full of antique charm. We also really appreciated that they ask you to select your breakfast menu the night before—as a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see great veg options. Also, the breakfast staff in the morning were very friendly! Overall, the town is stunning and the hotel is definitely recommended for a one-night stay!
We arrived around 9:15 PM, which was still within the allowed check-in window. However, the lady at the reception wasn't very welcoming and seemed almost annoyed to speak with us, which wasn't a very nice way to start our stay.
Comfortable bed
Tired furniture, very dusty in places , The shower wasn't that great, and the duvet had stains on it So did the pillow's
Amazing staff. Lovely hotel.
