Non refundable booking. Was emailed a few days later to advise there was a wedding. Our rooms were underneath the reception room. Nice view of the lake though
Brilliant staff great location
Paper thin walls really impacted on the stay. I woke my wife to stop her snoring only to discover it was the person next door I was hearing. Hotel in beautiful setting. Breakfast was really nice and staff are very polite and friendly.
Just there for one night - all good
What a smashing place so close to the water with stunning views. Staff were ever so helpful.
This is a beautiful building on a beautiful setting, worst thing is that best western have their hands on it. Rooms as dated, dirty, items broken, blood and stains on bedding, far too hot, broken noisy fan trying to combat it. The staff are ok but clearly don’t want to be there and this location should have a spa retreat welcome. No staff around after 10pm and couldn’t find anyone at 8am to complain to. Food is decidedly average - again, in this area it should be local food all the way. This was like eating in a below average pub. The dining rooms, like the rooms, are from another era. Whilst clean, it’s horrifically white, always set up for brekfast “nothing says enjoy your dinner” whilst they’re putting the cornflakes out. Bar area doesn’t have enough seating, and why do i need to go to the bar? You can see my glass is empty. Overall you could solve most of this with 4 weeks of maintenance, cleaning and staff training. In reality it’s very sad that this place isn’t run as a boutique / spa hotel. The usual best western experience - awful.
Access straight into Rutland Water- very pretty, quiet and peaceful, lovely staff and nice room. Maybe a little tired in some places but in no way detracts from your stay - can’t wait to book again…and dogs are also allowed in some rooms - bonus!!
Great stay for our anniversary
comfortable enough room, friendly service at reception dated room need of a refresh. nice location
A warm welcome at reception. On a very hot day it was wonderful to step into my room and find a fan on. All staff were friendly and helpful. My room was spotless and had everything I needed. The large bed was very comfortable. I had dinner and breakfast, both were very tasty. The dinner menu had an excellent selection of food. Free parking close to my room was very welcome. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for your excellent service and hospitality.
Disappointed that it is impossible to be sure that you can have a dog friendly room at the time of booking, to be sure of getting a room you have to book, then check if a dog friendly room is available. In our case it wasn’t so I had to cancel and book elsewhere, and got ripped off for £160 cancellation fee. Not happy about this, Expedia need to sort this out - no point being an online booking business if you have to contact the hotel directly
The property might be rated three star but the staff are rated five star in our mind. They were polite, attentive, efficient and engaging when spoken to. The hotel and the whole of Rutland we found to be really helpful and polite. It`s the way Norfolk used to be but is sadly lacking in a lot of establishments these days. Nice to see that hospitality is still alive and well in Rutland and surrounding areas, The hotel is looking a little tired but didn`t spoil our stay any way, shape or form. Lot`s of rabbit holes around the garden area so be careful if walking off of the paths. We took our dog Oakley with us but unfortunately he had to stay on the lead around Rutland water as it is all about wildlife and the area being eco-friendly. There is an area of about an acre over at Sykes Lane where they can be let off the lead. Oakley, only eight months old was fascinated by the rabbits, birds, sheep and various other animals roaming outside the back of the hotel. He also had a fantastic holiday and was allowed inside parts of the hotel. Thanks to all the staff for a very relaxed visit.
Lovely setting, recommended
Disgusting unclean, unfriendly and in desperate need of renovation and new front of house staff
The Normanton Park hotel was excellent. The experience with Expedia and our original hotel booking was terrible. We booked several weeks in advance and had a confirmed booking by Expedia at the other hotel, the booking was cancelled at short notice by a phone call from the hotel. It took me 3 hours on the phone to get Expedia to find us another hotel in the area. The original hotel was no help at all, Expedia suggested we call the hotel direct and rebook at a higher cost. Expedia & the other hotel terrible. Normanton Park hotel excellent.
The staff were some of the best I've experienced, from the front desk to the restaurant. All went out of their way to be helpful and make my visit special. The hotel location, right off the walkway around Rutland Water was wonderful. Great views and easy access to the nearby marina and basic cafe. And the restaurant was in an orangery facing the water...beautiful. The on-site restaurant offerings were spot on. The breakfast service was your basic English breakfast but well done, high quality, and attentive service. Dinner was perfectly done...only 4 or 5 appetizer and 4 or 5 main course offerings. But these were high quality, properly cooked dishes and, from what I had, all fresh ingredients. Excellent dining experience. The only reason I didn't give a score of 10 across the board was the following... In booking through an app, I think I got one of the last rooms at a great rate. But the hallway leading to the room and the room and bathrooms themselves small, not much room for my bags and no real desk room. All of that is a little tricky for a 6'4" tall person. Still, I would definitely return to enjoy what overall was a great experience.
Waited 15 minutes for someone to appear at Reception. We and another guest hunted around for staff. No apology when a man eventually found time to check us in.
After we upgraded our room, we were much happier and it had a view of the lake. The initial room was supposedly with a courtyard view but there wasn’t one and it was so cramped. We had a lovely stay. The meals were good and the staff very helpful and pleasant
Lovely location
Quite a find. Lovely location with old style service
Paid extra for the better room. No cold water through the shower so water was scalding. Used bath instead using kettle to take cold water from sink to cool water do. Spa feature if the bath did not work. Could hear the plumbing from room above us and when they were walking around it was loud. Breakfast was warm to cold. Was disappointed because it is in a beautiful setting and close enough that we would have visited again.
Overall the hotel was very nice however I’ve stay in hotels almost weekly either for business or for leisure and there were things at this hotel that I have not experienced for a very long time. They only serve breakfast until 9:30 am which weekend is exceptionally early. And checkout is 10:30 am which I have almost never ever experienced. They charge £15 an hour for late checkout which is particularly high for a three star hotel. The staff were very nice and the food was good although breakfast was pretty average and at £12.95 should have been better than average. The views over the lake are lovely.
We have been about 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years. We really enjoy staying there friendly staff, comfortable, and it feels like coming home after a long walk.
Loved position. Room could of done with a little more thought. No bedside lights or windows that opened easily.
Our stay was spoilt by a wedding party immediatey below us. Incesantly loud, thumping dance music that mmeant we didn't sleep until well after midnight, We had not been informed.
Nice place very helpful staff, everything worked well, shower temperature control a bit quirky
Perfect location for an overnight stay when visiting the horse trials. Parking is via the parking eye so details to be entered at reception. Advise booking a table in advance for dinner. Food was lovely, fresh and quick to arrive.
The staff were polite, courteous and professional. The property and the decor need decorating, however the location and views of Rutland water (especially the sunsets) are spectacular.
Awful place. Needs full refurb. Dirty, tired, unorganised which is a shame as the location is superb
Great location & clean room. Room was however tired & dated & in need of investment. It needed a power shower, bedside lamps, more power sockets & a bigger better placed tv. Breakfast was okay but staff struggled with demand, it reminded me of scout camp ! We had to wait for plates and glasses. Hotel generally needs some serious nvestment before ii'd consider returning.
.
Great location. We had a dog with us so were given a basic quite tired room which was same price as a much nicer rooms in the main house. A bit cramped. Food was good and prepared very quickly. Bar area a bit of a thoroughfare. Staff wee very friendly and service was excellent.
There was a wedding on so we had a free firework display! The waiter at dinner did not open or pour our wine just brought it in a bucket and left it on the table.
Beautiful hotel, in lovely surrounding
Beautiful setting, so tranquil and calm. We were on a cycling adventure when we stayed at this wonderful hotel. The staff were caring and professional, they found us a secure inside space to park our bikes, which left us free to relax and not worry about the security of them. We had a lovely evening wander around Rutland water( not all the way round, its 17 miles !) Our bed was probably one of the comfiest we had ever slept in. Thanks to everyone who looked after our stay.
one night. Had great lake view. One thing, the main page says laundry but they dont have laundry there.
really small rooms with thin walls. can hear everything. however bed was good.
Beautiful place in an amazing location. Staff friendly and helpful, room was clean & comfortable with a view of the lake. Breakfast was nice.
I cant recommend this hotel enough right from check in to check out the staff were super friendly and helpful they couldnt do enough for you and the bed was super comfy we will definitely stay here again if in the local area Prices are reasonable for food and cooked very well, breakfast was a buffet help yourself and has a varied choice for everyone and willing to do extras if needed fresh choice of eggs etc. Thank you for the lovely stay would recommend the luffenham room lovely view and very spacious.
The stay was lovely. Location was excellent, next to the lake/ reservoir. Hotel was clean and staff were friendly. Food was excellent.
lakeside view
We were fishing and hotel very convenient
We had problems with the difficult water controls for the shower resulting in almost getting scalded as it was impossible to turn the cold water on without instructions on how to do it. Also, asa pensioner, I found the floor of the bath very slippy. I needed a bath mat
Convenient for our needs Pleasant hotel with friendly staff
It was so disgraceful, the room was too small ( tiny) not comfortable to stay. There was a window that was too high needed a step ladder to look out what was outside the room. Kennel is much better than the room that we stayed. It was so frustrating even the shower , blocked the water didn’t drain.
Lovely stay in an excellently located hotel by Rutland Water. Watched sunset over the lake from the conservatory restaurant. Excellent food and service. Comfortable room and lovely garden leading down to the waterfront foot/cycle path. Cycle hire 10 minutes walk away. Great place to get away from it all in a beautiful rural setting
Great hotel if you want easy access to the lake. 10 minutes walk to the church and 15 to the sailing club. However almost 2 hours walk to the hides for osprey Interesting fact this hotel could be five star because of the location, but is not luxury. Tired rooms and staff
Friendly staff and comfortable, but the single room in desperate need of a painting with an update for the price. The lighting from the car park was far too bright in the room, question the need for such brightness all through the night when not in regular use.
Fab location right on the lake. Staff are great. Rooms are basic but functional. Food ok with good selection for breakfast. Lovely open fire in bar area. Plenty of parking.
The staff were extremely helpful & polite, very quiet peaceful location
Not great.. just about ok... room was cold when we entered on a cool evening with no instructions as to how to use the heater in the room
was a great stay the only fault i could comment on is that the emergency door lighting in room keeping room bright and not needing to put lights on in room
Friendly staff. It was right next to Rutland water so great for a morning stroll or just nice to have a great view to admire over breakfast. . Picture on the website does not really do it justice, it looks far better when you arrive, especially the front courtyard entrance.
Very nice location.Interior rather tired could do with an update.Staff friendly and accomodating.Lovely location.
Friendly helpful staff, pleasant environment. Wonderful being so near Rutland Water and seeing the view fromy room.
Amazing location great view across the lawns to the lake not a fancy hotel but good solid choice . Friendly staff.big room firm comfy beds .tremendous value for money . Did not eat meals as had other arrangements but some people were eating there
Fantastic place to stay, there is a nice walk around the lake. The food was nice and quickly served at the restaurant. The staff was very friendly. When you book ask if theere is aparty on as the hotel accomodates weddings. I definitely got the value back for £63 for last-minute booking.
Just requires a bit of maintenance. It’s a bit grotty around the bathroom. No toilet roll holder, it’s just broken and half missing. The work top doesn’t line up and is all coming away. It’s all just in desperate need of a bit of money invested back in it. The location is unbelievable, it could be so, so much more with the correct investment.
Excellent staff throughout
Great location, beautiful surrounding atmosphere, great staff. Most friendly and helpful receptionist and staff ever, lovely and great first impression of hotel. Everything about the hotel was exceptional. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in where we had dinner. The breakfast was good and great value for money and service was attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I was very pleased with my stay. I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.
Location is wonderful - spacious lawn leading down to Rutland Water.
Great
Room 2 was the smallest I have been in for a long time, I think there should be a price difference for this lack of space. The courtyard rooms are much better.
Comtable stay, although poor breakfast
Beautiful location next to Rutland Water. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Comfortable hotel, in a beautiful setting overlooking Rutland Water. Sorry we only booked one night: next time we'll stay longer to enjoy the local area.
The hotel is ideally situated by Rutland Waters with many walks available and great garden. The staff were all extremely pleasant, for us Lauren and the receptionist (sorry forgot her name) made our stay special.
Staff are very friendly, polite and always on hand if you need anything. They have a lovely garden and plenty of parking. Breakfast is continental and full English. Will definitely stay again if we are travelling that way again.
Was very excellent hotel in a lovely location
Very friendly staff
We had room 3, forget trying to get any sleep if people are in the bar as you are directly above and can hear every word said and everything else as well. You could see the downstairs lighting through the floorboards We also ate at the hotel. The starter was tiny, tiniest pieces of bread and pate, Rump steak was nothing special although the staff were very pleasant. I complained about the room the following morning and was told to email in about the room, I have sent a follow up email and sadly no one from management has bothered to reply.
Great friendly service, beautiful location but the rooms are a bit tired and very hot in my case (under the roof). Food is very average at best.
The receptionists were excellent, so welcoming and obliging. The room was clean and had everything we needed. We ate in the bar at night, food was reasonably priced, good quality and delicious. I will definitely stay there again, it was perfect for our stay.
Exellent value
The condition of the room was awful for the money, see the photos, also there was no help from the reception when we stated we would not be able to make the limited (7:30 to 9:30) breakfast times, nor any help with the on site electric vehicle charging. Largely all round useless reception and a room seriously in need of a refurb. If it was half the price I might have forgiven it.
The staff were friendly, but the room was very tired. I stayed in one of the adjoining cottages, which was very poor. I could hear next doors noise on both sides of the adjoining rooms, and the room above. The walls are paper thin, I could even hear when they were going to the toilet!!! Add to this the very expensive meals, made my stay disappointing, I wont be staying there again.
Wonderful Location on the shore of Rutland water.
Lovely location beside Rutland Water. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
When booking make sure if you are after a quiet time that no weddings are taking place as there is a thudding from music felt through the room
Stay in this area 6-8 times per year and thought I’d give this a try as location is superb. Hotel looks a bit tired and staff not overly welcoming or helpful but the worst thing is the food. Hugely overpriced and not pleaseant. £22 for a bowl of seafood linguine that was obviously made from a cheap bag of frozen seafood from a supermarket. Breakfast wasn’t any better. OK to stay just avoid the food!
We enjoyed the visit and the position of the hotel is amazing. We hardly saw any staff in the 3/4 days we were there, and were disappointed with the food.
Reception staff and manager very helpful at check in when they managed to change our room to an accessible one, even though the hotel was nearly full. Bedroom spacious. Breakfast staff very friendly and breakfast excellent. Location of hotel couldn't be better with beautiful views of Rutland water.
lovely location. rooms look a little tired but perfectly serviceable.
Such a beautiful venue, gorgeous room overlooking the garden; pheasant, woodpecker, wonderful location, the mist over the reservoir was so mystical! From the moment I stepped in all the staff I met were so friendly and helpful, I look forward to my next stay with you. Highly recommend.
Lovely hotel in a lovely location, room was comfortable. Would stay again.
The property looked very inviting . Lots of parking and lovely surroundings. Stunning.
First night all around the hotel was cold, even though the bar had a lovley open fireplace no one had lit. Had to clean stains off the headboard before I went to bed, not great! Pillow was very lumpy. And could barely find my room as the hall way light was never switched on, I had to use the torch on my phone. The bathroom light was faulty and kept flashing and making banging noises, also the bathroom fan was very loud. I’ve probably made this sound worse than it was but all the above was how it was at the hotel. Good points were staff were nice and grounds were lovley, food wasn’t bad either.
The room was newly renovated because I still smelled a hint of paint. The room was spacious and modern. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and immaculate. The location was great for walking around Rutand Waters. Breakfast was also great! We also had dinner there which was sumptuous. The staff were very helpful and attentive.
A lovely hotel with a great view. However food especially the evening meal was dreadful we had to send it back and still got charged a whopping £80 for the two of us. Breakfast charged at £12 for a cooked meal was very basic and food looked as through it had been sitting there for a few hours However staff were very helpful and friendly/
Very convenient for a business trip I was in town for
The location is stunning and the views and the direct access to the waterside walks and facilities - the hotel is very comfortable and the service very friendly
Hotel was lovely. Staff very friendly. Unfortunately fellow guests not so friendly. Kept awake all night by tv noise in the room adjacent. Gave up and came home in the early hours of the morning without staying the whole night and breakfasting. Very disappointed
Nice friendly hotel. Mainly European staff who tried hard. No canopy beds now as they have cut the tops off to avoid dust gathering. Heating is from a wall mounted heater on a timer controlled by the hotel. Good warm duvet. Cooked breakfast is good but the continental is a bit short on offerings. Evening meal suffered from reheated chips/veg which were dry so we tended to eat out. Good steak though.
All round pretty good will return some time in the future
Lovely hotel and every one of the staff that I met get 10/10. Check in and out very quick and friendly. Menu was good and food was great. Wine could do with a look at- well the Pinot Grigio anyway
The hotel was okay, and looked a little tired in places, but the location made up for this. The room we had was clean, in good condition, comfortable, and had a great lakeside view (extra £). The evening meal was poor and we left most of our food. Fortunately breakfast was better. The staff were all very polite and friendly and no complaints there. Acid test - would we stay there again? Yes, but would eat out in the evening and go for the continental breakfast rather than the full English.
The room was excellent, with a lake view. Staff were concerned and charming. Breakfast was OK rather than excellent. I would return
The dressing table and the information book were dirty and did not appear to have been properly cleaned. Breakfast was not available (except in package) due to staff availability problems (general in industry). Very comfortable otherwise in stunning location on banks of Rutland Water. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful
The location of the hotel is amazing with a gate from the garden straight out to the path around the lake and we walked both ways enjoying the lovely scenery and sat watching the sheep! However the hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment and some TLC. Our bedroom on the ground floor overlooking the lake was very drab, the bathroom was in desperate need of an update and there was no aircon. Breakfast was left outside the door in a paper bag even though our visit was after all restrictions were lifted on 19th July. Reason given was that they are unable to recruit a breakfast chef, understandable in this current climate, but why we couldnt have a continental breakfast served at a table in the dining room was unclear! Having read the reviews about the hotel evening food before we arrived, we decided to book a table at a pub in Oakham town centre where we had excellent food and sat in their secret garden, great on such a lovely summer evening. Overall we loved the location of the hotel but will not be returning.
The only problem we had was with the restaurant Maitre D we thought he was rude and should learn to be polite to his customers. In fact, the Manager wasn’t that much better. All I asked from him was there are a brochure or leaflet on the area. No smiles or “can I help you”. Otherwise a lovely stay.
