Excellent buffet breakfast - good selection, well presented & hot cooked choice.
Hard bed & narrow. We did think a hotel of this standard should provide 5 foot beds, rather than 'small double'.
The Luxury King Room was great with lovely views. The room had everything we could possibly need.
Our room was on the 2nd Floor and the lift was out of order which meant we struggled with our luggage up and down the stairs due to our health probs.
Good location & lovely grounds
Not having a separate bar or casual area detracted from the quality of stay, services felt very budget. No aircon just a cheap fan in the room which on a hot day was pretty uncomfortable. Staff in the restaurant very polite and helpful but not mirrored on reception. Reception staff not as engaging or helpful.
Beautiful location
Parking
The staff were friendly
The bedroom was very warm and the pool facilities were not as expected compared to photos on the website
We liked our room - it was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed using the pool and the sauna etc. We liked the fact that there was an adults only time. We also enjoyed the crazy golf. Breakfast was great. The staff replenished items quickly and also cleared the tables efficiently.
Unique Steeped in history Lovely location
Nothing
The room was spacious and very well equipped. Impressive views from our room of the lake. The breakfast was great with a variety of food and we were delighted to have a masala chai from the regular tea/coffee machine!
I liked everything about the room.
Room wasn't cleaned properly very small and outdated would expect better from 4 start cinosted to others I have stayed at
As above
I liked the location of your hotel
I did not enjoy the walk to get the breakfast was to far
Friendly staff, location good
The fact that we kept on getting contacted to book dinner and when we did book a time for dinner was left for 20 min waiting when there was a table already ready we could have sat at. Not happy with getting the service charge added on the bill in the restaurant when we did not get proper service we had to ask 2 times for things and was told they where coming then had to aske again.
Wonderful location on the banks of Rutland Water. Great views and access to path by water. Loved sitting looking at view and watching a kestral roaming the trees and grass in the grounds in the evening. We had a cosy double....and it was rather snug, but well appointed.
We were on the top floor and the lift was broken, no one offered to help us with our luggage on arrival, but a lovely member of the cleaning team helped us when we were leaving. A bedside light broken. We asked for poached eggs for breakfast, they arrived quite a while later and the white was very runny and inedible, especially given the recent salmonella scares. We booked the restaurant for a dinner. One of the specials looked like it ought to be vegetarian but did not have a symbol next to it, so we asked the waiter to be told it was not vegetarian because there was no symbol. When asked if he could tell us why it was not, he said it was because there was an egg in it (clearly stated), when we pointed out that meant it was not vegan, but it could still be vegetarian and could he ask the chef, he came back to say that V was for vegan and Ve was for vegetarian. Again we explained that was not so as he could see from the menu (cheese and egg dishes were labeled with the correct V not Ve), and anyway that did not answer the question just to be told that there wasn't any left anyway. Later, after we had ordered dessert, he came and told us there was a vegan menu but as I was not vegan he had not mentioned it before (I don't actually believe this as it was not mentioned on the menu or online, nor did I believe the special had run out or he had asked the chef). There were no vegan mains however. To cap it all off, the dessert menu listed nothing as vegetarian (though it is possible they all were) and only one as vegan. Even the sorbets were not listed as vegetarian or vegan.....though presumably they were as I ordered the one vegan dessert and it came with a sorbet. The menus need properly labeling. Vegetarianism is incredibly common and veganism increasingly so, and meat eaters happily eat veggie/vegan dishes occasionally! Sorry, but for a place that is selling itself as quality this was terrible service and insulting.
Over looking lake
Fire doors around 452 banging too at 1 o’clock in the morning
The lakeside view, the swimming pool and the friendly staff
Not close to many amenities - nearest shop is 10 minutes drive away
Room, helpful staff. general atmosphere
(1) Swimming pool is v. shallow throughout. (2) The resort has a range of accommodation, but everyone is expected to trek over to Blossoms Restaurant which is ok but lacks a high end dining facility, That said we had some v. good food although starter portion size was meagre. (3) The hotel could do with an additional bar besides Blossoms which is cavernous and functional rather than intimate and comfortable.
We celebrated our Golden wedding anniversary in a Lake view room. A nice touch was to find a plate in our room, with happy anniversary written in chocolate along with some sweets. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed a super meal at the Blossom restaurant. The views and the surrounding area are lovely and we enjoyed a walk down to Rutland water.
Nit-picking but a better makeup mirror could be provided.
Location- view
Breakfast - decoration poor- food just OK, but expected better
Good location, the room was very good and clean. Facilities good.
The main thing for the lower scores was the lack of air conditioning. We stayed 13th August - the hottest day of the year!!!! Plus the 14th….just marginally less intense heat. That aside we very much enjoyed our stay. We did realise about the lack of air conditioning prior to the stay, so we did ask for a fan, which we got and also bought another one with us. At the least the stifling air was moving about!!!
Very clean and friendly staff. Lovely veiws from our balcony.
Nothing couldnt falt anything
The location was perfect for exploring the area of Rutland water. The breakfast offered a fair amount of choice. The swimming pool offered various session types, e.g adults only. The staff when checking in were efficient. Direct access to the footpath around Rutland water was great.
We expected better, disappointing. The parking was far from adequate. Large car parks a fair distance from your room could be used or take your chances to find a parking bay closer. Most parking bays are numbered for the lodges and cannot be used. If your a ''hotel'' guest (I use the term loosely as this does NOT resemble a hotel), you are a second rate guest, taking your chances where to park close enough to carry your luggage. As this site is on a hillside, steep paths had to be used to access your ''hotel room'' (more like a residential block). The lift was out of order for the two nights we were there in our block. The rooms did not have air conditioning, but we did have a fan in the room. The room itself, looked out onto a brick wall, with a walkway just below the window. We did not expect riverside views, but who wants to look at a brick wall? The room was far from quiet as noise from a another building could be heard (music thudding & people talking close by). We were asked to book the restaurant in advance of our arrival, This did not make a difference as the staff were slow in responding to us. Once our food orders were taken the delivery of courses was ok. The presentation of the starters was extremely poor, a slice of toasted bread for welsh rarebit with some crab sprinkled across the top, slipping around a plate without a hint of garnish-poor. Our main courses were not great, over attentive staff, three to be precise asking if you needed anything. We did not eat in there a second evening. We can recommend The Twisted Trout pub ten minutes away in the car. Our breakfast was included, it was possible to find something to eat. The very processed sliced bread for toasting and other elements of the breakfast made me feel as though I had booked a very poor holiday camp. Definitely below our expectations. We were disappointed and had high expectations. We will not be returning or recommending this venue.
Room was really small No fridge in the room The bathroom was small and couldn't stand up straight in the shower due to the angled ceiling The bed was a small double. Couldn't book dinner at the restaurant due to it being busy Would have thought that for a guest staying overnight there would be a table available for dinner. Not worth the price paid. Stayed in a nicer premier Inn for half the price.
The location is perfect on the edge of the lake
Being kept awake for several hours by music which was far too loud. No one objects to parties and dancing etc but when the music is so loud it causes the floor of your room to vibrate it is not good
Location and staff. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Dinner service (Yatish) was very good - delightful manners, nothing too much trouble, always a smile. Reception very good and informative, help with parking etc.
Area outside of blossoms was scruffy, dirty uncleaned tables and generally looking run down with dirty windows etc. A pity because location is great. Very good. Our room was stiflingly hot but exceptional outdoor temperatures were beyond hotel’s control. A fan was supplied but helped only a little.
Local area beautiful Buggy service if booked in plenty of time.
Rude staff at front desk No AC and rubbish fan that didn’t work. Lack of support with luggage for elderly
Everything excellent.
There was nothing not to like .
Nice room with a view of Rutland Water. Very clean.
Parking very difficult. Restaurant a long way from room up some extremely steep steps. Considering it’s classed as a 4 star hotel it was very disappointing to find no fridge in room and a decent coffee machine which we get in a Premier Inn for a lot less money. No air conditioning which would have been desirable. Breakfast buffet was of an acceptable standard but it would have been nice to have the offer of eggs freshly cooked
Location, room and breakfast were all good (lack of toiletries was a shame) Only when we left and mentioned it did they say you could ring down to request shampoo/conditioner etc - was too late !
The "Spa" was not a spa . It was an indoor pool with a very poor/shabby sauna and steam room as 2 boxes plonked next to the pool and a shower alongside in full view of everyone . There were massive gaps around the door in both sauna and steam room !
Lovely location Good disabled services
Accessible room was under par for the money
Beautiful setting and lots of activities around the grounds
The hotel was feeling tired and needed some TLC and investment everywhere. It’s certainly not fitting of the price point. Nothing was terrible it was just ok, just not what you’d expect for the price. breakfast was average and the room didn’t have aircon which again is poor at that price level.
The excellent location, stunning views and superb suite.
It's quite a steep walk either down to Rutland water or up to the spa and bar/dining room. A golf buggy can be ordered.
Exceptional
Having a mini fridge in the room.
Location, staff and food all good
The Staff were friendly.
We booked a King Size Room with a LAKE VIEW. This was for my wife's Birthday. The was £258 without a Lake VIEW a view of the back of the hotel. Evening meal cost £212 looked and tast nice until within 30mins of eating I was sick throughout the night offered 20% meal for the room. Being Sick still being investigated.
Location and Environment
Our recent stay at Rutland Hall was unfortunately far below expectations. Several issues across multiple rooms and shared facilities made the experience uncomfortable and disappointing. None of the in‑room phones were functional, making it difficult to contact reception even after informing them. The WiFi was consistently unavailable throughout the stay. All rooms we checked into had visible dust on surfaces, shelves, and corners, indicating inadequate cleaning and housekeeping standards. The rooms felt cramped, poorly ventilated, and lacked thoughtful layout. Airflow was minimal, making the environment uncomfortable. Several rooms had spider webs in corners and near ceilings, again pointing to insufficient cleaning. The teapot still had used tea inside, suggesting the room had not been properly cleaned or checked before guest arrival. This room had a strong, unpleasant odour upon entry, which was extremely off‑putting and raised concerns about hygiene. The breakfast selection was very limited. Adding vegetables, cheese, and more variety would significantly improve the offering. The televisions in the rooms had multiple channels unavailable or not functioning at all. Even the breakfast area had spider webs visible in the morning, which reflects poorly on cleanliness in shared spaces. Silverfish were found in some of the rooms. Very poor for a 4-star hotel.
We were there for a wedding it was organised very well
The rooms need to be checked make sure everything is working
Hotel set in a peaceful and beautiful location over looking Rutland water. Food at the restaurant was delicious and a good breakfast selection too . Near to Stamford and Burghley House that are definitely worth a visit. Staff were friendly and professional. Hotel has a Spa and the treatment was Amazing.
Gorgeous building, lovely grounds, fantastic choice at breakfast.
Lift was broken and I was on the top floor- there was no mention of that at check in. Very noisy occupants of other rooms staying up until the very early hours of the morning.
Facilities on site pool gym sauna although pool was very warm Gym equipment excellent excellent views
Breakfast wasn’t very warm and not four star offering No personal table service for instance , decided not to have dinner on site unfortunate loss of first nights sleep due to noisy water system reported to reception. Not sure about the holding deposit for any potential damages ! Have stayed at similar hotels not requesting this—
Very clean and beautifully decorated The swimming pool was lovely and having a timetable of what was happening each day was really helpful The staff in the Pool and restaurant were very polite friendly and professional
I booked a ‘Lake view’ deluxe room but could only see a corner of the lake in the distance and our view was of the back of the main hall so was very disappointed but it didn’t spoil my stay
The buildings are beautiful, set in a wonderful location.
Our lake view room had 2 single beds pushed together which made for a very uncomfortable sleep. And for the room rate I paid, I expected at least a portable air con unit in the room at least, not just a small fan. The cleaning of the room could have been improved too, we found several spider webs around the curtains.
Good buffet breakfast. Excellent location.
Lift could have been working. Duvet was too heavy for time of year.
NULLA
Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing from the moment we arrived. We were initially given the wrong rooms, which immediately created confusion and inconvenience. The general level of cleanliness was unacceptable. There were spiders and cobwebs everywhere, while the rooms were damp, dirty and poorly maintained. During a ten-day stay, the bed linen was changed only once, and only after we specifically requested it. There was no air conditioning despite temperatures reaching 38°C. The only solution provided was a number of old and ineffective fans, which did very little to make the rooms more comfortable. The food was poor in both quality and variety. The staff were unhelpful, and whenever we raised a concern, the answers we received were vague, unsatisfactory and failed to resolve the issue. The entire property appears old, neglected and in serious decline. The swimming pool looks more like a puddle than a proper hotel pool, while the grass is overgrown and clearly not regularly cut or maintained. Overall, the hotel is badly managed, poorly maintained and far below an acceptable standard. The photographs and description do not reflect the reality of the property. We would not recommend this hotel and would certainly not stay here again.
Location was excellent.
On arrival the receptionist made no eye contact with us and seemed irritated we had arrived an hour before official check in. This set a disappointing tone to our stay. We felt our room was tired, the plumbing was old. All in all we felt we spent a lot of money on a hotel that did not deliver.
Lovely location, rooms much too small for the costs
Rooms small and very noisy with banging doors
Fantastic location.
Room was too hot, no air flow. Breakfast started very late.
Lots to do on site
Restaurant menu was very limited choices
Room, breakfast and location

bed. was heel erg smal
From the main hall reception, our room, the leisure centre and Blossoms bar and restaurant, they were all kept to an exceptionally high standard. All staff helpful, friendly and polite. Stunning property with rich history.
Beautiful property in an excellent location. Spacious rooms. Large restaurant. Amazing garden and grounds.
On a negative note, we booked the lake view king bedroom. When we arrived we were shown to a ground floor room with no lake view, it did have a garden view but definitely could not see the lake at all from the outside patio. At the price we paid and the description of the room it was very disappointing to be given that room. I went back to reception who changed it for a room on the floor above which did have a lake view. Advice to the hotel, call the other room a garden view room! Also at the buffet breakfast I was advised if I wanted to have a flat white coffee and not the regular coffee served at the buffet that I had to pay £4 per coffee! After paying £700 for a two night stay I found it very poor service and cheap to charge me extra for a decent coffee.
Location, very tranquil Restaurant on site for dinner
Grounds NOT maintained. Grass was cut but the borders were a mess. Dinner menu was poor and in addition several choices were unavailable. Breakfast was average, bread was basic and the eggs overcooked.
Location and great facilities
More expensive than I usually pay, overbooking by Booking.com caused me to make this last minute booking
Surprisingly beautiful location, very comfortable and clean
No ‘lawn clipping’ type tea bags in the room or at breakfast
Beautiful venue and scenery
Service from staff was bad asked for a bottle opener to be sent up it never arrived. Asked for vinegar in restaurant and they just forgot. When seating ppl in the restaurant people were seated before us that arrived after us. Menus were dirty with food spilled all over them.
Beautiful setting with excellent grounds
History and picturesque setting
a nice general location
No AC on a very hot day. Bed room was a Standard King but was only about 8ft wide. shown as a lakeside location, but no access to the lake. The eating location had only a glimpse of the lake in the background and the Hotel had no bar
A stunning location, with wonderful views across Rutland Water, A central place to stay for exploring the local countryside. The room was clean and comfortable. Ample breakfast available to cater for any appetite.
On arrival the parking situation was an unwelcome distraction, we hadn't realised how large the site was when trying to find our accommodation. The room was so hot, I appreciate we were staying during a very hot spell of weather, a fan was provided, but it simply wasn't man enough to cope. The menu was a little limited, we stayed for two days, if we had dined for a further night, we would have struggled to find something that interested us, in addition several of the options on the menu proved to be unavailable.
Everything is right, couldn't fault it
Fab swimming pool but so chaotic, no lanes, everybody everywhere only in for 20mins,couldn't swim. Like council pool
Beautiful hotel and location. The restaurant was lovely and good value for money. The facilities (pool and gym) were also very good and open early in the morning. There was a golf buggy service to get around the campus if need which came in handy for my parents who wouldn't have been able to walk uo the hill to the restaurant.
We arrived in the heatwave and whilst we had been provided a fan, there was no air-conditioning in the room and it was pretty unbearable so we spent our free time I yhe air-conditioned bar. This wan't the hotel's fault - I'm sure the rooms are just fine in more regular temperatures!
Breakfast selection was very good. Reception staff where helpful with bags to the 4th floor as the lift was broken.
The only view of the lake and countryside was from a lake view room. View from the only communal area was obscured by a building. Pool area was small with cramped changing rooms.
A lovely room with a balcony at a beautiful venue.
Reception check in was a bit busy
We liked the location, it was beautiful.
Our was bath leaking and there was no AC during a heatwave.
The surroundings were incredible of course. The welcome was very professional, as were the staff we came into contact with . Our evening meal was ‘ complicated’ and although we enjoyed our main course and desert, the starter was pretty awful. Breakfast was outstanding , but a 9.30 end is a little early in my opinion.
No air conditioning which if I’d realised we wouldn’t have booked , so my error, considering the nightly rate. In many ways the bathroom in particular was very very tired .
Beautiful setting
Lift broken and long way from room to car park. Didn’t like the decor in the dining room.
Room was very spacious comfortable and well equipped Room had lovely view and location of hotel was excellent The on site restaurant was excellent with great service The swimming pool was convenient and well maintained by staff
The lift to the room was out of action - 1 floor only so not too bad but those on floor above may have been affected to a greater degree. The on site restaurant was very good but extremely pricey - we had to eat off site second night because of this
Room spacious and comfortable, good facilities, staff very welcoming and helpful
Restaurant very expressed with limited choice but food you had was very good
Location was great. Nice pool. Lovely walk from hotel around lake.
Room was very small compared to pics. Window behind bed which was rubbish. Bathroom mouldy. Restaurant terrible and overpriced.
Lovely location, rather spread out which was not so pleasant in bad weather- got soaked a couple of times moving around building to building.
Really fantastic location
Car parking arrangements were a little complicated. Lift to restaurant and facilities was out of order, access was by steep steps, though I am sure staff would have provided shuttle if we had a special needs.
Location location location! We were upgraded to a junior suite, delightful with a view over the lake with easy access to the restaurant and leisure facilities. The room was very spacious with a balcony to sit out on a summers evening.
Sadly no room service but you could order takeaway food and take drinks from the bar back to your room. Only disappointment really.
The location was amazing and the staff were friendly.
I paid to check in from 12pm and the room wasn't ready until 1pm
Location is lovely with nice views. Attractive dining room with good breakfast.
Overall, areas of the property are looking quite tired and in need of repair/updating. Our room had a view of a brick wall and staff did walk by which meant we had to close the curtains. The room offered scant lighting offered by 3 lamps only therefore it was very dark. We had to keep bathroom door open wide to allow some light in. On our second night we heard a noise similar to a washing machine filling every 30 seconds which lady opposite us also heard! Very distracting!
We had a view of the water. The room was spacious and we particularly liked having a fridge in the room. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant.
The automatic gratuity on the meal without it being pointed out. Prefer to give a cash tip based on service.
The location (we've stayed before). Onsite parking. Respectful of environment. Comfortable beds. Effective showers with grabrails. Good choice at serve yourself breakfast. Helpful staff. The onsite crazy golf, putting and swim pool.
We were in a cosy double which was comfortable and suitable for our requirements. However could hear noise like a washing machine on cycle in late evening. We checked with hotel reception if we were next to laundry room. We weren't, and they sent a supervisor to check it out. We were moved to Oakham, still a cosy double but comfortable and no noise (which remains a mystery). So extremely obliging hotel staff.
Excellent staff and good food
Excellent location. We stayed in the Windsor suite which was great for our group.
Cleaning could have been better eg dead flies on windowsills, dirty hand marks over doors. One room had an annoying hum. Breakfast was disappointing for the assumed standard of the hotel. Very 3 star buffet. Improved a little on the last day when management were visiting!
