The hotel has had its day. The garden is ruined by the 100s of neighbouring apartments Neglected pool area - rusting slide, broken concrete and some umbrellas mouldy and torn Horizon club staff allow complete breaks of the rules - guests stuffing their bags with drink, guests brining in their own food and wearing inappropriate clothing Food offer in the club exceptionally poor - food unimaginative, bland, cold , lacking any sort of dressing, too meat focused Our experience was so poor we cancelled our planned stay at the Shangri la in Bangkok

The staff were great.

The room had a musty smell that just shouldn't be there in a hotel of this quality. The executive lounge, which should be a place of calm in the evenings was often filled with the noise of children crying and generally being brats. I have nothing against children, I just want a place in the hotel where the people that pay for the rooms can have some peace. There's a kids club, give us an adult's club.

For our short holiday to celebrate my birthday, we went to Chiang Mai and thoroughly enjoyed our 5-night stay at the Shangi-la Chiang Mai. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet was sumptuous. The highlight was returning from a day of shopping at one of the numerous artisans market to find the room transformed into a birthday celebration. It was so thoughtful of Shangri-la to go the extra step to make the day special. Thank you!

Checking in receptionist asked for credit card to charge 10,000 Thb £225.00 in case we did not pay for items from Mini bar and food etc. Declined this and said we always pay cash. They insisted that hotel does not usually make exceptions. Really shocked for a 5 star hotel and confused to the amount that they wanted to take automatically. Still declined and they then phoned G manager who authorised. If we agreed to have all items in mini bar removed. Absolutely shocking and lack of trust towards their guests. Have travelled and stayed in many 5 star properties around the world and never been treated in this manner. When they cleared the mini bar we had not even unpacked before they barged in the room and emptied it as quick as they could. Had asked for an additional bath robe as 3 people in the room, this was thrown down. Breakfast time had to get own tea and coffee out of machines. Tables left uncleared , we returned to table after our first course plates still left there. though on the 3rd day noticed a manager who was very polite and must have said something as on the 4th day service seemed to improve. Security scanner every time you enter hotel. Never known anything like this,told people bring in knives to cut their fruit. Really ? In a 5 star property . Food choice not great and not tasty. Spaghetti bolognaise watery and tasteless for example.Stayed at Anantara Riverside Bangkok prior to arriving in Chiang Mai 5 star service spot on. Staff member outside hotel jewellery shop pestering every time walk past. Concierge service how ever very good delivered ice to our room when daughter hit her knee. Location very good. Room very nice. Could be a very good 5 star if bits mentioned could be improved. No wow factor . Put customer service before thinking guests are going to not pay. Why would you book a 5 star hotel if you did not have the money. Tried to get a drink at the pool bar and told only take credit card. Explained this was all agreed at reception and they had agreed cash, eventually they agreed. Again met with resistance.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a wonderful experience. Staff were friendly, gym was great and the pool was fun. The bar served lovely cocktails and they had a conveniently timed happy hour! Worth a visit and reasonably priced also.

Chaos was amazing! He was so kind and helpful, always smiling, and even helped take care of our child. Thank you, Chaos, for making our stay more enjoyable!

A beautiful hotel in a superb location in the heart of Chiang Mai. The Shagri La has a Spa in which you can receive a risk free Traditional Thai Massage. Elbows, thumbs, pushed into your back to the level pf pressure that you are comfortable with. Mine was outstanding and i must thank Praew for the treatment. Hotel service from all the staff is exemplary and no kindness is overlooked. The pool is great for adults and kids alike. The gym, sauna and steam room are complimentary to guests. Wonderful.

We had a wonderful 5-night family stay at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai. The hotel offers excellent service, with a team that is both highly professional and genuinely friendly. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of choices, the fitness room was well equipped, and we thoroughly enjoyed the spa / welness and swimming pool. A big thank you to the staff for making our stay so pleasant and memorable. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to families but not only visiting Chiang Mai.

Lovely experience at the Shangri-La, Chiang Mai. The location of the hotel was very close to the night market and 15/20mins from the airport. The hotel was beautiful and the rooms were clean. The best part of our experience here was the friendly, approachable and helpful staff who went out of their way to assist us, and in particular my father who had mobility issues. A special thanks to Nu and Chaow at the Concierge desk who were especially kind and helpful. I recommend this hotel to other travellers.

Our visit occurred in the rainy season but we booked three months in advance. Hence, we got a very good room rate. I have no status and we received only a modest upgrade to a garden view room - which was appreciated - thank you. The room was spacious and furnish in a very Shangri-La style - big comfy armchairs - both in the rooms and the same in the public areas. The hotel has good resort facilities and as a result it is very popular with families - especially at the swimming pool - which is big and has a water shute. The breakfast buffet is exceptionally extensive and of good quality. Stand out items were fresh carrot juice and fresh beetroot juice - freshly baked rye bread - and meaty pork sausages. Staff training was uniformly good - with special thanks to Noah at the front desk - Babe a host at the breakfast buffet - Molly in housekeeping.

We have stayed at other Shangri La hotels but this one wasn’t our favourite sadly. The room was battered and the hotel needs renovation/ updating. Note if you book for 4 people (2kids) it’s common for them to expect 1 of them to sleep in with you and charge you for 1 rollaway bed. The management sorted this for us promptly. The sun beds round the pool aren’t 5 star standard, updates and more comfort are required. Pool was great, slide is a nice addition, staff attentive. Breakfast was ok, food overall was good however accommodation for gluten free in the evening meal was poor. My husband got offered 2 options including a salad one night. Hotels position was out of the main square next to a big apartment block which looks over the pool but it was quiet, an easy walk to the night market or tuk tuk into the action which was perfect for us. 7 eleven is an easy walk, felt very safe area. Decent hotel and price, big chain feel.

Praew was such an amazing masseuse. Chi spa also offers a great relaxing experience at a price that’s worth it. They also have everything you need. I spontaneously decided to have a massage after swimming and I didn’t need to bring anything. They had everything i needed.

went to chi spa and had the best massage from praew - highly recommend the thai herbal compress massage! it was brilliant. i walked out taller and felt like i lost weight! the hotel grounds, rooms, and service were all excellent. full marks

I love expensive hotel spas ❤️ their exotic smells, koi ponds, and endless tranquil pavilions are always a special sanctuary inside a beautiful hotel. The whole experience is so luxe... But I wouldn't ordinarily visit one, simply because they tend to be well outside my budget. Today was different though, as the Chi spa Shangri-La happy hour special brought an acupressure facial into what could be considered budget range 🙂 Praew was an exceptional therapist, making me immediately at home before proceeding to the treatment room. Hands like soft steel; systematic, sublime. I made an appointment to come back the next day on the spot, budget be damned. And I think that is the ultimate compliment ❤️

Short but very enjoyable stay at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai. Great facilities, very comfortable room and terrific breakfast. As always, S-LA staff stand out and did all they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Mr Chaow the concierge was incredibly helpful arranging a rental car and suggested itinerary for us. Looking forward to the next visit!

The location of it is good and it has an amazing halal restaurant “alreem” which was good for us. All other activities were near to it, easy to find taxi and good for walking around.

Honestly the stuffs were very rude and not kind ! No personal issues really.. but i had a simple misunderstanding and the stuff( Kate ) didn’t explain well so she didn’t solve it kindly .. although I apologized but it seemed they don’t care they just want us to pay anyway!! Even though it was their mistake too ..

An excellent hotel in a great, central, and very accessible location. Our room was spacious, perfectly clean, and comfortable. What truly stands out is the staff—everyone was so polite and eager to help with everything we needed.

I had two massage treatments during our stay. Praew and her colleagues are amazing - I would definitely recommend booking a treatment with them when you stay here. The spa is wonderful.

Really enjoyed our stay here at the Shangri La. Ok didnt have the opportunity to use the lovely swimming pool, but breakfast, restaurant, gym and spa were excellent. Location is great and staff were excellent. Welcoming was warm. What really touched me was the birthday set up they did, very thoughtful and nice. Spa was great….must do.

Fabulous hotel, staff went above and beyond to help. Really thoughtful and provided excellent Gluten free food for our daughter too.

We stayed in the Shangi-La in Chiang mai, the service was incredible, and the facilities excellent. All the accommodations were made for us as vegans and the help with planning trips was incredible. The service was great, especially from James, Ink, Mimi, Nani and Channa!

We spent a wonderful four nights at the hotel in a Horizon Club Deluxe Room on the 11th floor (Club Level). We found the room to be well appointed (albeit a little dated) and comfortable. The bed was a little firm but a request for housekeeping to make it softer was all it took to make it much better. The room was incredibly quiet at night and had a wonderful bathroom. We were welcomed with a fresh plate of fruit which was a nice touch. This was replaced as we made our way through it. The room was kept spotlessly clean by our incredible housekeeper Joe who couldn’t do any more than he did to make us feel welcomed and valued. He truly has hospitality in his heart. He’s a huge asset to the hotel. The ladies in the Club also speak very highly of him. The big plus for us were the Club facilities. We were able to have breakfast there or in the main restaurant, we tried both but the exclusivity and peace of the Club won us over. Sadly we couldn’t eat there on the last morning as we had an early flight and hate to eat in the main restaurant instead. We also enjoyed afternoon tea each day in the Club and then from 5.30 – 7.30 cocktails and canapes. The canapes were in fact a delicious buffet with lots of delicious options to devour. Another great facility at the hotel was the large lagoon swimming pool which was great to swim in on a hot afternoon. We had cocktails down there one day which we found to be a little disappointing as there was hardly anything in the glass. They were at least tasty. I think the hotel needs to do more to promote the happy hour down there as we only found out by accident. The hotel is in a good location for getting out and about and if you use Grab, you can get to any place quickly and relatively cheaply. We found the location to be an asset as it was very peaceful and relaxed in the neighbourhood. The lasting impression for us were the lovely staff throughout the facility but mainly, the ladies in the Club and Joe are people we won’t forget. I hope the hotel truly values the outstanding work they do. We always felt warmly and genuinely welcomed and appreciated. We’ll miss them.

An exceptional hotel hotel facility wise but what really makes this hotel special is the staff from the check in team to the concierge team to the housekeeping and restaurant teams they make you feel welcomed, relaxed and valued, too many staff members to mention by name but they made this stay one to remember. We will be back!

Shangri-La Chiang Mai was amazing, the location - near Night Bazaar and the old city, the staff always there for anything you need. Little shoutout to Chaow, the concierge, very kind and helpful, Nannay and one colleague who always remembered my room! I have nothing to say other than positive things. Stayed at the Shang, the service was impeccable. Particularly I’d like to mention Chaow from concierge. He was very thoughtful, really paid attention to the details and our needs. We went to the elephant tour that was booked outside the hotel, just as we were about to leave he told us that we might get wet and prepared towel for us. Along the way he also gave us tips that were useful for our first stay in Chiangmai.

The property is big and at a nice location. The staff are so welcoming from checkin till we left. The kods play area with attendant the gym everything was just amazing.

The room is not cold enough to be comfortable

Although there are times when some signs of age and wear are visible, the comfort of a well-maintained hotel remains intact. The breakfast is plentiful, featuring various sections including Thai, Chinese, and Indian options (the bakery corner was particularly good). The swimming pool is very large and deep, making it perfect for relaxing. I appreciated that the staff discreetly placed fruit-infused water next to the sunbeds so as not to disturb me while I was swimming. The gym is somewhat small, but it has most of the necessary facilities, and unless it is very early in the morning, there aren't many users, allowing me to enjoy the facilities at my leisure. What I wanted to praise even more than the facilities was the kindness and professionalism of the staff. They handled most requests quickly and skillfully, always with a smile, making it a pleasure to converse with them. Since I haven't experienced every hotel in Chiang Mai, I cannot definitively say that this is the best, but I was certainly impressed during my five-night stay.

We’ve been staying at Shangri-La Chiang Mai for a considerable number of years with an enforced absence during the Covid pandemic. This was at least our 15th visit so I think it’s true to say we love staying at this superb hotel! Situated not that far from the airport ( about a 20 minute taxi ride), and set in magnificent grounds, this hotel provides everything to make a stay memorable. I’ve said previously that any hotel is only as good as its staff and the staff here are very good indeed…friendly, efficient and professional. They are more than happy to help in any way they can…security, lobby staff, reception, housekeeping, restaurant staff, concierge and all those working behind the scenes without whom, the hotel could not function. We were given an upgraded room looking out over the pool area and we were very grateful for the upgrade. The room contained everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible with a good selection of toiletries and a large very comfortable bed! Rooms are serviced twice daily to a high standard apart from one day, when our room wasn’t cleaned properly and some towels were missing. We made use of the lobby lounge and Kad Cafe ( both reviewed separately) and the S-Press shop. The lobby area is magnificent with a collection of Lanna style artifacts. We’re not pool people but the facilities are first class and a perfect place for children. Near the pool is the Spa. The grounds are well maintained. What more can we say? Shangri-La Chiang Mai will enable any visitor to make great memories. Don’t hesitate to book a room! Our thanks, once again, to Mr Lombardi and all his staff. Hopefully, we will be there to celebrate Christmas once again.

Luxury hotel with fantastic service and staff. We had 2 suites with the clubhouse membership which entailed us to afternoon tea and drinks in the evening. Each suite had Dyson air purifiers and hair dryers. The suites very very spacious. The pricing of the suites wrt amenities was perfect. Super value. We stayed for 6 nights. A special shoutout to concierge Mr Ink. He was fantastic in response before we started our trip and through the trip with his recommendations for excursions and restaurant bookings. Our spa Massagist Ms Napa was just the best. She understood our pain points and worked patiently. Just amazing! The property is beautiful and large. The pool is fantastic for kids and the food is delicious. Lots of Indian places to eat around as well. Overall a fantastic stay with great value for money

Had the pleasure of celebrating my 50th birthday in this lovely hotel with 24 of my friends. Words fail me. Their hospitality and attention to detail was impeccable. Too good. They upgraded me to their presidential suite. Made my birthday so so memorable. Were so cooperative. Any event or any stay. If in chiang mai. Shangrila should be your first and last choice. Food is also too good. I can go on and on. Location fantastic. Everything close by.

The hotel offers a peaceful retreat while still being conveniently located close to the Old City and Night Bazaar. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well maintained, providing a great place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. What stood out most was the warm hospitality of the staff. Everyone was genuinely friendly, attentive, and always ready to help with a smile. The breakfast had an excellent variety, and the facilities, especially the swimming pool and gym, were well maintained. Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay, and I would happily return on my next visit to Chiang Mai. فندق جميل كبير ومرتب الاثاث قديم نوعا ما لكنه فخم وجميل الديكورات رائعة حمام السباحة عميق وممتع خصوصا منطقة الأطفال بوفيه الفطور كبير ومنوع الاكل الحلال غير متوفر لكن البيض والاجبان و المخبوزات مثل الكرواسان الوافل بانكيك كفت ووفت يوجد ايسكريم منوع في البوفيه الموقع جيد بعيد قليلا عن السنتر لكن امام الفندق محلات وبقالات وخدمات مساج وسوق ليلي ومطاعم ..انصح به وسوف اسكن مرة اخرى اذا كررنا زيارة شانغماي الساحرة الستاف رائع والخدمة سريعة .

تمنيت ان يكون الفندق اقرب للسنتر لكن الموقع لابأس به وان يتوفر اكل حلال للنزلاء المسلمين.

Its truly the Shangri-la hotel standard. Grand lobby and nice clean rooms. The staffs are really the soul of this property, where there were efficient, when you first step info the hotel tilawah you depart the hotel. These Thai staffs are extremely hospitable, testimony of the management training, and always serve with a warm smiley face. It surely brightern up your day. There even greet you by your name, which makes you feels like home despite being miles away from home. You can always trust this brand whenever one travels away from home.

My family and I recently stayed at Shangri-La Chiang Mai to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, and the experience exceeded our expectations in every way. Before our arrival, the hotel team took the time to understand the purpose of our trip and prepared thoughtful arrangements that made our celebration feel truly special. The warmth and attention to detail shown by the staff transformed what could have been a simple hotel stay into a cherished family memory. I would especially like to thank General Manager Gabriele Lombardo for fostering such a guest-focused culture. It is clear that the spirit of hospitality starts from the top and is reflected throughout the entire hotel. A special recognition also goes to Ms. Kim at Kad Kafe. My young son was delighted when she kindly prepared fresh guava for him, and when he misplaced one of his shoes, she immediately helped us locate it with genuine care and patience. These may seem like small gestures, but for a family traveling with young children, they meant a great deal. The Duty Manager and many other colleagues also contributed to making our anniversary celebration unforgettable. Every interaction felt sincere rather than scripted, which is increasingly rare in today’s hospitality industry. Having stayed at many international hotels over the years, I can confidently say that Shangri-La Chiang Mai delivers the type of personalized service that luxury hospitality should represent. Thank you once again to Gabriele Lombardo and the entire Shangri-La Chiang Mai team. We left with wonderful memories and look forward to returning with our family in the future. Highly recommended.

I loved every bit of this place. The food was above our expectations. Being a vegetarian, it was a treat. The rooms are beautiful and huge, and the pool was amazing. Hotel staff were very professional and helpful. Loved the friendliness.

Hotel is old and tired. Rooms are outdated and worn. Housekeeping did not do a great job cleaning (floors dirty and used towels not removed)

Great place for a family vacation. Amazing service, all staff is very friendly and welcoming. The concierge team is very helpful and kind especially Mr. Ink.

We had a lovely welcome from Rody and everyone was amazing after that. Swimming pool was fantastic and fully supervised by two lifeguards at all times. We were shown kindness and welcome at every interaction. This is a very easy, hassle free and beautiful hotel full if wobderful staff. Management must be wonderful too.

The hotel was very clean, and all of the staff were friendly, kind, and attentive. A special thank you to Chaow. He always greeted me with a smile and addressed me by name whenever we met, which made me feel very welcome. His service was truly outstanding and showed genuine care for guests. My first time in Chiang Mai (and Thailand as well), and I had the opportunity spend 3 nights in Shangri-La Chiang Mai as a part of a conference that took place there. It was such a welcoming experience!

This review is way overdue but better late than never. Shangri-La Chiang Mai is exactly what thoughts come to mind just saying the name. An oasis, a place of peace, comfort and tranquility. Every employee goes out of their way to insure that you truly are a guest. Asian charm wrapped in a modern package. No detail is left to chance. From the morning buffet to high tea to taking a spa day or chilling at the pool, you decide. But enough of the physical building, its the people working there that are the true gems. Their attention to customer service, and making every guest feel special is what makes the Shangri-La so special. The hotel is conveniently located within a 5 minute walk to the night market and 30 minutes to old town.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Shangri-La in Chiang Mai for almost a week, during a business event. My room was spacious and tasteful decorated. The staff was very friendly, the bar & restaurant had a great selection of food for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is slightly outside of the old town. With a Tuktuk/car it takes about 10' to reach the center with its wide selection of restaurants, shops, bars, massage salons, etc. Overall, I highly enjoyed my stay and want to thanks the team again for the great hospitality.

The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. Rooms were neat and clean and amenities were adequate. Chaow provided good service too.

I do love this hotel in Chiang May. The staff, the hotel service, facility are the best thing ever in my life. The most lovable at my 316 room is the garden behind my room, I can walk, sleep under the green tree, so amazing, relaxing and everythings are wonderful. Regards, TANS Indonesia

I would like to express how satisfied I was with my recent stay at Shangri-La Chiang Mai. The service, hospitality, and overall experience were truly wonderful from check in to check out experience. ( I can’t recall the name of the staff member who checked me in, she was extremely helpful and made a great first impression with her warm and professional service) I truly loved my room, and I would like to especially thank to Khun Songkran from the Housekeeping team for the amazing decoration he prepared for my honeymoon and birthday trip. It made this stay extra special and memorable. Upon my check-out, the lobby was quite crowded, but I was impressed when Khun Preawa came over to personally assist me with the check-out process. Her support and professionalism were truly appreciated👍🏼

Our recent 6 nights at the Shangri La in Chiang Mai was simply outstanding.We stayed in the Horizon Club rooms and it was a 10 out of 10 experience. The Hotel offers the biggest swimming pool in Chiang Mai,Health club,cocktail lounge,Spa,tennis court,restaurants and lots more. The staff is very well trained and always very accomodating in every situation.Having spent the last 35 years in hospitality I was completely satisfied. The Hotel is very well mantained and clean. We look forward to coming back.Thankyou
