There was a good choice of continental breakfast - we didn’t have anything cooked
We thought the breakfast charge could have been included in the price of the room
Great location. Views amazing from rooms.
Beds uncomfortable. Room very expensive considering no breakfast included. Parking for hotel very limited and hard to find a space on the road.
Very good and helpful the position is fabulous
Close to the town with lovely views out to sea.
Parking spaces were very limited.
Great location, beautiful views, good facilties, good food, decent breakfast.
Initial incorrect room issued with no sea view, they then changed it upon request and upgraded it too, with no extra charge. No masseuse available initially at spa, then made available upon request for the following morning. No dedicated beach area for hotel or sunbeds. Quite expensive for one night.
Helpful staff. Good location. Lovely view from the restaurant and the food is good.
Although nicely refurbished my room had an issue that needed repair. This was quickly resolved by changing rooms, which was appreciated.
The views and the staff. Lovely breakfast served by wonderful staff.
My single room - bathroom was lovely but the room needs some attention. The net curtain.
Very friendly staff food very good fantastic position
Food positioning
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The views of Swanage Bay from the terrace and my room were stunning. The room was comfortable and quiet. I loved the breakfast. The spa is quite small but it was an added bonus to have the pool as an option to swim in (although we mainly swam in the sea). We ate out so I cannot comment on the evening meals. The car park is quite small but we managed to find a space.
They were able to accommodate me short notice, unusual as often booked.
Everything
Lovely old hotel on the cliffs, great views and friendly staff.
All good.
Everything.Had a spotless luxury room with balcony and stunning sea views.Staff were brilliant and very helpful as I have mobility issues. Ideal that they have a lift. Plunge pool was great for my physiotherapy and the food was excellent- fresh, good quality, and straightforward/unfussy menu at a very reasonable price and not being forced to pay for 2 courses if not needed. The garden overlooks the beach and is a lovely suntrap for a drink.A great location for a quiet, relaxing, luxury adult break.
Absolutely nothing to dislike here, but would suggest upgrading to replace plunge pool/jacuzzi area with a bigger swimming pool instead and more accessible changing and toilet facilities (too many steps).
The location is truly amazing- lovely garden to sit and relax overlooking the sea! Lucky to get parked in front of hotel!
Ice cream as a dessert after eating out in town was expensive! Took some time to check in! Reception staff very friendly!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is stylish and well decorated. Lovely breakfasts.
I felt that the dining room chairs needed replacing, rather shabby.
The position is amazing,
Our booked rooms were changed one day before our stay. We had booked a balcony room and were moved to a standard room which had very narrow opening windows, no tea or coffee and odd furniture. We asked to be next door to each other if possible and were actually on different floors. Our room was so hot that we couldn’t sleep and this wasn’t in the heatwave. The temperatures were average for the time of year. The cost of the room is £250+ per night without breakfast and we expected more. This was our 4 th stay and we have loved our previous ones so we are really disappointed. We were offered breakfast as a compensation which was appreciated but didn’t make our room suitable or value for money.
Beautiful hotel with excellent view of swanage and the sea. Great breakfast and welcoming staff.
No air con
Staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Location was stunning 🤩 Balcony is a must! S
Loved the property, mini fridge would have been appreciated.
Good location to access town and beach
For £270 per night I was expecting more such as bottles of water in the room and toiletries big enough for two people. We stayed for 4 nights and did not find a space in the tiny car park at any time during our stay. Parking at the nearby car park as advised by reception means returning to the car park by 8 am to buy a ticket for the day. Much easier to park on the road by the car park. Also check in was extremely slow despite there only being one couple in front of us. Is it really necessary to give guests a demo of how to swipe In using a swipe card and to gather food allergies at check in? Too much information slows check in down.
View was great
parking could be better
Beliggenhed havet og haven
Dårlig og meget fed morgenmad
Easy access to beach. Friendly, helpful staff
Fan in room would have been nice! Limited headroom in our bedroom not ideal for 6 ft plus man. Parking very limited.
Beautiful view from the restaurant. The room was nicely fitted out with nice linen and towels. Very comfortable stay.
Nothing to report all good.
Great location, amazing views from the sea view bedrooms, dining room, bar and gardens. Steep steps down to beautiful sandy beach. Helpful staff who tried their best.
My mattress was a bit old and lumpy.
Lovely hotel with fantastic views. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food excellent.
Nothing, all good
Great position. Best view.
We enjoyed having the pool and breakfast was good
Some of the decor could be improved e.g in dining room the chairs were very worn and perhaps some alternative options for breakfast
The location is stunning and very convenient for the beach. Staff are friendly and helpful.
The bed was very uncomfortable I could feel the springs in the mattress. The breakfast choices for hot food were limited.
Location and staff were very attentive
No bottled or other drinkable water in our doom and chairs in the breakfast area were scruffy and weathered
Very comfy and a nice view of the grounds and beach. Meals were lovely and breakfast was excellent
The view was beautiful, good location short walk to the town. Staff were very friendly.
Nothing much to dislike
Lovely comfortable room, although one of the chairs had a rip in it. Nice bathroom. Amazing View. Loved the private beach and the Cabin. We were blessed with good weather so made the most of the beach.
We would have eaten at the hotel if only they had a Vegan menu, there were no vegan options on the menu either. We asked if we could have food in the garden one evening when the restaurant was full ( although there were tables free!! ), there was hummus and flatbread on starters menu, thought it would be OK for a vegan, but we were told they did not serve food in the garden in the evenings!! Drinks had to be ordered by a code on the tables. All this is unacceptable for a Grand Hotel! The pool and jacuzzi were clean but the the ceiling looked like it was going to collapse, it was falling down, the decor was very scruffy in the pool area. I booked a massage and had it confirmed only to find they couldn't do it when I arrived !! Not good enough.
Up in the gods , a bit annoying after you paid
We spent 5 nights at the Grand, our room had a magnificent views it was well appointed and clean although they had no information about the hotel, its facilities or the surrounding attractions in the rooms. However our stay was marred by little things, firstly the parking which is a nightmare as there is no real space. If you are use to a daily paper well forget it they have no paper delivery's! There is no room service at all not even a sandwich. On the subject of food, breakfast which is really a non event a toaster that cremates if you attempt to get colour on you toast. The table staff try to do there cheerful best but there is obviously a problem with kitchen staff or the lack of. We now get to the price of meals which are high and not value for money which we found disappointing, regarding bar drinks, we were thirsty and wanted a large coke which was £6!!!! It was not even in a can or bottle. Would we stay again with its fantastic views NO!!!!
Locatie is erg mooi
Prijs /kwaliteitverhouding. Budget kamers terwijl je superiour kamer boekt . Water niet drinkbaar en 5 pond vragen voor een fles water. Oud en klein zwembad . Parkeren is heel lastig
Polite staff, great location, clean rooms, and a generally wonderful hotel.
No baked beans one day at breakfast, but that's a pretty trivial point. Apart from that, excellent service.
Beautiful views and classy
Lack of air conditioning in room
Lovely location and views
No air conditioning though they did provide fan and window opened wide
Location good quite a walk into Swanage. Nice garden overlooking the sea Short distance down steps to beach.
Some areas needed smartening up.
I picked the Grand because of its magnificent position on the cliff top overlooking Swanage Bay and the fact that I could book a single room overlooking the sea at a reasonable price The room was compact and had limited headroom being on the top floor, however, it had a very comfortable 4 foot bed with 4 delicious pillows and a terrific rainfall shower plus an additional handheld shower too. Thoughtfully, a fan had been placed in the room because of the heat wave: which was very welcome. There’s a large lawn in front of the hotel with tables and sun loungers, together with the access down to the beach. All the communal areas in the hotel have magnificent sea views The breakfast had lots of choice and freshly cooked hot items to order. More than anything, the staff in the hotel are absolutely charming and actually seemed to enjoy working there😊 Looking forward to my return visit later in the summer🙋♀️
The view and location are absolutely amazing and this is what really makes the hotel.
I feel as though it functions more like a B & B rather than a hotel. Room was small & cramped, we were actually asked if we wanted our room cleaned every day, which I found bizzare - surely everyone wants a clean room everyday. You cannot really order food to the room like normal hotels, there is a gym advertised which in terms of facilities is great but opening hours start really late. I like to get my workout done 7 in the morning and then start my day - I didn't want to wait around until 9am and 10am on opening for gym on weekends. No AC, which in this weather is tough to cope with. A little dated in decor but as soon as you walk into the garden and see the beach all is forgotten. Needs to be bought up to date a little to be a real competitor.
The view and quietness, access to the beach.
Shower Water pressure could be better.
Location, Staff, Garden, Gym, The fan in the room was a very appreciated bonus.
Parking
The bar and restaurant staff were excellent. Very attentive and pleasant.the room was very good size and views were great, the hotel was clean and had a lift . The food we had was excellent
The reception staff were very rude on arrival and due to the fact we had booked through booking .com we wasn’t welcome and was quite happy to point out breakfast wasn’t included. We were told on arrival that restaurant booking for that day was limited so we booked there and then. When we tried to book for other evenings they were fully booked. Over the stay we noted that the restaurant had tables free on all evenings so don’t know why we couldn’t book. There is no air conditioning in the rooms they just supply a fan in this very hot weather.
Location was fantastic
A number of things could be improved.
Pleasant room with lovely view, excellent comfy bed, good bedding, good shower. So relieved to have a fan on a hot night!
Breakfast rather disappointing - my husband ordered an omelette but it failed to appear. However we were compensated for this when we checked out. There seemed to be a shortage of staff. Lovely to meet and talk with a delightful member of staff in the bar, whose name we can't remember. Staff very friendly.
I was impressed by the calm and beautiful beach view from my room, as well as the sparkling ocean visible from the restaurant. The scenery was truly stunning. I would definitely love to stay here again if I have the opportunity.
Nothing in particular.
Beautiful views, staff lovely hotel was nice.
Parking facilities could be better for disabled people. The live band was extremely loud.
The staff were lovely. They were friendly, chatty and helpful when it came to the local area.
The lack of car parking spaces was a real issue. The hotel had warned there were only a few spaces. The situation is exacerbated by people parking on the surrounding roads to visit the beach. We were expecting a larger spa area. The gym equipment was acceptable but the pool was very small and there wasn’t a steam room. The hot tub and sauna were lovely though.
Pleasant enough hotel in excellent location
For >£200 per night (room only) we expected rather more. We stayed 2 nights but the room was not visited in the middle day so bed not made and tea and milk not topped up. I don't expect to be told either that the water from the bathroom taps is OK to drink if we boil it(!). I accept it is an old (well Victorian) building and the pressure from the tap seemed sufficiently high so maybe they were playing safe but, again, for the price why not have bottled water in the room rather than having to take up a jug from the bar? The swimming pool is very small and with tiny shower cubicles in the male changing room with the unpleasant prospect of having to pass very closely to two urinals between the shower and the changing area. When we checked out and paid for drinks and meals we weren't asked whether we had enjoyed our stay, just thank you for your payment.
This is a fantastic place, this is probably the best Grand hotel. I think it’s been updated recently as well. The views from the hotel are outstanding. The food is amazing the breakfast is really good. The bed was comfortable. The room and facilities were perfect. The staffare friendly. The lounge area is a lovely place to sit and relax, the conservatory is very nice. The breakfast is extremely good and the diningroom has lovely views. Garden area and private beach you couldn’t really ask for much more. The pool is lovely well looked after hotel is clean everywhere It is quite expensive, but it’s very much worth it.
The location, the exceptional staff, the evening meal.
My single room was rather small.
Loved the location and service. Staff were wonderful, very helpful and supportive. Tidy and well serviced rooms. Views, proximity to a private beach, town and South West Coast Path. Breakfasts were good, nice bar and lounge area.
We paid for a 'Superior Double' Room which was small and in that context, poor value and below expectations. We also paid for e 'Deluxe Double (Twin)' room, which was even smaller, also not particularly good value for its size. Facilities were consistent with a 3 Star Hotel but small things like a kettle that boiled under the TV and a coffee machine with a detachable water tank, right next to 13A electrical sockets, did not impress. The en-suite shower room became dripping with condensation, after each use. The floor becoming dangerous and slippery, when wet. The extractor fan just seemed to make nose and do very little extracting. The shower drain blocked after first use. This was however resolved in an afternoon, by the hotel. The noises from the adjacent room toilet, sink and shower, were loud and extremely intrusive. Having to get drinking water in jugs, from the bar was a bit of pain. Guests are advised not to drink the tap water. Car parking is limited.
It’s a beautiful hotel in an absolutely beautiful spot. The views, the garden area, the beach and beach cafe were brilliant and staff were efficient and friendly. Would have liked a way to lock the room door from the inside. We had a sea view room and would have loved a little fridge in it, especially as it was a heatwave. It was all really clean.
Our second stay at The Grand Hotel I. Swanage. Fantastic location with great views and lovely walk along the seafront into Swanage. All of the staff are friendly and welcoming.
Great views, and spot on beach
Great staff, fabulous location
I couldn't stay longer, lol
Great 4 day stay. Love the hotel and its amazing view. Lovely staff, very welcoming. Excellent breakfast too. We will be back again next year.
The room was a little bit outdated.
The staff were very friendly and helpful the atmosphere was nice and it was the most comfiest bed I've slept in for years
Great sea view, but for the price of the room, it was tiny
bed boinged every roll, no room service, room not made up after first night, not tea, towles or water refreshed
Lovely hotel. Good location to explore Swanage and the Dorset area. Rooms spacious with a good walk in shower. We had a sea view, which was wonderful. Staff friendly enough but there were chef staffing issues on the days we were there. However, there are other places in Swanage to eat but would recommend booking a table beforehand. Breakfast was okay.
The view from the Grand is in fact grand but the hotel itself has seen better days. I cannot fault the staff who were super helpful, polite and really friendly. The hotel need a refurbishment though, especially at the price I had to pay, I would have expected a lot more. We also had a pretty poor dinner with the food being really average (over done steak, weird chips) but that is to be expected in Swanage, which needs an overhaul in the whole of it's hospitality sector to bring it up to scratch. So in general this is not a negative review but don't expect too much from the Grand itself and be happy with the very welcoming staff.
Loved the sea view and the room
Waited an hour for breakfast. Appeared to be an ordering issue.
Disappointing stay. Very limited parking and mainly signposted for ‘small cars’! We were not aware that there was no chef for evening meals - only breakfast. On the Monday we had to purchase sandwiches during the day to have as our evening meal. There was limited choice of whisky and no dry ginger available also no draught beer to have a shandy. The message in the bedroom advised us to ask for a jug of water at the bar for drinking water, explanation given was because the water came from a storage tank! Perhaps a supply of bottled water could have been provided to avoid this. The view from our bedroom was superb and the staff were friendly and as helpful as they could be under the circumstances.
L location
Le personnel n’était pas trop souriant
Lovely views

Die Lage direkt am wunderschönen Küstenabschnitt.
Outstanding view and convenient location to walk into town- pleasant ambience and historic feel. Staff were attentive and polite.
Paid top price for balcony with sea view- which was obscured by scaffolding. No alternatives available. Toaster screeched through breakfast Otherwise fine.
Great
Great
The view was amazing
Only one lift and very small
Had a lovely stay here last December, so have tried to book again, but unfortunately they don't answer the phone or reply to email bookings, which makes it very difficult to make a booking. The phone system is very poor, as it goes to a full mailbox & then cuts you off. Such a shame, they must be loosing loads of custom.
Had a wonderful day out in Swanage on Sunday 24 May, and my friend and I were treated with outstanding courtesy and excellent customer service at The beautiful Grand Hotel. We were served with a superb, delightfully presented fish and chips lunch sat outside in their wonderful grounds.... despite us arriving just five minutes before their kitchen closed! Brad waited on us with every consideration and the manageress (So sorry I didn't get her name) ensured we were lovingly taken care of - nothing was too much trouble. This is how it's done!
The sea view was awsome, my birthday lady was smiling all day!! Short walk to beach for a cold morning swim and to the town in the evening.
Parking, although I appreciate the challenge in that area.
A really nice hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast and dinner was really nice and the facilties were great including the pool and jacuzzi. The spa was lovely and the treatments on offer were great. There were lovely sea views from the restaurant and it was less then a 5 minute walk to the beach. The town was only 15 mins away and had lots of nice shops and cafes.
Nothing
Clean

Just want to say a massive thank you to Lindsay, Christine, Brad and the rest of the team at the Grand. You all went above and beyond to make it such a special weekend to celebrate Jamie and Chris’s wedding. Perfect venue, perfect weather, what more could you ask for. Thank you all
What a fantastic place to stay just attended a wedding there so we had the whole hotel , the staff are very good and hard working and always raise a smile , great views and location , very clean and tidy great food and service , thanks too all involved there 👍🏼
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very clean and comfortable. Food was very good, just a small whinge, why half a mushroom and half a tomato at breakfast?
Very happy and friendly team of staff. Location was good, beautiful views
In one of the 2 rooms the door and window rattled in the wind all night and the widow blew open. Noisy neighbours
We had a lovely time, staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean, fresh and comfortable. Wonderful views from Dining rooms. Facilities good although they weren’t able to offer an evening meal on one evening due to problems in the kitchen. We were informed of this before arrival. There were some issues with one of the rooms, a very rattly window frame and door. The window blew open during the night. Rowdy neighbours. Would still recommend it though, and would go back again.
Great location, friendly staff, spa facilities a nice extra.
More info in rooms about meal times and offerings would be useful, rather than having to decide on check-in while looking at a printout… I didn’t find the bed or pillows very comfortable but appreciate everyone prefers different things!
We both had a great time. Everything about the hotel, location and facilities was excellent. What a view whilst having dinner each evening over looking the bay across Swanage. The staff were always friendly and so helpful. THANK YOU
Staff were very friendly - everywhere. Everywhere seemed fresh and modern as though it has been recently refreshed. Facilities at the hotel were good - the spa area is very nice and bar and restaurants - also very nice. Location was great - beautiful views of the sea. Definitely a place I would come back to.
Food was a bit disappointing - it was ok but not great. At breakfast it was clear that the bacon and sausage had been pre-cooked because it was hard. We had one evening meal there and my husband's steak was not cooked as requested - it was well done. Also they had run out of peppercorn sauce and had no alternative. I had the mushroom risotto which was a bit stodgy. The only other thing that guests need to be aware of is that the parking spaces are very narrow.
Everything, from meeting the receptionist, to a fantastic shower, great food, good genuine staff, and wonderful location.
Nothing
Everything was wonderful, welcoming helpful staff, good room, excellent shower, great location
Staff are lovely and there's a charm to the place that I hope never changes.
Position
No evening restaurant on couple of nights Due to a party of walkers. We were told the 2 days before arrival - no time to make alternative arrangements. No price price reduction or incentive.
Knew the hotel, location and views from a stay some 30 years ago, when we enjoyed the Grand but thought it a bit faded. Not so now - really loved it and the care that has been put in to make a lovely place to stay. Room was great and very comfortable with an excellent and bathroom. Loved the breakfasts, but also had a celebratory for some friends' 35th anniversary, where you catered lovely food for 30 people excellently. Great quality food served for 30 at a time is an art, congratulations. So, yes, really enjoyed my stay. The town is close and really makes the stay worthwhile, as does the coastal walks and beaches. No need to drive out, just experience the great location on the doorstep.
We ate here last night,my wife had tiger prawn starter with chips as a side order £15. I had chicken chasseur £19. She had 4 small prawns and 2 pieces of thinly sliced baguette deep fried for £11.This is a complete rip off. The chicken meal was bland and was obviously microwaved. Not a great experience for a once Grand Hotel. Also arrangements should be made so that you can tip the waiters using a card.
Lovely staff
food good
Location
Breakfast great
Bed mattress uncomfortable and pillows
Sea view was great , staff were friendly , room was cosy
Terrible service at meal times , waited an hour for dinner to be served with the dining room only half full. Room wasn’t cleaned or serviced in the 3 nights we stayed there, even after asking them to. Had to keep asking for tea, coffee and milk at reception as it wasn’t replenished in the room
Lovely view Bed gave me some back ache as not fully supportive Breakfast excellent Dinner good but no variation of menu Staff all excellent
Parking limited and couldn’t always get space at hotel. Spaces too narrow. Couldn’t exit car.
My husband and I booked a room with a balcony for three nights at the Grand hotel in Swanage. The room had a queen size bed which was extremely uncomfortable, with 4 very thin pillows. We had a very small tv on which we could only get three channels, and in the bathroom the large shower head trickled from only a few holes. Dinner was mediocre and the bar only offered a choice of two white wines. At breakfast in the morning we ordered a full English. The ingredients were of poor quality, not very well cooked and served on cold plates. We decided to visit the pool and leisure centre, which has seen better days and was very cold so we didn't use it. Car parking is very limited so no guarantee that if you go out you'll be able to park on your return. That is if you could park there on your arrival in the first place. We really didn't fancy two more days so checked out. Shame as it was meant to be a birthday treat for me. we were charged for the three nights although we'd only had one. We weren't even asked why.
The Grand Hotel has many memories for me. But I had never stayed there before because I live locally. It was all I expected and more.Very
