Nothing not to like. Breakfast seemed to be a little disorganised, had to wait longer than anyone else for veggie breakfast, no idea why and ordering the night before system wasn't as good as it could have been ( order got lost), but dealt with quickly when staff made aware. Bedroom good size, but very small shower and toilet room, washbasin in bedroom.

Evening meal, drinks, staff were excellent and allowed us to park motorcycle in safe area.

Could do with air conditioning in rooms, it was very hot when we stayed, but it was during the heatwave.

Friendly and honest staff. The location of The Royal Lodge was wonderful, but perhaps if we were to be in the area again, we would come out of season. Our visit would not have been possible if we hadn’t been able to bring our dogs and for that reason we were very grateful..

We didn’t know that we have to pay a surcharge for breakfast although when booking it showed as being included. The room was shabby, the electrical furnishings were cheap and basic and the shower did not function. We appreciate we were going through a heatwave but the room was unbearably hot although we were provided with fans. We were surprised that we would had to to pay for the car park but appreciated that the Royal Lodge had a designated area as Symonds Yat East was packed with tourists

A good selection of food for breakfast and dinner considering having to use temporary kitchen facilities in very hot weather .The chefs did an amazeing job

Location fab as were the staff. Very clean and comfortable. Great chef. The dining room was a nice room as were the relaxation areas and games room. Friendly welcoming front of house upon my late arrival after 6.5 hours driving.

Room 7- parts if the room were a bit dated and the room smelled of damp dog?! I’ve had loads of dogs and not anti dog but maybe the doggy rooms should be kept separate for dog owners but I guess not very commercially viable. That said the room was VERY clean overall!

We had an absolutely amazing stay celebrating my husband’s 50th birthday. The lodge staff went above and beyond, with a great range of birthday surprises I could pay for, they even headed into town to pick up balloons as a lovely surprise for him. We also had a table booked in the restaurant that evening, and the food was absolutely fantastic. The whole experience made his birthday really special, and we couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The view from the superior king room is amazing

Breakfast was great.

Dinner and drink prices too high and having to pay an extra £8 for parking was a rip off. Apart from the river and forest walks, there was nothing to do for anyone like ourselves who were only looking for an en route overnight stay.

De locatie is fantastisch. Het diner is ook echt top. Super vriendelijk en vooral behulpzaam personeel.

Tegenvallen is niet het juiste woord. Het is jammer dat ze 2 type ontbijt hanteren; met of zonder warme dingen.

Au coeur de la nature au bord de la rivière... magnifique. Excellent hotel avec une cuisine raffinée et un personnel très accueillant ! Parking réservé (indispensable)

Avec l'inconvénient qu'il y a beaucoup de monde. C'était la canicule, température au dessus de 30°C. Sous la toiture, la chambre était assez chaude la nuit. Deux ventilateurs mis à disposition tentaient de rafraichir...

There was nothing I didn't like about this place..the staf are eficient and friendly. This was our second visit this year.

I cant think of anything that would have made our stay better.

A very warm welcome, staff excellent and some recognised us from visit 2 years ago. Very relaxed feeling which was perfect for a large family gathering. They are using a temporary kitchen due to a rock fall but this hasn’t changed the standard of food available. Staff are clearly working hard to adapt to the situation and make meal times flow smoothly.

Fairly narrow and slightly steep staircases but staff were on hand to assist with luggage.

Really friendly staff were very helpful. Bedroom was a good size with plenty of storage space. Beds were both comfortable.

We visited at the start of a heatwave and our top floor room was unbelievably hot. Windows were closed but blinds & curtains neither blackout, nor closed. Shower room very small, and very weak shower.

We had a 1 night stay here last weekend in a standard king room. Staff on arrival and throughout stay were super friendly and helpful. We had a clean and comfortable room with outstanding views 😁 really cannot fault anything about our stay other than it wasn't long enough! We will definitely be coming back not just for one night but will be booking a 2 night stay very soon 😀😀

We stayed on a very hot day and in a top floor room. The team provided fans but we sweltered all night.

Perfect location right on the riverside at Symonds Yat. Good room. Good breakfast. We didn’t have much time there - we would have liked more - but it was a perfect stop off en route to North Wales.

The location was perfect for canoeing and a good circular walk . Recommend for a good relaxing mini break . Food was very good too .

Liked everything about the trip.

Staff were great. Very helpful. And the location is stunning. The 3 of us met up for a bit of a walking social. We all had the breakfast which was excellent and set us up for a couple of long walks..

Only slight issue was we were hot at night. We were in a room at the back of the hotel. Think it retains the heat as it's right up against the valley.. Would request Riverside room next time.. Didn't spoil our stay at all though . 👍

Everything was perfect. The family room was clean, spacious, and every single mattress was comfortable. Facilities are brilliant. Staff are fantastic. Location is scenic. Loved every minute. Sitting with views of the river for dinner watching blue tits in the nesting box was better than we could have imagined.

Great location. Next to a river with a wonderful hike next to an untamed part of the river, with fantastic bird life. The room was clean and comfortable. It's also fairly unusual to find a room set up for a solo traveller, so I liked that. It was also pretty reasonable.

The food seemed a little expensive.

The setting near the river is beautiful, the breakfast was excellent. We liked the Separate parking area for hotel guests.

Unfortunately we could not get a taxi service from Monmouth back to the hotel, about a 20 minute drive!

Our room no 1 was right above the bar and we could hear chatter and music and bottles being stored until after 11 which kept us awake.A shame because we had stayed here before and our room was ok.

The bathroom was up a step, very small and a bit tired and the sink was in the bedroom.

Fantastic location next to the river with lovely riverside and woodland walks straight out the front door. The staff were wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful. The room was very good (Suite with Balcony) with a large comfortable bed and views over the river, hills and woodland beyond. The meals and breakfast were very tasty and reasonably priced. A nice dining room, well furnished with lovely views.

Parts of the hotel generally could do with updating, as some of it looked a little tired and old fashioned. Car parking was extra although not that expensive (£8.00 per day). The music broadcast outside during the day although not loud was unnecessary and spoilt the quiet atmosphere of the location and hotel.

None of these would stop be coming again - minor points: No mobile signal It's true that the rooms are a bit dated Some building repairs on-going Food is pricey but in keeping with the area generally. Bedroom near stairs can be noisy. No rooms on ground floor so trickier for disabled people, there is no lift.

Reception staff were very friendly, restaurant staff need work all of them wearing dirty scruffy trainers and the lady wasn't friendly we only asked for some more vinegar and mayonnaise as the ones she gave us were empty. She was blunt and kept huffing and puffing. Rooms were very dated and no pressure in the shower just a trickle of water. I think an iron in every room would be great and thinner duvets they were so heavy and warm. The location was perfect although there was scaffolding outside our window which is fine as I know at times work may be needed to be carried out.

Some staff members weren't friendly and looked scruffy, rooms were very dated and facilities could do with an upgrade. Front of house staff were lovely and very friendly

The location was stunning with plenty to do within walking distance, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and very good quality, and it was reasonably priced!

Location, room, food, staff, facilities - everything the hotel provided was amazing, thank you Especially as the staff were so kind and understanding as we had our 17 month old with us. We will be staying again, and are considering looking at the venue to host our wedding too.

We unfortunately had workmen on the roof above us during the daytime, which wasn’t ideal with a baby as he needed to nap during the day. But we do understand work has to be done and this was a weekday stay in April so not a massive issue for us, plus other than that everything was absolutely amazing.

Lovely location! Excellent beer garden. Friendly staff. Great food too. Dog friendly with beautiful river walks on your doorstep.
