Room was comfortable, staff were friendly
It didn’t meet my expectations of 4 stars. Pictures of food online were not representative of food available.
Excellent rooms at good prices, brilliant location, and good breakfast
Good place nice rooms
Restaurant is not great. And staff unexperienced. Waiting so long for anything. Messed up with steak even I have said what steak. Instead of well done I get medium rare from one side and raw from the other. Staff even did not offer compensation... Dissaponting.
Well located for, breakfast and evening meals were excellent as always.
Loved how modern clean and comfortable the hotel is. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Fantastic location next to the theme park for families. Breakfast selection and quality is excellent. Really nice to walk round the lake, but beware of the geese they can be a little angry. The burger in the theme restaurant next door was fabulous and loved the help yourself to salad and dips. Great ice cream bar for desserts. I also loved reliving my youth on the 2p machines. Overall had a great two night stay would definately stay again. A little Oasis of holiday relaxation set so close to motorway network.
My husband didn't like that although there was a TV in the bar it was not on. The one in the bar next door was on but it was too loud inside to watch the football. He didn't want to watch it in the room as he likes the atmosphere with other people. I say this was not an issue. The bar was very quiet after 8pm so we went in the arcade which I loved 😍
Very convenient for our trip into Glasgow!
Nothing
Lovely room and restaurant
Nothing
Very friendly staff clean and lovely ambiance
Clean comfortable
The breakfast was ok but cold
I was quite happy with the place but it always be better
Location in Strathclyde Park enabled quick acres to green space for short walks. Not busy, calm and unrushed. Comfy large twin beds and spacious room.
The fabric of the common space in the dining area was looking a bit tired.
The location and had a place to eat which was OK food
Needed updating, a bit tired
Spacious dining area Great food Situated across from Strathclyde Park and close to the motorway Staff and service is second to none
Couldn’t fault it
Nice big rooms
Shower only had one temperature - hot and could not have a bath
They accomodated me by letting me change my dates to the next week
Nothing
Location Staff welcoming and friendly Super breakfast
Excellent large rooms, good strong twin head walk in shower. Not sure about the 8 ft mirror behind the bed, had visions of James Bond style cameras behind it. Knew I should have brought the wife... Breakfast was buffet style, as much as you could eat/drink and constantly refreshed... Everything you could think of, except perhaps grapefruit and haggis. Perhaps they are served on different days, but all the food was excellent... Great surroundings, attempted a lap around the lake after breakfast but too big to finish before checkout time. Will make time next time...
Just a little too distant from Glasgow centre, more than £50 in taxis... Will drive n not drink next time...
Breakfast was excellent and the chef cooked my poached eggs to perfection! Great location and great rooms
Good location, clean and tidy, good staff.
Advertised as dog friendly, but it’s not really. Had to eat outside in the cold … not nice. We could have ate in the lobby!
Lovely staff delicious breakfast
Helpful friendly staff and delicious breakfast the room was clean and comfortable
Everything was good
Breakfast fresh and tasty. Chef made me porridge to order. Lovely coffee. Nice relaxed atmosphere
Staff could have been friendlier. They hardly spoke to us the whole time. No smiles. Usually in past staff have been chatty and friendly. Bit surly this time. Different staff. Room carpet could do with a shampoo.
Excellent for moves to the south. The staff were soooo very friendly and helpful, you really couldn’t fault them.
The hotel moved our room when the windows wouldn’t open, but saying that we still thought it was very warm
Stayed for 4 nights with Shearings. Beautiful location. Comfortable rooms with nice bathroom , tea/ coffee and very quiet. What makes this hotel special are the staff. So welcoming and friendly. I had an unfortunate accident and the staff were amazing 🥰 I would abolutely stay here again.
I read the reviews before came away and was ready for the worst place ever. These reviews couldn't be further from the truth. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was exceptional. The hotel itself is in a park with beautiful views and walks. The room was clean, yes a fridge would be great but not many hotels in the UK have them. You e got loads of mirrors and plugs near them for doing your hair. Hairdryer, iron and ironing board. I would definitely stay there again. Stayed 4 nights on a shearing coach tour.
breakfast - very impression with it
nothing
Position
Poor reception entrance ,never a 4star hotel ,rooms were dated ,breakfast was good but that’s about all I can say ,poor Hotel
The staff were lovely however we were on the ground floor and there was a lot of noise from 6am onwards so didn't have the best experience.
Noise from people moving around from 6am. Think we were unlucky with the room as I have stayed before and it was peaceful.
Disappointed with the Alona Hotel. Arrived on a Friday afternoon after a long journey for a one night stop over on our way north. Allocated a room on the ground floor, which was very tired and dated. We had dinner in the restaurant which was ok but the place was totally deserted. We were awoken at 5.15 am by a delivery van right outside our window leaving its engine running for over 20 minutes & banging doors. Breakfast was canteen style. Overall not what was expected and would not stay again.
Close to what we needed, staff were lovely
Room was very hot, stayed a few times and always been the case yet they don't supply fans. Didn't get a good sleep because of the heat. Breakfast was ok. We were there early and there was already no pastries and they didn't refill. Food was very greasy We also had to move rooms due to hot water not working but it was done quick and efficiently so not really a complaint
I actually cant say anything was good about the property
Its tired and dated, rooms smell slightly as you walk in, they are old fashioned now, carpets are dirty Breakfast was absolutely awful The noise of people in the corridors is super loud For £400 for 3 nights i would say dont book at all here
Location
It was fair for the price
Had a lovely time with my young grandson overnight on Friday. Room was lovely shame no fridge or air con but we managed. The highlight though are def the staff. Aidan played 2 games of chess with Dylan and said how impressed he was with how he played for a nine year old. Wee guy loved the compliments. Juan the waiter at breakfast was just so lovely with him too and spent ages chatting to us both. Honestly they made his night and Juan has now challenged him to a game. Dylan can't wait to go back lol 😆 they made a wee boy really happy. We spent the following day at the theme park then family meal on Saturday night at yakatori. Made my birthday special especially since it was Dylans idea for a sleepover and spending sime quality tume with his nana x Great pressie
Breakfast was lovely. Location was spot on.
Rooms are in desperate need of TLC. Tv so outdated its unbelievable. Bed mattress very very soft. Pillows really uncomfortable. Light carpets covered in stains/marks. Side panel of bed frame missing. Drawer missing exposing drawer runners. Fellow guests smoking weed causing an awful smell in corridor.
The stay was excellent. The hotel was spotless throughout form the rooms to the public areas. The staff, from the receptionist, through the wait staff, cooks and cleaners were exceptional and very friendly. The setting in Strathclyde Country Park is beautiful, and the entrance to M&Ds Themepark is under a minute away.
Friendly staff
The speed bumps on the country park access road
GOOD FOOD, GOOD ROOM
THERE IS A PARTICULAR RECEPTIONIST WHO, WHEN WE ARRIVED ON 26TH, COULD NOT BE ASKED. ATTITUDE WAS POOR. THE MANAGER WAS CALLED AS OUR BOOKING COULD NOT BE FOUND. AND SAID THEY WERE BUSY. THEY SENT US TO HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS INSTEAD. BOOKING.COM DID NOT SEND OUR BOOKING APPARENTLY
The hotel is lovely and set in a great location with nice views. The bar was well stocked, food reasonably priced and a good menu. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was comfortable. Above all the staff were great. All very friendly and helpful.
Nothing to dislike
Handy to the motorways, yet quiet, restful and located on an enormous peaceful country park. Friendly too. Nice big rooms.
Breakfast was nice. Full selection to choose from. Staff are nice and its a good location for me to visit my family
Staff were excellent, informative and always willing to help
Our room was quite dated, probably because we had a dog (dog friendly room). Options for eating with a pet were limited (if weather inclement); your room or the couch in the foyer.
Prima hotel voor onze tussenstop. Eten was iets minder maar ontbijt prima.
Staff were lovely
Dinner was ok 1st night Staff were great
No fridge or water in the room. No mirror by the hairdryer Lunch on Sunday my aunt and cousins meal was ok - but the chips were cold. I opted for the roast dinner Over cooked pork, undercooked and cold vegetables- only served boiled potatoes- no roast potatoes with a ‘roast dinner’ swimming in gravy. I didn’t complain at the time as this was a surprise visit and did not want to upset my aunt
Good location and staff very friendly.
Dogs are allowed but only allowed on the couch. Having a few options would be better to sit with Ur dog. The buffet breakfast was very poor not a lot of choice.
Very disappointed with Alona Hotel. Booked a DBB deal directly with the Alona. Room okay clean and tidy bed comfortable. The restaurant very poor, window sills covered in dead flies and dust. The blinds covered in the same. Service for dinner very slow food average. The breakfast experience in the morning was more like a works canteen than 4 star hotel. Buffet style, fried eggs swimming in oil, no scrambled egg, I like crispy bacon it was inedible as it was so overcooked, pastries not restocked, no plates, (standing waiting on a plate while the ? Chef munching a roll in the kitchen) 5 tables not cleared from previous diners. I have had many buffet style breakfasts which have been so much better. I would not return to the Alona, it does not deserve it's 4 star rating.
Stayed before a few times and great location we thought as usually quiet next to park. …..but sadly not so good this time. The room window was broken and as there is no Aircon in this hotel it was stuffy and stale smelling even with a fan on all night. When the sun shone next morning on the wallpaper next to bed head it showed up loads of dust and cobwebs stuck to it. The mattress was very hard and well used so could do with a topper or upgrade.
Then as stated above room was not as clean as should have been and the 2 bed mattress in our twin room very uncomfortable. Not being able to open the window (as broken) in a warm stuffy room led to a bad sleep. Fan provided but as no Aircon in rooms it’s not enough. It certainly did not help that there was a very loud Prom concert on in a marquee in hotel grounds that night. Would have been nice to have been informed of this on booking in?? Could have chosen room on opposite side of hotel?
Easily accessible for motorway
Our ground floor room overlooked the wedding venue and the music went on til midnight.
Good location with easy access, by car, to central Glasgow.
The decor is a bit outdated.
Breakfast was really good, when we ate dinner at the hotel it was good. The bed and room were comfortable. It was nice having a safe in the room. The staff were excellent any thing we asked they were very helpful to get.
Would have been nice to have a fridge in the room. Instructions on how to use things, ie how to turn on the heated towel rack.
The location was superb and the view around
Stuff very bad/rude and unprofessional
Breakfast was good
Safe did not work properly. We got it to work with a key left in it but then was told we could not use key. So now no safe. We had to move rooms after a long day. It took too long to sort this out. I asked for a sheet for bed as Doucet was too heavy. Every day they took the sheet away and I had to ask for it again. It was very frustrating. Also tub is very high. Difficult getting in and out of shower.
Breakfast, the chef cooked porridge fresh for me each day, and the facilities were great
It was very warm in the room, but there wasnt any seperate controls for the temp
Staff really friendly, great for the kids, We only stayed for one night we will be coming back again.
Fantastic location, in Strathclyde Park and super close to the freeway
Location
Nothing really
It was very convenient location just off the motorway which was great for a stop over on route to our final destination !
Nothing all was great
الموقع
الخدمات سيئة للغاية مشكله بالتكيف لم تحل يومين الإفطار محدود لا يجد فرش أسنان ولا سبرات ولا خدمة حمل الشنط
The room was a good size and breakfast was very good.
The evening meal menu wasn't great and food was served, not fully cooked for one of our party.
Nice restaurant, good rooms - very happy overall.
All the staff were very friendly & helpful. They were particularly kind to our elderly relatives. The staff's local knowledge & the pleasant atmosphere that the whole team generated, helped us to enjoy our holiday all the more. The food was very tasty. The meals were enhanced by the amazingly spacious dining room with great views of the loch, This meant the tables were a good distance apart from each other & didn't feel crammed together. The hotel's location, meant day trips to Loch Lomond & the Clyde Valley were easily made. Upon returning, there was always plenty of car parking available.
No fruit available for breakfast on 2 days. Couldn't have hot chocolate on 2 evenings as no chocolate powder left. Ensuite door was damaged & cupboard door containing tea making equipment didn't close properly. Slight leak in the shower.
Great location for our needs
Location was brilliant
The food let it down
It was very clean and not too far from the venue and also had parking facilities.
Everything, staff lovely, great location, spacious room
We were in ground floor room by the taxi pick up which unsettled our dog but in future we will just request to be further away
Horrible experience. The restaurant is like a low end cafe. Damaged tables. Wobbly chairs. Dirty carpet with food debris. Dirty tables. Food was awful. Beef very tough in the steak and ale pie. Service very poor. We complained and they removed one drink from the bill but we still had to pay for mostly inedible food! Do not recommend this hotel at all. Does not feel like a 4 star hotel in the slightest! Never again!
I had evening meal and breakfast, evening meal had a good variety of choice and average prices, Great service and food was quicl kly delivered and hot, sraff were very attentive. Breakfast in the morning had a good selection (Buffet) and was all fresh when I went in, staff was friendly and advised how the buffet service worked etc. Only thing missing was no muesli, apart from that everything else was good with a selection of pastries as well
Thetype. TV in the room is pretty small, in this day and age no excuse for small tv's, Shower/shampoo was not clearly marked so assume it was a combined
Great Location Clean and Friendly Staff
The room was exceptionally spacious. The bed was huge, mattress & pillows soooo comfortable and shower a perfect walk in wet room within bathroom. Couldn’t ask for more. A great selection for breakfast and surprisingly all hot food kept very hot inside the warmers.
By mid afternoon, when we were having late lunch in the dining room, the children from a first communion celebration had spread out noisily from their area which is open to the dining room which is not ideal for other guests quietly dining there. That was a ‘one off’ while we were there. Other than that all was perfect.
Fabulous staff, very attentive to my needs
No morning newspaper
Price and surrounding grounds
Food wasn’t great, but nice enough.
Dinner was well presented tasted nice I had the Buttermilk chicken and service was excellent. I had cooked breakfast there was plenty of choices and service was good
The staff and food were great
Cobwebs in the windows in reception
One night stay very good breakfast perfect for us
Locatio. Staff
Location, resturant, rooms all very nice.
Think all washing facilities should be walk in showers, too much for elderly people to get into a bath/shower.
Situation, staff, room was quiet and comfy.
Breakfast was awful unless you like a lot of meaty stuff: no fresh fruit, no natural yogurt, lots of sausages, spam fritters, black pudding……
I could not use the shower in my room. The smell from the drain was absolutely horrendous. I had to put a towel over the drain just so I could go in there & use the toilet. The smell was so bad that I surprised Housekeeping staff did not inform them before putting a guest in there! Both bedside sockets for lamps did not work. Luckily I only had one night there & so I told them about this the next morning at checkout. I was advised that a manager would contact me, but I heard nothing.
Lovely room, great price, lovely staff, value for money. Great location
All great
Everything about it was good, from location, check in, friendly staff, room and food, all were great!
There was no bad points!
Had a lovely bite to eat, fish was the best I've had in a while, certainly be back but hopefully with a different lady friend haha.
Nothing but The area it was in was nice
Vary tired looking rooms, not that clean mattresses like sleeping in a Valley pillows were like sleeping on concrete
Staff were great. Location was perfect for us.
Rooms were a bit dated. Also wasn't keen on the proximity to the Funfair Rides.
The staff were nice
The breakfast buffet was topped up regularly so that nothing was dried out.
My wife noticed the hair dryer was nowhere near a mirror in the room. She said it must have been designed by a man.
Absolutely fantastic stay. Staff, food and general atmosphere was outstanding
Breakfast was fantastic. A tall gentleman with a beard was working the breakfast area and organised my veggie sausages very efficiently for me despite me only having a few minutes left before breakfast ended
Great value and very convenient location for a stop over on a long journey. Good food.
The hotel itself is great but a bus load of kids made such a racket, running along the corridor and one actually banged on my door, that it rather spoiled the stay. My friend in another room on another floor couldn’t sleep for the noise.
