Very central, walking distance from ferry terminal, own car park if needed, comfortable single room. Restaurant with castle view across harbour, perfect for plentiful breakfast, lunch or dinner (especially on Sunday when most places are closed). A bar is available if you want an evening dram.
Big step to get out bath/shower with no grab rail to avoid slipping. No lift for luggage to rooms although staff willing to help if required.
Noise of heater no shampoo in dispenser...ridiculos prices .
Boatyard restaurant is very good, Room price does not include breakfast - and it is a high priced room
Feines essen
Eher wenig abstellfläche im zimmer
We enjoyed our stay in the Royal Hotel. The hotel is in a very convenient location for walking into Stornoway. Our room was very small, but it had everything we needed, including tea and coffee. We had a lovely view of the harbor and Lews Castle across the bay. We did not hear much traffic noise from our upper room. The staff was great. Everyone was friendly and helpful, from the receptionists to the servers in the two restaurants. The breakfasts and dinners were very good.
This was not a problem for us, but you might want to know that the hotel has no elevator. Other than this and the small size of our bedroom, we were very happy with our stay here.
Lovely hotel with an excellent restaurant. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Large room with a nice view. Comfortable bed.
It was a bit overpriced, especially when they charged us £60 extra for two dogs for two nights without even providing a water bowl!
Service at dinner.

Location, room was very well appointed and very comfortable bed
Nothing
Classic British, lovely room no 18 Loved the elderly gentleman at the reception anyway the young barman… very helpful.
That we had to pay extra for a room with a shower. Dinner… kitchen last orders at 19:15 Breakfast very early.. 7:00 to 8:30
Food was very good. Staff helpful and well trained. Room very clean and everything you needed for comfort over four days.
Scored a room over the kitchen with associated smells and late-night noise. Outlook of kitchen vents and car park was poor.
Lage, Privatparkplatz
Old world charm and well appointed bathrooms. Restaurant was fabulous. Reception especially Lina were so friendly and helpful!!!
The room was small and odd shaped for what we paid. Room was a bit hot and bed small and hot.
Comfortable traditional hotel in great location. W we had a lovely view from our window. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was excellent.
The room and bathroom were a bit small. Expensive.

Nice room
Booking restaurant was hit and miss
Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room. Interesting art work around the hotel. Great location.
The car park is small! I was lucky to get parked on arrival.
Easy to access
Limited hotel parking so had to park on the street

Decent property, good restaurant, service was excellent, food was warm. Beds ok, coffee in room(instant)

Excellent location, extremely helpful friendly staff, v good food, a brilliant stay.
Currently scaffolding in place to enable work but no noise just obscuring the view a little bit
Breakfast room- great variety of food and friendly and efficient staff.

Friendly staff good service
The Royal is an old traditional property and whilst adequate, the bedroom facilities and decor was getting very tired. Sadly when we arrived we discovered our harbour view room window was completely obscured by scaffolding and green netting as they were doing work on the roof. No advance notification of this or alternative room offered.
Very pretty room and a beautiful view of yhe marina and castle.
We came very late and left very early😕
Great location
Building work and extremely slow service at breakfast for somewhat average breakfast. (Dinner was great though in bar restaurant)
All good
Price included for breakfast

Dog friendly room. Arran toiletries. Good location. Lovely to have bath and shower with a single room.
Shame one or other bar/restaurant not dog friendly.
L’accueil, l’emplacement et la décoration
La petitesse de la chambre mansardée
Right in front of a castle however there was a scaffold in our window. In fairness to the hotel they did call us a few days before we arrived to advise our view would be partially obstructed but by that point we wouldn’t have had an easy time finding other accommodations. Since we were only there a short time, we overlooked it. Close proximity to the town.
No special accommodations for hotel guests at the restaurant or bar. When we attempted to just buy a bottle of wine, we stood at the bar for a bit while the staff was too busy to assist. The second night we went we had a better experience and the hostess was very kind and we could tell she was seating people, answering questions, working the bar AND waitressing so we then changed how we felt. They were just REALLY busy.
Comfortable room and delicious supper in boat shed
More expensive than other accomodation in the Outer Hebrides but perfectly positioned to catch the 0700 ferry to Ullapool
The staff were extremely friendly, especially Casey at Reception who gave me really good tips about visiting Callanish Stones. Young g8rl serving breakfast also very helpful. Room good, very clean and bed exceptionally comfortable.
There was nothing to dislike about Royal Hotel, Stornoway. Could have benefited from a lift up to second floor with my case. I'm moderately disabled.
Excellent location near the pier and a very short drive from the ferry terminal. The staff were extremely friendly and professional, Lina particularly so.
All good.
Alles sehr fein. l
Old decor and close to sea
From day1 scaffolding was on the front and men were working on the roof outside our bedroom Disappointed we were not told till be checked in
Great location for views and great for where we were going.
Very loud heating and fan system in room, restaurant staff extremely slow.
An absolute gorgeous place to stay, we had a castle view room, it was spacious, warm and comfortable and the bed was super comfortable , the shower room was a good size with the nice touch with premium toiletries supplied. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble, and they took a genuine interest in your travels. We dined inThe Boat Shed restaurant in the hotel, again, this was a lovely dining experience, food is phenomenal and the staff are knowledgeable on their dishes and wines, they also make a really good cocktail. The breakfast is superb.

The view of the castle from the room 2 nice restaurants - we arrived late and one stayed open a little later for us to order some food Room was just right
Very friendly staff. I also like that there are 2 restaurants right there, very convenient.
Location
Worn and showing its age.
All was excellent - breakfast lovely, room spacious and wonderful view, restaurant food top notch.
Everything was good.
The Royal Hotel was amazing! Incredible staff that were attentive, quick, and very nice. The room was very comfortable (the beds were some of the most comfortable of our entire trip), the location was amazing, and it helped make our trip to Lewis a wonderful trip!

Convenient. Staff exceptional and very helpful. Especially the front desk. The restaurant (Boatshed is very good but popular. Book early if you want dinner in peak time.
Rooms at front can get a bit of traffic noise in the evening but it settles completely by 8pm . The hotel has no dedicated parking but street parking is easy.
Lovely view of the castle and water. Rooms clean and comfortable and the food at both restaurants was delicious. The thing that made our trip so wonderful was all the staff. They were so very helpful and friendly and will do everything and anything they can to make your stay the best it can be. Thank to all.

Location and on site restaurant
The room size and the bed size was too small, no elevator
Good location, good breakfast but expensive beers.
Pricey beers at approximately 8.80
Extremely helpful staff, rooms with everything needed for our stay and some added extras!
Nothing
Was perfect for ferry’s and allowed dogs , staff were really nice and friendly
Breakfast took around an hour to get it but was lovely when arrived
Staff couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Both the room and bathroom were lovely. Really nice and comfortable seating options to have a drink in the evening.
My experience was that the breakfast service was quite slow and what I received was never exactly as ordered. Breakfast menu could be improved with gluten free sausage and local black pudding (of which there is a gluten free version). A couple of minor adjustments to the dinner menu (eg to stock/flour) would add to the gluten free options.
Nicely situated near to harbor but scaffolding Unfortunately blocked the view a bit. Food was good but had to wait an hour each time we had dinner before being served. Seemed like they had too many outside diners and not enough space for residents
Given a very small room with an en-suite like a broom cupboard. Yet the charges were high and would expect a superior room for the price we paid
Perfectly located. Plenty of options for food. A busy casual dining experience and a more formal option. Probably the best food on offer in Stornoway town. Nice friendly staff.
I had a small bathroom with very little space. It needed a shelf to place toiletries.
The staff were excellent. The food was great and my room comfortable and clean.
Gorgeous single room
Nothing
We stayed 5 nights and found the hotel excellent - we had room 6 with a delightful bay window where you can sit and watch the world go by. The breakfasts were excellent and prepared freshly to order. We ate in the restaurant which was excellent. Service was superb from all staff members.
Nothing!
Exceptional sea views. Friendly staff. Good food.
Disabled access signposting misleading as it's through a fire door. You do need to talk to reception first otherwise very good access.
Comfortable room in the heart of Stornoway on the harbour front. It has two great restaurants off the reception areas and I found those perfect to spend the evening in. But most of all the staff were as lovely as you get. In particular I remember Lena and Gillian as being so helpful but everyone was just great and friendly.
The rooms and staff were good.
The food was poor considering it was so expensive.
Lovely room and really comfortable bed ! Shower was great . Friendly staff and everywhere was very clean
Breakfast wasn’t that great but the coffee was good 😊
The bar and restaurant in the hotel were both excellent, the food was delicious although a little pricey, but given the location and the high quality I'd expect to pay a little more.
The room was more traditional, they maybe require a bit of investment. Also the bed was a standard double (although I was aware of this at the time of booking) which is a little small for my liking, but comfortable none the less.
Really helpful & friendly staff. Big, very clean room with comfy bed, decent shower and good selction of tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Excellent choice and food quality at breakfast, and the food in the hotel restaurant, the Boathouse, was fantastic.
£207 per night is a little expensive.
food in both restaurants - VERY GOOD. Friendly helpful staf.
Excellent location. Fantastic food
Very helpful staff Great food
A huge thankyou to Gillian on reception who made us feel very welcome.
