Always friendly can check in early and park car then go to room when ready so can enjoy torquay
Nothing Steve is a great host
Location close to the harbour
Everything was fine
Fab value for money . Breakfast was five Star.Close to everything very nice of o wners
Everything.
Nothing.
Location was perfect. Hotel comfortable and friendly staff. Bar very pleasant
We enjoyed the location, quite central to town and convenient for shops and restaurants. Free Off street parking is also a bonus. Clean comfortable room with good facilities. We were able to buy takeaway and consume it in the bar downstairs.
Stairs were hard going for an out of shape chap. No lift. But that was just a minor thing.
The beds were so comfortable, the breakfast was lovely that you could personalise your cooked breakfast and it was served with a smile and very prompt. The location was brilliant to the harbour a 10 minute walk, the hill was steep walking back so took taxis which only cost £5 - perfect
The hill but easily overcome by taxis and taxi rank was easy to find and never waited .
Breakfast was good
No personal service parking was poor staff found it hard to smile felt like being watched all the time but creepy
Photos are very misleading, very dated and couldn’t use the pool, looked as if it’s there family pool
Friendly and helpful staff, great location, fantastic value
We return here often because we absolutely love it! The room was huge, a different room to what we usually have, but amazing sea views! Staff went above and beyond, as always 😌 Room was spotlessly clean.
Shower pressure on the top floor was not great, but its a big old building so understable! Think the beds could do with a topper as could feel the bottom, and don't forget the wardrobe, to dust, it was obvious it was simply missed, because everything else was perfect and dust free! Definitely wouldn't stop us staying again! Very small feedback to help moving forward 👍
Was within easy reach of town, harbour
nice place and location
shower was awful not much power took ages to get warm
Good location, friendly staff, reasonable price and excellent breakfast
Good room size but limited storage space
The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was lovely
Good location within 5 mins walk to the harbour . Very quiet and peaceful area. Lovely bar staff at the pub situated on the property. Live music was entertaining.
Bathroom facilities were quite small
Comfortable bed and pillows
Room looked nothing like the photos quite dated but clean and everything you need. Photo of harbour really not needed. Didnt really see any hotel staff but didnt need them, nice bar downstairs with freindly staff. Would stay there again.
Everything was fabulous, the staff were so friendly and our dog was so welcome!
Everything was wonderful
Staff were great, very helpful overall a good experience
Our room and bathroom were very small, im 6f 4in and did struggle
Colourful retro place! We found out there was a pool there too, though we didn’t use it. The breakfast room was a bar - charming surroundings to eat a wonderful hot and tasty breakfast.
Everything lovely family run hotel , very accommodating and lovely and clean
Nothing
Location to the harbour and restaurants is very good. Owner very friendly as are the other staff. Breakfast is very good. Rooms and facilities are adequate for a short stay. Inclusive parking is a great addition.
Nothing hence returning again.
Lovely hotel and the staff were lovely and welcoming. The glass of prosecco on arrival was a lovely gesture. The room was lovely and clean. Overall a great place to stay
Excellent location near the Harbour . Free on site parking which is a big bonus in Torquay . Only 5 mins walk to the harbour but longer coming back as it’s all uphill . Bar in site which is nice to chill out side with a drink in the nice weather . The room was very clean good size and the bathroom was a good size with plenty of room in the shower and room not long tastefully decorated looks very nice . Mini fridge in the room which is a big bonus for me . Also room had a sofa so had somewhere to chill . Nice view from the window of the pool and sea . Had a very lovely stay .
Leaving
The location was perfect for town and local attractions. The staff were all very friendly. Good on-site parking. Bar excellent and breakfast very enjoyable.
Nothing, it was all good.
Arrived at 12 couldn’t get in room till 2pm so decided to walk down the hill to the harbour had a few drinks walked back up the hill room was ready . Lovely room nice and clean . Under the hotel is a bar called the griffin you can gain access from the side of hotel . The bar has bands at weekend from 4 till 6pm fantastic bands . Then walk into harbour /town where a lot of the pubs have live bands.
Here at the moment, very friendly hotel in perfect location approx 5 min walk to Torquay harbour (up a hill). Griffin bar downstairs with live music every Saturday and sunday. Very clean room with really comfy bed and pillows, very soft towels. Small drinks fridge and kettle. Exceptional value for money. Tasty cocktails with cheap offer every day at all times inc weekends. Free pool table. No food after breakfast but the bar allows takeaways to be brought in. Outdoor pool is heated. Some areas of hotel could do with a bit of updating but this has not affected our stay in anyway. Hotel and bar do allow dogs, there are accessible rooms available but most rooms are up some stairs. Fantastic stay so far, highly recommend.
The shower wasn’t very good
The location was good a little uphill. There is a bus stop across the road , it's so easy to get out and about if you didn't have a car.. There is a small fridge which is very handy to keep cold drinks in.
The room was small and very hot; the shower was also small
Location, friendly owner. On site pub, comfortable bed.
A little dated, carpets a bit worn in places
What a hotel loved every bit of it the pool was lovely clean the sun loungers around the pool was a added bonus nothing was to much trouble for the owner and staff the town was just a little walk away so great location the bar on site had free pool and darts entertainment every Saturday and Sunday really enjoyed my stay will definitely stay again as already thinking of booking for next year thanks few days husband loved the pool and free freshly brewed coffee was also a bonus
Nothing to dislike about this hotel
Nice property but not as modern as in the pictures , bar is great with great staff
If your going for the swimming pool 🏊 look elsewhere , most of area out of bounds 4 sun loungers and pool is filthy and lots of flys around where sun loungers are due to bins , very disappointing as we booked for location and the pool due to the hot weather.
Amazing!!! Beautifully presented, clean modern and beautifully decorated. Kitchen area was nice.
Nothing
All the staff were amazing, food was fantastic and it was very clean and tidy. Also a great location. Fantastic value cant wait to go back
There was nothing we disliked
Comfortable bed, clean room & friendly staff
Deco in room but I suppose that’s down to personal choice. Pool was nice but could do with a little tidy up around that area.
Location & breakfast was excellent
The walk up from the front , but we knew about that before booking , so not a complaint
Pool, good staff
Nothing
Room was clean and comfortable. Cooked breakfast was lovely.
Hotel Needed some tlc. Fruit for breakfast was Frozen so a bit soggy. Hotel needs some upgrades. Decor was not as good as expected.
Everyone was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. .
Nothing
Room with sea view. Bed lovely and comfortable. Fridge and fan in room. Room service kept clean. Staff very helpful and gave good advice.
Slight hill but we were fine.
Breakfast was good. Bedding and room was fine.. Good location, just a short walk to town, great to have parking.
No access to pool dont think it was even in use... but we didn't ask. Very untidy next to pool, which we could see from our window. Reception a bit dated.
The staff were overall very friendly and accommodating, central location, clean and very comfortable.
The owner was very abrupt and seemed quite rude, but luckily it didn't dampen our stay
Good location. An excellent breakfast, the best we've had in a number of hotels. Very friendly staff
Nothing
The room was perfect for our stay beautifully decorated , great breakfast breakfast and bar staff and are a credit to the hotel
Location could not have been better. I slept like a baby and having the live music was a bonus.
The shower in the room needs some attention as the usual wear and tear have left it looking less than perfect. Would be good to try and get deals at local restaurants / bowling alley for guests to access, and have maybe a book for guests to put their comments in, so other guests can read them, maybe? We went for an Indian meal and wished we had gone for Italian instead, as it wasn't as good as we had expected.
The location was good. The Griffin bar was excellent.
Must admit struggled to get the shower in the room hot. Did it eventually lol.
Agressive and unprofessional staff and owner. Was aggressively sworn for making them aware their details were incorrect. I booked the hotel under the premises of paying at the hotel (which i sent proof to the hotel) they then emailed me demanding payment up front or they would cancel. Then when I said I would come in to sort it instead they told me they will be going to be police for threats.
Clean, comfortable and very quiet. Excellent location. Fridge in the room which was very welcome. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Very welcoming host and great room. Breakfast was lovely and all staff very friendly. A great loxation as only a short walk to the marina.
Wonderful 2 night break we had a superior king room lovelly bed room was really clean good ensuite shower room lovelly clean and comfortable bed lovelly views towards harbour we took 2 dogs with us,steve was really welcoming we only stayed room only but have stayed before and had breakfast which I really recommend the griffin bar below is lovelly the staff are all freindly and welcoming as well will definitely be,staying there again ,there's a good, size green space just across from the museum for exercising dogs and a,short walk to the harbour a good comfortable hotel such a nice change from the usual corporate bland hotels
Convinient place and room very nice and clean
Fantastic attention to detail e.g beautiful bedding and fat fluffy pillows, lovely cooked breakfast, clean well maintained pool. The downstairs bar is really quirky and serve great cocktails with live music at weekends.
Slightly tired carpets and some furniture.
Overall a very pleasant stay! Staff extremely friendly on arrival and room was ready early. The room very clean and spacious, beds comfy, beautiful sea view from the room, fan in the room which was a great bonus for the warm weather. Great little bar downstairs with live music on Saturday and sunday afternoons. Can't comment on breakfast as we didn't have it. Really lovely 5 nights at Yardley Manor!
Location was great
The staff were really friendly and helpful. Lovely bar with live music twice a week. Bed was comfortable. Coffee maker downstairs in the morning. A good base for catching the bus to other areas. Nice walk down to the harbour. Good drinks deals and nice ale. Had breakfast only once, because I struggle to eat a lot first thing and it was lovely.
I had booked very last minute so didn't realise there would be so many flights of stairs to my room. The rooms need updating really. Shower was good. Toilet seat had an area where it seemed to have perished due to over use. It didn't affect anything but needs replacing. The outdoor pool was small but nice, was not obvious where it was but once I'd found out, tried it once. I had hoped there would be loungers but there were chairs only, probably due to lack of space. Would have been great to have more live music in the week too. Furniture was very outdated and there were gaps in the drawers. Washbasin plug was broken..
Friendly arrival and greeted by Steve, Explained services available and opportunity to book a breakfast which is a separate price to the room. The breakfast was very tasty and good value. Thoroughly enjoyed by the four of us utilising 2 rooms. Will certainly return there when we’re back in Torquay.
Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a kingsize bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has car parking, its own bar and is quite close to the harbour and town centre. We would like to stay there if we are in Torquay again.
Every thing was very good except the garden furniture could do with replacing.
Great hotel just a short stroll up the hill from the Harbour so shops, pubs etc within easy walking distance Great bar on site too. Hotel and room spotless and comfy bed!
Would have been great if Bar had done meals and whilst the pool was great and welcome, some minor cosmetic improvements would make a huge difference eg. Get rid of the ramshackle plastic shed and put a few potted flower pots. Nothing major, was still great but these would just smarten the pool area up.
The staff were all so nice, the hotel location was about 10-20 mins walk from the harbour (depending on how fast you walk). Its not far away from other attractions either like the Model Village and Caverns, and Ottocombe Beach is a must go to! My dad is not in the best of health at the moment, and the staff could not do enough for him whilst we were there. There is a pub on site where you can play free pool & they have regular music entertainment on (we unfortunately did not stay during a weekend to see it, but it sounded like some good shows coming up on the notice board). The rooms were very clean & they provided everything you could possibly need - a fan, a mini fridge, hair dryer, hangers in the wardrobes, towels for the bathrooms etc... There is a pool on site as well which guests can use, which was a great bonus! You just have to let the hotel owner know you want to go to it in the morning so he can open the gate for you as it is on private land. The beds and pillows are SO comfy! The breakfast which was included in our stay was brilliant! You get a great variety of choice such as Yogurts/fruits/cereals, crumpets/toasted pancakes, and a full English breakfast or Lighter breakfasts (you can tweak it to suit your preference i.e. no baked beans, scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs, just have a bacon butty etc...). We really enjoyed our stay here.
There was no hook on the inside of bathroom door in Room 24, which I think would be a good addition to the bathroom for hanging a dressing gown or swim wear on to dry. It appears there are no toilets downstairs when the Griffin bar is closed during the day. So when you go to the pool during the day and the Griffin bar is closed after breakfast time is finished, you have to go back upstairs to your room in your swimming costumes & towels in order to use a toilet before coming back downstairs again and back to the pool (if there was any other toilets other than in the Griffin bar ones downstairs in the reception area/lower level of the hotel, we were not aware of them or didnt find them during our stay!). Room 23 does not have a black out blind, which my brother found when it started getting lighter in the morning he would wake up early and struggle to get back off to sleep due to the brightness coming into the room, but that was the only thing he noted about his room. Mine and my parents rooms both had black out blinds, so we had no issues at all. These are very minor things though in the grand scheme of things. We overall enjoyed staying at this hotel very much, and I would happily stay here again in the future and recommend to others.
Very clean the family that run the hotel where lovely. We did worry that noise from the bar would disturb us we never heard a thing. I also enjoyed the Griffin
It was very warm but that's not the hotels fault we had 2 fans which helped
Le personnel est très accueillant.
Le petit déjeuner est minimaliste.
Good location as not far from centre/harbour area: walkable. Has a large bar & lots of choices. Clean areas/rooms. Usually private parking. Before my stay I asked if I could have more tea facilities for my room and the Hotel obliged.
Loved the quirkiness of the hotel and the fact that it wasn't the same as every other generic one. Also has a pool which during a heatwave felt like we could have been anywhere abroad.
The temp in the bedroom was really hot. We had a heatwave. This was nothing to do with the hotel though. Can't help the weather.
Unsure how to rate this hotel - its different as the owner/manager seems quite direct in his manner. Yes its handy for the harbour, clean with a well sized bar too . But I felt some discomfort by just asking questions or seeking clarification on the day to day things. It was like those teachers who you wondered if they should have been in the job. You always feel as a customer you are just not clicking. Yes you get feedback buts its like a maths class.
We had an excellent stay here, room was clean and adequate, Breakfast was superb and staff so friendly. We took our golden retriever he was spoilt with sausage at every breakfast. The hotel is ideally placed with a short walk to the Marina and lots of places to eat. I booked directly with hotel on web site using a discount button and saved a lot compared to other sites. It is a bit rough around the edges but when taking dogs, you are often limited, but had a great comfortable stay!!
What a gem. I was looking for a budget friendly hotel for a couple of nights whilst my kiddo was in Exeter with a uni course. Greeted by Steve, who was friendly and informative. We actually arrived a couple of hours early, but he gave us our room key and fob to get in after hours and asked if we could wait for an hour or so before heading to the room. This suited us fine as we wanted to explore Torquay anyway. Booked the cosy room, fully aware that it was one of the smaller ones, but for the price, I couldn't knock it. The room was compact but clean and practical. There was a fan, small fridge, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, and tea and coffee facilities. Everything that you need, really. There was also a TV, but in all honesty, we were not in the hotel room to do more than sleep, so we never switched it on! The ensuite was small, clean, and tidy.. but then all you need is a loo, sink, and shower, I wasn't planning on spending hours in there. The hotel itself was positioned perfectly for us. People say that it's a steep hill (they clearly don't live in Wales 😆😆😆). The hill really wasn't that bad. The hotel was a little dated, but I would argue that it had character. It's not part of a chain, so no, it's not modern, but if you want generic and modern, I am sure a premier inn or travel lodge would be more your thing anyway. The Griffin Bar downstairs was lovely. We didn't have breakfast, but I am guessing that that's where it was served. Clean tidy and lovely staff. Now the pool... what a flipping luxury in the heatwave. Yes, you had to walk through a private area. Yes, there are signs that the proprietor and his family live at the hotel. But I do not believe that this warrants the negative reviews. Did this detract from the use of the pool. No, it did not. The pool had adequate seating around it, and it honestly felt like we could have been anywhere abroad. It was peaceful, private, secluded, and a welcome addition to our stay. I would book again if I was planning to visit Torquay again. Thanks for hospitality. It was much appreciated.
Nice old style hotel. Very central to town. Room a little small but clean and quiet. Breakfast very good both days.
No lifts.
Buon livello di pulizia e accoglienza, buon panorama e servizi accessori. Drink di benvenuto, precisione nelle procedure. Simpatia
Location. Parking. dogs aloud. Very nice club/bar.
Nice room on the top floor (getting too old to climb all the stairs) No breakfast available until Friday. Seaview obstructed by large tree.
The property was simple and cosy. Free tea and coffee in reception that you can use, plus the appliances in the room too. Bed were very comfy and pillows weren’t like paper, they genuinely were plump and comfy. Room is very clean, I only booked a standard room for work purposes.
The shower is abit small and the pressure of the shower wasn’t the greatest, pressure was weak. But very clean and water temp was great.
Very friendly hosts and staff. Excellent location, close to the town. Free parking. Lovely room with sea view and big comfortable bed. Shower was good, tea and coffee making facilities plus a small fridge. The breakfast was excellent, bacon in particular. Dog friendly.
Everything was excellent.
Helpful freindley staff . Couldn't ask for more enjoyed our visit outstanding
Everything's 9
Friendly, greeting when we arrived despite the hotel suffering an unplanned electricity cut and refuse vehicle knocking down part of the hotel wall and blocking the access road. The Pub downstairs in the hotel was really great. Bed was really comfortable and we had a corner room with two windows. This was really handy given the very hot weather and we were able to get a bit of a breeze
I don't think there was anything I "didn't like". It was an older building and whilst I might normally have chosen something more contemporary it had lots of character. Parking could be a little tight but the hotel had done a good job with the available space. We were so close to town that we didn't use the car between arriving and leaving
I thought the breakfast, pool and the fact there is music on weekends was really good. Also, a mini fridge in the room
Fan in our room was definitely needed with the heatwave- thank you. Pool area fab, great selections on the bar and the choices and quality of the breakfast was spot on. Friendly service all round. Loved our dogs where made very welcome.
Needed a bigger fridge. That is all.
Excellent value for money, just came home today after spending a six night stay, room was small as described but very cosy, bed really comfortable, bathroom lovely, had everything we needed. location superb, with close bus service if wanting to explore a little further, we caught the bus to babbaccon beach it was lovely, once you get there take the lift down to the beach the views are amazing. Staff really friendly, lovely bar area and were given vouchers for free glass of Prosecco and other discounts.
There was nothing we disliked
As a regular traveller I always like to start with the positives. due to myself and friend not being on the ball and researching adequately we fell short of expectations, lesson learnt. Nice white crisp bedding and fluffy towels, beds comfortable with matresses protection Bathroom facilities clean and basic suitable for needs but unable to open window for ventilation Lovely helpful Young man behind reception greeted us and kindly carried out suitcases up the 4th floor Pleasant staff in breakfast area. In a fairly good position, close to town but up a steep hill. Then it all comes to a drastic halt. Placed on top floor - 4 flights of stairs not great for two fairly agile retired ladies Room small but adequate. Everything dated and a bit scruffy, but appeared clean. during that scorching heatwave it just became an oven with no where to escape to. One small fan and fear of opening window too wide as seaguls ready to fly in at any given opportunity. We appreciate no one can control the weather Well there's a pool to relax and cool off we though?? Definately not, rethink that option. Absolute death trap trying to navigate your way through by an old boat parked up planks/timber, gas bottles, numerous stacked containers of unknown liquids (exposed to direct sunlight) where children can access, wires, real trip hazards. Garden and pool area in a bad state, broken furniture. Overgrown garden with old water buts and general garden waste and then expected to sit and look at the proprietors expanse of laundry on display. Health and safety have obviously never paid a visit The inside of the property had random old scruffy sofas and odd chairs stacked everywhere and general rubbish just randomly stacked behind sofas, just random clutter everywhere, made faulty towers look positively luxurious. We left early, cut our losses and paid for an alternative hotel in Torquay to enjoy our last couple of days. When checking out we tried to keep it low key, explained that we had found the room far too hot for us, but then didnt expect for the rude abusive little man to be so aggressive and challenging he was definately up for a battle. We promptly left before things became unpleasant. Im sure the proprietor will be vengeful with his reactions to our review like he has been with all his other negative reviews. Just a suggestion maybe take the criticism on the chin and make the necessary changes to prevent these negative comments re occurring and improve the quality of your establishment
Good location.Didn't have breakfast
Small bathroom and bathroom could do with decorating
We actually had the room above which was nice and spacious and well furnished. We had a mini fridge and kettle in the room The bathroom was modern and clean.
Some areas are dated but it didn’t detract from enjoying our stay. It gave the hotel a more comfortable feeling.
Position was ideal.
The hotel was on a rather steep hill , so took a while to get there, not ideal for unfit walkers ! Take a car is a safe bet , otherwise it was clean and nice .
Very well situated for a short walk into the centre of Torquay, friendly staff and live music at the hotel over the weekend we were there.
Would have benefitted from air conditioning as weather was hot while staying at the hotel.
All nice really friendly staff
Nothing
Die Lage und die Mitarbeitenden waren super! Auch unsere beiden Hunde waren gerne überall gesehen, auch beim Frühstück, was sehr gut war (Frühstücksbüffet und auf Bestellung)!
Location just a short walk to town centre. Place had its own bar and swimming pool. Bar was great with free pool and darts. Drinks were very reasonable and live bands in the afternoon.
Room was very nice. Decor could do with updating but still overall very pleasant room to stay in.
The host was brilliant and our room too as we got an upgrade - thank you. Also, the location is great, parking was easily accessible and overall great value for money. There is also a pub downstairs that's really nice to have a drink in too.
Everything was really good
Location was good, the room was comfortable, parking provided at no extra cost and breakfast was always more than you could eat
Nothing, we will go back
Good location. Clean, comfortable and a great breakfast.
Good location to the town and its facilities, nice to have a bar/pub in the hotel
Nothing except a bit of a steep hill to get from the town
