Quiet location. Nice to have a fridge with fresh milk provided. Lovely breakfast cooked fresh to order using quality local products. Beautifully clean, well furnished, spacious room (14 - Riviera room) Very friendly hosts - this was our return visit. If coming to Torquay again we will definitely stay here.

The Charterhouse is a hidden gem. It is in a perfect location for accessing Cockington village and Torquay. The house is beautiful, in lovely gardens with hidden depths...terraces, pool and tucked away suntrap. The breakfasts are amazing, cooked to order and cooked to perfection. Lisa and Christophe are the perfect hosts, accessible , friendly and very accommodating.

Location is about a 20 min walk from Torquay Harbour, 3 mins to local beach and 3 mins to the bus stop which takes you either to Torquay or the other direction to Paignton

Quite a distance from any local eatery (Torquay, 15min walk) , so meals need some planning if wit small kids

Quiet and nice feel at home. Car parking is a bonus where finding car parking can be time wasting in Torquay.

Sehr nettes House, herzliches Willkommen, schöner Blick in den terrassierten Garten mit verschiedenen Sitz- und Liegemöglichkeiten. Frühstück individuell abgestimmt, Zimmer schön.

Lovely hosts, chatty and welcoming. Top notch brekkie with a shout out to the home made jams. Very unintrusive, but always available to help when needed. We loved the pool, just a few metres from our door. It's petite but perfect for the kids to splash about. And, let's be honest, us too. Two lovely cats, one of which did a room inspection every morning 😅

Very peaceful setting, in easy reach of Livermead Sands and Cockington Country Park. Lisa and Christophe look after their guests very well, we were very comfortable in our dog-friendly room and had everything we needed. The breakfasts were excellent, freshly cooked and beautifully presented. We had a lovely stay here and would definitely return!

Wir hatten ein tolles, großes Zimmer. Man kommt zu Fuß (ca. 20-25 Minuten) gut zum Hafen und nimmt heimwärts bequem den Bus. Die Eigentümerin ist sehr freundlich, die Anlage gepflegt. Das Frühstück wird individuell nach Wunsch zubereitet.

Der Frühstücksraum könnte etwas freundlicher gestaltet sein … ist aber wirklich ein Detail. Und das Publikum ist tendenziell etwas älter … auch das ist aber kein Drama.

Just what we needed, very relaxing

Everything was fantastic. We had delicious breakfasts every day with a good selection of foods on offer. The room was immaculately clean, and the bed was so comfy, I wish we could have taken it with us! The ultimate bonus was the pool, which we all loved, especially the kids. Our hosts were both amazing, so friendly and accommodating. The hotel is so conveniently located. Close to the town and beach but still lovely and quiet, a lovely riviera feel. Thank you Lisa and Christophe.

All aspects of staying there were perfect! Location,accomodation,breakfast and mostly Lisa made you felt like a special guest.

Außergewöhnlich gutes, kleines Hotel! Das Frühstück war phantastisch, wurde jeden Morgen frisch zubereitet. Die Gastgeber Lisa und Christophe sind außerordentlich freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die "Kaffeebar" auf dem Zimmer wurde jeden Tag neu bestückt. Das ganze Anwesen ist sehr gepflegt und weitläufig, es gab viele Möglichkeiten, sich im Freien aufzuhalten. Der kleine Pool war sauber, lag direkt vor unser Tür und sehr erfrischend. Unser Zimmer war zwar klein (was uns allerdings nicht gestört hat), verfügte aber über eine Terrasse mit Sitzmöglichkeiten.

Es gibt nichts, was uns nicht gefallen hat!!

The house and grounds are beautiful! The views are amazing! The pool is warm and inviting. The owners are friendly and welcoming, and extremely helpful. The breakfasts are delicious and the scrambled egg was the best I've tasted! Everywhere was very clean and tidy. The property is just over a mile from the harbour and town but only 5mins walk to the beach. Plenty of amenities nearby. This is a home from home, very relaxing and we would highly recommend a stay!

A cool oasis of peace and calm in a summer heatwave. The little outdoor swimming pool and deck plus the leafy garden were lovely. Short walk to the beach.

Een leuke week gehad in deze fijne B&B! De kamer was piekfijn in orde, met prachtig zicht op de haven van Torquay. Een veelzijdig verzorgd ontbijt, een tuin, terras of zwembad waar je even kon verpozen en een heel vriendelijke gastvrouw!

Host were amazing, the breakfast was always hot and prosented very well. Room was very clean and nothing was to much if you needed anything. An amazing place to stay , minutes away from beach , would recommend to anyone to visit

The near Cockington location was great for us. Lounge, terrace, and gardens made for a relaxed stay. Room was clean and comfortable.

We were working and breakfast was a little late, but we were offered a breakfast tray, which was a lovely thought, and much appreciated.

Een heel rustig en schoon verblijf! De kamer was erg schoon en de badkamer heel netjes! De eigenaren zijn ontzettend lief en behulpzaam. Het ontbijt was geweldig en zeer uitgebreid. Goede uitvalsbasis voor de omgeving, vooral Dartmoor National Park is een aanrader!

Our bedroom had everything we needed, such a comfy bed, and we loved our front door and little patio. The beautiful cats were an added attraction and the gardens are really pretty and relaxing.

It was unusual to have a door to the dining room straight from our bedroom, I felt it reduced our privacy a little.

Pretty close to city center, the water and restaurants. Room cheerfully furnished...attention to detail lovely. Breakfast was amazing. Our first morning we left before breakfast and we were able to eat some treats when we got back late afternoon. Overall I'd stay again. Oh. Also appreciated parking at the property...a bonus for sure. Real coffee at breakfast and fridge...used it for insulin .

The location was good for what we wanted to explore. The landlady was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The house and gardens are beautiful. We chose the location because of its proximity to the train station.

It was a bit out of the way from the centre of Torquay.

Location was perfect, a short walk to the town, but far enough to be peaceful and quiet, the house and room was perfect, but most of all clean. The pool was an added bonus that was ideal for my 9 yr old to enjoy. For breakfast we had plenty of options every day and we tried it all, it was delicious every day, on one day we had an early start so Lisa prepared it for us the evening before and delivered it to our room ready for us which was extremely helpful. All the guests staying were extremely friendly and our hosts were just wonderful, chatty and very welcoming. We can't wait to visit again

Fabulous location and friendly host. Room was spotless and comfortable. Added bonus was a mini fridge, ideal for longer stays and chilled drinks on a hot day. Perfect dog friendly room with direct access to the garden and great walks from the door. Will definitely stay again.

We could not fault our stay at the The Charterhouse. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. They went above and beyond for us during our stay. The room was lovely, cozy and clean. Breakfast was superb.

The charter house is a beautiful property , the staff are absolutely lovely! Rooms were very well kept and clean . Nice and warm for an autumn/winter stay too. We would definitely come again :)

Ideal location and with parking on-site, it was easy to find. A most lovely welcome by our host and a very comfortable room with everything we needed, including fresh milk.

The hosts went above and beyond and couldn't do enough for you. I did a Parkrun on the Saturday morning so couldn't make breakast so Lisa left me a breakfast in the mine which was lovely. Room was clean, warm and even had hot chocolate!

The owners, Lisa and Christof were such amazing hosts, nothing was too hard to organise. Breakfast was the best we’ve had in a long time, each meal individually prepared. The rooms were beautifully presented and perfectly functional. It was pet friendly, however we did not have our dog with us. A short 8-10 min walk to the Torquay foreshore and restaurants, a great location and wonderful stay.

Lisa and Christophe are the loveliest hosts, so welcoming and accommodating, I felt like part of the family. The Charterhouse itself is wonderful with a pool and extensive gardens and is set back from the main road so you are not bothered by traffic. It is perfect for rest and relaxation. The beach is a short walk away, or there is a beautiful walk through the water meadows leading to tea rooms and a pub. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, and breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend and cannot wait to visit again.

That I had to leave 😪

I loved everything, from the moment of booking, until we left. My 8-year-old daughter and I were met with a warm welcome by Lisa. My daughter is really anxious and barely talks to strangers. Lisa had her speaking in French in as little as 3 minutes. Honestly, Lisa is so welcoming it just puts you at ease that fast. We were shown to our room, it was beautiful 😍 and clean. All the amenities and more. We gave Lisa our preferred time for breakfast for the next morning, we messaged our choices over later on that day. After a wonderful, peaceful, and cosy nights sleep, we headed down for breakfast. Beautiful breakfast room with a selection of cereals and juices. Lisa greeted us both. That's what really stood out to me. Lisa remembered my daughters name and engaged in conversation with her. This is the main reason I'm writing this review. I watched Lisa engage with everyone in the room, both adult and child, so welcoming and genuine. It was really lovely 😍 to see. Our breakfasts on both mornings were fantastic. We had the cooked breakfast the first morning, and pastries on the second. The cooked breakfast is filling and hot. Cooked to perfection 👌. The pastries were lovely and went down a treat with my little Miss. The entire break away was made so much better by staying here and not in a generic hotel. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning next summer. Maddi might even have some new French words to share. Thank you so much for having us. Kelé and Maddi xxx

The only thing we weren‘t aware was that the Kitchen was opposite to our room. So when we arrived we had all that Bacon Scent in the Room and we were scared, that we‘ll wake up at 7am from sizzling Bacon Smell… Happy it wasn‘t that way - the other thing that bothered me was that Digital Registration. In every Accommodation we booked so far we never had to do so.

The Charterhouse was as advertised, only better. Our room was very comfortable and large. The couple who manage the hotel were very nice and easy to communicate with. The location is really special, in walking distance of Torquay, but a little removed on a quiet country lane, half a mile from the lovely Cockington Country Park. It is a lovely Edwardian building, well maintained. The cleanliness was really impressive.

Lisa was so friendly from first communication right through to the end of our stay. It is in a fabulous location, perfect if driving or travelling by train. My daughter and I felt very safe and cared for. Excellent breakfast and beautifully presented rooms. Homemade jams and locally sourced ingredients made a very special touch. I'd recommend the Peach and Vanilla and Raspberry jams😍

Comfortable and clean property, with good parking. We didn’t have the breakfast, but it looked good from all the reviews! Fresh milk in the fridge for morning teas. The host was very accommodating on our late arrival. Spacious room.

Location for us was perfect! Lovely and quiet for the evening but within a 20 min walk of the centre for during the day. The room was nicely decorated, clean and the fridge came in very handy as it allowed us to store some drinks and snacks to take out on day trips. Couldn’t fault the owners. Lisa was welcoming when we arrived and made sure we were well looked after at breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was great. The property does sit on a hill so some may find the driveway difficult. To get around this, there are steps through the garden and I’m sure the owners would happily assist with bags should anyone need help from the lower car park. Would definitely recommend and if we ever returned I’d happily rebook.

Not a complaint, just personal preference, we would have preferred a bigger TV in the room. There is a larger TV available in the communal lounge area, but after a busy day, we just wanted to chill in our room. Also, staying in the family room, it would have been handy if the connecting room had a TV.

From start to end, the trip was made special by Lisa and her partner. It was my other half's birthday and Lisa made sure balloons were ready and took delivery of the cake for his special day for our arrival. Nothing was too much trouble!

The welcome from our lovely host. The clean room and facilities were amazing. Fridge in room everything was spotless bedding towels ect. It even has a few areas to sit and a pool. Oh and breakfast was soo good with lots of choices.

The drive . The car park was at the bottom it was great and roomy it was a slope upto the house. It was worthwhile but maybe a mention.

Lisa & Christophe have absolutely nailed every detail of a luxury stay. From the bed to the shower, the breakfast to the building & grounds, what lovely people with a lovely home.

There's nothing to dislike here, we would happily stay if we could.

Can't fault at all. Lovely little apartment,. Well looked after. Parking onsite. Close enough to leave the car and walk down to the main area of Torquay. Had breakfast served in our room as we had my dog with us . Really great food and nothing too much trouble.
