Hotel Metropole

We would not recommend the Metropole Hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. In all the years we have travelled and stayed at hotels with our family, we have rarely encountered such poor and unfriendly service. The staff were unhelpful, and at times their attitude towards us felt disrespectful and discriminatory. We had the impression that they were not accustomed to hosting international guests and did not make any effort to provide the level of hospitality one would normally expect from a hotel in such a beautiful destination. After a long journey, we simply asked for some water or coffee upon arrival. Instead of offering us anything, we were told to go and buy it ourselves at the bar. This was just one of several unpleasant experiences during our stay. Unfortunately, the overall attitude of the staff made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. If you value respectful, warm and professional hospitality, we would not recommend staying at this hotel.

Have stayed at this hotel severl times. Staff remembered us which was nice. Had same room which has no seaview but large terrace which is noisy during day due to traffic but double glazing means room is quiet. Swimming pool was warm. Great private beach with deck chairs or sun beds. Hotel restaurant excellent as was lunch in cafe. Front desk very helpful when we enquired about trains going to Nice. Within walking distance of most things in Ste Margherita.

Our guests stayed here for our wedding weekend with 6 rooms booked for our families, and unfortunately the experience was marred by an incident with a staff member on night duty. We were met with rude, aggressive behavior, as well as a pointed comment about us being American that felt out of place. We raised this with management afterward and received an apology, but no real corrective action followed. Overall, it was a poor experience with rude staff.

What an amazing hotel and city! Highly recommend. We had the family suite and it was spacious, convenient to the beach and clean. The breakfast was great, location couldnt be better and the beach was fantastic. We will be back!

We had a very nice stay at Metropole. The private beach area is well managed and close to the hotel. The gardens are beautiful. The hotel was clean.

An excellent hotel in a very good location near the station within walking distance of the centre of the town. Excellent room, staff and facilities. Breakfasts superb and the evening meal was so good on first night we ended up eating here most nights. Lovely pool with well kept gardens and places to sit in the shade. Beach area and cafe attractive to sit out at and enjoy lunch. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who asked.

Hotel Metropole, a beautiful 4 star hotel that sits on a hill overlooking the Ligurian Sea and its cerulean waters, is a GREAT FIND. Nestled along the edge of the Italian Riviera, this boutique gem offers old world sophistication with luxury. From the minute we walked in the door, we were with friendliness and enthusiasm. Concierge was 5 star. I loved my stay here, and as a travel agent, I will be recommending this hotel for my Santa Margherita bookings. It's a great home base for visiting Cinque Terre and Portofino, and it's a 2 minute walk to the train station. The town center is a 5 minute walk. The spa treatments are 5 star. Do not miss Blue Santa Restaurant when visiting and Trattoria Pescatori (old world charm). The pesto in this area is OUTSTANDING! **If mattresses are too firm, ask for mattress topper and extras pillows. The front desk is very accommodating.

Beautiful gardens wind down to beach area with good swimming and a great informal bar/restaurant overlooking the water. Elegant rooms (mine 112 had a terrace with lovely views across the bay) and smart bathrooms. Excellent quiet aircon. Food very good from wide-ranging breakfast buffet to the beach restaurant to more formal dinner. Staff friendly and helpful including being responsive to questions long before we arrived. We brought our mother in a wheelchair and they made sure she had an accessible room, and they arranged parking for visiting friends. The street behind the hotel has noisy traffic but it fades away as soon as you’re in the property. 5 minute walk into town with good restaurants, shops and ferry to Portofino etc. Highly recommended!

Absolutely love this hotel! Peaceful, beautiful and friendly staff. Perfect location to explore from, close to train station and ferries. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at Hotel Metropole for three nights in May and used it as our home base while we did excursions to Cinque Terra and Portofino. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room, room 253, was very nice. We had a beautiful view of the water and the room had a wrap around deck where we could sit and enjoy the weather and the views. The breakfast was good and had a wide selection of various pastries, fruit, eggs, meats and cheeses. We did not utilize the massage services, but we did visit the spa to soak in their indoor pool. They also have an outdoor pool but the weather was still a bit chilly to use the outdoor pool. The indoor pool however was heated and was designed to make you feel as if you were swimming in a grotto. It was really unique and relaxing. The beach is directly outback from the hotel and the hotel has its own private beach complete with lounge chairs, towels, umbrellas, changing areas and outdoor showers. This hotel was a perfect place to stay, relax and enjoy the region as well as Santa Margherita!

We hosted our Pre Wedding Aperitif at Hotel Metropole to welcome all of our guests traveling from around the world to come to our wedding in Santa Margherita. The aperitif was set up beautifully at the beach terrace, with prosecco, champagne cocktail and non alcoholic drinks catering for all of our guests. The food was also delicious and plenty. From the moment we reached out to the hotel and to Giulia Ciana, she helped us organise our event beautifully, and even provided a microphone for our family to give welcome speeches. This hotel is absolutely stunning. Sits closer to one end of town but is a short walk to everything. We had a gorgeous room with stunning views from the balcony. The hotel delivered a bottle of Prosecco shortly after our arrival as we were celebrating our anniversary. The hotel is quiet and is surrounded by beautiful grounds. We enjoyed cocktails on the patio several evenings. The breakfast buffet was large and has plenty of options. We felt the coffee was a bit weak compared to everywhere else. We also ate dinner in the restaurant one night but felt the food lacked flavor and was overpriced for what it was. The dining room also feels a bit outdated. The room itself was ample. There was a kettle in the room for coffee or tea, and there is also a mini bar. There was ample closet space. The beds were comfortable. The hotel only had one very small elevator to get to our room on the third floor. We found the elevator to be busy quite often, so many times we had to take the stairs. The staff was always helpful and nice and they kindly arranged for an early morning taxi ride for us when we left to go to our next location. The hotel staff was kind enough to ask if we wanted a breakfast box to go. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

While the hotel includes a complex of buildings, it is positioned in a prime location for both Santa Margherita and Portofino. It is best to opt for a room with a golf view if you want to make your experience memorable. The view from the balcony outside is fantastic, notwithstanding the small size of the balcony. The plce is anold building, like most traditional hotels in Europe, that has been very well maintained and equiped with all necessary ammenities. Their cosmetic line leaves a lot to desire and is a total mismatch with everything else which is close to superlative. The gym is very decent for a European hotel. Everything around is within walking distance, including eating and shopping. The included breakfast is outstanding.

Location is great, the view is amazing. The beds are comfortable. The front desk person upon our 4:30am departure made us coffee, water & cookies for travel on our 3 hr train journey. Great checkout!

Wish our welcome was as nice as our departure. No greeting, no one to give hotel details or help with luggage. Not a friendly welcome, just a hand over of room key. The hotel has a musty scent and I felt that someone was smoking near our room. Maybe outside and it was still bothersome. Our linens on the bed were not changed between nights. I know this because my hair band was in the sheets when we returned. There are no wash cloths with the towels in the bathroom. The doors are metal and industrial looking. Felt like a college dorm. The cost of this hotel was more than other hotels we have stayed at in Santa Margherita. I didn’t feel the extra cost was worthy in the off season.

Nous étions au 1er étage , nous avions demandé lors de la réservation une vue mer nous n avons eu qu un aperçu et encore il fallait se pencher …. Dommage. A part cela l hôtel et le personnel surtout étaient parfait .

Prywatna plaża wciąż czynna mimo, że byliśmy już po sezonie - 11-13 października 4. Zagospodarowanie terenu 5. Kuchnia, nakrycia stołów, obrusy, sztućce.. wysmakowane + śniadania na świeżym powietrzu (mimo prawie połowy października było cieplutko i słonecznie przez cały nasz pobyt) 6. Zaskoczenie - bardzo miłe prezenty niespodzianki dla mojego męża, który miał urodziny. DZIĘKUJĘ. 7. Miejsce podobało się również bardzo naszej 10 letniej córeczce.

Właściwie drobiazgi.. Przyjechaliśmy pociągiem z Genui wcześniej do hotelu, bo taki mieliśmy przylot .. nie czekaliśmy długo na pokój.. mogliśmy do niego wejść wcześniej, za co dziękujemy.. natomiast chcieliśmy się czegoś napić w oczekiwaniu.. ale nie było takiej możliwości.. musieliśmy czekać do otwarcia restauracji. Ręczniki na hotelowej plaży nie zawsze były dostępne. W łazience były plastikowe kubeczki (mogłyby być szklane).

Great place, very central and next to the sea. Amazing staff. And have to say the restaurant is one of the best I have tried in a hotel. Exceptionally good.

Facilities were immaculate. Super clean. Gardens really well tended and cared for. Pools and shared areas very clean. Room was good, our bathroom lovely and very clean. beds comfortable. Really enjoyed the spa, outdoor pool and beachside cafe and sun bed area. Location was superb. 2 mins from train station. Under 5 minutes to town centre and ferry. Staff friendly and attentive. Peaceful.

Breakfast was Ok. Could have been better. Missing some hotter cooked food items and pastries were a bit cheap. Good service though. No kettle in room. Minor items. Our balcony was near the road and overlooked a roof.

My wife enjoyed her massage with candle at the spa very much! The hotel is incredibly beautiful and dinner and breakfast are both spectacular! We return every year to this incredibly beautiful hotel! The staff are also so very friendly and are almost like a 2nd honorary family to us! Bravo!

This is one of the most beautiful hotels in all of Italy! The location on the Mediterranean Sea is breathtaking! My wife always has a wonderful massage with candle at the beautiful spa, and the breakfast and dinner at the restaurant are always spectacular! We return every year and the hotel even grants our request to stay in the same sentimental room! The staff are so incredibly friendly and we feel as if they are a second honorary family to us. A fantastic location on the hill overlooking Santa Margherita Liguri with gardens running down to the water. We had sensational views of the bay from our corner room on the third floor. Beautiful hotel just far enough away from the hectic centre but close enough to walk in. Breakfast was extensive with fresh juices and great coffee.

The rooms are too pricey for what you get. It is an Old Property in Santa Margheta Italy.. convenient location to the train station, the beach, port town square and to shuttle to Portofino. The rooms are small, not very luxurious, NO IRONS in the room, The Breakfast buffet was average, The grounds are beautifully maintained. The Pool and terraces are lovely and scenic. But still not worth the money.

Nice mid tier property, the tall front desk guy was a jerk but our stay was ok overall. The hotel is dated, smoky in the hallways and there’s rule signs everywhere. The best part was the ocean patio area.

Amazing! Stayed here at least 5 times in the past 10 years and this hotel never disappoints. My only complaint is at €400 a night for our double seaview room, the €20 daily lounge bed fee should be included in the price of the room.

This hotel is sophisticated, charming, and set in the most beautiful grounds of manicured gardens with spectacular views. The rooms have retained their elegant style with attention to detail in the amenities to make your stay the completely memorable experience you would expect. The staff are very professional and helpful. The spa area is wonderful as is the pool and sea side area. So much attention to detail. Breakfast buffet is superb! Thank you to the hotel management and staff for such a magnificent holiday break!

Everything was great - location, accommodations, views - it was extra for a beach bed…felt a little “nickel and dimed” for a basic beach amenity - just include it in the price!

Very clean, nice location, the food was amazing and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Even though the hotel is quite nice, it could use a bathroom renovation, because it was a bit old.

Fabulous property - I had a smaller Single room but with a fabulous patio with a mountain view. It was very comfortable but it is the facilities outside that are worth raving about. The beach area, beach bar are all fabulous in a hot day. The outdoor pool is just perfect but the spa facilities are outstanding. That indoor pool and spa area outstanding along with the grounds.

This is a fantastic little hotel with great facilities including the pool and beach area. The rooms were a generous size, nicely cleaned and maintained and the breakfast buffet was great.

Not the friendliest of service at reception which was the low point. English isn't great and questions seemed to be an 'inconvenience' especially to a couple of the gentlemen. Staff at pool ans across F&B were great though. Did get a decent bite from something in bed which wasn't ideal however to be fair we did air the room out with open windows during the day

Tolle Lage am Strand und absolute Zentrumsnähe. Tolles Frühstück, allerdings muss man für Spiegelei (8.00 €) oder Omelette (12.50 €) zuzahlen. Sehr gepflegter Park und Strand. Gut ausgestattete Zimmer. Sehr hundefreundlich.

Beim Einchecken kam leider sofort die Ernüchterung. Der komplette Indoor spa, auch die Schwimmbäder sind kostenpflichtig (3.50 € pro Stunde und Person). Der angegebene Wellnessbereich war der Grund dieses Hotel zu buchen. Die Standliegen kosten 20 € pro Person, obwohl man Hotelgast ist. Der Parkplatz mit 30 € sehr teuer, der angepriesene Parkservice war nicht präsent. Last but Not least haben uns die vielen Kameras massiv gestört. Sie waren in allen Gängen und direkt in der Hecke am Balkon. Die Kamera war direkt auf uns gerichtet. Bei unserer Bitte diese zu entfernen oder abzustellen, würden wir abgewiesen, mit der Begründung diese seien zur Sicherheit. Die Kamera speziell am Balkon hat die Privatsphäre massiv eingeschränkt. An der Rezeption liefen die Monitore mit der Überwachung. Der Kühlschrank darf nur für hoteleigene Getränke benutzt werden.Vor dem Auschecken haben wir zuerst das Gepäck im Auto verstaut. Zwei Mitarbeiter waren zutiefst besorgt, dass wir wohl die Zeche prellen und kontrollierten uns am Ausgang. Wer in der Lage ist, dieses Hotel vorab zu bezahlen, wird wohl auch den Rest bezahlen können.

This place is a well kept secret and a hidden gem, wow, so happy to know about it! I came in August 2022 and now again July 2025, both times were excellent. The service! I'm just going to say the service and the attention to detail is one of the things that really sets this place above. And additionally, it's a stunning location, minutes walk from the train station and nestled in it's own private cove of water front real-estate. I get the sense families start coming here for years, as a tradition and I can see why. Very comfortable, I had everything I needed, the access to the sea is exemplary. Yes, you have to pay an additional €20/person/day for a flat bead chair, ok, it's worth it, and everything else I would say is quite reasonably priced! suggestion: go to Trattoria da Pezzi for lunch. I had a great time here, will go back and hopefully with family. This place seems kid friendly as well.

Excellent hotel right on the beach. Absolutely loved this hotel. It was absolutely stunning! Our room was huge and the balcony came right out onto the beach front. The hood at breakfast was great. Lots of variety. The pool was a standout. Stunning views of the gorgeous surrounding buildings and the pool barman/ lifesaver was an absolute legend. So lovely and hospitable. He also tops your drink right to the top which made us very happy. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Santa Margherita

Etablissement tout près du port, en 5 min à pied jusqu'au départ des bateaux. L'hôtel est pas vilain il dispose de place de parcs ce qui est pratique.

L'hôtel est au bord de la route, ce qui en fait un endroit très bruyant, le personnel était pas plus sympa que ça hormis à la piscine et au restaurant de la plage. Le repas était pas incroyable , le rapport qualité / prix pas top ! Je n'apprécie pas que l'on me regarde de haut lorsque j'arrive tout ça parce que j'ai l'audace de voyager en short et baskets surtout quand il fait plus de 30 degré !

Best Hotel in Santa Margherita Ligure! My husband and I came to this sweet little town thirty years ago but could only afford a small room in a pensione. This time we spent five nights at Hotel Metropole. The staff are incredibly sweet and hardworking. The room was spacious and the bed so comfortable (although I had to ask for a fan because of the high heat wave) , the gym and spa were great and I love the ‘beach’ area. You can jump right into the sea and they have pool noodles to use! Breakfast was the same but very good and the staff couldn’t do enough to make you happy. Can’t wait to return!

Good location next to the train line so easy to visit other places as well. Staff were very friendly and the gardens and amenities are very beautiful.

The only option for washing clothes was dry cleaning and there is no laundrymat in town.

My stay at this hotel did not meet the expectations of a 4-star property. I was charged for two days of parking, even though I only used the service for one day. Additionally, at the hotel’s beach, I had to pay 40 euros extra for sun loungers, which was not clearly mentioned at the time of booking.

Otelin konumu güzel ücret karşılığı park imkanı tanınıyor. Otel eski olmasına rağmen odalar temiz ve ferahtı. Kahvaltısı açık büfe temiz ve yeterliydi. Kahvaltının yapıldığı yerin manzarası keyifli. Plaj kenarında olması güzel, otel müşterilerine şemsiye ve şezlong ücretsiz. Otelin spası da çok iyiydi. Odadan plaja giden yolda yürümek çok keyifli, güzel bir peyzajı vardı

Beautiful hotel amazing breakfast. The facilities are excellent...Pool, private hotel spa which u have 1 hour private allocation daily, private beach access and an easy 5 min walk to town. We would definitely stay again.

Nothing great stay.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. It's not a five star hotel but the pool, staff and location are hard to beat. The beds were comfortable the shower was awesome. The cocktails overlooking the beach were awesome. We only stayed one night but I would definitely choose this hotel again. Well worth it!

The good: great location for exploring Santa, Portofino, and Cinque Terre. Housekeeping and breakfast were great. The pool and pool staff are nice but pool is small. The lady at check in was very nice. The spa pool is very cool. The gardens are stunning. The medium: the rest of the desk staff were unhelpful bordering on completely unorganized-charged us twice because they “used the wrong machine.” There’s a sewer smell in the hallways (it’s an old hotel on the shore, I understand this.) The beach platform is not good. The bad: the free beach chairs are awful so you have to pay for loungers. My hat was stolen while we were in the spa pool. I put all my effects in a locker but my hat did not fit. As we were the only guests and it was near closing time, it seemed ok to leave it on the bench by the lockers. When I couldn’t find it and asked the staff person if they had picked it up, she was immediately aggressive that “there was no hat.” Draw your own conclusions as to who stole my hat. We were really disappointed we could only get a room here for 2 of our 5 nights in Santa but it turned out to be a blessing as we also stayed next door at the Helios which was honestly a much nicer experience.
