Provider-sourced guest reviews.
It is a friendly hotel, very popular with older travellers as traditional approach and menu, the public areas are well maintained, other areas would benefit from updating but it is well positioned with great staff which make up for this. Within a couple of days you become part of the family. Bed was really comfy, great views and ease to town
The lift is small and slow so therefore being agile with stairs is important if you want to go up to room regularly, lift is adequate particularly for suitcases etc so don't let that put you off
The hotel was in a great location for our stay
Nothing had everything we needed
The views of the river was outstanding. The hotel is decorated beautifully and has a lot of character.
Nothing.
Nice view
Having a cold shower at night time and report it to front of house told someone will look at it no one did had cold shower in morning
The staff were exceptionally kind and supportive even before I unexpectedly took quite ill and after coming back from hospital they could not have been more understanding or accommodating to my needs, especially John he’s a gem. Also the food was delicious.
Everything was as I asked for, it’s a dated building but with plenty of character. a lot of history and charm.
Peu de chose
C'est un hôtel de gare, très vieillissant, pas très propre etc,
Pleasant surroundings, excellent staff, clean, primo location
Excellent location
Noisy but it was Cowell games.
The location is excellent. The accommodation and, in general, facilities were clean and well appointed. The team was superb!
Some elements of the accommodation are feeling older, like the bathroom and lighting in the bedrooms. Shower was never quite right. Either went too hot or cool; at any time of day we showered.
Very friendly and great location
Very quiet bar area
Good location, close to shops & restaurants
No parking
Comfortable and clean, John very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable
Parking is not good particularly if disabled as no car park and street closed off for event. Lift sounds 100 years old, was not confident it was going to reach its destination
Everything
The mattress was a bit tired
Location was perfect. Staff was friendly.
Bartender was rude when we were trying to find a place to eat.
We had some very good dinners. Lovely views from the dining area.
The bathroom could be updated. A number of floor tiles were badly cracked and the wash basin had cracks too. Although the room was described as having a sea view, the view was restricted by an old building in front of it. It should not really be described as having a sea view.
Perfect location for me near the ferry terminal, and the views over the loch were wonderful. Staff were very friendly and helpful - even found a hairdryer for me. The room was clean, with cosy bedding.
It’s an old building, so not altogether surprising that the floorboards were very creaky (apologies to anyone in the room below mine). The floor sloped too so when you turned over in bed, it felt as if you might roll out! The bed was a bit too soft for me, but it might equally suit others. The bathroom, however, was quite odd. The bath was under the eaves and the shower overhead was surrounded by a curved curtain that was very big and couldn’t be pulled back along the rail. I found it near impossible to get the water temperature right.
Nice big room, big shower, lots of storage, mostly clean.lovely helpful staff. Central to the area.
Squeaky floors, broken shower door, mould and mildew in the shower, needs new mattress, needs updating, could do with an iron and ironing board in the room
Breakfast was good. Staff tried to make things right and kept us informed when we had to change room.
There was mould in the shower cubicle and on the bathroom sink. The toilet did not flush and we had to move room. The flush in the room we got moved to worked but only intermittently. The room window didn't close fully and this caused an unwanted visitor in a large seagull coming in to eat the biscuits (still in the wrapper) on the tea & coffee tray which suggested this wasn't the first time they had done it. We sat the kettle and cups on the window to stop them entering again. We also heard another guests who had a seagull enter their room as they could not close their window either.
Location was ok. Friendly staff, very helpful.
No carpark onsite
Very friendly staff, and good location for the Doon the Water Revival music weekend
The street facing rooms get a lot of noise around 2am as local bars empty, this is no fault of the hotel but worth noting
Location

Room was a bit dated
staff were great food especially breakfast was above standard
nothing , it was all great
Great central location
Bathroom could be modernised
Lovely room with a great view of the river
It was very close to the ferry and the shops. It was a lovely old fashioned hotel.
The lift was a bit slow.
Nice me in the attached Italian restaurant.
Not a dislike, but the room was a bit dated. However it was entirely as expected as we'd stayed here twice before.and for a single night getaway wasn't an issue.
I got a double room, it was easy to find, very clean, really comfortable and had a nice view
Some of the guests were noisy in the morning.
it was nice and clean
nothing

Location for our plans for weekend away
Everything seems a chore for the staff, from arriving when the booking was wrong at their end and receptionist scowled before fixing. The room was very, very dated, not properly cleaned (sticky coffee stains on work surfaces, needed a vacuum as we kept standing on beads clearly from a previous guest). Sheet had hole in, plug socket for kettle dangerously not in wall properly. Headboard broken and hanging off bed. Mattresses etc very much seen better days and past their best, fan in bathroom working when it wanted to but never when needed! Room not serviced during 2 night stay so had to ask for clean towels etc late at night when we returned. Majority of staff gave impression that requests were a nuisance to them. Would however single out young lads on dining duty and lady serving breakfast for their approachable attitudes. Especially gentleman (gave impression of being a duty manager?) who each time we saw him was polite, professional and friendly. Reading other reviews and looking at pictures we had higher expectations from the hotel and certainly wouldn’t recommend to friends or consider trying others in the group
Meals were great and bed comfortable
Shower and bath water was cold no hot water
Location
Some maintenance upgrades required Menu hasn't changed for years Guy at reception needs to smile
Lovely room, was booked at very short notice
Nothing.
It’s in a great location
Tired 80s decor and most definitely now ‘out of date’ style over substance. The bed’s desperately need replacing. The sprung mattresses had very little padding and it was the most uncomfortable of any hotel bed I have tried to sleep on.
Hotels is in an ideal location.
breakfast was ok
Fabulous location
Very central location & staff were lovely. Friendly and helpful without being too much.
If you have a view on to Main Street from your room, it can be very noisy if a weekend, in to the wee small hours.
Room spacious though dated toilet not flushing properly very noisy where hotel is situated
Great turret room.
Lift was broken for 1st day.
Cleanliness
Hotel really needs a refurb
hardly any hot water and very dated/worn throughout
Great location, friendly staff and clean Excellent value for money
Slightly tired looking
Central to amenities.food and bars were good.nice view from room.
Lift was slow.
Arrive Thursday 10 at night kettles not working so they gave me kettle full boiling water maid was good enough to change it went down on Friday for a meal only to be told table wer all booked up as tour had arrived and took over hotel wen I handed my key in on Saturday the receptionist was busy on computer when I complained he was. Rude Icarpeets where dirty so I will never go back there after paying £204 50 very unhappy my son is writing to you regarding this
Fabulous location, iconic hotel!
Nothing at all.
Staff were very helpful and friendly, definitely went the extra mile. Room was modern and clean . Breakfast was superb . Location was excellent being in the middle of town with easy access to all facilities
Hard to say how it could have been improved, will certainly be back .
Very helpful staff and Rio restaurant food was good.
Single room was no larger than a large cupboard with very little space to put anything. Wifi was very poor.
The close proximity to the centre.
Beds were really uncomfortable. The windows didn't open great. No hairdryer or shaver outlet in the bathroom.
All the amenities were excellent, very organised site ,would recommend anyone thinking of visiting.
None
John on reception was very helpful and friendly. Room was adequate for our needs. Location was ideal.
Breakfast was anaemic and unfortunately I sent mine back as cold. Paid for breakfast and expensive piece of toast !!
Location
Very old fashioned and a wee but tatty
The location is excellent as were the staff.
The hotel is a little tired.
Location
Everything about the insides were very old, creaky, old fashioned and we didn’t like the choice for breakfast. Very tasteless food
Het ontbijt
Geen warm water in de douches
I really enjoyed my stay. The staff really ensured we had an incredible time.
The staff
Location
The property needs significant upgrading
locatio
night porter was asleep, couldn't get into the property was waiting ages at night once in the room was freezing, the light didn't work and room was less than comfortable
Trying hard to give service but appear rudderless due to weak management
Did not inspire eating either breakfast or dinner. Management more interested in being in “charge” rather than taking control

The location of this hotel is great . Close to the town centre and a quaint High Street . The room was clean and lovely and warm with good lighting and had a very comfortable bed. We had a sea view and it was a bonus to be able to open the window onto a lovely view of the sea and parts of Dunoon . The total black-out curtains and blinds were very effective. All the staff are friendly and helpful and generally delightful !
The room and bathroom are very small The room felt cluttered with too much furniture. One cupboard with a couple of drawers would be sufficient. The decor is very bland and desperately needs an updating.
Staff where lovely and the food was very good.
No hot water in the morning for shower or wash basin.
Location was ideal and view from room was excellent
Very dated and old. For the price we paid for one night (£112.50) not to include breakfast, was really poor and not value for money
Always stay in this hotel when in Dunoon, its a great location & staff are always so helpful & friendly. Both restaurants in the hotel are excellent, they have great choice of menu's available & food is always amazing, staff always have a smile on their face when serving you.
Its not that I disliked the hotel but the interior of the hotel is a little dated now, it could do with a modern makeover but don't let this put you off, the rooms are always clean & tidy & the beds are fantastic, very comfortable indeed, they have everything you'll need for your stay. You'll always have a great stay in the Argyle Hotel
The staff were excellent very helpful It was clean and comfortable . But a little investment here and there But on the whole pleasant and friendly
It could do with an upgrade and a little investment Its an old hotel so allowances have to be made
Lovely.staff
Good location.
Lovely location freindly
Excellent location near to ferry terminal. Bathroom was modern and room clean.
Nothing
Good location and very nice staff. Italian restaurant was great. The bathroom in our room was super.
Rooms could do with a refresh, there were yellow stains on the ceiling and the wallpaper was peeling off a little bit. The mattress was flat and hard and the pillowcases on the extra pillows had suspicious marks on them so we didn’t use them.
It was clean, comfortable and relaxing.
Die Lage und das freundliche Personal.
Das Hotel ist sehr abgewohnt.
Friendly staff, comfortable room restuarants had good range of food.
Not a breakfast option when booking.
I think the hotel and location were lovely from the outside.
The bedroom decor was awful, filthy mattress, carpet, genuinely in need of improvement and a big transformation ,although really pleasant staff.
