Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Hotel was OK. It seems that the entire area is suffering a decline in tourism. The restaurant tied to the hotel was closed. Parking is problematic. Very tight parking on a gravel area. The good news is that the room and bathroom were very clean.
What a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Staff were all friendly and worked really hard to serve the guests. We booked on a half board basis with picnic lunch through a walking holiday company and the food was excellent. Traditional Swiss breakfast of cold meats and cheese, various breads, rolls and croissants with jams, honey & Nutella, as well as boiled eggs and cereals, yoghurts and fruit. The evening meals were superb, very tasty and well presented. Drinks were quite expensive at the bar, particularly the wine. The guest lounge was well equipped with a free pool table and games. There is a small pool and sauna downstairs but we didn’t get time to use them. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with magnificent views of the mountains. A hairdryer was provided and a coffee machine, but no milk. Would have preferred a kettle and choice of tea or coffee etc. Hotel is in great location to access the train station, bus stops and gondolas and cable cars up to the three different mountains. Highly recommend a stay here. Imagine it would be really cosy in the winter.
Very much a vintage hotel experience. I had an excellent mountain view, which I was able to enjoy from bed every morning. The cleaning crew were efficient and very good. The staff was very helpful with planning alternative hikes. I chose to walk the 800m from the train station, which for me was very doable. However, I am very fit and this may not be an option for everyone. The breakfast buffet was very good. I also had dinner at the hotel restaurant, Nico's, which was excellent. It was my best dining experience in Kandersteg and during my stay in Switzerland. The spa was small, but clean and very relaxing. I highly recommend staying here and would absolutely re-visit if I come back to Switzerland.
A lovely experience in a very well run hotel. Staff were efficient, helpful and they seemed happy- which speaks well of the leadership. The food was excellent ( though my fussy teenager occasionally opted out for pizza.🙄. ) . The rooms were nicely proportioned (though we had a suite with a separate shower and bathroom) and the beds firm. The views magnificent! An excellent base for our walking holiday. I can highly recommend
Staff Service especially Mariam was 10/10
Incredible stay! Amazing place to visit!
The spa at this hotel was fantastic!
Excellent. Great location.
Wonderful people and great accommodations and breakfast.
Nice staff, quaint hotel
The room was not very clean. I dropped my book between the bed and the cabinet and my book was covered in dirt and fluff. We did not use the swimming pool - or should I say plunge pool. The online photo makes it seem like the pool is about 25m long but in fact it is more like 10m! The swimming pool is very dark and dingy and not at all inviting. It's a sham because we chose this hotel because it had a pool. On the plus side, the beds were extremely comfortable and the breakfast was great, a very good selection of muesli and breads. The hotel team were very helpful so I do feel mean giving this review but I do feel a bit tricked into thinking they had a nice pool.
First impression matters, we arrived super early before checkIn time, the front desk was unattended, I called for help and someone showed up with no friendly approach, I stated that I understood that we were early to check in and we wanted to see our options, she seemed annoyed with us, did reminded us that it was too early to check in again. I asked if we leave our bags and she took us to the room where we could leave our luggage until check in. I did not feel welcome at all. The property is nice, clean, comfortable beds and spacious room. The area was very quite for the time we were there, not everything was open, but we enjoyed it that way. Breakfast was good. In general it was a good stay but unfortunately the first impression was not good at all.
Great place
A excellent hotel which is friendly and well run. However it lost points due to some things that can easily put right. The one that would involve cost. Is lack of charger for electric cars. A suprise with Switzerland liable to lose so much due to global warming with nearly the entire railway electrified. a strange omission. Beer is expensive even allowing for Switzerland. For some reason whilst they will fill your flask with hot water you cannot have tea bags and milk for having tea in your room A coffee machine and coffee is provided. Also breakfast has nothing hot. Bacon fried eggs etch. You can also not have a bread roll with cheese and ham as a take away. I'm sure this could be organised as there must by rolls tat are just thrown out. Not even allowed to buy one. Good point rooms are clean with a an excellent evening meal. Lounge is very nice.
Loved this family run hotel! It was very traditional with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. The staff were always friendly and welcoming and the restaurant served very tasty food. And as for the view from the balcony, it was beautiful! The hotel also had a small pool and spa facilities which we took advantage of. Definitely recommend a stay here.
Sehr sauber und freundliche Gastgeber
Nico and his team were excellent in everyway, friendly, helpful and great cooks! The hotel a high standard with an owner manager touch ... clean and well maintained. All round , thank you! One of our team had an accident on the slopes and nothing was to much trouble for the "Seiler's team" in helping us out.
This hotel is a little further away from the train station than the other options, but it's still walkable. Like all the chalet style hotels in Kandersteg, Seiler's Vintage Hotel offers a Swiss environment and feel. (The walk to the gondola up to the lake is about 20 minutes.) The rooms in the front of the hotel offer beautiful views. Rooms in the back do not have balconies. The included breakfast is average (with no hot options). We had dinner at the hotel one night - very expensive. I recommend walking down the main street and checking our other hotels and restaurants for dinner. The rooms were comfortable. I would stay here again.
The single room is very convenient for a short stay and a stay-over on multiday hiking. It is quiet, cosy and bed is comfortable. Buffet breakfast is fantastic! Fresh fruit, bread, cheese… Location is very close to the start of the hike to Oeschinensee and the train station - Totally recommend the stay at Seiler’s vintage hotel
Rooms are comfortable and a good size. No fridge in room. Easy access to town, the train station and the gondola.
Nice sized rooms!
Emplacement parfait pour visiter la région.
This hotel is very welcoming and beautifully appointed. Great location for walking through the village and to the cable car. Food was excellent and the room clean and very comfortable. During our visit a group of musicians arrived to play and sing - this was a lovely treat.
Great views from the hotel’s balconies. Delicious breakfast available every morning.
Really lovely classic Swiss hotel. The staff are super and so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant, Nico’s, has nice food but is quite fussy and not always what you want after a day in the mountains! It would be good if they did some simpler stuff - however there are other options if you walk into town. Would definitely recommend the hotel, and it’s a great base for all the walks in and around Kandersteg, and perfectly located for the x3 cable cars.
Very remote and quiet. Kind staff and clean room. View from the room was amazing.
Beautiful views from room
Lovely family run hotel in a delightful small Swiss village. The owner is the chef at the restaurant, called Nico’s. We had two excellent dinners there. The reception staff are helpful and friendly.
Kundenorientiert, sehr schöne Einrichtungen, freundliches Personal, gute Lage.
at first we got the wrong room without balcony and no view but that was corrected quickly. The room was a bit small for a junior suite. We missed a hair dryer in the bath room. But the location was perfect and the staff very friendly
Hours of operation were limited. When we got into our room, we found five bumblebees flying around the patio door.
One of the most beautiful spots in the world. Wonderful hotel, great food, and so welcoming. We enjoyed playing the piano and singing, and babies and dogs are also welcomed and celebrated.
Wonderful small hotel with a surprisingly great spa! Amazing view. We got upgraded for free. The breakfast was copious and delicious. The staff was friendly. I just wish there was less single use items: small soap/shampoo bottles, slippers, etc.
Sehr schönen innen dekoration, Sehr Saubere Zimmer!
Wifi is stabiel.
Guter Service. Herrvorragendes Restaurant und Morgenessen (Buffet)
We stay one night. Fortunately was the superior room with balcony. The views were superb, but that was all. Tiny room, no space for the lugagge and small bathroom; you have to bend the head when crossing the door of the bathroom or when having a shower. Very old furnitures. We will not come back.
Das Personal war überaus freundlich und hilfsbereit.
Great service both at hotel and restaurant. Spacious, clean, tasteful room with great view. Some noise from the street Monday morning. Location very convenient for hikes and excursions around.
We added a stay in Kandersteg at the last minute and happened upon the hotel thru Hotels.com. It was an amazing hidden gem. The staff was very knowledgeable of the area and helpful. The restaurant serves us the best meal, a five course dining experience, we had in 12 days in France and Switzerland. The breakfast buffet was priced reasonable and had great offerings. And they provided the makings to create your own sandwiches for your hike or excursion for the day! The only negative I can add is the room is slightly dated. But still very roomy.
The pride of ownership was evident during our stay at this beautiful property. We were warmly greeted and provided recommendations of what to do in the area upon arrival. We also received a beautiful upgrade that was unexpected but welcomed of course....I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a cozy and historic place to stay in Kandersteg! (Bonus: it is a very close walk to the cable car that takes you close to the alp summit. The hotel offers free passes for guests which saves at least 30 francs per adult.)
Very clean nice location with friendly service and this hotel have free pass to local cable car
We only stayed 1 nite in the least expensive "double" room, which was comfortable but quite small with a tiny "corner" shower. The hotel staff are very good and helped with information on mountain activities. Did not eat any meals. The hotel is in an ideal location. You can easily walk to the gondola or into town for shopping or restaurants. There is a lot to do and see in Kandersteg and wish we could have stayed for 2 more nights.
Amazing place we booked very last minute. It has an old style hotel charm about it, and the staff were so helpful. We loved the restaurant food, and our room was comfy and clean. Would highly recommend to anyone and hope to be back myself.
Excellent!
The hotel is amazing. Location is great. Our view was fantastic. Only drawback, the internet did not work in our room.
It is in a fantastic location- very close to the lift that takes you to the stunning mountain lake and beautiful hiking in summer and winter. It also has a wonderful restaurant. Short walk from the train station and right next to the Bus stop. We usually stay here on our visits.
Alfa Soleil was lovely. I found the rooms really pleasant and everything perfectly clean. The staff were warm and helpful, and the town itself lovely.
This was a very quaint chalet-hotel located in Kandersteg. They will provide a shuttle to and from the train station but it is within walking distance if you do not have multiple bags. The gondola to Oeschinen is also within walking distance. The people are very friendly and there is a restaurant on site. The view from my room was amazing! I definitely recommend you stay here. I will book herevagain when I return.
The hotel was a good value for money. Has an excellent view of the valley and waterfall. The host has received me well and was eager to provide all the info I needed
Nice hotel in picturesque spot on main street of Kandersteg with onsite parking. Staff was very friendly. A big bonus was the free hiking pass that gives hotel guests access to the cable cars/buses in the areas--saved me quite a few euros not to have to purchase lift tickets.
Very nice hotel. Beautiful location. Very very friendly and cooperative staff. Thanks Alfa Soleil
We stayed for night on a weekend getaway. Check-in was very smooth and we got lots of great information. Special kudos to the included gondola passes- we used them 2x and for a family of 4, we saved a lot! Room was roomy and very pleasant with a nice patio to enjoy a drink on after a day of hiking. Highly recommend the hotel and the area!
Amazingly wonderful staff (check in over a cup of tea, transfers to the train station, mailing my left behind jacket to my next hotel, personalized hiking plans). Safe, quiet location with great view of the mountains from our balcony. We had a junior suite with comfortable bed and very modern bathroom and spacious anteroom. We upgraded to the breakfast which was superior to our other European hotels. Dinner was outstanding; more of a fine dining experience but without the stuffy atmosphere. Excellent Swiss wine by the glass, delicious food; prices were comparable to our other dining experiences, portions were so good-we had to cancel our desert. They have their own garden next door for truly farm to table cuisine; my gazpacho was the best ever. Alpine hiking and the Swiss people are the highlight of our monthlong European vacation, and this hotel experience is the best of all.
Great location. Attentive staff. Good restaurant. Infested with flies. Room, a junior suite, was a bit dark.
The hotel was overbooked, but they put us up in an apartment-style room with a porch and jacuzzi, service was excellent.
Comfortable hotel nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Nothing not to love... except the thin walls that come along with an ancient hotel but that is par for the course.
This family run hotel makes you feel welcome right from the start. Peter provides you with great information and all of his staff are very helpful. The town of Kandersteg is beautiful and makes you feel really relaxed. Our room looks across green fields straight into the mountains, what a sight to see in the morning. The meals are really top quality and they have a great wine selection. Overall a top spot from which to do your daily walks with plenty of advice at hand to help you get the best out of your stay.
Perfect location, staff friendly and informative, food excellent.
Lovely cosy place, incredible dinner but breakfast could have been nicer. Location couldn't have been more beautiful. Service was great
Fantastic view from the rooms at the front, great food (cater for food allergies very well) and personal/ friendly staff really made you feel like part of the family. easy parking and good wifi, would def return!
This was a perfect place to stay in Kandersteg. The staff was very focused on our comfort and very warm and welcoming.
Stayed for two nights at the Alfa Soleil and can't recommend it enough. From the initial welcome, free upgrade to suite room, lift to the train station on departure and the great and helpful staff, just doesn't get more welcoming than that.
