Location was great
Lack of parking meant a lot of walking to carry bags
The lady serving breakfast was very odd.
The lady serving breakfast
I loved this hotel and how it was so close to the seafront. Staff were extremely friendly and check in very easy. It's an old hotel with a lot of character! My room was extremely clean and well equipped, the shower was great, and the bed was very comfy. I stayed in room 'Greville' and I do just want people with mobility restrictions to be aware there is a big step to get into the shower in this particular room. I would recommend informing the hotel of guests with mobility restrictions when booking so the hotel can make the necessary accommodations if possible. I did not eat here so cannot comment on food but had a drink in a bar downstairs and felt very welcomed and the staff were very friendly and polite. It was a very comfortable stay. As it is on the sea front it is close to various restaurants and bars but there is also an onsite restaurant and although I did not eat here myself, it is great if you do not want to venture out too far. If you are visiting Deal I highly recommend staying here!
Handy for a golf trip
Appeared v expensive
Location. Fronting the Beach.
Shower gap, slight water sipping on the floor. Flash Handle of the toilet too tight-not flushing well. Overall the toilet is clean. Family room needs painting specially the ceiling.
Lovely airy room (sea view next time!) Very comfy. Nice bathroom. Really friendly staff. Breakfast was great. Pints over looking the sea. Really great.
Parking included would have been good.
The location is outstanding, the staff warm and helpful , the coffee machine in the bedroom a welcome touch
The room only had one socket that took a charging cable and parking was a challenge.
Very tired looking bed comfy pillows horrendous! Very downmarket
Very shabby room dull and needs decoration not for £300 a night I stay at much better this is dowdy in comparison!!!
We were comfortable and fed well!
L’emplacement
Personnel désagréable, hôtel vétuste, à rénover en urgence
Excellent position , good food and attentive staff.
Room was great but disturbed sleep due to rattling windows from the wind and traffic noise.
Location. Views. Some of the breakfast, worst poached eggs ever and poor cleanliness of cups(hair in the cup). Looked like pet hair. Dusty saucer. Wanted to eat evening meal in the restaurant. Price point indicates table service, however, due to 'staff shortage' asked to order at the bar. We went elsewhere. Noisy dog heard in our room and doggy smell in reception. Leaving the hotel, we were met by 4 or 5 workers sitting on the stairs and landing below, on their phones. Uncomfortable as appears couldn't waot to get rid of us. Mix of good and bad. Husband wants to revisit, i love the location amd the history of the hotel, so would revisit, knowing what to look out for.
See above. Smelly noisy dogs and some cleanliness issues. Awful poached eggs. Would visit again, knowing what to avoid.
Spacious room amd comfortable bed. Great location on the sea front, and parking was possible in the adjoining public car park. Really excellent breakfast with wide choice on the menu. The historic building is charmingly quirky, but the downside is no air conditioning - not ideal in a heatwave!
The Nespresso coffee machine in the room was very welcome, but strangely no milk products were provided. Perhaps just an oversight?
Tutto.
Nulla
Location, character, staff esp in bar area
Lift out of use. Stairs challenging for an oldie… quick repair should be priority.
Location
Not clean and building interior in desperate need of refurbishing.
Great breakfast, good staff and VERY close to the sea.
The lift not working did add an issue, as we were on the top floor.
Brilliant location. Friendly staff. Spacious bedroom/bathroom Lovely breakfast. Good outdoor space.
N/A
Lovely big room. Friendly helpful staff. View of the pier . Very comfortable stay.
The early morning traffic and bin men . The hotel is on a busy road so traffic noise is to be expected and the bins need emptying. Unfortunately the lift was out of order .
We stayed for 2 nights. The family room was clean and spacious. We were not in a sea facing room and unfortunately there was a lot of noise from the road. One of the windows in the room didn’t close properly which made it worse although it cooled the room down during the night. For breakfast on the first morning I ordered pancakes with fruit and Greek yogurt but when it arrived there was no yogurt on it. I asked the waitress why there was no yogurt on and she told me quite abruptly it didn’t come with yogurt. I looked at the menu after breakfast and showed it to another staff member who confirmed it did come with yogurt. We had dinner in the restaurant that evening and I ordered Lobster Thermidor which was over cooked and tough. Breakfast the next day was good and there was yogurt. All other staff members were pleasant and helpful.
Location on the seafront was ideal and the service at breakfast was excellent. Reception was friendly and helpful.
Room was very small and had very limited hanging space and storage for clothes. The toilet paper was the flimsiest ever and the toilet seat was thin and unstable.
It’s an iconic hotel, a landmark in Deal. Prime position and bags of old school charm.
Nothing really. The only thing that made me laugh a bit was the rather minimalist breakfast buffet. But the breakfast menu made up for it.
Great location. Good breakfast included and a good room with a view of the pier.
Car parking was costly but I accept it’s hardly the hotels issue, just a shame there’s no allocated parking but not the end of the world.
Great hotel, fab location, big clean rooms, welcoming staff, lovely food. All was well until 6am Tuesday morning. Then all hell breaks loose. At 6am Shepherd Neame's business waste contractor turns up. The hotel has a number of regular wheelie bins and six giant green commercial waste bins stored along the side of the hotel. Without a care for those around the contractor wheels to a magnificent thunder all these bins out across the end of the hotel, over the pavement to the pavement to their truck, when you then get the moan of machinery's hydraulics and clatter of all the bins being emptied one after another before the thunderous wheeling of them back into store. It is way way more than enough to wake the dead, particularly on a warm night. Just to rub it in further the contractor's operatives think it is fine to be yelling to each other over the noise of the machinery and bins. How the neighbours cope with this week on week I do not know. It is so inconsiderate. I would not want to live nearby. If Shepherd Neame had any sense, for all their locations they would put in a clause in their waste contract forbidding the bins to be emptied between 9.30pm and 7.30 am. I know the road is busy in the day but the bins could easily be emptied early evening. 9/10ths of a fantastic stay wrecked by one stupid and inconsiderate contractor.
Great location and lovely room with a sea view. Lots of history, too.
We stayed at the Royal Hotel over the weekend and I couldn't have asked for more. Room was incredibly spacious, clean and perfect for a weekend with children by the sea. We had dinner in the pub in the evening and the kids absolutely loved their meal and then breakfast in the morning was great. Highly recommend and will stay again.
The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The position is excellent. The full english is very good. The decor is a bit tired but it adds to the charm. It has no car park belonging to the hotel and cost £12 a day to park in a public space if you can find one.
No car park.
Location. Staff. Room size ,
Dried flowers on restaurant tables, a single fresh flower would be more stylish
Lovely room very bright and roomy
Shower bath
Can only reinforce the majority of reviews, great place to stay right on the beach in the heart of the town. My only criticism is that our room whilst clean and habitable was looking a little tired and in need of some TLC
Location
Bath in the room but no bath toiletries. Thought room was over priced.
Great room and great location . Staff and breakfast very nice
Visited the Royal Hotel for the first time since Valentine’s Day. Whilst our previous visit was during the day, this time it was early evening and the first time since the Royal kitchen refurbishment. I have to say my wife and I were very impressed by the menu options available. The food was delicious and lovely & hot. We thought the food quality had improved and really liked the new menu. The desserts were really tasty and of a really high standard. Beautifully prepared. The Royal certainly seems to have upped its game on the food front and would definitely recommend.
Friendly staff and close to the sea. Wonderful breakfast
Excellent location, beautiful spot on the seafront. Couldn’t have asked for a better location. The breakfast was really lovely. We were blessed with wonderful weather so had our breakfast out on the terrace. All the staff we came across were really nice and helpful. The rooms were comfy. It is a nice, old-fashioned hotel. Would definitely return.
Can’t think of anything!
Very modern, spacious, extremely clean family room with double bed and 2 single beds - pet friendly. Comfy beds, plenty of room, good tea/coffee selection. Huge bathroom with 2 sinks and bath/shower. Hotel is right on the beach - super breakfast - we loved it!
One small thing - shower over bath was a mixer shower so you have to get the temp right yourself, and the shower itself ran very slow. Do not let this one small thing put you off still gave this hotel a 9 outa 10
Great location and yet peaceful at night. Room size was good. Lots of nice touches in the room.
The rooms, restaurant and lovely helpful staff. Large comfortable rooms. Good choice of food in the restaurant
Nothing
Quaint - lovely, what I wanted
The shower was in need of repair and the room was hot but honestly, not a grumble
Position was what I wanted...near beach and town
Useless shower as didn't use bath and shower kept collapsing. Sharp edges to all surfaces of cupboards.
Amazing location, we could hear the sea from our room. The staff were friendly and helpful.
We needed to stay an extra night in Deal and The Royal Hotel was a great option. Though it was quite unexpected, we were given an upgrade to a balcony room, which had a great view and a claw foot tub in addition to the large bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable and the balcony was great for eating and watching the world go by. The included breakfast, served in our room, was spectacular. We now intend to make a balcony room at the Royal our first choice the next time we go to Deal.
Nothing
I loved the history of the hotel and that they have kept the original character of the rooms in any modernization. The location could not be better, right on the sea front with the middle of town less than 1 minute away.
I couldn’t find any controls for the heating.
Great location, iconic hotel, welcoming staff, really positive and second stay with you in a month. Will definitely be back to stay again, thank you.
The hotel is big but feels welcoming and has an old fashioned atmosphere. It does have modern facilities though. The tea and coffee in the room was lovely with the addition of a nespresso machine too. Our room was spacious with an adapted bathroom, having drop down seat in the walk in shower and rails at the toilet. The free standing bath looked beautiful, and while we are unable to use a bath, I imagined it would be lovely to use. The dining areas are nice, food was good. Breakfast especially nice, cold buffet great and cooled breakfast to order. Enjoyed a night away from home to celebrate our anniversary.
I had a problem with the ringgo parking app. In no way the fault of the hotel but that's the only thing that annoyed me. I did get it fixed though, so all ok.
Wir waren in jeder Hinsicht sehr zufrieden.
Wir waren in jeder Hinsicht sehr zufrieden.
Exceptional view from the balcony. Having breakfast there was special.
Light coming in. No curtain blocking out light to the window by the room door.
I enjoyed my stay at the Royal hotel very much. The location was absolutely beautiful, the room was perfect and the staff were really lovely and very helpful
In the description of the room it stated there was a alarm clock and a iron and ironing board, both of these were not available. The bathroom was excellent but the shower was not very efficient at all
Great location, parking options and great breakfast
Location was perfect
It would be nice to have a little fridge in the room to keep milk and water cool
Really great staff.
A bit loud, room was right over a busy road.
Location
Some staff were a little rude
Great location and a lovely old world feel to the building.
Checking in and out was tricky. Reception wasn’t always manned which made it difficult if you were pushed for time. Wouldn’t stop me coming back though!
Nice location, big rooms & friendly staff
Below standard breakfast. Not like the pictures online.
We had a ‘superior room’ which was very spacious and beautifully furnished.
The bathroom was very large with a free standing bath plus separate shower but lacked storage space for personal toiletries. There was certainly plenty of room for bathroom storage but sadly I find this is something that is lacking in a lot of hotels.
We have stayed before and just love the view. Just a little disappointed with difference in balancing rooms and not having two chairs to sit inside with when you are a couple.
THE MANAGER WAS INCREDIBLY HELPFUL - HE PAID OUR PARKING AS NO ONE COULD GET THE PARKING MACHINE TO WORK! DESERVES A BIG COMPLIMENT. ALL STAFF VERY HELPFUL, ALWAYS SMILING.
DECOR ETC IN NEED OF MAINTENANCE, BUT THIS IS AN OLD BUILDING AND UNAVOIDABLE - HENCE THIS NOT A "DIDN'T LIKE" BUT JUST A COMMENT.
The location is superb- you can walk everywhere - to the beach, pier, shops, castle, MOMI museum. Our room was very large, well appointed and comfortable with 2 arm chairs and a very large bed. The hotel is very old and full of character. In every room there is a little folder with information on the historical figures who have stayed/visited after whom the rooms are named. Breakfast was delicious with an excellent menu. We also ate an evening meal in the restaurant which was also excellent. The staff were all welcoming and friendly.
It is a shame there isn't a relationship 'deal' with the carpark - it would be easier for guests.
Beautiful room with fabulous view, lovely staff.
On the beach front. Good size room.
Traffic noise from the road. Cold in the bar area when having dinner.
In the 25 plus years I’ve been a regular here I’ve never experienced such a miserable manager. Definitely not a people person .. yet to see a warm smile on her face
Great location. Staff were very friendly and helpful
The property is old but nice and obviously needs updating here and there.
The room I stayed in the window kept rattling all night and kept me awake. The windows obviously need updating.
Location, property, facilities and staff
They ran out of roasts too early!
Great sized room, massive bed with dual aspect windows and sea views. Comfy bed, good hot drinks facilities. Comfortable ensuite. Lovely breakfasts with a good mix of options. Friendly, helpful staff. Accommodated keeping our dog's specialist food in their fridge too. Nice, dog-friendly establiment. Lovely stay!
Nothing.
The views and the openess to take our dog
We paid £380 for 2 nights and we had to pay an extra £25 for parking which is not very good in my view
It a very old quirky hotel that’s apparently haunted. I find it hit and miss. This time my room was lovely. It does need some TLC and I find the bar / restaurant a bit soulless. The food is typical pub food. Slightly over priced. The desserts were a silly price. Location is fabulous but you pay for parking
Great location A very quirky old hotel
The rooms vary hugely. This one was lovely. It’s a bit old fashioned and not always in a good way
The comfy bed, views of the sea and it was good to have nice chairs and a table as well as a bed. Very filling breakfast with plenty of choices too.
Can't think of anything I didn't like except that we had to pay to park.
Love room , welcoming, breakfast. No faults. Great
Location, great honest food, great staff , comfortable rooms and comfy beds
Lovely location right on the beach nice breakfast and a coffee machine in the room. Stunning views across the channel from the bedroom window and balcony
Balcony could do with an update as could the decor. Stains on the carpet and ceiling
Character of premises. Staff efficient and friendly. Comfortable rooms. Convenient parking
Building a little tired and in need of refurbishment.
Location and Nelson Suite
A bit rundown in places but it’s an old building
Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Had a problem with no hot water in my shower, they allowed me to use another room to shower in. When the problem couldn't be fixed they upgraded us to a balcony room. Service was impeccable. Breakfast was wonderful with a great choice of options.
There was nothing not to like.
Lovely restaurant with excellent food. Both dinner and breakfast. Spacious, comfortable bedroom.
Very windy when we stayed so extractor fan in bathroom rattled.
Super location and comfortable accommodation with a superb breakfast.
Fantastic location and lovely spacious rooms with amazing sea views
NA
Balcony room was amazing . Woke up to the sound of the sea Staff very friendly and welcoming
Breakfast was the only disappointment compared to previous stays.
A fantastic location with a lovely view of the channel and beach. we had a room with a balcony and had breakfast on it. And my wife & I had an enjoyable meal.
No complaints
Very helpful staff and lovely location
A lot of stairs but to be expected in old building
Roll top bath and breakfast in our room
It was a bit expensive for one night
We have stayed here before and the location is excellent.
We have stayed in the other two balcony rooms before. This time we were in the middle room and it was smaller ….. and only one comfy chair to sit on. Other person had to sit on the bed.
Exceptional hotel, admittedly obviously quite old, but that gives it it's charm. Great staff, proper 'roomy ' rooms, elegant decor, good food, and fantastic location on the beach.
