Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Really good location. The room was clean and tidy, and had a good choice of complimentary items such as bottled water, tea and coffee.
It would have been better to have some local parking close to the hotel. The noise from the outside bar area was too noisy too late into the night
room and location were great .
Rated RAC 4 star so a cut above the usual pub. Nicely furnished room. I enjoyed the biscuits they provided. Excellent breakfast.
One of the best hotels I stayed in this trip. In common with most British country hotels no aircon or mini bar.
Room good. Breakfast fine. Evening meal very good, at a reasonable price.
Nothing
Lovely room, food and hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
No car parking, the council run car park at the back of the hotel app didn't work, however the hotel came to my rescue. Thank you Bruce
Wonderful staff, very comfortable bed, excellent breakfast
Through no fault of their own the water was turned off but they gave us free bottles of water
Charming character building, comforting bed, spacious room, excellent customer service and lovely food. If I’m visiting the area again I will definitely stay again
Nothing not to like
Perfect for what i was looking for 🙌 reception lady was great, room spot on and parking was well priced and easy to access
Beautiful and very clean.
The staff was incredibly friendly and has made our stay such a fantastic experience. They really exceeded all expectations. The food at the restaurant was also great. My sister and I have some allergies which they were able to accommodate, and they were also really nice about it, and didn't make us feel bad for having to ask for accommodations. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and to help us enjoy our stay, and we appreciate them so much!
Central to all amenities. Very comfortable and quiet.
Parking is now payable in the station car park. Very reasonable but can only obtain this by using the parking app. Not everyone has a smart phone! Would be helpful if the hotel had something in place with the council.
Friendly staff, well fitted rooms, nice decor, comfortable beds, lovely to have a bath in the bathroom, couldn’t be more central in the town if it tried!
A warm room but we had a fan provided which helped. A shame to have an AC unit fitted that did not work. Not a fault of the hotel but FYI to future guests - there are no taxi services whatsoever in Hungerford so expect high fares as taxis have to come from Newbury.
For this visit it was location
Clean
Beautiful decor and immaculately clean. Centrally located with delicious food.
Loved everything. My husband’s only complaint was the lack of real ale options.
Clean, welcoming and friendly.
Bit noisy at night.
Location Very friendly and amenable staff - felt like a family run business
In parts a bit creaky but that’s the charm of an old hotel
The deputy manager very helpful and changed my room as first room not acceptable. Some of the waiting staff pleasant.
Frosty receptionist on arrival and departure. 1st room offered not up to coaching inn standard. Outside seating area to rear was horrible. £9 glass of Rose was warm. Both our breakfast poached eggs hard. Buffet disappointing with a communal bowl of butter that everyone had to dip into (???) and no marmalade (,???) Self help toast never our favourite and only one side of the 4 slice domestic toaster worked....?
The staff, the pub, the atmosphere, the location weten all great
The room was small, noisy with airco's from other rooms humming just outside the window.
Location and layout
I like a dedicated car park not a public one
Location and cleanliness
The room was hot during the night with only a small fan and a window that only opened 6 inches at the bottom. If you need to restrict the opening to 6 inches then also do the same at the top to aid air flow. At breakfast I had to ask for bread to toast and butter, when it was brought out multiple times in small quantities even though it’s was early and I was one of the first people down. I also had to call the waitress over after waiting 15 minutes to order our breakfast.
Lovely room and location. We were staying with 2 dogs and were made most welcome. We didn't have breakfast but dinner was very good. It was during a very hot period and although we were given a fan, the room was still uncomfortable at times, but this was not the fault of the hotel.
Parking is accross the road - it wasn't a problem for us, but could be for some.
Great location and has all that is needed. Breakfast is also okay (and not much choice in town).
The rooms face the courtyard and it can be noisy if the windows are open and you’re an early sleeper
This is a remarkable place to stay, with a cosy, old-world charm, super efficient and friendly staff, great coffee and nice breakfasts. We stayed in the suite at the top which is only a short stair climb but might as well in another world with its painted flower ceiling and substantial bathroom. Had a great bath there, early on Saturday morning, as the sun rose over the town, listening to Keith Richards on an audiobook, talking about making music.
Fabulous stay

The hotel has character. The staff were all friendly and the male receptionist particular helpful. Although no parking at property is was only a few minutes walk. The bedroom was quaint, clean and comfortable. If I’m in the area, I’ll definitely rebook at this hotel. Also are in the garden, pie if the day. Really enjoyable food. The Three Swans we going to be exceptional in every aspect.
Central location for my visit to family and hotel was clean, friendly staff and could not accommodate better to your needs.
Stayed here for our 4th visit over the weekend. Had a fabulous time, staff ever so friendly and hard working , big shout out to Bruce the manager who was amazing and worked just as hard as the other staff. Lovely room (102) and we loved the food . Lovely clean hotel , we will return. Thank you.

Staff very helpful, breakfasts good restaurant menu varied and reasonably priced
The room was very hot although a fan provided could not open a window. Although there was a bath was only able to use for showers as plug mechanism broken
Location and cleanliness
Far too hot and a bit noisy
Dankeschön
Staff was very helpful and friendly
Overall it was ok, but the brunch was extremely expensive for what we got.
Location
Having tissue packs as holders for the semi-opens windows, and having to sleep with the fan on while another continuous noise was made im the building somewhere throughout the whole night. Also for breakfast no Gluten free option not any healthy alternative. For those that don’t eat any meat nor any replacement, basically you have fried eggs, poached eggs or scrambled eggs, half tomato and a backed mushroom option as breakfast- very poor for the money paid
Amazing team, they made our stay great. Room very comfortable and food very good.
Nothing
Staff were the mist helpful and friendly ever. Feels like they are all invested in making the stay as welcoming and pleasant as they can. Respectful, attentive and positive from one and all. The bathroom was epic with huge space, huge shower and huge bath in the middle, the.bedroom cosy and comfy
The only thing which frankly would be a real problem was the good old British Weather being very hot the room on the top flor was very hot. They staff had recognised this before our arrival and put a fan in the room but still it was very hot. An old english hotel cannot have AC so fully understand that the best availble was put in place. Perhaps opening another window to get airflow through the whole suite could be an option?
The hotel is in a great location. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Our room was in the newer annexe in the courtyard.
Nothing
Room comfortable and clean. Staff very helpful and friendly especially waitresses who made great fuss of our dog and also spent time helping us with problem downloading new parking system. Good breakfast. This is our third time there and is our go to hotel in Berkshire whilst visiting friends in the area. Thankyou again to frendly and helpful staff.
Central to the town
When we visited there was a heatwave and the bedrooms were very warm.?
I loved everything about this hotel and if I'm ever in the vicinity again, I will absolutely book it again! We arrived to the hotel after midnight, tired, dirty, and cranky, and within an hour we were fully recovered and happy again in a beautifully decorated, comfortable bedroom. Very welcoming staff, and genuinely homey atmosphere. Highly recommend!
That I couldn't stay there longer!
Lovely and clean. Amazing staff so helpful and accommodating of my little one. The room was really nice with a big bathroom
Old traditional pub with pleasant staff.
1 room in outbuilding was very hot with no fan. Air con at Costa coffee next door helped. Short of facilities in the room.
The staff were excellent, the room was as expected.
The entrance, stairs and corridor didn't smell great although the room was fine. The fan in the room wasn’t very good but at least one was provided.
Trevligt hotell med pub och bra mat. Bra frukost
Location Rooms
V hot
Location was perfect for exploring the area with most thinks within one hours drive. Breakfast was good value with basis at eight pound and full at thirteen. Room was large although ours in the older section had a low ceiling.
The rooms are not designed for hot nights; the supplied fan was adequate though small windows hindered any breeze. Parking arrangements are not clear on the website, there is Council parking out the back at a cost, you need to access this via an app.
Location and night manager
Expensive
The bedroom was hot and noisy. There was a mechanical noise all night which kept us awake.
Enjoyed spending time with friends in the outside seating area on Tuesday afternoon. Good service at Breakfast, Tracey’s friendly and professional approach is always welcome.
The lock on Room 302 is a little worn and sticks. There is no additional security lock on this door which opens directly onto the courtyard/seating area.
Prima verblijf.

There was all the extras in the room that you may have needed Breakfast offered a good choice Had one evening meal which was good
A twin bedded room had been booked but a king size was available instead. This could have been very inconvenient but we managed, We also had three other standard double rooms. There were problems with the water supply to the en-suite rooms in the extended building. This was apparently an issue with West Berkshire.. water company? The flow of water was poor and cold , (13th, 14th June)
Stayed three nights this weekend, good food, very large and well appointed bathroom and bedroom, excellent service. The staff were friendly, efficient and accommodating. I left behind my charging equipment, telephoned when I got home and they were delivered by Royal Mail at 9.30 the following morning - superb service. Well done Bruce and your team
Old school. Someone to welcome me. None of this keyless entry- old fashioned! Loved it. Delicious dinner !
Everything food ,staff and accommodation all top notch
Only stayed 1 night
All of it. Great room with very comfortable bed. Great shower and bath. Dinner excellent. The menu has plenty of gluten free meals which is very rare. Great staff, all very jolly and helpful. Terrific location with easy access to all facilities
Nothing really. One minor issue was dealt with rapidly and with a smile
Fab location. Beautiful village and lots of cheap on street parking available.

Beautiful property and lovely room.
My husband and I went to the swan on 1st may, the weather was nice so we sat in the beer garden and ordered drinks and breakfast via the QR code on our table. Our drinks came out straight away and we were just chatting and waiting for food, I then ordered a second drink and again it was bought out straight away, it was then that I realised that 35 minutes had passed and our food still hadn’t appeared so I asked the staff member if they could check on our order. The staff member, Tracy, went to check with the kitchen and then came out and said that there was no food on our order, she then said that there was an issue with the QR codes and that they should have been deactivated. She then went to take our order but due to how long we had waited we decided that we didn’t want to wait any longer so asked if she could refund the food. She went away for a while and then came back and said that she’d done it, she gave us a card with contact details and her name on to call if there was an issue and said that the process can take a few days which was fine and we left. I waited a week due to it being a weekend and a bank holiday but there was still no refund in my bank account so I tried to call tracy, I got a colleague of hers and when I asked to speak to her, she was there, the colleague put the phone to the side but didn’t put me on hold so I heard the conversation. Tracy advised that there had been “some issue with a QR code but that was it” when asked by her colleague about the issue. Her colleague then came back to me on the phone and said that Tracy had finished for the day and asked me to explain what had happened. This was unacceptable, I did not appreciate being lied to and was disappointed that tracy couldn’t be bothered to talk to me about the issue that she had been involved with. The colleague told me that she couldn’t help but that she would pass my details to Bruce who would be in the next day and would call in the morning to resolve the issue. The morning came and went and I’d received no call so I called the pub, I tried three times and got an automated message on the general option stating that there was no one available to take my call so I called back and selected the reservation option and Bruce answered the phone straight away! He said that he hadn’t called as he had no information for me but he hadn’t taken any details from me. I advised that I would have appreciated a call just so that I knew that my number had been passed to him and that he was looking into it. He assured me that he was in contact with IT and would sort the issue soon. After toing and froing and promises of contact and my refund would be in my account within 2/3 days which was rubbish, I finally got my refund on 28th May. My refund took 27 days to process and I had to keep chasing for information which is extremely disappointing. I was offered a free meal for my troubles but I will not be going to this establishment ever again, free or otherwise!
The property was clean and the character of the Old building looked lovely highly recommend recommended And the food was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend the food friendly staff were very helpful.
Clean tidy good location all staff very helpful nothing to much trouble
Nothing
Friendly warm welcome. Lovely location and room. Had everything i needed and was comfortable.
Unfortunately coffee machine didn't work.
Great pub/ hotel. Hannah, I assume the manager, was simply delightful from the moment I entered. A true asset to the business. Food was excellent. Rooms were also lovely and I believe very good value. All the staff were excellent and a lovely vibe. Will definitely return when in area.
Large room, plenty of space.
Passive aggressive reception staff on arrival, most unhelpful!
Staff were amazing,i So friendly, welcoming and helpful.Room was co.fortable and the food was lovely.Great smelling shower stuff !! Bed was comfy..
Nothing.
Not a good experience upon arrival, we were told ‘we could not check in until 3pm, which was fine as we only wanted to enquire about parking. We were told that there was ‘no hotel parking’ but to park in station parking or on road parking. When we were able to check in there were not enough towels in the room and l was unable to lock the door. Not a good experience and would not recommend
We had such a lovely afternoon tea experience and couldn’t fault a thing. There was a small mix-up with the number of people booked, but thanks to Bruce’s professionalism and friendly approach, this was quickly sorted without any fuss. Bruce truly made our visit special — he was an absolute delight throughout. Always smiling, attentive, and engaging not just with us but with the children too, which was such a thoughtful touch. His warm and welcoming manner really stood out and added to the whole experience. Overall, we had an amazing afternoon tea and left feeling very well looked after. Thank you for such a memorable afternoon!
The room was pretty okay, though one window had a major rattle that kept us up. (Don’t book 101).. And getting up there involved a lot of stairs and fire doors— kind of crazy. We appreciated having the square footage to maneuver, and the location in town was nice for going to the supermarket.
Great location, nice room excellent value for money .
Nice modern room
Nothing
Location.
Needed a fan in summer!
Safe and secure for our bikes on a cycling trip.
We were billed for drinks we didn’t order and many of the main dishes were unavailable. No apology given.
Bed was comfy and staff did their best to ensure a pleasant stay and were attentive
Room was very very small. It was a warm evening , no air conditioning but a small desktop fan to cool the room. The room was uncomfortably hot to sleep in and when the window was slightly open, it let in midges. The view from the bedroom was unsatisfactory. Biggest issues were room very expensive for its size and because it was so small it was very hot to sleep in.
The kitchen served great meals. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful.
The room was very hot due to the Inn being unable to install air conditioning or awnings or reflective film to counter the heat.
Hungerford is lovely town The staff were polite Good value
Very hot room..like 30 degrees...and no air. Its a heat trap. To their credit they gave us a fan..which was not very effective
Rooms were beautifully set up; nice furniture and excellent beds.
Food needs attention
Location. Lovely room
Some noise from people drinking in the courtyard at night
Good location and value for money.
The hotel is really nice, great staff (especially the one who checked us in and found us the extra fan - life saver) and good location
Mattress had broken springs so was very uncomfortable and both woke up with bad backs. When we told them in the morning got a great that’s awesome thanks, we can get that looked at. No sorry, and we had to pay £7.60 for 2 lattes, would have expected to be like sorry for the mattress, we’ll look at it and these are on us or something.
All great especially the friendly staff treated like royalty
Nothing all good
Excellent location. Very friendly staff. Comfortable room although very warm due to the exceptional weather.
First breakfast appeared to be just one member of staff on duty. He coped very well but we felt for him, having to rush everywhere and keep the buffet restocked. No hotel parking but nearby train station is very convenient and especially simple if you have the relevant parking app
Location
Understaffed
Great position, atmosphere and staff
Room great Staff fantastic Breakfast could be better
Breakfast, most of it was gone when we came down and not replaces
really pleasant and helpful staff
all was fine for the price
Booked same day, so phoned ahead to check they accepted dogs. They do - they even allow dogs on the beds and in the shower! Bingo. Most of the staff seemed to have spaniels (like us) so we were made super welcome. I honestly can’t remember a hotel with such great customer service. The staff were absolutely lovely and extremely professional. Our room was so clean and well presented. Great furniture, the bed was super comfortable and the linen smelled beautiful. I wouldn’t stay above the bar area on a busy night, but as it was a Monday, we were fine. The food was a big hit and miss. I had a smoked duck salad which was great, but my wife had a leek and potato soup which frankly had less flavour and texture than a Cup O Soup. But the staff handled this immediately, bringing a large complimentary glass of wine over and removing the offensive soup from the bill. We didn’t even need to complain. Exemplary customer service. We’re already planning to come back. Great little hotel.
Great friendly staff in a location we like. Room was super-clean and comfortable.
More expensive than usual for a small room, and poorly shower facilities. No sparkling water, limited extras.
Lovely setting. Attentive and friendly staff. Afternoon tea was great and being Able to bring our dog along means no one in the family was left behind. Thank you.
Nice , clean and friendly
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Excellent food.
No, or very little, hot water. Could only get warm water in shower at best.

Pleasant and attentive staff. Good choice of food at breakfast and dinner freshly cooked to order. Cleanliness of bed linen and bathroom towels
Rotting timber on bedroom window (room 108) potentially dangerous. Noise from compressor operating all night disruptive. Secondary glazing would help.
Lovely big room and beautiful bathroom for a standard double, bed was huge and very comfy, reception staff very welcoming, brilliant location.
Room was very hot even without the radiator on but found a small fan in the wardrobe so easily fixed!
The location, friendlyness of the staff, cleaness of the hotel. The breakfast. Nice village walks. Sections of pubs

Staff were very kind. Would stay again.
Parking was in the left-.hand station car park very near to the hotel. Wasn't expensive so fine.
Very slow service due to a lack of staff serving in the restaurant. The one member of staff that they did have was doing an excellent job in very difficult circumstances.
