Eating a old friend
Nothing as all it was very good
Nice cosy ‘olde world’ feel
Lack of grab rail in shower. In my late seventies I really need one to feel safe. Otherwise my room (33) was lovely.
In the mail the staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast time needs to cater for those guests who are there for recreation. The finish time of 9 am is too early.
Free Parking.
Awful room, mould on bathroom wall and awful stench. Stained carpet. Dated decor. Grubby.
Great value, handy location (for railway station, etc.), onsite parking. Desserts on the menu were good.
Bedside lighting in the room was a faff
Alles was aanwezig. Netjes en verzorgd. Ontbijt was superlekker en uitgebreid.
Personeel was correct maar weinig uitnodigend.
The hotel is central and has a decent car park. There was a nice looking riverside garden but it was shut.
The room was spacious, but very dated. The bedside lights didn’t work, the windows were in bad repair and there was a strange smell. It was musty and airless and we had to have the window open so there was a lot of noise from the road below. Worst of all, we discovered at bedtime that there was no loo paper in the bathroom. We didn’t feel comfortable about going to the bar to ask for this at a latish hour. Didn’t see any staff in the morning to let them know.
We had a family gathering at The Bear, 19 participants. All the staff were nothing less than outstanding - professional, helpful and friendly - and everything went according to plan. My room was fine, and the bar/restaurant were perfect for our needs. Appreciated the large car park and location.
breakfast lovely. Good choice for dinner. Room by the river - lovely.
Convenient location
Poor shower
The room was comfortable, clean and tidy. Excellent, friendly and attentive staff, this was our first visit but wont be our last.
All was fine
Central location and easy access to town and surrounding areas
Very grubby - outside sitting area has all new tables and chairs but spoiled by rubbish left laying around ie: beer barrels, trolleys and general rubbish not put away Also, rubbish left laying around in the carpark Carpets throughout the building very grubby especially on the stairs in the main building and cobwebs not removed throughout all areas Just felt that the standard of cleanliness has deteriorated and it is not cheap to stay here
Value for money and staff are friendly.
A little tired in places, poor water pressure.
We had a lovely stream behind our room, we saw swans in the afternoons - just beautiful. We had everything we needed in the room, tea/coffee facilities and it was close to the main building for breakfast.
The internet reception was bad,
Breakfast was great , nice room , very spacious , great location
Bed was very hard and uncomfortable , cleaning equipment left in the hallway over night , towel rail not working , lamps not working by bed
Breakfast was good.
Furnishings a bit tired
The closeness to nature
The fact that it wasn’t clean
Decor
Poorly greeted on arrival and lack of attentiveness. Given key and expected to find our own way to room. Dreadful, lumpy pillow.
Friendly, convenient location, delicious breakfast.
Bigger bed
The rooms look tired and in need of refit, the bathroom had staining on the ceiling and the shower had mildew/mould growing in the sealant
Great location, parking was secure with plenty of space. The staff were friendly.
No shower gel or hand wash in the bathroom. Room was dusty and there was a pair of old boxers in the bathroom from a previous guest. No bottle of water.
Reserved bed, breakfast, and evening meal. Stayed in what they describe as Bear Lodge. Superb and comfortable room.
Nothing I could see.
Good location and parking. OK food options
Very old premises with a few access issues
Lovely modern room with usb charging points and super hot shower
Not enough milk for hot drinks in the room and shower space was tiny if you used the shower curtain
Great pub atmosphere with a great menu and good bedrooms
Le cadre, les gens !
The location and accommodation was excellent. The staff was very helpful. There breakfast was superb. Dinner was good but not exceptional .
We had booked dinner, bed and breakfast but did not realise that dinner would be served in the bar. The bar was exceptionally busy and noisy and we could not hear ourselves speak. There were several large parties dining . We complained and the waitress moved us into the dining room which was much quieter. The booking was for 7pm but already 2 main courses were not available and also a cocktail.
Easy to find. Plenty of free parking. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice rooms. Shower was lovely and hot. Food was lovely. Bed was very comfortable. The room was hot, but there was a fan provided
Was quite dusty on the beams in our room and there were a few cobwebs.
Lovely location
Again, rooms not cleaned properly - biscuit crumbs underneath the dressing table and cobwebs on the window. Dust around the bed side lamps.
I booked in to The Bear Hotel, Hungerford it was seamless and my Room was what I can only assume was a Converted Stable Block it was Excellent, I ate Dinner at The Bear on Saturday Night it was very good and good value, the Bar Staff were also very good. I slept and rose on Friday Morning went in for Breakfast to be greeted By "Jasmin" an excellent Greeting and also very good Service at Breakfast I ordered a Full cooked Breakfast and it did not Disappoint me I was amazed at how "Jasmin" handled Reception and the Breakfast Room single Handled and when I handed my Room Key back she was there with a smile and I hope you have enjoyed your stay with us and Enjoy the rest of your holiday I was very in impressed the The Bear Hotel a very good and enjoyable all round good experience.
I could not Fault the Bear
Good breakfast. Friendly staff
Nothing
Very nice rooms and helpful staff.
breakfast
not all lights in bedroom worked
Friendly staff . Room with en-suite lots of hot water and good shower. Excellent choice at breakfast.
The toilet could have been cleaned better around the brackets.
All the staff we encountered were efficient and happy, the bar food was good and reasonably price. The breakfast was good and freshly cooked.
Nothing
Location & atmosphere
Moldy shower recess & ceiling, no exhaust fan to vent the steam. Shower curtain too short allowing water to splash under curtain onto the floor. The actual bedroom is also in need of a refurbishment.
It was central to the town and near to where we wanted to be.
Cigarette buts in full ashtrays outside & on the ground. Bathroom velux window wide open and difficult to close.
Comfortable room in the historic main building. The food is very good and obviously cooked there, and the staff are helpful and know what they're doing. The historic inn is conveniently located.
Good location, friendly staff, good breakfast selection.
Bathroom was not very clean with dust on the floor & very black silicone around the shower. Quite dusty in the room too especially around the TV.
The staff were amazing. Incredibly helpful and attentive and friendly. They went above and beyond to be helpful and in the evening managed a busy dining room with expertise, while the breakfast staff were similarly friendly and helpful.
The shower curtain looked a bit tired. A non-dairy milk-option would be nice.

All was fine
Room was cozy and comfortable Large shower
Toiletries. Just a tube left on sink rather than a simple shop bought bottle which would have been easier to use. Bedside lights tricky to use
Het was een prachtig hotel met een familie gevoel. Leuk en attent personeel. Echt een aanrader.
The location is excellent, the staff were very pleasant and the breakfast very good indeed
The rooms are not well insulated for noise
Abundant and fresh. Waitresses very attentive. Eggs royale delicious.
Room 19 small and dark. Hot food not available between 2 and five that Friday. I could not contact the reception directly beforehand by phone. I had to waste time going through Ai . I am elderly and prefer the old ways of ringing the hotel directly.
Professionalism of staff.
A member of staff, a tall man with dark, swept back hair, went above and beyond. He was friendly, professional and polite, the Manager was also very helpful and knowledgeable.
There was limited space in the room for ordinary items. I liked that it was on the ground floor but it was very noisy and the loud music was audible till I think 11pm and could hear other rooms. Nevertheless I did enjoy my stay!
Nice
The staff were so lovely, the rooms were a good size and very comfortable, good breakfast
Second visit to this business. Returning after enjoying the first. Liked the surrounding grounds they're beautiful and well kept. Really liked the outdoor courtyard and dining facility. Both rooms were charming and very clean.
Not much to be fair. The whole reason why I booked it again was we liked it a lot. If any criticism could be made, the bar could be bit bigger. there were short delays purchasing drinks but nothing to do with the staff. Just the limiting size of the bar.
Everything great Room was really nice lovely balcony

Location
I have stayed in this hotel many times over the last 30 years and this is the first time I’ve thought it’s really aged and verging on not being cared for. Needs an update asap!
Clean white sheets and towels Great massive shower head with great quantity of water. Excellent new bathroom Nice little writing desk in the good sized room too Nice bar and food facilities downstairs
I had the room on the side of the hotel next to the main A4 road, so traffic noise was a little problematic. But the bed was so comfy that I slept like a log. 4 big pillows.
Lovely clean white bedding and towels Decorated lovely Good shower
Outside areas need a bit of attention but they do seem to be working on it
We didn't eat at the hotel, though we did have drinks from the bar which were fine. The hotel seemed to be very popular, our stay was very pleasant the hotel was a very large characterful building with a friendly atmosphere. Our room was comfortable, there was good wi-fi and if visiting the area again we would certainly call in again.

Das Essen war sehr lecker, Abendessen sowie Frühstück. Das Personal war sehr nett!
Durch die alten Fenster wurde der morgendliche Verkehr sehr laut.
Was in a good place to get where we needed to go, staff were friendly
Found hairs in the bath on arrival wasnt very clean, not enough towels in room, breakfast was not very good either
A great hotel in a pretty village. Comfortable beds, nicely decorated bedroom, great staff. Clientele is a little contractor-y weekday evenings so we didn’t have dinner there but the menu looked great.
Helpful staff, pleasant room with comfortable bed, and bathroom with good shower. Friendly atmosphere in the bar and tasty food at a reasonable price, good breakfast. Would recommend a stay.
Nothing
Convenient, comfortable bed, staff very busy but accommodating, free car parking. Good value for money
A lot of contractors stay here during the week so the car park becomes quite parked up and there is a bit of noise early morning when they all leave for work. Some parts of the bedroom and bathroom rather dusty and shower curtain a bit old. Bit of road noise in my bedroom.
The service was great! Had a minor booking issue which was quickly resolved even at 12 am! Also staff very friendly polite and helpfull. Breakfest was also amazing, would recommend it!
The hotel was very hot, and wasnt properly cooled before we came.
Lovely room

Staff were friendly and helpful, free parking on site, food was great. Service with a smile. All good.
Didn't eat there. friendly staff, very convenient for my work, clean and pleasant
Though I was on my own, I did request a double bed which the hotel agreed to, but my room had two singles. No big deal
Friendly staff and great breakfast
Internet was very poor. Need to sort that out. I could not do any work
The staff were helpful and friendly.
The accommodation is looking a bit tired.
Location.
The stairs leading to rooms 39 & 40 are needing attention!
Great staff great location great value and great food one of best breakfasts I’ve ever had and my wife said same about her halloumi she had for our evening meal
Aircon would have been great the fan was brilliant but it was just so insanely hot during our visit not normal I’m sure
Beautiful setting, perfect near the town, lovely restaurant, fabulous rooms, stayed in the courtyard and great parking.
Nothing
Central location to town, nice charm
No air conditioning so terribly hard to sleep when hot
Lovely courtyard room. Overlooking the wisteria on one side and rhe small river on the other. Very lovely period features in the room.. Main bar and hotel had plenty of places to sit, read and have a drink.
Staff were friendly but could do with just being a bit more welcoming - felt more like an out of town motel than a small town's local hostelry. A minor point but I'd like the hotel to do really well and feel weren't quite selling the experience. Older gentleman who was serving in the restaurant was particularly friendly and warm. However younger chap refused to let me order a drink from the table as people had done' runners. However, I was a guest at the hotel so you'd think that would be guarantee enough. But thanks again ultimately a lovely short stay
Good location, friendly staff and nice room.
Location Food
Van parked outside my room with a guy sleeping in it with his dog. Felt uncomfortable locked the balcony door and window. Lots of cobwebs.
Nice town, good food, nice place to stay.
The style of the room the garden outside in this warm summer the nature and the river that you see through the window the wood decorations The curtain in the bathroon so there is no water outside. the design in the wallpaper the picture in the bathroom, it is one of my favourite for Xmas. Its near to everything in this romantic town., the supermarkets, stores, charities, train station, river, boat rides, cafes... Its easy to find. The bed was excellent special for my husband that he was tired driving from far. The chairs in the room were very comfortable. The fun was just proper for the summer season. Soft sheets
a little fridge.
Dinner was excellent fast service and realy tasty, staff were all exceptional
nothing from us, only wish i could eat more :-)
Clean and somewhat safe for bicycle storage too.
Room 17 smelt a little damp.
LOVE EVERYTHING about THE BEAR. Been coming for over 10 years (except Covid). GOOD food, Great town. Interesting shops . Friendly staff
NOTHING!!!!
Good value breakfast, good choice. Location of hotel very good.Friendly staff.
No place for hand soap dispenser in bathroom, had to leave it on shower floor or on toilet which is away from sink . No toilet brush . Windows need cleaning, decoration poor, peeling wallpaper.
close to quaint location
hard bed
Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Good food selection.
There was nothing really that we didn't like.
Use to be lovely
Is now ready for a paint job and this was the 3rd stay in 6 years was great at first but now outside our room at back of the kitchen was filthy and bin cages on show and cigarette buts been there for a few weeks, painting chips everywhere in rooms and restaurant, we have now gone elsewhere to stay until this improves
I’ve stayed at the bear several times now and I love it
The location the people the red kites
Good location in an attractive town near the M4
WiFi
The Breakfast was lovely.
Not enough light in the room, could do with another light on the ceiling.
Breakfast was lovely, room was spacious and clean. Bath and shower are very hot and clean. Tea making facilities are good. I noted a fan in the room which may have been used if we were there in the heatwave.
The general appearance on the outside, and patio area outside our room, which would be lovely but all overgrown and dock leaves growing through the cracks in the patio. Window sills are dirty and basically look shabby. . we had faulty bedside light, one taped over and the other not working.Sink tap dripping all night . There was a dog bowl outside with green water in it . Just felt like they haven't got anyone to clean outside or manage the garden area. Bit sad to see as I heard it used to be lovely a few years ago.
Great location great staff
Very friendly and accommodating staff. A great room and very quiet at night.
The lock on the bedroom could be more secure.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, lovely comfortable room, excellent breakfast, reasonable pricing, free safe parking.
The street view gives the wrong impression of a fabulous pub.
