Great friendly staff. Very very clean and nice quiet location. Ideal for transport links. We make a regular stop over.

A bit cheaper maybe.

Easy to get to/find, with ample, free parking. The room was clean & comfortable & soundproof, which is always handy when travelling with a dog in case of random barks!

Special thanks to Ben, the night porter, Michaela, the reception staff and the lovely young ladies working in the mornings. Everyone was kind, friendly and helpful, and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. Your kindness and care meant so much to me. Location was great for the wedding we were attending

It felt as though it was under staffed only one person on serving both the bar and checking in people she was very nice but rather over stretched.

Good room, spacious and clean . No disturbing external noise noted , even the passing passenger trains . Good transport access to town , or access routes to other locations .

Limited staff availability meant waiting for reception or bar staff to assist . Lots of visits to reception for staff to “ redesignate “ my key cards , which were badly affected by my mobile phone . Staff were always apologetic while redesignating the cards .

Lift to all floors which helps when checking-in and out of your room with your luggage. Breakfast was a good selection and was very pleasant. Had an evening meal on the Saturday night which was also very pleasant. Majority of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar was reasonably priced and a good selection of drinks available. Very clean throughout and was very easy to find just off the M1 for Barnsley. Great location and even had the opportunity to enjoy a meal next door at Toby Carvery if wanting to. Barnsley town is just a very short drive away with plenty of shops to suit everyone. Not very far away from Sheffield which also has a great shopping centre with every shop you can think of for clothes and accessories plus it would take a few hours to walk around.

1 member of staff in particular is very rude and inconsiderate. I’m sure his name is Steve and worked the night shift over the weekend. He has no customer service skills whatsoever. This member of staff was that bad towards a few of us staying at the hotel where it took me to report him to members of staff on the Sunday morning. I have never been in a hotel where I’ve had to deal with the rudeness of staff.

There was nothing to like. I was denied access because I didn't have a credit card to give them.

The receptionist was awful, lacked empathy and was smirking thought out my ordeal. I tried to explain that I had a room bought and paid for, but that I didn't have access to the card as I had left it at home. I had to sleep in my car because of this horrible person.

We were booked in for 5 days. On day 1 we requested a bath mat (due to my husband having had a double knee replacement) as there was a notice in the room asking guests to request this at reception. We asked EVERY DAY but no-one ever dealt with this. We were very disappointed with the reception staff - totally unhelpful.

I got charged for smoking even though I don’t smoke and when contested got no where with the staff

The wet room meant all the floor was wet which meant mopping up with the towel. No big deal tho. Kept window shut due to traffic noise.

The check-in process took over 20 minutes. The receptionist was in no rush at all and completely ignored my questions, making the arrival experience very frustrating

Clean tidy and very easy

This review has to be read with an understanding that there are very few hotel options in Barnsley. I’ve previously used the Holiday Inn, which is very tired, old and in need of refurbishment. Hence, I booked this hotel. The room rate was excellent, check in was superb and my room was basic but super clean. I especially liked the walk in shower with an amazingly non slip floor. The noise of the motorway will bother some guests but it was fine for me. Breakfast was perfectly adequate. The WiFi is great and there are tables at which one can work with plugs. The reason for the imperfect score is simply the evening food. It’s shocking! It’s all brought in and cook chill. Many of the dishes are exactly the same as those offered by Holiday Inn Express. How difficult is it to create a decent jacket potato? Apparently, it’s very difficult! I would stay here again but would get take-out or eat elsewhere. This isn’t convenient for busy business travelers but maybe that’s not the target market.

Absolutely fine for the price. Clean and comfortable beds so slept well. Handy for the M1 which can be noisy. Food was simple but quite adequate and was cheap. Breakfast ok, but again quite basic. Staff very friendly which was appreciated. Lots of contractors staying which was no problem at all but reflects on the budget offering. Would book again at the bargain price we paid.

Comfy beds spacious room and clean very cool in there especially being summer. Staff were amazing as well.

We had two rooms. My room was clean but my mams stunk of drains maybe more so from bathroom. Clean apart from that. Breakfast was lovely.

As I arrived one member gave a very poor welcome. Then told me I hadn’t paid and asked for payment (I had) she went out to back eventually came back and said nothing so I asked if she had seen I had she gave a yes with no apology. The evening food between me and my mam for 4 meals one child’s meal and 3 adults had spent around £65 and it really wasn’t great and we were freezing from air con. Two staff as leaving the building who didn’t say a thing to us not a bye nothing.

The room had obviously not been cleaned as there was rubbish in the bin and excrement on the toilet seat! When I mentioned this to the cleaner when checking out there was no apology other than reception hadn't informed them that the room needed cleaning !

That in this day and age compared to other hotels there was no air conditioning. Especially during the exceptional summer.

Check-in was easy with friendly staff, room clean and tidy, bed comfy. I would stay in Ibis again.

Although check-out was easy, two members of staff stood behind the counter and not one of them asked how my two night stay went or said hello or goodbye. Sadly they let the company down and the complete contrast to being greeted at the start of my stay.

I like that every day my bed was laid for me when I got back after a long day.

I didn't like the fact that every time I left my room and came back after a long day, the key card for the room door stopped working. I had to go back to the reception from my room on the 3rd floor to activate key card. Also there was no fridge in my room and there was no telephone in the room to call the reception and make an enquiry.

Had to cancel this trip but have stayed here before. Clean and tidy, and the staff are very helpful. The biggest thing for us though is that it is dog friendly.

We have stayed here many times. It is convenient for catching up with family and friends

Only issue was the room we were in, room 113, directly next to the stairs where every time someone used the stairs the door would slam. We have two younger children age 4 and 1, and this kept my youngest daughter up all night. We got told that the hotel was fully booked and was unable to change rooms. I’d have thought I’m not the only one to have complained about the constant banging of the stairs door, and would have maybe considered not being placed with two younger children next to the stairs.

The car park was big and the location was good for motorway access.

One of the staff members called Steve checked us in and was extremely rude and breached financial security measures. On top of that, once we got to the room, we noticed the sheets had not been changed as there were blood stains on them. The staff member who changed the sheets was nice and friendly and offered complimentary breakfast however this did not make up for Steve’s treatment nor the unclean sheets.

Having to return to reception to have key card re programmed every day. Even when we kept it separate from credit cards and phones! Very noisy hotel too with people smoking below our room and banging about at all hours.

They were so accommodating, even though I was a little intoxicated and struggled with my phone they endeavoured to get me checked in. Patience of a saint and can’t thank them enough. I didn’t catch the name of the lady who checked me in, but she’s a real star.
