Old building! But this is more than offset by the staff and experience
Excellent service
This hotel is spotlessly clean with a good range of services - breakfast buffet was excellent with a vast range of Chinese and international options. Staff were very friendly and helpful and service was excellent. 20 minutes walk to the metro or station but taxis are very cheap the location gives you a good feel of the local life- the locals were friendly!! We will return
It’s a nice hotel but the rooms are a little old and like other Chinese hotels they have a big window from the main room into the bathroom. Who wants to see their partner cleaning their teeth? It has a blind but at night light shines through when the bathroom light is turned on. It woke me up. Anyway, people are very nice, as I’ve found generally in China One good think is that it is close to the Botanical Gardens on foot. One issue was noise from building works nearby but is just a short term problem
This hotel is a bit old, but overall you'll find everything you expect. Food is very good, rooms are large and the location although a bit remote makes it a quiet retreat. English is only spoken by few staff members. Inddor pool is of reasonable size but think to bring your swimming cap or else you'll have to buy an expensive one...
Beautiful hotel. Great food. Comfortable bed. English not much spoken other than at front desk, but staff is most pleasant and tries hard to help. Near to East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST).
This was a business trip. Everything was great. Upon entering there is a lovely smell of something floral - very calming and chilled. There are lots of large paintings everywhere which are lovely to look at. I know very little Chinese and was made to feel very welcome. As the videos at the airport say, a smile and a wave with 'ni hao' go a long way! Also learn 'Xie Xie' which is thank you - also important! The room was comfortable and clean, a bit dated but all fine and housekeeping checked in on me every evening to give me fruit and make sure I was ok, which was amazing. Candy and her team in the restaurant were fantastic - they were all very friendly and kind. The food was good, I recommend the chicken and pesto wrap with chips from the Western menu. It was great. be mindful that wine is only sold by the bottle and not by the glass and there are no beer bottle openers in the bedrooms even though there are bottles of beer. Excellent wifi. The mattress was really solid and firm so I slept really well. A great stay if you are over that way in Shanghai.
A hotel with a spacious room for a decent price in Shanghai. They could do a better job in maintaining the conditions of the furnitures and other facilities
The hotel was not too bad, but I doubt that I'd return. The room is fairly basic for the price. The breakfast is VERY overpriced, but there are not many other options in the surrounding area. I booked a king bed, but was given a room with two singles. The staff switched me to a much smaller room with a double bed when I brought this to their attention. It was ok, but I had paid extra for a large room with a king.
I was booked into this hotel by a client. Otherwise would not have found it as it is not in a main hotel area of Shanghai. Its old, but I did have a pleasant stay. It is next to the Shanghai Botanical gardens which can be accessed directly from the compound which makes a pleasant change from the usual noise and traffic. But it seems to be far from anywhere unless have transport or use a taxi. Glad I stayed, but probably wouldn't seek it out again
Great hotel and excellent customer service. I would just advise that the facilities are old and out dated. I would not recommend in going if you like a spa and hair salon in the hotel. I would say that this is a standard 3 star for the most part. The breakfast is not good. It is like a American international breakfast. Not Chinese.
Nice hotel near the botanical gardens, but far from other sight seeing areas.
The Garden next door! You cannot beat that.
Take taxi from pudong airport to the hotel around 45 minutes and RMB140. Actually, the hongiao airport is more close to the hotel. Hotel room is clean. I book the hotel with breakfast, and the breakfast is good. Free Wifi.
The service was pleasant, especially the young lads in the cafe, but the location is awful. the hotel is off the beaten track. in good traffic it takes 30 mins to get to any of the city sights and much longer during rush hour. There is one cafe nearby but otherwise this is a residential area. The grounds are quite nice, with fish ponds, a nice walkway, greenery and birds around but this can't make up for the bad location. The rooms are old and tired although the bed was fine and clean. I would not stay again although those visiting Shanghai who want to get away from it all may like this hotel.
As other reviewers mention, it is slightly outside the main part of the city - however, it was perfect for us because it was in close proximity to where family lived. The hotel was very clean, the staff extremely professional and everyone spoke at least a little bit of english, and the hotel is walking distance from the beautiful Shanghai Botanical Gardens (only 20RMB, or about $3.50 entrance fee). The room was cleaned well every day and we had a lovely view of the hotel's pond and black swans. I would highly recommend, especially if you need to stay in the southern part of Shanghai for any reason.
I have been to the tourist areas of Shanghai several times, so for me, it was not neccessary to be in the heart of the tourist district. What is remarkable about Skylight Gardents is its immediate proximity to the Shanghai Botanical Gardens. As a hotel guest, you have free admission, and a private gate that enters into an expansive oasis. If you are in trepidation of air pollution and the hustle and bustle of Shanghai, I would recommend this hotel. The downside is that it is not close to major attractions. So, if you are looking for a very pleasant place to de-compress, before moving to another area of China, and have no need to do tourism 101, then I would recommend this four-star accomodation.
If you happen to have work somewhere in the area its a good hotel to stay at. The rooms are clean and hotel staff is helpful but the hotel isn't really near anything at all so if you are going to visit Shanghai better stay closer to the city. As a bonus you can also go into the park behind for free.
The hotel is basically decent and claen but some furniture were kind of old and outdated. The "biggest" downside of this hotel is that it is remote from the downtown area and there is no subway to access nearby.
It's good at this price. Very quite, close to a park. Outside of the hotel, there is nothing basically. Therefore, It is very suitable for people who don't like down life style, but it is not good for people (young, lady,...) who like shopping, eating, night-life, etc., because it is pretty far away from downtown.
This is a great hotel with large, comfortable rooms, lovely garden, good bathrooms, nice b'fast (Chinese and Western). It is quite far from downtown, and not even walking distance to the metro, so only appropriate for people with business in the area. It is popular for putting up people at conferences connected to Eastern Chinese University of Science and Technology, nearby. The one drawback was an almost complete absence of English from hotel staff.
I was waked up by noise from construction work upstairs early in the morning. The staff is friendly and overall condition of the hotel is OK. The location of hotel is just too far from the downtown and any subway stations.
we stayed there because it was close to our relatives, and it was fine and clean but it's WAY out of town for anyone who wants to see Shanghai highlights. We also chose it because of the lovely pool that is advertised, even at the front desk -- but it was empty; they do not fill it until May. Likewise, there are tennis courts in good shape but the prices of court time and equipment doubled over night from our first inquiry Depends on who you talk to i guess. In the end we didn't bother, but both those amenities were reasons we chose the hotel. Neighborhood was ok but may seem sketchy to some Americans.
This hotel would have been easy 4/5 stars if not for the whole payment portion. Here are the issues in order: 1) I paid for the hotel in full over hotels.com, yet the hotel charged me for the room again. (working on resolving this issue) 2) The amount I paid at the hotel, I explicitly selected to pay in local currency (RMB) as my credit card does not charge conversion fees - yet they still billed me in US dollars, essentially charging a 4% currency conversion fee. (the bill they gave me had the option of both payments, and I circled the RMB option, pointed to it, and asked to be billed in RMB.. yet they just ignored that)
The hotel is next to the botanical garden which is nice for morning walks/jogs. Its gym and swimming pool need to be improved but overall, I enjoyed my stay and found the hotel is good value for the money.
This hotel is quite far from down town Shanghai and other attractions. Most local business people do not know its location. We found it to be acceptable, but they do not recognize smoking floors vs non-smoking. I booked a non-smoking king room and upon arrival they gave us a choice of smoking king or non smoking twins. We took the twins but smoking was prevalent on the floor. Lastly, upon checking out, I was handed a bill to pay that was wildly incorrect. They did not take into consideration that I had pre-paid for the room through hotels.com. Due to language barrier, it was difficult to try to clear up. After 'settling' the pre-payment scenario, I had to convince mgt that I had also signed a credit card voucher as a deposit for services. Finally, on the way to the air port, mgt called the driver and wanted an additional $489.00. The whole experience was not enjoyable and unless you are very fluent in Chinese or a Chinese national, I strongly recommend against this hotel.
This hotel is cozily located in a quiet area but still conveniently close to public transportation. Room is nice and clean. Breakfast is decent though it is a little expensive.
We stayed here on a recent trip and enjoyed the quiet this hotel offered. It was relatively close to the airport (about 1 hour by taxi) and close to the Shanghai South Railway Station (about 10 minutes by taxi). - The hotel is next door to the Botanical Gardens, there are trees and birds everywhere, loads of greenery, and an entrance to the gardens from the hotel (although we couldn't figure out how to get through the gate) - Great Breakfast (although we booked a villa for 3 people, we only had 2 included breakfasts, so we had to pay for the third) - We stayed in a villa, which was great, 2 bedroom, kitchen, dining room, tv room, 2 bathroom and a laundry. - Check in staff were fantastic, had us checked in and in our rooms in about 10 minutes. - Chinese restaurant was fantastic. What we didn't like about this hotel? - One of the beds in the villa was really hard (but that's often the case with Chinese beds). - The fridge in the villa didn't work - Only 2 breakfasts were included in a 3 person room (as per above) - Not a lot of restaurants in the nearby area - Whilst the reception area was gorgeous, the villa itself was a little run down - Business centre staff didn't speak a lot of English, they booked tickets for our train trip the next day, but it was hard work. Overall, a recommended hotel, particularly if you're flying into Shanghai and planning on taking a train out (from the Southern Station) the next day. Also great if you're looking for somewhere to base yourself whilst exploring Shanghai, particularly as a family group, as the villas are gerat value.
Rooms r very clean, luxurious and modern. Service is excellent. If u stay in main building rooms r 7 stars and price is reasonable, but villas r not as luxury as rooms in main building although it has full equiped kitchen, washing machine and dryer. Food, I had breakfast it is very good with chinese and international cusuine. Location, it is little far from city center and international airport it takes about 40 minutes by taxi to each direction. I think it is very good for families to stay in a villa and business people in main building..
A good clean and pleasant hotel, a little lacking in activities and eating options but u get good rates and excellent service.
