Great unfenced lodge with very comfortable accommodation and friendly staff who go above and beyond with everything (lots of little touches make it special). Sorta was our guide and she was excellent company - she was so knowledgeable, patient (we had children with us on their first safari) and taught us so much about the bush. We had amazing sightings and we can’t wait to return!

Reviewed May 3, 2026The staff were so kind and so accommodating. I felt like they became family in the 4 days we were there and it was hard to leave! They really helped me when my bag didn't make it to Nelspruit on my flight by getting it from the airport (2 hours away) when none of the responsible airlines would step up. The chef made delicious vegan food just for me for lunch and dinner. Our game driver, Sorta, was so knowledgeable, skilled, kind, good-humoured, and pleasant to be around. I can't stress how kind and helpful the staff is. You really feel like your safety and comfort are a top priority.
The accommodation is really rustic, which adds to the charm, but if I could make one change, it would be to add air conditioning in the rooms.

The hotel kitchen staff were absolutely incredible. So friendly and able to meet everybody's dietary requirements. The camp staff as a whole were so helpful No praise is high enough for them.
Location is excellent.
For the cost I think having 8 people in a safari vehicle means not everyone gets a window seat. That is not a premium experience compared to other similarly priced lodges..In fact if you have a safari from the Kruger Gate Lodge (which is half the price )you also get 8 people or less in a vehicle. The amount of sightings are the same ,expect with fewer vehicles at Rhino Post .

Reviewed Oct 16, 2025We stayed at this lodge for our very first safari experience, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The entire staff and especially the guides were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming.
The tents are beautifully set up and very comfortable. We were initially curious about the lack of air conditioning, but it turned out not to be an issue at all: the ceiling fan keeps things pleasant during the day, and the nights are cool and refreshing.
A special mention goes to the chef — the dinners were outstanding, easily comparable to fine dining restaurants we’ve visited elsewhere.
We couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to safari life. Highly recommended!
Good private reserve within the Kruger national Park.
Only 16 guests so you get a lot of personal attention and two game drives per day. The guides are knowledgeable and connected by radio so sightings are shared.
The concession area is shared with Rhino walking safaris. This means the game drives don't go to the walking area, effectively halving the private area. This results in drives ending up mainly on the public Kruger park roads that have quite a bit of traffic (especially at good sightings)
I would expect to get more drinks included in the relatively high rates. Most similar establishments give you at least dinner wine included. Rhino post only includes drinks at the evening drive stop.

+Great tented room not luxurious but with all necessary ammenities and with a large private terrace. Rooms are connected to main area by a passarel.
+The food was good
+ Wake-up call at 5 with game drive starting at 5.30 and lasting untill 10
+Game drives in the afternoon were also long from 16 to 19.30.
+We were only 4 people in a truck sharing only with a swiss couple.
+ The property is not fenced.
- Game drives inside the Kruger NP are done on main roads and some dirt roads as trucks are not allowed off-road
- Roads get a bit busy as soon as the park gates open for the general public, with a lot of self driving vehicules around, sightings tend to get crowded.
- The lodge is 20 mn from the main road, so this trip back and forth has to be done on each game drive.

It is a small lodge (10 tent houses) and as soon as you arrive you are already part of a super friendly family.
Our guide Mareike was excellent. Getting up at 5.00 in the morning is a bit hard at the beginning but Mareike welcomed us with hot muffins and we were ready for great gamedrives.
Although the tent houses might soon need a fresh up / face lift the whole team, the food and the hospitality were excellent. Special thanks also to Crystal for a great afternoon at the terrasse.
Thanks a lot, you made our stay in Kruger exceptional.
Hope to be back soon
Soon there should be a facelift of the houses/tents.
Very friendly and heloful staff. Very knowledgeable , friendly and welcoming safari guide( Amend). He made our safari trips very enjoyable
Quality of food was very good
Great to see lots of elephants at the water hole from the lodge decking
No wifi capability in the bedroom.
We were surprised that our safari guide did not have the capability of 2 way radio contact with other safari vehicles, which would have helped him in locating the animals and therefore enhanced the safari experience
We were also surprised that having already provided passport details etc by email, that on arrival when completing the indemnity forms that we still needed to fill all those details in again ourselves
Nice to be offered a complimentary welcome drink of iced tea but an alternative cloice - e.g a fruit juice would have been nice
When we include a safari trip in our South African itinerary, we usually stay one night in Kruger and one night in a private game reserve. For us, this is the ideal combination : Kruger always allows us to see a broad range of animals, while a lodge in a private game reserve will usually focus on specific animals (such as 'the big 5...). In our opinion, this is a great combination for a safari trip. This year, we choose Rhino Post in Kruger and Elephant Plains in Sabi Sand.
RP delivered exactly what we were hoping for : James took us on an afternoon and morning game drive and we saw lots of animals including a family of around 10 lions, a sable antilope (very rare), a secretary bird and many many others.... RP had 2 vehicles (with around 8 to 10 people each) - no tracker, but James and his colleague in the other car were keeping each other posted on sightings. We were very happy with the game drives...
The lodge itself is truly great as well : what was new for us, was the experience of staying in an open camp. Upon arrival, we went to our room and saw 2 elephants right in front of our terrace. So cool, so amazing.... the next morning a herd of elephants was passing through the dry river bedding as well. Fantastic !
Food was very good - a bit more gastronomic even then other lodges we stayed at.
Rooms were very very comfortable and cozy as well.
All in all, a great experience and totally recommended !
Welcome drink was charged to our bill and checkout took too long (everything we consumed needed to be typed line per line on our invoice, while we were waiting....and we were in a hurry).

They turn off the electricity for the night up until the morning. Also there were some hidden costs, no price list for drinks, when you go on game drive the first drink is free, after that you have to pay, which they only tell you when you have your second drink in your hand. The fridge in the room is outside, and I was too scared to go outside at night due to baboons jumping on the roof. Also there is no AC, so it does get warm. Loved it all. Would have been added bonus for the river to be running, but we were here in the dry summer.
Excellent range of food for breakfast and interesting and very tasty evening meals. The rooms are beautifully designed and very comfortable with plenty of space. We didn't use the pool or other facilities as we didn't have time. Game drives with James were very informative and interesting and he has a wonderful knowledge of the area and the game. Even though we weren't there at the best time of year he found plenty of animals and pre-empted some of the behaviour that was about to happen. I'm actually not a great fan of sundowners as I'd rather be out looking for animals but everything was presented very cleanly and a good selection of snacks were available. Every member of Staff we met was polite and friendly and we couldn't have asked for more.
We loved our stay and don't want to be negative but were surprised at the extra costs for an extra sundowner (after the first one) as we felt this was a little petty on the cost of the trip and we weren't told when we were out that it was being charged.
The Safari Tour was very good, the Rangers are doing a very good job!

The staff was also exceptional.
Our feedback would not be complete with out many compliments and thanks to James, our guide, for seven spectacular game drives. James was a joy to be around and has a good sense of humor. He is passionate about what he does and is just as excited to spot animals as we were. It was nice to know he loves sharing the beauty of the Kruger with people from all around the world. While nothing is guaranteed in the bush, James was able to find the big 5 and dozens of other animals per day. Dirty linen with crawling ticks and blood stains from crushed insects.
Used and dirty towels were fished out of the bathtub by housekeeping with expectations for guests to re use. The staff hung those damp towels on the hooks instead of replacing them with fresh ones.
Game drive was shortened due to other guests’ need to return to the lodge for their flight. This is understandable but I could have been assigned to one of the two other vehicles, or at least informed instead of finding out halfway on the drive from fellow guests.
Attempted theft on the morning of my departure while I was out on a game drive (I did lock my room). Locked near-brand new samsonite suitcase was tampered with a sharp and hard object, most likely a knife. The rubber/plastic clasp with metal screw was pried open and damaged. Unfortunately for the incompetent thief the bag couldn’t be opened that way as the clasp looking part simply covered the continuous zip across the entire bag. However, I still ended up with a damaged suitcase and feelings of being absolutely violated. This is not acceptable in any way or form, let alone at a supposedly luxury lodge that costs 800 dollars a night. I left the property extremely upset and shaken.
