Great location, free parking, lovely rooms. Welcoming, helpful staff and brilliant breakfast
No complaints
The staff were really friendly
We stayed in room 9, after a long drive from Cornwall for a course/ exam for myself the next day we instantly got met with Cousin sitting on the chair and it breaking. Dinner although the chef listened to my request of how I liked my steak the Sirloin was pure gristle ( not a marble which I wouldn't have minded) so most of it was wasted. When retiring to the room as I desperately needed a good night's sleep, the noise from the Aircon?! And paper thin walls hearing the other rooms was torture!! I was also bitten multiple times and I have auto immune disorders, I was covered in hives and in agony and still am with the burning. Having travelled all day, to not sleep all night before a 10 hour course and Xmas was horrendous! Once it was light in the morning I checked the bed to see what the hell I was reacting so badly too and found bed bugs and rent a kill under the beds full of critters!!! I had to be at my location and hour away first thing and didn't get chance to say a thing, my cousin went back and stripped the beds to find yet more bugs all within the beds. Once I finally have recovered I will be in contact but right now on the long journey back and extremely poorly ( as is my cousin but she doesn't have the same conditions as me) Tearful, exhausted and absolutely gutted, I Never complain but this was hideous I'm afraid 😭
Alt, aber traditionell und sehr sauber.
Wie so oft fehlt es an einer Möglichkeit einen Koffer abzulegen.
Location convenient
Dated, overpriced. Room too hot. At least 25 degrees C and windows only opened about 1”. Bathroom even hotter and no openable windows. Upon inspection in morning we appeared to be next to a boiler room.
A very nice, comfortable old inn . Central and ideal for exploring the town.
Unbeatably, it doesn’t have the facilities of a modern hotel. Stair, steps etc had to be navigated
Lovely old hotel . Had a nice evening meal and lovely breakfast . Staff friendly
Everything in the hotel was good . We had a parking space but there are not many .
Location was good. Accommodation was separate so away from the main pub noise. Parking on site free.
Fixed price breakfast. Doesn't work for us. Walked into Tewkesbury and got brrakfast for two for less than one fixed price.
Old style country hotel, clean and comfortable
Nothing
free parking. room was quiet.good location for all of tewksburys amenities.
Staff were all outstanding. Friendly and helpful. Restaurant also very good - variety and quality.
I like hot water in shower etc but the hot water was extremely hot - there was a warning sign to be fair but I wonder if the top temperature could be thermostatically controlled.
Friendly and helpful staff
Dated rooms and decor.
The property was in a good position, opposite the abbey and close to the river and town. The room and bathroom were small but fine for an overnight stay. The staff were nice and friendly.
Dogs are allowed in the eating areas which felt unhygienic. We were going to eat in the restaurant but there was one dog barking and another panting, at the next table. Dogs were also present at breakfast. It is an old property so it was a bit of a trek getting to our room, upstairs and along corridors.
Location was great
Tv from another room was blasting all night so no sleep
Very friendly staff and helpful staff. Excellent Location for sightseeing. Room was comfortable, clean and functional for the price.
Bathroom in need of a little updating but functional.
Locality, price, food all brilliant.
Springy and quite small bed.
The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very helpful. It's an old building and very close to the abbey and local amenities and the car park was on the doorstep.
The bottles being collected during the night/early morning was a loud wake up call. The bed mattress was not the comfiest, but that is a personal thing - I don't like soft mattresses.
In lovely old part of town, close to abbey, museum and river walks
The restaurant and bar area were very nice although we never ate there but the menu looked very appetising. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean. The location was fabulous too. We got free parking which was a bonus. Thank you to all the staff.
We had a twin room n⁰ 9. The beds were very narrow with big heavy double quits on them. The room was very warm and so we had the windows open. The drone all night from some sort of fan or extractor kept me awake the whole night long. It went on and off, on and off, it would have been better to have stayed on the whole of the night. The floor boards creaked very loudly and part of the floor by the bathroom seemed as if it was about to fall in. But it was only £79 per night and we only stayed the one night. You get what you pay for as the saying goes. I'm sure not every room had the same problems well I'd like to think not anyway. For one night it was adequate. Thank you.
Location
Noise
Nice staff
Dangerous stairs.
Nothing.
Room in annexe horrendous. Vile bathroom. Window had a wire, so couldn't open fully. Fan extremely noisy. We left.
The pub itself is lovely. And the staff were helpful and polite.
The hotel room was terrible. Needs a deep clean and maintenance required on almost everything in it. The bathroom was partially poor. And had a really musty smell to it. It really let the whole stay down. We were very disappointed.
Very welcoming staff and great breakfast thanks
De plek en het personeel.
De luidruchtigheid s’ochtends. Er werd met deuren geslagen en harde geluiden.
Ideally situated and with free parking, it was comfortable and clean and meals were good.
Was initially booked into room 4, but the toilet was very noisy when other rooms flushed their toilets and when they did sewer gasses leaked into my bathroom. But the staff put me in into room 18 and that was much better. Not sure if all toilets in the hotel are connected to the hot water system, but room 18 is.
The staff were lovely and friendly. Food in restaurant was tasty and good value and arrived at our table quickly
The room was stifling hot. We could only open the windows a tiny bit so when we put the fan on it just circulated the hot air. We were on the ground floor so even if the windows opened more we wouldnt have been able to sleep with them open. I had to wet a towel and try to sleep with it over me to cool myself down. The bathtub was extremely slippery. There is a sign to say it is and we could have a non slip bathmat if we asked reception. Why not just give us one when we checked in? 3 of us were booked in to a 3 person room however only 2 towels were in the room...what the????
Location was perfect for everything
The shower was good
The noise from the room above us. A chair we couldn't sit on in case we fell through it. The torn duvet covers. The spiders and webs. Bumpy pillows.
Ideal location for Abbey and other interesting places.
The water was so hot I had to run the tap a long time to get a cold drink. Considering the drought this was a waste of water. My room was near a fire door and staircase ( room 24) which meant noise as people came and went. However they changed my room which was very satisfactory.
Close to Abbey
Bathroom blind broken. Sink taps leaked
Breakfast perfectly fine for our needs as we only wanted cereals and toast but the other options sounded very good .Room and bathroom old fashioned but clean
Mattress was a bit saggy.Chair rather than stool would have made the bedroom more comfortable
The room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely with a great menu and large selection of fruit and cereals.
The smoked salmon for breakfast was poor quality. The bedroom floor was very creaky but this can be excused as the hotel is very old!
Location.
Nothing.
Excellent location in this lovely historic town. Good to have free parking. It is an old building from the 1600s so had some quirky features, but the room was clean and comfortable with a good shower. A fan was provided in the room which was great. The Abbey was just across the road and riverside walk within a short stroll, as was the historic town centre with cafes and restaurants nearby. We didn't have breakfast included in our rate, but it was very reasonably priced.
The bedroom floor was a bit creaky but that just reflects the historic age of the building.
Central near river side nice in the summer

No crumpets or croissants. Lukewarm coffee. Nice location and staff.
See above.
Well cooked, fresh and good quality ingredients. Plenty of everything. Great selection
Decor a little tired
Lovely hotel, really nice staff. Good atmosphere
My single room was on the small side. OK for 1 night.
The hotel was central & parking was on site with a permit for guests staying there, which was collected from reception & displayed on our dashboard. Check in was quick & easy and the room itself was comfortable. A fan was provided which was essential due to the very hot weather & the fact that the window could only be opened a fraction. The shower in the en-suite was really good with plenty of hot water. We were unable to have an evening meal there but we enjoyed a good breakfast the next day. We enjoyed looking around the area and especially the magnificent Tewkesbury Abbbey which was opposite, although we were unable to look inside due to there being a one & a half hour service taking place. We could have taken part in the service but we didn’t have that amount of time to spare.
The room was extremely hot despite having the fan on all night and the bedding was quite heavy. There was no nice view from the window, only the shute of the kitchen extractor. The en-suite, although clean, was particularly tired looking with a crack in the hand basin & the cap of one of the taps came off each time it was turned on. I think every floorboard in the room must have squeaked which, although annoying, I suppose is inevitable in an old building. Although we hoped to have our evening meal at the hotel, we didn’t book it on arrival and when we went down to the restaurant there seemed to be a lack of staff on duty. The lady in charge seemed to be doing everything including overseeing the bar area. She did acknowledge we were waiting to be seated but we never were, so after about 10 mins we left. We returned half an hour later but the area was still really busy & the wait seemed as if it would be much longer so we left again and ate elsewhere.
Staff was very helpful
No body wash or shampoo, bed very soft and seemed very small I accept that it’s a very old building but all the floors creaked when you move
Really close to Tewkesbury town, bars & restaurant. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice.
We were at the front of the hotel & being do hot we had to open the windows so we heard the bells from the Abbey all night, the road traffic was noisy and there were pipe rumbling noises throughout the night.
The comfortable beds
The noise in the night from the room above us.
Lovely hotel and pub
Nothing
Everything was great!
It needed aircon 😂
Nice welcome, staff great at breakfast, breakfast was good. Safe parking, good wifi, lovely old building. Comfy bed, good shower, quality toiletries and toilet paper, good lighting.
There was no toilet brush. While it's not their fault I wouldn't stay here during a heatwave. There is a fan but it was very warm in the room. Shower was just adequate in terms of flow.
Nice pub. The receptionist, Jay, very helpfull with local knowledge. Excellent comfy bed. Good location
Not much at the price.
Meal was super but staff unaware of special offers
Given choice to order specials
Location and parking
Very hot and stuffy
The room was huge, the shower was great, lovely staff
Nothing
Great view from room. Good and reasonable menu.
Traffic noisy at night
Great location (stones throw from the Abbey and the high Street Very friendly/helpful staff
Poor food (oven chip, out of a freezer bag feel) Tired and tatty decor
The location was excellent. The room was tired but perfectly adequate. Breakfast was good value and we ate at the hotel which was very acceptable. The staff were generally very pleasant and helpful.
The hot weather made the rooms hot too and the fan was very useful. If this hot hot weather continues every summer I think you should consider air conditioning units.
Location
Centre for getting about the area
Nice pub area with comfy seating.
Workman still in our room as we checked in after advertised check-in time. Room not cleaned between his departure and us occupying room, leaving industrial smell and marks on surfaces. Very unfriendly reception. We felt very unwelcomed and like we were an inconvenience rather than paying guests arriving from afar. Also I have ALWAYS been allowed to leave my bags somewhere before check-in or after check-out although I understand it's not part of what we paid for. We were eventually allowed here but under duress and no smiles at all. We were given one tiny rotary fan during this heatwave. Above us the floorboards were dreadfully creaky and loud.
Room very comfortable and quiet , excellently comfortable bed an£ had a very good nights sleep
Access up a steep narrow staircase so a little tricky to get my case and bag up to my room.
sxcelant breakfasts room quite good enouth for my needs excellent location for where I was boing (Welland steam rally)
not enough TV channels
The location was ideal for the purpose of my trip. The room was comfortable too.
Only things that springs to mind is the choice of real ale on offer during my stay. Limited choice for a Greene King owned hotel
Wonderful breakfast staff old fashion bob ami attitude.
Excellent location, free parking and very helpful staff.
Room could do with a little update but considering the price , it's good value for money
The location was perfect for us. The staff were really friendly and helpful. And having parking was a bonus.
Good location and staff very helpful.
Constant bells from Abbey even overnight is difficult to accept!
Great location opposite Tewkesbury Abbey, close to all shops (within walking distance). Comfortable bed, room was fairly basic but clean. For what we paid it was ok. Only stayed one night, didn’t eat there. Receptionist very helpful as we arrived early to check in and advise we wouldn’t be back till after 10pm as we were going to Upton Bluesfest. She gave us our keys for later.
Sound insulation was poor, this is often a big problem with me. Could hear every word of the woman’s conversation in the next room. I snore so no doubt it wasn’t much fun for her either. No privacy at all. We stayed in the main building, maybe the annexe rooms have better sound insulation, I don’t know. I wish all hotel rooms could be rated on sound insulation to help me choose better.
Bar staff very nice and happy 😊
Rooms in annex very noisy in morning from Rooms above

Air conditioning. Better plumbing in bathroom
Booked here for a 2 night stay for a visit to Tewkesbury. Fantastic old building full of character over looking the Abbey . Rooms are clean and have everything you need for your stay great value for money with friendly professional staff . We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and food was well cooked and tasty and very reasonably priced . There is a car park on site which is so convenient and you get a permit at reception to place in the car for free parking. Had a very enjoyable stay here and would not hesitate to recommend to family & friends . Tewkesbury is a lovely town with lots to see and do and many good pubs and restaurants. Look forward to visiting again and will definitely book the Bell for our stay ..
Perfect location. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Lovely place, location was great.
Lovely place to stay, my bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever had at a hotel. Very clean and great value
Parking is not guaranteed for guests and if a function is going on you can not park and have to use public car park and your car will get broken into, so be aware of this
Great location, beautiful old building, rooms up to date, spotlessly clean, plump pillows and nice bedding, fan in room, large bathroom with walk in shower, plenty of towels. Food and service in restaurant was excellent
Parking was a bit tight
Lovely old hotel, parking available and a good location. Dinner in the restaurant was really good and the staff were very friendly. We had a ground floor family room, very basic but everything we needed. It was extremely hot and we couldn't open windows but had been provided a fan which helped a little.
Couldn't open windows. No extractor in the bathroom and window was painted shut. Could hear footsteps walking around in the room above in the middle of the night, woke me up.
The location and the breakfast was nice and the lady who served it.
The worst room I have ever stayed in.. Room 21. It was roasting hot . There was a fan in the room but just circulated the hot air. I think the bathroom was above the kitchen as there seemed to be heat coming from it when I opened the door to use it. Even though the weather was warm it was cooler outside at night but my room just got hotter and hotter . It was cooler in the Hallway. The fixed shower was tiny with a slope at the back of it which was dangerous. The water was always scolding hot even out of the cold tap. I didn’t sleep and tried to open the windows to let a bit of cool in but the windows only opened about 3 inches wide which allowed various flys to enter my room. I’m not sure if it was a bedbug but I had two pinprick bites in my eyelid when I woke up on the first night and my eyelid was swollen and painful. Slept on top of the covers at the other end of the bed after that but could not relax and was knackered for my whole stay. There were no sockets either side of the bed. There was no water or biscuits provided . The bed was lumpy and soft and the pillows cheap foam that were not comfortable. There was parking but the car park sometimes was full. Some of the spaces were very narrow and at an angle. I had to lug my case up alot of stairs to get to the horrible room. I paid a lot for it too and as a genius customer I have paid a lot less for much nicer accommodation elsewhere.
Friendly well organised and accommodating
They allowed dogs into the dining room
Did not eat breakfast
The en suite toilet did not flush properly in room 12, but everything else was satisfactory.
Food was wonderful workers were patient and kind drinks were great building is beautiful
I managed to park car straight away which is important and a.mber of staff gave us a free parking voucher straight away
Lager served in plastic glasses
Staff really looked after me
Ideal location with car parking. Great for exploring the Abbey and the Severn Ham. Single room was spacious and small fan that was provided was adequate to deal with the heat. Much more to Tewkesbury that I had realised so I will visit again
Bed was slightly too hard
Location was good, food quite good, staff were friendly.
Bed wasn’t great, pillows were too hard and they didn’t have any alternatives
The location was excellent for our purposes. The breakfast choices were good although one of my companions suggests not serving hollandaise sauce in a jug on a hot plate.
I understand that installing air conditioning in a historic building is very difficult but more powerful fans in the bedrooms would be a good alternative.. The lack of USB charging points in bedrooms is also unusual these days.
It's a beautiful building and the staff were lovely. Water pressure in the shower was excellent.
The bed was very soft (giving me backache) and the room was like a furnace.
Good location and parking, restaurant had good food. beautiful old hotel.
Bathroom had a strong damp smell, disappointed that we didn't get to stay in the hotel itself, but in the outdated annex. restaurant staff seemed stretched even though there were minimal diners.
Beautiful old building, was a pleasure to stay here. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was great. Good location directly opposite the cathedral and within easy walk to the river. Comfortable bed, great shower, quiet at night
Staff very pleasant and reception very helpful. The location is ideal, a short walk from the bus stop and high street. The Abbey is just across the road. I enjoyed a very nice evening meal and breakfast was very good, served by friendly staff.
My room was too hot to sleep in, but there was a heatwave so everywhere was hot! Could do with air conditioning.
Excellent value for money and location.
One member of staff spoilt our stay. A young girl working behind the bar on Friday night did not know what the drink "port" was when my husband ordered two. In fact she did not know very much at all. We then had to point a bottle of brandy to take its place as an alternative. There was one man sitting at the bar who the girl seemed to know and she exchanged detrimental glances to him at our expense. This made me very cross as to why we should be treated with such disrespect and I challenged the girl as to what she was doing whereupon we were verbally set upon by this thug at the bar who swore at us and got up physically challenging us. My husband is 76 years and a quarter of this thug's size. We sat down with our drinks and the thug continued berating us even going outside and thumping the window in a threatening manner. Another young lady came to us apologising profusely about what had happened and she said the thug was known to them and came to the bar each week.
The location was brilliant
Nothing
Great building and location
Room was very warm and heating was on (30 degrees outside)
Traditional breakfast as stated - good
Reception upon arrival could have been less "take it or leave it" regards parking space. Over heating in corridors ( in July!!! ) Room temperature set too high, without ability to adjust, except with special code. Energy costs would appear to be low! Bed mattress too "floppy", with the tendency to eject onto the floor, if sleeping near the edge. Could have a liability problem.
Breakfast ok, location ideal
Ideal for purpose of stay
Excellent location in Tewkesbury town centre with on site parking. Opposite the Abbey. Friendly staff. Cosy atmosphere in the bar. Clean room. Good value for bed and breakfast. No difficulty with noise at night. Free WiFi, on site dining. Fan provided in room.
Brilliant selections
No complaints
Friendly Staff a comfortable roomand great location
Breakfast. My egg and sausage seemed they had be kept warm for some time making them dry
