Everything was to a high standard. Greeted by very friendly reception staff (sorry we don't know the name) when we arrived on the 4th September afternoon

Lovely comfortable, big clean rooms. Beds are extremely comfortable & spacious.

Rooms are a bit dark. Could really do with brighter lighting as found it difficult to apply makeup with the lighting not sufficient. TV also not connected to the WiFi.

Friendly staff, and an excellent location for our stay. Exceptionally quiet at night despite its closeness to the main pub building. Good size accommodation.

Externally the lodges were looking a little tired, and in need of redecoration.

Breakfast service on the Sunday morning wasn’t great. Asked for more pastries to be told no more will be served now even though breakfast hadn’t finished.

The breakfasts were exceptional. We didn't have any evening meals because we were entertained by friends in their own home. Beds were very comfortable. Staff very helpful and cheery.

Nothing at all. We just need to plan our next visit earlier as all the single rooms were taken. We also need ground floor rooms because my friend and I have mobility issues.

Stairs up to the room. Ordered soup and although it was delicious the portion was meagre and bad value for money.There was no decaffeinated tea available for all of our stay. No butter for breakfast on Saturday only flora spread when queried we were told the kitchen had butter however none was brought out for us.

Very clean, comfortable beds, excellent breakfast and the choice available was very good. Also had good car parking facilities. Very friendly and accommodating staff, nothing was too much trouble. Really enjoyed our stay here, very relaxing.

Lovely place to stay. Room was nice and clean. Shower was good . Bed was very comfortable. Food was ok, I would say pub grub. Location was ok, approx 20 min walk into Barnstaple

Desert portions were on the small size. Coffee and cake deal was definitely not worth the price. No meet and greet by staff not even a good morning. No welcome at reception That said, we would stay here again.

Unfortunately I had a room where the window was in the roof so I had no view. I found this detracted considerable to the enjoyment of my stay, and would not book again unless I could be assured of a room with a view no matter how limited!

Very clean room, comfortable bed, everything you would want for a short stay. Breakfast room was fine, could not fault the environment.

Constantly dripping tap in bathroom, noisy environment for dining, it is after all a functioning public house, would have liked smaller meals for those with a small appetite. Do not disturb notice no use as there was no door handle or hook to hang it on.

Welcoming, clean and comfortable

The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of fresh linnen and towels.

There is a few areas that would benefit from some attention. The carpets in the bedrooms need to be cleaned more regularly, as they are beginning to look tired. The lighting in the bedrooms could also be improved to make the rooms feel brighter and more welcoming. The pub area particularly needs attention. The flooring is in need of replacement throughout especially the carpets and rugs. The glass, mirrors and windows were noticeably dirty and require an urgent deep clean. Addressing these issues would make a significant difference to the overall appearance and guest experience.

Unfortunately the smell of dampness in the room was unbearable, you couldn't open the windows due to safety issue, had to open front door to let some air in! Didn't sleep well as room was so hot, uncomfortable mattress, sofa bed oh dear, our son couldn't sleep on it! Metal bars digging in! Poor light, one above the bed was falling off the wall. Wouldn't recommend.

Rooms were a good size and clean, the towels were nice and white and clean, the shower was very good. We stayed in one of the outbuildings because we had a dog with us and was very pleased with the room. The outside space was good and plenty of grass to walk the dog plus there was a small park which you could access from the car park. Staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were good and plenty to choose from and they were happy to do whatever you asked for provided they had the goods.

The property was big , they could accommodate a lot of people plus conferences and weddings

The room was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. Electric charger was available to charge our car.

I didn't realise that there would be a room above us and we were woken by footsteps and noise when the occupants above us came in from a night out. We soon drifted off back to sleep though.

Couldn't open window on room, stuck with paint so room was stuffy. Leek in ceiling of bathroom when we returned from a birthday party at 1am. Water dropping from ceiling. Went down to say it to the staff and a member came up to check it. Said he wouldnt be able to fix it until morning and offered to move us to a another room which we declined as it was 1am in the morning and didn't feel like packing our cases at that time of the morning. But there was no other offer of compensation for the inconvenience. Couldn't even use the toilet without getting wet

Nice size room. Large wet room (we had a room for disabled people). The pub was very nice. Close to a bus stop that takes you into Barnstable in around 5 minutes

The beds were very high. There wasn’t a lot of room to put your toiletries,would have been nice to have a shelf or cabinet. The room was very dark, more powerful bulbs needed as we had no sun in our room

The dining area was lively with a happy atmosphere but the rooms were quiet so you could sleep well. The area around the hotel was really pleasant to sit outside.

We stayed in the motel-style rooms, were woken 3 times in the night by the sound of vermin (most likely rats) in the ceiling cavity. When we checked out that morning we told the receptionist who seemed very disinterested. With a 7 hour drive ahead of us I was shattered and was not impressed.

On arrival children running around unsupervised whilst parents sat in the garden drinking & not concerned re what they were getting up to . Not sure if like this every Sunday pm but if weather permits I'm sure it does .

Nothing really. We booked for 3 nights but had to move rooms after the first night due to a leaky roof in the courtyard block following a heavy storm but the staff were excellent and we were offered a complimentary upgrade to a superior room in the main building, which was a nice gesture.

Breakfast and evening meal deal was well worth the money. Excellent breakfast, first morning, second morning no orange juice, melon or yogurt.

Evening meal was freshly cooked and even after booking a table for 18.30 had to wait an hour first evening and second evening told we would have to wait 45 mins after our booking time was 18.30 did not get out main meal until 20.45. They were busy but obviously took on too many bookings.

Very reasonably priced for accommodation and the amazing breakfast. Great value for money. Very helpful and friendly staff in an ideal.location to explore North Devon. Will definitely book again if in the area. Plus Dog friendly! 🐾

Ottimo soggiorno, camera spaziosa, pulita e ben arredata. Bagno soddisfacente con una grande doccia. Colazione abbondante dolce a buffet e salato su ordinazione. Abbiamo cenato al pub della struttura e ci siamo trovati molto bene.

Se dobbiamo trovare il pelo nell'uovo, riportiamo che la finestra del bagno non è apribile.

Good location, most of the staff are friendly and welcoming. Rooms had everything needed, little dated in places.

Breakfast wasn't as good, there was a limited choice of prepared fruit, some pasties undercooked, cooked breakfast wasn't very hot and some items really overcooked, sausages hard in places.

It was in a great location. My room was cleaned everyday. The staff were very polite and helpful. It has lots of parking and even electric car charging stations which was great as I had an electric car.

The one thing that let it down for me was breakfast. I only ate there once but was disappointed. I had continental breakfast. There was hardly any selection, no fresh fruit other than a banana. No selection of pastries other than a chocolate twist. I would have liked a latte but they don’t get served until 11am.

It’s the second time I have stayed at the Cedars in a month. I like the feel of the place and the staff are all friendly and efficient.Its nice to sit out in the garden and have a drink. I hosted a meal for seven and was relieved to find the prices reasonable! Good selection at breakfast and the hot breakfast was cooked well.

Some of the garden furniture has seen better days.

The meal i had in the restaurant, firstly i had an hours wait from the time of ordering, then the meal turned up with different vegetables, as they had run out of what was on the menu, i cut open the meat which was cold in the middle, this was returned to the kitchen, and was told a fresh meal would be prepared after another long wait the second plate turned up and again cutting into the meat it was again cold, and inedible, i was asked if i wanted to wait for a third attempt, i said no just let me have the bill, so that evening i went without food, not a great recommendation for your kitchen

Attention to detail by staff was seriously lacking. Staff breaking the kitchen cardinal rule of going 'in' the 'out' swing door!!! Casual, unprofessional front desk and waiting staff. Breakfast was a different experience on each day, some good, some not so good ... Freezer breakdown over the weekend No excuse when there is a Sainsbury's just down the road and open on a Sunday!!! No sight nor sign of any managerial oversight, if there was .... It was a poor show.

The room was clean and adequate. What let's it down is the lack of care to keep the outside clean and tidy, dirty tables in the garden and trees and shrubs need cutting, it lacks care and attention. It could look so much more appealing if the outside space was looked after more, first impressions count.

Really noisy rooms, could hear every creak from my neighbours. No climate control in rooms so need to open the windows for any air. Food not good. The burger was extremely low quality meat could see it in the texture and the flavour was .....weird. Brakes supplier standard or lower im guessing. Could really do better than that.

Some lovely vegan options at dinner and breakfast. Receptionist when we checked in was very friendly and kind and professional. The room was well appointed, clean and with all the amenities I would expect, including USB plugs alongside power outlets. The staff in the restaurant/bar where nice and as we had someone with an allergy they were very thorough in checking allergens in the food for us. The size of the restaurant/bar was good too and we were able to enjoy dinner outside in the leafy beer garden.

I would have preferred a room that didn't have stair access due to the weight of my luggage, but honestly other than that it was perfect!

Breakfast was good, with good service and food choice. Room big clean tidy slight problem with flushing WC. Dinner was good, reasonable choice of drink and food with very pleasant hard working staff.

bar was a bit understaffed at busy times, which made for some interesting results of orders, but they had been working hard.

Location and rooms are great

Not as dog friendly as it was when I visited in April Dogs no longer allowed in the breakfast room or restaurant, therefore relegated to the Pub which wasnt very nice. We then had to move away from the toilets because of the stench

The room was lovely and big with a nice comfy bed.

There was a window in the slipped roof. It was difficult to open (it was very warm on arrival and needed to be aired) but I was then unable to close it properly. I asked a staff member to close it for me before I went to bed.

It felt nice on arrival with people enjoying a drink in the sunshine under coloured umbrellas. Our room was large with a sitting area with a flat screen tv as well as the sleeping area. Green King Inns follow a formula what differentiates the is who is running the individual Inn and the staff working in them . We found all the staff we encountered friendly and helpful.

Dinner service was terrible. Meal was very average, portions were smaller than expected. Our room was very stuffy and needed air circulation so we opened the window and propped the door open.

Room could do with a little spruce up , one of the sinks had been cracked and repaired badly and one of the window latches was broken off , nothing major just need a bit of TLC to bring the room up to great.

The hotel was really busy but the service in the restaurant was very good. The premises were quite noisy but because the rooms are set apart they were very quiet. It was a perfect much needed respite.

I didn’t like that some customers took advantage of the hospitality and left their rubbish.

The location for Barnstable is good, and the property is located in a nice leafy suburb. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was large.

The reason for our low rating is the false advertising used to market the 'superior room'. We checked in, were given our keys and then arrived to the room to discover a very different one to the one in the pictures. We specifically booked that room due to the separate roll top bath and walk-in shower (due to disabilities), and the ornate antique furniture and sofa space. The room we were given was very different, and included a shower over a small cheap bath (so not useable due to disabilities), plus broken windows (see photos) and no sofa. It was rough and damaged in places, and looked very tired and worn. There was also a tacky soap dispenser like those found in cheap motels. Nothing screamed 'superior' at all. We went to reception to explain that we seemed to have been given the wrong room, only to be told that the room in the photos was actually their bridal suite, their very very best room. That suite was in use. We then asked why they were using photos of the 'very very best room', and also the only room of its kind in the building, as their example of a 'superior room', when the rest of the rooms don't look anything like it?! The receptionist could not answer our questions and did not seem willing to offer any remedy to the discrepancy. This is completely false advertising. It was too late to book anything else so we had to stay in the room. We also had a sub-par meal in the restaurant below which added injury to insult. We will not be staying again, despite working in Barnstable a lot. Our three point score is for the bed itself, which was incredibly comfortable, and the one redeeming feature of the room.

Clean and comfortable rooms. The reception staff were very welcoming and responsive to making room adjustments where possible.

Nothing specific. Some of the upstairs rooms away from the main pub building were up a steep flight of internal stairs and had over bath showers. Not suitable for the person I was travelling with or anyone with mobility difficulties. Reception staff were very responsive in trying to find a more suitable ground floor room with a shower. It is worth knowing this ahead to be able to check a suitable room is available before booking. The upstairs rooms away from the main building do get very warm in the hot weather.

The room was pleasant, there was a large bathroom

We had to climb concrete stairs to get to the room, they were not very clean. The bed was very high, I had a job to climb in. The bathroom had no shelf for our toilet bags and very thin toilet paper.
