Everything was very good with our stay
Property needs renovating. It a bit tired and tatty in places. It was clean and staff friendly.
Beautiful building, perfectly located for any visit to the Cotswolds. The breakfast is excellent and very good value for money. The staff are very friendly and courteous. Can’t recommend it enough.
Convenient to Cotswolds way
Friendly staff and great food. Quiet and clean room.
Comfortable and convenient location for the Cotswold way
Nice food. Spacious room and bed. Lovely and clean. Very nice breakfast.
Lots of potential to be a lovely place. Let down by below standard service , and cost cutting
Rooms are a bit tired and dated but quiet and the bed was comfortable. Excellent shower. Food was pretty good - it’s pub food but fairly priced. All in all, pretty good value for the price.
Friendly welcome, lovely rooms, good food and beer.
All the staff were very helpful and friendly. Cannot fault them.
Really good stay, breakfasts excellent, room also very good, everyone friendly
Very pleasant atmosphere with good service and choice from bar and restaurant. Nice clean room with really comfortable bed. Could have had some better soap/shampoo items in bath room given price. Excellent staff and food.
Lovely place to stay. The room was very comfortable and the dinner and breakfast was excellent. Lovely walks too. The staff were very friendly. Hope to come back another time.
busy evening but staff still pleasant and efficiet, good size room with everything expected. Warm as no air con andsmall windows, but everything worked, good nights sleep
We had everything we needed here and the staff were very helpful. We were walking the Cotswold Way and this place is right along the path. They also offered trail lunches. It’s nothing fancy but a nice meal, bed and bath and great service made it a really good stay.
Lady at reception very welcoming and friendly. The hotel itself is a little tired looking but our room was great, clean and comfortable. Went to the bar for a drink but found the bartender extremely unfriendly and in a bad mood. Paid extra for breakfast the next morning which was very good. Would definitely stay here again.
Nice hotel, great amenities
Was great to stay here for one night on our way through the area. Good room and great breakfast
Very comfortable and clean
There was nothing around to walk to or look at. Sad area.
Very friendly staff. Great pub snd restaurant. Had a great local, neighborhood feeling.
Simple and easy , the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful ,
Great property. Amazing rooms and restaurant was lovely.
Excellent, easy check in , Room was perfect, bar , food, service, great . Definitely will recommend
.
The stay was very good but I wasn’t happy to see staff carrying glasses and jugs with their fingers in the glassware.
Lovely place, but showing it’s age
Shower was excellent. Pub and food were great. Breakfast services was poor. Rooms could use some tlc and more electrical plugs. Overall it was fine.
Beautiful area and wonderful place to stay. Room had a sunny terrace beside beer garden and walks out through woods. Food was excellent and served very quickly. We really enjoyed it here. The staff were really friendly and efficient too. We felt very welcome.
Second time I've stayed here, only issue is breakfasts seem to be a bit disorganised; both times I've stayed here, I've been forgotten! Having said that, every staff member is super friendly, and super helpful and the rooms are comfortable and clean. I'm in the area at least once a month for work, so I'll continue to stay here, as the bed, breakfast and dinner deal is great value and keeps our accounts dept happy! Just don't forget me at breakfast! 🙂
This hotel met all criteria for an overnight stay. A nice garden to have a beer in, lovely restaurant and room, great breakfast and easy parking. Our superior had a four poster bed too! Bathroom facilities were not amazing; best described as functional. Good value for money.
Hotel was exactly what one would expect from a decent pub chain - nothing to rave about but nothing to really complain about. Only limitation is that although it claims to have “Accessible” rooms there are no walk in showers nor support rails for disabled persons
All good apart from dinner which had tasteless vegetables- presume frozen.
The hotel was very noisy in the first half of the night , but from about 11pm it seem to quiet down. Bed was very comfortable and the hotel itself was beautiful and charming..
Very friendly staff. It was very clean. The restaurant was amazing. We had really good dinner and breakfast.
Lovely hotel with friendly staff. Had everything you need, kettle, iron, hairdryer, towels. Breakfast was fabulous. Good location for visiting the Cotswolds.
Lovely countryside hotel, decent quality room with good bar and restaurant. Everything needed for a short stay. Will book again in the future.
Lovely overnight stay would definitely recommend
Lovely old stone hotel. Enjoyable evening meal. Cooked breakfast was delicious, cold buffet breakfast was very sparce glad i had the cooked breakfast. Lovely 4 poster bedroom number 35 great bathroom. Friendly staff.
The room facilities weren’t great. The unsecured Wi-Fi doesn’t pass cyber security measures and there was no effective mobile signal. The TV and radio channels were extremely limited to only BBC, ITV, And C4/5. The room wasn’t hoovered during the stay. Power sockets were hidden behind tables so charging phones was difficult. The shaver power socket was dead. There were no tissues in the room. Given the lack of facilities, it was a challenging stay for a solo traveller (two of my four nights) and it made planning the days out harder. It would have been useful to have more details about what was going on locally - including that the very nearby English Heritage Roman Villa was closed but the local area was great. The staff were ok - not massively friendly. For a Greene King property it was either sad or amusing to overhear them heavily criticise Fullers pubs. It felt like the property was more orientated to weddings and events rather than stays. The food was a tad expensive for what it was.
Good stay
Overall venue and staff were great. The hotel room i stayed in looked a little tired and dated, but very clean. Will use again when in the aeea
comfortable rooms, excellent location for visiting our family in Cheltenham, right on the Cotswold way which we wanted to walk. Food excellent
Did nkt stay as either Hotels.com blipped on sending confirmstion or the Royal Georve missed the confirmation emsil onThursday when I booked it. Advised on Saturday nothing received from Hotels.com .did not want to stay elsewhere. Waitibg for afvice from Hotel.
Was just after new year so menu in bar a little limited. Room comfortable and warm
Great character property, with stay here again
The stay was good, but it was a very cold day and on checking in the room was not warm, mainly because the radiator was only on very low temperature.
Lovely place to stay, nice, comfortable and quiet.
Although warned about a party, the noise was very loud by our window. Bathroom needs uodating
Good sized room, noisy banging doors from other people early in the morning
Enjoyed my stay generally all very good and will be staying again
friendly and welcoming staff. Both for the hotel interactions and also in bar and restaurant. The room was clean and tidy and was a great space for my few days stay. Would recommend and revisit
Lovely hotel. We had 3 rooms for our family stay. Very friendly and welcoming service. Individual comfortable rooms. Great breakfast choice. Most enjoyable stay and will be back nextvtime we are in the area. Highly recommended.
Great pub/hotel with fabulous meals - best steak pie in a long while. Breakfast also good - made to order.
Electric charging points weren't working. Don't think they have been everytime we have been. Food was excellent. Saturday evening service was very slow though..Waited 60 minutes for our food. I apreciate they were busy but 60 minutes for a burger and gammon was a bit excessive. Have stayed here a number of times. Lovely place. Will stop again.
Good size room in a quiet location The staff are very friendly and the food menu and quality was great Bathroom shower was a little awkward being in the bath with no grab rails when getting in/out All in all a good hotel and competitively priced
One night business stop over Bit tatty Poor WiFi Greene King pub food average.
Stayed lots of times, some of the rooms need updating but some of the other upmarket rooms are very nice. Always nice food and a good breakfast
Very close to the Cotswold Way, but the last bit of walk into Birdlip along the road was close to the roadway.
A wedding reception. Excellent.
Overall the experience was good BUT there is NO lift AND there is plenty of room for one to be installed. The stairs are awkward with luggage.
Hotel is in a lovely location. We were able to join the Cotswold Way from the grounds of the hotel to go for a walk which had stunning views! The hotel room is clean, comfy and quite spacious. I would say it is a little tired in places however it hasn't spoilt our trip! We ate in the restaurant on Sunday evening and the food was delicious! Overall, a very enjoyable trip!
Great hotel in a perfect location.
Lovely quiet wee village. Our room had two single beds and they were very comfortable. Nice bar with a lovely outdoor dining area. An enjoyable stay. Recommended.
The actual hotel is idyllically situated in a gorgoues cotswold village location, the venue offers a lovely bar and dining experience as well as a more formal dining room ... and that for us is where the loveliness began and ended. With the cost of things the way they are in this current day, we accept that nothing is cheap anymore and at best, trying to get value for your money is a struggle to say the least. So, we paid our £120 for a double room (Not inc breakfast) and whilst the rooms was okay, it was certainly in need for some TLC to say the least. To fair, it was clean(ish) and the bed was comfortable but again, thats where the good ends. The decor is beyond tired, the bathroom was really shabby (indluding a dented bin and a horrible plastic wall mounted hand pump), the bedding and furnishing is in great need of replacing and the television and remote (that was held together with sellotape) simply needs removing, binning & replacing. Our overall stay was nice enough but I'd rather have paid a little more and recieved a little more. I guess it just about does what it says on the tin. How ever, marketing as a wedding venue is questionable... when spending any money these days you really do want to feel the guest is the priority. We dined in the bar, we found the menu & food to be lovely, the staff were all super too ... a shame that despite several requests from other guests previously that they don't offer a cheese board dessert option but other than that, a really de
Just perfect. Great location for the entire SW region. Rooms excellent as was the food
Overall, the condition of the accommodate is tired and is of need redecoration. The bathroom was clean but the shower head was inappropriate for female guests and the bath tape dropped all night. The restaurant was was in poor set of repair, the tables were damaged and not well cleaned. Cutlery was in a used state with only one size for all courses!
The hotel room was lovely, we had a family room and was so spacious and clean. It was very warm in the room due to the 30degree weather and there was a nice suprise of a fan in the room! We will definitely be staying again.
Comfortable and quiet room, friendly and approachable staff, plenty of space in the on-site car park.
Bed was comfy and room clean and quiet but decor and bathroom fittings quite dated and would benefit from a refurb to bring up to modern standard. Room pricy for the overall quality.
Once we were in the hotel everything was very good with no real complaints except that a breakfast earlier than 8am would have been much appreciated to facilitate a days walking ahead of us. The hotel was exceptionally clean and tidy and the reception staff were very helpful and friendly. What would have been really good would be the ability to communicate with these outstanding professionals in person, at the booking and confirmation stage. Having to navigate the online system that did not (seemingly) enable me to book breakfast with our bed and have to book an evening meal via another website in some sort of Krypton Factor test that left me in need of another weekend break but alas, too exhausted to book! The inability to easily confirm our booking (in a 30 second phone call say) meant that there was a anxiety-laden anticipation of whether we had a room for the night right up until the moment we engaged with the Reception Manager. Overall, we had lovely and highly recommendable stay. Thank you very much. PS. It's good to talk!
Very nice place
Good stop off on Cotswolds Way walk - good standard accommodation, friendly staff. Breakfast was very good and our evening meal was good value for traditional pub fayre. A good stay.
Traditional Pub rooms a bit dated but okay. Comfortable food reasonable and good value.
Friendly staff clean easy parking room a bit dated.
Lovely hotel, and fantastic staff. My bed was super comfy and they gave me loads of pillows (a necessity that most hotels neglect to provide). The room was quiet, and I slept like a baby. The bar is great. Dining room is pretty standard, the food was fine.
Lovely local area. Room warm, clean and tidy. Breakfast was really, really good. - No sockets by the bedside. Couldn't charge devices over night there. Appreciate it's an old building. Cables could be run around the side though?? - On arrival, staff made us feel like an imposition. We ordered food from the bar (chips) but then a live band started playing and it was impossible to hear one another. We (2 of us) asked if it would be possible to sit in the restaurant area where it was quieter (there were still guests there from earlier). The member of staff we spoke to was rather unkind about it all. A simple "Really sorry we can't... You could try sitting..." would have been totally fine.
Lovely stay in historic hotel. Bar and eating are downstairs was welcoming and fun - food was good. Lots of Parking.
All good except for a function with a basis on first floor landing was a little intrusive and the smokers on the doorway not good
Stayed in supreme room but wasn’t very comfy bed on TV didn’t work the batteries need replacing in the remote control
Superb welcome from reception. For the price we paid, a very comfortable night's stay. Room was definitely dated but very clean and serviceable. Excellent breakfast in the morning! Very easy to drive into Cheltenham.
Busy but quiet, good selection for continental breakfast. Comfortable.
Could have been a lovely quaint place to stay but the customer was bottom of the list of priorities and made to feel like an inconvenience.
One night stopover. Selected for economic pricing and realistically you get what you pay for. Older pub with rooms. Superficially tired but kept clean and spruced up in some places with new paint. Exterior has scaffolding (December 23) but it shows owners are investing in maintenance. Staff were pleasant and polite. Evening food came out quickly but suffered from Green King supply chain. I had three starters and no main course. The breaded mushrooms were the worst I can ever recall. Texture of rubber and tasted of water. The pate was OK but covered in thick slab of fat (which some people like). Garlic bread was fine. Breakfast was good - cooked and cold option. If your expectations are reasonable then this place is fine for the money
Unfortunately, a rather tired and neglected building, in urgent need of updating. Our room was damp, the overriding smell of which permeated everything. Uncomfortable beds (twin bed room) and the bathroom also smelt damp and was in dire need of a good clean and air. Breakfast was good and staff were friendly.
Lovely room, nice big bed that I found comfortable - large bathroom and bath. Quiet in room, everything you'd need/want. Shame about some of the portion sizes in the restaurant and lack of many items on the menu.
A lovely place, will definitely be coming back for another stay.
One night business stop over
Overall good comfortable stay
Overall good but long wait for dinner and had to queue for drinks
Staff on Saturday evening were uninterested and just wanted to leave for home. Appearance was poor.
Overall, it was a decent stay (for the lower price). There’s a walking path with views that runs behind the property. The food was really good, though service in the restaurant was terrible; the service staff were all pretty inexperienced and rude. Still, good food though! The room was all that you’d expect.
Beautiful Period Hotel....enjoyed the stay! Thanks!
It is a fine old building in a lovely part of the country. The reception staff were very helpful, even assisting us without question to change rooms when we found the room we were given had a small window and was dark and with little fresh air. Poor lighting was a feature of both rooms, with bulbs being severely low wattage or just not working. Room cleaning was great however. We were a little bemused by one or two bar staff, who seemed to be untrained in good bar work such as noticing their customers in order of appearance and remembering them from one round to the next. Breakfast - Continental - was good. Overall, a mixed experience that could have been better with a little extra time and care at all levels.
The hotel is OK, looking a bit tired in places, but perfectly good for a couple of nights. The problem seems to be in the restaurant. Both nights there was something forgotten from the order. We sat at the same table both nights and the same bit of food that obviously fallen off someones plate was there both nights. Breakfast food was good but how an organisation the size of Greene King can't manage to have proper de-caff coffee is beyond me (we were given a sachet and a pot of hot water and told to make it ourselves). I also heard one person told that they don't have de-caff tea. They can buy a pack of that in a supermarket and put it in a pot... Overall it was OK for 2 nights but the restaurant is pot luck.
The room was spacious and comfortable but noisey being near the reception. The doors squeaked everytime some came through to the rooms. The whole experience was mixed. Some staff were happy in their jobs and helpful but others were just going through the motions. The breakfast was good, restaurant and bar food okay.
The fried fish for dinner was not good. I left most of it. I didn't complain at the time because I didn't have confidence it would be nicer next time. The photo of the front makes the place look nicer than it is
Staff at reception, in the bar and who clean the hotel rooms were excellent. All friendly and welcoming. Great to have pub facilities for eating and while the food is average at best, it's convenient. Great location to visit everywhere across the Cotswolds and easy access to the M5. Room was cozy, comfortable and quiet and we would definitely stay here again.
