Breakfast was good with friendly staff
Very tired room with no natural daylight. Holes in bottom of doors
Central location
Terrible experience - we checked into this pokey, poorly maintained hotel and were told by staff there was a big party taking place next door that would make room noise so bad until 11;45pm that we would need ear plugs. Went into our rooms and immediately knew we shouldn’t stay; left 20 mins later and gave them the keys, booked elsewhere; they have flat out refused to refund or even compensate us. Simply terrible.
Friendly staff, very good breakfast and evening meal.
Creaky floorboards on landing and in bedrooms. Bedrooms are tired.
Excellent location, good breakfast, lovely staff, great service
Room small and dated, corridor to room dated in
Location
Good location. Friendly pub
Dog and people friendly
Breakfast was a expensive
Lovely staff, very pretty building. Good price for the Area.
Everything in the room with the exception of the bedding and towels was grubby, to give an example I splashed water on the bathroom floor, when I dried it with a towel it became brown and filthy, dust in all the corners and edges everywhere you looked. The hotel is situated on an extremely busy road so having the windows open means getting no sleep, there is no air conditioning so having the windows shut means it is so hot you can’t sleep, as the most basic requirement of a hotel, even a reasonably priced one is a good nights sleep this is really a completely unacceptable situation .
Fair not hot enough not very tasty
It was tired needs a overall
The staff were all friendly and helpful . The food was good and the bed was super comfy.
In need of renovation.
Location was great, at the top of the town, just over the road from the town centre. The staff were wonderful. The room was OK. The shower was nice. The food served at breakfast was well-cooked (to order), and fresh fruit, cereals & fruit juice were available. The breakfast room was very pleasant.
Although the room wasn't too bad, the windows were only single-glazed, which meant that the noise was unbearable from a ridiculously loud birthday party that the pub/hotel was hosting in a permanent structure in their garden up until 11.45pm. For some reason the net curtains were about 30cm too long for the window, making it harder to open and shut the windows. The communal areas/corridors were a bit scruffy and not always clean-looking. Bathroom was not in a good state and looked a bit dirty - needs freshening up.
Great location, easy parking restaurant on site gave us discount and food was very good
Nothing, everything was good, especially at this price
Great position in the centre of town lovely bar and character
Some parts were a little tired
Friendly staff, great location. A hotel with character.
Room was very warm, there's a fan but no A/C. It was a hot spell of weather.
Perfect central location. Staff were very helpful and friendly!
Good location and decent room
The shower and bed was lovely .
Banbury Town awful, run down, scruffy, untidy, disappointing, luckily Banbury was just a stop over on the way to Bourton on the water.. Breakfast disappointing undercooked. Silly bedside lamps with no on/off on the lead, on/off only at plug low down behind a cabinet!!
I can’t think of anything
Tiny shower that had a dirty soap dispenser. Paint work badly finished. Tape on carpet to cover up a hole. No handle on the bathroom door. The TV was placed on the side on a bit of mdf. Bad finish and layout throughout. Dirty cups in room. Polite staff at breakfast, but the organisation was chaos.
Very good breakfast room was okay and the bed was comfortable staff helpful parking was good good location for what we needed
It could do with a bit of a tidy up in the garden and a bit of maintenance on the property
This place is over 400 years old, and it has old-world charm and character . Staff were beautiful, helpful, and the restaurant below served lovely food. We would stay again...😍
The only thing is, it did not have a lift, when you think about it, lifts were not heard of 400 years ago..🤣
The location was excellent, quite near the city centre, though far enough to be quite, which met with our requirements. The hotel staff were excellent and their advise and support served us very well. The young man who served us breakfast was ever so obliging and friendly, he was a real asset. The food was cooked and tasted lovely, and the choice of menu was very good.
For me, the room fell short of expectation. The shower only dispensed cold water, so the night and morning showers were certainly bracing. The bed was too hard for my liking and prevented me from sleeping comfortably. While visibly the room looked clean, there was a lot of dust around the bed and in the bathroom. I appreciate this is an old listed building, so I did expect some dust. The floor board were old and moved under foot and felt not screwed down properly.
Ver comfortable beds
Shower really old and small. Curtains hanging down in places Sloping room and old furniture
Location to town centre was ideal. Left side of the pub there was dog friendly restaurant and right side had a dog friendly pub. Very old hotel, nice comfortable bed and staff couldn’t have been nicer. Town centre is so nice ideal for a bit of shopping and a bit to eat/drink.
The hot water wasn’t available early (5.30am) on the Saturday and I text the out of hours number but didn’t get a reply. It was ok around 7am, same again on Sunday but didn’t bother texting the number. Internet isn’t great but that’s not just the hotel (I’m with EE). Cleaner missed polishing the big mirror and as it’s an old hotel ceiling stains and ground in dirt on doors/windows etc. In need of updating, but would stay again.
The staff where great, nothing was too much for them.food was very good hotel was clean and tidy, would stay again if down this wa
Nice and clean
It wasn’t the property fault they had a wedding on and that night was a bit loud
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Service at breakfast and dinner was very efficient. Hotel had a lot of character.
The shower wasn't the greatest and produced lukewarm water. Could get hot water in bath but not shower. Was told to wait 20 mins for shower to regulate itself but I wanted a quick shower.
Location and the staff was lovely.
Very noisy fan in the bathroom.
It's a very friendly hotel.also we have been before so we new it was a nice place to stay. They have a lovely beer garden with plenty of benches and parking which is free which is a bonus
We liked everything
Lovely friendly feel , great staff
Nothing
Great spacious apartment, lovely view from the balcony. Beds were comfortable.
Everything was great
Poor wi-fi but not a big issue because not staying for long. Difficult to cool room down because windows only opened a bit
Clean and v good location
Felt uncomfortable with some members of staff
A very comfortable one night stay. We were very happy with our room, which was spacious, light and clean. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly too. A great option for accessing central Banbury. Breakfast is reasonably priced and tasty with a cheap continental option. Drinks in the bar are also well priced.
It is a quirky old characterful hotel but without lifts. Be warned if you have any issues climbing stairs with heavy luggage. Otherwise the hotel is a good option.
Good location for a short stay.
No aircon and it was an incredibly hot day/night. I appreciate that no aircon is common in the UK in a beautiful old building of this age. But just an FYI if others are considering staying here in the heat of summer - they will give you a fan.
Great location, friendly staff who couldn't do enough for us - very welcoming of our 10 year old Cavapoo, too! Lovely food, great breakfast choice and all very reasonably priced! What's not to like?!
Facade is magnificent, staff bye and large very good especially wonderful little breakfast waiter. Location tremendous.
Room very basic and tatty. As everywhere in the building badly in need of love and attention. Shower a disaster. View - scaffolding and filthy roof of event marquee. Such a beautiful historic building being left to deteriorate. Courtyard totally dominated by event marquee and very delapidated small sitting area at back. Reception area awful, like a dark little cubby hole. Staff deserve better. Big shame food and drink cannot be charged to room. Breakfast food was good choice with quality product but chef poor - particularly how to cook sausages , scrambled egg and bacon. All such a shame as the town is great and the hotel could and should be.
Staff very nice
Good location and nice bar and lounge area. Bedrooms clean and comfortable and tea/ coffee available. Free parking a bonus .
Reception was very small area and lacking in a friendly welcome. Hotel needed a bit of sprucing up overall - looked a bit untidy in decoration.
Good location, close to town.
Room ok but took a long time to get hot water to fill bath.
Did not have Breakfast / to Expensive for what we usually have Nice view
No hot water for our first 2 days, Shower in Bath impossible to get into, Need a ladder to get into bed ( to High ). Initially only 1 chair for 2 Guests. Had to turn refuse bin upside-down to use as table for our beverages. Road noise was ridiculous, starting at 6.00am
Különösen kedves és segítőkész volt a személyzet
The location was good, particularly for us, as we had an easy route to Cropredy each day. There was plenty of car parking available at the back of the hotel. The staff were pleasant and efficient, although, for the most part, they failed to go that extra mile.
Our room was small and uncomfortably hot. There was a fan, but no aircon or fridge, and the small window had very restricted opening (health and safety, we were told). We asked if we could change rooms, but the hotel was busy and the only 2 rooms available were smaller and/or hotter. On our first morning, water poured into the room, from the shower above - fortunately it just missed the bed! Staff were pleasant and sorted it out, so that it didn’t happen again. They missed a trick by not offering some kind of compensation- to make us feel appreciated- a free breakfast, bottle of wine or something similar would have been a good move.
Friendly staff at chevk in, room was very clean
Accommodation is tired and gardens in particular need tidying up
Location, and garden. Great staff, always friendly, always helpful. Wonderful breakfasts, great quality, great value for money.
Rooms on the top floor were very hot during the recent heatwaves, but staff did their best with fans in the rooms.
perfect old hotel super great breakfast very nice people
central good value staff very helpful
nothing
Good location and great value for money. Friendly staff. The Sunday roast is recommended.
Cute pub hotel with terrific staff. Very welcoming and friendly. Bed was comfy and bathroom was very clean. Great location at the end of the shopping district. Many restaurants and shops close by.
No air conditioning during the heatwave made it very hard to sleep. One fan barely made a difference because there was no way to get cross ventilation to cool the room. Also shower stall is very small— and I am a small woman!
Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
-
The staff were excellent- friendly and helpful. Breakfast good value. Car parking behind hotel with no extra charges.
The room was very hot. The weather was hot but no air conditioning and the fan provided did not make any appreciable difference.
The hotel was centrally placed and very easy to locate. From reception through to bar serve, restaurant service and food quality everything was first class.
I felt sorry for the service staff trying to serve food to clients who had no table numbers to serve to. Even a numbered spoon service would have helped them deliver the food hot and without trying find their customers in a crowded beer garden. They all tried very hard and deserved a better system to enable them to carry out the food delivery more efficiently.
Friendly staff, room was clean. Nice garden to sit in for a quiet drink in the evening
Could do with a bit of updating, looking a little tired but didn’t impede on our stay.
Centre of town, friendly staff, good service, good food. Fan in room.
Bedroom at front of hotel very noisy. Bathroom tired, shower not great.
Location
Upkeep could be better
Lovely location in Banbury
All good
Bed was comfortable. Staff were nice
The heat. No air con. Hitting head when in shower
The room was lovely and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
Love the building

Great location.
Banging doors. Recommend rubber buffers in the door frames or and adjusting the closures.
Old fashioned but very quirky great staff
Friendly staff Comfy beds Great location Good value for money
The room was very warm
Stara kamienica z krzywymi, skrzypiącymi podłogami. Konieczny szybki remont.
The location was prime and the front desk was helpful.
The rugs smelled a bit musky, and it would be nice if the bathroom doors had a way to close like a tongue and groove. The doors for the bathroom was like a cabinet door.
Good location, friendly staff
Car park had limited spaces so I had to worry that when I went out and came back late at night I would have to park in a space out front and get up before 8am to move my car. Luckily I got the last space.
Breakfast was very good and the location was great and we were happy with the service
We asked for a quiet room but were given one facing a busy main road and because of the high temperatures we were forced to have the windows open it did spoil our stay a bit
Booked 2 single rooms. Nice and clean - very friendly staff. There was a wedding on so they were very busy but not the Ritz but very nice. Happy we stayed.
Perfect location, very friendly staff, clean and very comfortable. Amazing bed. Great breakfast with plenty to choose from
Lovely communication between us before our stay, friendly staff the moment we turned up and during our stay. Lovely room, kept as cool as they could for us. Comfortable, clean and welcoming. We will stay again.
The location to the town wad good.
The hotel was run down and bathroom facilities mouldy. Very cleanliness to be honest. Rooms sweltering hot and very poor night's sleep.. Far too much money for the quality of accommodation
The Cromwell Lodge is located on the west side of the town of Banbury. It is just over half a mile on foot from the railway station just across the busy A361 road. It is housed in a fine old building and whilst the fixtures and fittings are somewhat dated, it was more than adequate for our needs. Our twin room was quite small but the facilities within were decent enough. The bathroom contained a tub and there was plentiful hot water. There was sufficient storage space for clothing, tea & coffee making facilities plus an electric fan which kept the room nice and cool in the current sweltering conditions. We neither ate nor drank at the hotel as we were attending a wedding towards Daventry but enjoyed our stay. We passed £52 for a one night stay which constituted great value.
Took too long to arrive, and was not included in the room.
Whole place needs a good clean and money spending on it.
This historic inn is always a treat, large rooms and comfortable beds so close to everything.
Nothing to complain about
It was convenient to where we needed to be, our room was pleasant if a little hot and stuffy - the beams in the room where not my husbands friend :-) Room had lovely original features which had'nt been butchered Staff were friendly and pre-warned us about the party on the night
You can only check in from 2pm onwards - no leeway, because computer system wont allow it otherwise. We were ten minutes early and we had to wait - a little annoying. I dont think it was clear we were having a bathroom with a bath only. I dont believe there is a lift, so it was a good job my dad was situated on the first floor, we however were up in the gods - which was very quaint, but it was a trek up stairs.....but the room had lovely original features Unfortunately Greene King seem to have ignored they have a beautiful old building in the communal downstairs and some one has gone to town in painting over some original features with horrendous paint, and dotting fairy lights and fake plants everywhere
My car broke down on the way and the receptionist was SO helpful, she told the duty manager what time we'd arrive and he waited up for us and even offered to make us some food. Thanks to Saz and Joey!!
The location, parking on premises and pet friendly. Staff very helpful and welcoming.
Winter duvet on the bed although very hot weather! Pillows not comfortable and I found it very difficult to operate the shower mechanism as it was so stiff, luckily my partner managed to turn it on/off for me!! It’s an old building but the room would benefit from a freshen up and the curtains hanging on the rail properly.
Great quirky old building. Nice room with a fan on a hot day. Recently painted, the carpet was a bit worn but that's OK as it was clean. Staff we really helpful and the food was great with 20% off for quests. This is my second stay and ill be back
Nothing
Lovely traditional building, inside and out. Nice garden out the back and free parking.
I liked everything about it.
Location very good, breakfast expensive for me.
Bar staff could have been more positive.
Heel vriendelijk personeel!
The hotel was ok and fairly quiet.
The rooms were dated and very basic. The outdoor space was quite run down and needs some attention.
Great location. Staff are brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is good,as is service. Had evening meal and breakfasts. Beds are comfy.
No hot water Saturday evening, Sunday morning. Was fine on Friday evening and Saturday morning!
The location was perfect for our stay. Free car parking. Breakfast was nice,
Our room was very small. Very poorly decorated. Mould in the bathroom. Limescale build up on shower head. Hard to differentiate who were staff & who were customers. Very short staffed.
Beautiful building and well appointed rooms. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Pub garden needs some attention
Le calme, le confort et la decoration de la chambre, la salle de restauration et le pub. Petit déjeuner copieux.
Salle de bains ancienne. Besoin d'un petit coup de frais.
De vriendelijke heid van het personeel
Good location Excellent bed and quality bedding Breakfast lovely
Old property uneven floor in bathroom was abit of an issue
Ideally placed in Banbury and good parking included. It is a good traditional English Inn with plenty of character. Very pleasant and efficient staff. Comfortable room and bed.
Nothing
Lunch was excellent, totally forgot that non guest could book a table and walk in less busy days. Really nice food & helpful friendly staff. Well up there with local pub/ restaurants on price, and choice. Had Greene king gift card to use, this was the most local and happy we did. Only issue was some of the lagers/ beers not available here as advertised, I.e Madri, esterella ,bar was well catered other than that with a good choice on tap or bottled. Highly recommend
Nothing
Room too hot, navigating to the room is somehow.
A small breakfast was included. Staff were attentive.
Beds could have been wider, and room was small.
Pas grand chose , une partie du personnel était sympathique..
Presque tout .l'établissement est vétuste . Les chambres sont minuscules , les équipements , et notamment la robinetterie , sont d'une autre époque.
The staff were brilliant. Great location for our needs.
The room was very hot, it really needed to be air conditioned for our temperatures.
Friendly staff great location
As hard as the staff tried the bedrooms were swelteringly hot
Location.
Fire alarm due to someone leaving bath tap on in bedroom above & flooding my room.
Lovely hotel, room and grounds clean and nice room, good breakfast included. We enjoyed it.
Only negative was the event that evening right outside our room. It was fun to listen to though lol.
Good location, onsite parking, very friendly staff
My single room was really quite small and despite providing a fan, very stuffy in the hot weather. There is minimal soundproofing in the property and I could hear every other guest coming and going and most of what was going on in the neighbouring rooms. I was likewise very wary of how creaky the floors in my room were and how that would have sounded to others. Still, it was spotlessly clean and the staff were great - and I did eventually get some sleep.
The staff were pleasant, attentive and helpful
The room really needs updating. We know the rooms were cleaned daily however they did not feel clean as were in desperate need of updating. Value for money was poor and only boosted due to F1 weekend
good hotel, would recomend
nothing. good hotel, good location.

Garden was untidy
