our room was infested with spiders and covered in cobwebs i got a girl that worked there to have a look she couldnt beleive how bad it was so she went for the manager he came back with a feather duster and a lot of attitude not beleiving what i had already shown the girl he said it gets cleaned every day i said not a chance he knocked the dust and spiders down i counted 24 there was no appologising or offering us another room so we got our bags and booked in at the abbey inn round the corner i paid for a room that we never stayed in cause it was so bad
Location was close to attractions.
The traffic noise was loud. Unable to relax or sleep well in the room.
Very welcoming and helpful staff
Location near a busy road.
The Property was situated well in South Hams close to Buckfast Abbey and Newton About.
The property is very tired and in need of renovation. The evening meal was not the best, the breakfast was good. The main issue was the road noise which made it difficult to sleep as the Dartbridge Road is the main road through to Totnes and South hams areas. Earplugs were in the room which did help a bit, but it shows it’s not just us that we’re interrupted by the road noise.
The warm welcome. Comfortable bed and great breakfast.
It took a while before we got served at breakfast. This wasn't the servers fault but the fact that only one person was serving breakfast. Once served the service was excellent, it just took time for the server to reach us.
Staff were helpful on arrival
Fire alarm woke the whole hotel at 2.30 in the morning. We tried ringing the emergency number provided - in room and on external door - but no reply. Therefore someone rang the fire brigade as that was the only safe option to ensure there was no threat of fire and that we could return to our rooms. *It is unforgiveable and seriously negligent that we were unable to contact any member of staff * I really hope that you are lambasted if not actually prosecuted by the Fire Brigade for this. We will obviously never return and will make sure that as many people as possible know what happened. The room was dark and shabby and the bathroom had mildew all around it and the pillows were uncomfortable - not a happy experience - glad we were only there for 1 night. No staff were present when we left in the morning except one person mopping the foor who just said chuck the key in the box - no thank you or even goodbye! Not the way to run a business!
Very friendly and helpful staff. All the staff seemed to be very busy and under a lot of pressure, but still found time to deal with our queries.

Staff were lovely and friendly
Dog friendly room was so far from the exit
A fire alarm activated at 2:20am - totally understand that these things can happen. However, there were no staff present to deal with this. There was a number to call which was tried by several guests and not answered. The guests then had to phone the fire brigade to resolve. There are two main issues with this a) what would have otherwise been an extremely small inconvenience turned into nearly an hour between 2:20am and 3:10am. b) There was no staff present to conduct basic fire safety things like a register of who was and wasn't present. Had there been a real fire, no one would have had any idea of whether guests were stuck inside or not. Raised with the company but they don't appear to be concerned about this.
Good location. Convenient for visiting local haunts. Breakfast Meal deals were good value.
Breakfast waitress spent too long chatting to other other guests rather than concentrating on serving. Bed mattress appeared to be past it's best.
Staff polite. Pub area very nice and evening meal very pleasant.
No air con. Very noisy road (earplugs provided did little to reduce sound of fast moving constant traffic). Gluten-free options at breakfast extremely limited and kitchen staff didn’t seem to have much learning or training in this area.
The Property was situated well in South Hams close to Buckfast Abbey and Newton About.
The property is very tired and in need of renovation. The evening meal was not the best, the breakfast was good.
Evening bar staff were friendly and helpful, foodservice was very efficient. Food ok - standard chain pub fare.
Biggest problem was the appallingly uncomfortable bed, with a mattress that was very cheap or very old, or quite possibly both. The springs could be felt pushing up as soon as you sat on it, so lying on it was dreadful. No sleep. Then, no fresh air really as window, which only opens about 3 inches anyway, opens directly on to massive fans extracting from the kitchen - noise and smell. (These switched off at 9.30 so not really a factor in lack of sleep.) No staff to speak of except during dinner. In the morning we discovered we were basically locked in overnight - presumably because no staff there. My colleague found a back exit, which hadn’t been pointed out to us, but I tried to use the normal route and encountered locked doors everywhere. In my attempts to get through ( this was 7.30 and the website says breakfast starts at 7.00) I was “helped” by 2 very stroppy and fed up staff members. The first unlocked the staircase door for me and was very abrupt. The second let me out downstairs and informed me that I “should have used the back exit” - i.e. and not bothered them. At this point I realised the futility of trying to change my room, and my colleague’s room wasn’t much better in any case (although they hadn’t actually felt the bed springs while trying to sleep, which was obviously a bonus). Not a good experience at this place - unwelcoming and desperately uncomfortable. It’s worth adding that the place is on a very busy main road next to a motorway and there are no footpaths at all. So if you come by bus, you have a 7-8 minute walk which is downright dangerous as you have to cross various busy roads including the slip road off the motorway with very fast traffic. I asked in the hotel about the bus stop - they didn’t know where it even was - and then about taxis, and was told to research local companies but they don’t usually want to come out here. Don’t stay here if you haven’t got a car (or if you like to sleep in comfort) is my advice.
Breakfast lovely, good service
Toilet low& seat wobbly and not stay up.
excellent breakfast
next to busy road
Room was very tired and dated....artex and holes in the walls where a large mirror should have been....hence no mirror apart from the bathroom. Noise from the road kept us awake..complimentary earplugs no use for us. No comfortable easy chair so only the bed for comfort. Breakfast floor had previous days food around the neighbouring table. On checking out a day early no manager was present...we had to tell the young breakfast waiter we we not happy and were leaving a day early. All in all a bad experience for my husbands birthday. We chose this venue as we have been to The Cedars in Barnstable twice and love it. We expected this to be of the same standard. Nowhere near I'm afraid. Such a shame as the photos looked good and the location is so close to Dartmoor.......At the time of booking we have an email stating there would be no extra charge for our request to bring our small dog. However on arrival a charge of £20 for our original two nights was insisted upon. Overall a terrible experience not to be repeated.
The room was bigger than we expected which was great. The bed was so comfy, best nights sleep I've had in a long time. Everything was really clean throughout the whole place. The staff were friendly and polite and the food was fantastic. Great choices on the menu and very reasonably priced.
There was nothing to dislike
Slecht geïsoleerde inn gelegen aan een erg drukke weg. ‘s Nachts wordt het iets rustiger maar toch.
Good location for workplace
Noisy, both front & back rooms, although they did provide free ear plugs
Location good for exploring the area.
A meal had to be sent back as not heated thoroughly. Poor selection of fruit for breakfast.
Room smelt funny and damp walls loud in the morning also
Book in was simple and friendly.
Breakfast. I had enquired about the provision of a gluten free cooked breakfast before arriving and had been assured it could be catered for. I was disappointed that this meant that I was told which parts of the menu I could have and no effort had been put into providing full English Breakfast option. My continental breakfast option consisted of fruit juice and fruit. I was offered a reduced rate on the breakfast without asking but this hardly made up for the disappointing choice available.
The staff were friendly & efficient. The rooms, towels & linen were of a high standard.
The road was unbelievably busy which made sleeping difficult. Signing in we had to wait for a staff member to appear - a bell or something would have been handy to have saved hanging around ! Also would have been nice to have had a couple of comfy chairs/sofas to relax on.
The staff were really nice and welcoming, could not fault them.
It is on a main road which is incredibly loud, there’s also very loud pipes and we could hear the staff playing music in a morning which woke us up. The food is awful, really bad quality breakfast and lunch menu. Our room wasn’t that clean, I had to wash the shower myself before getting in it and the bedroom was very dusty.
Lovely, helpful staff and lovely food fully recommend

Great value, lots of parking, good food, clean room. Perfect for a stopover.

The room was bright and comfortable. Good choice of breakfast and dinner in the evening as well. The ensuite was fine. An the staff was helpful and both meals were served quickly.
The only dowwnside was the room was up in the roof so had to make sure not too bump my head in the room
The staff were friendly, everywhere was nice and clean, good parking and nice choice of rose wine for me (for a change!!) Good breakfast
Very busy road (which we are not used to). We had a room at the front and really didn’t sleep very well. Some of our room furnishings were tired/scruffy/missing (space on the wall which had mirror written on it but no mirror!). Nowhere to walk the dogs from/near to the hotel - road was so busy it would be dangerous!
Room clean and comfortable. Parking easy .
Dinner portion size small for price.
Lovely pub, delicious food.
Bedrooms a little tired.
Lovely warm welcome, very helpful staff. Good food and drinks service, thank you.
Very hot room and noisy, as overlooked the main road. However, there was a fan and ear plugs in the room on arrival, which was thoughtful, although if I stayed again I would choose rooms 1-5 as they are at the back.
Location and staff
Noisy extractor fan outside bedroom window. Ear plugs provided. Blind at dormer window split and catch broken and had to hook it on a screw to keep it down . Mattress down at one side. Could see where roof been flooded
Good food and pleasant staff
Room very dark with overhanging trees ,and the free ear plugs was a hint about very bad road noise.
Clean and comfortable nice location
Nothing
The food was beautifully prepared. The old style of the building was lovely.
The road noise was too much, even with the ear plugs provided. The room, although cute, was tiny!!
Great helpful staff and a good breakfast
Close to the main road so a bit noisy, but fine
Tidy ,neat, clean room had a fan .
Too noisy .but ear plugs provided
Good size room, good shower, done areas a little tired. 1st evening meal and service was great, lovely young lad that appeared to be there all the time, very helpful and good at his job. Good breakfast.
2nd night meal was not so good, took our order, forgot to put through starter, bought out main then took away said would keep warm, then returned to say no starter available so bought meal back out, food was dried out with very little taste, the lad from the pervious evening was not around - and it was noticed!
Very good breakfast
No shade/curtains on the velux window
Great location just off the main route. Lots of free parking, dog friendly
Room was missing a hairdryer. The room was very hot, a fan was provided which we were grateful for, but the window only opened slightly, with it being a room in the roof, it was extremely warm. Squeaky doors and floors made it a noisey night time walk to let my dog out in the night, which made me feel bad for disturbing other guests.
Lovely pub and nice room. Excellent for our 1 night stay on the way down to Cornwall. Staff were very accommodating
My husband is 6 foot 4 and the double bed was quite small
Personnel sympathique, lieu agréable
Literie vieillissante
Breakfast was nice. Plenty of tea and coffee. Bed was big and comfortable.
Water pressure was very poor in the shower. No air conditioning. Food for dinner was mediocre. The whole place was quite shabby (cleaning items stored in public areas, paint peeling, windows grubby, broken button on toilet flush).
Very friendly staff, good parking and location
No lifts, I was in Room 6 with a lot of bags and there were 3 sets of stairs to contend with. Shame that no one offered to help me
Really clean rooms and lovely breakfast.
Could have been better if I had a fridge in the room.
Fairly decent breakfast, great staff!
Sleepless nights because of the road which is unfortunate!
Clean and suited to our needs
Breakfast expensive.£22 is a high price for choice of English or continental breakfast. Some items missing off evening menu.
food was poor, good parking, staff on arrival not friendly. breakfast staff friendly but food very over cooked and not a good choice, only had it the once.
not welcoming and food horrible, as its out of a town it made eating a big thing as had to travel to a location to eat.
Locality to the A38,
Rooms a little small too much furniture for the size of the room
Up for a wedding as this was just the right place as family live 5 mins down rd.
Nothing
The best hotel i ever saw and i really enjoyed when i stayed there, nice, clean and very nice staff.
The room was ok, fairly comfortable, and thankfully at the back of the hotel, so cooler in the heat. Location was good for touring local places of interest. Parking in the rear car park made access to the room much easier, being on the same level.
We stayed here 20 years ago and remember wonderful food, beers, and a colourful appearance with flower baskets all over the front of the hotel. The road outside was much busier now, and the traffic noise was intrusive throughout the day. The floors and tables in the bar were sticky to touch, and not welcoming. But the biggest disappointment was the food, frankly disgusting! We tried a light lunch, but the fish gougons and chicken tenders were all just crispy batter with hardly any protein inside! We tried the evening meal, but little on the bland pub menu appealed, so we just had starters. The king prawn starter had just 4 prawns, at £2 each! I've had more prawns in a prawn cocktail. We were so disappointed with the food we just relied on Sainsbury's Meal Deals for the rest of our 3-night stay! However, the one exception was the cooked breakfasts, which were actually very good, in contrast to lunch and dinner, and served well by Nicole, although the top-ups of coffee had to be requested each day. Clearly the standards here have dived since Greene King took over, seemingly cutting costs to maximise profits. Very sad to see this lovely old pub go downhill. We won't be returning!
Easy to find. Really liked the adjoining rooms with family. Ear plugs were welcome!
It was very hot in the room even with a fan. Other fruit such as berries would have been nice with breakfast.
Lovely spacious room in a convenient location with friendly, helpful staff.
adequate
It is adequate
The room looked pretty, the bathroom was clean, the bed mattress was comfortable.
My partner liked the breakfast but it wasn't good enough for me: no plant based milk, non salmon, and low quality eggs. It was too hot in the room, there was a fan on the desk but it wasn't enough to keep the room at a bearable temperature in summer.
le petit déjeuner (bien que le bacon était trop salé)
le personnel n'était pas très accueillant. Le diner sortait tout droit du congélateur et était sans goût.
Clean & tidy Food was okay
Understaffed
Service very good. Food also very good
?
The staff were very helpful. The dinner and breakfast were good.
The room was unbearably hot such that I couldn't sleep at all. The bed was under a large dormer which meant I couldn't access my normal side of the bed. The traffic noise all night was horrendous. We had to ask for a second towel which was not in the room.
The location was great and the food was good
We went in a heatwave so even with a fan the bedrooms were stifling. If the weather is going to get hotter they need to invest in aircon or better fans.
Very helpful friendly staff. Food good. Comfortable bedroom. Clean. Good location for visiting coast, Dartmoor, local attractions.
Busy A road next to property, so lots of 'road' noise. Including during the night
Nice pub, clean and well run
Nicole at breakfast was the only one on duty she did a Stirling job. The chef was a good cook and our breakfast was lovely. Stayed for a meal and again chef great cook. These 2 should be proud of themselves very good. Barman very good also cleaners did a good bedroom service.
Bedrooms need a total refurbishment. Noisy road level. noise in my room was horrendous. Lavatory was more like a child's size and very low to the ground I suggest putting a grab rail to help older guests get off the loo. Tv , I shouldn't bother if I was you. Floors very squeeking under foot making a right racket. We are a family of 6 adults and we come every year to see family but this year we have noticed a decline you need more staff. 3 nights stay with a paid for breakfast. This last visit will probably be the last time. Shame as it is convenient to my family in Buckfastleigh.
De locatie
Douchecabine heeft iets meer aandacht nodig.
Not much!
By a main road, noisy all night
The staff were very friendly and the Inn's position was ideal for what we wanted.
We didn't sleep very well as there was a lot of traffic noise. There were ear plugs in the room but I couldn't get on with them. At breakfast on both mornings there was only one member of staff on duty. We had to wait quite a while to be met and seated and then to for our order to be taken, our hot food to arrive. The server did really well but there needed to be more staff.
Zeer vriendelijk personeel . z
De hitte (was tijdens hittegolf) op de kamer en het geluid van de straat .
staff were very good - in particular one of the Duty Managers (young male from Plymouth) always friendly cheerful and helpful exit to the car park was good as was on the flat, so no need to carry cases up the stairs
only 1 hand towel, broken bedside lamp, the heated towel rail was left on (in heatwave), room was hotter than the surface of the sun, very noisy due to traffic on main road (as for change of room, but told hotel was full). no tomato juice so no Bloody Mary cocktail, when the till and app went down a few minutes after England kicked off, couldn't get a drink as cash only. Asked for a tab to the room and was told no. had no cash so had to have a soda water and go to bed. asked for well done poached eggs at breakfast but didn't get them. the breakfast pastries were dreadful. no cornflakes available and the bowl of "berrie compote" looked like it had been there all week with just a few cherries in it. IPA on draught (and other lager) was not cold enough
Clean/comfy beds/good shower
Unbearably hot. Small windows that only open maybe 2 inches. 1 fan (asked for a 2nd but think man forgot) NEEDS aircon installed badly in ALL areas!!! Highly recommend.
Room was lovely, food was great, lovely breakfast and Sunday roasts. Traffic noise Was bit much, a back room might have been better
Traffic noise suggesting a speed reduction would be worth while
Small room with sloping ceiling. Facing son, uncomfortably hot. Next to busy noisy road made worse with window open to let air in. Not recommended
No option available for alternative room when complained to the staff.
Location close to pickup main roads and Dartmoor Comfortable rooms for overnight. Staff very freindly and helpful
There are no negatives at this price point
The team were all lovely and very helpful. The room was clean, well decorated, roomy and a nice place to stay
Not much to mention
Nothing I'm afraid.
The rooms were noisy shabby and dated. What we could have had for 3/4 the price was available anywhere. There was rubbish in the grounds and an old fridge. Dirty laundry trolleys next to the rear exit. £For 132 j would say jn current market is worth a refund. Service at breakfast (empty) wS appalling. We were ask to move to another table that was st, ' over there' but we moved and none were set. The waiter wS resentful and had to teturn 4 times with what a trained person would have laid. I'm sadly surprised as I have always acted Greene king, having stayed at many of your places (ncl Southwold) over 30 years and am appalled and requsst a part refund. I took a picture of the fridge near the car park for guests should you want it
The staff at the property were lovely and very helpful they made us feel very welcome, we did have an issue when we arrived but it was quickly addressed without any fuss, it had a lovely relaxing atmosphere, our waitress in the morning Nicola was lovely like we had known her for years, the staff were lovely in the evening Reece was great he was new but had such a great personality and we enjoyed our conversations with him everything was lovely a really enjoyable stay so much so we stayed another night thank you to all the staff.

The room was tiny, the mattress was far too soft and soggy - we tried flipping it over and turning it around but no change-really poor quality mattress. The noise from the road was unbelievably loud-there was double glazing which made no difference at all and if it was a warm summer day and you had to have the window open it would be even louder. It's a fast road along the full length of the building and even at 10pm there was continual traffic. The management provide ear plugs which do not help at all so obviously they've had complaints about the noise before! We left at 11pm and went home as we couldn't bear the mattress and the noise. The place seems to be run by very young people and no sign of a manager.
Good food. Friendly staff.
Hot room with sloping ceiling. Very noisy from road traffic.
Initial greeting and staff very friendly and helpful. Very good dinner and breakfast and good value for money. Convenient location as we had friends to dinner at the hotel and comfy bedrooms and cosy environment. Would recommend.
The bar 'manager' closing the bar at 11am on the Sat night of 6/6 was very unfriendly and rude. It was 2300 and we had ordered some drinks at 2240 and we were finishing them off. At 2300 he said the bar was closed and we must either finish our drinks immediately or take them to rooms. We politely requested 10 mins just to finish them as we could not drink them that quickly. He refused to and then escorted us up to our rooms. His behaviour was bizarre, rude and totally unreasonable as guests to the hotel.
Pleasant helpful staff. Spacious bedroom and reataurant.
Some traffic noise from the adjacent A road. Quite easily assimilated and not intrusive. Quiet during the important sleep times. If possible would prefer a 'quieter' room for any future stay/s.
Everything was good and clean
Great location
Nothing
The room had plenty of space to move around., comfortable bed, good cotton bedding, lovely hot water
Temperature of room on cool side, Some black mildew on shower walls, A bit skimpy with milk sachets in room
Dartbridge inn hotel Buckfastleigh The Atmosphere was great Our room was very nice and we loved the food And the staff was Amazing very friendly Nicola very helpful and made sure my wife had some breakfast for me to take up to her one time my wife didn’t come down for breakfast Definitely would recommend staying here and will ourselves again The only thing I would say is if your staying in one of the front bedroom’s it can get a little bit noisy but the hotel do provide ear plugs
Nothing that I can think of
Staff, food, room
The Inn was welcoming and friendly. The room was spotless and I loved the shower. The bed was very comfortable. We will definitely consider staying again
The service in the restaurant was very very slow. We didn't bother with a dessert. I know it's supposed to be relaxed but 2 hours and only had a main was too slow. Breakfast was short staffed. Only one poor waitress running around. We had to wait an age to sit down but it clearly wasn't her fault.
We've stayed in a few Greene King Inns and it's fair to say they are variable in terms of their physical quality and condition. The Dartbridge Inn was a delight, a charming building which has a period character but has been upgraded tastefully. As usual with this chain, the staff were excellent. Personable, friendly and efficient. They seemed genuinely happy to look after us and were thoughtful throughout our 4 day stay. We were sorry to leave! The food was standard fare, but tasty, hot and well-presented. Breakfast in particular was plentiful and set us up for the day. As I enjoy an ale it was good to have a choice of three on hand pump as well as lagers, stout etc. all at reasonable prices.
Being an old building the floors could be creaky, meaning we heard other guests on the move sometimes. There's a main road close to the property. Our room was towards the back away from this but if you faced into it I imagine there could be quite a bit of road noise.
Location
Food was poor
Location
Staff are helpful and friendly
Nothing that I can think of.
Belle chambre spacieuse. Service impeccable au restaurant.
La sortie du parking, sur un virage dangereux. Les véhicules arrivent à vive allure!
I love the location of the Dartbridge inn, just at the bottom of Dartmoor, easily accessible to the moors and the coast. The food was great and the service excellent. The staff were fantastic and our room was cleaned every day. Well done to Jacob and the team.
The rooms were quite hot but there's not much you can do about the weather.
The look of the Inn and the convenience
The noise of the road. It was good of the Inn to leave us some earplugs (for your convenience), but it was really bad!! And because of the weather (temperatures of 30° it was impossible not to open the windows. A fan was provided ... but didn't give much relief!! ...
I was not too impressed with the breakfast , perhaps it is better earlier .. The girls in the bar and reception were very good trying to find me another room .as I was in 6 at the very top and I am not too good on stairs. But 6 had a walk in shower which I needed.
Floor in bar and restaurant felt sticky and I felt as if someone was following me !!
