Room clean and comfortable, listening to sound of river was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was really good both evening and breakfast.

Clean, friendly staff, good breakfast. The view from Dart over the river was fantastic. I would say the place is suitable for the budget traveller, and that is a positive point. There was just enough of everything to make the stay perfect. The accommodation is part of a great pub that serves good food.

We liked the staff, they were very cheerful, welcoming and friendly. Evening menu very limited choice. We did like the view from the room window, overlooking the river. Breakfasts were OK with food cooked to order, and cereals and juices available.

We didn't like the bed, if was pretending to be a four poster, but sadly failed, more like a DIY flat pack from Wayfair with loose screw connections. The mattress is well worn, with metal springs that you can feel through the mattress cover. The whole of the shower room looks like it was cobbled together by a DIY builder. Whining plumbing noises at varies times during the evening and morning.

Bed was uncomfortable but we couldn't fault the view of the river dart.

Better bed.

Beautiful location by the river, close to Buckfast Abbey and the South Devon Railway. Staff all very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was great, and the beds were very comfortable.

A bit of signage to point you in the right direction to rooms might be helpful. Moorhen room was very warm (possibly gets the sun for most of the day), but there was a fan provided. Extractor fan in the room was particularly noisy, it did stop eventually and certainly didn’t disturb our sleep in the end.

Its location by the river was ideal for relaxing on the terrace, it was popular with locals which gave it a lovely atmosphere

If you have mobility issues it could be a problem as there are a lot of stairs

I love The Abbey Inn. I have stayed there a few times. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The view from our rooms have been stunning. It's a lovely and beautiful place to relax. It's location is perfect for local attractions.

The exterior floodlighting bathed the room in bright light throughout the night, the shower room was tiny.

We have stayed here several times before. We like the location, the friendly staff, and the food is good as well.

Had to unplug kettle or lamps to have socket to charge phone. No sockets one side of bed. Dusty in places behind sofa and around TV area. Shower very small and toilet seat not on straight and loo roll by side of face when sat on loo..Sink taps a bit leaky. Couldn't squeeze shower gel out and was too high. No shelf in shower. Tables outside window but bar closed 11pm so not a big issue. Check in late at 1630. Expensive main meals and soup and crusty bread wasn't great at all.

A lift to the upper floors

The location is second to none right by the River Dart with beautiful views and wildlife from the terrace. Breakfast was delicious in the morning, and the food was excellent in the evening. Very comfortable room where we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the rushing river. Excellent value for money - would definitely stay again!

The only negative was the size of the bathroom, which was quite bijou! That can't be helped in an old building but probably not suitable if you have limited mobility due to the number of stairs. I should imagine the lower rooms would be more manageable.

Room was a little small but adequate & very quiet waking to the sound of the lovely River Dart. Would recommend staying here again x

Decor was quite modern and fresh. Breakfast had a good choice. Friendly and helpful staff. Drink prices were reasonable.

My only criticism would be the bed was very noisy so my sleep wasn’t that good. Every time my wife or I turned over the bed springs would squeak quite loudly.

We had dinner and breakfast the following morning. Both meals were very well cooked, were the correct temperature and produced quickly.

There was nothing of note that we would change.

Thank you had a really lovely stay at The Abbey Inn. From when we arrived we were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. We stayed in the “Dart” room and it was perfect, sound of the river so relaxing and comfy room that was well thought out. Great breakfast, nice easy going staff and relaxed vibes… We hope to come back soon!

Great location for what we needed. Room was nice with fantastic full length window overlooking the river. Breakfast was excellent and service very nice too.

Mattress let the room down badly and has been mentioned by other reviewers for some time. Surely the first thing you would do when improving the room. Bad smell in landing outside room. Carpet between bar area and room old and dirty. No free sockets in room.

Loved the view and sound of the river outside my bedroom window.

The only thing I was disappointed with was the bar and restaurant being closed through the day and there was nowhere nearby to have lunch.

The Staff are welcoming and friendly. The room was a nice size and very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and the whole room was very clean. The breakfast was exceptional and very filling for the day ahead.

Room above kitchen extractor fan, noisy & smell. Lights outside left on 24/7 so lit room all night. Plug in sink didn’t hold water, had to refill sink 6 times to have a wash, general lack of hanging in bathroom and small space to move around. Breakfast overcooked and items missing most days, limited availability.

Pleasant staff and atmosphere. My room was spacious and comfortable and a welcome retreat after a heavy day. I was impressed that the female breakfast attendee was able to remember me and my circumstances from a previous visit.

I found the lighting in my room to be somewhat dim and would have liked to have been able to fully secure my room with a deadlock on door.

Bed wasn't too comfy.

The location, with a very quiet room overlooking the River Dart. The room was large and very clean. Dinner was delicious and there was an excellent cooked breakfast the next morning. Friendly and helpful staff.

Lights unnecessarily left on outside the hotel all night (my pet peeve - I need a dark room to sleep properly). The bed was comfortable but a lighter duvet option would have been appreciated as I was a bit too hot. The shower had plenty of hot water, but the water pressure was weak, so not very satisfactory. I was kept awake for much of the (windy) night by the sound of an unfastened door/window banging somewhere in the building.

It was a beautiful location, clean with good food and a very nice breakfast.

The staff did everything possible to make us welcome. Room overlooking the fast flowing river and easy walk to Buckfast Abbey for Mass . Quiz in the evening such fun. My sister and I came last but no matter. Exceptional evening staff. Food beautifully cooked. Simple but tasty.

Hotel was a lovely riverside location, in summer the external seating would be great. Staff were friendly & helpful. Breakfast was spot on.

There was very little or no central heating in the room and it was cold. When the radiators did come on they were luke warm and did very little to heat up the room.

This property is in a lovely location next to the river. The rooms are comfortable and the restaurant has a good selection of food. The breakfast is very good. The staff are very friendly and very helpful.
