Very old and tired rooms and bathroom
Check in was slow , He wasn’t very helpful on checking in!! Old and worn out furniture in rooms
Convenient location with reasonable food and drink options for an overnight stay
Large commercial business with screens of football in every area
The room was booked as a twin. What we got instead was a room with a king sized bed and a pull out sofa bed. The sofa bed was not unfolded or made up. We complained to the front desk, who said that there were no twins available, despite having booked on. There solution was to deliver some bedding to our room. We had to figure out how to unfold the sofa into a bed ourself, and then make the bed ourself, as the desk staff “didn’t do that”. This in turn made the available floor space extremely tight, and the sofa bed may aswell have been made from concrete. Then, to top it off, my friend got stuck in the bathroom as the door got caught on the floor, leading me to have to full force shoulder barge to door to open it. This was then the case every time the door was closed, and it never even closed fully and could not lock.
The staff were trying to help
The bathroom had mould all over it and was so dirty! Carpets bedding and units were also filthy
It is ideally placed for getting out and about. The bar and restaurant were excellent and had just been recently updated. Food was great, always hot and special offers were fab. Didn’t have to wait long although it was busy. A great breakfast. Well worth booking with breakfast.
The rooms are very outdated furniture wise and quite tatty especially the bathrooms, but we were informed that they are starting work in a few weeks time to up grade these. Our room was at the back and I could hear the traffic for most of the night as the hotel is literally just off the junction of the main road.
Breakfast was good It was nice to have a pub adjoining the hotel Staff were very friendly
Room was rather tied En-suite was in the need of a complete over haul
Very comfortable and convenient, and the meal in the restaurant was good
Lovely friendly staff, good location for Alton Towers. Lovely pub, clean, tidy and good food at a good cost.
The rooms are tired and dated and need a refurb, especially bathrooms.
Convenient location for visiting Alton towers
Noisy. Doors constantly banging throughout the night, sleep disturbed from hearing extractor fans in other bedrooms Bedding on arrival had a long fingernail on top of the duvet. Unable to change rooms due to lack of availability/ bedding changed only to discover mould/dirty stains all over. Second sheet change
Excellent location, easy access to the dual carriageway and motorway. Helpful friendly staff and excellent breakfast. The bed was excellent and space in the room was very good.
The room was quite dated and in need of a bit if TLC. Staining on the paint in the bathroom and mold spots on the silicon seal around the bath/shower.
The staff was very welcoming , freindly and happy to help .
Location to where we was going. Some staff were lovely
. Lack of staff on reception meaning having to wait to be served at bar to check in. . Very uncomfortable bed . Room needed a bit of an up date . Security alarm kept us awake first night and second night was kept awake by a fight outside the pub right below our window
The room itself was dated however it was clean and spacious with everything you would need for an overnight stay. The pub below does room service to the room. The location is great for easy access to the A50 with a Tesco petrol station opposite for a quick re-fuel before continuing your journey the next morning. Just under 30 mins drive to Alton Towers. The pub serves food until 9pm. We arrived at 8:30pm and was told that food had just ended due to a staff meeting. The manager of the pub offered to keep the kitchen open for us until gone 9 and cook the food himself. This is truly going above and beyond for the guests.
The bed was too soft but this is personal preference. Other family members were in the room next door and they loved the bed. There was some kind of mechanical whirring sound that kept starting and stopping during the night. Not too loud but distracting.
That it’s closer to my son’s house and it’s near to the shops
We haven’t had anything to dislike about it staff are friendly and meals are always good
Close to Alton towers,Tesco, aldi and McDonald’s but more negatives than positives. Staff were friendly also.
the room we were given wasn’t very good, this was also the same for the other people we were with. On first approach of the hotel room there was paper stuffed into the eye hole on the door and couldn’t remove. Toilet seat wasn’t attached at all causing it hard to use. We noticed The next day our toilet door handle had loose screws hanging out of them, there was also a lock on the bathroom door with nothing to attach to. So it was pointless even having the lock…. Behind the sink was build up in brown gunk or mold I’m not sure what it was. When putting the shower on the shower was leaking slightly at the top. Also absolute no pressure from the shower. After girlfriend fell and was bruised from the fall in shower we then seen the sign that said you could ask for a bath mat and a warning that it could be slippy….why not keep the Mat in at all times to avoid falls!! I wont go into full detail on food next door but There was flies everywhere. Only when we had food brought out to you.. this was probably a result of all the food uncleaned on the floor under the chairs in establishment.
Great rooms, brilliant service and staff. My god was the bed comfy, was tempted to bring it home. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay there again, excellent value for money
The staff were very friendly and accommodating . Breakfast was good
The room had flaws, paint coming off some of the walls, the wooden bedside tables and dresser that tv was sat on varnish had gone and looked untidy.Hole in sofa. In the bathroom there was a loud noise continuous don't know whether it was from a heating source. Toilet had deep scale at bottom and around rim. Bed was hard. It just needs a revamp because the room was clean. Went for evening meal in pub, it has a sports bar attached to restaurant, obviously used by locals was extremely loud due to football being on. It wasn't bad it just needs touching up
Good value, friendly team
Decor a bit tired, could do with a bit of a freshen up
I thought the staff were really friendly and approachable.
I didn’t think the hotel was as clean as it could have been and parts of rooms were very runs down x floor covering was coming away in bathroom and there was mould and ingrained grime round edges of bath and taps
Beds was ok
Rooms very outdated.. our room door lock was aqward to use there was no plug in the bath and the soap dispenser come off the wall. Mould on the bathroom ceiling and all the caulking was cracking around the sink.. Horrible draft coming through the window seals and not very sound proof at all could here outside noise and traffic all night.. Won't be returning!
Pub that was attatched was good for families. Good food
Rooms need a little updating
Good location good friendly staff
Bit rundown
We go every year now, the staff are always friendly, and location is great no complaints.
Could do with updating a little scruffy in areas but honestly its fine for a budget hotel
Clean. Staff very helpful. Great breakfast
Only 20 minutes from Alton Towers. A cheap and cheerful stay. Pub attached to hotel and McDonald’s and Tesco walking distance away
It’s pretty dated and basic but can’t complain for the price
Lovely hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Would stay again.
N/A
Pub/ restaurant attached was child friendly and food was good value. Great atmosphere with night time entertainment.
The rooms were very dated and bathroom could do with a refurb. Beds also weren’t comfy not a patch on the premier inn beds.
We requested an early check-in due to a wedding. Very accommodating with the early check in
It was very easy to get to
The bathrooms in the room had black mould and the floor was bouncy. The breakfast was not what we would have expected and the staff for the breakfast service were not very helpful.
Room was fine, the whole hotel looked a little tired but it did do the job for an overnight on the way to an event on the Sunday.
Everything and the food is amszing in the hungry horse
The bed wasn't too comfy but was clean and pillows were comfy however mattress wasn't the best
The location
Dirty place
Property was lovely in right place and perfect
The windows were worn and could do with new ones
Modern. Good situation near petrol station and supermarket. Quiet at night.
Shower. Couldn't control temperature. No grab variety to get into bath.
Good location and friendly staff. Bed was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was nice
Nobody on reception on arrival. Had to go looking for staff. Apparently should have had a sign up telling us to go to bar but that was facing the wrong way! Rooms are desperately in need of a refurb. The furniture is worn out, no varnish left on wooden furniture and sofa and chair was ripped. Rusty radiator. Carpet very stained. Chaotic service in the bar at night. Very understaffed. Sold us a bottle of wine but had no wine glasses!
The rooms looked tired and reasonably clean. For being close to the main road it was not too noisy. The bed was comfortable although felt small. The tea and coffee in the room was limited but replenished daily. Breakfast was OK
The building was looking past it best. The restaurant was extremely busy.
Staff were lovely. Food was lovely!
Mould in bathroom. Bit tatty
Could do with bigger beds
Location
Room was far too hot
Location and price
Convenient location for our needs and perfectly decent for 1 night. Comfortable bed and good shower.
Plumbing was noisy all night and rooms tired and a little shabby
Ideal for the car show venue. Most prices
Noisy during peek meal time. Didn’t take to order food on line. Cutlery was not the cleanest I have experienced : bits of food on the fork tinges .whole place needs refurb / decorating etc.
Great location, and facilities. clean and tidy
Staff were good, plenty of parking.
Rooms a little tied, in need of some tlc
The breakfast was good and the location was perfect for what we needed. I would return if I needed to. It's a budget friendly stay, no thrills but ideal for us going to Alton Towers.
Dinner at the pub wasn't great but my daughter enjoyed the food.
Had dinner in the restaurant, food very good. Room was very large, bed really comfortable, slept really well
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and clean.
Rooms look like they need refreshing as they are showing that they have been well used.
Location was easy to get to, lots of other options to eat
The rooms were very outdated, old rusty heater, the bathroom was very old and in need of an update, black mould all around the edges
Breakfast were very good with good friendly staff.
Good room (No 1) let down a little by saggy in the middle and lumpy bed. Bathroom mirror light didn't work and the toilet seat was loose. TV a little difficult to use. Car parking spaces are a little tight. Saturday night in the evening bar were quite rowdy with lots of shouting etc: Not quite the atmosphere for the older person. Sunday was more reasonable.
Located just off motorway
Bar loud and food basic
Pretty much everything.
Furniture was beginning to look worn.
Nothing
The dust was visable in the restaurant and rooms . The room smelt of damp needed a refurb, furniture dated and worn. The bathroom door was so heavy it was difficult to open and close. The food in the restaurant arrived burnt and tasteless . The breakfast area pastries were soggy, scrambled eggs overcooked and tasteless. Cutlery needed replacing so worn it looked aweful and definately not inviting.
It had exactly what we needed and the staff were very helpful.
The bathroom was a little dated.
Good parking, location is great for Alton Towers, just 20 minutes away. There is a large Tesco, and a McDonalds opposite the hotel. The hotel is basic, but our room and bathroom were clean, it is dated, but for a budget hotel is was perfectly fine. We did have a little corridor noise, but after 9pm there was no noise at all. Bring your own fan if staying in hot weather
There were no plug sockets near the bed
25 minute wait for checkin eventually went to the bar where the manager who does multiple jobs came to help. We stayed 3 nights and was the same story nobody on reception.we had 3 rooms all smelt of mould and had mould! Mouse traps under bed.my son cut his finger on the wall at reception, assistant manager then taped it up with black tape and was very rude about it. Toilet wobbly and handle hardly flushed. Foot prints on walls, lights hanging off the wall, furniture ready for the skip.extraxtor fan in bathroom stuffed with toilet roll and holes in the walls. At the bar men drunk and wrestling eachother this continued to the beer garden, woman running round in denim shorts unbuttoned and staff took no notice at this family hotel where 5 in our party was under 12. Couldnt eat the pre paid breakfast as the plates were covered in grease and fingerprints. Faulty towers wouldn't have a look in way this dump!

Was our stop over for a 2 day visit to Alton Towers. Staff as always were excellent from Breakfast time right through the day until bar closes. The rooms are clean and large and beds are super comfy. Good choice for breakfast. Ideal location for visiting surrounding Stoke and Alton attractions. Our trip coincided with World cup, so was busy in the evenings for football, but staff went out there way to ensure we could get a table for dinner both nights. Beer Garden out the back and seating at the front so wherever the sun is you are sorted
This is the 4th time we have stayed here and any negatives would not stop me booking again. Rooms are a little tired (Scuffed furniture & grout in bathroom) . Our TV was not able to connect to WIFI so unable to link to tv apps.
Very good for value
Bit of wear and tare to furniture but stil a comfortable stay
Excellent accommodation for a stay over after a trip to Alton towers. Room was clean and had everything g we needed. Staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was tasty. Will stay again next time we are n the area.
No complaints.
The staff were very helpful.
The temp of the shower was rather hot. The shower head couldnt be height adjusted.
A nice stay . Hotel adequate for the one night .anmple parking . Only real criticism, it’s ready for a facelift .
Decor a bit dated .
Room was perfect for my teenage son and I who were visiting Alton Towers for a few days. The breakfast each morning was great to set us up for the day and we both enjoyed a couple of evening meals too.
The lock on the bathroom door was a bit stiff and my son had difficulty with it, as did I as I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. Under side of the soap dish on the wall at the bath did not appear to have been cleaned for a while as it was black underneath. Obviously only really noticeable if you are having a bath!
Very handy location for me. Good breakfast Good price
Rooms look a bit tired
The location is well placed for local attractions, the rooms are nice.
The rooms do show their age slightly with some bits, the access hatch to the toilet cistern was loose which makes you worried you might get blamed for existing damage.
Nice location. Very clean and friendly staff
Nothing
Tatty, dirty, awful
Helpful and polite staff. Nice, clean room which was comfortable.
This hotel is very close to Alton towers, it has a decent pub attached. We had two meals here and both very good. The cider slushie was needed during the heat wave. The hotel is older and tidy in places but they are charge a rate that accounts for this. Tesco, aldi and McDonald's all very close by ie in the same car park.
Car park is shared with the pub and not the largest. Was always a space but only a few left. McDonald's drive thru gets busy and a traffic jam forms for getting into the car park.
The hotel was easily accessible from M6
The room was very poor lots of lime scale in the bathroom and the skirting was black tape holding it together. Very much in need of repair and updating
It was the perfect location for us as an overnight stopover between Liverpool and Nottingham. Plenty of parking. We arrived at Midnight but security was on hand to give us our room. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
The furniture was very tired in our room. Quite noisy as we had the window open because of the heat, no Aircon!
Friendly staff, comfortable room and the food was delicious
Good location for what I wanted all the staff were very friendly
I think breakfast could be on a bit longer
The location, the size of the rooms and very friendly accommodating staff.
Nothing
Location
Nothing
This Inn was convenient for a one night stop. Although clean the rooms were very tired looking.
Clean and good location. Modern restaurant. Very cheap and quality breakfast. Lovely staff.
The carpet in my room was rippled leaving exposed carpet grippers along one wall. Drawer handle missing leaving exposed screw.
Bar/food and close to supermarkets and main road links
No aircon
Location, friendly staff, clean
No air con, but this is not essential. The rooms could do with an upgrade, I mentioned this the last time I stayed.
Room spacious, bed comfy. Bad points - tissue paper stuck in window seals to perhaps keep out draft. Mold walls by window. Seal around bath mouldy. OK for one night stay.
Mould, rusty radiator. Paint quite chipped around room.
Great location and friendly staff.
Mattress was rather lumpy and a couple more power sockets would be an advantage.
Food was nice
Dried blood on bedsheets and the rooms filthy with dust
Location ok
Room a bit tired . No phone usb plug, room stifllingy hot. Mc Donald’s boy racers kept me awake
I've stayed quite a few times, it's in a great location , easy to check in , we got room tidy every day which was great. The pub is on site . Reasonable size rooms with tea/coffee, and fairly good shower pressure and temperature. Staff are friendly, and it's not a bad place to stay .
The pub is handy for food ,but it's continually mediocre. Which is a shame , the service is good , thankyou to Lewis who served at the bar ,friendly and quick. Rooms are lacking sound insulation from those above , consequently the elephant in the room above was annoying. Rooms are slightly tired.
The staff extremely polite and helpful and I forgot to request a ground floor room as I am disabled, the receptionist straight away change my room to ground floor without me even saying a word so top ratings for that. The beds were comfy enough but rooms could do with a lick of paint but good value for £60 a night and would stay again. Overall the hotel is clean, welcoming, comfy and friendly.
Just small things like a lick of paint or a shelf fixing but that's all. I still would stay there again.
Where it was situated for our purposes
Wasn’t the cleanest , the air convector in bathroom was on 24/7 toilet handle came off in my hand , lights on wall were loose and one was hanging , no air conditioning on a hot day , I have stopped in lots of Greene King hotels and this was the worst by far
Breakfast was good, rooms were nice & beds were comfy, you would need a car. A fridge in the room would be nice to keep drinks cool.
The room was nice and quiet (aside from the boy racers outside, but hardly the hotel's fault!), and well located.
While the room was nice and quiet, it needed a lot of fixing; the TV screen was damaged so not really watchable, nice new carpets and decor, but surrounded by old tatty furniture and fixings. The bathroom was grim, and we were woken twice by the fire alarm going off, which turned out to be because of someone taking a shower!
Good location with shops near by. Excellent area beyond hotel to walk the dog
The pub, where food was served was far too noisy. Everyone was shouting to be heard above 2 TVs and loud music. I was forced to travel elsewhere to eat
Location was close to the main roads,McDonald's and tesco.
The bathroom was full of black mold, the window was held in place with toilet roll, the radiator was falling apart with rust and the carpet was coming away and a massive trip hazard.
Breakfast was reasonable Location good
Gentleman on reception when we arrived wasn't welcoming. Quite abrupt.
Rooms are very dated and need of refreshing, furniture all seemed old and damaged. Heater/radiator rusty (would be worried to use it if needed) Chunk of wall missing - probably been knocked multiple times. Bathroom - black mould all around the shower, the actual shower fitting heavily coated in limescale and mould behind. I was only staying for one night as at a function nearby wouldn’t want to be longer Fire alarm going off in morning due to someone having a hot shower didn’t really make the stay great either
The staff where lovely "Holly " stands out when i had breakfast, she was very friendly, the room was big for what i needed, and the bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was lovely and plentiful I had a hot meal the night i arrived, and it was lovely, hot, and very cheap and the bar staff where very helpful and pleasant, the room was opened by a "key" something you don't get these days
The desks and side tables in the room, needs a re- sand down and a repaint , however generally speaking the room was okay, the only other thing I will say that the "male" manager was not to great (no smile, and seemed didn't care about good customer service) however the rest of the staff where lovely and very friendly and helpful
Had everything we needed and was close to our destination.
Hotel was a bit tired but the facilities and staff far out weighed that.
Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice
My Sunday roast dinner veg was ok but got the duel one and my beef was dry and the turkey was tiny not even half a slice it was crumbs of turkey 🙃
Great location - Good for EV charging overnight as a stop off. Clean.
Everything inside is incredibly dated and hard-worn.
Staff were friendly and useful location
Ill fitting carpet pulled away from wall leaving lumps in the middle of the carpet that were a trip risk, bedside drawer had handle broken off leaving a protruding screw sticking out which was sharp and dangerous, toilet flush handle held together by filler and sink plug got stuck, very loud air conditioning unit
Ground floor room good bathroom
As I suffer with vertigo the striped carpet was very off putting
The staff were all very pleasant and very helpfull. Are thanks must go to Holly who went above and beyond to make our breakfasts so enjoyable.
Nothing but it will be good to see the bedrooms broug up to date and hopefully the so called bedrooms given walkin showers.A good job has been made of the resturant.
Location was good, staff were friendly.
Family room beds were extremely uncomfortable. Corridors smelt of weed, breakfast was very poor.
Pleasant room, albeit quite dated and rough around the edges. No thrills, but clean, warm and basic amenities like tea, coffee, shampoo. Restaurant attached for breakfast, drinks and meals -> can also order room service from the full Hungry Horse menu which sounds useful, although we didn't use this
Really convenient and good sized room. Very nice pub/restaurant attached. Convenient to motorway and two supermarkets across the road. Very nice staff
No lift which was a bit of a pain with big cases. Whole place is a bit tired and needs a makeover but still nice and clean and comfortable
