A good friendly pub hotel with it own 10 pin bowling ally, good pub food and beer. Stayed many times as I they have good private parking.
A hidden gem. Great food. Excellent service. Professional bowling alleys and 3 pool tables made a rainy day into a fun experience for my family. Good value for money.
Very friendly staff, great room clean and fresh. Had a meal on my first night and was really good and my breakfast was also very good. I’d stop there again if there was available
Fantastic place to stay. Owners friendly, room 100% clean and comfortable. Breakfast amazing. 5 stars is not enough!
Room upgraded to apartment, staff very friendly, Good breakfast & bar meals
Our annual visit to bowl and dine was a success again. We had bowlers from age 2 to 79. All had fun. Meals afterwards were tasty with good service. Teenagers enjoyed a game of pool after dinner. Reasonable prices. Will return again next time we are in Cornwall.
My stay would have been excellent if the check in was good. Unfortunately when I arrived there was no one to check me in. I did venture into the ten pin bowling bar area to ask for help and the guy was very rude and extremely unhelpful. He was more interested in his phone than helping me. He has to remember he works in a customer service industry. Luckily, everyone else I came into contact with were very welcoming.
Excellent breakfast with friendly staff
A lovely small hotel jusy a short walk from the beach... comfy rooms and great breakfast...
Solid place to stay. Easy walk to the ocean, a little bit more to walk to town. Also, has a: restaurant, bar, & bowling. Stayed in room #15 & then #19. 3 nights in late-March 2025. Negatives: Wi-Fi issues: kept having to reconnect as the signal was weak. Also, speed was not adequate. Room #19 did not have USB power (#15 did). Both rooms had weird mis-matched lighting, some were cool white bright, others warm white & way too dim (like that scene in the film Amerlie). Towels were too big. Too much furniture & extra pillows just takes up space. Bed in #19 had excessive soft spot on one side of bed at chest area, other side was fine. Positives: Check-in was easy. Lot's of free parking just across the way. Both rooms were very clean & quiet. Water was hot. Extras like biscuits in addition to the standard coffee/Tea & kettle was a nice touch. Silverware/ceramics were clean & spotless. Room #15 had USB power. The included English Breakfast was top notch, restaurant area was clean and service was great. Adjustable hand held shower head is always better than a fixed head.
Have always known it was there but have never had the chance to experience it... lovely comfortable rooms and a cracking breakfast included in the price AND you gets a free car park too! Close enough to go into Newquay but far away enough from the madness!
What an amazing find! One of the comfiest rooms I have stayed in!
Very homely feel, good size room. Excellent value for money. Shower pressure on the low side. Would stay again.
We stayed for one night as we had an early flight, we were out before breakfast so they provided a snack in a bag for us without being asked. The room was fine and did what we needed. We ate in the bar and the food was very nice and a good portion. We would use this place again.
Really good price, quaint hotel down a narrow road. Rooms well equipped and comfortable. 5 min walk to Porth Beach and coastal walks. Good breakfast. Enjoyable stay
A great price for what I had. Room was comfortable and en-suite. A great breakfast and friendly atmosphere. Will visit again if I am in the area.
Carol and Dave took excellent care of us. Dave is a great cook so food was excellent- breakfast - anything you wanted plus pastries, fresh fruit salad etc every morning. Often took evening meals there too - super. Great fun bowling and playing pool and just a few minutes walk to a wonderful beach with cafes and Loos. Brilliant value for money.
Very nice area. Very poor guest house. Not very clean.
Me and friends were at Boardmasters and walked down to Porth and saw a sign for the bowling. Upon arrival we went to the toilet where an extremely rude female member of staff kept hurrying us. We then went bowling and there were several issues.
Property is located close to the beach, a 5 minute walk. My family was booked in for four nights, we stayed one night and left due to the conditions. The property smelled damp and was noisy as it is also the home to a skittle alley. Our room had a large patch of mold under the main window, plug sockets were loose on the wall, one bed side lamp didn’t work. The main lamp shade was broken with beads hanging loose. There were four in ceiling lights in the bathroom, two didn’t work, one worked intermittently, leaving only one light working. The floor standing bathroom caddy was covered in rust and the heated towel rail had dust on each rung. We were unable to open windows as the smoking area appeared to be directly under our room window.
Comfortable room, good food, welcoming staff. Good location for the beach and cliff walks. Also enjoyed the bowling available on the premises.
Pleasant hotel. Friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Good location.
A place I have stayed many times. Simple homely, excellent breakfast a food .
We loved everything about Porth Lodge - The hosts were friendly and welcoming, the room was lovely, and very clean, the food was great. A brilliant vegetarian cooked breakfast for us. Excellent facilities, including a wonderful pub with a great pint! We can’t wait to stay here again.
Very Helpful and friendly -owner and staff. Very good breakfast .. Close to the beach and actually sunny for 5 days..
Local patrons very friendly as are staff, breakfast very good.
Short walk to a lovely beach. Kitchen air-con fan outside room 12 meant you couldn’t have the window open and sleep when kitchen was in use, otherwise we had a great time!
A bit of an odd fish, this place. I booked it because I had been in Falmouth and had an early flight from Newquay. The hotel was a long walk from Newquay - maybe I should have researched this a bit more and is really not suitable for visitors without transport. The check in was very functional ' go upstairs and turn back on yourself' and I wasn't asked if I wanted to book in for dinner. The dining room looked empty, so maybe that wasn't an option. It seems to be a place where locals come to play ten pin and then sit chatting in the bar which has got rooms attached. However, the room was very clean and perfectly adequate for the cost , I can't fault the accommodation. I would recommend it to people with a car.
We stayed in a holiday home just down road from here there was 6 off us and ever time we went in it was no trouble and they were very friendly and the food was amazing and very large portions as well and there was and old Wurlitzer in corner with log fire it was just amazing
Friendly small hotel in old park of town with nice & reasonably priced rooms. Cosy bar area and not too far from beach, with uphill return. Good breakfast. Will use again
mould in the bathroom, everything worn out in general noisy, thin walls good breakfast and price is ok friendly staff
Really charming!
Whilst on holiday in Camborne I saw the ten pin bowling advertised on Google and showing as open (screen shot to prove this). Drove down from Camborne so a fair old journey only to be told when we got there that it was closed so my time and fuel were wasted and I have been left stressed when I should be enjoying my holiday.
Absolutely couldn’t recommend this beautiful lodge more if I tried! What a lovely place with the kindest people! Me and my 2 year old had the best stay, in a wonderfully spacious room that had everything I could have possibly needed…including a kitchen!
Excellent all round, did bowling, played pool, had a good night's sleep and a delicious breakfast. Everyone from staff to customers very welcoming. Will definitely come again!!
We had a small issue with the original room assigned to us but this was resolved very quickly and was moved to another room with an upgrade , also only 2 mins walk to the large beach.
First impression was misleading, casual outside tables but friendly staff when we found them! Good breakfast and tasty evening meals. Our room large, possibly recently updated - comfortable bed, smart en-suite - good value!
Good food and good hosts
Nice breakfast Fantastic space with fair price
A lovley place to stay , the staff are amazing and such a great location
Nice, spacious family room, beach in walkable distance. Awesome breakfast served for the start of the day. Had a wonderful stay
Family business , all are very kind people. Very peaceful place.
Really nice proprietors that go out of their way to help. Quaint country feel
This was a last minute booking as i need some where to stay for 1 night at the Royal Cornwall show @ £95.00 B&B they were not ripping people off like other hotels in the area. Very pleasant double room with a good shower. Had a great evening meal & the locals were interesting to listen to. Breakfast was very good. I will be staying there again, very friendly people.
Stayed for 1 night at short notice, very comfy bed & food was very good. Locals in the bar & a good breakfast in the morning, I think value for money it’s very good, I would & will stay here again. Thank you for making me feel welcome
Stayed here a number of times now. Always my 1st choice when in the Newquay area. Friendly staff, great food and the bed is sooo comfortable. Locals engage with you, it's like home away from home. Even made me a packed lunch to take to work because I have to leave before breakfast starts.
Nice owners and quiet location, nice little bar.
Easy to park large van, quiet out of the way hotel very close to town .
Bed comfortable Shower door didn’t close shower very poor not clean .the whole phase was very tired .
Lovely room, lovely people, staff and owners and a fantastic loacation! 2 min from the beach, 20 min walk to town...perfect! Enjoyed it so much i stayed an extra night!
Excellent stay. Great location. Good value for money. Very comfortable bed. Great breakfast.
We came as a family for a game of bowling, was left with the pins falling over while they was re racking. So we gave them the benefit of the doubt. But after the 4th time of it breaking down and being left there waiting while one lad runs the bar and the bowling. Who when I asked him for a refund. Was told under his breath that “no one asked you to Fing come” then to have the audacity to start arguing with Paying customers.. stating that we had played 3/4 of the game. When 1/4 of it we was stood waiting for him, then offered to move us over a lane. But I think it was to little to late. Wouldnt recommend it as the owner also stated when we got our refund.. that you’ve got your F’ing money now £uck off.. thought that was rather rude for an owner.
Friendly staff, good food and good location close to Porth beach. En-suite was quite small and lacked adequate shelving for toiletries.
Excellent proximity to the beach. Great apartment with excellent facilities. Brilliant breakfast. Excellent bar serving excellent food.
We got a last minute booking. Dave and Carol went above and beyond to make our stay fantastic. Our 3rd stay at Porth Bean Lodge.
Generally a pleasant stay, staff were friendly, could not fault the food. My main problem was being in room number 4 which is directly above the bar the noise was continuous until close.
Nice place
It's very nice hotel kind people's Woking at the hotel, Just walking distance to the beach ⛱ and hotel got very nice bar and pool table also bowling, My family enjoyed a lot. Space for car parking free. Breakfast is very nice, we will come again. Thank you for you service.
We were allocated a lovely apartment instead of the room we were expecting. The apartment was spacious and newly refurbished, an ideal space as we had a dog with us. Only 5 mins walk to Porth beach so well located. The hotel car park was full when we returned in the evening, but we were able to park further up the road in a residential area.
Very convenient & comfy hotel a few minutes walk to the beach. The room was very clean with all amenities I required for my stay. Friendly staff, also dog friendly. Nice relaxing bar, with good food. Would definitely stay again.
We have just got back from an excellent weekend stay at the Porth Lodge Hotel on the outskirts of Newquay. Dave, Carol and the team made us very welcome and our room was lovely, cosy, and very comfortable. Dave's excellent cooking and Carol's fabulous hospitality made for a lovely relaxing weekend away. The Porth's great location makes the beach very accessible and the walk into Newquay very doable to walk off the delicious and very generous cooked breakfast which set us up for the day. I would definitely recommend a stay in the Porth for it's lovely Cornish charm and great value for money!
Very friendly and clean. Comfortable rooms and generous breakfast. Only downside was that water in showers never managed to get hot.
A great stay and well located hotel on the outskirts of Newquay. Only a ahort walk to the nearesr beach also. The room was great and breakfast good too. I ate in the restaurant too and was a good evening meal after a long day traveling and work.
Very friendly, and helpful
Comfy bed and all the facilities you would expect, good price considering we had on site parking and were within walking distance of the beach.
Cosy public bar & alternate dining area. Made for an all round pleasant experience. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Recommended!
Comfortable accommodation, clean and tidy. Personally had difficulty with access. Steep external stairs and landing was a little difficult for me, but I’m not as fit as I used to be!! Breakfast was good and enjoyable and the hosts/staff very helpful. Whilst the hotel is not 5* it does tick most of the boxes. I would recommend the Porth Lodge for a good base to tour Cornwall. Thank you Carol and Dave for a good holiday.
Nice friendly hotel, very good breakfasts, nice bar, great location really quiet very dog friendly
Myself and my fiancé stayed on late notice, as only called in the evening on the night we stayed and to our luck they had room to fit us in. They were excellent and were incredibly welcoming. We stayed in one of the apartments which was beautifully presented could not fault it at all! We enjoyed a meal at the restaurant which was delicious and staff was lush. We could have stayed longer! We have already recommended this place to friends/ family and we cannot wait to stay again on our next venture to Newquay.
Excellent place to stay-friendly efficient staff-breakfast best ever! Location excellent-about a 5 minute walk to the beach. Good evening meals-plenty of choice. Lovely clean bright bedroom. Good bar and plenty if seating outside. Good car park. All in all a lovely place to stay.
Porth Lodge Hotel is a great little find, close to Porth Beach but also close enough to Newquay to walk in within about 30 or so minutes. The hotel itself seems to be run by a husband and wife who are very friendly and really accommodating. The rooms were a bit of a squeeze (not much extra space around the beds!) but they were nicely furnished and we were very happy considering the price. The breakfasts were great, as well as the food produced in the evening which was also excellant value. Positives - onsite bowling, pool tables, bar/pubs areas and restaurants. Negatives - we had real issues (as did our friends who were staying in another room at the same time) with hot water in the showers. We only had 2 hot showers each in 5 days and that was after 1 day of faffing and waiting for the immersion to be put on, and another day when we waited 40 minutes and they came up to "help"... Apparently there's a nack to getting hot water to actually come out of the shower, but we struggled to get this 80% of the time. The last day, we were late checking out as I couldn't leave until I'd had a proper shower as I hadn't had more than a 10 second jump in and out freezing cold one after giving up the previous days. If the shower situation was sorted, we'd definitely return!
It was so close to that fabulous beach...breakfast was excellent
Pleasant surprise the room was spotless and newly decorated. Service was good and breakfast delicious. Will stay again.
Clean, friendly
From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave you are well looked after by the friendly family run lodge. This is a little hidden gem offering a great stay with amazing food. Perfectly situated on the out skirts of Newquay allowing you to walk in and out when ever you wanted with in 10 minutes. Lovely beach at the bottom of the road so don’t need to go far before hitting the sand and sea. Will be back xx
Very lovely and friendly owners who were very accommodating. No request was too much bother and we felt like we were friends after only a day! Although we didn't use it there was, remarkably, a Ten Pin bowling alley in the hotel. Down a country lane. In Cornwall. By the beach !! Great to keep everyone amused if it is pouring with rain. Highly recommended hotel. And the pretty walk down to the beautiful, small Porth Beach is delightful.
The room was lovely, great location near to beaches and a friendly welcome. Fantastic filling breakfast to set you up for a great time in Newquay. Well recommended!!!
It was a very friendly place great location close to beach and dog friendly very pleased and would definitely recommend 😀
The staff were very friendly ,the meals
We had a lovely stay at Porth lodge. Lovely welcome from the owner on arrival, who also allowed us to check in early. We loved the location, it was perfect & in walking distance of porth beach. On site free parking was a bonus, there are two parking areas, space for about 4 cars at the front & a large car park to the rear. We liked the front seating area in the front garden, was a cosy place to sit & have a drink in the evening with the solar lights. The apartment was a nice surprise, we certainly got a lot more than we were expecting, great value for money.Beds and linen extremely comfortable & of good quality. The kitchenette & bathroom looked new. Large smart tv was nice for the evenings & the sofa was comfy. The room had extra touches like the use of an iron and a hoover & a cot for a young one if required. There were a few cobwebs around the window when we arrived but actually we thought it added to the charm of the place & we were not bothered about that at all. The metal staircase & balcony that leads to the apartment rooms was a bit noisey when people walked on it but again didn't affect our stay. In general the location was lovely & quiet & we woke every morning to the tranquil sounds of nothing other than birds singing. Breakfast is included but we didn't have breakfast on site on this occasion as generally we aren't big eaters in the morning. On check out the lady owner was lovely & chatty. We would recommend porth lodge to anyone & will definitely come again.
A lovely place
Excellent little friendly family run hotel, good food, great breakfast. You may struggle if disable etc as there are a few stairs no lifts.
Lovely room, everything really clean and fresh. Very good service, kind and flexible.
Very nice friendly place to stay nice rooms and facilities nice walks on the beach very quiet location will stay again in future short breaks
I liked how the staff were so greeting when my partner and I first walked in and quick at all the services I would definitely recommend because the room was spotless, also was very handy for the beach to be down the road.
The property was lovely located just up from the beach a gem
Staff were lovely, especially with the children. Everywhere was clean and food was good. Room was actually an apartment and was huge. However , it was tired and dated and the window was over the smoking area so we couldnt leave it open.
There's good and bad... GOOD: The location is fantastic. Can't beat it. Its about a 5min walk from probably the best beach in Newquay. Free carpark 50 yards from the hotel Great food (good portions), and drink (£4.50 a pint) BAD: Room (12), very hot and basic. No aircon Hosts, not very personalable or attention to detail. Requested twin beds but were given a double (awkward). Birthday mentioned on booking but not acknowledged. Scrambled egg very dry and inedible Noisy at night... bar very 'locals' centered and loud chat until late (3am) at night. Thin walls... could hear people snoring next door Dirty sheets OVERALL: Probably won't return despite the location. Hosts were a bit too formal and far less personalable. Would give advice that to talk to your guests, make the effort to get to know them and make the personal connection. We didn't feel welcome.
Very nice hotel tucked away above the beach in Porth, easy walk down hill to beach but a steep walk back up, was staying for work so didn't visit beach during day time. The owners were very nice and as I was leaving before breakfast every day the did me a packed lunch, on the last day as I was leaving for home I got to try breakfast there were many choices and all cooked very well, there is also a bar in the hotel and with guest ales owner knows his beer as the 3 I tried were all good.
Great location a real hidden gem with great food and comfy rooms and 5 minutes from the beach - will definitely be back !
Once again excellent stay at porth Lodge many thanks to Carol and dave for a lovely break excellent food good service provided will be back fantastic location for all parts of Cornwall definitely recommend they are very acomodating and helpful and friendly which goes along way see you soon 😊xxx
Very disappointing from the start- we were met with a miserable faced lady- Carol on arrival, who always made us feel we were a burden. There is a great big "rated 8.8/10 from hotels.com guests" sign at the desk- but we would not rate this more than 3.3! Not even one smile throughout our 3 days there- despite, there being several problems with the rooms we had: 1 apt & 1 twin. In the apt- the shower outflow was blocked which we reported- never got fixed; in the twin- no functioning shower- we were told it had been fixed 2 weeks earlier-clearly not- then had to stay in this room, but go across the hall to shower in another room. Equally bad, was the fact that there was no evening hot water to shower with- only to be met with "we dont normally have people showering in the evening"- I presume no surfers, beach goers ever stayed there then. The only saving grace was that the quality of the food was good.
Had a bowl and a bite, was a good few games and staff were helpful and polite with social distancing in place. Love the feel of the cosy bar and the locals drinking were welcoming and at the end of the night felt very welcome :) pool table is kept neat and ready for anyone. Also has a television to keep people entertained along with music. This place offers all the entertainment.
Initially came for the bowling, good activity for the evening. The actually bowling alley and bowling balls is pretty outdated if I'm being honest, the balls are all chipped and barely circular anymore. Its actually quite expensive also, around £7 a game per person I think if I remember correctly, cant remember exactly. However the people there were lovely, service was great and we even stayed afterwards in the bar area for an hour or two and played some pool and cards. Everyone in the bar was lovely and friendly, the locals and the staff! Didn't stay at the hotel or eat there so cant comment.
Really nice hotel with a traditional feel. Great friendly service. Super breakfast, lots of choices.
Booked an apartment which was quite affordable compared to the hotels nearby. Clean, spacious, comfortable and very close to the Porth Beach ( which is ideal if you're not looking to surf - no equipment rentals and no surf done there, as told by the lifeguards).
We stayed for 3 nights at porth lodge, arriving 19th September. Check in was quick and easy. All staff were helpful, very welcoming and friendly. Our apartment was clean and the bedding smelt lovely and fresh. Breakfast was fabulous and the portions were plentiful. We ate at the restaurant two nights out of our 3, staff were lovely, the food was brilliant and very reasonably priced. Home cooked Sunday lunch was great. A few minutes from the beach, made it an ideal location. Dog friendly was a massive bonus for us. Would recommend and will definitely return.
The host was lovely and helpful The food was 1st class
We spent 6 wonderful nights at Porth Lodge last week. We can't praise Carol, Dave and their team enough. We stayed in apartment 2, which was spotlessly clean and well equipped, with modern decor. The bed was so comfortable and bedding was clean and smelled beautifully fresh. Breakfast not only offered plenty of choice with generous portions, but was also made with excellent quality products, something I've found is not always the case when hotels try to reduce their costs with inferior, cheap sausages, bacon etc. After eating dinner in the small hotel restaurant on our 2nd night we decided to eat there every evening. Dave is an excellent chef and we both agreed the sirloin steak was possibly the best we'd ever tasted!! The fish was also very fresh and absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was top quality, well prepared and presented and the staff are all very friendly and chatty, whilst still providing excellent service. The added bonus is the location, with a lovely beach virtually on the doorstep and within walking distance, although be warned.... it is a very steep incline on the return journey! We would recommend Porth Lodge 100% and will definitely be returning in the not too distant future.
Unbeatable location, so close to the beach, we left our car at the lodge and walked 5 mins to the beach... our room was very nice, comfy bed, breakfast was included and really nice with a large amount of food, the full English was epic! Had a cute bar which we had a cheeky pre drink before a nice walk to a restaurant on the strip. Fully enjoyed our stay!
