The room was clean to my standards, and the staff were extremely helpful, happy and friendly. It was easy to get an UBER to go to any destination.

A humming sound from the second-floor HVAC system was constant, even from the hotel's twelfth floor. The sky bar was quite sparsely stocked, but the staff were extremely accommodating to our requests.

First stop in South Africa. We were generously welcomed at a very early hour. Great service, great food, very highly recommended. We will not hesitate to stay here on our return.

I was not impressed by this Hotel compared to other Hotels I stayed in when coming to Johannesburg this was by far the worst. the carpets are dirty the curtains have stains everything seems so dark the minimum food selection and then they dont have the item you do end up selecting on the menu. once good thing the prices is affordable but thats it.

Absolutely nothing The place was located in the middle of a CBD town with Vomit on the road . The rooms were terrible and the elevators did not work - I had to walk down 12 flights of stairs.

Everything about this place is different to what is put on Booking.com DO NOT GO HERE IT IS A SCAM VOMIT ON THE ROAD ELEVATORS DONT WORK EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AREA TERRIBLE FACILITIES.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Reef Hotel in Johannesburg, and I would like to share my excellent experience. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by friendly, professional staff who were always available and willing to assist. Their outstanding service truly made my stay enjoyable. The overall environment is remarkable: the hotel is clean, well-maintained, and offers a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The rooms are spacious, well-equipped, and provide everything needed to feel at home. As for the dining experience, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the food. The meals were delicious, well-presented, and catered to a wide range of tastes, which added real value to the overall experience. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking to stay in Johannesburg in a welcoming and high-quality setting. It is definitely a place I would gladly return to on my next visit.

They were still busy cleaning the room when I opened the door after checking in, there was an odour in the carpet and bathroom area to a point where we asked to change rooms. When we got to the new room the aircon was not working and the next day we had no hot water. The breakfast was less than impressive. I definitely will not be going back

Rooms small, decor and interior dark and need maintenance, floors dirty, breakfast poor, location schetchy and clubs all around, very noisy right through night. Horrible experience. They did put us in better room. Still not great. Did not help. Couldn't sleep people partied all night. They claimed to be 4 stars. Will not even give it one. Bo warm water in bathroom. Not enough towls. Only 1. Manager not willing to assist even though booking.com told him to refund us. Did not feel safe with my children

The location is really good in terms of proximity to different things in Johannesburg. The value for money is good. The staff are generally very welcoming.

This hotel is right in the heart of downtown Johannesburg and whilst that makes it good by the standards of most places, Johannesburg is a really unique city. Downtown Johannesburg isn’t particularly safe for walking around. Although the Gandhi Square area is fine, anything much further north is definitely no-go walking wise. The area is generally under-invested in which in turn means the hotel is under-invested in. The elevators are unreliable, the room cleanliness is ok but not great and the food at the restaurant is overpriced for what it is. The staff make the most of the space but they are let down by a lack of proper maintenance and care given to the propert. It feels like a hotel with plenty of potential but this is NOT a 4-star hotel in the context of what most 4-star hotels would be. I would describe this place as being like a great 2-star or a mediocre 3-star which makes the value good but not great.

The hotel staff were friendly, professional, and genuinely tried to assist when things went wrong. The replacement room we were moved to was clean and comfortable enough for a short stay. The dining area itself was pleasant, and the location is convenient if you need to be near central Johannesburg.

The hotel is in a noisy area with limited nearby amenities and a nightclub directly below, which meant disrupted sleep from loud music and drag racing into the early hours. Our first room was in unacceptable condition — unmade with visible vomit and bottles in the bathroom — though this was promptly rectified by moving us to a different room. The rooms are basic, with old beds, decent linen, no fridge, and maintenance issues like a shower door that didn’t close. Breakfast was mediocre and far from four-star quality, and several booking and service “glitches” added to our frustration.

From a distance it looked ok

It’s worn out. Shower leaver falling out of the wall. Bad lighting. Noisy guests that reception didn’t want to ask to be quiet at 11.30 pm at night as they’re having a piss up in their rooms. Location was rubbish. Not near anything.

The location of the Hotel terrible. We end up going there and it was scary. We drove up Hotel parking, no security what so ever and we turned around due to surroundings and never even tried booking in. Lost our money, but for better. Booked in at Gold Reef City, bit more expensive but at least you feel safe and value for money.

After a 24 hour trip, the receptionist claimed she could not see my reservation. An hour later she sorted this out. Had she been even slightly experienced, she would have know what to do. 2. THe room was freezing and i had to move to another room at 2 30 a.m. 3. The breakfast was so so.. 4. The location is dangerous and not fit for walking anywhere alone.

The staff and housekeepers were very pleasant, welcoming && had taken extra care off me which I really appreciated. I was provided with a private uber for my last day && the gentleman was good && it was safe to travel with him.

I didn't like that there was any tuckshops at the hotel or nearby. I never ordered any food from the restaurant because I felt the menu wasn't good and it was overpriced. The hotel was expensive per night cause there isn't any view, no malls around the area, I was also given a room which wasn't fully done up (the ceilings), the room needs extra lighting. Also, the rooms should have an air freshener. I would advise certain employees (excluding Noma) in the housekeeping department to pay more attention && be alert while cleaning up the rooms.

There was a horrible smell consistently. The towels are discolouring and the bedding too. The chairs in the bedroom have stains. Channels on TV not playing, aircon not working.

The food of course. The staff and the location. A certain “Buhle” lady, she is amazing in customer service, friendly and welcoming and is indeed a face of the hotel.

Might have traveled at a wrong time. There was no water for several hours every day. Sometimes when there was water, there was no hot water. It is winter! Apparently there was maintenance work on a main water supply. The staff were always helpful in managing the situation though, kudos to them 🙌

The staff was friendly,Jomo helped with carrying our luggage. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was okay.

The bath tub was dirty when we got there, toilet seat had stains, the chairs were dirty. Should consider changing the shower head.

Transfer didn't show up even after confirmation received... but not the driver's fault the hotel did not book... then the restaurant menu had most items removed so not much available.... fridge not in room but brought to room and didn't fit cupboard so took door off... location apparently not very good according to locals....

lovely location, glad I had the breakfast included in my stay but the bonus was hanging out by the rooftop with very affordable cocktails. 10/10

Great hotel in Johannesburg! Ideal location if you want to be in the heart of it all, close to Gandhi Square and other places of interest. Easy to get to the red bus meeting point by taxi, 12mins away. Room was modern and clean, with water, coffee sachets and milk provided each day. Hot water and water pressure is great! Breakfast was a splendid sight, lots of options, fresh omelettes made to order with juices and hot drinks too, plus fruit, pastries, and so much more! Staff are friendly and helpful, especially Nonceba from the dining area each morning, her smile makes the day start with positivity! The rooftop bar has great views of the city, and good music each night too! Great vibes at the hotel, thank you again!

1. The location is hazardous - All persons we met said we had chosen a dangerous hotel 2. The hotel was dark - they should add more light 3. The elevator - I think they don't do servicing. It isn't perfect 3. I was staying in room 612, which was very cool; for my brother, room 611 was ok. 4. I get cool water to bath

The staff was friendly and very hrlful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The roof top lounge offers incredible views of the city. The restaurant provides an excellent breakfast buffet and dinner buffet if you so wish but the menu gives you other options. Nothing to do in the evening except drinks at the roof lounge.

The establishment in general is good. Its location is very central, average of 7-minutes-drive to all the places we wanted to visit. The staff is welcoming. The breakfast is good.

Lifts/Elevators are Very Old And extremely Uncomfortable to be in. The checkout process is not good at all, our check out time was 11h00, but our rooms access cards were blocked around 10h30 (While we were having a breakfast), we had to plead with the Room Service Lady to open for us at around 10h48 to take our stuff out. Totally uncalled for!!!

Didn't receive the room category that was booked. Room was dirty and loud, beds and duvets very short. The restaurant was empty, and there were dead insects in the food. We left after the first night and would not come back.

I've travelled to 40 countries over the past 20 years, and this was the most disappointing hotel experience. I was approached during an afternoon walk around the area by a local safety team patrol member to inform me that it was a high crime area and was offered an escort back to the hotel. The water system had problems my last 5 days at the hotel with intermittent outages daily and no communication plan from the hotel to the guests. The elevators were not always reliable, the weekend staff was not knowledgeable about the surrounding area, and the 1 night I visited the hotel restaurant, the majority of the menu was not available. If I had not prepaid for the hotel, I would have checked out the first day the water was not available.

Maybe you could get more entertaining TV channels?

Large room, comfortable bed,vig bathroom with good shower and hot water. Staff very nice and welcoming and helpful.

My room was cold and the A/C and heating unit was not sufficiently powerful to heat the room. The lifts were old, slow and unreliable. I was not impressed with the food in the restaurant.

Bedding wasn't the best. No water provided for the coffee kettle. Not enough towels were provided. Had to ask for things a few times. Overall, it was not the standard of others 4 🌟 hotels I stayed at.

People where really nice, the breakfast and all was very clean. Rooms were comfy !

To be avoided at all costs. Absolutely horrible hotel, poorly maintained, aging, not in accordance with the photos... certainly one of our worst hotel experiences around the world. Nothing was in accordance with the promises (photos, descriptions...) on the booking site. The decor has aged badly, the hotel seems dirty, the elevators are sluggish and worrying, the card locks in the rooms no longer worked, forcing us to call a guard (and wait for him) each time we wanted to enter our room. On the roof, a roof-top bar reserved for a nightclub, the staff spoke very little English, difficult to make ourselves understood. The hotel apparently serves as a nightclub on weekends, also loud music until 4am, impossible to sleep. All the noise enters the rooms from outside and the corridor. The nightclub guests also rent rooms and so it's a constant parade through the corridors all night long of drunk people shouting and not respecting the sleep of the guests... we'll spare you the noisy sexual intercourse in the neighbouring rooms that results from this drinking. As for the restaurant, unacceptable! You are presented with a 2-page menu, but when you order, only 3 dishes are available. An absolute disaster. I advise you to book elsewhere. Anything but The Reef Hotel.

The parking was such a trouble, going in and out was a nightmare because my car was very big.

The hotel has a bar on the 15th floor with good Alcohol prices and a good dj. So if u feeling a vibe you can do it in the same space of the hotel. The restaurant downstairs was good.food was nice service, which was excellent.staff is nice i would give a 10/10 here. This was great you had all you needed in the hotel and there was no need to go out.

We went on holiday for a weekend. When we were two hours late from check in but our rooms wasn't done. Check in was at 2 we arrived at after 4, Then we had to wait 30mins for our Room Key as the room wasn't done. Which was upsetting as We came from the airport and am effective check in would've been great. The hotel didn't have towels there wasn't a towel in our rooms. The next morning we went to ask for towels but we didn't receive them we ended up showering using the pillow case in the hotel to dry us off with. As we went down to ask for towels the morning atleast one but two hours later it was never brought up. We left for the day and on return we were locked out of our rooms ..Our room keys didn't want to work to open our doors..we then had to go back down and ask what is happening. The day we checked out our lift wasn't working.We were on the 15th floor and had to walk down the flight of stairs to the nineth floor with our suitcase to get the lift that was working. This was terrible as being on holiday you want things as easy as a breeze it's the hole point of a holiday.

Food was terrible, location very unsafe, one towel given only for 2 People sharing a room, airconditioning was not working properly, elevators were not working, manager was called multiple times to assist but no immediate response. What the pictures depicted was not was delivered
