Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Lovely building and room in great location. Staff excellent and called ahead of check in to see if we would need early breakfast (we were there for Great North Run).
It wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but there was a huge coach party in at the same time and breakfast was completely overrun - things kept running out and there was little space to manoeuvre.
Very comfortable,very friendly staff.
Location
Poor breakfast; dark, poky room
Location
Poor quality food
The food was exceptional well presented and delivered at a perfect steady pace

Clean
Double bed for an executive room rather than a king size.
Liked every thing, allways stop here when in darlington
Nothing too note
Large well fitted room, helpful staff and great breakfast
Good bed, quiet room, great staff, convenient location
Couldn’t get any food after 745pm on the Sunday
Very good sauages were lovely
Car outside window were nosiey
Everything was superb in the hotel
Wedding on so very limited parking space and all double yellows for mikes around. Would not stop us staying again though
Dinner in the restaurant was good. The location a short walk to Darlington Town Centre was very good. The hotel staff were very helpful.
Breakfast was only ok. Not as good as I would have expected. The room was quite small and there was only limited storage. There was no desk or worktop.
Breakfast ok
Non comfy pillows, couldn’t regulate shower temperature, cold tap fell apart and had to fix. Cold pedestal tap’s water flow was useless. General lack of maintenance. Iron had burnt plate and ironing board cheap(needed new cover)
Good

Comfy spacious room with nice bed and whamo tv. No disturbance, great brekky. Great price, would come again.
The hotel itself is very nice, the staff are friendly and helpful and the food off of the menu in the bar/restaurant is nice. The room I had was very comfortable with a good size bed.
I wasn't too impressed that the gym advertised isn't in fact at the hotel but a good walk/short drive away as well as there being an extra cost to use it each time on top of the room rate.
The property was comfortable, clean and the staff were friendly! The food in the restaurant was of a good quality, but breakfast was less so, as it was sparse of the main ingredients, It was probably due to the busy period I went down at, but I was disappointed, because the meal the evening before was of a such a good standard!
Breakfast as described before hand!
Staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Parking was free and right in front of the main door so access was good. The hotel is situated a 2 minute walk from the town centre so access then to bars, shops and restaurants and just enough away from any noise and disruption. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was first class with a good choice of hot and cold food.
My room was number 37 so had to go up several flights of stairs to get to this but is an old building so to be expected.
Good for an overnight
Very friendly and helpful
Easy to find and food amazing
The location
Could do with with an update other than that it was great

Lovely building rooms really spacious have stayed before and would stay again

It was lovely building, rooms were simple but comfortable, we slept really well and breakfast was good. Staff were all very friendly and it had a nice outdoor area. Room service was a great addition and the food was really good quality!
Car park was small and busy but we did manage to get parked. It hosts a lot of weddings but they were thankfully hosted in the other side of the hotel so wasn’t disturbed when in our room.
Georgian property In a nice area not far from town centre.
We were on the ground floor so did not have any problems carrying our heavy suitcases and there were ramps to make the car park to ground floor transition very easy. It has a car park in front and back, so even though a wedding was taking place in the afternoon and evening, there were still free places when I returned from KYNREN after 10:30pm. Receptionist was friendly and explained were all the facilities were and arranged our preferred meal times. The location is good for visiting the centre of Darlington, which we did not need to do, but it was the only reasonably priced hotel we could find in order to go to the annual KYNREN spectacular at Bishop Auckland.
The grounds of this Georgian building are very limited, to a small lawn for wedding photos. Our basic room was compact, but of course did not have Air Conditioning, but a fan was provided. However, as the one window could only be opened 6 inches (it is a ground floor room) sleeping during the end of the heatwave was not easy. The breakfast was good, all the usual English breakfast options, but not any fish. The dinner menu was clearly designed for local 20-30s majoring on burgers. We had to make do with average fish & chips. Reaching the hotel by car is interesting, but use a Sat Nav, as the location is at the end of a long L-shaped Cul de Sac.
Lovely building
Our room was on the ground floor, with a walkway by the window, felt quite uncomfortable and insecure. Lots of noise from people walking outside the alley way. Breakfast was awful I’m afraid to say. Bacon was very uncooked looking, Que for toast was about 15 min, as toaster wasn’t very quick. Danish pastries were raw in the middle. I think maybe as the hotel had a wedding that weekend they were struggling with the amount of guests. The breakfast room was quite dirty, however that was mess left by guests. Parking was also a bit of a hassle, found space around the corner from the hotel eventually. Staff were friendly enough, just over rushed. Room was clean and beds super comfortable.
Central location
1. External windows needed cleaning- some almost obscured. 2. Paid for 24hr parking on arrival at reception then 10 days later received a £100 parking fine. Eventually cancelled after appeal and submission of receipt. 3. Not completely sure but appeared to be accommodating migrants.
Breakfast and the location were excellent. Room a little on the small side but fine. Parking was easy and plentiful.
Everything met our expectations. This was our fourth stay here an wouldn’t hesitate to book again.
It was clean and comfortable
Very cosy and pretty, beds were super comfortable, nice and clean
Disabled parking was available, room was suitable for access and mobility issues. Breakfast was excellent as was the evening meal.
Tiles on wet room floor were slippery, could be an accident waiting to happen. Majority of staff were professional and eager to help. Some staff seemed harassed, don’t know if this was due to number of guests.
They gave me another room after I complained about the stench in the first room. Breakfast was included.
No food available after 9. Parking is hard to find. Not in centre. Gym is elsewhere.
Location in town centre Good food Beds comfortable and showers good with good hot water Some team members very friendly, helpful and professional, creating a welcoming atmosphere
Old building so rooms vary in size, style and maintenance Breakfast buffet hot food often tepid, food quality good Evening meals food good and very good value. sadly some team members are not very friendly or professional and sadly let the other team members down creating a less welcoming atmosphere
Convenient for town centre and amenities. Dinner was good. 50% of staff were friendly and helpful.
Very confusing signage in corridors. Took the first day to find our way around as we kept taking wrong turns when leaving our bedroom. Room 26 - no handrail in the bath/shower, so quite dangerous getting out. No handrail on the steps into the bathroom, so very tricky for the less mobile. The management should walk around the hotel and surrounding area. Check for cleanliness, check rhe decor and definitely check for safety. Not everyone staying at the hotel are 100% mobile, so people like us had problems with steps, etc. Then the staff.... there were a couple who were smiley, friendly and very helpful, but several who clearly didn't want to be working and found it impossible to be civil. The lady working last night on the bar was borderline rude, which really annoyed me. We had to move plates and glasses from one table so we could sit down. There were four tables, three of which were cluttered with empty glasses and dirty plates. The fourth had people on it. We had a couple of drinks and when we left, the dirty glasses and plates were still sat there. Clearly tidying up was not part of the job description. Overall, the stay was okay, but we will not be coming back. I would expect better for a £300+ for a two nights stay.
Gute Lage, Parkplatz direkt vor dem Haus.
Die Freundlichkeit des Personals hielt sich in Grenzen. Das Bett sehr schmal. Die Luft im Zimmer war nicht angenehm.
Good shower pressure Comfortable bed Location Reasonable breakfast Clean Ok for a night for the price
Shower head is fixed and at 5ft 11 had to stoop to wash hair. Shower spray wet all of the floor/screen is not long enough. Mouldy areas in bathroom. Fan poor everywhere misted so had to ipen window. Room reasonably clean - some cobwebs on ceiling noted. Looks well worn/used Parking - free for all people did not use allocated spaces Acceptable for price and location
Lovely building, with nice gardens
Nothing really. Could do with air conditioning in the reception area and the rooms, but I appreciate that that can be expensive to install and run. But as our British summers get warmer, it may be something they will have to do.
Location
Car parking, no A/C, poor breakfast (extra for a latte??)
It is a lovely relaxing place, room was clean and pleasant, and the staff are very friendly and professional
Nothing
Beautiful Hotel, great location. Not far from shops and train station Room was lovely, very clean. Plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits in the room. Breakfast is great, plenty of choice. All the staff were all nice and felt very welcomed. Will definitely be staying here again, hopefully very soon.
Comfortable and close to town centre
Staff are amazing
Lovely staff, accommodation and facilities. Relaxation in comfort. Lovely buffet breakfast.
Everything
Drinks to expensive
Very good value, nice staff good nreakfast
Another lovely stay. I have a sprained ankle and the hotel willingly accommodated my need for a ground floor room not far from the dining room. It was a very spacious and comfortable room for one person too. Fantastic food as both breakfast and dinner were excellent. One of the best mushroom risottos I have ever eaten. Very good value for money.
Nothing. Everything was great.
The staff are brilliant, they were so helpful and sorted out all my concerns The breakfast was very tasty and again you were greeted with a smile from every member of staff in the morning.
Unfortunately it was very warm while I was there and the rooms do not have air conditioning. The hotel did provide a fan in the room but it was still a little uncomfortable..
Great location well kept rooms friendly staff
Food was fantastic , unbelravable , staff were very freindly and welcoming , rooms were spacous and clean , highly recommend

Clean and fresh room, good to have a tall standing fan as was very warm.! Breakfast was good, staff were lovely, lady on Saturday evening was really helpful after we realised we had left card key in our room.
Only that the parking wasn’t great on the grounds, no parking bays so cars were just parked here and there, was really difficult to find a space both nights and couldn’t find any near by suitable parking.
It had a period charm. The enclosed garden was attractive.
Signage for the rooms was poor. It felt like looking for doors with non-room numbers, and hoping for the best. Directions to restaurant area and Reception were almost non-existent.
Friendly stuff, super breakfast, clean rooms. Great value
Quiet, comfortable and the perfect location.
I could not fault it, since it was exactly the accommodation I was looking for and needed.⁷

Amazingly clean & a very well organised room.
The spa is 17 minutes walk from the Hotel
Good location and beautiful building. Room was large.
When using the shower it soaked the bathroom floor, creaking floorboards and uneven floor Some staff very friendly and helpful with a smile on their faces, some not so welcoming. Breakfast was ok but Coffee was very weak and more like hot water.
it was very clean and welcoming
the blind in the bedroom didn’t fit properly therefore light came in as there were no curtains
Location, breakfast and the garden.
Small room but fans were available.
Nice room and good location

Everything was so dirty terrible bed bugs out the beds
The staff was the worst people I have ever seen the sink in the bathroom broke and they have tried to blame me in all the places I have stayed no body ad ever accused me of this
Stayed here before. Very central location. Know the area well as born and grew up in the town
The staff are the best thing about this hotel.
That I didn’t get the towels changed during a 3 night stay but it did say I could ask reception for more if needed.
Well situated and the staff were great bar one. Special mention to the lovely young receptionist who helped deal with our query about the dining bill before we left. It was outside her field of experience and nobody could tell her how to proceed. We were just going to leave the matter but she was absolutely determined it would be sorted, wouldn't give in and was incredibly helpful. She is a credit to the Bannatyne chain.
TV reception in our room wasn't great. Breakfasts were very good indeed but the lady working on Sunday morning was a bit of a grumpy wifie. Hopefully it was a one off - we all have bad days.
The hotel was in a good location, clean and staff were helpful.
The parking is not great, it is free for all but there is no bays so people just tend to park however they want. One night we struggled to squeeze our car out as cars had been abandoned along the side and made it hard to get out. It is clearly a busy place, we were there over the world cup and there seemed to be a lot of functions, taxis were struggling to turn to pick people up.
Staff were absolutely lovely. It was very good value for money, especially including a decent breakfast and access to the gym. Shower was good and powerful and bed very comfy.
Our room was far too hot to sleep. Housekeeping had left a window open and a fan which was appreciated, but it seemed that the part of the hotel we were in didn’t get much ventilation. It was summer weather but not a particularly hot day. I think it would be unbearable if any hotter. Another small note was that the bath didn’t drain well which made it feel unclean after only a couple of uses. I reported this to reception on the way out.
It had a lovely garden and a nice bar. Breakfast was good. Bedroom large and clean.
The tap in my bathroom sink wasn’t working on arrival - so no cold running water. I raised this twice but nothing was done over 2 days. Room and bathroom were a bit dated and bedroom was hot. No fridge. Not good for a 4 star hotel.
Location was perfect, room a nice size, breakfast lovely. Staff friendly
Not alot of parking
Lovely staff. Good breakfast.
No air con it was very hot in my room. There was no fridge in the room and i also thought it would be a larger room as it was quite expensive for a room probably smaller than one at a travelodge.
The location. The room was large. Comfy bed. Good breakfast options. All the staff were down to earth and polite.
I had room 10, view out to car park..so a little noisy. The bacon was dry and like cardboard. Small moans, but I would stay again
Great location and lovely garden area. Good breakfast too.
Rooms were unbearably hot and the windows were prevented from opening fully. Only a small fan doing is best to keep the room survivable.
Lovely airy hotel in the centre of town. Room large and bed very comfortable. Breakfast excellent.

Location & lovely outside area
Expensive bar & a bit of a maze to find the way around the hotel.
Great location, convenient to access but quietly tucked away, room was lovely, very spacious and clean and good facilities, and we had an upgrade upon checking in which was a great surprise. Breakfast was decent enough and overall great value for money.
Despite being on the top floor there was a lot of loud creaking from above, maybe as it was a particularly windy day this had something to do with it!

The location was very good for the town centre ..Rooms and buildings are very clean and the staff were very pleasant

Breakfast not best ive had. Bacon over cooked but otherwise ok
staff very friendly and helpful. good breakfast. comfy bed
car parking poor - lucky to find a space and haphazard bit shabby in bathroom - paint flaking, toilet seat not fitting properly
Lovely, welcoming atmosphere. It's very quiet, rooms well insulated, you don't hear much from other guests. Well maintained.
Didn't have a bath and no soap in the shower dispenser.

Excellent location. Very clean room and friendly staff. Gluten free choices available at breakfast. Loved the Elemis shower products.
Everything was very good. The hotel is rated 4 star and lived up to our expectations.very good value for money.

Location- very easily accessible from the A1(M) and cinvenient as an overnight rest point for a long south to north journey. There was plenty of parking. The staff were professional, friendly and helpful. Good quality food in the dining room for both evening meal and breskfast. Very comfortable room. I've stayed here several times over recent years and the good standard has been maintained.
