I had a really lovely visit to Jamahkiri resort. The villa we stayed in was really nice with its own plunge pool and view of the endless sea. Inside was spotless clean but showed a little wear from being by the sea. As others have said, there are lots and lots of stairs, no elevators, and the entire resort is perched on the side of a hill like a billygoat. I would stay here with the intention of spending all of my time at the resort. It's just so difficult to get from your room to just about anywhere (even if you stay within the resort) that you will tire yourself out with all of the up and down. I visited with a girlfriend who loves to work out, so it was perfect for her and I was there for the diving and snorkeling. We ordered room service and I ate at the buffet breakfast each morning (it was not included in our room but was worth the 500 baht with western and eastern food, british breakfast items, and champagne. There is a shuttle to Mae Haad pier and all the craziness that is down there, but it only runs 3 times a day. Otherwise taxis are surprisingly expensive out there, but useful when you need them. The hotel is kind of out of the way. Everything was lovely until checkout. Even though my AMEX travel reservation showed a check out at noon, they insisted it was always 11am. It was already 10am when I learned this and I was in the lobby talking with them (at the top of the hill far away from my villa). I asked for late check out the woman was stern but was able to give us until 11:30am. Why then, was a man pounding on our door at 11:10am being aggressive and insisting on standing at the door until we both left or handed over our keys??? He could see that we were clearly almost out the door. I mean bags were at the front door. I didn't understand why there was a sudden and incredibly rude shift in service right as we were trying to leave. I still don't understand what happened. When I finally completed the long uphill walk to reception to find out why that had happened, the women at the reception had no explanation and didn't understand what I was talking about. One even admonished me for carrying my own bag up the hill, "they have a team for that" but she wasn't getting yelled at by that team member, we were. It was a truly confusing end to what had been a really lovely trip. After realizing that I wasn't going to get any clarity that day, I just left it alone and left.
This is a wonderful place to stay. Relaxed and comfortable with attractive rooms. It is attractively settled into a hill over the water. Easy walk to the water. It overlooks Shark Bay which has blue and green jewel colored water. The staff is friendly and helpful. You don't have to snorkel or scuba dive but if you do this is the place to be. Be sure to go into town. It is a short and inexpensive taxi ride. Two restaurants in town which I suggest are French Market and Whitening. Go to Whitening at sunset. It is right on the beach.
I do not recommend this hotel. The location is beautiful and the view is spectacular — but that’s about it. There are many serious issues. The air conditioning simply does not work properly. It is unbearable at night; you need to take a cold shower just to feel some relief. The unit is very weak and takes hours to cool the room, if it cools at all. The internet is extremely slow and inconsistent, making it unreliable. For the price they charge, this is unacceptable. The quality of the shampoo and soap is very poor, the towels feel like those from a budget hotel, and the taxi to the hotel costs 500 baht each way. Overall, it is overpriced and does not deliver the level of comfort and quality expected for this category.
Do not book this hotel for any kind of special occasion. We had a sea view suite booked for our honeymoon, which had been booked months in advance, the hotel cancelled at the very last minute (we were on our way to the airport!) ruining our honeymoon and resulting in having to change islands and not getting to visit Koh Tao. Completely unprofessional and not worth the risk.

This is with the caveat that I have travelled across Thailand and never encountered such poor service and absolute apathy. My partner had 102 fever and the concierge did not deliver water so he can take medicines (I have screenshots where they basically didn't care). This place has a beautiful property, albeit old and in need of repair, with 0 soul in it. The staff needs training in how to behave with the guests. They don’t give water, there was a wasp in my room and I asked for someone to take care of it but they sent a person only after 4 reminders. They had some forced overpriced under quality Christmas buffet and no regular food and termed water as a 'room service' charge, not housekeeping. When asked for water bottles, they said room service is not available. We also found the previous travelers towels in the room laundry basket. Also, thin walls and we can hear every other room. While Koh Tao is beautiful, I wouldn’t go back to this unless I see some good reviews from other guests who can reaffirm my faith in this place. Everything was an effort in overselling and they wanted to extract money for every thing -- including an iced coffee at breakfast. Everything happens over WhatsApp (no phones in the rooms) and you're lucky if you get a response from them even in extremely urgent situations. What if I was bitten by a wasp in remote Koh Tao? Hiding under covers from a wasp in my room is NOT my idea of luxury. I am extremely disappointed and I wish I had booked through a travel agent so I would have gotten a refund but I am stuck.
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with my recent stay and to request a full refund for the Deluxe Pavilion with Sea View we booked. We spent three days without functional air conditioning. The hotel maintenance team entered our room five times to attempt repairs, yet the unit failed every single night, making it impossible to sleep comfortably. When we started complaining and asking them to do something immediately, the response was, "You can cancel your reservation and go anywhere else." This, after 2 days of ignoring the fact that we are suffering in a hot country. Never experienced rude, unprofessional behaviour like this. As a 5-star establishment, the standard protocol should have been to move us to a cooler room immediately, rather than subjecting us to three days of discomfort. I paid $721.50 for this room. Saff offered us a $45 discount for a room that lacked basic climate control, which is insulting. We expect a full refund for the Deluxe Pavilion with Sea View to address this situation. Regards, Alexander
Fantastic place with really nice facilities, very friendly staff and the best snorkling experience. Clean, relaxing atmosphere. Good food at the restaurant and the breakfast is great. Only be aware of the steep and long stairs everywhere due to the location on the cliff.
Staff was nice and friendly. We took the simple room which was old, sheets had stains, the ac was loud and kept waking us up. We liked the pool and the view.
Stayed in a villa for a couple of nights and then rooms due to availability. Like night and day - the villa was beautiful and modern, whereas the rooms were pretty average. Also, diving at this resort was exorbitant and it’s much much more cost effective to dive at a local shop 10 mins away - strange really as the resort is SSI not PADI and they go to all the same dive spots.
Fab place and yes there all lots of steps but we knew that before we booked - and it was fine . The 2 bed villa with private pool was amazing ! Staff were so lovely and couldn’t do enough for us .
This review is about their front desk and accounting dept. After my husband and I checked out of Jamahkiri. I received several messages on WhatsApp from them telling me my credit card transactions for our incidentals hadn’t processed however I checked my credit card and they had processed. I checked again a week later because they insisted and were sending me daily messages with weird emojis on it. I contacted my credit card company and they told me I should block that number. Months later they charged me again. This would be the second charge for a similar amount. I assume they did that so that the credit card company wouldn’t suspect it was a double charge. Either way now I’m in a dispute with Jamahkiti over fraud. Because they’ve charged me twice and ive also had to cancel that card. I’m not sure if this is a rouge employee or practices from their company but either way it’s fraudulent and very sketchy… so beware. The hotel grounds and room in general were fine but this entire encounter has soured the experience.
We stayed here in April with our two teenage daughters. We loved our accommodation which was the Two bedroom Pool Villa. Modern and clean with great views over the ocean. The staff here were very friendly. As many people have mentioned there are a lot of steps here (we counted 147 from our villa to the restaurant), but we knew about this before we went and so were prepared, plus it was great exercise for us. If you have any issues with steps this may not be the hotel for you. The restaurant itself was a bit limited on the food options, and the breakfast we didn’t feel was good value for money. Due to the location of the hotel getting to other restaurants is not that achievable if you don’t have transport. The hotel itself offers free shuttles to Mae Head Pier at certain times of day which we utilised. We also did a Dive whilst here and found the Dive crew great to deal with.
We stayed here for 4 nights and chose Jamahkiri because I wanted to get my advanced diving certification. The on-site dive center here was great and the instructors and equipment are top notch. The dive center and the hotel are run by separate management. I have a mixed review of this hotel because of the following: This is not a 5-star hotel by any standard. It is a 4-star at best. To be truly 5-star, you have to have much better amenities, service, and restaurant which Jamahkiri does not. We were happy with our room because we got an upgrade to a room with private pool (we had booked a deluxe suite). The room was brand new but there was construction going on around it so we were given free breakfast during our stay, which was reasonable considering construction noise and debris. Though the room was lovely, the amenities could use an upgrade. The refilled shampoo, conditioner and bath soap are very cheap quality, not what one would expect for a 5-star hotel. This room came with a kitchen which was great but the dishes, cutlery were bought in IKEA. Appliances also cheap and new but will wear out quickly over time. There is no telephone so you have to go to reception or text on WhatsApp. When ordering room service, you have to use their online ordering form on your phone. It took 20 minutes for them to get the order and another 40 minutes for the food. Breakfast mediocre. Lastly, the stairs. Expect to walk up and down a lot. There is no beach. For that stay elsewhere.
Lovely vine, beautiful place, attentive and friendly staff. We loved this place, we enjoyed the pool, the spa, the pool and the diving. While we were there we did hear a few people whinge about the steps. The hotel is built on what would be a cliff, this gives it a unique charm and character. If you have true mobility issues, are elderly or lazy, you may struggle with the number of steps. We did not and would love to go again.
Absolutely stunning hotel with super friendly staff who were so helpful. The ferry ride to Koh Tao was definitely worth it. It was such a relief to be met at the ferry terminal and transported to the hotel. The roads to the hotel are very steep and there are a lot of stairs to and from rooms etc. However the panoramic views from rooms, restaurant and pool are stunning! We stayed in a villa with private pool and views of the sea from our bed- just beautiful. The restaurant had a good range of meals, very reasonably priced and everything we ordered was delicious. There is great snorkelling to be had from the beach below the hotel. We loved our stay here and were very sad to leave.
Jamahkiri Dive Resort & Spa is one of those rare places where the setting truly elevates the experience. It amazes me that some guests complain about the number of steps—when even the most basic research or a quick glance at photos on the resort's website makes it obvious that it is built into a hillside. That hillside location isn’t a drawback; it’s a defining feature. It provides jaw-dropping views of the ocean and a sense of quiet seclusion that’s hard to find elsewhere on Koh Tao. The peaceful, almost meditative atmosphere is one of the reasons I’d return in a heartbeat. The staff are consistently warm, helpful, and attentive, and while the resort feels delightfully tucked away, it’s still easy to get around. You can rent a scooter in town (a great way to explore the island on your own terms), or rely on the hotel’s shuttle service, which runs to and from the pier a few times a day. A standout highlight: the hotel rents out kayaks and paddle boards. It’s an incredible value and a perfect way to enjoy the crystal-clear water and nearby coastline. In short, if you're looking for a peaceful escape with stunning views and don’t mind steps, Jamahkiri is a fantastic choice. Just do your homework—and you’ll understand exactly why it’s so special.
Lovely hotel. Beautiful surroundings. We had the 2 bed royal suite which was wonderful, specious, and had stunning views. Direct access to the sea where we saw sharks and turtles. Great cocktails by the pool.
Beautiful resort, but not ideal for those with mobility issue. Many steps up and down.
We had a truly unforgettable stay at Jamahkiri. The views are absolutely breathtaking—some of the best we’ve ever experienced. The hotel is spotless, beautifully maintained, and offers a peaceful, luxurious escape from the crowds. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options. We especially loved being able to snorkel right from the hotel—such a unique and convenient feature. The pool area is stunning, and lunch by the pool was a real highlight with delicious food and unbeatable scenery. The staff were warm, friendly, and always happy to help. Their kindness really added to the overall experience. The hotel is a little isolated, which is part of its charm, but more flexible shuttle times would be a great improvement. Currently, the shuttle runs to the pier at 9:00 AM (return 9:30), 11:00 AM (return 11:30), and 6:00 PM (return 6:30). It would have been helpful to have a later evening return or perhaps a shuttle to other spots like Freedom Beach—we had to rely on taxis for that. The restaurant is an amazing intimate experience but we also highly recommend the Eagle View restaurant, located just opposite the hotel entrance. It offers delicious, authentic Thai food and a very local atmosphere. We didn’t want to leave Jamahkiri—or Koh Tao. It was magical in every way, and we hope to return soon.
Amazing location with stunning views and great ocean access for swimming with turtles, reef sharks and colourful fish. The villa was clean and had everything we needed. Staff were friendly and housekeeping was excellent. Massage service was great and affordable. We’re in our 50s with knee problems and had no issues with the steps—don’t be put off by reviews! The food was okay, but there are lots of nearby restaurants if you’re looking for more options. Cable TV required a Thai number and payment, which was a small letdown. Still, we had a wonderful time and would love to return. Highly recommended!

I absolutely loved this resort! It has a ton of stairs - so if stairs are hard for you - not your place. We actually loved the stairs as a place to get exercise! The views are to die for and loved the staff! The food at the restaurant was delicious! We at all our meals at the resort! My daughter has a peanut allergy and the restaurant staff was sooo accommodating and helpful to ensure she was safe! They were absolutely amazing! We snorkeled, went on the kayaks and loved the pool. What a great place with great people! I LOVED this place!
Beautiful hotel, right by a great snorkelling area (we saw turtles), you can rent snorkelling equipment and the views from the room are great. Room was clean and staff were all friendly. The location is a little isolated as its a little far from the centre but was easy enough to get a taxi there and back.
This was our 3rd stay at this hotel and whilst we had a fantastic time, the hotel and accommodation is getting a little tired and could do with a refresh. The staff at this hotel compared to all of our other stays in Thailand appeared a little rude at times and were not as welcoming.
wonderful hotel, perfect service. we stayed here after being disappointed with another hotel and we needed early check in and check out, the staff coordinated everything without any problems and with a smile! we will definitely come back here! also perfect snorkeling right on the hotel beach with corals, fish and turtles! also the staff speaks excellent English. we should not hesitate when choosing this hotel. also it is often worth checking the price on the official hotel website, it is often lower than booking or agoda.
Absolutely amazing peaceful location we love it. staff are unfriend
Nice hotel with good location. The staff are pleasant. The pool was beautiful, but there really is no beach. There are very many steps, so not a good place is you have mobility issues. Good breakfast, and the hotel is clean. The rooms are large with a wonderful view, but they are somewhat basic. Nice 4 star hotel
Amazing view from the room!!
Incredibly beautiful location and resort has a nice boutique feel and not too busy. Primarily picked the resort as it had a dive club attached to it, and my thanks to Joy for looking after us and to Manny, who was our dive guide for a couple of days. His enthusiasm is infectious and was a wonderful soul to have as a guide around a couple of the wrecks and reefs. As others have said, it's not a single level resort. It's built on the side of a hill and cascades down to sea level. Be prepared. All the team we engaged with were super friendly and pleasant. The resort does 3 free transfers to Mae Haad during the day but if you want to come back to the resort outside of their return pickup times then it's about 400 Baht for a one way 10 minute journey. A really memorable stay, to have a room with an unrestricted view of the sea and bay was very special. It gets 5 stars from me for location and service. Only two minor points are that Internet access via WiFi in the room was a bit temperamental, and there were a few power outages during our stay. They didn't last long, though. Happily come back to Jamahkiri again. Beautiful resort, beautiful setting.
This hotel was like a postcard... the views, the common areas were amazing!! The staff was wonderful and the room service was great. My only regret was not booking this property for a longer time! Lots of stairs here... so a great time to get your steps in!
Super nice resort. Remote location, great snorkeling spots
Not nice. If you don't buy the buffet, you are not allowed at all to eat in the restaurant even if it was empty. You need to eat in your room and only from 10am. I wanted to order a coffee before 10 and the manager (I think the older one as the other were like 18 years old) told me NO on the 02 january morning around 7-8am. Unbelievable for a 5 stars ... Then, at 10 am I went to the swimming Pool. NO ONE AT THE BAR SWIMMING POOL...I waited a little bit so staff was late again.. Then I see this man again who was at the restaurant previously working there and I asked just for a coffee, he told me NO again and that I had to order in my room only so i contacted by whatsap the reception. I still have the text message and they told me that from 10am he was supposed to make me a coffee at the pool and then reception called him and he did make the coffee... He lied to the reception and said that I ask for a breakfast at the pool which I didn't, I said clearly that I wanted a coffee or a bottle of water. He just didn't want to do it.This man just didn't want to do his job and since the beguining was against me without any reason especially I am a very polite woman. It is funny because I noticed later on that he was like by magic very smiley and doing too much with some other Italian customers...Last hotel we were was BOPHUT RESORT AND MORACEA HOTEL and was not treated like that... This is clearly not a 5 stars!!!! Also the stairs never end even for a young women like me.it was so hard just to reach the pool or restaurant. The stairs never stopper.. It was so painfull. IF YOU ARE OLD OR WITH HEALTH PROBLEM IT IS GONNA BE A HUGE PAIN FOR YOU. THINK TWICE. Room service finish at 6pm then you are stuck in your room with no food ... ONCE AGAIN THIS IS NOT A 5 STARS SERVICE...
Great time
The sea view is beautiful BUT everywhere you go there are ten's to hundreds of steps. To go from it room to the lobby you have around 200 steps and you get all sweaty and angry. The hotel location is far on the other side of the island.
This hotel is a dream property. I had 5 nights and I cherished every moment. The views are spectacular, every where you go and my room had a wrap around view that couldn't be beat anywhere in the world. Sitting on my balcony taking it all in with such beauty can't be beat. The people that work here are so precious. Nancy at the front desk and Oneil were fantastic .Such great customer care. The dive center was so well run. It was easy to dive with them, they have two very nice boats right here, it was such a pleasure and a breeze. Shout out to Nick and Manny who were my dive buddies, and to the boat captain and helpers, they were WONDERFUL! The restaurant was very generous with the breakfast selections and the food and drinks were excellent, I loved the Lemon sodas, and watermelon juices, the pool bartender knows who I am, YOU took good care of me! Thank you
This property is GORGEOUS and the location stunning and convenient for snorkeling, diving and views. I would say it’s a “must do” destination! The only caveat that I would have is that the rooms are connected by steep stairs and pathways so those with mobility issues would not be happy here unfortunately.
This hotel is amazing with the scenery and the views are great staff very helpful defo will be returning
I had an amazing experience overall in this hotel. The views from the hotel are amazing, whether you are on the balcony, by the pool or just walking round the hotel the views are always great. It also has very good snorkelling and diving facilities, with easy access to Shark Bay where you can see turtles and baby sharks. The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, always making sure we were well taken care of. The food at the hotel was also excellent – everything we tried was delicious and of high quality, though prices were noticeably higher than dining options outside the property. The only real downside is the hotel’s remote location. Apart from one restaurant, there isn’t much within walking distance, so you’ll need to rely on taxis to get around, which can be expensive. It would be great if the hotel added a small shop for essentials like water and snacks. We had to purchase extra water from the restaurant, which wasn’t always convenient. One thing to note is that the property has lots of steps. While we enjoyed the workout, it might not be ideal for everyone. Overall, the hotel is a fantastic choice for those looking to relax and soak in the beauty of Ko Tao. With its incredible views and welcoming atmosphere, it’s a place I’d gladly return to – just be prepared for a bit of extra planning if you want to explore the island!
While the property’s location is excellent and it has great views, it costs too much. After a couple of nights elsewhere on the island, I felt there were much better options price wise.
Beautiful view and the new villa rooms are worth it. This hotel does have a lot of steps and requires either a taxi or scooter to get anywhere given the steep hills to get up to the hotel, and it’s quite far from town. The breakfast buffet was not great in comparison to others we’ve had in Thailand but the restaurant’s thai food lunch and dinner options were good. The housekeeping staff were not helpful and all seemed to hide/hang out on their phones on the 3rd floor hallway instead of cleaning rooms. The front desk staff were a little better but the hotel overall definitely lacks a level of customer service. If you’re very into diving and okay with renting/driving a scooter this hotel is a great option, but for those looking for something with less coordination best to book elsewhere.
Excellent dive with Gaël, very nice and safe! Thanks to Tom for all the information at the office, very quick answers to my emails also! I did very appreciate that! I definitely recommend Jamahkiri Diving Club, great experience guaranteed!
It’s really horrible! Dirty ,with dirty beaches With unkind staff. It is really hard to go to your room because of many steps , it is about 200 steps 😭😭 There is no telephone in the rooms It is far from the city and if you want to go there you need to use shuttle or to rent motorcycles It has very small swimming pool
We booked this hotel for a 6-night stay based on the reviews but decided to transfer to another hotel after the third night. The hotel’s aesthetic is impressive—it’s beautiful, and I loved it. Our room was spacious, and we had an ocean view, which was fantastic. However, this hotel wasn’t the right fit for us. It might be better suited for sporty people because it’s quite inconvenient to get around. There are about 400-500 steps from our room to the reception. If your room is in the 501+ range, it might involve fewer steps, but our room number was in the 200s, which was a total pain for my feet. Additionally, the room didn’t have any snacks, beer, or juice. We had to buy our own snacks and drinks since it was inconvenient to go to the restaurant for a beer or wait for room service. The breakfast was the same each day, and by the third day, we chose to eat elsewhere. We also tried lunch at the restaurant, which was okay, but the food lacked flavor. We preferred taking a shuttle to nearby Mae Haad Pier, where there were more dining options with tastier food. Also, there is no direct beach front. We went to the nearby resort, Haad tien and paid 100THB per person as entrance fee.It was beautiful. Overall, the experience was strange. I’m not sure why, but there was an eerie feeling about staying at this hotel. This was our fourth stop on our Thailand vacation, and it’s the only place where I felt something was off.
The free shuttle didn’t have enough space for everyone that arrived at the pier even if we confirmed by email with the hotel prior to arrival. Check in is a mess and they take you around in big groups where you can’t hear what is said. Rooms are getting old and not very well maintained ( we had a villa in the newer section ) In the villa, there is no AC in the living room part and no curtains so it gets quite warm when sunny. The staff is sitting in the stairs watching videos on speaker phones. This is far from a 5stars, a good 3, at best.
This is the first time in my life I'm writing a bad review. My experience was so bad I have to say something. If you are considering staying in this resort - DON'T!! Worst experience ever !!! There was major construction right outside my room, and the hotel did not inform me about it. When I complained about the horrible noise to the manager, she didn't care and told me not to bother her because she is going on vacation!! And the absolute worst part: I am traveling with 3 children. She told me (in the middle of the night) if I am not happy - to look for another hotel !! WITH ALL HONESTY - WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I EVER EXPERIANCED!!
Very beautiful hotel!
Just an incredible hotel in an incredible location. Second time staying at this location. It was just awesome. Stated for 7 nights and had a room on the 3rd floor. Facilities: Pool is fantastic with great views. There is a bar and you can order food and eat it poolside. Rooms are great, I think every room has an ocean view. Restaurant has an extensive menu. I had Pizza and Pad Thai and they both were very delicious. The views of the Bay is absolutely fabulous. Spa: we didn’t use the Spa this time because we were diving but on our last stay we did and it was definitely high quality. Dive Shop: We didn’t use the dive shop but did speak to some of the staff. They did arrange a private boat for snorkeling for me and my friends and my friends loved it. It was an all day around the Island diving tour. Rooms are well equipped, the room did feel a little warm but the staff bought a fan which solved the issue. The balcony is really great. Transportation. Transportation from the ferry is challenging, when you arrive it’s crowded and confusing. The Jamakiri representative is in the waiting area so you have to find him. My experience is best to be patient and come if the boat last so that you avoid all the pushing and showing. Insider Tip: when on Koh Samui I use a local taxi driver that I’ve used for years. His name is Lek +66 81-078-5254. Very reliable he takes me everywhere I need to go. Staff, everyone is absolutely wonderful. A big shout out to Pam at the front desk she is so friendly and very helpful. Yee at the pool bar was on top of his game every day. He figured out what drinks I liked after coming back from diving as I chilled in the pool. Every 30 minutes like clockwork would ask if I’m ready for another beer. The breakfast staff as well is very attentive. The Housekeeping staff is truly amazing, the room was super clean and the housekeeper knew we needed extra towels and it was always in the room. Thank you Jamakiri for a wonderful stay.
Jamahkiri is situated above beautiful Shark Bay. We stayed for 5 nights, and had a nice stay. The hotel room was very big, with beautiful ocean views. It was a bit outdated, but was cleaned very well every day. There`s a lot of steps at this resort, so we got a good workout several times a day. The pool area is nice, and some of the sunbeds have the most beautiful views over Shark Bay. The grounds are very well kept. The pool restaurant serves good food, good drinks but was a bit over priced. Brakfast was a bit disappointing, not lots to choose from, and only served white bread. The fresh vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes, salad, onions etc. had nothing covering the bowls, so there was flies all over the food, which resulted in us not eating any of that. I really find that to be a big problem, this really needs to be changed. Coffee was good, and you could order different types of eggs that was made fresh for you by a chef. That was very nice. The breakfast restaurant had ocean views, and it was calm and clean. We visited the spa one time, for foot massage, and to our surprise, the masseuses chatted to each other the whole 45 minutes, which made it not a relaxed experience. Very disappointing. There was a small private beach, where you could snorkel right from the beginning. One can rent diving gears, book diving trips, rent snorkel gear and kayaks. We had an amazing time snorkeling, and saw beautiful sea turtles, and plenty of colorful fish. Just amazing. We also enjoyed kayaking, and went over to the other side of the bay where there was a great little bar, with amazing views.
Location and room was very good however, customer care and service in the restaurant was fair.
The view to Shark Bay was outstanding from our suite. There are 276 steps from the sea to Reception at the top. A great workout everyday. The pool area is beautiful - a small gym served me well. The property is high on a hill top w a steep walk down (or up) to the main road or villages - the property is a ways from the main villages so you’ll need taxi or hotel transport w various drop and pick-up times - the main dining room/restaurant was lovely - great food and service when we choose to dine
I loved our stay at Jamahkiri! It was so restful and peaceful after two weeks of busy tourism. The staff is unbelievably kind and generous. We used the pool, diving club, and restaurants. Couldn't have asked for a better scenario!
Nice views also away from any noise
This is probably the best hotel on Koh Tao. The staff are amazing. There’s a number of steps as the rooms are in the cliff, but exercise on holiday is fun. This is a must stay place, peace, tranquility and lovely caring staff.
The overall stay was brilliant. Wonderful property and the view from our room was beautiful. The staff were wonderful people, very friendly, although were not as attentive as some of the staff in the other hotels, for example they forgot our breakfast order one morning so we just sat there for ages. A few minor things to work on, but overall would recommend, especially to anyone looking to learn to dive.
I had high hopes for this property, but it is far from everything on the island, it is very hilly with a lot of stairs and a person frequently injuring herself, it wasn't the best. The floors in the room are very slippery and I almost fell a few times. The water from the taps was also brown, so I didn't feel safe brushing my teeth with it or even taking a shower. Luckily I was only there for a night. I would consider another property on Koh Tao before coming back to this one.
Beautiful property full of charm and character, staff are perfect and genuine … loved it !!
This is such a gem. The resort is nested in the best bay of Koh Tao. This is where daily small snorkeling cruise operators bring their customers to see the huge sea turtles and black tip sharks that live in the bay ( we saw both !). The resort's staff is very caring especially Mr. Nice the manager in charge when we were there (from dec 24 2022 to Jan 2nd 2023). He helped us with all our requests and more important it was a great source of local restaurant knowledge suggesting the best restaurants to eat. The rooms are not the newest around but they are clean and cozy. Best place to stay in Koh tao by far, if you want be in luxury environment (as luxury as you can be in Koh Tao that is a very chill out island)
Incredible resort. Beautiful scenery, views and the food was great. Many stairs, can be a bit hard at times, but it's all worth it. Service was also fantastic.
We stayed at the hotel for several days. We paid for an additional night since we were taking the overnight ferry, and they moved us to a different room where the shower didn’t work nor the AC, so that was highly disappointing. I would not stay there again.
Beautiful setting to enjoy ocean and quiet getaway. Luxurious room and facilities. Friendly staff delicious food and very clean resort. We were so pleased to have chosen this place to stay for our Koh Tao dive vacation. Snorkeling in front of hotel is also excellent. 3 times per day shuttle service to piers if you want to enjoy beach, restaurant, shops.
very remote.
Everything was perfect and tip top!
It was great locations and friendly staff at the facility. Breathtaking sunset and sunrise view were exceptional experience.
Sure to covid all facilities except the main restaurant and the pool were closed. We had a pool bungalow that was fantastic in all aspects. The food was very good. It's difficult to swim or another on the sea sure to difficult access. Overall a very good experience albeit location not great.
orgeous resort with views that are amazing. Don’t let the mile to town fool you. I walk everywhere and this is not walkable. The road to town is steep and sandy. At night there are not lights. There’s a shuttle but unless you’re planning to shop, dine and get a spa treatment it’s hard to spend the 3.5 hours between rides. Also there are stairs everywhere so if you have any sort of mobility issue I would avoid. Stairs from pool to restaurant... more to reception... from reception to my room it’s down three flights and then back up one. From there is was maybe four flights down to the ocean. The stairs are varied heights, widths and have wavy edges to you need to pay attention. Food in the restaurant was average and priced as a resort. I think one of the dishes had gone bad one night. Business was slow while I was there due to covid travel bans and I was trying to order things freshly made. My “from the wok” dish was a stew that had soured/gone rancid. I misplaced a key (standard plastic room key card) and was charged $15. Tried to make spa appointments before I arrived sad was told it wouldn’t be an issue. They ended up being fully booked (which is shocking bc the resort was EMPTY). Dive shop was great to work with but you can stay closer to town and the beaches and they’ll come get you. (I would have done that had I known.)
its not like any other property. very memorable from check in to the room and property
Great view from room and restaurant. Breakfast was good. But dinner and lunch was overpriced for what you get.
Fantastic view, incredible service, great value, delicious food at the restaurant
Excellent resort except be prepared for a workout every day up and down steep steps. Nice pool area, very good breakfast selection in a nice restaurant with great views over Shark Bay and a nice breeze. Our evening meal was a bit disappointing. Nice room with sea view balcony and comfy bed.
Majestic setting, built in among rocks on the hillside!
It is an amazing, relaxing, oceanfront property with excellent snorkeling right from the resort.
Nice hotel with a nice pool. We stayed in one of the pavilions which had a good view of the ocean. There are a lot of stairs so not for the low mobility traveller. There is no direct access to a sandy beach. You can swim in the ocean but ocean floor rocky/coral where the hotel access is. Breakfast underwhelming. Ate dinner at the restaurant one evening but wasn't as tasty as the restaurants in town. Hotel shuttle convenient. We ended up hiring a scooter which I would recommend. Overall pleasant stay.
I enjoyed the stay. It would be nice to have an option to have another way to get to the rooms other than walk so many stairs. At the restaurant during the buffet, have all of the food covered to protect from flies.
When I realized that there are no ferries travelling to koh tao after 5.30pm, I tried to cancel 1 night at Jamahkiri as I would be landing in Koh Samui at about 8pm. However, they said they couldn't do a refund and didn't offer me anything else in exchange for a wasted night. I also got into a fairly painful motorbike accident in Koh Tao during one of the days that I was there and I had a wound that was pretty deep and kept bleeding. So i had a shower, and I used their towels to dry my body and some of my blood got on their towel and they charged me 500 baht for "dirtying" their towel. It's not like i can stop the blood from flowing right? Jesus. It's a nice place don't get me wrong but these 2 points that I've listed above makes it seem that their only interest is in the money and not their guests. On a positive note, if you want to learn how to scuba dive, their diving center has some of the finest instructors who are super patient and friendly and accomodating.
Everything from start to finish at this hotel was outstanding. The Restaurant was a little pricey but saying that the food was lovely
Jamahkiri was a highlight of our trip. The room was great with amazing views. The whole property was beautiful (especially the pool) and the service was second to none. Every aspect of our stay from the spa to the drinks at the hotel bar surpassed our expectations. We'd make a stop-over in Koh Tao just to stay here again.
The best spot on Koh Tao! Swoon-inducing views of magnificent Shark Bay from everywhere, especially our wrap-around bungalow balcony! Could not get enough of Haad Tien Beach’s white sand and turquoise waters and the giant granite boulders. Excellent food and great service. An in-house dive center and close proximity to downtown/the pier and Koh Nang Yuan. The snorkeling tour around the whole island was icing on the cake. Oh, and I loved the flowers! Could not have asked for a better stay.
Great view and nice pool. Poor choice at breakfast and incompetent staff. Overpriced and definitely not 5 star. Also, too far from the nice parts of the island and restaurants.
Beautiful location to wake up to. We loved spending time on our balcony, by the pool and sitting in the restaurant enjoying the view. Suggest for the breakfast the chef cooking eggs is present on the floor as at times the wait was long for food and we couldn’t understand why.
Great hotel. 3rd time at this beautiful resort, food is amazing, very chill. It’s a not easy to get to town, so if you plan to stay here keep in mind that you won’t be in and out of the resort. But it has a great beach and many activities to just stay there.
This was the best hotel we stayed in Thailand. It had the wow factor, location was the best, we preferred to stay the whole time at the hotel as it was too good to leave, even our 12 and 15 year old missed it after we left it 4 nights later. We snorkelled every day from the hotel marina. They have a few shuttle to main area everyday, we ate 2 meals at the hotel and one meal we had when we went in, there is either an option to stay in town for 3.5 hrs till the next shuttle arrives or 20-25 mins if you want to quickly oder pizza and shake for take away in the restaurant right where the Jamahkiri shuttle parks near their office. Breakfast is very good. This hotel has a lot of character. If we come to Thailand again then I would fly straight to Kho Samui and catch the Lomprahaya boat to Kho Tao. We really regret that we did not do scuba diving and hope to utilise it next time. This hotel won't be good for people who cannot walk up and down stairs, it will give your heart a work out. This was our favourite stay in Thailand.
The only CON of staying at this hotel is the STAIRS! I liked the exercise, but I had to climb 148 steps up and 16 steps down to get from my room to the restaurant. Also, the shower was a little slippery. They could maybe invest in some bath mats for guests to stand on so the shower floor isn't so slippery. Other than that, I absolutely loved staying at this hotel. My spacious room with a balcony and view of the ocean was spectacular. I liked the pool - although it didn't cool me off. It was too warm. The food at the restaurant was good (not great), but I was fine with it. You can rent snorkeling gear or kayaks down at the "beach" in front of the hotel, which was super convenient. I EVEN SWAM WITH A GREEN SEA TURTLE after being told that they sometimes hang out in the water in front of the hotel. I was in the water for about 2 hours before I spotted it, but it was worth it! The staff - all of them - were AMAZING!!! They were constantly checking on me to make sure I had everything I needed. The hotel is not close to the main part of town, so you have to take a taxi to go back and forth, but that's exactly what I wanted - peace, quiet and solitude. I would definitely stay here again!
Great resort with great hospitality and comfort
Excellent hotel with a very good restaurant Some communication issues with the staff but everyone is very friendly and helpful. You need to have strong legs to get up and down the stairs to everything. Taxis will add up when you go into the town but some free shuttles are available. A good coffee from a proper espresso machine is worth a few extra bucks.
We booked a 2 nights stay at the hotel and enjoyed every moment spent in there. The view of the sea was exceptional. Even though the weather was not good on the last day, we were able to find things to do within the premise. The guest relations officer along with the rest of the staffs were pleasant and friendly.
Unbelievable place - amazing view from our balcony. Great free shuttle to town. Hired snorkels and spent all morning in the gorgeous bay. The staff are fabulous. The service is first class. Everywhere you turn there’s an amazing vista! Only thing I’d say - if you’re not fit you’ll struggle with the amount of steps from pool to room and room to reception. Also room to beach ! But we loved it!
Beautiful views, A LOT of stairs...(almost died walking up them every day) no beach, pool is nice, food is pretty good. Was very quiet and a lot of couples so not great for those who want a little excitement. The diving experience was sooo fun! Instructor Shaun from Australia was great. The staff were awesome. Shuttle to Mae Haad was quick and easy. Then an easy walk to Sairee beach for a lot of bars and restaurants.
This is not 4 star hotel I can't believe it. The staff at reception don't have service mind, they feel like don't want to service Thai people. on 13th Apr. the staff have pool party so noisy (they should not have party on 13th Apr.) on this day have many guests. no body want to take care guests. we went to dinner at hotel restaurant ask for table the staff lady just point finger to the table (This is they call 4 star hotel?) and the table not clean yet. The hotel staff not friendly. A resort with no beach. The staff at the pier was nice. DO NOT STAY HERE
This was a gorgeous spot. Private & exclusive with the hotel built to incorporate the cliff & landscape. The only thing that would lower the rating at all was the amount of stairs. Elderly or handicapped people would not do well here. Originally our room was 200 stairs from the lobby. The hotel was able to move our room but it was still a daily challenge for me. Otherwise this was one of the finest hotels we’ve ever been in.
We stayed here for one night and it is a truly 5 star stay. Amazing building design, architecture, staff and amenities. Getting to the hotel itself is very difficult as it is very remote and the roads leading the hotel are near vertical climbs & drops. There are scheduled shuttles to and from the hotel but we had scooters so it was very difficult & dangerous getting in & out of the resort.
It is a nice hotel, comfortable and that is it. Food is actually good, lunch time by the pool was nice. Limited options for room service at night. Jamahkiri needs renovation in my opinion. Staff is amazing
Hotel is set in a gorgeous location. Downside is a LOT of stairs. But the views are epic! Rooms are a little dated but comfortable. Air conditioners did not work that well. Wifi was slow. We were grateful to have been given a room that was close to the pool. Restaurant was very nice and they were very accommodating (we are vegan and vegetarian) and they customized dishes for us. Staff are lovely. They packed us a breakfast for the morning we departed because it was very early. If you do not drive a motorbike you will have to take taxis which can get very expensive. Beautiful relaxing resort with a scenic view. Would stay here again.
Clean, spacious, friendly hotel. Amazing view. Chill place, quiet, beautiful. A little bit hard beds.
I did not want to leave in fact extended my stay you can't say much better than that. Amazing views lovely rooms, good food, nice people.
Fantastic place. Want to go back already. Very memorable place.
We stayed in the Jamahkiri for 4 days and did a PADI scuba diving course with the Diving Club there during this time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Diving Club. The rooms weee large, clean and comfortable, with incredible views. The breakfast was good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is a little isolated, but is only a 10-15 minute taxi ride into town.
Located on the southern, quieter, side of Koh Tao island, this resort is complete with an amazing spa and an excellent dive centre. Services and excellent and so is the restaurant. The Thai side of menu is varied in a way that you can avoid repeating yourself, for breakfast do try the local / Asian fusion options. The resort is nicely built into steep slopes which helps to lose any “crowds” and create a very secluded, luxurious feel. The dive center is an amazingly well-equipped and friendly operation inside Jamahkiri Resort – your chance to escape crowds in Koh Tao when diving, also looks like a good place to do courses. The boat is stylish and very comfortable and speed boat runs to the Sail Rock are also available.
Thank you Jamahkiri. I had an absolutely wonderful 8 night stay. My room was beautiful with the most amazing view to start my day. Breakfast was delicious, the pool was refreshing with the plenty of loungers for all guests. Lots of stairs to climb as per previous reviews so something for guests with mobility issues to consider - however I think that it’s everywhere in Koh Tao, not just here. 4 x per day shuttle into town and the complimentary boat to the next beach was really handy. All staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and hospitable. As you can tell, I can’t speak highly enough of my experience at your resort. I really hope I get the opportunity to come back in the future. Thanks again!
Beautiful hotel. Great service, big rooms with beautiful view. Excellent spa very good restaurant and breakfast
