Nice big, light, comfortable rooms, good food, v nice staff. Quiet location within it's own grounds.

Lovely helpful staff. Came with my 2 dogs. The welcome could not be better restaurant meal was excellent.

Behind the tat, unnecessary cushions, cheap air freshener, plastic flowers and so much furniture there is a lovely house. Staff friendly but rest mediocre. Not worth the price.

Utterly unique place: location on large grounds, safe for parking (esp for motorcycles) and quiet. The building and most decor is like out of a time machine, with a bit of an Overlook Hotel vibe (but in a good way!). The room was very generous in size, and felt like a renovation started and was halted halfway through: the bathroom redone, but not the room; pictures on the wall of flora, animals, a reclining figure -- clearly no interior designer got the chance to gentrify the decor.

This hotel can't be evaluated on usual criteria. It's got so much character that everyone fits.

Good location, nicely set back from the road. This made for peace of mind for the security of our motorcycles. Great breakfast, and restaurant where we dined. Excellent staff, very helpful and courteous. Lovely room, with a very nice coffee machine. Good bathroom etc.

Only thing to note, is it's a fairly long way from town. No problem if you wanted to drive there, but a bit of a trek if you wanted a walk into town. Not an issue for most.

The location.

It was extremely over priced £200 but wasn’t as clean or welcoming as a Bed & Breakfast for £50. I think checking from 4pm and check out from 10.30 is only acceptable in a Bed & Breakfast, not somewhere claiming to be a hotel. There were fruit flies, dead and alive all over the room and bathroom. When I complained they offered to hoover them up but not give us a new cleaner room.

The hotel was comfortable and very clean and fresh with beautiful antique furnishings throughout. Our room was lovely and comfortable and our bed was superb 👌

The rules of the hotel. Book in was 4pm departure was 1030 I think £180 per night is expensive! especially when you count the amount of hours that you have basically spent in the hotel. Once you check out you don't hang about like other hotels eg reading, drink coffee etc. The hotel closes between 12 noon and 3pm daily so they want you out. .

Der Garten ist wunderschön, das Zimmer war geräumig. Personal sehr freundlich!

Viel zu viel Deko, Kissen etc. im Zimmer. Wir mussten uns auf der Konsole erst Platz schaffen. Wir waren im Halbuntergeschoss und die Fenster waren nicht geputzt. Die Veranda die zur Bar gehört müsste dringend renoviert werden. Der grosse Aschenbecher (grosser Topf mit Kippen) war sehr abstossend.

My room was very comfortable my only criticism would be that, given its location in the hotel, natural was limited.

Stayed in the Tower room overlooking the town. Stunning! Room was lovely and spacious, bed super comfortable, coffee and tea etc really lovely. Breakfast room was a delight and breakfast options were great. Staff lovely and friendly. I normally stay at a holiday let when in Hawick but this has changed my mind. Felt like a really lovely treat.

No issues. Only suggestion would be a mini fridge in the rooms to keep water cold, but it's not a deal breaker.

When your room is below ground level, and all you can see are tyres of cars parked outside those windows, which cost a £100 for a night, I’m afraid there isn’t much I can say on this hotel that’s positive.

Location is very good, on a hill overlooking the town. All staff were excellent, very friendly, polite and helpful.

The mattress and pillows were uncomfortable, note to self; bring own pillows next time. The room must have been right above the kitchen, banging and clattering noises stretched late into the evening, beyond 2130. I'm glad I remembered to bring ear plugs or I could have had trouble sleeping.

I loved everything about the hotel. I had a fancy coffee machine in my room but had no idea of how to work it so one of the staff demonstrated how it works for me and the coffee was lovely. I also had a kettle in the cupboard which I hadn't noticed so he showed me where it was kept. The breakfast was lovely too and I can recommend the Stornoway black pudding. The nicest I have ever had. The dinner was also very good for choice and was served the way I requested as I don't have gravy. The lamb was perfectly cooked and my friend had fish and chips which was excellent. The staff were very helpful and patient. The grounds are so lovely as the rhododendrons were in full flower and pinks and purples brightened up the gardens.

The driveway is very long and the speed bumps maybe need some attention, especially the one nearest the road entrance.

Wunderschönes Gebäude, traumhaftes Zimmer (1. Stock) und Einrichtung, sehr freundliches Personal. Gutes Essen. Schöne Hanglage am Rande der Stadt mit ausreichend Parkmöglichkeiten.

Einen Aufzug gab es aufgrund des Alters des Gebäudes leider nicht, mein Koffer wurde aber freundlicherweise nach oben getragen.

No fridge in room and no air conditioning in an unexpected very hot few days in Scotland .

Breakfast was delicious I had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Staff were very friendly.

We went as a group of 26 on a weekend vintage car tour. The hotel was everything that we needed and the staff could not have been more helpful. The building was initially the home of a local merchant and has huge charm and quality. The rooms are delightful. Breakfast and dinner menus are extensive the food is beautifully prepared. Our weekend was a great success and Mansfield House played a huge part in that.

The Hotel staff were most welcoming polite and friendly. The hotel was impeccably clean and well organised and the breakfast was delicious.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Our room (room 6) was very nice - light, airy, quiet and with an extremely comfortable bed. The breakfast and evening meals were delicious - beautifully cooked and good size portions. Lastly Matthew, Lyn and all the staff were friendly, courteous and attentive. Wont hesitate to visit again.

The hotel is a lovely property with excellent period decor. Well maintained and very clean throughout. Staff were very friendly, helpful & professional. Food was very good and good value for money.

Repair to four poster bed was basic and noticeable. All other dislikes were totally acceptable for a property of this age.

Food was good, staff were very good, room was not so good. Hot water took far too long to reach the taps/shower. Central heating radiators barely managed to heat the room.

Beautiful building in lovely grounds. Generously sized and well appointed rooms. Very friendlyband accomodating staff. I will stay again the next time I am in the area.

I found our family room to have a smell of dampness. It was of course at the lower level of the hotel that is partly underground. Not sure how they could overcome this.

I always stop here when working in the area. Darren and his team are brilliant and always make guests feel so so welcome. The rooms are very comfy and the food is great, tasty and freshly cooked. 10/10 for me everytime. Mark G 👍

I don’t think we have ever stayed anywhere like this. The staff and I assume owners were so friendly from beginning to end, nothing was too much. Nothing is brand new and ‘modern’, that is the whole point. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but the breakfast, just wow 10/10. The lovely lady and gentleman that served us were so professional yet friendly and welcoming, I could go on, but they could and should train others. Thanks again for our wonderful stay, such a pity we live so far away or would be back.

The room upgrade. Apparently we were upgraded because it made it easier for the staff - only too pleased to help... EVERY member of staff was so helpful - pleasant and the property was in good order too. A must stay if within your budget.

Excellent to have Nespresso in the room. I'm a sucker for kippers. Only suggestion: one would be fine, not two of them, and I prefer the traditional kipper, grilled with butter (hotels shy from this because of the cooking smell.

The beds were really comfortable and the staff were great. The food was also really good for dinner and breakfast.

There was nothing I did not like, the only thing worth noting is the entrance was not the easiest to find the first time I got their as my sat nav took me further up the street but that might just be me!

Een grote tegenvaller was het uitzicht. Op de website staat dat alle kamers uitzicht op de tuin hebben. Wat er niet bij staat dat dit ook een grindpad kan zijn. Er zijn kamers in het sousterrain van het hotel met ramen op grond hoogte. Dit was voor ons een grote teleurstelling. Gevraagd of we konden wisselen van kamer, dat ging helaas niet. Verder was het een prima hotel, vriendelijke personeel en heerlijk eten.

Breakfast was excellent. The decoration of the hotel is fabulous, it's a truly lovely place. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and very professional.

Breakfast was until 9.00am and we would have preferred until 10.00am but this was a minor issue made up for by the excellent food and service.
