Great breakfast Great location Mostly Great staff Great for pets
all staff but one very friendly
Really liked this place. Staff were great and food and outlook was great. Comfortable and clean rooms.
Nothing
The staff were friendly enough, the main building is beautiful, the dining room has beautifully arched windows. Our bathroom was nearly as big as our bedroom.
It has a tired, run down feel to it. Definitely needs a fresh coat of paint, chipped paintwork in the bedroom, halls and dining room. Broken window in the dining room.
The location was excellent.
The dinner menu was not what we had hoped for. We ate elsewhere. There were too many dogs in the public sitting areas. The chairs in the public areas were a bit too worn to be comfortable.
Amazing place, lovely rooms and delicious food. Very welcoming to our group and we will definitely be back at some point
Nothing, everything was perfect
Ideal location
Tired and needing refurbishment
Great central location on the high street, and a comfortable room if nothing special. Breakfast was good and staff friendly and helpful.
Slightly old decor in the main residential building.
Lovely hotel. Nice mix of classic and modern. Superb sized room and bathroom with a very comfortable bed. Excellent choice at breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Location
Location and charming overall look of the main hotel Parking spot Accessibility to the river from the backside
Our dog friendly room was in a back side of the hotel and felt a bit outdated, window not cleaned for example and didn't close well Floors made some noise when walking on them and you could hear neighbours when they were walking in the hallway quite loudly Breakfast was served until 9:30 and we were asked to make a reservation which we did at 9. When having ordered and going to the buffet at 9:10 am there were no more danish pastries, and other parts of buffet empty, and we were told they could not be refilled anymore which made us sad given overall high price paid for a hotel night Room a bit outdated but overall nice. I had some allergies not sure to what (I think dust)
Comfy bed, great full English.
Everything was ok.
Liked the style and it being very cosy the breakfast was first class dinner was really good but felt a bit pricey which restricted our use of the restaurant
The hotel to me is really nice but feel it could do with some decoration in some areas this is me splitting hairs I feel because we did enjoy our stay and will probably come back Peebles was a lovely place to visit
Cycle storage was very secure and easy to use
We were in the annexe and the room was a little tired. Very comfortable bed.
location - parking
advertised e- charging for the car - broken
Location was good, very central. Staff were helpful and friendly. Good breakfast, great choice. Dog towels provided at back door. Dog bowl and blanket in room.
Decor/paintwork needed updating throughout the hotel. Pillows were uncomfortable. Noisy during the night. Handle missing from bedroom window.
Super friendly receptionist and manager. Really good location, in the centre of town with a back door onto the green. Place was cosy with a beautiful restaurant and room was very clean.
Room was warm and bath is looking a bit worse for wear.
The whole place is steeped in history. The staff go above and beyond
Good location and amazing breakfast. Beds were comfortable and room was spacious.
Great location on the Main Street with parking. Staff were great.
Nothing
Very central with parking to the rear. Good breakfast in large breakfast room. Staff pleasant. Bathroom very nice, modern. suspect newly refurbished
Decor a bit dated and scuffed here and there. TV small. Room not large
Location and clean rooms
Big well run hotel in the centre of Peebles. The lounge and bar area was a great place to sit & relax. The staff were good. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed for a one night stay. We had a lovely view of the river from our room.
The room was close to a fire exit door which people were using to go out & into the car park and just letting it slam behind them, during the night this kept us awake. we told reception and they apologised & advised us to ask for a room away from the car park door next time.
Friendly helpful staff, comfortable room, perfect location, good parking
The kitchen was a chef down so cooked service was very slow, and the unfortunate serving staff were having to deal with the complaints. Hopefully will be remedied soon.
Well-located. Excellent bike storage in a very secure outbuilding. Food was very good - both evening meal and breakfast. All staff were great and friendly. Communication prior to arrival was timely and accurate.
Food
Paint peeling off Not enough toiletries for two Not enough tea and coffee Biscuit to share ! Dated bathroom with mixer tap for shower impossible to get right temperature Not the modern bathroom shown on booking.com Disinterested staff on check in , no warmth Absolutely not worth the money I paid for this - 311
The location perfect. Staff pleasant and efficient. Room was cleaned every day and new towels provided. Good breakfast with a lot of choice. Have stayed a few times now and have already booked to go back.
Nothing to dislike like except maybe a trivial thing. The pillows are not very comfortable.
Great staff. Great location. Room immaculate. Lovely food.
Nothing.
Can’t get a better location in Peebles. The onsite parking was a big plus for us. Breakfast was good. Our favorite part was lounging with a good drink/coffee bar available.
Location and parking
Hotel decor was a little tired
Location,breakfast and staff excellent
Room smaller than expected and decor a bit tired
Fabulous view. Quiet room in a brilliant location. Good breakfast made to order.
The location was perfect, my room was very comfortable and well equipped, and the lounge, dining and reception areas were very impressive and comfortable. Plenty of car park spaces round the back.
Nothing.
Room very spacious with modern bathroom and large shower. Nice to have breakfast served at our table. Excellent menu to choose from.
Don't be put off by the view of rear of hotel from Tweed Green. It's much better than it looks.
The breakfasts. The receptionists. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The dinner did not live up to the posh ambience of the restaurant on the evening.
Comfortable room. Fabulous breakfast
Nothing.
Excellent location in the centre of town
Property dated. On site car parking limited.
Breakfast was such a good choice Room was lovely and bed very comfortable Staff were really lovely and very attentive We will be back

Great location
We were in the back of the hotel and the room was very dull
It was a little dearer than I’d normally pay - possibly because it was a busy weekend with the Peebles Country Show being on that weekend. WAY nicer than I’m used to. Beautiful views from the rom - over the river - and very pleasant quality of decor and fittings. Fabulous dining room and breakfast. WELL worry the money. Top marks from us
Hard to fault it. We didn’t dine there - did have a drink though. Drinks were fine but evening meals were quite pricey
Topplek in het centrum, fijn terras, prima parkeergelegenheid, goed ontbijt
De receptie zou vriendelijker kunnen.
Reasonably priced; comfortable families; clean room, bed, and bathroom; lovely shower and towels, easy parking; close to beautiful stretch of the River Tweed.
Couldn’t get internet connection despite applying the code @tontin3
Hotel on high street but bedroom not noisy and great for shopping or a wander. Wonderful staff. Very pleasant, efficient, nothing too much trouble. Good service in restaurant. Nice open lounge and dining areas. Room clean, comfortable double bed. Bath and shower, perfect. Evening meal extremely good. Wonderful sirloin. Well worth the money, baked Alaska lovely . Prices very reasonable for good food. We thought the dinner bnb a good price. Nice breakfast selection and tasty. .There was a fan in the bedroom which was appreciated with this heatwave. Parking at back, first come first served. Extra back street parking just outside their car park by the green overlooking the river. A1
An old hotel but good value for money. The breakfast was excellent
Lots of stairs
This hotel is very good in terms of staff service, food and location. The rooms are very dated and tired, but the bed was comfortable. If travelling for business it is ideal but pricey, but i would be very disappointed if i was travelling for leisure or holidays.
Location
The room was okay and comfortable enough.
It wasn't the hotels fault, but we were woken every hour of the night by a car alarm outside, so it was a very restless night. And to top it all off, we couldn't get the shower working in the morning. We didn't have time to get someone in reception to come and investigate as we had to leave quite early, but we reported it when we left. The room was also stuffy and warm as we were on the top floor.
Staff were fantastic. What a lovely group. Location stunning. Breakfast amazing.
Exceptional breakfast, staff very friendly, bed was really comfortable.
The room was just slightly dated if anything and quite dark.
Sauber, freundlich, Frühstück super, Betten super Parkplätze für Motorräder vorhanden
Die Zimmer zur Straße sind etwas in die Jahre gekommen
Near all the amenities,shops,restaurants
Looks a little tired in areas
Unique and had character
Nothing at all
Tesisin konumu harika, çalışanlar çok eğlenceli, kahvaltı müthiş. Labirent gibi koridorlardan odaya ulaşmak ilginç ☺️
My wife and I went for breakfast at the Tontine, very disappointed withe the breakfast which consisted of toast no butter, black pudding and haggis thinly sliced and overcooked, one slice of bacon, one sausage under cooked, tatie scone overcooked, mushrooms, six tomatoes and one fried egg.We were really looking forward to it but the plates and the food could have been warmer.I said to the waitress who collected the plates about the food and she said she would notify the Chef. D&A
Location and a nice spacious room.
Restaurant service and the quality of food was not impressive. Lack of knowledge and poor quality of the food.
We had an exceptional stay at The Tontine Hotel in Peebles from start to finish, and we cannot recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, Samuele at reception made us feel so welcome – he was warm, friendly, incredibly helpful, and went out of his way to assist with every request, from local recommendations to arranging our travel onward. His professional yet genuine service truly set the tone for a brilliant visit. The breakfast each morning was absolutely delicious – a wonderful selection of high-quality, freshly prepared hot and cold dishes, with plenty of choice for all tastes. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the service in the dining room was just as attentive and friendly throughout. A beautiful hotel in a lovely location, with staff who really care about their guests. We will definitely be returning! Justyna and Marcel

Tontine is so conveniently placed in the High Street, lots of shops and cafes all around and the River Tweed behind the hotel for a stroll. Staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Service was 1st class. Beds, sheets and towels were pristine and the room was serviced daily. Food was good but could offer more choice. The lift was a must for my 92 year old mum.
There was nothing I didn’t like about the hotel.
Breakfast excellent. Well equipped bathroom. Excellent staff.
Excellent location. Spacious room. Ready on arrival. Staff friendly and efficient. Food lovely
Rooms really warm.
Great location. Excellent and friendly staff.
We had a nice breakfast. Plenty of variety to choose from location was in the town. I’ll deal to walk around.
The breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly. Excellent location in the centre of Peebles. Public areas are lovely.
The bedroom we had at the back in the extension while clean was really in need of refurbishment.
We stayed here for one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our room had a beautiful view out to the river tweed, it was also clean, spacious and had a very comfortable bed (we both suffer from back pain so a comfortable bed is a must). I recommend trying some cocktails as we did in the afternoon. We ate elsewhere in the evening but really enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. Friendly and efficient staff serving and a very good number of choices. I would highly recommend this hotel, we had a lovely time and wouldn’t hesitate to book again in the future
Stayed here with our dog for 3 nights. Hotel location is great with front access direct to town centre and back door access to the river and parkway which was great for the dog. Rooms were good.. clean, tidy and spacious. Special mention to Laura on Reception who was excellent from point of booking direct on telephone to our leaving. Laura was friendly, helpful and professional at all times. Breakfast was a slight let down with improvements needed on food (cold on some occasions) and service which could have been more attentive.
Very nice hotel with comfortable room. Central location in the town. Staff very good. Food in the restaurant very good and well presented.
Nothing
Great position x right in the heart of the city centre x and back of hotel over looked the river x
Quite a lot of stairs if you have mobility issues x
Great location and room was very clean and comfortable.
The stairs from the car park to the room.
Central location for shopping and scenic walks also very polite and friendly staff.
It would have been nice to have a fridge in the room to keep bottled water cold as it was extremely hot weather during our stay. Everything else was lovely.
Lovely Hotel ,cosy room with a fantastic view , had a super fish dinner Halibut. Best I’ve ever had ,Breakfast was great too , very good choice. , staff were lovely , hard working. we were blessed with sunny weather ,thanks so much to all at the Tontine
Rooms breakfast ice cold milk

My fav hotel in peebles, great service, great food and drink, amazing staff and super secure bike lockup ...perfect for Glentress MTB
Another great eve fot MTB
Good central location
Looks a bit tired
Breakfast menu was fabulous and the dining room service excellent. Lovely large room and huge comfortable bed.
Guy on reception could do with some customer training!
Everything about The Tontine is so relaxing and the staff so friendly and helpful. Can't wait until we have our next visit planned
We love going to Peebles and the Tontine is an excellent place to stay with a very friendly atmosphere. The rooms are good value, clean and quiet and the breakfasts offer you almost anything you could want.
Great location. Friendly staff
Bathroom seemed a little “tired”. Noisy people in room close by woke us up around 3.00 am.
Location was good
Our room was old, mould on bathroom ceiling. Overlooked back of hotel( kitchen area I think) sound of industrial fans going .
A black hair on the pillow when we arrived, no fridge in the room. Cost was very high for the quality of the hotel
Lovely decor in the lounge and dining room. It was in the centre of Peebles and parking was available. Our room was very nice and a good size. Beds were comfortable. We had a fan in the room which was great as it was very warm the 3 days we stayed. The shower had good pressure. There was a lift to reduce the number of stairs down to the lower level where our room was which my husband appreciated as he has arthritis.
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
Central location
Single room v hot and with poor WiFi
Great location , lovely staff
A bit dated could do with renovation
We booked it last minute as we had issues with our tent. We just booked the only hotel available in Peebles at the time so wasn’t expecting much. But all the staff were absolutely lovely. The guy who dealt with us when we checked in gave us tips on parking and he went and checked the room was good enough for us before we turned up. The room was more spacious than I had expected. The breakfast was amazing too. They had loads of options for fish which we haven’t really seen before.
Nothing. Maybe it was a tad too warm but we opened the window.
breakfast good food and meals in evening good as well as service to attention on needs. early start means more time out and late evening dinner just right for relaxation to enjoy a glass of wine and good food. Irene
i have no reasons to complain about overall service.. i use a walker to walk about town but i use my stick to roam around the grounds and meal times. if you have problems with stairs then consider asking for advice as to accommodation. there is a stana lift in the Tontine Hotel, very easy to use and a well lit up area in hall ways.
Stayed here one Friday night at the end of June 2026 with wife and sister-in-law (two rooms). Generally the experience was good though some aspects - both in the rooms and in the more public areas - might benefit from a little more attention to detail. Check in was smooth - receptionist Brook was great - friendly, courteous and professional and an excellent asset to the hotel. Our double room was fine though a tad dated in style. The bed was comfy (though not the biggest) the decor was in reasonable shape and the room and en-suite were clean. The main criticism would be the lack of ventilation. The windows could not be opened, even a crack, and there was no other means of ventilation, which meant that the room was stuffy. A fan was provided (suggesting management is aware of the problem) which we had to have on all night, making for a disturbed sleep. A few other minor details could be better - the hot tap was missing its cover and drinks options were limited to basic tea or coffee - no herbal or fruit teas or hot chocolate. We didn't eat in the hotel but had a drink in the bar. As it was going to be a while till our restaurant booking we asked if olives, nuts or crisps were available and were told that they weren't, which seemed odd. Breakfast was a big success. We were served quickly. There was a good choice of hot options and what we ordered came quickly and was tasty and a decent sized serving, so all good. Staff that served us were generally friendly and professional. Some were more confident than others but of course this is to be expected when young people are learning. Overall, pretty good experience and reasonable value - just need to keep on top of these little details to reach top ratings.
Location
No major call outs
This hotel is right in the centre of town, perfectly placed for everything you could possibly need. This weekend was exceptionally busy as the Beltane Festival (an ancient Gaelic festival) was coming to a close, so the atmosphere was fabulous. I always book the same room, as it works perfectly for me. I travel alone and a small doublt with en-suite is exactly what I need, btw it overlooks the river Tweed, room 10 is just right as there is no street noise. Value for money, well nothing is any more but I love Peebles and have family close by, so I will be returning again and again. Service at the hotel is pretty good and there is a bar, bistro and dining room. The rooms are cleaned every day.
Excellent service, friendly staff
We used the Tontine for a private party for 15 people — pre-dinner drinks in the beautiful lounge followed by dinner in the stunning Adam Room — and it was simply a brilliant night from start to finish. The hotel itself is gorgeous. The lounge, with its velvet armchairs, parquet floors and beautiful interiors, set the perfect tone for the evening, and The Adam Room is a truly special dining space — high ceilings, arched windows, chandeliers. It has real character and made the occasion feel properly special. But what really made the night was the staff. Laura handled all the planning beforehand and was an absolute pleasure to deal with — clear, helpful, proactive communication throughout, and nothing was ever too much trouble. On the night itself, Joe managed everything brilliantly, supported by Ava and the rest of the team. They were warm, professional, attentive and genuinely seemed to want everyone to have a wonderful time. They absolutely delivered on that. Food and drinks were excellent throughout. We couldn't have asked for more. If you're planning a private event in Peebles, look no further. The Tontine is a gem of a venue run by a genuinely exceptional team. Highly recommended.
Location
We stay annually for The Beltane Festival and this year was as lovely as always. Good to see the wonderful Laura on reception, still a total credit to The Tontine. The hotel exudes tradition and is in the centre of all the action for the festival week. Great food too!
Only one complaint- the shower (we always stay in room 18, great for a family of 3). It needs a total replacement as it really isn't fit for purpose. It 'trickles' and is almost unusable.
We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It was close to amenities and restaurants in the High Street. Given its location it was quiet and we slept well. We had an issue with the shower in our room, which was rectified immediately which meant we had a great shower in a lovely bathroom. The rooms were clean, spacious with really comfortable beds. Breakfast was great for my partner, but as a vegan I found the options limited to oats (which was tasty). There was vegan milk so I could have my morning cup of tea. We took bikes and the bike lock-up seemed to be very secure. The staff were generally helpful. The lady I booked with was really friendly and Joe the duty manager was absolutely brilliant: attentive, efficient, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The only issue was that on arrival: the room was booked in my name and I paid, yet the man who booked us in handed the key to my partner and gave him relevant information, despite my holding my hand out for the key, only really responding to me when I needed to sign the check- in paperwork. I'm unsure if this was because I am female or not but I did feel a little irritated by it. The bonus was we could use the pool/sauna in the Bryony Castle Hotel 10 minutes away. We plan to visit the area again soon and will stay at this hotel. I recommend it.
Great location, friendly Scottish staff. Very comfortable room with super king size bed. Bath. Great breakfast choice
Location and cleanliness
Have just spent an enjoyable week staying at the Tontine Hotel. The Hotel is situated right in the centre of Peebles, giving guests good access to local shops and good restaurants close by. The Hotel is ideally situated for visiting the many attractions in the area. The Hotel is well maintained and offers all of the amenities you would expect from this type of Hotel. The rooms are of a good size, clean and well serviced. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The restaurant offers a small range of, but well cooked meals and excellent breakfasts. A couple of minor points that potential guests should be made aware of are, 1. Due to its position in the centre of the town the Hotel has only a small carpark, which fills up very quickly daily. There is also some on street parking to the rear of the building. There is no long term on street parking at the front. 2. Also due the building layout access to the reception/rooms from the rear carpark is via 2 flights of stairs plus a lift from the upper rooms floor to the reception level. It is suggested to drop off luggage at the front of the Hotel and then parking up. The above are minor niggles which should not put any guests from having a good stay at this Hotel. Can thoroughly recommend this Hotel.
Really central Parked in car park easily Able to sot outside
Very small double room, Bar area tiny
Look, this was a Hotel that dated back to 1808... so expect something with character. Welcome reception. Good food. Pleasant atmosphere.
Bit of a trek to get to the room... down two floors.
