The views at breakfast and the breakfast. Rooms pretty nice and beautiful old building.
The room I had was nice but right by the door into the wing. A bit noisy.
Location, very friendly staff, breakfast very good with plenty of choice
Bathroom was a bit tired and needed to be updated, shower went all over the place and made floor wet. Had to request a clean dry bath mat every day. No heated towel rail to dry out towels after use, toilet seat loose. Lift was not working.
Stayed here many times over the years . Best hotel. Comfortable and quite unique for chain hotel. (Best western) Best by far on the promenade but that’s reflected in the prices Parking available on site
This time they must have had staff shortages at breakfast . Not even many in . No milk no bread no cups one girl up the wall trying keep it all together . Cooked food bin sat there a good while . Not cooked to order like has been in the past Bath water pressure that low took a hour fill bath up . Rang reception to tell em I’d be a bit late checking out due to this. And was ignored .
Breakfasts were perfect, rooms were very comfortable and staff were super helpful.
Refill on the room coffee would have been nice, at one point seemed like some drunk people were making noise in the hallway. Also, for the "premium" room, the bathtub seemed a little small compared to the large corner one in the picture. If I had known there was different layouts for them I doubt id have paid the extra. Also the lift had a sign up citing maintenance issues, which would have been helpful instead of having to haul my suitcase up the stairs with my walking stick.
Staff were very good and helpful. Good breakgast. I f
Room was quite dark but comfortable
Great location, lovely view
Had to go upstairs along a corridor to go back down to a ground floor room. Bit inconvenient. Flies around breakfast - fruit and pastries
great location - tasty breakfast with a view of the sea!
bit worn in places but not a concern as very clean and looked after
Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room was fine except the towel number had not been increased to accommodate the change from single to double (immediately rectified on request)
Nothing we didn't like - only comment would be the hotel is a bit dowdy and would benefit from a bit of a makeover
Location fabulous, room very clean and comfortable. Too many stairs to the room, would have asked for a room nearer reception area.
Different evening menu. Stairs.
Location was great, staff very friendly and welcoming.
During one evening could hear hammering and drilling/ electric screw driver being used! This went on until 01.30 in the morning. I did bring it up with reception staff and they would look into it. They said it wasn't work they were carrying out. Couldn't say where it was coming from but didn't hear anything the following nights.
Excellent service, rooms very clean staff very helpful, great value breakfast
The position of the hotel is great for the beach and shops along the sea front with plenty of places to get food

Needs a new mattress
Perfect location. Staff were amazing. Lovely place.
The pillows, unfortunately, were as flat as pancakes. They had no bounce to them, just completely flat.
EVERYTHING. BEING HOME. WILL BE BACK ASAP WHILE I FIND MY FOREVER HOME 🏡 thank you all for being the most welcoming people. Wonderful place. I have too many amazing memories of special times spent with you all. See you all soon.
Leaving
Breakfast was good….location excellent…..great value for money
Staffing levels….a wee but thin on the ground, but well aware that if they offer great value, then there’s small concessions, etc etc
Location was great
The bed wasn’t very comfortable and pushed against the wall
Not the best I’ve had
The first room had a dirty cotton bud in the window sill and was actually 2 single beds pushed together. On our return to the room we couldn’t rest due to the loud music coming from downstairs
Staff were fine... Parking was good
Room was rather tired.. Staff were fine.. We did ask for a quieter room before we arrived and that was fine although the view from the window was more akin to an abadoned building site. mattress was terrible.. far to soft..dust on most surfaces... Toilet seat was a nightmare for both us... .not first time we have been disappointed by a great western hotel and if i realised it was a GW before i booked iwould not have booked... Wont be using Best Western ever again... Im afraid the name does not match what it says
Location. Friendliness of all staff. Atmosphere in the bar area. Food good.
Breakfast was good Location was great. Parking was good.
54 stairs to room .assistance with luggage not offered. Had to ask for anti slip mat for bath. Step up to bathroom not highlighted with stripe on carpet. Hole in one of the sheets Room not made up unless requested by 9pm the prior evening. Lamp between beds and tv on wall quite low husband banged head on both. Telephone in room did not work so had to negotiate the 54 stairs to reception to request room make up for the next morning and 54 stairs back to room. I then phone using mobile direct to reception to request tea coffee and milk as room wasn’t made up that morning Towel rail wasn’t heated so towels were damp from previous use. When we complained only one person actually apologised . .
The location is good and the staff helpful and polite.
It's a little bit tired, could do eith updating a little, the hotel layout is a little odd, especially to the back bedrooms, we had a streetlight right outside our room with poorly fitting blinds that didn't keep the light out at night too. The bed was a small double, the pillows too soft and the room cramped.
Everything
Excellent view from room breakfast was very good with plenty of choice
The first room we were given was not what we booked but was resolved in minutes.
The room size is great spectacular views of Roker seafront.
Very noisy. Constant drumming sound late into the night and then again from early morning. Tried to speak to the receptionist about it in the morning but not remotely interested.
Location of the hotel
Location of the room
Everything was straight forward
Bed wasn’t that complicated especially for 2 sharing a room.
Location, bar and breakfast
Music from bar was very loud as our room was directly above. Thankfully music turned down at 10pm, so all good.
Everything is fab in this hotel.... we always upgrade for the best rooms with amazing views 🥰
Having to come home 😥
locatie
muffig, mottig
Arrived at 1600hrs no parking available due to two separate functions. I was advised by a member of staff to find a side street and return after 1800hrs when parking should be available. Not what you expect after diving from Edinburgh. Surely the hotel could have advised guests in advance 🤔.
As above
Staff were very helpful
Double room was very hot, had to keep the fan on all night, and window open. Shower was very, very hot and could not reduce temperature despite turning to cold. Breakfast ok. Sausages had very tough skins, had to leave.
Excellent, very clean and tidy
There was nothing to dislike
Very clean room
Staff weren’t as friendly as usual
We didn’t have breakfast but the location is very good we were there for an northern soul event and we thoroughly enjoyed it we had been there several times and always had a great time
More bar staff would have been a big help sometimes we were waiting in a queue for a good while
Breakfast was good, room was good, plumbing a little noisy . Bar was OK, prices good. Overall all good.
All good 👍
The location is very good
No lift..broken they said..complicated stairs.. up and down again to reach your room...view out of window was roofs and fag ends.. bathroom dangerous no anti slip mat and no handles.. almost came a cropper...
Location. Room with sea view. Friendly staff. Layout of hotel. Outside seating.
Dogs allowed in the bar area.
Location
Breakfast
Very good location right in front of the sea. Clean room with comfy bed. Big bathroom and a nice bath. Staff were nice. We had a comfortable stay and will come back again next time.
..
Friendly and attentive staff, great location and food
Having to check out
Breakfast not requried
Reception lacked light
Great location, friendly team
The location, the food, the bar, easy parking, the staff
The position of the room within the hotel. Having to pay an extra £50 for ‘insurance’ which still hasn’t been returned to me
The view from my room.
Drunks keeping me awake in corridors, music blasting through my floor from wedding do, too hot in room, dirty headboard & coffee mug
Good location on the sea front Comfortable room but not 4* Good choice at breakfast Friendly helpful staff
Some areas missing a good clean- stairwells & light fittings in particular Windows/curtains in the bedroom not clean A small fridge is generally expected in a 4* Guests should receive a discount from the bar services
Broken lift meant my friend couldn’t stay
Location
Hospitality and needs a lot of TLC
Traditional hotel feel and beautiful view
Food not available at 7pm though it was a Sunday
The location was superb, the staff were very helpful and welcoming, and the room was very comfortable.
We had a wonderful stay at the Roker. The room was spacious, very well appointed, comfortable and clean, and the sea views were second to none! The bar/restaurant had great ambiance, and the food was really excellent. Genuinely, we cannot fault anything about this place. All members of staff we encountered were super helpful, welcoming, and attentive. But a special shout out must go to Blake. His professionalism, combined with what I can only describe as a true spirit of hospitality, have made all the difference when we arrived at the hotel after a difficult day. He is an absolute credit to The Roker, and I hope his manager is reading this! We can wholeheartedly recommend this place, and we look forward to staying there in the future, next time we are back in Sunderland.
Nothing.
Nice location and parking. Reception experience good. Bar staff friendly and chatty. Good outdoor seating.
The bed was not very comfortable, small and seemed like old style springs. Dated and tired. We were in a standard room, a bit disappointing, small and in need of bathroom refurb. Was it worth it for price paid? probably not, although in general it wasn't bad apart from our room. Buffet breakfast a bit disappointing, would have preferred a menu to order from.
We have stayed many times , last time was 3 years ago. Must congratulate the cleaning team as it was much cleaner than last time. A massive thank you to Russ , who did some amazing first aid. My Mum trapped her hand in a car door. She is doing really well , so again many thanks.
LIFT!!! We got stuck in it 3 years ago , somebody got stuck in it this Monday . It really needs mending , 3 people had walking difficulties in our group,so not ideal.
I was very impressed with the shower, towels , tea/coffee facilities. I had coffee and a sandwich in the restaurant area which was excellent too as were the staff.
My mattress was not of very good quality and was very uncomfortable unfortunately.
very nice view beach room is very clean 👌 staff friendly 👌 from 10/10
Un personnel très pro Et très sympathique Un emplacement face a la mer du nord magnifique Trop bien
Location
Friendly and helpful staff. Great location, free parking. Lovely comfy bed, good size bathroom, pub downstairs 😀
No lift, a long walk to our room at the back of the hotel, view wasn't good but very quiet and could open the window for fresh air.
Loved the terrace at that front.
Location was brilliant
How far away my room was. I advised at the desk of my disability and I f I could have a room close by but I was put right at the far end of the hotel with a lot of stairs
Right on sea front near lovely cafe called Tin of Sardines.
Lively yet not roo noisy.
Excellent breakfast, but they ran out of Granola after Day 1 and it was not replenished. Location was very convenient, since I was attending an event at the Yacht Club.
It's a shame there was a burned-out caravan dumped on Ravine Terrace. It was very unsightly, but the Hotel could not be blamed for that!!
Brilliant location. Good parking and friendly helpful staff.
The room was quite dark so had to have lights on in day. Had to request a room service. This should be an option out not in
Die Lage, kostenlos parken, die Größe des Zimmers
Kein Aufzug und keine automatische Türen. Mit schweren Koffern sehr beschwerlich.
Locality is beautiful, easy access to the town/walks/restaurants
Not much only criticism is decoration is a little tired and the water pressure is weak.
Location Shower was good Giid attentive staff
Tiny room. Practically in the basement Very noisy plumbing in the building Wasn't a tv remote but when reported it was rectified Very I'd building so quite creaky and noisy Cleaning staff Very loud quite early. At I point I had to go out of the room it was that bad. She was on whatlooked like a video call and volume was very high
Loved the location and rooms were lovely
Not very accessible for wheels users or pushchairs
The breakfast was excellent value for money. Very good quality and choice
Room should be cleaned every 2 days not 3
Locatia e superba
The king suite was beautiful. There was a small breakfast buffet, costing around £27 for two people, the food was lovely.
Lovely hotel, nice friendly staff
Nothing
Superb position, great room and a hearty breakfast
Decor and cleanliness
Great location. Plenty of parking.
Room was above the bar on the 1st floor. Noise from the music was horrendous. There was no way you would get a peaceful evening in your room if you wanted this until much later in the night
Great location
Menu could be better but nit picking.
Property was great
Location
Noise due to the location of the bedroom
it’s near the beach
very confusing to get into room was very small for the price mattress was awful very noisey all night and couldn’t sleep
Great location. Good breafast.
I booked a standard double and was given a tiny room with an obstacle course approach; up stairs then down stairs to what felt like a prison cell. There was a bird poo stained metal staircase for a view. I asked for the room i booked, based on the oictures on the website and was charged £60 for an upgrade. I complained but the manager refused to negotiate. Based on my experience I would avoid this hotel.
Love the beach side location to sit out in the sun and see the sea
The location is good, the price is fair, the room itself is OK, convenient parking. The bath was a pleasant bonus.
I took the cheap option, so the room was sort of in the basement, which required going up and down at least two different sets of stairs The room was located under a corridor or a staircase and I heard every step squeaking through it and there was quite some traffic
Perfectly located for beach walks, staff are always friendly and welcoming. Rooms are comfortable
Some of the rooms are a bit of a maze to get to, up stairs and then down stairs
Location was good.
Constant banging and noise behind our room until 12 midnight. Torn scruffy looking seats in the bar, lack of breakfast selection in the morning. Tables were sticky and un clean. We are not a wealthy couple and saved for my partners birthday for a night away, and were very disappointed in the run down areas of the hotel. Staff were ok, never lifted and head or smile.
Bed was really comfortable, having a sea view was lovely.
The restaurant was too noisy and loud. Food wasnt cookes properly , when compained about it was not offered a refund, offered a bowl a fries instead.
Booked for location as our hobby is whale & dolphin watching.
A big sign was in front of our window so we couldn’t see the view we booked for. Eventually changed to a smaller attic room with view. Better for dolphin watching but clearly not the room we booked.
Lovely location Lovely views
Nothing
Not much
Too noisy
Large room with sea view. Comfortable bed. Staff very helpful and friendly. A particular mention to Courtney on reception ebo i tbought was exceptional and is a major asset to the hotel. Professional, helpful, thorough, efficient and lovely personality. Very tasty breakfast.
Having to leave
Great location, very well kept and comfortable
I know it’s a job but I wish some of the staff were a bit friendlier. (Restaurant staff in the PM were great)
Convenient location. Room for was very clean, with modern facilities. Staff were lovely. Polite and courteous in all areas reception /dinning room /bar.
Limited car parking, some of the car park has been taken over by outdoor tables and chairs. We did not arrive till early evening, and had to block another car in order to park. Our room was a rear room accessed by many stairs /corridors. Uncomfortable bed.-room 134
Chambre grande
Plomberie difficile à régler. Salle de bain grande mais peu de rangement.
Great junior suite fantastic view, comfy pillow 😴
Squeaky floor boards lol
Fantastic sea views, Excellent breakfast - good range and eggs always freshly cooked and perfect. Friendly helpful staff. Plenty of car parking. Room interestingly decorated and furnished.
Some blinds for the bathroom window would have been good rather than just relying frosted glass! It feels very uncomfortably exposed at night with the bathroom lights on. This especially because the room (145) was at the front of the hotel in full view of the bar, carpark and everyone passing on the road!
Staff lovely - great location
We were staying in an Executive Room - although nice & spacious the room was tired & needing refurbishment. The shower total waste of time short hose - shower head came off & when reported - it was allegedly fixed but the washers has been removed & in the plug hole & water was coming out from top end& bottom end & trickling out of shower head - not very Executive at all
Have stayed many many times it’s always very good
Nothing I like the quirkiness’s
The location is fantastic
Our room was down stairs and felt like it was in the basement , we asked on arrival if there was any chance of an upgrade ( we offered to pay excess) to a room on first floor but were told there was no option as all rooms were booked out.
Excellent staff, plenty of parking, good food and beverage options. Great views and only a stone's throw from the beach.
A long hike to the room in the basement - guess you cannot do much about that.
Very nice room and good breakfast
Nothing
The rooms facilities are good it's a wonderful size with glorious sea view across both directions of Roker bay from 3 large windows ( room 147) it's a junior king suite with a jacuzzi bath, walk in shower and his and her sinks.
We have stayed at the Roker many times, and previously been happy, on this occasion (it will be the last), things have gone seriously downhill. When we arrived there were very few people in the bar or restaurant, however the carpark was completely full, previously there were 4 or 5 disabled parking spaces, but since expanding the outside seating for the restaurant, there is now a single disabled bay, and this was taken by a self entitled Audi suv owner with no blue badge. When I enquired at reception about parking ( having pointed out my mobility issues) I was directed to a parking area at the rear of the hotel, again one single disabled bay with a porche suv a personal plate and no blue badge. After parking and getting our bag's from the car, we found by following signs it was about 100 yards to the hotels rear entrance. To be faced with a flight of around a dozen stairs and a route March through the bar to reception. We booked in and used the lift to the first floor for our room. After parking our luggage headed to what used to be a wonderful restaurant, the amazing menu has been replaced with a grill bar menu with the usual pretentious wording trying to make out its something it really isn't. When the waitress came to take our order, we asked what flavour the soup was, when she returned and told us we declined and asked for 2 pate's as starters, and a fish and chips main for myself and the burger and fries for the wife. 15 minutes later she reappeared with a soup and a burger and fries. We explained our order again, she then tried to leave the burger and take the soup away, more explaining VERY SLOWLY, that we had ordered the pate as a starter for both of us and then wanted the burger and fries as a main course plus a fish and chips. She returned shortly with our starters. Having eaten them she delivered our mains.
Great location. Nice bar and outdoor seating area. Room was lovely and comfortable
