Was here for 2 nights for my daughters and son in laws wedding and had a great time food was very good staff very friendly really nice place.
The rooms were very warm as there was over 20 of us there and most said the same
Spa was nice, hotel not. Staff in restaurant friendly
Hotel really shabby, dirty stains on the bed sheets, walls, ceiling, curtains. Flies in the bathroom light, toothpaste stains from previous guest. Headboard was flaking off on the pillows, had to ask to change rooms which was accommodated, next room was better but still not great. Pillows were flat, may as well have not had any, mattress was solid. For a hotel advertised as “luxury” I was extremely disappointed. I’d been looking forward to this and a chance to relax from busy life but didn’t leave refreshed.
Spa facilities were good. The food was flavoursome. Staff friendly.
I’m a pescatarian. First night no salmon starter or main. Same for second night, with the addition of no Thai fish cake starter. It’s not the biggest menu - so reduced my choices right down. No vegetarian sausages available on the second morning. Water in main pool was very cold. Parts of the spa looked in a state of disrepair and a couple of rooms were out of order. No Wi-Fi or data available in room. Available in spa/cafe

Diner in het restaurant. Voorbereide gerechten lauw geserveerd.
The resort is great with access to the onsite spa amenities. Fantastic location next to the canal which makes for a relaxing walk. Breakfast is buffet style with a large selection on offer.
I would struggle to find a fault with our stay, to us it was a much needed welcome break.
Lovely location and grounds well kept. Room was clean and tidy.
Tv was quite old but handset kept freezing and didn’t respond to buttons pressed. Stream running through the grounds smelled absolutely terrible and very unpleasant. Everything to enable you to make a hot drink was stuck in the wardrobe instead of being set up in the room.
Location and great food
Awful WiFi - could not do any work.
Really nice and professional people working at the reception and spa. Room so spacious, modern and well equipped. Spa facilities available after check out as well. Well worth it.
Spa need a bit of maintenance (there was light fixture hanging of the ceiling) jacuzzi Spa decorative stones popping off spot lights missing etc
Very nice place with good amenities. The staff is very polite.
NA
Thank you for the cup cake and birthday message. Also thank you for putting us in a room with lovely views as I requested I really appreciate that.
Nothing
The staff were super helpful and the spa was lovely. There was a great breakfast selection and our room was very light and spacious.
The bed was very hard.
The leisure facilities where very good
Room wasn't really up to standard, bathroom facilities were dated and basin was cracked.
Wedding venue and gardens and outside areas very good. Wedding meal excellent
Room 101 dark and a little shabby. Mattress and pillows not very comfortable. Bathroom dated and water from shower not vdry hot
Poor
Poor
Beds beautiful and comftable
Bathroom in arrival wasn't clean, had to clean myself Desk Mirror in bedroom unable to use
Beautiful place friendly professional staff lovely room
Lovely stay
Enjoyed the leisure facilities
Restaurant could have done with background music for a better atmosphere
Excellent Spa facilities.
Average food quality, expensive drinks.
Value for money and good breakfast
Spa was a bit dark
Stafc very friendly and accommodating
Location isolated
Breakfast was amazing every you could want
We had a fry up food was cooked perfect not greasy
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly from the minute we got there The deal we had was very good especially as it allowed us to use the spa facilities. Easy location to find and plenty in the area to do
The jacuzzi in the spa could do with some attention around the outside ,also pebble surface not easy to stand on when disabled.
Nothing
Old dirty smelly stained bed linen threadbare carpets couldn't even face going to breakfast the whole place is shocking
Our entire stay was excellent. The staff were very efficient, polite, helpful & obviously well trained to their duties.
The room was ok.
The drinks prices are ridiculous. £11.80 for a glass of wine!!!
Breakfast had a large selection. Hot and cold choices. Lots of fruit, cereal, a range of hot and cold drinks. Cooked breakfast was nice, both white and wholemeal bread available for toast, with a variety of jam/Nutella/marmalade. The room was a decent size, nice and comfy bed. Bottled water provided. Balcony doors opened onto a view of the outdoor area and canal. Lots of room in the wardrobe to hang clothes. Iron and ironing board, electric fan. All the staff were lovely and helpful. The spa facilities were good, fantastic massage. Waterside restaurant is a must. The food is amazing. Beautifully presented, great menu and full of flavour. I sat in the little alcove with a view of the canal. Fabulous meal.
This hotel has seen better days. There is considerable signs of wear and tear that should be seen to. A large crack in the bathroom basin, no air conditioning and a very squeaky fan. Thankfully, we fixed the fan ourselves. The safe was not working as the batteries had died. The lift was out of use for the whole weekend. The spa facilities had visible damage to tiled walls. Lots of missing pieces, which is obviously going to cause a lot of problems with water damage. Many of the lockers did not lock or were out of order. One of the steam/sauna rooms had a sign 'out of use' and the working sauna had no lights working in it. There were water supply issues, meaning the showers were out of action for a couple of hours. The toilets in the spa had a distinct odour. It seems the management needs to pull up their socks and address the issues, because their front of house staff are doing a fantastic job.
Location was great, grounds looked nice.
Room was very run down, basic and old fashioned. Bathroom door and furniture need replacing, broken and scratched. No air con. Not worth the money we paid for it.
Great location and service
Staff were friendly and helpful
Rooms needed a bit of facelift
The spa pool and jet pool the ambience and where situated
The bathroom in room was so tiny couldn’t even open the door properly or get to the toilet roll holder and bed quite hard bottom Of door all peeling off in bathroom .. place needs a re vamp as some boards in the sauna were lose and coming off very dangerous
The reception team were excellent — very friendly, helpful and quick to move us to another room without any fuss. They were genuinely one of the strongest parts of our stay. My massage was absolutely lovely and the therapist was excellent. I also want to make it clear that my comments regarding cleanliness are not directed at the housekeeping staff. Our housekeeper worked very hard and we actually left her a tip because we appreciated her efforts. The location is lovely, and breakfast was fine.
We stayed at Lion Quays for my birthday weekend, and unfortunately the overall experience was quite disappointing. The hotel itself feels very tired and in need of proper renovation and maintenance. We actually had to change our original room because the condition of the shower was unacceptable. The spa was also a mixed experience. Although my massage was absolutely lovely and the therapist was excellent, the spa facilities themselves look dated and poorly maintained. There were visible signs of water damage and problems with the ceilings in several areas, which is not something I would expect from a hotel marketed as a spa resort. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment was the restaurant. I had booked a table for four through the hotel specifically for my birthday dinner. We arrived dressed for a special occasion, sat down and placed our food order. When we later ordered drinks, we were asked for ID. I completely understand and respect age-verificationpolicies such as Challenge 25, and I have no objection to being asked for identification. However, the way the situation was handled felt unnecessarily abrupt and lacking in tact. We were a group of adults in our thirties, already seated for a birthday dinner, and after explaining that we were hotel guests and that this was my birthday celebration, there was still very little warmth or courtesy in the interaction. We were simply told that no alcohol would be served until IDs were produced, which meant members of our party having to leave the table and go back to retrieve them. Of course, the restaurant is entitled to request ID, but I would expect a hotel restaurant to handle this kind of situation with considerably more professionalism and hospitality. Had we not been staying at the hotel, this could easily have meant having to walk back to a car or elsewhere in the middle of dinner just to retrieve identification. A polite explanation and a friendlier approach would have made a huge difference.
Nice place for breakfast
Not as clean as I expected. No cooling except a small fan
The room was clean and comfortable. The patio balcony overlooking the canal was beautiful addition perfect to sit and have a drink. The spa facilities are great.
The menu choices at the restaurant was limited, not a great choice. One staff member was rude when I asked to move table, due to the seats being too low for my arthritic knee. She gave the impression it was a major problem, when there was barely anyone in there.
BEST
NOT GREAT
Big car park and nice comfortable rooms with big TV screen. Excellent evening meal in the restaurant and the Spa facilities are amazing. Spa is in separate building, but not too far and welcoming staff. Pool is very large and nice jacuzzi and sauna. Steam room was broken, but door to Spa left open ? On purpose because of this and so could use their steam room and thermal bath. One of the nicest I’ve been too and would stay again if lived closer. Free parking and nice buffet breakfast too (although not as nice as evening meal).
Dirty throw with stains and ? Mud was on our bed when we entered the room and was a bit off putting. Didn’t complain as rest of room fine, but told them in the morning and hopefully that has been put in bin now.
Room nice good location.
No fridge in room. Internet connection very poor.
Everything was clean.
Absolutely lovely. Went for our 20th wedding anniversary. When we entered the room there was a plate with Happy Anniversary on and some muffins and then when we went to the restaurant we had a bottle of prosecco gifted to us. Bed comfy as always, staff helpful and just a really lovely stay.
Nothing
Very convenient stop off - accommodation was comfortable and had everything needed…restaurant for evening meal was great - food delicious and lovely friendly staff.
Building is Looking a little neglected in places…roof needs some serious attention, heavy rain was leaking through in several places but staff dealt with it.
Amazing suit
A little tired in places, could do with a revamp
Nice tranquil location right next to the canal. The room was clean and the chambermaids were very nice to deal with.
It’s in desperate need of a full renovation. It’s looking tired, dated and well-used. The decking bridge leading towards the main reception area is literally rotting and there is rubbish strewn around the sides - not a good look. The restaurant is somewhat overpriced and the evening service standards were not great. The staff are friendly enough but seemed to lack effective leadership. They had a supervisor barking orders at them and it got them flustered to the point where they weren’t putting drinks orders through for our table. I saw what was going on and chose not to complain as it would just be the young waiter who would be blamed and that wouldn’t be fair. Meanwhile, they had a walk-in of 4 covers who were told to wait, needlessly. All whilst there was a table that needed clearing, cleaning and relaying right next to ours!! It took them over 30 mins to sort it! Very disorganised, but could be fixed.
Everything you need in one place.
A little dated
Nothing - not as advertised . Left after one hour rooms nothing like the picture. Hostel conditions in room not a spa hotel !
Most of the headboard leather flaking off above pillows View of sewerage man hole cover and carpark No WiFi signal unable to connect to 4/5g Only radio available on tv Bathroom door had soaked up water and was flaking off at bottom X Whole hotel was tired and in need of refurb (Lights falling off the walls in corridor) The spa separate from the hotel with people sitting outside on the grit bin drinking wine from the bottle
We always return her for a few days to unwind and relax. We absolutely love this resort
-
Bacon was horrible, not a lot of choice.
The bathroom was dirty, lots of hair on the floor when I wiped it up the floor was also dirty. I took a photo.
Das Frühstück war sehr gut. Es gab genügend Parkplätze direkt am Hotel.
Das Schwimmbad und der Wellnessbereich muß ganz dringend renoviert werden.
The staff were polite and friendly. The breakfast was good. The view of the canal from our room was pleasant.
The room and bathroom were ‘tired’. The tiles in the shower appeared dirty and there was hair on the floor. The back of the bathroom door was damaged and the paint was peeling off due to water damage. The toilet roll holder was empty when we arrived. The first thing you see when entering the hotel is the bin and laundry area (not pleasant).
Lovely hotel with great pool and spa
The view from our window was looking at the bins so no view really
Everything we needed
Nothing
Location, views. Staff very friendly
Some areas could do with maintenance, looking a little worn in places - spa, bedrooms
I found the hotel to be good value for money and all the staff were kind and helpful.
The hot beverages at breakfast, the machines were always busy. When you went for the cooked breakfast lids were left off the container or not put back properly- hence the content were not always as hot as they should be - that is the other guests not staff.
Well located for our needs.
Room was tired, cramped bathroom, no hooks anywhere, safe not working and not fixed during our stay. Balcony was in terrible condition. Restaurant service had issues.
The leisure and Spa area were superb
Air conditioning in room not working
Best night sleep lovely and clean would definitely go again staff lovely lady at reception was very nice and helpful 👍
Spa area. Mostly not working. Steam and sauna closed. Open to the public. Changing facilities really poor. Dinner menu very unexciting. Canal view not worth it. Room small.
Location
The shower base tiles are appalling. They are covered in mould and limescale and in need of a good clean. Bathrooms are small and bottom of door was very badly chipped. The bedroom carpet also had an area with tape on it.
Lovely helpful staff and nice to be able to use the spa. Good choice of food for breakfast.
Not enough teabags but was given more when requested. Continuous banging of a door for over an hour.
Our room was overbooked and therefore our accommodation was cancelled at check in. We drove 3 hours and received no prior notification from the hotel. We’d received a notification 2 weeks before our stay confirming our booking and asking whether we wished to book a table for dinner. Very poor service and extremely disappointing!
Breakfast was great with lots of choice.
We ordered an extra bed to be added to our room on the Saturday night as a friend couldn't stay for both nights. On arriving back at the hotel at 2am, the bed wasn't set up and no bedding was left. When we reported this to reception, they were very apologetic and sorted it straight away. Just not what you want to be doing after a long day and night at a wedding at 2 in the morning. The extra bed charge was removed from out bill.
The grounds to the hotel and spa were lovely, lots of little bridges and it was right by a canal. Great views out of our bedroom window. The room was clean and functional. The spa was clean and had plenty of saunas, steam rooms, pool and Turkish bath type pool. Showers in the spa were powerful, lockers handy no need for change. Towels provided.
On the first night we noticed a steam room was closed along with a smaller spa room. Some tiles had come away from the shower( making it look a mess ) in the spa area by the pool.. it is in need of some maintenance. Our bedroom was quite small considering it had a table two chairs and a huge dressing desk ...not necessarily needed.
Everything
Nothing great
Lovely location.
Nothing, the place was nothing like the photographs stay away!
The place is dated, run down and nothing like the photographs, to add to this we had people in the room next door smoking drugs and partying all night
Its location and the building.
The room had a door that was rubbing badly on the carpet. So, you had to push hard to open and close the door. The internet was useless.
Staff very friendly, very helpful, lovely breakfast, comfortable room
Exiting onto the A5
A lovely clean friendly staff
Nothing
The canal was lovely
The floor was filthy we had to thow our socks in the bin the bed was well worn and un comfy the toilet in the spa is to low i fell on them as I can't bend to far as having knee replacement
The site facilities were fantastic, the staff were all lovely, the breakfast was great, and the room views were really beautiful. The bed - while small - was comfortable, and a fan was supplied to counter the heat.
The rooms feel tired - wall staining in the bathroom, hallway lights are in varying degrees of repair, no air conditioning in our room, the doors slam shut (be careful!), and the bed was on the smaller side (double).
l'utilizzo della SPA
Lovely hotel, great rooms, Parking, full use of the spa facilities at no cost most spa hotels now charge extra to use the spa. The food at breakfast served buffet style and there is a great choice of locally sourced hot and continental food. Lovely evening meal menu and great food. Staff at the hotel are so friendly and helpful. The hotel is by the LLangollen canal which is easily accessed for quiet walks, towards Chirk there are a couple of lovely pubs to stop off at the chill viaduct is very impressive and it is around a 45 minute walk into Chirk where there is a lovely community cafe serving drinks and amazing food.
Nothing
Excellent location spar facility is amazing food was excellent,Can’t wait to go back
I loved our room. Great views, very comfy and plenty of light from the windows.
The attitude and service from some of the staff at the waterside resturant. Some costmetic side of the resort seemed abit dated, tatty and not working.
Fabulous gym and spa. Clean well presented room.
There was no mirror near a plug point to be able to blow dry your hair. The small mirror attached to the wall on the dressing table was hugely magnified and absolutely of no use. Room abit cramped.
Loved this hotel. Beautiful place. Room a little small and no fridge but otherwise clean and a nice place to stay. Spa facilities were amazing.
No fridge.
Friendly staff very helpful
room was ok and suitable although not as described
the stench of sewage from the open ditch which ran between the car park and hotel was foul and permeated into the room the food although acceptable was overpriced for what was quite an ordinary venue. particularly our whole weekend was ruined by the hotel cancelling half of our little groups rooms at very short notice and an unwillingness yo try to resolve the problem caused, one couple travelled for over 3 hrs only to be told we don't have a room for you even when showed booking .coms confirmation, they gave up and travelled back home - another 3 hr journey. another of our group was only informed that his room was cancelled by a text message less than 48 hrs before. once again no apology. if we had been made aware earlier the rest of us would have cancelled our bookings and gone else where this venue seemed to only want to cater for its wedding party either they or Booking.com need to seriously consider wether they have the commitment to customer service to run their business
restaurant pool
room dreary and cobwebs on julian balcony
Clean, warm and the staff on reception were amazing.
.
Lovely room & happy birthday cake in room so nice
rooms were adequate, nice location to canal
We visited Lion Quays Resort to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary, so we were really looking forward to a special, relaxing and memorable experience. Unfortunately, our stay fell well short of what we had hoped for. Our first impression was disappointing. As we walked across the bridge over the stream towards reception, we were met by a very unpleasant and overpowering smell, which certainly wasn't the welcome we had anticipated. We appreciate that it was an exceptionally hot day and that the heat may have intensified the smell from the stream, but it nevertheless made a poor first impression. We were particularly looking forward to enjoying the spa facilities, as this was one of the main reasons we chose the resort. Sadly, they fell well short of our expectations of a luxury spa. The changing rooms appeared to be in need of some TLC and, of the four saunas, three were closed due to maintenance issues. The lighting around the pool areas was also very poor, making the facilities feel dark and uninviting. At times, it gave the impression that the lighting may have been deliberately kept low to disguise the deteriorating condition of some areas. Whether or not this was the intention, the overall effect certainly did not create the bright, clean and luxurious atmosphere we had expected from a premium spa resort. We also noticed missing mosaic tiles, with others coming away from the walls in some areas. These issues contributed to an overall impression that parts of the spa looked tired and neglected rather than luxurious and well maintained. This was extremely disappointing, especially given how much we had been looking forward to using the spa as part of our anniversary celebration. With three of the four saunas unavailable and the general condition of some areas being below expectations, a significant part of what we had hoped would make our stay special was missing.
Staff, bar and food canal viewing and spa
Lack of bathroom hooks and towel rail in accessable
We had the Candia suite, which was really elegant and good value for money.
The glass door on the bathroom with the toilet right next to it! There was no element of privacy, Also. We couldn't fathom the fancy light switches so had a light on all night! We didn't realise how far it was from Llangollan, so taxis were a night mare to book and cost £30 each way into Llangollan.
Room was spotless, staff were lovely and helpful. Nice to be ble to use the spa too Lits of cooked breakfast items available
bathroom a bit worn, chipped sink, shower glass bit mouldy in corner. Spa was a bit shabby, steam room closed. Quite a few of the Dining room chairs worn and threadbare. Breakfast, lots of tinned fruit and frozen berries. There was melon however & a selection of meats and cereals. Lots of display baskets full of plastic fruit, bananas, apples.etc but not a fresh piece of fruit to be seen😆🙄
The room was lovely and the hotel grounds nice walk along the canal path.. Not too far for places to drive to.
I do think the grounds needs tidying up a bit as plants seemed messy and at the canal boat moaring that could be so much better if looked after and more tidy somewhere else to sit
Staff were very professional and friendly
The food was good but the menu is very limited. Very disappointed that the lift was not working - did not appreciate having to carry luggage down two flights of stairs especially as we are both in our 70’s
The customer services were fantastic especially Anna. The pool was amazing and sauna. However the steam room wasn't working, but overall it was a great pool and showers. The grounds are also beautiful.
Bed bases need changing and upgrading to new ones. Breakfast time there was no fresh bakery products.
Gym and pool need some TLC, signage on main road could be better, busy road so difficult to join
The perfect venue for the lovely wedding we attended. Our room overlooked the canal, and it was so nice to sit and enjoy a few pre-wedding drinks while watching the boats go by. The staff were amazing — so friendly and attentive, and you could see how hard they all worked to make everything run smoothly.
The room was mostly lovely, although a few areas were looking a little tired and there were a couple of things that let it down slightly. The bathroom in particular is definitely in need of re-tiling and I’d say this should be fairly high on the to-do list. If I was being picky, the carpet could also do with replacing, as there was quite a large area of silver tape covering a hole. Breakfast had a good selection and the coffee was lovely, although I did miss having baked beans with my brekkie! The lift was unfortunately out of order during our stay, but these things can’t always be helped. It wasn’t really a problem for us — apart from trying to get down the stairs with my dancing legs the following morning! 😂 It is just something to bear in mind for anyone who struggles with stairs. Overall, we had a lovely stay and with a little bit of updating in a few areas, it could be even better.
Nice location and a good comfortable bed
There was no Toilet brush, this makes for a very awkward situation when in a romantic weekend !!! A toilet brush is a must
The location next to the tow path Access to pool
Tired and worn decor; Small bedroom Staff inattentive No smart TV for streaming
The spa was amazing and the hotel staff were amazing too Especially a lady called Grace who went above and beyond to make sure I stay was comfortable
Some of the room descriptions and it could do with an update on the ground floor rooms the bathroom is quite small not very spacious as well as the bedroom we were given and the restaurants some of the food that we had wasn't great instead of home-made chips they were a bag of frozen chips And the pasta barely had any sauce in it
The pool
Their was only one toilet roll no back up incase it was needed, the shower flooded the room, the breakfast was a poor choice, the lift was broken. Just poor quality for what we paid for two nights stay and the steam room was out of order the bathrooms are tinny especially if in the larger side you have to squeeze in round the toilet to close the bathroom door to get to the shower or toilet mental . And their was silver fish in the bathroom just not a great standard. A premier in Would have been better.
Nothing
Everything
Near to places we wanted to visit, canal nearby with ducks, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Good range of drinks and outdoor area picturesque.
Lift broken, was on top floor so was tiring for us. Plug in bathroom broken so had to shower instead of bath, cooked breakfast disappointing, undercooked and sat in crock pots in own grease and juice, thankfully fruit selection and yogurt made up for it. Stream by door stagnant and stunk all through reception hall. Overpriced for what it is, steam room and parts of spa not working and closed off, won’t go again.
Peaceful,clean great staff
A little expensive in restaurant and no gluten free for vegetarian
Location and spa lovely
Beds, not the most comfortable, with springs gone, and sticking out the side, soon to come through the material on the side of the bed
Room was clean, staff very friendly. Breakfast was very good
Lift was broken and we were on second floor so was uncomfortable with having to go up and down stairs as I have mobility issues. Air conditioning would have been nice as there was a lot of continuous road noise when door was open
This was an overnight stay before a stressful hospital appointment, so relaxing was the priority. We enjoyed most of the spa time. The beds were very comfortable. Liked being able to open the balcony doors for some fresh air. The continental breakfast was very good with lots of choice. Reception staff on arrival was lovely and very helpful.
Some areas of the spa were quite smelly (drain smell) and some areas just seemed 'tired'. The cooked breakfast wasn't very nice...it was quite greasy, not very hot, the hash browns were not crispy at all. The lift broke down in the evening and was still broken in the morning. We were on the second floor and I struggled because of my spinal issues, as did other, older guests. The hotel in general looked 'tired' and unloved, sadly. There were still glasses etc on the outside table from the night before. Dead plants/weeds everywhere....regardless of the lack of rain. It just looked uncared for in general which is not so much a complaint as a sad observation.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
5.5/10Mixed reports: several guests praised clean, modern rooms and leisure areas, but there are multiple serious cleanliness complaints (stains, mould, filthy bathroom edges, glasses left outside, smelly spa drain and eggy stream).
Service
9/10Consistently positive staff feedback: reception and multiple team members described as friendly, helpful and professional; guests repeatedly noted good service and helpfulness.
Location
8/10Generally favourable: handy location with pleasant canal/field views for some rooms; some road noise reported when balcony/doors are open.
Room Quality
7/10Mixed room quality: some rooms described as clean, modern and comfortable (nice views, comfy beds), while others reported small bathrooms, worn/tired decor and problematic beds with exposed springs.
Amenities
8.5/10Leisure facilities are a strong point: spa, pool, jacuzzi and sauna receive high praise; however some spa areas and changing rooms were described as tired or with flaking paint and the lift failures impacted access.
Value for Money
7.5/10Perceived as reasonable value by some guests (price and included breakfast noted), but issues with food quality and tired hotel areas temper the value impression for others.
Food and Beverage
6.5/10Mixed to negative: continental breakfast had good choice for some, but cooked breakfast and several evening meals were criticised as greasy, lukewarm or poor quality; limited vegetarian options and occasional items out of stock.
Overall Experience
8/10Overall mixed but leaning positive: many guests enjoyed the spa, pool, friendly staff and would recommend, yet several stays were spoiled by food issues, lift problems, cleanliness concerns or booking errors.
