The breakfast spread was so good! It had so many different options and each so tasty! The owner was lovely and gave some great recommendations which made the stay that much more enjoyable.

Fantastiic location for a jaunt to Cardrona, quiet and a very homely ambiance with spectacular views of snow covered mountains. Even the cat made you feel at home hogging the fire. Well prepared and delicious breakfasts. Will definitely come here again.

The wet weather when I was there but you can't change mother nature.

Blyth and Ann are great hosts and the furnishings in the homestead was absolutely outstanding, lovely place with warm atmosphere. Also breakfast served in the morning was perfect.

We couldn’t stay longer 😊

Homestead is stunning, the private property offered a peaceful and relaxing stay. The property is located very close to the base of the drive to Cardrona alpine resort so it was convenient as it reduced the travel time if we had stayed at Wanaka. The room was very cozy, comfortable and clean and the host Ann and Blyth were so accomodating. We stayed in the room with the jacuzzi bathroom, which was spacious and love the heated tiles! The bathroom although not attached to the room was still exclusive for our use. There was continental breakfast available during our stay. There’s also a pool and heated hot tub which we didn’t get to use.

The drying room is on the small side and can run out of space if you come back late from the ski fields.

Quiet location only a few minutes from Cardrona township at the bottom of the Cardrona mountain and ski resort. The stone homestead oozes character and the drone into the property looked straight out of Jurassic Park. We visited in winter so enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace in the large lounge area. Tea, coffee and biscuits available round the clock. There was also a small fridge for guest to place some items as well as for storing milk for coffee etc. Guest rooms were good size and well appointed each with their own bathroom. A drying room was also available for those who were skiing. Blyth and Ann were great hosts - attentive to needs but also providing privacy. The house is big enough for hosts and guests to feel like they have their own space. Blyth previous experience as a chef and in the hospitality industry shows through with decore of the property and attentiveness to the needs of guests. We would love to come back in summer and enjoy different aspects of Waiorau Cottage and the surrounding area.

The hosts were extremely nice and welcoming and made our stay unforgetable! The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable! To top it all, the breakfast was better than all the hotels we have been staying at - we will miss those perfect poached eggs! The location was just right and very close to Cardrona ski. The house was really nice and cozy and we wish we could come back during the summer to enjoy the outside area and the swimming pool! We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to truly feel at home!

Ann and Plyths Homestead was absolutely beautiful and a great escape from the hustle and bustle. They were both very warm and welcoming and nothing was too much hassle. Breakfast in the morning was an absolute treat and the room/bathroom we had was a great size with a super comfy bed. Would absolutely not hesitate to stay here again or recommend to any friends and family travelling through the area. Thanks again for having us. 🌸

That we didn't stay longer!

Homely feel and welcoming host, and only 2.2 kms to the pub! A wood fire was burning when we arrived returned from pub and woke in the morning. The lounge was welcoming. Comfortable bed, scrumptious breakfast, amazing location with beautiful views over the mountains. Thank you Blythe for making the first day of our holiday so memorable!

That we couldn't stay longer

We loved everything! From the moment we arrived , driving up the tree lined driveway, we were treated like long lost friends by Blyth as he came to greet us. The room we had was beautiful. Our bed was so comfotable. Breakfast was such a treat and we looked forward to it each day. Such a treat to one’s senses! The guest lounge was heated with a log fire that Blyth ensured was constantly kept burning. The lounge was very welcoming and cozy and looked out onto beautiful gardens with a bubbling stream. You can spot some sheep next door too. Blyth is a wonderful host and a great conversationalist. A life well lived and very interesting. We loved coming “home” each night to the crackling fire, coffee and biscuits and enjoy the homestead. Looking into the starry nights! We can honestly say that we have never stayed in a place that we wished we could stay longer and were sad to leave. Excellent value!

This is an exceptional property. A real home from home. Beautiful bedroom and the lounge for the use of residents was superb. Log burner was on so it was really cosy. We only stayed one night then had three in a top quality hotel In Queenstown. On reflection we should have split it, two and two and did the distillery and dinner at the Cardrona hotel. Blyth is such a nice guy and very sociable. He does the best poached eggs in NZ! I have since returned to Scotland but my daughter stays in Wellington. She and her soon husband to be, a Kiwi, intend staying at the Homestead later this year.

Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful quiet retreat. The hosts were lovely, the breakfast was exceptional and the bed was super comfy. Rooms well lit, clean and private. Thank you!

Nice quiet place with nice people

The owner takes good care of every corner of the house. It is quiet, comfortable, with good air, and you can see the snowy mountains outside the house. The key is the bed in the room, as if sleeping in the clouds.

Beautiful setting. Very welcoming.

Lovely location in the Cadrona Valley. We were in the small cottage adjacent to the main house. The cottage is self contained and has everything you need in the kitchen.

The cottage is relatively small and the kitchen area quite cramped. The double bed has access only from one side.

Very nice and quiet place, a few hundred meters from the main road - room very comfortable - good advise from our guest about the place where to eat the dinner : the Cardrona hotel is certainly a place to visit !

Nothing - it was perfect !

What a great experience! We were here just for a night - as it was on the way from Lake Tekapo to Te Anau. But this is the kind of place where you could easily stay longer and make it your base to explore a wide area. Mainly because of staying at hotels, it is always fun to be at "home"! Blyth was an amazing host for us. From the moment we walked in, when he offered to make us tea, to the time we checked out the next morning, we just felt taken care of. We had booked dinner ahead of time - which turned out to be a great thing as Blyth is a great cook! it was just the two of us for dinner, and we have a lot of allergens - but no problem, he made sure we had a great meal. The soup was to die for (more than a month later, we still talk about it!). The poached egg from breakfast was great too. Like any B&B, part of the fun is to run into other people staying at the property. We were fortunate enough to have breakfast with a couple from Netherlands - we talked for over an hour - and truly enjoyed their company!

Very happy! The house is run by a couple, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, enjoying a retirement-like life in a warm home. At night, you can see the starry sky and the Milky Way very clearly! In the morning during breakfast, everyone sits together sharing interesting stories from New Zealand, like a harmonious family! Everything is perfect! Thank you!

Everything!!!!!! The Chef Blyth was a FANTASTIC cook and Ann was adorable .Could had stayed longer , just to have more meals. INCREDIBLE experience and the grounds beautiful.

That we only stayed One night

We had the cabin on our own and the hot tub was available anytime (on other stays there were restrictions like not after 18.00 hour and that is when you come home at the end of the day). Even our laundry was washed! (Very important as we were more than 30 days on the road).

Beautiful tranquil setting and gorgeous property. Ann and Blyth were very gracious hosts in what is really a 5-star guesthouse rather than a hotel, in the best sense of being made very welcome. Delicious breakfast and good to have pool and hot tub.

We had a lovely stay with Ann and Blyth. Their catering is exceptional and Blyth’s home cooked dinner was absolutely delicious. Ann and Blyth were both very friendly and hospitable. 4 out of 5 as we could hear other guests when in our room. The bed was comfy and bathroom really nice. As we had used the hot tub and pool we had wet swimming gear and there was nowhere to dry it, however Ann on request dried our clothes in her drying room. We would stay again 😊

The room opened out onto a beautiful lawn and garden. A very peaceful setting.

The shower didn’t drain properly and the hot water was jumping all over the place.

This is a spectacular B&B. The owner, Blythe, is wonderful (his partner Anne was away). He is knowledgeable, welcoming, and professional. The food was fantastic. The rooms are beautiful, all with high ceilings. Beautiful grounds located in an unassuming hideaway. Perfect place.

It’s not that we didn’t like this about it, but it’s important to know that it’s really in Cardrona, not in the town of Wanaka which is an easy 20 minute drive away.

This was our favourite place we stayed at on our trip. The house is absolutely exquisite, we were welcomed warmly by our hosts, and enjoyed the hot tub and walking around the beautiful garden. We saw many native birds and had such a comfortable stay. Robes were included and we were well catered for at breakfast the next day. We highly recommend this homestead!

This is an elegant, comfortable place in a lovely location. Blyth and Ann were gracious and helpful. Don’t miss the wonderful dinner offered! The second night we ate at the Cardrona Hotel, which was quite good.

Lovely quite surroundings. Great location with a small drive to Wanaka or Queenstown. Friendly host Ann welcomed us when we arrived and the continental breakfast supplies were a pleasant surprise.

The whole experience was just amazing. Very comfortable and luxurious place to stay with continental breakfast. Just 5 min drive to the one of the oldest and nicest hotel in NZ. Ann was so kind and helpful. I wish we could have stayed longer.Highly recommended.

Our host Blyth was exceptional, very welcoming and getting a fire ready for us for when we came back from dinner after we mentioned that we may want to use it at some point in the evening. Beautiful grounds and facilities nicely kept up and clean with access to living and dining areas. Most delightful and personable hosts. There were cookies, tea and fruits on arrival, and chocolate and water in our bedroom. Bountiful and delicious breakfast. Would have loved to stay longer and have a dinner on premise.

The bedroom, lounge area, outdoors and all facilities were first class.

Comfy 2 bed room. Large bathroom (across hallway but it’s private). Lovely large living room for guests. Sweet dog and cat to visit with. Fabulous breakfast. Dinner cooked by Blyth was amazing and reasonable. Also good food at Cardona hotel. We had hoped to do more walking but heavy rains led to raging streams that blocked our attempt to do the hill walk near the house. We did do a pleasant walk along the edge of lake Wanaka.

Not the fault of our hosts but the next stage of our journey was to cross Haast pass to west coast.The heavy rains meant they closed the pass and we were stopped just as we started to drive over it. Landslides and flooding. Police told us it would be closed for at least 2 days and other passes to west coast also closed so we had to pivot, cancel west coast plans, and retrace our steps back along east coast to Oamaru and Christchurch :(

Absolutely delightful stay. The property with mature trees and blossoms and view of the snow mountains were just wonderful. The house was warm and snug, with roaring fire and bottle of wine. Sumptuous breakfast served professionally by host who has been a chef.

There are really no complaints at all.

Great location in the Cardrona Valley, beautiful views in a lovely peaceful setting. We had a lovely relaxing time, very friendly atmosphere with hosts. A+

Stunning location surround by mountains literally at the bottom of the Cardrona ski field access road. Fantastic, lovely and genuine hosts. The breakfast included was delicious. I cannot fault any part of our stay.

This was a very cozy and lovely boutique accomodation, perfect if you are skiing in Cardrona Alpine Resort as it is only 20 minutes away. Blyth and Ann were such great hosts and having Coco and Tui around added such a nice warm touch to the experience as well. The room (Kahurangi) were perfect for us and was super toasty with the heated blankets. Breakfast was great with pretty much everything you need to get your day started (fresh coffee, poached eggs, fresh fruits, avocados, bread, juices, cured meats, etc). I would highly recommend staying here to bring much needed peace and tranquility to your busy lives.

Very friendly and helpful hosts. Nice breakfast served fresh every morning. Bed was very comfortable which was perfect after a day on the slopes. Perfectly located a 2 min drive from the drive up to Cardrona. Also very close to the general store and Cardrona Hotel.

I can’t say enough great things about this B&B and the incredibly gracious hosts, Ann and Blythe. They’ve thought of everything, from a delicious and varied breakfast to clean, well appointed rooms and a spacious living area to relax in after a hard days ski or hike. Truly one of the best homesteads I’ve ever visited. And you can’t beat the location right at the foot of Cardrona.

What a great experience in our own country stunning accommodation with great hosts we will be BACK. Lounge was amazingly warm. Shower was lovely and hot with a treat to have unfloor heating. Bed - best sleep on this trip. Breakfast was absolutely a treat was totally unexpected and set us up for the day. A MUST stay.

The property was peaceful and well kept. Blyth and Anne were lovely hosts, attention to detail in every aspect. Waiorau homestead is unique property beautifully styled and comfortable. The hot tub was a bonus for looking at the stars. Breakfast is outstanding. We couldn't fault it and hope to return again.

The hosts were absolutely lovely, it felt like staying with family. They cooked us decadent breakfasts every morning at whatever time we chose, they had excellent recommendations, and they made sure all our needs were met. It was also the perfect location to get to Cardrona ski fields!

Location was perfect for our family holiday! We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed snowboarding every day! Very closed to the entrance to Cardrona slopes for easy access. Close to Wanaka and all of the iconic Cardrona spots (aka the pub!!). Blythe was an amazing host, cooked up a great breaky each morning and was happy to share stories of the area and recommendations along the way!

The other guests on our final night were loud and rowdy in the common areas past midnight...
