Bed by the window in room 6 needs replacing, it has a 45 degree slope on the mattress- just awful. Could do with a mirror even just inside wardrobe door.

Reviewed Sep 8, 2026Comfortable, quiet, clean rooms. Readily available dining. Friendly staff. The bakery has the best pies and cheese scones. While further away from towns (which is what we wanted) it isn't too far from wanaka and very convienient to head up to Cardrona ski park.

The location, the ambience, the professional friendliness of ALL the staff, its yummy offerings in the dining room from excellent coffee at breakfast to lamb shoulder (specially cooked without onions for us) is second to NONE.

Reviewed Aug 20, 2026Comfortable room with all that we'd expected including a big fridge. Obviously the location was superb for skiing and acres ski but too noisy. Excellent food and drinks at the restaurant. Staff first class.
We were given a room near the road for morning traffic noise and next to the beer garden for noise from late afternoon until 10pm. Even a rainy day the music blasted out. If you came for acres ski then ideal Vos it just outside you room including tables also just outside the room door where people sat chatting over their meal and drinks.

We were in a room on the opposite side of the hotel parking lot and had to trek our bags across mud and uneven stones, through groups of people gathered for dinner and drinks at the hotel- it was a bit embarrassing- but we were also understanding that it's a historic setting and there's only so much that can be done about the layout/floors.

Reviewed May 27, 2026THIS IS AN ICONIC PLACE AND VERY POPULAR. I LOVED THAT WE COULD BOOK ACCOMMODATION HERE. THE BEER GARDEN WITH HUGE OPEN FIRE WAS FABULOUS ON A COLD NIGHT. THE OPEN FIRE AND LOUGES INSIDE WERE GREAT TO MOVE TO ONCE THE SUN WENT DOWN. THE MEAL WAS GOOD AND THE ROOMS CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE. FREINDLY AND HELPFUL STAFF.

The room was super tiny, which was fine, as we were only stopping through for 1 night, however the bathroom needs a full renovation, and the TV must have been at least 40 years old - rather impressed that it still actually worked LOL. Recommend to choose one of the larger rooms, which we have stayed in before previously, that are lovely. Still a fab little spot with lots of history, and will stay again.

T.V and digital channels were unclear/ static with glitchy WIFI - I guess stuck in the middle of the mountains would do this - not a complaint as it is Iconic, and to say I've stayed there is more important - but for the next traveller wanting good WIFI, be prepared.
