Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Friendly staff, surprisingly quiet room considering proximity to pub, cosy, clean modern shower. Great location for a city break. Nice pub.
Bit more attention to dusting and wiping down room fixtures wouldn't hurt. Paintwork a bit tatty in places but it's end of season so maybe that gets done over winter?
Breakfast was fine Unfortunately there wasn’t a chef in the evening so I went out to eat
Dans la chambre du haut, des rideaux occultants pourraient améliorer le confort pour dormir. Le personnel était disponible et accueillant. Agréable court séjour.
Staff was great, perfect location
The property is severely outdated and poorly maintained. Our room was dirty, and the windows were covered in so much grime that you couldn't see outside. The breakfast was minimal, poor quality, and identical every single day. The hotel needs deep cleaning and renovation .
Stayed at the George and Dragon for one night on a cycling weekend. Room was clean, comfortable and ideally situated. Good decent shower. Nice seated area outside although didn’t use it. Great welcoming staff both on arrival and at breakfast. Breakfast was simple but didn’t need anything more Will use again and recommend to others
Breakfast was a little disappointing as I am gluten and dairy free
Breakfast alternative options for dairy and gluten free
The property is in an excellent location . The staff are very nice and welcoming.
Our room could have had a bit of a spruce but was definitely good for the price.
Location and staff
The loo seat was loose
Cute pub with rooms out the back, staff were friendly, room had everything you needed and was clean and comfortable. Great location!
Probably wouldn’t stay for a long period of time as there were no facilities and breakfast was pretty poor, but I don’t think this kind of place is meant for long stays. Bit of mold in the shower that could with some attention.
Friendly staff, good location
Loo seat fell off as did the loo roll holder
Ideally located close to the bus depot and train station. Room was spotless. En suite shower was reliable and easy to use. Staff were very courteous and friendly. Food was delicious - wholly recommend the 'George' burger.
All good !
Location was great for city centre/theatre. Staff were very welcoming.
Room greatly in need of refurbishment and a little dirty - see photos. Described as 'beautifully converted stable block' is not quite what we found - perhaps some years ago, now in need of a makeover. No headboard. Continental breakfast very limited. There was actually a four pint milk carton on the counter. I didn't expect 'posh', but this was something unusual. Everything on offer was fine, just minimal choice.
The location
Uncomfortable bed and pillows, they need changing
Location
Room dated and had a leak from the upstairs bathroom
Great location
Overpriced, dirty, most uncomfortable bed. Would not recommend.
Grubbiness.
Friendly staff, brilliant location
Great location, good size room.
No cooked breakfast. Had to go and find a cafe.
Probably the nearest hotel to the theatre which is why we stayed here and it’s good value
Our room was a bit tired
Great location , very friendly staff
I stayed here a few years ago and loved it.. but it’s gone downhill… the rooms are tired and badly need redecorating, the breakfast is very poor… better not to offer it.
Perfect location
A lot of noise early in morning
There are many good things about this accommodation . The staff were excellent and friendly. The evening meal was great. The rooms were clean and we found the beds comfortable. It is in a fabulous location for the Chichester Festival Theatre.
With so much going for it, it is a real shame that so much of the accommodation could do with TLC and in particular the paintwork needs attention, not least in the staircase entrance to the rooms,
It’s a Pub. I like pubs
Really hot on the room and the Fan provided didn’t seem to move any air at all
Location
Beds lumpy squeaky & uncomfortable Shower dirty tiles Needs updating very dated looks nice outside dingy inside
Proximity to theatre
Location
Only good things about the property was the location and some of the staff were friendly.
Room was ridiculously basic for £97, walls were scraped, beds were flimsy and wobbly and one tiny window in the room, with a cheap fan that’s just blowing hot air around, upon arrival at the property, was given a key and went to check the room was locked before we left, put the key and turned the key not even a quarter turn and it snapped, explained to staff and a short blonde woman behind the bar was rude and abrupt and kept shouting “that’ll be £20!” which is ridiculous as I hadn’t lost it or being too physical with the key, upon explaining the situation she threw her arms in the air and went behind the bar muttering under her breath. Charged £15 to my card without having a proper discussion about it, spare key was absolutely fine and had no issues with it so the key they gave out was obviously worn, staff even said it happens all the time so not to worry. Not worth the prices they charge at all, wouldn’t recommend.
Fine for one night stay. Welcoming
Location Characterful Nice outside space Refreshment tray well stocked
Room decor needed refreshing Grouting in shower needs to be renewed Torn net curtain
Great location in town and staff were nice.
It’s really out of date and needs modernising in every way. It’s expensive for the quality of product on offer.
Friendly & helpful staff. Located close to town attractions, e.g. theatre, High St, Art Gallery, cathedral. Confortable bed, crisp , clean linen & towels.
Room, whilst clean and comfortable, was very basic & dated now. A fresh coat of paint and new soft furnishings would make a big difference. We stayed in the same room about 10 years ago..it had not changed!
Entered the property via a lovely local pub. Friendly welcome. Good practical rooms.
Breakfast was very poor, there was very little choice. Service was very poor and when asked for another coffee was told he was quite busy. My son popped out and bought a coffee and pastry. We were sitting outside at the back and this same server then told us that we can't eat bought in food. That was a joke as there was barely anything being offered and he made it clear that he was even too busy to make us coffee. This was the morning after a family wedding and very embarrassing. I was not going to leave a review but Booking.com keeps asking me to leave one.
The bed was comfortable and the room had everything I needed and more. The location was excellent for both the theatres
The walls and floor are paper thin, you can hear everything in the next room and the floor below. The first night I had a really good sleep, I got back from the theatre at 10.45pm so it was quiet, that is apart from other people coming back from places and making noise in their own room. The second was terrible, there was someone that was snoring loudly and also had their television on loudly on night. The room is very noisy due to people sitting outside in the garden drinking, the room isn't useable until at least 10.45pm after the pub has shut and the people have left the garden.
The shower was quite powerful and plenty of hot water The bedding was clean Staff were pleasant Great location
The rooms were in much need of some renovation. Very old worn out furniture. The bed was old and uncomfortable. The room was dirty, the grout in the shower was moldy. The cleaners cupboard was in our room, so the lady wanted access to the room to get things out. Having said that she was happy to wait until we left for a wedding. We had a drink in the pub on arrival and the glasses were stained and looked dirty. Breakfast was continental, pastries were ok but not enough and not replenished, only brown bread for toast. There was a big crack in the teapot and there were dirty plates. Our room was poor and apparently it was a superior room. My daughter had a standard room which was very poor. There is so much potential, but in serious need of an upgrade.
Good location and nice room
It’s by the outdoors bit of the pub so not for those who want an early night
Good location
A few issues with shower and toilet
Ideal location for the Festival Theatre. Free overnight street parking. Pleasant ground floor room at the side of the pub garden; quiet at night. At breakfast the coffee was good.
The ceiling of the shower was off putting. The continental breakfast was adequate,
Very well situated for the theatre
Good location, friendly staff and lovely clean room with en suite. Continental breakfast was great.
Nothing we didn’t like.
There were areas of the room that had deep ingrained dirt that had clearly been there for years. The decor was grubby and paint yellowed and carpet rather creepy and not at all fresh. It would take very little to deep clean and refresh the decor. excellent location and friendly staff. the bedding was clean
Friendly staff Booked taxi for me, carried bag etc Room comfortable
Room very hot no fan meant I couldn’t sleep Although beer garden shut at 10 30 there were a few people talking until 1 30. Food I wanted sold out so I had to have something else
Bedrooms small but nice and clean, although looking a bit tired and in need of a refurb. Breakfast very disappointing. Continental only included but pastries very dry, sliced bread for toast, no marmalade, insipid salumi and cheese that looked as though it had come from a supermarket. A pity because the lively town is well served for bakery and deli products. A cooked breakfast can be purchased as an add-on and looked good on the menu but can't be ordered until 10.00 a.m.. The building has all the attributes to be a really nice small town inn, but falls well short of it's maximum potential. However the staff are exceptional, in particular the young guy who checked us in and out.
Perfectly placed for the Festival Theatre
Convenient and very clean - staff were lovely
It was a pub with accommodation and good value
Location was good - that's about it. Plenty of outdoor space + pool tables / darts. Reasonable selection of beers and also screens for watching sport. Bathroom in the room was in good condition and the saving grace for the room.
Room was pretty basic. TV didn't work and the fan (which was well needed) was just about serviceable enough. Someone must have lost their key so decided to bang on the door next to mine at around 230 in the morning. Walls are very thin so heard everything. I also got double charged after giving my card details and had to call the next day to get a refund for the 2nd charge.
The pub was in an ideal location, just a short walk to the centre of Chichester and where we needed to be.There is plenty of city parking in the car parks just a short walk away. The room was at the back of the pub and on the ground floor, proberbly a converted stable block and was fronted by the pubs garden area. The room it self was a good size and comfortable.
The room was fine but tired. Could do with a little make over and it would lift it. Breakfast was a basic continental and could be better.A little more choice of meats and cheeses and fruit would be good and more variation on the bread available, rolls, French stick etc, rather than just sliced bread.
Room dirty and tired. Television not operational. Fan damaged and unusable. Room was not serviced. A rave booked for Saturday 4th & not advised. God awful music and ridiculously loud with speakers pointing directly towards the rooms. Advised that doors would be closed at 9pm and music not audible. Music was not turned down and still very audible until 11.30pm which was unacceptable.
One of us is seriously disabled. The room on the ground floor was easily accessible. Staff were wonderful- couldn’t be more helpful
Its location and the staff
Located in the town centre, so walking distance to everything we wanted. Nice little rooms that had historic charm about them. Clean. Comfy beds.
The hairdryer in my room set on fire as soon as I switched it on to use it! Luckily, I was able to unplug it and leave the building with it, and the flame died. However, this left our room smelling awful. I gave the hairdryer to a member of staff and told them what happened. He just said oh sorry about that and took it from me. I'm very lucky I didn't burn myself or my hair! The hairdryer had obviously not been checked before our arrival.
Staff were great and friendly ,location great. Room was clean. Food was very good.
Room was a bit tired , flacking ceiling in shower. Iron but no board. This was during the heat wave hotel could not provide any air cooling I.e fans. Room had no AC, though instructions how to use. Room was very hot. Continental breakfast but no plant milk for so I could not have cereal or tea. Bar was too hot to have dinner in .
The location of the property was ideal as we were cycling. Great facilities and room was very comfortable.
With cycling there was no safe secure place to leave the bikes. Ideal with the size of the place for a place to be secured.
The location to the Cathedral
The pictures gave a completely false impression on the standard of the rooms
Perfect location, so central. Nothing flash, but everything you need, clean, tidy, comfortable bed, friendly staff. I enjoyed my short stay here.
Might need to consider aircon as the summers get hotter. But i have no complaints per se.
Die Lage ist gut. Bahnhof und Ortszentrum sind fußläufig zu erreichen.
Das Zimmer war sehr schmutzig. Das Bad war feucht und stickig.
Good location - rooms cleaned daily
There was a persistent drip in the bathroom - the property were obviously aware of this as they'd placed a towel underneath it to deaden the noise. However, nothing was mentioned when i checked in and the 'fix' didn't work - it was still an annoying, metronomic, splat. I'd stayed 2 years before and there was a significant increase in price - which is fine. What rankled however was the above drip and the fact they had downgraded the breakfast from a cooked option to basic continental.
Reasonable price
Noise from the pub courtyard was very loud till late in evening
Great location, lovely staff, very relaxing
Location
Door needed looking at and toilet cistern running water non stop. Rooms need a clean and paint
Nice staff, good food.
Poor TV reception
Its location, and helpful staff, and good food.
The entrance lobby to the room was like a building site and the room not much better. Comfy bed and ok bathroom.
Nettes Personal, zentrale Lage, Parkplatz in der Nähe
Schlechtes Wlan; im Sommer relativ heiß im Zimmer
Great location, EXCELLENT staff, and very clean rooms
The beds were somewhat wobbly, meaning every time I shifted, it seemed like the whole bed moved with me. It made for a rough night.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and nice. The place is conveniently located since it's in the main city center which is superb! Would recommend staying here
Good location for exploring Chichester and big car park with underpass nearby. Pub closed on-time at 12 but was very noisy until then.
The room (#2) was awful, it didn’t feature in any of the advertising pictures. The room needed decorated and refurbished to match what was advertised. The mattress was solid and very uncomfortable, the shower leaked in the bathroom. The TV didn’t have BBC or ITV and the hairdryer smoked when you turned it on! Breakfast had very limited options (no English Breakfast Tea) and once the food was gone it wasn’t replaced.
Great location and value for money.
Nothing
A quirky place to stay with friendly helpful staff and tasty fooz
Can't think of anything!
Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent location in central Chichester. Quiet at bedtime.
Great little pub, nice friendly and busy atmosphere. Lots of choice on the pumps. Good location, easy parking. Easy 1 night stay to meet up with a friend- perfect place . Will return with hubby next time.
The ONLY thing that let it down for me as single female traveller was a Dodgy lock on the room door and lack of ability to lock it from inside with a chain or bolt of some sort.
The room was extremely hot, asked for a fan but they hadn’t got any. The bathroom towel rail was on and couldn’t be turned off. No working plug in the basin. we got very little sleep, never been so hot. We didn’t get breakfast. It looked very poor the excuse was the bank holiday.
Felt the rooms were nothing to do with the bar staff. No hotel staff
Lovely friendly helpful staff. The room is a good size and clean and comfortable. It was very hot and they provided fans. Great location a few minutes from the centre!
It’s expensive for what it is—over £100 a night for a place that is what the majority of people are just going to use as a base. Not sure it’s worth the money but still cheapest we could find in the centre.
The breakfast was awful, a fruit salad that wasn't fresh, just slides of white bread, charcuterie for breakfast, no juice. Awful waste of money. The location was nice.
Better breakfast, because that was not a continental breakfast. Kettle in the room had a little bit of water, and for how long? The saucers and the cups weren't clean
Staff were helpful.
No hot water from the shower. Had to use the sink (cold water). Staff was informed but advised that it would be ok.
Really lovely place, very conveniently located Chichester. Nice rooms and friendly staff - would stay again!
The bedroom was a very good size, it could definitely do with a paint and new carpet, just looked abit tired. The breakfast when we went down for breakfast, there wasn't much left, the staff where ok but when we left we couldn't find anyone to hand our keys too. The pub downstairs was very nice so if the rooms where on that standard would be great.
We have been coming here for years and have good memories of a variety of breakfast options, including cooked breakfasts, included. The basic continental breakfast doesn’t match it but is ok.
Rooms cost a lot more than they used to and the breakfast is not nearly as good as in the past. The decor and bathroom could do with refreshing.
Staff were helpful, friendly and polite. Lovely outdoor facilities.. rooms were clean and comfortable. Food excellent 👌
Nothing to dislike!
Staff were really helpful and friendly. It was well located with a car park in walking distance. Breakfast okay ( continental) and again staff were nice
The accommodation is basic. The blanket on our bed was torn and stained. The bedsheets were clean and bed comfortable. Shower was tiny, slippery and water only just hot enough plus nowhere to put any toiletries in the bathroom. Towels were okay.
We did not stay and were waiting on the refund as they had no hot water
Nil
Stayed before but better.
First time staying at the George and Dragon and can't recommend it enough. Owner and staff were great and served by far the best three patty smash burger I've ever had. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing to dislike
Pretty well everything.
The mattress could do with a topper.
The room was clean and shower good, and even though by a pub as it closes at 11pm its quiet.
The breakfast was terrible, old fruit, cheap bread, they really should not offer breakfast and make the rooms cheaper or do a better job, no natural yoghurt or fresh fruit, cheap cereals.
Staff was friendly and provided all supports. Due to my strange schedule, I needed to get the keys earlier and leave my luggage before and after my stay. They kindly agreed to do all these additional services. Really appreciate it!
It's still a little bit too expensive
Lovely staff good food
We were informed that the boiler was broken. A refund of some sort would be nice. Dinner on the house or?????
Location
The worst beds we have ever stayed in as the springs Were poking through and couldn’t get any sleep
Very friendly helpful staff
Needs some tender loving care, little things are looking unloved
Value for money and clean
Nothing, all good
The location was good, very central, walkable from the railway station and near to the town centre and the places we wanted to go. All the staff were friendly and accommodating.
It was a little care worn in places, particularly in the twin room no.6. The door was tricky to open, all the paintwork all needed a refresh.
Central Location in Chichester. Ground floor room as requested.
1. Entrance + Exit door to stairway was just outside my room. Inconsiderate visitors let it bang LOUDLY most of the night. 2. Sockets not well placed for mobile charger, hairdryer, kettle etc. fortunately I had with me a multi socket fitment with long lead. 3. B/r Carpet was a bit manky & torn in places. 4. TV was on in breakfast room when I went through & very LOUD. 5. It was a beautiful morning & would have been lovely to have breakfast outside (in beer garden), where it was airy & QUIET. 6. Above not difficult for hosts as it was ‘continental breakfast’.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. The bed and pillows were SO comfy. The room was nice and clean and had every we needed.
Nothing - it was quaint and comfy.
Location, very close to Chichesyer Theatre where we were booked to see the BFG
Rooms tired with scuffed paintwork. Some signs of damp and poor quality mattresses where you could feel every spring.
Small hard bed not big enough for teo
Good location - easy to access room.
A friendly welcome, lovely room and great position in the city for me!
Location and brekfast
