Good breakfast
Room cramped and needs updating
Room is very comfortable. Very good English breakfast and the Coffe is amazingly good.
The reception staff were welcoming and helpful
Not being able to park, the state of the rooms, the poor quality of furniture
good welcome limited free parking but was not an issue. Quirky feel, excellent sized room and bathroom with decent shower over. Two fans. well lit. very comfortable with wardrobe and table and TV well stocked tea, coffee and hot chocolate with two bottles of water provided key to let yourself in from the street Central high street location good shops and cafes pubs etc., about 15 mins walk from Chichester Cathedral and 20 minutes to the Theatre Choice of full english or muffins with poached or fried eggs
Was ok for us but there was no lift and a fairly steep staircase, which would be a problem for elderly or those with walking difficulty. Check but they do have music until 3am (earplugs provided) but not when we stayed
Lovely staff convenient location

Pub with rooms above in the heart of Chichester with parking. Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff, excellent breakfasts, lovely large room.
The parking was absolutely impossible to find, I had to ring the hotel and even then, the route was bewildering.
Location was central
Very very noisy. Asked for quiet room, got what was the noisiest room in the establishment. Overlooking main road, loud traffic all night, drunks shouting all night. Couldn't wait to leave. Room tired and dated. Quite run down.
Location
Nothing
Very Friendly staff, Samuel was terrific & so helpful.
Nothing
Located a short 5 minute stroll to the Cathedral and main shopping streets. Breakfast was very good, good selection, freshly prepared.
The hotel section is immediately above a busy pub, which has live entertainment until 3am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and they kindly provide ear plugs in the room. We had room 8 which had possibly the most uncomfortable bed that I have ever slept in !!
Rooms were really spacious, staff really helpful and the brekkie was lovely 😍
The stairs with luggage is a problem if you are on long hauls. But only a minor problem
the bar below seemed a bit rough but once in the hotel section it was fine, the room large and well equipped, and the staff were welcoming and efficient. Breakfast good.
Carpet in room could use a clean. Steep and long stairs to reach the hotel section so not suitable for less-abled.
Breakfast excellent. Room comfortable and clean. Plenty of yeast and coffees etc and well equipped. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Downstairs decor was a bit off-putting. Very old pub style - all brown. Looked as if it would be sticky with beer but it was ok.
Characterful. Spacious bedroom and bathroom
Bar entrance a bit strange. It didn’t feel like a hotel.
A great hotel that is an absolute winner for convenience, right in the city centre and just a short walk from the station. The staff were very warm and friendly, welcoming me with a straightforward check-in process and a lovely complimentary arrival drink. My room was clean and comfortable and stocked with plenty of refreshments. I also really appreciated the fan during the heatwave! The earplugs provided for the weekend music are a thoughtful touch, and the cooked breakfast was delicious!
Although helping yourself to cereal, juice, etc. is generally the norm at breakfast, it would have been nice to have some upfront clarity from the staff on how it worked. Clearer guidance here would definitely improve the experience for future guests.
Great location. Very accommodating and helpful staff. Lovely comfortable bed. Breakfast outstanding
Location was good, room was clean and tidy, bar was welcoming
Nothing springs to mind
the staff were nice and tried hard to help.
I genuinely had zero idea this was a club with hotel rooms above. I stayed for half an hour late that night then left and booked somewhere else. The information on booking.com meant you had to scroll down and read through before you reached a warning about the club noise below from music until 0300. Same with the email. When I rang earlier in the day to check about parking, no-one told me. Clearly if I had realised the late noise until the small hours I would NEVER have booked it. The ear plugs on the pillow were a giveaway. It wasn't until I arrived and booked in and saw where I was and then went upstairs and went looking for reviews and read all my emails did I realise my mistake. They do make it clearer on the hotel website but I never looked there. I was working long hours and when I looked at it initially on booking.com and saw it was central with free parking with a reasonable looking room (albeit a slightly old fashioned bathroom) I thought it would be fine. I hoped it was suitable for my needs. I also wasn't happy that I paid £18 for parking because the one space that was free was teeny and very difficult to get a bigger car into. The nice guy on the desk did swap his car out so I could use his space but it was too late and I'd already had to pay. The hotel wouldn't refund me disputing that the noise issue was made clear. Interestingly the staff told me this happens a lot so I would argue I am not the first nor the last person to be caught out. I disagree but chalk it up to experience.
Fixtures and fittings all a bit tired. Noisey over night because needed to open windows(no air con). Good breakfast and parking.
Noisey.
Room was big and bed was comfortable. Breakfast was nice and the staff were very friendly.
Heard a bit of noise on the first night but that was expected due to the nature of the venue. They left some earplugs for us which was helpful.
Location and very clean and comfortable room
We loved our stay at The Vestry. It’s conveniently located with everything you need on your doorstep. Very impressed with the room, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom. Staff are absolutely lovely. So helpful and attentive.
Very friendly staff, great location
The bed was not made for tall people as was the shower, and it was quite hot in the room
Spacious room / comfortable bed Free parking Extremely helpful staff
Our room faced a main road in front which was extremely noisy till very late. Because we had to keep the only window open due to the heat we couldn’t block the noises with the double glazing. A/c needed. As it was above a pub the floors and tables downstairs were rather sticky and off putting.
Location, excellent breakfast, superb staff
Furnishings a little worn, wardrobe/dressing table especially. Probably not a lot that can be done about it being very hot weather but some sort of air con would have helped but doubt if practical in a building of this age
Access to the bar. Room was good

Great location whilst at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. You can get a shuttle bus from the train station 5 minutes walk away and leave your car at the hotel. Breakfast served at 6.30 to accommodate for the festival, however we left at 6.30 so didn't get chance to have breakfast, but they gave us coffee to take away. There are lots of good reviews on the breakfast.
High price while the festival was on, but most hotels do the same, so no different.
Clean rooms
Taking advantage and doubling the price for local events. Price paid £540 for 2 nights 🫢 that’s a 5* accommodation price
Location is good
Facilities very basic for the prize. Incredibly loud music played until 3 am in the bar. No warning of this on the website
Bed comfortable. Room spacious .Bathroom big.
No air con.
Location, friendly team. Breakfast, bedroom, parking
Very good value, nice staff and decent rooms. Not luxury but perfectly acceptable
It was all good, the room was big and airy and the bed was comfy. The free breakfast was gorgeous and I'm glad we came.

Breakfast was excellent. Location was excellent as well.
Air con would have helped. Hand rail on stairs dirty. We found stair gripper on carpet had come off and was put at top of stairs. Otherwise it was OK.
Location to cathedral
The very very loud music that went on to 3 on the morning. And kept us awake. However They did warn us and supplied ear plugs.
The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The staff & service were very good 😊
Noise.....we booked this very last minute as we let down by the original place we booked. The rooms are above the bar and it is a very lively student bar. It does say that music goes on late and it does. 2am!
Location very close to the centre. Adequate free parking. Fantastic breakfast.
On the hottest day/night ever, could have done with some bedroom air.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and the hotel is also in the centre of Chichester which is a bonus.
The only negative was that my partner thought the bed was too soft, but obviously that is just personal preference.
Good location
No air conditioning
Big room, large and very comfortable bed. Great location. Very good staff. Good breakfast.
Only one 'frosted' window in the room so could not see out at all. Felt too closed in. Nice corner bath but spa did not work. Fridge in room would be good to have. Music till 3 am was not a problem as our room was at the back but would not like to be in closer rooms.
Another great 3 night stay at The Vestry. Lovely big room, fabulous breakfast, friendly helpful staff. Marvellous location in the city and great to have free parking.
Nothing could have been better.
Spacious room. Good location. Parking was needed in town centre, so that was god.
Needs updating. Everything is tired, worn, damaged, been fixed several times. Needs air con as the room has noise from outside so do t want to open the windows. Tv 3 small and connection was not great.
It’s position in Chichester.
Outside noise just below my window early hours of the morning 3-6am. Men outside talking loudly, sounded like they were loading a van on the first morning Tuesday. The second day Wednesday sounded like glass bottles being emptied into a dustbin lorry just below my window.
Great as always. The team are always attentive and friendly. Great as always..
nothing
THE MUSIC THAT WENT ON TO 4AM AND KEPT ME AWAKE. THE HOT WATER WAS TEPID
Always like it here. Location is great for us and the staff are always friendly and attentive. Best marks for them.
Room a good size. Breakfast had plenty of options. Very close to the station and the centre of town, the cathedral with it's lovely coffee shop and peregrine falcons in the tower viewed from the lawns.
They provided useless earplugs for the Thursday night rave (until 3am). I would advise taking superior boots earplugs (£10) to reduce the noise enough to sleep.
Location was good , in the middle of town. Car parking behind was a little difficult to find, good breakfast
excessive late night noise I expect some noise from a town center pub but loud music until 3am and then talking and laughter until about four am right under my room
Breakfast was good quality, and well presented. A good atmosphere good clean and tidy rooms, the shower actually worked properly ( this isn't always the case in other places I've stayed in Chichester.)
It was very central. Easy to find. Convenient parking within easy reach of all the things I wanted to do in Chichester
On some nights there’s dance music. They provide ear plugs but I didn’t need them
Everything! Staff are brilliant! Rooms are spot on! Food is fab! And drinks are a good price! Karaoke was fab last night too. Brilliant place
Nothing to complain about at all!
Slightly noisy at night but it was expected
Staff were excellent, the room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. A much better breakfast than I was expecting too.
It is a great location on paper but only yards from an incredibly noisy late night pub/club and even with the window shut and earplugs it was still possible to hear loud music until 3am!
Excellent location for the Festival Theatre and the station. Room was large, comfortable and had a good bed and shower. Biscuits, tea/coffee and cans of still water in the room and a good breakfast downstairs of cereal, juice, pastries and extensive cooked options. Helpful staff on reception and security guards outside late night so felt safe coming back after the theatre.
Sometimes there are live music or DJ nights in bar downstairs but ear plugs are provided the room and the street is noisier than inside. So sleep wasn’t affected.
Everything! Was lovely ☺️
Bit dated, and toilet needs replacing but didn’t effect us
Breakfast was delicious and location was excellent
Nothing
Good location though initially hard to find Comfortable room with lovely soft quilt cover. Nice bathroom.
Stairs to the rooms quite challenging with heavy luggage. Couldn’t see out of window in my room. TV randomly switched itself on on its own several times during the night with me being nowhere near the controls. I think the room had a friendly ghost that liked to play tricks on the guests. Nice selection of teas coffees and biscuits and water provided. Breakfast nice too.
Central for the facilities and a very good breakfast
The mattress was the most uncomfortable one I have ever slept on, needs replacing. We didn’t stay the second night as my wife suffers from a bad back and couldn’t spend another night on the mattress.
Good choice of breakfasts. Quality good, though service a little slow Location excellent No club entertainment on Wednesdsys and so room very quiet and comfortable.
The bathroom.was generally very clean The lower seal on.the shower screen was damaged and did not hold the screen in place when the bath was being used. Some evidence of black mould around the lower edge of the seal. There was a good supply of shampoo, conditioner and hand soap, all in fixed containers. No other toiletries .provided,. Not a.problem in my case as I always take my own soap and shower gel.
Location & staff
Noisy and very uncomfortable bed with springs poking in you and waking you up. Club music pounding until 3am. No air conditioning
The location of the hotel was convenient for walking around town, and visiting the cathedral, shops and restaurants. Chichester is a lovely city. We only had to travel short distances by car to the beaches and the Roman palace in Fishbourne is fascinating, especially when you follow the ( very knowledgeable, free guide around). The breakfast in the hotel is very nice with cooked and continental options.
The traffic when getting out of the city can back up a bit, especially by the railway crossing.
Room was comfortable and great location with parking in the centre.
Shower screen needed a new seal on the bottom of the screen, simple to fix.
Cleaning ❤️
Very friendly staff ❤️
Excellent room. Friendly staff Very nice breakfast
Can't really think of anything
Very close to the centre
It was a very last minute booking and the information about late night music didn't become obvious until we'd booked
Hyggelig personale.
Tilgang til hotellet gjennom en bar eller en liten gang.
Friendly check in . Responded to questions prior to booking in honest way and helpful.
A little tired decor and some mending here and there.
Very nice service, the problem was solved very quickly, for which we thank you so much. . Nice hotel and excellent location
Nothing else
The location in the centre of Chichester was great. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
Unfortunately one of our two rooms was above the karaoke, and was noisy. We had been warned there might be some noise.
Lovely warm welcome. Great room with huge comfy bed! Super location. Free parking is a big bonus.
Excellent service from staff, clean welcoming environment. Spacious room and minimal noise. Breakfast menu offers a good variety and incredibly comfortable nights sleep
I honestly think the worst thing I could say about the room is the bathroom and main corridor looked a little tired and maybe in need of refreshing. But it was clean clearly well maintained.
Great location, nice big room with comfortable bed, breakfast range good Staff were particularly customer friendly and happy
Nothing
The staff were fantastic and do helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was good.
It was fairly expensive for what it was but the staff made up for that!! Rooms were a tad dated but large. The window was frosted which was a little annoying 😑
Lovely spacious room. Noise from bar was minimal, hotel provided earplugs but we didn't need them
Breakfast was below par. Cheap ingredients including eggs and bread
The customer service/ staff were exceptional - gave info on our queries about local services and seaking with the TV that was not working.
The TV was not working ( staff resolved this) and insufficient shelving in bathroom for toiletries.
The property was v central and easy to walk to everywhere we wanted to go We find all the staff extremely helpfully and friendly. Ben was the best !!!!!
I start there regularly when in Chichester. It’s conveniently located, offers parking and breakfast and has friendly helpful staff.
Not so much the property but the room on this occasion was sub-par; unquestionably the worst of all my stays there.
Location
Rooms urgently need updating
Great location in city centre, very helpful staff they all excelled at customer care
Bit tired, and could do with a little maintenance but nothing effected my stay there
Location was perfect, in the middle of town. Car parking behind but at owners risk. I didn't see if there were cameras or not keeping an eye on the cars. Ben and Beth were both good hosts. They told me that the ear plugs were because some nights are noisy. The night I stayed was student night. So was a bit noisy. As well as some local things about the town and wall. The room itself was lovely and the bed and bedding very comfortable. The next morning the breakfast was absolutely 💯 percent fantastic. I am sorry I didn't know the ladies name. But she was very nice as well. Cooked breakfast didn't take too long to be cooked and served. Maybe 10 mins max. Very pleased I chose this place.
The only things I didn't like was the windows were quite dirty and seeing as they were pull down windows , there was no real excuse. And in the bathroom there was quite a thick layer of dust on the door itself and along the bath skirting as well.
Nothing
Not impressed - the standard of hotel and room ways below the rate paid £143 !!! It looks like cheap hotel in a cheap town !! I would pay £70 max !!
Great location near the station. Lovely friendly staff to welcome you and the room was a good size and breakfast was very good. There was no noise from the hotel when I visited on a Thursday night.
Rooms are a little tired.
Room, large and comfortable. Breakfast good choices and well cooked
Everthing was good
The location was ideal for my short break and the room was perfect. The staff were very helpful.
Location to train station was most important for me because I had a 6am train back into London after my stay
Fabulous location and great service from Samuel and the lovely staff.
Fresh clean felt so comfortable
Best nights sleep ever
The whole experience was amazing, lovely hotel placed right by the Cathedral, Staff where brilliant so friendly, would have loved to have stayed for another couple of days. Thank you so much to all the staff both day and night it was my birthday treat and it was banging. If this hotel was on 4 in a bed on TV would be 10's all round and a return is on the cards. Thank you Vestry you smashed it. PS Breakfast was thumbs up.

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
7.2/10Rooms described as clean, but guests noted sticky floors/tables in the pub area and a dirty hand rail/stair gripper issue — generally acceptable but some housekeeping issues in communal areas.
Service
9/10Repeated praise for staff: described as absolutely lovely, extremely helpful and attentive — strong, consistently positive service impression.
Location
9/10Multiple mentions of an excellent, very convenient central location (close to station, festival shuttle, near attractions) — location is a clear strength despite proximity to a pub causing noise.
Room Quality
7/10Beds and bathrooms praised (comfortable bed, spacious room, large bathroom) but issues noted with shower/bed for tall guests, some worn furnishings and rooms getting very hot (no A/C).
Amenities
6.9/10Good breakfast service and bar access; free parking/shuttle available for events. Lacks air conditioning and some facilities are basic for the price, lowering the amenities score.
Value for Money
5.9/10Several guests complained about high/event pricing (price doubling for local events) and felt facilities were basic for the cost — value is a notable weak point.
Food and Beverage
8/10Breakfast repeatedly described as excellent/gorgeous with good options; bar access mentioned positively although bar noise at night was a drawback for some guests.
Overall Experience
7.8/10Overall positive stays driven by friendly staff, location and breakfast, but disturbed sleep from pub noise, heat/no A/C and some basic/worn aspects tempered the overall experience.
