I like the wood furnitures very much
Really appreciate the cool drink provided but it is too sweet to us
Location perfect. The colonial style made a difference to where we had been staying previously and we enjoyed this. The shoes off policy is great when going up to the bedrooms. Plenty of restuarants and food stools around and only minutes from the street art.
Breakfast was good be get the bloke serving to smile a little!
Great location, close to Chowrasta Market and walkable to Armenian St and heritage areas. So many eateries nearby. Rooms are individually decorated with unique character, spacious, very comfortable beds. Love the water, iced lemon tea and daily treats. Wifi is decent. Very unique way of getting luggage up and down! Staff are so friendly and helpful, the service feels personalised.
Being a heritage building, hardly anything is level, and you need to be careful with the changing levels along the corridors and in the rooms. No lift, so those with mobility issues will ha e problems. Aircon can be very cold. Some traffic noise from time to time
Location; heritage restoration, decent size rooms, brilliant breakfast and really friendly and helpful staff. Also there were little treats delivered to the room every afternoon. Very cute luggage handling system.
Nothing
- Location with plenty of eateries nearby. Some attractions are less than 20 minutes walk. - Friendly staffs - Clean - Like the flat pillows and there’re 4 of them - The daily complimentary dessert or cake - The vintage decoration
- It is better to have a reserved parking for guests to load and unload their luggages. It is a very congested street, so unloading the luggages is a bit of a hassle. - The closet is very small, so they should have more hooks in the room or bathroom.
The hotel is located in the city center, there are plenty restaurants nearby. The staff is suoer kind and take care of its guests.
This was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had while traveling. The preserved structure was beautiful, and the way the decor was kept to match that theme was so chic. The staff were so so nice, they even came every evening to drop off a baked treat or dessert during turn down service (all of which were delicious). It was very clean. The huge bed was so comfortable. The AC works perfectly, for when you want to take a break from the heat. I will 100% be back!
The floors are quite slippery, and you leave your shoes at the bottom of the main stairs, so watch your footing. No other notes!
Location Atmosphere Friendly staff
This may well be one of my favourite places I have ever stayed. I have dreams about returning. I absolutely adored this accommodation.
Everything was fantastic.
Great colonial-style interior in a great location
Hele mooie uitstraling en deskundig personeel

Nothing
A lot of great things about this hotel. First, the building is so historic and cool, it's worth staying there just for that. The location is perfect for walking everywhere. The staff is amazing, super helpful and cheerful. The attached restaurant is great! I would definitely stay again.
The only downside for me is something the hotel cannot help. Noise. The streets of Georgetown are very busy all night and the constant sound of loud traffic is annoying. If you're a light sleeper, it'll be a problem.
Sense of history in the building and decor, grand comfortable room
Aircon seemed difficult to adjust, light out in bathroom
great location in Georgetown
The location, the prompt response by the team and the cleanliness.
This is NOT the property's fault but the noise by the traffic can be disruptive for those seeking a good night rest. Cannot be help as property is along a main road. And maybe they can consider installing plugs near the beds. But I understand it maybe difficult as this is an old historic building.

1. Fantastic location. It was close to everything we had on our list for eating and shopping - tho Yuen, Kwong tuck, Toh soon, ham chim peng pushcart etc. 2. Homely charm, cosy like a house 3. Friendly reception staff and night guard Mr Lim
1. Housekeeping was unfortunately inattentive. Toilet roll and facial tissue not replenished. By the time we came back the housekeep staff was gone 2. AC leaking for 3 nights, before getting fixed 3. Blossom room was a bit cramped, app don’t allow to choose larger room. We were advised to book direct on hotel website next time
It's a 123 year old (1903) historical hotel, which we love, and it has been well upgraded in areas that matter for todays expectations (bathroom, shower and aircon.) Superbly maintained, but still retains its 123 year old character, charm and ambience. Extremely well located, in a quiet location, but minutes only to everything we wanted, and a Michelin star Italian restaurant co-located on ground floor adjoining
We only stayed two nights, would have loved more
A fantastic place to stay in Penang. The staff were excellent and friendly. The deserts every afternoon were a nice touch.
A quaint boutique hotel with all the charm of Georgetown. Campbell House is one of those places that sticks with you long after you leave. Lobby: Front-of-house staff have customer service down. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, everyone was warm, welcoming and attentive. Check-in felt seamless: one person talked us through Georgetown's sights and food spots, another brought us cool drinks (the sirap limau ais was delicious!), another sent our luggage up to the room via the pulley system before we got up there. We were aware of and happy to follow the no-shoe policy beyond the lobby. There are anti-slip strips on the wooden stairs, and slippers are available for anyone who'd prefer not to be barefoot. Room: We stayed in the Rose Room, which was beautiful. Spacious, with high wooden ceilings, a cosy seating area, plenty of storage and LOTS of hangers. Gorgeous stained windows, wooden shutters, additional sliding windows and floor length black-out curtains. Despite the numerous 'layers' to the window area, outside noise could still be heard on louder nights so do bring ear plugs if you're a sensitive sleeper. The queen bed was very comfortable for us (on the firm side), with both fluffy and firm pillows. Tea and coffee facilities were provided, and the mini-fridge was topped up daily with complimentary water, milk and delicious lemon tea. Turndown service each evening also came with a little sweet treat. Bathroom also had plenty of colour and character and full-sized toiletries so you truly feel at home. Cool cotton robes provided. We didn't use it ourselves, but there's a cosy little library/chill-out area with a bowl of hard-boiled sweets, which was a lovely touch. Georgetown kept us busy, but it was always nice coming back to such a comfortable room at the end of the day. There's also an easy-to-access laundrette down the street if you're here for longer stays (Kimberley Laundry).
Data breach prior to arrival: I received a "reservation review" message at 19:00 the evening before arrival, stating that my billing details needed to be verified before check-in. At around 22:00, I entered my card details via the link provided, which then stated the card had been declined and prompted me to use another. I immediately messaged the hotel and was told the message was part of a cyberattack and that the issue had already been resolved. However, if that were the case, I should not have been able to access the link and enter my details hours later. Thankfully, I saw the response before going to sleep and froze my card immediately. While I do not blame the hotel for the cyberattack itself, I believe guests should be proactively notified of security breaches rather than discovering them only after contacting customer service. Had I not reached out, I would never have known my information may have been compromised. It may also be helpful to clearly state on the hotel's website/social media that it does not send payment verification links/card detail requests before check-in. During stay: Although the vacuum appeared to be used in other rooms (and may have been used in ours), the rug was not cleaned particularly well, with dust and dirt building up over our six-night stay. We eventually had to shake it out ourselves as it became unpleasant to walk on barefoot. The drinking glasses also could have been cleaned more thoroughly, as one was returned with my lipstick mark still visible after a light rinse.
The location was terrific and the rooms were exceptional. Great bathroom. A very easy place to stay. Campbell House had a wonderful feel to it. A bonus was the restaurant next door. The staff were friendly and very professional.
Nothing!!
The ambience and authenticity of the hotel. It was beautifully furnished in Colonial style. The staff were excellent, attentive but not overly so, and friendly and helpful. A fabulous place to stay.
No negatives.
Super nettes Personal, tolles Frühstück a la carte.
We enjoyed our stay. The staffs are great, made us feel like home.
none
Great location
Air conditioning needs an upgrade
Good perfect location
There was nothing that we didn’t like except for the stairs
Incredibly situated in the heart of Georgetown, I was able to gently wander from my room to all the restaurants and shopping that I wanted to. Great location.
Charming boutique with lovely rooms, nice roof bar and good restaurant
Nothing bad
Gorgeous place. Great location. Full of character, comfy beds, amazing friendly staff and delicious restaurant on site 😃
A/C broke down, put me in a smaller uncomfortable room and did not refund for the failure. Granted the hotel was full - so what -
Management
Great location right in the heart of old town within walking distance to Chinatown, Little India and other areas. The friendliest staff! Everyone was lovely and kind.
The staff was so very friendly. Every night a “goodie” was in the room and the bed was turned down
The shower water wasn’t hot enough
Location. An attractive heritage property. Nice breakfast with great fruit selection
Climate control not good for sleeping. Happy to remove shoes to enter property and climb stairs. Could be a problem for those less mobile
Its character, the staff and food were all excellent.
Nothing
Everything, especially the welcome drink NUTMEG.
None.
Very friendly staff attended to all requests
We stayed in Blossum room just above reception . Quite nosy at night when guests returned to accommodation. Road noise was generally high. We had to use ear plugs to mitigate noise. The building is very traditional which meant there are more rules than normal accommodation. May not suit all guests.
My wife and I stayed at the Campbell House hotel for four nights during a Far East tour which took in also Singapore and Langkawi. The hotel is very conveniently located in central Georgetown and all of the attractions of the town are mainly within walking distance. For our visit to Penang Hill we had to get a short and very inexpensive local bus journey from the Bus Station which was a short walk from the hotel. Check in was fine and we were given lots of information about places to visit, eating out etc. Our room was very comfortable and not noisy other than one morning when we were woken up by the drums from a Dragon Dance in a cafe across the road and from firecrackers one evening - we visited during Chinese New Year so these were more of a bonus than a problem. An à la carte breakfast was served in the Italian restaurant on the ground floor which was OK but there was not a great deal of choice and inexplicably lacked any fruit juices, not sure why. The Indian/Bangladeshi serving staff did seem a bit surly at times, the occasional smile would have been nice. However these are minor criticisms in what was a most enjoyable stay.
Very comfortable boutique hotel, with very helpful and attentive staff. Room was very comfortable, with good air conditioing and large bathroom. Excellent breakfast served each morning. Situated in central Georgetown, ideal for exploring the historic part of the town.
Everything was great.
Comfortable and clean boutique hotel. Staff was attentive, helpful, eager to make the stay enjoyable.
Main areas were warm and not air conditioned. Rooms were well supplied with air conditioning and comfortable.
Lovely heritage hotel; well situated, stylish and each room has its own design and feel. The staff make the place very special: kind, professional and enthusiastic. The on site restaurant is excellent: booking advised. Breakfast is Al La carte and a great way to start the day.
We stayed in the Loft. It’s a lovely room but it’s on the second floor and then there are another set of stairs to reach the bedroom. It was Ok for us but probably worth mentioning for other travellers.
Location: many cafes and restaurants nearby Staff: very friendly
We could hear the road noise as our room facing the road. Air-conditioning was directly to the bed
Loved the location of this boutique hotel. You could walk everywhere. Each room is different which adds to the charm, love the architecture. Beds were comfortable, pillows were a little flat. Room was nice and big. Loved the complimentary dessert each evening! Staff was exceptional. Would stay again.
The only downside was our room was right next to the guest terrace, every time someone opened and closed that door, it made our door vibrate...as well, it could get quite noisy if there were people socializing out there. Thankfully that was only one night during our stay. If you want total quiet I would ask not to stay in that room.
Kumar working on the reception made the whole stay brilliant. His open personality and helpfulness was an absolute boon in comparison to our experience in our previous hotel.
Breakfast service could have been marginally better but all in all was good.
Lovely colonial hotel in the middle of town. Excellent welcome by the reception, lots of valuable advises. Each room is decorated in its own style, with lots of attention to details and style.
Funny to have to walk around barefoot but why not.
Historisches, stilvoll erhaltenes Haus an zentraler Lage.
The location was good
Our room AC and fan didn’t work, then the owner suggested we use a small fan til it was fixed the next day. We asked to move rooms, were moved to a room with external AC unit. However I think the unit was near a drain. There was a strange smell in our room the whole stay. The two European staff (assuming the owners/managers) were a little difficult to deal with, came across condescending. We didn’t bother saying anything about the smell to avoid dealing with them, and ordered an air freshener on grab instead. The local staff were lovely though. No lift only stairs, hallways and common areas weren’t air conditioned. Very much felt like they were cutting costs under the guise of being eco-friendly.
Great location. Beautifully restored mansion.
Rundum perfekt
Struttura bella e ben curata, staff efficiente, disponibile e gentilissimo
Prezzo della colazione esagerato
The property is very well maintained. The location is excellent, right in the heart of George Town. Airport transfer services is very smooth.
Wonderful hotel in a very central position filled with beauty. The staff probably the most engaging I have met in my travels.. ever helpful and sublime.. you know who you are! I was fortunate enough to meet the new owners and I wish them all the very best into the future.. They have such a wonderful crew around them , Loved the daily iced tea and chats.
We had the cheapest of the rooms and on occasion was a little noisy.
The building style was individual with high quality uniquely furnished rooms and common areas. The staff were very welcoming and were happy to help with anything.
Nothing.
An old colonial style building filled with charm, situated in an amazing location. Every room has its own name, here you’re not just a number. All the staff are super friendly and welcoming and the place feels like a real home away from home. Special shoutout to Kumar for the George Town 101 and securing us a room with a bath (amazing bath btw!) Breakfast in the Michelin awarded restaurant downstairs is very nice, and although the selection is simple, every request is made fresh and sets you up for the day.
The AC had a bit of a funky smell, maybe time to clean these? Also not the best hotel if you have mobility issues, the only way up and down is via some rickety old stairs, which could pose a challenge for some.
Very good service and exceptional room design!
A bit noisy at night.
Fantastic staff who were so helpful with our lost baggage from our international flight in.
Nothing
Atmosphere was great and the House is so beautiful!
Location. The breakfast also has good variety and choice for vegetarians and non veg although it is very egg heavy, if you don’t like or eat eggs. We appreciated the daily cordial/juice supplied. The staff are all very friendly and accomodating
There was a terrible smell in our initial room due to local drain works but the staff kindly swapped our room on request on our 3rd night. We had booked top tier room but I think the room given was not what we booked so perhaps double check what you’ve booked. We saw rooms being cleaned that were much more spacious although may not have had a bath. The rooms are also quite dark & difficult to get any natural light into however the wood shutters style is in keeping with the age of the property
Hotel is old colonilal style and extremely well managed. Location is good for old town (about ten minute walk). Room was comfortable, large bed, good air conditioning and a well appointed bathroom. Breakfastalso included and was good range of dishes.
The staff were helpful and accommodating. I rwally likex the location and the in-house restaurant.
We loved our stay in this heritage property. Our room (Malaya) was beautiful and very comfortable. We had the beds separated out into twins and there was still plenty of space, including a small sitting area with a daybed. We couldn't even keep up with the generous a la carte breakfast and the daily sweet treats left in our room (although we confess that's because we were indulging in a lot of street food!). Last but not least, the staff deserve special recognition for being so welcoming and friendly, especially Diana and Kumar. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
ALLES!

The staff were exceptional! They mapped out areas for us to visit and get around town. Every evening they had a complimentary homemade dessert for us as well as a carafe of lemon tea and fresh water in our refrigerator. There is a beautiful terrace on the top floor and a library on the 2nd floor. The breakfast was the best ever! They even packed us a to go breakfast when we had to leave early for a flight. It was excellent! I can’t say enough about this great hotel!
The doorway was small but quaint.
Lovely to stay in the traditional house, we had a great stay! Thanks for the honeymoon towel swans!
location and local historic style
nothing wrong. I like all.
In the heart of historic Georgetown is the quaint boutique property The Campbell House. We loved our stay! Greeted every day with a big smile and so much hospitality by the staff, especially Andy and Kumar! Service and cuisine in the restaurant top notch! Huge room very comfortable with lots of character. We loved the library and terrace for coffee and reading/napping after walking all around Georgetown. So many great places close by and the staff at The Campbell House won't steer you wrong!
The location of the house was well situated, great spot for food and sightseeing nearby heritage sites. The room was tastefully done and the staff were welcoming and really helpful.
Worn down, there were light fixtures in the bathroom coming out, the shower flooded every time you used it. You could hear a bit of road noise, but the curtains were decent at keeping light out. Overall expected better maintenance of the property for the price per night.
Nice old traditional small hotel with amazing staff
My wife missed the pool, but all the rest made this good
Central location and old world charm.
Being on the first floor we found it quite noisy at night due to the guests on the second floor stomping around. I guess this issue was put down to the age of the building and lack of insulation.
Authentic, colonial house with lovely detailing and furnishing. Good location in the Old Town of Georgetown. Comfortable bed and good levels of service.
Noisy. Although not a hotel issue, it has to be said we experienced lots of night time noise when staying at Campbell House. Firstly, owing to a power outage, a diesel generator was situated outside the hotel for two nights. Our sleep was affected. And on the third night, road repairs took place on an adjacent road between midnight and beyond 3.30am - with heavy rollers and pneumatic drills being deployed - yes - this is apparently allowed in Penang. Aside from that we thought the air con was also noisy and not at all adjustable. It badly needs an update.
Breakfast was in the attached Italian restaurant. Staff friendly. Choice of items. Location was great. Room and hotel a labour of love, beautiful furniture and art work. Comfortable and stylish. Rope pulley system to get bags upstairs pretty unique. Staff very friendly and helpful. Colonial room truly lovely. Loved the bright tiles in the bathroom.
Almost perfect. Room had lovely big windows with partial coloured glass and shutters. Looked out onto street although we couldn’t see - presume it was because of noise and to protect furniture so not as much natural light as we would have liked. We had choice at breakfast and presume a fruit platter was instead of fruit juice but would have liked that choice. It is a minor thing as breakfast was a calm experience unlike some of the previous large hotels which were buffet style. Breakfast was cooked to order.
Just had 3 nights in Campbell House, what a fabulous place checked in by Kumar who gave us so much information on George town and some great local eateries. The room was lovely my wife said the owner must have great taste as it's done so well. Treats in the afternoon, a great a la carte breakfast in the Italian restaurant downstairs and previously people commented on outside noise we slept through a massive thunderstorm and didn't hear a thing. Perfect location.Lovely place, very nice people highly recommended. Also we didn't go up to the terrace until the 3rd nights oops lovely place to chill in the evening as it cools down.
Great location, attractive and large room, helpful and friendly staff.
Nulla.
