Jimmy is amazing! We have just returned home from a family holiday and Jimmy took care to arrange all of our trips and dinner reservations! He really went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience whilst we were in Khao Lak, even though we stayed next door at The Little Shore, sister hotel to The Sands. Thanks so much Jimmy for everything! We had such a fantastic trip 🙏🏻
This hotel was amazing, it was set in lovely spacious lush grounds. There was a relaxed atmosphere and everyone was very friendly. We booked this holiday last minute, but had the nice suprise that it was a swim up room. The photos online do not do this hotel justice, its simple beautiful. Great location too, just a short walk up to main area, so lots of shops and restaurants.
Great location: on the beach and within walking distance to many good restaurants and bars. Friendly staff. Adults-only breakfast for couples and family breakfast for families in separate buildings. Enough seating for everyone. People can come down after breakfast and still get good seats. Water park for kids and adults-only pool as well as other pools.
You must try the candlelight meal on the beach. We had an amazing experience. From the moment we sat down we were treated like royalty by our wonderful Waitress AI. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. Couldn’t have asked for a better meal or setting. Definitely recommend as overlooking the beach and sunset was spectacular
Beautiful modern hotel part of a complex, with 2 other sister hotels, lies right on the beach. Although it’s a family hotel with busy small water park, it offers adult only areas, such as pool and breakfast. Our rooms were overlooking a small lagoon reservoir with some wildlife you can watch and admire. The buffet restaurant offers variety of food for every taste, with live cooking options. Talai restaurant didnt not impress us. Both restaurants were quite pricy unless you’re on HB or all inclusive. The rooms are cleaned daily, and you can order any missing amenities via the hotel app. We had a lovely warm welcome by Rose. Special thanks to Heart and Shuka for the special touches celebrating our birthdays. You must not miss the duo singers, I could have listened to them for hours, so talented. We left the hotel fairly early in the morning and they kindly offered a packed breakfast to go.
Our kids had endless fun at the water park. I want to truly thank the staff of Talay restaurant for their knowledge of gluten allergy- truly five star service and made my vacation stress free. The New Year celebration was really fun and fantastic food. I will only give 4 stars as we thought the buffet offer was very limited and the hotel generally needs a full renovation. (Older hotel built after tsunami). Might be back if it gets a revamp.
The Sands Khao Lak Resort is a large, well-maintained property offering something for everyone. It features an adults-only pool as well as a main pool, plus a fun children’s water park, making it suitable for both couples and families. The resort has three restaurants, including an adults-only breakfast restaurant, and a well-equipped gym. The junior suite rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. There is easy access to the beach with plenty of loungers available. The Talay Restaurant stands out with a good menu, well-presented meals, and exceptional service. While the adults-only breakfast restaurant is a nice concept, the breakfast selection could be improved. All staff are polite and willing to help if any assistance is needed. The resort is conveniently located just a short walk to the main road, where you’ll find many restaurants, shops, massage parlors, 7-Eleven, and minimarts.
It's a shame the beach doesn't have any sunbeds, so not really a great option for beach lovers. I'd have used the beach more had there been beds and it would have reduced congestion / fights for sunbeds in the resort. Pool sunbeds get taken up very quickly in the early morning. Breakfast is hell in peak times. The pools are OK, one is adults only and always empty. Shame they don't make it open to all and therefore more pool space for all. Easy walk to the mains trip for dinners & evenings out. Eat out rather than the hotel as the hotel is expensive compared to the strip. We paid 3000 bhat for a family of 6 to eat 3 courses and drink on the strip, but was double this for less food inside the hotel. Overall it was average. All staff are nice and helpful, but track carefully anything you put into laundry. We had missing /lost laundry sadly, but they did accept responsibility and we got a small refund (but didn't cover the cost to replace) but was a nice gesture that we didn't have to ask for specifically. it's a big hotel and spread out, so be prepared to walk a lot within the site. Wouldn't recommend for elderly or disabled personally.
Had fun at The Sands. Two swim up bars - would have preferred they open earlier but maybe that’s the holiday me talking…. Kids club was good. Staff lovely. Water slides switched operational hours with the lazy river. Lazy river was sped up (fastest one yet). Cleanliness wasn’t fully there. Housekeeping sometimes missed our room as it was at the end of their row. We got a family room with pool access which we enjoyed more than we thought we would, glad we made the gamble. Thought the cost for our week was a little steep for what we got. Take into account our Aussie dollar not so strong, peak time and the NYE surge pricing maybe it wasn’t steep?
Absolutely beautiful hotel. We stayed at Christmas & the lights were amazing. Everything was clean and staff were helpful & friendly. My daughter & I are coeliac and chose this hotel as it has a gluten free (gf) menu so I will focus on this as many reviews cover other areas. Good gf options for breakfast. We were given a form at check in where we could select the night before what gf options we wanted so we didn’t need to risk the buffet. Everything from eggs to gf pizza! A good selection of muffins, cakes and gf bread. Pancakes were delicious. French toast more like bread than toast so we only had once and didn’t like the gf cornflakes but after a few days we found what we did and didn’t like. Then had lots of gorgeous fresh fruit from the buffet. A few Thai lunch and dinner options. Tip - you need to say you want things spicy if you like what we would consider ‘English Thai spice levels’. We said ‘a little spicy’ the first time thinking it would blow our heads off and it was bland with no spice at all as they seem to ‘over compensate’ for tourists. Lots of gf options in the nearby town and it’s a great location.
Cannot fault this hotel. We had three family rooms in the Aqua wing All Inclusive. 6 adults and 5 children. Rooms were huge and well equipped. Pools and water slides/play equipment were clean and well supervised. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Food was great. Upon check in hotel gives you an app on your phone. App has everything you need to know. You can book activities, order food, check opening times, everything is on there. You can eat in any restaurant or get it delivered to your room. We had a few picnics on the grass with the kids and also ate on our balcony/pool area. Hotel replaces beach towels all day long and you can order anything you need through the app (ie: bottle opener, more water, bucket of ice etc). We absolutely loved this hotel and would definitely return.
Only two more days to go What a wonderful hotel. Great ambience and incredibly helpful staff. Nothing is to much trouble for anyone. The rooms are very clean with a great power shower!! Breakfast time can be a bit chaotic as there are lots of children here but the grounds, beach and pool have plentiful space. We booked the all-inclusive option which we thought might be a mistake but when we realised you could use the A la carte restaurants at 3 other hotels it has made it perfect. The food in these restaurants is stunning. Tow special mentions. Firstly the pool bar staff by the beach who never stop working and bringing drinks all day. Secondly but most importantly a young lady called AE in the Talay restaurant. This girl is wasted in here. She informed us more about the hotel and what was on offer than even the reception staff. Her English was perfect and if anyone in the hotel reads this then you should put this lady in a more customer facing role. All round a brilliant holiday
Just finished a lovely 7 nights here. Bed and breakfast and we had a pool access junior suite which was spacious and cleaned daily. We had a really nice welcome, and our cases were taken to the room with us on a cart. We really enjoyed sitting on our own terrace and swimming in the swim out pool. We had a couple of days around the main adults only pool which was nice and never full. Also had a couple of walks on the beach, you could walk quite a way in either direction, and the sea was a nice temperature. Breakfast was nice, lots of choice and we also got room service a couple of times as the weather wasnt great. All staff were amazing, so friendly, helpful and happy to us. The town centre is a 5 min (up a short hill) walk, and there are always tuk tuks around, and on market day they will order a taxi for you. Had a perfect stay thankyou.
The Sands in Khao Lak is a top very quiet holiday spot. It's in walking distance to the main shopping precinct and restaurants. The resort provides separate swimming pools for children and adults. It's located on the beach which is ideal for beach walks. The resort has excellent amenities, provides good food, has very friendly staff and has large clean rooms. Thank you Charif and Katie at Tully's Restaurant for your kindness and your professional service. We'll be back.
8 of us travelled to this hotel for 12 nights between the end of October and the first week on November. For perspective we had a mixture of ages ranging from 60 to 7 We have travelled to Thailand and its islands before staying in the katathani in Phuket and various Amari hotels, about 8 times now so we feel pretty well versed of the standards expected. The good Big hotel with every facility you could ever want or need Excellent water park for the children Well manicured gardens Excellent beachfront location Great gym facilities Superb selection of pools Good themed evenings Location great The bad Service can be erratic depending where you are eating/drinking. The team in the Talay restaurant were excellent, as were the team in the beach pool bar and the adults pool bar, however some of the team in the waterpark bar were completely untrained! A few times one meal would come out and would be finished before anything else arrived (we had to chase it). Also when ordering at the pool bar the team got the drinks wrong. Food is average for Thailand Breakfast is like a hectic canteen very busy if you time it wrong. The ugly Check in reception is dirty and needs a good clean, when you check in you can see the dirt, never experienced this before in Thailand normally everything is immaculate. Rooms were not clean on arrival, I am a little fussy I admit but mirrors were smeared and areas of the room worn but overall who spends time in a hotel room? This is a great hotel for a young family going to Thailand for the first time, however we have experienced far better standards of cleanliness and service at Amari hotels in Phuket and Koh Samui for possibly less money! It feels like this hotel is trying to be more European in its approach which will appeal to many, however people visit Thailand for the experience more than anything else and I felt this was lacking, maybe due to the size of the hotel. Tip We booked some great trips with the family going to elephant sanctuary, turtle conservation, tsunami museum, James bing island on long tail boat, bamboo rafting and temple with rung ontour khaolak who were sensational and half the price, ask for your tour guide to be BOND he is superb at his job
I really wanted to love this hotel but unfortunately this was not the case. This hotel was saved until the last leg of our Thailand adventure after staying in Bangkok, Krabi and Elephant Hills. We booked 5 star for all areas and this is the only hotel that did not come anywhere near 5* I would say 3*. First the positives: The hotel’s location is good. Fabulous sunsets can be seen on the adjoining beach and there are good sized swimming pools with lots of sun loungers. We stayed in a pool access room and it was nice to have this option. We found the first room we stayed in wasn’t particularly clean on check in and also we struggled with my teen not having any privacy so moved to a family room. Staff were good sorting that out and let us see the room then moved our things. The staff are generally super friendly and go out of their way to help. We have found this to be the case across Thailand. Negatives: the cleanliness of the hotel is very disappointing. One thing we noticed about everywhere else we had stayed in Thailand was that the cleanliness was exceptional but certainly not here. The room was unclean on check in and this was also the case when checking into the 2nd room. There is dust everywhere. Things have obviously not been moved just cleaned around as I found a hair clip and a ball of hair under the tissue box. The rooms really do need a good clean. The second room we were moved to had a cockroach problem. We counted 4 on the last night. I’m pretty understanding that we are in a different country in the jungle but we haven’t seen any other cockroaches at any other hotel out here! Whilst it isn’t the hotel’s fault, the cleanliness problem was extended by people leaving dirty plates outside doors after having room service and also dirty nappies!!!! Exacerbating the cockroach problem I expect. We encountered quite a few drunk teenagers who were clearly under age and sat merrily drinking after being served in the hotel bar. There was sick all over the toilet in the lobby. The bars and restaurants are pricey but that’s expected with hotel prices and there are so many other options outside the hotel. The breakfast buffet was absolute carnage - so busy, noisy and dirty. We found it was calmer in the manta ray restaurant and for the first part of our stay it was for adults and children over 12. This changed to accepting all ages but it was still much calmer. This is the first ever negative review I have written on trip advisor but I feel people need to hear it. I am still at the hotel as I write and am looking forward to leaving. We considered checking out and booking somewhere else but we would have been so out of pocket. It’s such a shame as I really hoped it would be the amazing final leg of our trip I expected it to be but it has just made me want to return home. Unfortunately we booked with a small agent in the UK who have been useless at sorting anything out whilst we have been over here. My advice is do not book here if you are expecting a 5* stay there are so many other options
Hotel location right beside a good beach. This is rated as a five star however it is most definitely not five star standard. Hotel is very big and was very busy during our stay. Rooms were decent size but cobwebs in room and lamp beside bed was not clean. Breakfast was chaotic and food quality was really poor. We had come from a five star hotel so I had booked this hotel based on it's five star rating however it is not five star. Positive would be it is a few minutes walk to main town and a Seven Eleven store. But very disappointed overall with the breakfast food quality and also the general upkeep of the hotel grounds with uneven surfaces and general maintenance needed.
Returned for the third time and just one year after our last visit. Had an amazing time again. Had a room with great view of the sea and sunset. Breakfast selection has many options but I hope they decide to have fresh fruit juice the next time we visit as the juice on offer is so sweet. Many hot local cuisines such as stir fries, curries, congee and soup noodle station. Egg station, bread, pastries, salads, cereals and fresh fruits. Although Chita no longer works here it was great to see her at the food offerings to the monks. The lovely Sugar is now in the role and she is as wonderful as Chita. Was also great to see that Mel is still working here. All staff are so friendly and helpful.
Overall experience was poor… initial room smelt and we had to request chg. New room had same issue with air purifier not overly effective. Maintenance onsite was clearly poor with numerous issues incl Tv reception and quality (broke down 3 times with varying issues); balcony door lock broken, curtain rail broken, lights not working, mould in main adult pool on water line and throughout, rain poured thru shower head when heavy outside, onsite washing machines and dryers broken and out of order with 500 guests fighting for 1-2 machines and no acknowledgement of issues by management. Staff engagement (other than front rest) was poor and lack of understanding and English not good. Zero proactive offering of food and or drinks at adult pool and no availability of pool towels anywhere at pools. Once your towel was wet it stayed that way for whole day as nil avenue to get new one. Umbrellas too small for pool seating and plastic pool lounges got very hot especially given towels not of sufficient size to cover. Quality of food and presentation at breakfast sites below standard. Old serving containers, food cold and not replenished, order of presentation all over the place. Management did not seem to acknowledge our issues and responses to live chat on app where at best slow and or unresponsive. When we did get some ‘compensation’ it was impersonal with voucher just slid under the door and nil follow up on any service issues. In summary we won’t return noting we acknowledge you get what you pay for on a heavily discounted packaged offering. Resort seems to be very focused on family groups. ( huge volume of kids) If an adult group spend the $$ and stay at the new K Shore resort next door. A
The Sands Khao Lak has always been a dream hotel for kids — the only one in Khao Lak with such a large water park where little ones can play all day. We’ve visited four years in a row, and while the fun at the water park remains the same and the pools are still clean and well-maintained, we’ve noticed a decline in service standards and breakfast variety compared to our first stay. Some facilities, including the rooms and kids club, are also showing signs of wear over time. Still, we truly appreciate the hard work and kindness of all staff — from the front desk to housekeeping (Building 6), the breakfast team, and the Talay Restaurant crew — even during a fully booked period. We hope the hotel continues to improve its service and upkeep, so it can remain the magical place our family loves returning to every year. 💛
Great location. Big. Clean and beautiful. Many pools and activities
We stayed in a Sands Room from Monday September 8 to Tuesday September 16 . From the moment we arrived , we were made to feel valued . The lovely Bird Bird on Reception checked us in . On first night after availing of happy hour and being awake over 30 hours , having travelled from Ireland , I was a little the worse for wear 🫣. The wonderful Meaw in Pineapple Bar really went above and beyond to make sure I was ok . Over the course of the 8 nights , she provided wonderful service and company . She truly is a beautiful person and went above and beyond during our stay . Nas in Talay Restaurant provided excellent service . The joke was that I was expecting a baby elephant 😂...the perils of having a beer belly . Nancy gave a wonderful massage which totally relaxed me , as I could hear the waves on the beach alongside me . Breakfast was had in the Floating Market Daily . It was amazing . You certainly wouldn't leave hungry . As it was low season , the hotel was pretty quiet which was Perfect for us . Every single person we encountered was so hospitable and friendly . This truly was Paradise on Earth . We can't wait to return next year .
Amazing resort and friendly attentive staff. Beautiful surroundings and easy to get into town. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Great value and wonderful stay.
It’s perfect for families. Also great for couples as there is an adults only breakfast buffet. Also an adults only pool. As well as two other huge pools; one with a lazy river ride and two slides.
Great location, activities for the whole family
We really loved this hotel in Khao Lak! The whole family had a great time for ten days and wish we could stay even longer! We would absolutely recommend this to everyone!
The room was very clean and a great size! The staff in all areas of the resort were incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble!
Shops within walking distance nearby was a plus to add some variety. Our room needed a refresher but otherwise direct access to the pool is great for the kids. The resort is large though and bicycles wouldve been a great facility, even the workers use them. Plenty of amenity and we enjoyed ourselves there
Property has seen better days. There were bagworms hanging from the toilet roof, toilet fittings are mouldy and rusting. Rooms smelt like they had been air freshened with toilet deodorant. Bedroom furniture is also worn out and not kept in good condition. It could also have been the season when I was visiting, but there are flies everywhere at dining premises. The main restaurant we used for breakfast was not air conditioned, which probably exacerbated the flies issue. On the upside, the pools were very nice, it was about the part of the stay that we enjoyed the most. We checked out 2 days early and moved to another hotel. Definitely not the 4.5 stars that it's meant to be.
Stay for a week in the beginning of September the hotel is beautiful located on the beach has a modern feel to it hotel Was quite as it was low season but lots of staff the staff were all friendly and helpful the hotel was spotless throughout the gym was one of the best hotel gyms we have seen Had a partial sea view room on 3rd floor room was large modern and had everything we needed we booked an excursion through the hotel as prices we reasonable we eat at a few of the hotel’s restaurants they were ok but to be critical not as good as expected on one occasion food was cold In general we would give this hotel a solid 5/5 and recommend it
Honestly after reading all the hype about The Sands I was a bit disappointed when we arrived. Check-in was disorganised/slow, and the room was small and worn. They provided a cot for our 3 year old and it looked about 100 years old (we asked them to remove it and she slept in our bed for the week). Mattresses all very firm - they did add toppers at our request which helped. The standard of housekeeping was not great, you couldn't really tell if the room had been cleaned each day. Used cups etc not removed. The app was useful for ordering extra pillows/hangars/water/loo rolls etc. I was also underwhelmed by the water park pool - only really 2 slides and a lazy river for bigger children, and just so busy, impossible to get sunbeds unless you reserved them early. The other pool was much quieter and by the beach so we spent most of our pool time there. Kids club busy and chaotic, I wouldn't have left kids unsupervised there. Breakfast again, just incredibly busy unless you got there around 7am. Hotel highlights for us were seeing the monitor lizards in the big pond and the location next to the beach but also walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants. The grounds were beautiful at night and overall our impression of the hotel was better once we'd settled in. We didn't eat dinner at The Sands - each night we walked or took a tuk tuk to a different restaurant, there was a huge amount of choice in the surrounding area.
Family pool access room great with kids however balcony was so short you could not recline the deck chairs while facing the pool, other pool access rooms facing kids areavlooked like they had larger balconies. Kids club was great for kids. Beach is nice, too rough to swim in during the low season. Little ahop onsite was handy and shoet walk to many restaurants, cheaper than eating at hotel. Life jackets provided for swimming if required. Kids slides good for kids under 5. Room with showers and toilets for late check out was great.
The hotel is lovely and clean and the staff are great. We were b&b and the breakfast was great with a good choice for children. The pool and slides were great for the children and the kids club had some nice activities for us to go and do with our children (bracelet making etc.) I would recommend to those with young families.
Macus, Jacky, Nathan, Pop took great care of us with the buggy service. The food and service in general was excellent and would definitely come back!
Booked with confidence based on good reviews, and overall, I enjoyed my stay with my family. But something missing in the good reviews is worth mentioning. First, multiple smoking areas around the resort are very close to the corridor and the room, and you can easily smell it when you open the front door or balcony sliding door, which is really not ideal for family with little kids or kids allergy to smoking smells. Secondly, before my stay, I already read reviews mentioned that this resort could be full of kids during breakfast time and in also the main pool. But it is way too OVERCROWDED in the breakfast that makes you not feel any Thai-style vacation relaxing mood, and feel very stressful instead. But it is worth mentioning that the service is superb, very efficient and professional, and staff are well trained and super friendly.
Recently stayed at The Sands and it was fantastic. Beautiful spot for families, great facilities for the kids and lots to see and do!
We had a great stay here. Lovely staff & well located
Very nice hotel for families ! But not beach
We stayed here with our family for a week and we had a really fantastic time. The hotel grounds, gardens and facilities are immaculate and whilst it’s a huge hotel with lots of people, you don’t notice the crowds in the areas away from the children’s pool area and activity centre. This place is great for families with kids as there is plenty to do. Our room was really quite special with a nice comfy bed, a lounge area and an outside balcony overlooking the pool and beach. Breakfast was very good with fresh fruits, European options as well as Thai, so lots of choice. The hotel is close to restaurants along the main strip of you don’t want to eat in the restaurants in the hotel. The food in the restaurant was good but a bit on the pricey side. The hotel is right on a beautiful stretch of beach and you can walk along the beach in either direction. The beach further up to the right was dreamy and worth a stroll. The hotel has lots of bars which offer happy hour at different times which was nice, and the cocktails were very good. We had such an enjoyable, relaxing and memorable stay here and we would definitely recommend staying here. A very comfortable, stylish, safe and immaculately kept hotel with very good standards of cleanliness. Worth a visit!
We stayed here for 10 nights and lived in a perfect bubble of happiness. We were here with grandchildren who loved everything this resort had to offer. We had the all inclusive meal package and lived in a dream with everything supplied. Loved this place and will be back again.
really good
Wow. Perfect hotel. Excellent hotel, perfect location. No need to leave the hotel. There is a solution for everything you could want. From slides for children, inflatables, tubes, a pool for adults, a pool for children, a lifebelt. We took a room with an exit to the pool - the most perfect thing we could ask for! An extraordinary experience, the staff goes out of their way, very helpful and courteous. A private beach strip for the hotel further from the exit from the pools.
Almost everything about our stay was excellent. The pools were fantastic and a real highlight for the whole family. Breakfast was good and well worth the price. The staff at the Flying Market restaurant and in the kids club were exceptionally friendly and provided great service. The only downsides were the slow-running water and inconsistent shower temperature in our room, which unfortunately were not fixed despite informing the staff, and the lack of evening activities — the hotel feels completely dead at night with nothing to do.
The hotel is excellent in service and quality and the driver Owen was an excellent driver and service Thanks for all 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Lovely hotel in the heart of Khao Lak centre. Very convenient for exploring outside the hotel, with town on your doorstep. Staff very friendly, nothing too much trouble. We stayed in a sea view suite which was clean and had plenty of space. Also managed early check in which was appreciated after travelling for 24hrs. Would stay again. Family of 4, 2 adults 2 teen boys
As I've only written negative reviews on TripAdvisor, I thought I would backtrack and write some positive ones on places I had visited before. I was at The Sands in Thailand almost two years ago and couldn't be happier with the grounds, rooms, people, food, etc. For those who don't know, this is one of the places that got devastated by the Tsunami. While it has recovered, there are still places to visit and pay your respects very near this resort. It's a sharp contrast while staying in such luxury. While you are there, you have your choice of amazing Thai food or American food in several dining areas. We took a package that allowed us to take advantage of both and get massages a few times while we were there. Excellent! We also upgraded our room so that we had a private pool which was wonderful since it was so hot. Head back to your air conditioned room and take a dip. The grounds are right on the beach so you can walk everywhere. I loved going to the outdoor cocktail lounge at night for special drinks (which were included in my package) and having dinner late. During our trip we scuba'ed, swam, attended holiday services, met with monks, went to markets etc. Our incredible concierge helped to arrange special outings that helped us to enjoy the real culture of Thailand. When I overheated, the nurse was quick to rescue and then check in on me. I know it's a long flight. And, it's so worth it. Wonderful vacation at a fantastic place. I highly recommend.
This was our fourth time staying at The Sands Khao Lak, and once again we had a fantastic holiday! We always book the Family Pool Access room, which is absolutely worth every cent - perfect for families who enjoy both comfort and easy access to the pool. Unfortunately, for the second year in a row, there was a mix-up upon arrival, and we were initially assigned a Junior Suite Pool Access instead of the Family Pool Access we had booked. I had even sent a message to the hotel in advance to make sure this wouldn’t happen again, so it was a bit disappointing to face the same issue. That said, the staff were quick to solve the problem during check-in and we got the correct room type without delay. Still, it does take away a bit from the otherwise smooth check-in process. The hotel itself continues to exceed expectations. Our children absolutely love the water slides and the lazy river - it’s a true paradise for families with kids! The newly renovated Floating Market where breakfast is served was excellent - great variety, fresh options, and a lovely atmosphere. I was a little sad to see that my favorite drink, butterfly pea juice, wasn’t available at breakfast. But when I asked about it, it magically appeared on the juice table the very next morning. Now that is five-star service! The entire hotel staff work incredibly hard and put in long days, yet they always greet you with a smile, ask how you’re doing, and make sure you have everything you need. A heartfelt thank you to them - you truly make the difference! All in all, we had another relaxing and fun-filled stay at The Sands. Thank you for making our holiday special once again - hopefully, we’ll be back next year!
The manager Puran followed up our review from July 21.He was extremely polite and assured us that he had followed up our experience with check in and room facilities and that staff would be reviewing their procedures. He did advise that the resort is a very large family resort and we are used to boutique resorts. That said if I was bringing grandchildren I would definitely use this resort as it is geared for chn 1-12.We very much appreciate Puran following up in such a professional manner.Well done.
The location of this resort is good and it has a beautiful beach with gorgeous sunset’s. We booked this hotel because of the little water park for the kids but it is better for much younger kids. This hotel had breakfast included but we never ate from the breakfast area as it was always chaotic. The room is cute with the double bunk beds for the kids but the room is very basic. Overall if you are looking for a resort where everything is overcrowded then this will be a great place to stay. For us we prefer a more peaceful resort and this resort does not give you that feel.
A great staff, from bell service to room service, kind and nice. Popmary and Owen are great guys that help fast in any request.
We recently stayed at the Sands Resort, the resort it’s self is pretty good just needs an big upgrade on some of rooms and amenities but our big disappointment was the staff at the hotel We left two of our girls backpacks in our room as we checked out when we were on our way to their sister hotel Katathani we realised we left them there an hour after we checked out. so we rang the sands hotel and asked the staff if the back packs were in the room for them to tell us they weren’t. It’s quite concerning to think we stayed in the same room for 7 nights these backpacks were in the cupboard the whole time they didn’t move (hence why we forgot them) for them to just disappear. The staff were not concerned their attitude was terrible. We thought a trusted 5 star resort would be more honest but we were wrong. So just be careful with your belongs. Overall we had a very disappointing experience with this resort.
Fantastic resort, great clean rooms and beautiful staff
I feel bad writing this, but I don’t want others to make the same mistake we did. We left yesterday after staying for two nights of our original five night booking. While this hotel is suitable for many, it is not Thai at all - you could just as well be in the Costa Del Sol (the bad bit). Cons: • The resort is FULL of children. If you’re not traveling with kids, avoid it like the plague, we have a six-year-old and even for us it was too much. We read somewhere it was great for adults and children alike, not true. Do not, I repeat do not come here if you don’t have children - unless you want to be put off them for life!! • The kids’ area feels like a waterpark canteen, not a luxury family experience. It is so busy and staff aren’t very friendly at all. Everyone looks absolutely miserable - staff and visitors. • Check-in/out was chaotic, we were completed ignored and the staff member who “welcomed” us was far from friendly. The lobby felt like a busy fairground. I think we both knew immediately we had made a mistake leaving our last hotel (The Ramada - lovely!) Our bags were dumped in our room and we were left, no explanation of room amenities etc. • Our junior pool access suite looked good on paper but was dirty on arrival (hair everywhere) and in desperate need of renovation. The bath wouldn’t drain and the main shower-head didn’t work. • Breakfast was decent but felt like feeding time at the zoo. • This is absolutely not a five-star luxury resort as advertised. It is four at best. • No free shuttle to the market surprising for a supposed five-star. • When we checked out early (after two nights instead of five), the refund was processed through Agoda; no one from the hotel spoke to us directly which again, are not the actions of a five star hotel. I do appreciate them refunding us as it was meant to be non refundable but not one member of staff asked us what the issue was. • The worst part, though not the hotel’s fault, was the other guests - it felt like “Butlins in the sun” with loud, drunk, obnoxious Australians. Pros: • Breakfast, despite the crowds, was nice. Staff at breakfast were friendly. • Lovely live singer at the Coconut Bar during happy hour. • Nice beach area and good local restaurants nearby (try Peter Pan the pizza place). If you’re happy with a resort experience that could be anywhere in the world and is more like a kids water park than a luxury hotel, this place might work for you. We booked based on rave reviews, but honestly, I question how well-traveled those reviewers are. Don’t come to Thailand and come to a hotel like this, it doesn’t do this beautiful country any justice whatsoever!!
This was my second stay at The Sands and, unfortunately, it will be my last. I returned hoping for another relaxing break, but this visit was filled with unnecessary stress and poor service. Extending my stay should’ve been a simple task, yet it was made incredibly difficult by staff – I eventually had to rebook online myself because it was easier than dealing with reception. On departure, I had a letter confirming a 5am luggage collection – no one showed up. I had to carry everything myself. Not a great way to end a holiday. The gym was unusable: stifling hot, broken air conditioning, and faulty equipment that was never fixed. Despite clear signs, there were often young children in there, making it neither safe nor relaxing. Entertainment was limited and dull, bar service was painfully slow, and staff rarely smiled. Getting a drink didn’t feel like a treat – just another frustration. Buffet prices were increased when the resort got busier, which felt unfair. Room layout felt awkward – bed in the middle of the room with the entrance directly behind. As a solo female traveller, I didn’t feel especially comfortable. My family also had multiple room-related issues. Even the resort shop offered nothing remotely healthy – just crisps, fizzy drinks, and processed snacks. No fruit or lighter options at all. The location is still lovely, and the food at the restaurants was enjoyable – but these positives were overshadowed by the overall experience. I left feeling disappointed, let down, and sadly, ready to go home. This was not what a 5 * hotel should feel like.
Wow... what a hotel. Facilities were top notch, optional activities galore, a day spa and also beach side massages, seriously we didnt want to leave the hotel it was so amazing. Loads of options for food, super attentive staff, everything lovely and clean, I actually cant think of anything negative to say
Overall was a good stay, however a bit of a swifty was pulled - we paid for a family pool suite, and clearly was the junior pool suite (difference of around $40 AUD per night) - but were told it was the right room just in a different area - but their room layouts on their own website disprove this. The room was probably preferable in the end (more private) but the fact we paid more, and they tried to do this secretly. Also happened to two other families we spoke to while there. Beds were rock hard and pillows too soft so we slept poorly (we left a feedback form after the first night, but was never picked up) The general manner of the staff was fine - FoH staff were not as friendly as you’d expect, but hospitality and room service were absolutely lovely. The facilities were good, great pools, and pool side rooms are a must to avoid noise all day long. BBQ buffet was sensational. I would give it a 7/10 overall, slightly generous seeing the room issue.
The Sands is a great resort for families and especially those with younger children. The pools are great and also there is a good playground area. We loved the rooms with their own pools, these were also great for young families. I'd highly recommend this resort.
1st time in Thailand. Beautiful resort. Stayed for 9 nights in a family pool access room. Clean and tidy. Serviced daily with water bottles replenished daily. Pool at room was lovely. Was busy season however still felt like we had privacy. Kids club was amazing. 7 year old felt loved and comfortable. Ate in every food outlet in the resort. Could not fault. Massages by the beach were perfect after a day relaxing. Swim up pool bars were a great way to meet many of the international travellers. Staff polite and attentive without being intrusive. Booked again for next year. Staying longer then. Well done
Keep coming here several times always never disappeared, excellent staff, excellent welcoming, excellent services, excellent food quality and excellent ambiance that why we are kept coming back like our second home more than 10 years. Really happy and loved 💖
We have stayed with our friends in a pool access room for 9 nights. The room was really nice. The attention from our staff was almost immediate! I don't know if it was because of the low season and there were a lot of staff members around or it was like that all the time, but it was great!!! Thank you to all staff members!!!!!! I really appreciate it!!! The grounds were nice, the food was good too. We were a bit concerned that being a family friendly hotel, we will be bothered with kids (no offence to families, i do have kids as well but when on vacation on my own ,i need peace) We were placed in adult wing and at breakfast we were able to have it at adult only area! So, to summarie - really good hotel for either groups of friends or family! I recommend!
After several visits now the Sands is still perfect for us and one of our happy places. The only change has been it’s much busier but we stay in the quieter area away from the kids no problem. I should say we are an older couple who enjoy the spacious well maintained areas of the Sands & do not find it noisy. Adult breakfast at Mantaray is a good start to the day. Block 1 is our favourite near the sea and only a short hop to the adult pool. Rooms are spacious & clean perhaps some showing their age but some maintence was already being undertaken. The pools/gardens are well kept. No sunbed wars always plenty free even at busy times. We were there over Easter. Lots of happy hours and contrary to another reviewer we thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails this year, also the GnT’s and the fruit shakes etc etc etc. 😀 The prices for an hotel are very reasonable although the local bars are cheaper as one would expect. We enjoyed the Songkran dinner, indoors this year as weather was iffy . The BBQ and Fireshow night was just amazing. We have stayed at others in the group ie KataNoi and the Waters but none match the standards, surrounds and particularly the second to none personal service provided by the Sands. Customer service and indeed the whole Sands team make everyone feel so welcome and valued & can’t do enough for their guests. All staff, including the gardeners, acknowledge their guests with a smile & sawasdee. Needless to say we have already booked again for next year😀. Thank you to all for another fab holiday.
Clean and safe environment with very polite and friendly staff.
This is my third time visiting here, and I’ve truly enjoyed every moment of my stay. Trust me — you don't even need to leave the property because they have everything you need: a swimming pool, kids club, restaurant, fitness center, and more. Breakfast was excellent, and all the staff were so kind and polite. They always greeted us with a warm "Sawasdee" and a smile whenever we passed by. I’d especially like to thank Khun Hya and Khun Tarn from Mantalay Restaurant for their wonderful service during lunch. Also, a big thank you to Khun Pla from housekeeping who kept our room spotless, the three gentlemen from the activity department who were always on standby at the pool to ensure everyone’s safety, and the three lovely ladies at the Kids Club who took such good care of our children. See you again next year!
I could not fault anything with our stay. The rooms were clean and very well appointed. They were also very quiet. The pool areas were clean and very well maintained. We only ate breakfast at the resort. There were plenty of options. On the last day of our stay it was busier and they struggled to keep up with certain items, I could imagine that it would be hectic during high season, but we couldn’t fault the place.
Staying here now and by no means rate this a 5 star hotel. There is no pool side service. You need to go up and order and collect food and drinks yourself. Which, normally fine, but not when paying the amount of money to stay. Plus when you have small children swimming, it's hard to up and leave without dragging everyone over. It also comes served in takeaway containers. The cocktails are also terrible. The service and friendly staff we experienced in Phuket for 3 weeks set the bar, so this feels so disappointing. A big hotel so no personal feel to it, unlike previous hotels in the last few weeks where staff knew our children's names. Not the hotels fault, but the main street is too quiet for us (first time here so we didn't know what to expect) multiple restaurants with the same menu, just a different name. No real Thailand vibe about it, we feel like we could be anywhere and miss having a multitude of uniquely Thai food and drink vendors directly at our doorstep. Almost a month in Thailand and we've experienced the worst food in Khao Lak, which is a disappointing way to end a holiday. I'm glad we experienced The Sands, but i don't think we'll be back.
This was an absolutely fantastic stay at this hotel. We used a luxary escapes voucher and for the price and inclusions I couldn't believe how lovely it was. Three pools. A wonderful kids water playground, a family pool and adult pool and Spa. We where checked in promptly and shown to our beautiful suite on the 3rd floor just 4 rooms from the beach, which i asked for. The aircon worked a treat, we had to turn it up it was so cold. We had a lovely bath, sperate shower and toilet and a lounge area. The hot water was fantastic as was the water flow, felt let down when i got home. We ate at both the buffet and the Talay restaurant . They where great variety that was always restocked. Never a plate empty in buffet at both breakfast and dinner. We never had to wait for a table. The ravioli i had at Talay was the best I've ever had. You could tell the pasta was home made. Staff where wonderful. Foam was especially welcoming and so polite. We had cocktails next door some nights at Tin lounge. The most beautiful sunset in airconditioned bar overlooking the beach. Once we found it we always went there.. Dana was so lovely mixed the most lovely cocktails . So professionally done. Put music to our taste and a nice supply of nuts. The younger guy and girl where also lovely. They had a couple singing which where super also. We enjoyed 2 massages right on beach in covered area with fans. So relaxing listening to the waves. All therapists where lovely and you could get in whenever you phoned. We had included transport one way which was super helpful as taxi was $AUD 100. It was our 36th wedding anniversary and i think we will be here for our 37th. Even though it rained some days it was so warm we still swam and read our books on balcony. The minimart at hotel was very useful The hotel did supply unlimited water but the prices where great for a snack. There was also a buggy that would transport you to a restaurant on the street but only if it was on on the hotel list.
My wife and I holidayed with my sister and her partner, as they had previously stayed at the Sands a couple of times before and recommended it to us. We were pleased with our room and the facilities at the Sands. However, we did have some issues that marred our overall enjoyment. From the beginning our air conditioning was not working properly resulting in us feeling hot during the night. I reported the matter to reception on three separate days, even asking for an upright fan as a temporary measure, but no action was taking other than a plate of fruit being sent to our room. We also had a blockage in our toilet which we reported to reception, but again nothing was done and we eventually managed to clear the blockage ourselves. We did ask to speak to a member of the management team to resolve these issues but again nothing happened. This was especially disappointing to us and needs addressing. Our a/c problem was only resolved when Chita, Guest Services, returned from a four day break and, after speaking with her, she immediately ensured that the a/c unit was inspected and cleaned, thereafter it worked perfectly. We were aware that the hotel was family friendly and that therefore there would be a lot of children staying. For that reason we chose a junior suite with pool, lagoon access on the wing away from the children's water park. We were assured, according to the hotel's website, that the Lagoon Wing was 'To rest - centred on a lovely lagoon Wing that offers a quiet space perfect for serenity seekers'. The reality though was that most of our neighbours had children of various ages and the noise level in the lagoon was certainly not peaceful - we even had a group of teenagers playing water polo! There were signs on everybody's patio saying that jumping, diving, etc. was not allowed but sadly nobody took any notice and the area was never checked by any staff members. This was a great shame and definitely impacted on our enjoyment. We did appreciate that Chita, when she was aware of our concerns, communicated with us both via phone and in person in an attempt to move us to a potentially quieter seaside view room, but unfortunately there were not two available as we would have wished to relocate with my sister and her partner. My wife and I found Chita to be charming as well as helpful and this went some way to restoring our confidence in the management. The hotel did have a good size adults only swimming pool which we used to escape to when the noise was really bad , although from time to time children ( sometimes with their parents) would ignore the notice which was frustrating especially as nearby staff members did nothing to enforce the rules. On the plus side we found the hotel staff to be unfailingly polite and our room was kept spotless by the tireless Kam. The hotel grounds were immaculately kept and we loved the Sands close proximity to the wonderful beaches of Khao Lak. The hotel also scored well with the standard of catering and service at the restaurants that we dined in, Manta Ray and Talay. The resort has a shop, which we used on several occasions, selling a range of items from beachwear to sweets, drinks, snacks and souvenirs all at reasonable prices. The Sands is well positioned being only a ten minutes walk to the town of Khao Lak with its many restaurants , bars and shops and Bang Niang with its lively market and bars is only a short taxi ride away. Overall we felt that communication between management and guests certainly needs to be improved to deal with issues that arise and a more honest description conveyed on the hotel's website. If there are no adult only rooms/areas this should be made clear to prevent misunderstandings,( this has been noted by other guests reviews). The Sands needs to think about what exactly it is they are offering, if it is to be solely for kids and their parents please do not mislead those seeking a peaceful break. For this reason alone we could only rate the Sands as three star average. It is to be hoped that feedback will be addressed. The Sands certainly has a lot going for it and the potential to meet all guest's needs.... …. but is anybody listening?!
Great family get away. Pools a bit crowded at times, later breakfasts got a bit crazy. Overall lovely.
A very large resort but plenty of space. Fabulous kids playground pool for families and a lovely adults pool . Beautiful food in the on site restaurants but if you pick the wrong time in the morning it’s absolutely crazy at breakfast. Way too busy for us. We were heading down at 7am.
The Sands has always been a great stay, however as a British person our fourth time lacked the authenticity due to the number of Brits that were there. This isn’t the hotels fault but it did make this feel like the old Tui hotel in Khao Lak . As usual the staff were great, rooms were well maintained and the hotel grounds were kept tidy. Breakfast was understandably busy but the options were good and the staff worked hard to provide good service. Mel and Jayne were so welcoming every morning. The options on the high street were great for dinner and the food has the authentic taste at very cheap prices. The kids club was great and Jayne and Michelle were fantastic. Our stay was during Songkran, I would say that the hotel made a mistake with some of the events, Little Miss Songkran was poorly awarded, there were four young girls participating and the guests were asked to use flags to vote for their favourite. The flags were handed to the participants and the one with the most won the award. They put the tallest girl at the front which meant the younger shorter girls couldn’t be seen, then when it came to receiving the flags again they put the tallest girl at the front of the line and the staff encouraged children to give the flags to the participants. The children were shy and just giving it to the first girl in the line. It wasn’t a true reflection of choice and it made it uncomfortable to watch for the other three girls who were not positioned to receive a flag. The hotel should not include Little Miss Songkran in the future and just use the adults instead. Otherwise it was a good stay, but please don’t lose that authentic peacefulness that has always made The Sands so special.
Easily the best family and children resort I have been to. The kids amenities are excellent and include fantastic pools with slides, lazy river and water fountains and structured activities for all age kids. There were also general pools and a adults only pool, they all had pool bars with generous happy hours. The restaurants in the hotel were high quality and yet well priced. We booked through luxury escapes and received a lot of additional free bonuses.
Very nice hotel with large air-conditioned rooms and a massive bed. You can even change your pillows or mattress if you are not happy. Room cleaned daily, small fridge to keep your food or drinks cold. Very friendly staff. Choice of restaurants to eat, adults only area for breakfast and pool area.
We loved the kids club, splash park and our pool access room though it was looking a little tired. The Buffet breakfast could be better compared to other resorts.
Excellent hotel for kids and family. We stayed in a family room which was spacious enough for 4 of us. Big area with several pools and restaurants. The only
Great family friendly resort, easy access to the beach and walk to restaurants etc.
Lovely resort! I feel the resort is best suited to families with children under 7 - as everything shuts down so early. Lots of babies and young children and programs for the littles. The nightly performances and live shows were wonderful room was spacious clean and felt like a taste of home - loads of room to spread out kids stuff and still have space leftover Food was average but there were awesome restaurants when you walk down the beach The beach was spectacular! Warm sea water and clean!
As returning guests to Katathani for the fourth time and The Sands for the second time, we were excited to be back. However, our experience this time was somewhat disappointing, starting with the reception. Upon arrival, we were not given the room we had booked. Instead, we were offered what was described as an upgrade, but in reality, it was a ground-floor room next to the dining area—far from the sea-view room we had originally chosen. Thankfully, Chita, guest services was incredibly helpful and apologetic, ensuring we eventually got a more suitable room. When we last visited The Sands in 2016, it was a peaceful, boutique-style hotel that focused on ambience and serenity. Unfortunately, the atmosphere has changed dramatically. With the recent addition of a small water park, the hotel now caters primarily to families. One of the most noticeable differences was breakfast. It used to be a calm, relaxing start to the day, with coffee and tea served at the table. Now, it feels more like a chaotic, all-inclusive buffet, with guests scrambling for food. While this may suit families looking for a lively experience, it wasn’t quite what we were hoping for. Had we known about these changes, we would have likely booked The Little Shore (next door), another Katathani property that still emphasises tranquility. That said, The Sands remains a great choice for families—it’s in a fantastic location, and the facilities are well-maintained. However, for couples seeking a quiet, boutique experience, it may no longer be the ideal choice. Would we return? Likely not, but we’d still recommend it to those traveling with children.
What a wonderful resort to spend your hard earned holiday! My wife, our 9 year-old son and myself, booked 15 nights here from Feb 18th through March 5th, and we cannot recommend this hotel enough. We booked from the UK with TUI. When you arrive at The Sands (it’s just an hour and a half from Phuket airport), you immediately realise that not only is the resort very aesthetic, but it’s smack-bang in the centre of Bang Niang town. This allows you really easy access to some of the best shops, bars, restaurants and the night market that Khao Lak has to offer, and this is why you’re best off opting for b&b, rather than all inclusive. There is an AI option with The Sands - go for it if you prefer - but I, personally, would advise against this due to the hotel’s location. You’ll miss out on so much. The resort is large, but when you’re there it truly does not feel like it. It’s very family oriented, but you’re not surrounded by children. It definitely provides for all holiday makers. The beach is straight out the back, with kilometres of walking on the sand in either direction. The beach is not the best ‘insta’ beach you’ll find in Khao Kak - Coconut beach/White Sands Beach/Memories Beach are all within 20 mins tuk tuk ride of The Sands and they are prettier - But hey, sand is sand, right?! There’s a guy selling his own hand made necklaces 400 yards if you turn right. Lovely fella, and 200bht per. We had a family room that you could see the splash zone pool from. There are two slides and a lazy river, plus a small kids’ water play area in the family pool section, and a swim-up bar. The main beachside pool is a split pool with a separate jacuzzi area, and also has a swim-up bar. It’s 100 yards from the beach. There is a small, adults’ only pool that we obviously couldn’t access. These pools have restaurants in very close proximity, and the splash zone has a guy serving up fresh Roti - really great value, 100-150 baht a pop. Our room was very compact and had everything you needed. Water and coffee/tee replenished every day. It overlooked the lake that had fish feeding twice a day, morning and evening. The ‘big show’ was the monitor lizard who made an appearance whenever food was available! Our room was very clean - you can leave your little leaf out to get the chambermaids to clean throughout daily if you wish. We asked them maybe every 3 days. They were all very polite, really friendly, and thorough, and they seemed to be surprised when we didn’t need a room clean. On occasion, we had towel decorations and fresh flowers on our beds. Great service! As we were celebrating my wife’s birthday, they brought us a cake, which was lovely! There was a lady called ‘Mee’ who just fell in love with our boy because he can speak a bit of Thai, and she seemed to really appreciate this! We were booked on a b&b basis. I would recommend this over all inclusive due to the location of the resort. Breakfast at The Floating Market was pretty good. It does get a bit samey over a fortnight, but there is always something to eat, whatever your preference. All palates are catered for. You have to walk in and wait by the desk for a staff member to greet you, ask your room number, and another person will then show you to your table. We did notice that quite often families just walk in, choose a preferential table to them (usually outside), and wonder why they had no cutlery or placemats. There is so much to do at The Sands. Whether you like to ‘gym’ it, chill out, get a massage, plan your wedding, put your children in the kids’ club, or play pool/table tennis/big chess, there is no preference that’s been ignored. We didn’t meet a staff member who wasn’t happy, nothing is too much for this team. From the front of house staff, through to the gardeners. The in-hotel gift shop has so much to offer - food, drinks (alcoholic and non), toys, clothing, postcard posting service, and loads more. And it’s not that much more expensive than the 7/11’s. We went to Coconut Beach twice, and it was beautiful. If you find a beach bar/restaurant and buy food or drinks, you get your sunbeds for free. We found one called ‘Restaurant the beach bar’ and we had the best Laab we’ve ever had, amazing fried chicken and prawns, with a great host/barman and a wonderful Auntie cooking brilliant food in a tiny kitchen. So cheap, so good! So. Food! The food at The Sands is meant to be amazing, but.. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner at the resort. There are literally 40 plus bars and restaurants within a ten minute walk. Just wander up the drive from the hotel and turn right, then take your pick. They are very much cheaper than the hotel food, and the best ones aren’t the ones that you see recommended before you come. We ate out every night, and our favourites were; *Go Pong *835 Market Streetfood Restaurant *Jai *Larn Deo *Focus Bar fried chicken (just in evening) *Lamuan Seafood We went to Pam’s and it was fantastic, but the setting helps - the food (although brilliant) was no better than the tiny tin shack places. Best bar we found was Landing Bar. Really friendly team, cheap drinks, music and sport on their TV. Focus Bar was also really chilled. We would recommend for your trips: *Surin Islsnd *Khao Lak mini golf and labyrinth maze *Ethical elephant sanctuary and river rafting *La Vela resort for their KOKULO beach dj/barman show/fire show/unlimited lobster buffet (including wagyu beef!) *813 boat Tsunami memorial *Coconut beach for the day Rung Ontour Khaolak and Ann Suvipawadee Khawsong were our go too’s for booking tours. Both amazing service. You can access them both via fb. You can buy anything you will really need from the 7/11 shops (there’s two within 5 mins walk from The Sands), but remember that you can’t buy alcohol between 2 & 5 every day from them. Pack of cigs - less than £2! If you book this resort, in our opinion you will be blown away. Whoever manages this place truly knows what they’re doing. We cannot find fault. For the money, it’s perfect. The service you receive, the location, the food choices within such a close proximity, and just the general feel of the place, it’s all just bang on at Bang Niang! Just don’t forget to grab yourselves a 79baht Mojito on your walk back every night!! Amazing resort, amazing times. Loved it.
Turned up for day 1 of pur belated 30th wedding anniversary holiday, which was delayed due to illness. So far, impressions are one of amazement with the location, amenities, and staff and to top if off, walked into a swim up beach view room room with an anniversary cake. What a kind gesture and one that will stay with us for a long time.
Fantastic hotel with a beautiful beach front restaurant with the most amazing views The room was spacious and very clean with shower and bath facilities Area outside hotel is full of good restaurants only a ten minute walk also if you are into diving you have the Dragon dive centre very close by . I would thoroughly recommend
The hotel does not pay the promised refunds in case of cancellation. I had made a prepayment but had to cancel my booking. According to the booking terms, the prepayments are to be refunded entirely, but the hotel has not given a refund after 70 days. After a dozen reminders, they just keep saying, "The refund is under process." The hotel clearly scams customers who have made a prepayment but must cancel the booking. All cancellation terms were followed in this case.
I really liked this resort the location was fantastic with the shops, restaurants and bars of Khao Lak within easy walking distance. Bang Niang Market is about 15 to 20 minutes walk or a 5 min cab ride away . The resort sits right on a lovely beach and had several pools including a children's pool and an adults only pool. We could always find a sun bed when we wanted to use them. The facilities seemed really good and the food we had was of a good quality and at breakfast there was always plenty of choice. The room we had was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. It had a large balcony with reasonably comfortable chairs and an outside fan to help keep you cool . The staff at the resort were always very helpful, friendly and polite. I would definitely stay here again
Fantastic hotel for families. Really ice rooms, grounds, facilities. Would definitely stay again
Had a swim-up room. Great when you have a 6 months + a 3.5 year kid. Grat area for families with kids. Amazing staff and service. Close to the Tsunami memorial and the night market.
Beautiful place , great staff , amazing location , nothing not to like . Definitely coming back here . Highly recommend
We are a family of 4 (children aged 6 and 9) who have spent four nights at the sands. We were extremely satisfied with the cleaning, activities for the children and easy access to the local town. The pool area was really nice for mixed age groups. The beach was child-friendly and clean. It was easy to get sunbeds (4 pieces) even though we arrived at 10.30 am to the children's pool. The breakfast buffet was nice and the service was also satisfactory.
This was my second stay at this property and it was another great one. The family rooms are spacious and have most things you need. We opted for the oil access in the Aqua wing and it was a great experience. Breakfast is amazing, wonderful food and choices galore. Loved the fish feeding experience daily for the kids We had lunch at the the Manta Ray and Coconut/Talat and it was lovely. Great portions. We also ate dinner at the Floating Market for a special fire show evening which was lovely . The areas of improvement would be that some of the paths are a little dangerous for kids/older people. Need grates over holes etc. Also the fact that the Jellyfish bar is the only place to get draft beer and they ran out was disappointing. Would also be handy to have a bottle opener provided in the rooms.
It was our wedding anniversary and The Sands specially decorated the bed and provided a sponge cake to help us celebrate. We stayed in a ground floor room with direct pool access and it was great for our two young boys. They were 3 other pools as well with the kids pool being a favourite. The resort has direct beach access and is an easy walk to the main stretch of Khao Lak with great dining options and local shopping. Breakfast had a wide selection which easily catered for our varied tastes. The staff were amazing and the rooms were comfortable and clean. We enjoyed an amazing sunset on Christmas day and wished we could have stay longer. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather which was a bonus.
Lovely resort well thought out for children and adults. Separate pool for adults and breakfast also separate for the adults. Lots of very friendly staff. Lifeguards at all the children's pools safety was paramount. Washing facilities available for clothes however one machine out of 3 was out of order so often a queue to get washing done. Food very good although same offering every day. Buffet breakfast excellent.
If you have kids this is a great option! The mini waterpark was great fun. The beach front is also nice and there are loads of sunbeds as well as three pools. Super kid friendly and our teen two-bedroom suite with bunk beds for the kids was perfect.
Our children are 9 and 12 and felt like this catered more towards younger families as a lot of babies around and most activities were aimed to younger children. Everything was as sold, nice room and accommodation but maybe lacked a bit of personality and catered more towards volume
Amazing hotel, great food and excellent for kids.
Most amazing hotel we ever stayed in.Staff very pleasant and helpful. If you want luxury stay then this is the place .Loved every minute of it.Everything we could wish for.
Super friendly safe, dream holiday for kids, waterpark and indoor playcenter were great fun. Clean and tidy facilities. Highly recommend to families seeking a kids resort with lots of space, pools and about everything you could want a holiday resort to have...
A great resort in nice coastal area. This was a great base for our 2 week stay.
We had an incredible time at The Sands. Everybody was super friendly and our room was perfect for our family. Would definitely recommend and stay there again
If you have a family and want a hotel that suits everyone a stay at The Sands is a must! Our kids, 10 and 13yrs had an absolute ball. The hotel food options were great, even catered for gluten free and if we wanted something local we were close to so many restaurants. We are definitely coming back next year. Love the place.
Amazing seaview from our suite. Great selection for breakfast.
Many areas for all to enjoy. Rooms very comfortable. Even asked to by mattress topper as it was so comfortable. Some areas need maintenance such as Aqua Zone with rust and sharp edges. Timber rotting around pool access rooms and plenty of ant's. Overall will def come back. Easy walk to shops, markets and restaurants. And cheaper than Patong region. 6 times to Thailand and Khao Lak has been the best. And Sands best resort so far
Loved the family friendly facilities
