A beautifully decorated castle with so much history. Super friendly staff and management. Richard our host is delightful with so much knowledge of the property, history and surrounding area. Sizable bedroom and a scrumptious breakfast. We will definitely be back. I left some clothing and it was sent promptly back to me.. Thank you

This place was a dream! Overlooking the beautiful Loch, sunset walks, wildlife and Highland surroundings. I loved the peacefulness of the day, it was our favorite part of our entire trip. The staff were exceptional and the morning Scottish breakfast was such a cool experience to wake up to. We loved sitting by the fireplace at night in the great room having drinks, and eating our local meats and cheeses from the delis. Absolutely would come back!

I loved everything!

Ik weet niet waar ik moet beginnen. Het was fantastisch. Het begon al met een vriendelijke gastheer die een toffe rondleiding gaf. En toen de kamers. De authentieke aankleding. Alles in 1 woord perfect. Toch modern maar helemaal in stijl van een kasteel. De hemelbedden lagen hemels en we wilden hier eigenlijk niet meer weg. Ook het ontbijt was goed verzorgd en we hebben genoten. En de gastheer had goede tips voor restaurants in de buurt en daar hebben we ook graag gebruik van gemaakt.

Absolutely nothing not to like

The Castle was unique and fun to stay in with lots of its own history. The period furniture was great. The host was very attentive and helpful. The breakfast was very good. The surrounding area was very beautiful.

On a vraiment tout aimé.L'accueil extraordinaire dès l'arrivée sur le parking avec visite du château et de son histoire vraiment très intéressante et ses passages secrets...Un grand merci au responsable qui nous a accueillis. Gentillesse de nous prendre en photos à l'extérieur. Grande chambre impeccable et TV dans le miroir doré. Boire un verre le soir dans le salon à ne pas manquer. Excellent petit déjeuner dans la grande pièce du château service à table.

The stay at the Barcaldine was so very special! The castle experience was authentic and genuine. The rooms were very well appointed with lots of character and charm. The room setting for breakfast service and late day drinks was incredible with art, artifacts and furniture fit for a castle! We enjoyed reading about the history of the castle art! Outside grounds and patio facilities were lovely. We appreciated the warm welcome when we arrived. David you should be proud of all that you have done to make the Castle a memorable stay!!

It was unique and a high standard.

Das Zimmer war unfassbar schön. Schon modern ausgestattet aber man hat es auch hervorragend geschafft den alten Charme des Castles zu beschaffen. Besonders beeindruckend war der Geheimgang, welchen unser Zimmer zum Kaminzimmer (Aufenthaltsort für alle Gäste) führte. Toller persönlicher Service

Das alte und gut erhaltene Bett war sehr schön, aber auch sehr knarzig. Aber sonst alles top in Ordnung.

Accueil chaleureux par un personnel enthousiaste, passionné et enjoué qui nous a fait visiter le château. Après 4 heures de route, sa bonne humeur nous a fait oublier la fatigue. Chambre magnifique, calme, lit ultra confortable, peiti déjeuner copieux et de qualité, parties communes exceptionnelles, et même des passages secrets ! Amazing ! Fantastic !

Everything was wonderful

Our stay was one of the highlights of our trip. The staff were amazing, friendly and so informative about the castle's history. Beds were comfortable with plush bedding. We also enjoyed the continental breakfast with made to order eggs. One of the best parts was spending the evening in the great hall with hot chocolate and comfy couches while the wind roared outside. It was such a unique experience that we will never forget.

Un'esperienza magica che dovrebbero provare tutti. Il castello è magico, arredato divinamente con un giusto rapporto tra antico e moderno. Patrick e Cecilia sono degli host deliziosi: ci hanno fatto fare un bel tour del castello e ci hanno aiutati ad arrangiarci per la cena. La sala grande col camino acceso è deliziosa! Assicuratevi di arrivare in tempo per godervela! C'è anche un piccolo bar con una piccola selezione di whiskey e gin della zona. Consigliamo la camera Barcaldine che ha un bellissimo letto a baldacchino in legno e ha un comodo passaggio segreto nelle mura per arrivare direttamente in sala colazione!

È davvero molto caro, ma è comprensibile: mantenere un castello del genere è costosissimo. Mi sarebbe piaciuto però che ci fosse uno sconto per stare più di una notte, avrei tanto voluto potermi permettere due notti. Alla colazione manca decisamente il cappuccino. Consiglio di rifoderare i cuscini del divano della sala grande.

Everything. The Patrick and Caroline were absolutely amazing hosts. A one-night stay that was a once in a lifetime experience. Just getting to see the architecture inside and out was terrific. Unfortunately, the ghost of Donald Campbell did not make his presence known in the Caithness room.

I was most excited to stay at this property and it did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived our hosts Patrick and Cecilia greeted us like family and made us feel so welcome and comfortable during our stay. The castle was like stepping back in time yet had all the modern comforts we're used to. It was the most comfortable bed of all the locations we stayed during our trip. We loved learning about the castle's history during our arrival tour. The views of the loch and mountains near the castle are absolutely breathtaking. In the evening we relaxed by the fireplace with a drink enjoying the atmosphere of the castle great room and talking to other guests. Breakfast service was wonderful with a great selection of foods provided. My omelette was cooked to order by Cecilia and was fluffy and delicious. What a special experience and we would love to return on our next trip.

Very friendly helpful staff, who went out if their way to make sure was a good stay-offered dto take photos before we left, a gesture which we appreciated greatly! Loved the historical introduction and tour on arrival. Very cool to be in a castle. stairway and main area beautiful. Beautifully restored and kept. Very comfy bed and good sleep. Good breakfast. Would highly recommend.

Bar open 8-10pm so didn't manage to make it back in time for an evening drink after our dinner reservation in nearby restaurant which we would have loved to do so worth bearing in mind or telling future guests so they are aware. Forgot to mention on check out that TV didn't work in aird room-connections failure? WiFi was weaker in top room. Didn't matter to us as only staying one night and enjoyed being in a castle so much! But I'm sure if we had said the staff would have helped.

Einfach alles - man hat sich gefühlt, als wäre man in der Zeit zurück. Alles war liebevoll eingerichtet und gepflegt, das Personal war unglaublich freundlich und die Burg sieht einfach wahnsinnig toll aus. Wir hatten ein kleineres Zimmer, das aber sehr komfortabel war und auch das Frühstück war toll.

Tolles Ambiente und sehr stilvoll mit Antiquitäten eingerichtet. Es gibt coole Himmelbetten und man fühlt sich wie ein Landadeliger des 17. Jahrhunderts. Keine Sorge: Der Komfort ist modern. Die Aufenthaltsräume (holzgetäfeltes Ess-und Kaminzimmer mit Ledersofas und Sesseln, Barzimmer) sind sehr gemütlich und strahlen Flair aus. Es gibt sogar eine Geheimgang… Das Frühstück ist erstklassig. Patrick und Cecilia sind hervorragende und engagierte Gastgeber. Wegen der wenigen Zimmer und der herzlichen Gastgeber fühlt man sich fast wie zu Hause.

Uns hat alles sehr gut gefallen und es war seinen Preis wert!

It was a fair dinkum castle with a lot of history and set away from all the hustle and bustle. It was an intamet setting.

Patrick and Cecelia are lovely hosts. They made us feel right at home. The castle is a 400-year-old structure with all the comforts of home. The breakfast was off-the-chain delicious. We enjoyed staying here for our 48th wedding anniversary. You will not regret staying at the castle!

Patrick the host and his wife Cecilia were incredible. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. We received a very warm welcome, a history of the castle and help with the bags. The accommodation is fantastic. A wonderful, spacious bedroom, bathroom and the communal dining / seating and bar area. The breakfast in the morning was excellent of very high quality ingredients and locally produced meat products. Patrick and Cecilia provide superb customer service as it should be. A skill and art that is sadly lacking in so many settings. 10/10

Stepping into a castle of several hundred years. Being greeted with the friendliest welcome outside when we parked the car. Being so few rooms the management had time for every single guest. Having a drink together with strangers in the evening, turning out to be a really nice gathering where we got to know each other over a glass. Clean rooms. Everything was thought if, like they themselves came from high quality and knew exactly what to offer. The breakfast was amazing. Local food. Fresh flowers on the table. The atmosphere was to feel and touch. The management was amazing. ❤️

They do a remarkable job of making this château a place of great luxury. There are never any problems for Patrick 🥰. Everything here is luxury, calm and voluptuous. We were amazed at the decor and Patrick gave us a very warm welcome, including sharing lots of cool’s stories about the castle… Couldn’t believe Henry the 8th stayed in the room next door (some years ago) and we particularly loved the secret passage way from our room to the great hall. Xx

What a stunning place! The castle was wonderful and cozy, not a museum, but a comfortable place to stay. Really a luxury B&B. The staff was marvellous, especially Patrick, who made our stay at the castle unforgettable. He was so friendly and helpful and had also a great sense of humour. Absolutely the best visit we have ever had! Strong recommendation!

Wifi could be improved, I wouldn’t plan on being able to use it while you're there. However, who needs WIFI when you’re in a Castle in Scotland?

So grateful for the opportunity to stay in this wonderful place and the Managers , Patrick & Cecelia were amazing and made us feel so special. Das Schloss ist traumhaft. Die Lage fantastisch und die Räume sind edel renoviert und gestaltet. Patrick ist ein hervorragender Gastgeber. Der Preis ist hoch, aber da nur wenige Zimmer vorhanden sind, müssen die Erträge für Renovationen etc. reichen.

Das ist sicher das einzige Negative. Die Dusche hatte am zweiten Morgen nur kaltes Wasser und der Frühstücksservice ebenfalls am zweiten Morgen war mangelhaft. Wir hatten z.Bsp keinen Toast erhalten bzw. auf Nachfrage erst ca 20 Minuten später. Der Preis für diese Location ist sicher nachvollziehbar. Aber dann dürfen solche Faux-pas nicht passieren..

Sehr freundlicher Empfang und sehr nettes Personal. Das Frühstück ließ keine Wünsche offen. Alles extrem sauber und stilvoll eingerichtet. Der Frühstücksraum war historisch ganz toll. Die Übernachtung in der Burg/Schloss war für uns ein außergewöhnliches, schönes Erlebnis. Vielen Dank an das tolle Team!

The location was convenient for us, we were hiking nearby mountains in the Highlands and visiting Oban. The breakfasts were a highlight, beautiful, delicious, authentic, and with several local ingredients. Multiple options for dietary restrictions. The castle has a lot of character, from the family portraits and taxidermy of the great hall to the skeleton keys for the rooms to the secret passages.

I struggle to even find one part of our stay that wasn’t to our liking. The property was easy to find with our rental car. We loved that the castle was well-preserved but modernized. We loved the staff, they were a highlight. They made the castle feel like a home. The great hall was beautiful and authentic feeling, and the Campbell family history was fascinating, right down to Black Duncan’s legacy and the bottleneck dungeon below.

The atmosphere of the place is amazing and the breakfast was really tasty. The staff was incredible and made us feel very welcome. From the little tour of the castle on arrival all the way to the unprompted offer to take a picture of us in front of the castle when we checked out. We had dinner at a nearby family restaurant followed by a lovely evening at the bar in the castle. We stayed in the Breadalbane room and the view out the window was out of this world (see pictures).

There was nothing to dislike.

It was an authentic Castle yet the beds were very comfortable and modern. We loved the Great Hall and having whiskey and wine there in the evenings after a day of exploring. The managers on staff were lovely and great hosts.

Both Patrick and Ceceilia were very welcoming on our arrival with an interesting tour of the Castle and general kindness. The room was clean and comfortable with everything we needed, including a welcoming pack tea,coffee, and biscuits. The breakfast was quality and thoroughly enjoyable It was our 40th anniversary and we couldn't have enjoyed spending it anywhere else
