Check-in online was a bit buggy and gave some technical errors. This was solved last-minute, but gave some uncertainty when hiking to them. Be aware there is no/limited mobile phone coverage, but good wifi

Good starting point for hiking, PR1 /PR1.2 and PR 11 start direct at accommodation. Thanks to Paola. We feel like at home. And the restaurant is also fantastic. We will come again

Reviewed Apr 13, 2026Super Lage und super schönes Hotel. Die Familie hat mich herzlich willkommen geheißen. Im Restaurant gegenüber kann man sehr lecker essen. Vom Hotel aus kann man gute Wanderungen machen, vor allem zu Zeiten, wo noch nicht so viele Touristen da sind. Man kann sehr ruhig schlafen und hört nachts nur das Rauschen des Baches.

What we did not really like was that we only had one sheet to share, with unwashed thicker blankets on top. But this is really common in Madeira (6 of our 8 accommodations in Madeira had this).

Communication was good and the owner kindly let us self check in which we were grateful for when we arrived in the early hours due to a delayed flight. Would have liked more pillows as there was less than one each - but I was definitely not going to ask for one at 4am! Would very happily stay here again.

Heizkörper im Zimmer, was gut war angesichts der nächtlichen Kälte und des Regenwetters
das Zimmer war winzig, man konnte sich mit 2 Koffern im Raum kaum umdrehen; Schimmel; muffiger Geruch aus dem Bad; laut - man hört alles von den Nachbarn und am Gang; fühlt sich mehr an wie ein Hostel. Checkin: man muss sich durchfragen zu den Mitarbeiter:innen, die auch das Restaurant betreiben.

Reviewed Jan 19, 2026Das Zimmer war wirklich sehr sauber, man hat sich sehr wohl gefühlt. Ja im Bad ist etwas Schimmel, leider ist das auf der Insel aber in ganz vielen Unterkünften. Wir fanden es nicht schlimm. Die Familie die diese Unterkunft betreut ist wirklich toll, sehr herzlich und sehr bemüht. Wir sind sehr spät angereist, das Restaurant hatte schon geschlossen aber sie waren noch da und wir haben noch etwas zu essen bekommen. Alle super freundlich und kümmern sich ganz toll um die Gäste. Wir hatten dann noch das Glück, dass das Restaurant während unseres Aufenthaltes den letzten Tag vor einer 2 wöchigen Sommerpause hatte und wir somit noch etwas mit den Besitzern und Angestellten gefeiert haben. Total toll, super lustig, super Gastfreundlich!

Chambres petites mais OK. Point négatif : les serviettes de bain doivent être remplacées (comment peut on encore proposer des serviettes trouées ?), c'est dommage car c'est pas non plus un gros investissement pour 3 chambres.

No real breakfast option, but the attached restaurant were accommodating.

Reviewed Dec 25, 2025Liegt für Wanderer genau auf der Route. Alles war super neu und clean, und die Dusche fantastisch und warm. Außerdem eine gut funktionierende Heizung um den Raum gemütlich warm zu machen und ein paar nasse Regensachen zu trocknen.
Der Check-In war etwas holprig, man muss dafür ins Restaurant gehen und wir haben erst nach und nach die Gemeinschaftsräume gefunden, da man sie uns nicht gezeigt hatte.

La famille qui tient cette auberge et le restaurant à coté sont extrèmement serviables. Le restaurant est simple mais remarquable . Nous avons testé le viande au champignons et le filet de sabre très bon.

Reviewed Nov 2, 2025Desde equipa 5 estrelas, à comodidade do alojamento, a Casa do Ribeiro Frio superou todas as expetativas. O quarto era pequeno mas cómodo com casa de banho individual, tudo com limpeza em dia e bem estimado. Fomos recebidas de sorriso na cara, tanto da responsável pelo alojamento como pela restante equipa que se dividia pelo restaurante vizinho (onde a comida e atendimento eram igualmente fantásticos). Em volta, a comunidade é muito pequena, sendo a região apenas visitada por turistas que procuram o descanso da cidade, landscapes de perder de vista e longos passeios pelas levadas (é de destacar a da portela). É portanto um destino a repetir! Uma dica para os visitantes: não há supermercado por perto e se quiserem aceder a algum serviço de stremio terá que ser via equipamento pessoal dado que a televisão do quarto passa apenas rádio!

Reviewed Oct 25, 2025Die Lage ist super für Wanderungen in den umliegenden Wäldern und Bergen. Für 2 Nächte war es ok und wir haben die negativen Punkte nicht reklamiert.
Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis des Appartments stimmte für uns nicht. Die Möbel waren schon sehr kaputt, was wohl auch der ständigen Luftfeuchtigkeit geschuldet ist. Es funktionierte nur eine von 3 Heizungen, die Handtücher waren verschlissen/fleckig, die Küche im Appartment hat nur eine sehr minimale Ausstattung und das Bett für die 3. Person (Couch) ist sehr unbequem.
