Great location and great staff.
Facilities are not well maintained. There is no WiFi signal on the upper bunk bed. No AC for common area.
La ubicación, en el lugar perfecto y comodo para salir sin desplazarse demasiado y también muy bien conectado. La habitación privada estaba bien.
Las instalaciones en general, hace falta manutención de la básica y necesaria para considerarse seguro.
Horrible for renting. Looks like a prison
I never stayed
The staff is super nice and helpful, especially Max, who was super attentive, always available to help, open to conversations and a kind person.
There was many issues with the hostel in a general way. There was an issue with the water supply in all San Juan and the hostel was left without water from Sunday morning until Wednesday afternoon. During this time, there was no note from the owner on how they were trying to solve the issue, no compensation for the guests, no water provided from the hostel at all. We were left there without water to shower, wash the hands, brush the teeth, flush, wash the dishes and everything else. If you needed to do something, you would have to go to the supermarket and buy water bottles and try to help yourself with that. I understand that it wasn’t the owner’s fault that we didn’t have water, since it wasn’t a general issue, but I feel like there was a lack of initiative in trying to make the situation better. Also, this is apparently a common issue in Puerto Rico, so also seems to be a lack of preparation for this kind of situation. Besides that, the WiFi was not working for most people at the hostel, including for me most of the time of my stay (I was there for 1 week and only started working, but badly, on the last final days). Overall, I wouldn’t stay again at this hostel, but especially due to the water situation and how it was treated.
The property did not look how it looked online. Do not stay here.!
Is cleanliness was not up and also everything being shared was terrible.
Nice location
Max, a individual with large earrings and about 5’7” was very intrusive in private conversations he even said there was going to be “problems” if we continued having dialogue. It was a bit out of place for a live in hostel maid. Furthermore, the water was cut off and no initiative was taken to keep the hostel functioning, the toilets where completely full and they hostel maid didn’t even consider to bring a bucket of water and flush the toilet!
The people staying were great and friendly. The dining room and kitchen were always clean .
The staff was rude. Nobody changed our trash for days. I guess the cleaning woman got annoyed with the people in the room so she stopped putting toilet paper in the bathroom of a 16 people room.
This is honestly one of the NICEST hostels I've ever been to in terms of cleanliness, design, comfort, and aesthetics. Seriously, this place went way beyond my expectations in this regard. It's also in a spot in Santurce that is far enough from the most touristy spots but still centrally located. If you want to experience San Juan for the city itself, this is a great spot.
NO ONE answered the doorbell during regular check-in hours (and apparently SEVERAL other guests had the same issue). I had to contact Booking and wait outside forever before finally being able to get in. However, once I got in, everything was smooth for the rest of my weeklong stay... EXCEPT... for one tense moment when a staff member informed me (in the MIDDLE of my reservation) that the hostel would not be able to honor my entire reservation due to an alleged error with another group's reservation. And instead of taking responsibility for the error, the staff member tried to minimize the inconvenience and costs I'd incur in finding last minute reservations. Even if the reservation error was (allegedly) the other guests' fault (as the staff member explained it), I thought it was quite unfair to stick the consequences on me. I get that I was a solo traveller and the other group was a big group, but I had reserved MONTHS in advance precisely to avoid having to find last minute accommodations. THANKFULLY, someone higher up showed up and worked out a solution in literally like 30 seconds, lol. I had to sleep on a pull out couch my last night, but I didn't mind at all since I'm an easy sleeper and had to leave early for the airport anyway. Honestly, I also just appreciated someone providing actual solutions rather than useless platitudes. OH, also the WIFI didn't work during the whole trip, but it's hard to tell whether this was more of a hostel problem or a Puerto Rico problem. TO HOSTEL MANAGEMENT: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS WONDERFUL FIX THE PROBLEM OF NO ONE OPENING THE DOOR TO GUESTS DURING YOUR ADVERTISED CHECK IN HOURS. IT SEEMS THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM FOR BASICALLY EVERYONE AND IT'S A TERRIBLE FEELING TO BE LEFT OUT IN THE STREETS. THIS IS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION AND IT'S A BAD FIRST IMPRESSION FOR BASICALLY EVERYONE.
Good ample kitchen
No desk staff was ever on duty it seemed? Just some cleaning staff. Got a lot of mosquito bites in common areas
Close to restaurants. Walking distance of beaches
No plugs by the bed, cold showers with bad water pressure, toilets barely worked, common room and terrace look better in pictures
The installation were great for a hostel, but their WiFi didn’t work, which caused work complications for me at points.
Loved the rooftop patio
Wifi was useless. Basically non-functional
Hostel was full of children. Literally 17 children. Unsure if this was a school trip but certainly not adults only.
I liked how it felt homely. I got to connect with other guests who were kind and adventurous too. The staff were very quick and efficient and the small language barrier didn’t alter their service. They were great, can’t wait for my next visit.
Friendly staff cool people
Good stay
I liked that I felt safe coming in and out. I liked the rooftop. Also, the bed wasn’t uncomfortable. I liked the single bathrooms sink.
I didn’t like the fact that they had growing mold in the sealing of the single bathroom and not much ventilation.
I have a nice experience in this place, - and I’m planning to return. Thanks!
Location is good, closer to the beach and bus stop right infront which will take you to the airport. Beautiful interior - lot of place to chill. Nice kitchen & terrace. Beds were comfortable, plenty of bathrooms. Restaurants around the hostel
Entrance is weird, no sign of the hostel. Communication is not so great, check in after 6pm is self check in but they don't tell you that. I have US number so I called them and they send me sms for directions for self check in, so there is no staff after 6pm. Wifi doesn't work, no hot showers, it's ok for 1 night or two!
Nice
Shower was running out of warm water, no charging option in the bed, wifi didn’t work, hard to find (no sign in front of the hostel)
Superb
The common space is cozy and spacious. There are enough of shower rooms at the property. They have nice roof top.
The windows in the room we've slept were very dirty. The host didn't walk us around the property, she just gave us a key and showed our beds.
I liked the location. It was ideal to get from the airport and back for my short stay. I will be back when I stop through again.
I had a top bunk on both dates and I had late arrival times. It felt weird waking others up to get up there.
To be honest the only nice thing about this place is the decor and style, and the rooftop. And I really liked the girls in my room but that's completely put of control of this hostel.
Absolutely not worth the money. I get that this hostel is maybe one of the cheapest in San Juan, but the value you get is absolutely not worth it. NEGATIVES: 1. As a start, the staff helpfulness is completely non existent. When asked questions they just seem to not know or be able to help with anything, prior and during the stay. 2. On top of that, check in stops at (4pm?!) after which it's self check in. Apparently they send you instructions for that, which of course they failed to do with me. So I was standing in front of the building, at 10 pm, after a long flight, alone on the street at night, without internet, not being able to access. Thank God a man lend me his phone so I could call but this was completely unacceptable. 3. A girl in the hostel had bedbugs, which is already diagusting enough, but their solution was to move her same mattress to another room. Coming back to my point of absolutely cluelessness and helplessness. 4. The hostel is extremely noisy, you can hear the people outside like they're in the room. I was lucky that I stayed during the week and the people in my female dorm were super respectful but otherwise it would have been a terrible sleep. Only last night (thursday) people were loudly talking outside the room for which I had to ask to be quiet, to my surprise it was the volunteer herself. Leading by example... 5. The Wifi didn't work for the entirety of my stay, who knows when that's gonna work. Their excuse: we have so many people it crashed. Well, there's my solution: get proper wifi. Some hospitality basics: WiFi is a must and not a nice-to-have. 6. Beds are comfy but they only provide a super thing blanket (to call it somehow) and that's it.
Great little hostel right in the centre of San Juan. There was great facilities and well kept
The WiFi didn’t work the whole trip so don’t rely on it. There was also a rooftop bar which was closed the whole time and seems like it’s passed its prime so it needs a bit of renovation.
I tried to cancel my reservation and they hang out on the phone
Es comodo ,encantador ,estoy listo para regresar ,tiene la playa, serca ,la placita ,los buses,es accesible
When I left I forgot my AirPods on my bed. So far it’s all my fault. However, this is where it gets bad on Santurcia’s side. When I realized I didn’t have my AirPods, I tried to reach someone at the property. After many attempts and a few “I’m not there but I will ask”, somebody told me that the person in charge of setting up the room found my Pods. Instead of reaching me (they had my number, email, copy of passport; and rooms and beds are pre-assigned), they just left the Pods in a random spot until someone took them. I finally talked to the hostel’s owner. Her answer: “It isn’t our problem” Stay away from this place. They only care about your money
Great place, just a little hard to find it.
Location and atmosphere. Your staff from 3/1-3/2 were pleasant, kind, and very helpful. Jade (Jada??) was wonderful and put up with my sleep deprived questions. Bless her.👍🏼💐🌞
I was on the top bunk in the 4 woman room. I had trouble getting in and out of bed - even with an additional ladder! I should have asked about a lower bunk.😔
Wonderful location
Quiet place, at an accessible location in Santurce.
We were unable to adjust the AC & we were freezing in the middle of the night.
Prime location. Walking distance from everything.
Addition to property answer! - That is a lie about room looks like on a pictures- u added them after ma checked in and complained -maybe u have someone… but where r they?!?!? - i left after 1st night! I have a reservation as evidence of place i stayed( problem they i had to come back to keep looking to someone to return a key) - thank u for agreeing that your place is dangerous with drinking mid age guys all over!
I want to start at the beginning. On the first day I arrived at the hostel to pay because my card was not accepted by the system (American card, Visa circuit, which I used without problems during the whole trip). At the reception the cash register was not working and I could not pay. I tried to go back the next day to pay the bill, but since I had already booked excursions for the holiday and the reception hours were 10:30 to 16:00, it was not possible. On the third day I ask if they have any other payment options and they tell me no. The only option was to pay in cash, so I ask for a discount for several facilities that were marked on their website but were not actually available. There was also mold everywhere in the bathroom, including the picture above the toilet. On the third day, my only bathingsuit of the vacation is stolen, and I write a letter to the other guests to get it back (I ask the front desk to check the cameras beforehand, but I get no response). I am accused of writing a threatening letter and lying about the stolen bathingsuit (ridiculous in that I had to buy another costume because mine was gone). I end up with the "professional" message from the receptionist, who tells my mother to go shit in her language, as if I could not understand. Outside of professionalism, they will never see me again.
Very nice! Looks exactly like the photos. Check in was a breeze and the staff was wonderful.
Great location in Santurce Our private room was pretty good Shared areas are great, especially the roof top terrasse Overall I would book again
Pretty noisy - people aren’t mindful of the noise at night. Wifi didn’t work the entire time we were there or would only work in one spot of the shared living room. It was disappointing considering that hé high score for wifi on booking We didn’t see any staff the whole time we were there
- clean - close to bus stops, supermarket and cafes - nice terrace - big kitchen - lockers, locked doors
- staff with "I do not care" attitude - no wifi - bed capsules with no light or shelves - cramped dorms, no space, like a prison - low water pressure - cold or too hot shower
The hostel looked beautiful. I stayed in the 4 women bedroom and we had our own private bathroom we all shared. One wall was painted a dark green which I liked all of the decorative design. I would get back from the beach around 2-3pm and always saw the nice girl with short black hair cleaning and she did a great job.
The only con like most hostels is the noise. That room was right next to the kitchen where there was a swing door that you could hear open and close. The door in the room also closed loudly. Also wish they had the curtains on the beds so it would be more private
After 8 trips to PR, I can assure you that this hostel is the best. Its so clean and quiet, you really feel like home. The bathrooms were so clean, and the beds are so comfortable. Its in a walking distance to ocean park and la placita de Santurce. Plenty of good restaurants around. I checked it late so the staff were very professional in guiding me how to do a self check-in. The terrace was super nice too, you can tan and chill.
The wifi wasn't so stable
Cleanness and great kitchen
Mosquitos are everywhere in the kitchen, get a bug spray
The people here are super friendly. Location is like 15min walk to the beach, bus stops are nearby so it’s easy to explore San Juan. There’s a nice rooftop upstairs. I always enjoyed my meals when I was there.
There’s no curtain at the beds. No place to hang your clothes or towel. No laundry room. No hot water and the water pressure is awful…it’s a bit difficult to take a shower especially the ac in the room is strong. Mosquitoes in the kitchen.
Very friendly host. Provided some good recommendations for food in the area.
WiFi was down, the aircon was broken and the beds were very creaky so whenever anyone moved it woke you up.
No individual lamps in the bed bunks, just one big very bright lamp in the ceiling. Zero possibility to put a sheet or anything to cover the bed bunk. No windows in the room, felt a bit claustrophobic. Nothing extra with the hostel. Just felt like a storage.
Close to the subway
Staff
- plenty of restrooms and bathroom - bathrooms, kitchen, beds, common spaces are very clean and spacious - perfect location
Walking distance to food was good
Had a hard time finding the property with google maps, as it’s kinda hidden with just a blank green door with a door bell camera. 10min walk from the beach and great restaurants and bars, overall very good, not disappointed, at night there is lots of honking and you can hear everything. You can even hear a conversation from the ground to the second floor where the rooms are.
It had potential, nice common area and kitchen. All female dorm was nice.
The WiFi didn't work and when it did it was barely good enough to check my work email. The kitchen had ants, the only staff member I saw was clearly not local and couldn't give a crap about helping. The main 16-person dorm was right next to a super loud street.
Great value
The hostel is good and very close to the airport but the owner puts strict rules but when it comes to delivering what the hostel promises, then its a whole different story! -I had no WiFi during my stay and texted him; he texted back but never solved the issue or followed up on me. -I was cold and requested another blanket they said there was a $5 charge WTH -the bed only have a fitted sheet and they do not provide a top sheet like any normal place. - I asked if I could check out and take a quick shower before heading to the airport in the afternoon, he replied it would cost me $20. - I haven’t seen any real employee there. Only Erica that’s a volunteer- and she was really nice. - bathroom wasn’t cleaned while I stayed there and someone 💩💩💩 and never flushed so I had to get clorox and disinfect the girls bathroom myself. - after 4pm is a self check in process I will be coming back to Puerto Rico but definitely staying somewhere else that I feel more comfortable and taken care of. $55 a night is double the price I usually pay for shared rooms in a hostel. I do not recommend renting a car if you are staying in old San Juan. It’s impossible to find parking and the traffic jam is baaad
I had to leave as soon as I entered the building. Girls room very dirty. The employee tried to scammed me, she tried to charge me with $47 saying Expedia payment didn’t went thru. The Expedia $ goes to the owner and they wanted $47 for themselves.
Modern design. Central location. People are nice
Calls good
Bed bugs.
I stayed in the 16-bed room at Santurcia Hostel and had a mostly positive experience. The hostel is in a great location, close to restaurants and bars. The shared bathrooms are generally clean. Staff is friendly.Overall, it's a good budget option for social travelers.
Nothing to say for the quality / price . It’s perfect
Had AC, convenient location with restaurants nearby, lockers, showers, and nice common rooms and terrace!
The property was really clean and well managed. It’s located in a great location surrounded by many restaurants, gym and supermarket near by. A 15 minute walk to the beach or a 5 min bus ride. The nightlife is also nearby which I would highly suggest.
Due to the beach goers not properly cleaning of their beachwear unfortunately their is a small beach mite problem. Besides that you do receive a very clean bed.
very friendly for solo traveleres, very clean, definitely worth visiting!! loved it
It was very cold during the night I needed to pay to get another blanket and it still didnt help (i got cold) if you're sensitive to cold you should bring long clothes.
