We had an amazing stay at the Western House B&B Kurow! The hosts were lovely and welcoming, they had the heater on in our room for us, as we got there late so it was lovely to go into a warm room. Breakfast was so good, fresh farm eggs, bacon, fresh home made bread, tea coffee etc.
Nothing, everything was amazing.
awesome staying in such an historic house and very easy to access and convenient for teh trip I had.
Its was all great!
Excellent vibe and lovely caring hosts who had the fire going Was so very warm in winter conditions.
Couldn’t fault a thing.
It was a lovely, cosy stay. The room was very tidy and had everything we needed. We, also, loved the animals, especially the baby chickens! Lynda and John were super lovely, and they also made a delicious breakfast before we headed off. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, there :).

Lynda was so informative and so lovely and we felt like king add queens staying in a heritage home
Nothing at all, everything was amazing
Friendly hosts and lovely breakfast! Stayed in the cabin and very cosy.
Could have been a bit cleaner, but cosy and great value for money.
Outstanding atmosphere and service. Good food and they were able to accommodate food restrictions. Warm and comfortable. Very hospitable and friendly.
The couple who own it were very responsive and accepted our request with short notice. It’s was a good location and the history of the home was very interesting.
It is a historic home so though there was a lovely fire in the fireplace it was a bit cold downstairs. The heaters in the bedroom were good and there were plenty of blankets so we slept nice and cosy.
John had a log fire burning when we arrived in the late afternoon in what is an historic home. The cooked breakfast (with cereal option) was of 'hotel' standard. Plenty of choices. Very friendly hosts. We were anle to check out earli withour inconvenience.
Everything was great but travellers who have difficulties with stairs need to be advised that the bedrooms are upstairs and require quite a climb on a narrow staircase. John offered to carry our bags, so access was not a problem for us.
The farmyard setting and the owners looked after us well. Very nice evening meal and breakfast.
It was a lovely stay, so not much not to like.
A very homely place hospitality excellent breakfast great a very good stay
Great host, super breakfast, wonderful views.
Location
4pm check-in, everything in the 'studio w. patio' was tatty, old, mismatched, ugly and dirty. It all looked like stuff from the Op-shop. Hardly any food left at 8:30 breakfast. Table was laden with dirty dishes, but no bread and no staff to ask. It's been the worst place we've ever stayed in New Zealand!
A comfy overnight stay in an 1870's farmhouse. Clean and spacious, gracious and friendly hosts. We really enjoyed staying on a rural property, it felt just like home. Breakfast was generous and delicious, with collegial company chatting with the other guests. We booked the cottage at the back of the house, great for a bit of privacy. On site parking and about 10 minutes out of town for dinner.
Hotter shower water.
Our hosts were excellent and very informative. Our room had beautiful views and was very quiet. Breakfast was a feast.
Very accommodating hosts, gave us an early morning breakfast and got up to a fire going which was lovely. Right on the A2O bike trail so very handy for the biker.
everything was top notch
Very friendly welcome from the owner with scones, tea and with helpful tips. The room was adorable with an adjoining bathroom. When we returned to our lodging after dinner, the fireplace was lit for us. In the morning the table in the dining room was set and a very good breakfast was prepared. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you very much!

Very nice house, well maintained property. John and Lynda are very friendly and professional. The room was excellent condition when we arrived. There were chooks around the property which John allowed us to feed :) Breakfast was excellent!
Comfortable studio room with outside area. Spacious and well equipped. Loved the poultry and had a visit from a very friendly cat.
Some eggs with breakfast would have been nice. Otherwise it was a really good stay.
Plenty to choose from. All well laid out
Quirky, cosy and cute. We stayed in the little studio out the back. Private bathroom and tea and coffee facilities. Loved the setting, enjoyed watching all the chooks roaming around.
The hostsbwere delightful, along with the animals. It was the last night of our trip, and this was a great place to rest, have a great breakfast, and get on our way again
The rooster at 4am. But animals... they are great
Very homely, very good breakfast, great view, excellent hosts
Netter Mann, der uns empfangen hat. Klein, süß und schnuckelig. Super Frühstück.
Nichts.
The owners were lovely. They went above and beyond setting up their bbq for us to use and some dishes. Setting fire in lounge room was an added bonus.
Nothing
Owner drove us to the pub
Little bit too far from town
The location suited our needs. Was very peaceful. Breakfast good, would have liked some other option like baked beans.
There wasn't a lot to dis-like.
Fine for the night.
Only seen the owner when we arrived. Our on suite was across the landing from our room.. Everything was a bit dated and very ecleptic . Breakfast was provided and it was fine. Previous guests dishes were not cleared and that's not good when there is only one large table. Not a place I would visit again.
As the title says, the breakfast was extraordinary, very sweetly presented with a large selection. Furthermore, the host was very welcoming even though we arrived pretty late. The room itself was clean and comfortable.
It's a bit outdated, but this makes it charming! Nothing negative!
Friendly host , clean bathroom
Breakfast ..option for hot was just a sausage not even any tomato sauce .. nothing else
Lovely hosts, amazing old house, comfy room and great shower. Loved looking out of the window at the stars during the night Fantastic breakfast!!
Traffic noise..apparently dairy farm workers and stock truck drivers start early! Not the hosts fault but a little annoying...
Linda and John were wonderful hosts, very knowledgable about the history of the heritage home and the area. Accommodation was very comfortable, shower was hot, yummy fresh eggs for breakfast and great views across the paddocks to nearby hills. Pub nearby for a meal.
Stairs were steep but to be expected in a period home.
Convenient location
Poorly positioned PowerPoint, awkward TV location
A lovely traditional property
Chickens are a little noisy very early
Perfect location, mountains and river

Very well located for what we wanted, quaint historic house with lots of character & history. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. Delicious cooked breakfast, with home made bread and pancakes. Shower in the annex was fantastic! Kurow is a bit off the beaten track but the town is charming and it’s a great area to explore the less touristy side of NZ
We were in the separate annex which was charming but a bit dated, the bed was a small double which for us was a bit small so I used the separate single bed…. We loved the chickens & ducks but if you are not a fan then this wouldn’t be the place for you!!
John and Lynda were amazing and made it feel like leaving in a family home rather than a B&B. The property is cool and nicely decorated.
Our room was supposed to have a private bathroom. But the bathroom (which was dedicated to us and was private), was accross the hall and not en suite.
Pleasant room in a lovely old house.
The decor is all a bit dated and tired. It could do with a refresh.
Lovely kind hosts and staff, comfy bed, great breakfast
The first night was colder weather and at first the bed was a little chilly - electric blanket for winter might be a good idea.
Warm friendly reception from hosts. Spacious yet cosy accommodation which was clean and finished off with a lovely breakfast. Lovely rural location to see the stars at night and see the birds and baby chicks by day.
Hard to fault.
Friendly accommodating staff, comfy bed, delicious and hearty breakfast. Loads of fun activities for the kids.
Very big breakfast with lots on offer. It was available at a time requested.
A surprisingly warm welcome, with a comforting log fire. Our hosts were very friendly but also let us get on with things. A historic place to stay as it was a staging post for the miners. There are chickens running around in the garden, and baby chicks. A lovely view of mountains all around. Breakfast was a lovely social event with the other 5 guests, all around one table. A real feeling of being invited into someone's home.
My partner found the cockerels a little loud in the early morning. I personally love the sound!
Superb character B&B with very helpful, friendly hosts who even gave us a lift to the local pub to eat in the evening and made up an ice pack for my son who had a bad knee from cycling.
Sehr sehr freundliche Menschen dort.
Very quiet and easy to find.
Friendly hosts. Loved the chickens, maybe the cockerel less so! Convenient for a visit to the River-T winery which we thoroughly recommend.
Road noise in the room.
Vraiment adorable. Encore merci 😍
Rien
John and Linda are very friendly and welcoming. Very easy to chat with and made us feel at home straight away. The breakfast was absolutely lovely. Farm fresh and had the lot 😋👍
Good breakfast
Location
Very nice people. They prepared an excellent vegetarian meal and a great breakfast. we were very happy to stay here.
Nothing
Loved the house and surrounding gardens with the hooks and there babies. John and his lovely wife were very pleasant and very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was lovely.
Nothing we did not like
Obsługa przemiła, jajecznica na śniadanie i ogolnie śniadanie
Brak
All! … From arriving to departure!
Quirky house with lots of interesting pictures and furniture. Comfortable beds with nice en suite.
Very near the main road so traffic noise a bit annoying. Chickens in the garden woke up early.
Arrived on bike whilst doing the A2O. It was a great choice, breakfast was fantastic and John was a great host. Enjoyed his humour.
We stayed in the small cottage at the rear of the home. Very clean and cosy. Comfortable bed. Great place for us cycling the Alps to Ocean. Friendly welcome from the hosts, chickens and ducks. Lovely gardens and mountain views. Right by the cycle track. Great brekkie with bacon, eggs, tomatoes, asparagus, cereal, bread etc.

One of those special boutique accommodations with so much history, great for a group riding the Alps 2 Ocean trail, breakfast selection was great awesome guests.
This was right on the bike trail so very convenient. Host was really welcoming on arrival. We loved being in such a historic homestead set in beautiful grounds and being free to wander around. We appreciated the info on the history of the place, through photos displayed, folders and the host, John, being very informative. A good breakfast was set out with cereal, fruit, toast, eggs, sausage, etc.
4pm is later than most places for check in but it was clear before we booked and we understood and filled in time in the lovely little village of Kurow.
Small but comfortable family run guest house. Excellent hospitality.
Comfortable stay, everything we needed & enjoyed all the history. Thanku
The owners were lovely and hospitable! The place was cute and quaint, and the breakfast the hosts provided was AMAZING. Loved our stay here.
Location just ut of town so quiet even on a main road. Friendly and knowledgeable hosts, John is a rare gem, quietly hilarious. Bubbly Linda popped in and out. The house has charm and is well appointed. Generous tasty breakfast .
Nothing to note
We rode in on our A2O trip in the pouring rain to a roaring fire, a basket full of Lego put out for the kids and washing baskets at the ready for our wet gear. The 1860’s house and gardens are incredibly charming and full of old photos and beautiful old furniture. This is an unmissable stop on the A2O. Breakfast in the dinning room with home made bread and farm eggs was a highlight. Hospitality here is delightfully old fashioned. We all adored this place.
Beautiful historic house situated only a couple of kilometres from the centre of town. Lovely hospitable and friendly hosts. Very clean room and bathroom. We had a delicious breakfast served in the morning and tea and coffee was available any time including being available in the room. Despite being mid August, a warm fire in the lounge room and heaters in the bedroom made our stay very comfortable. A great stop on the Alps2Ocean trail. Highly recommend. Thank you John and Lynda for a delightful stay.
Nothing. Everything was great.
