I parked in the centre of Buxton and walked to the crescent. There was only me there so I got a one to one with the volunteer. She was great, very knowledgeable. There’s lots of info in the rooms. I found the visitors section really interesting. At the end you go across to the visitors centre and get a bottle of buxton water. Can recommend.
Nice hotel, stayed in room 113, not much outlook through the window. Clean and comfortable but it's above the public washrooms and we heard the dryers constantly so not much sleep. The bedside telephone starting a reboot at 7.30 with lights flashing and ringing. Yes we would stay again but not in this room, lucky for us we were only staying one night for a relaxing time but if needed prior to work I think you maybe tired all day. Spa nice, needs a little TLC in certain areas. I would not say it's a five star hotel.
Not a great start. We couldn't find our room as it was room 213 and was located in a stairwell and not clearly sign posted. Upon finding the room the keys had not been activated to allow entry and therefore we had to make a trip back down to reception to have this resolved. Unfortunately this room was not only in a stairwell but it was next to a lift which we could hear throughout the night. The footwear available for use in the spa facilities also leaves a lot to be desired. They were used and therefore very unhygienic. The concierge car park arrangements makes an overnight stay very expensive. During check-out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed our stay and if everything had been ok for us. I wonder why!
Inept and insufficient reception staff meant it took 20 minutes to check in. Room was relatively small given the price and had machinery outside making a noise all night long. Radio did not work properly. It took 20 minutes and three requests to get tea & coffee at breakfast. The spa is shining light of this hotel and it remains good, but there is evidence maintenance budgets have been cut - tiles fallen off in the steam room is not a good look. And to add symmetry it took 20 minutes to get our car when we wanted to leave (£30 for one day's concierge parking!). Overall very poor value.
We have visited this hotel a number of times and it has always been 5 *. On a recent visit it fell short of this level with simple customer requests proving problematic. However with new management I'm sure the hotel will return to 5 *. Looking forward to the next visit.
Everything was fantastic, incredible spa facilities and a great location! The only downside would be it was a bit on the pricey side!
Another exceptional visit to Buxton Crescent. A fantastic place to stay for total relaxation. Reception staff are great, there was a small issue with my booking but this was resolved quickly and with professionalism. Room was amazing, great view of the gardens opposite. Spa itself is large with multiple pools, not too busy which is perfect. I also had a hot stone massage which was incredible!
Excellent service lovely spa. Doesn't include salt room. Attic room was lovely. Would stay again. Would recommend. Spa really different to most others.
We love this hotel, the town and the spa. This is our 2nd visit and it was just as lovely as the first visit. Staff were all friendly warm and attentive, although there did always seem to be an excessive amount of staff on at all times. I think I counted 8 members of staff at breakfast and service was still a bit disjointed, as they all came round to do their own jobs rather than 1 person looking after a few tables. Breakfast choice and quality were amazing but could improve the black pudding. We used the valet parking service again which was great. I disappointingly heard that champneys are taking over this hotel and spa and I do hope they don’t ruin it :(
We recently stayed at the Buxton Crescent Hotel and were left extremely disappointed. I booked a Crescent Room expecting a luxury experience, but what I got was far from five-star standards. Naively as we booked a crescent room, I thought we’d have a nice view, but our room was situated at the back of the building (I think you’d have to book a superior room for a nice view, which is fair enough but wish we knew this). Worst part was that we were very close to the spa and outdoor pool, which was quite noisy. On the first morning we were woken up by the sound of recycling bins being emptied for the bars outside, not exactly the peaceful stay I’d hoped for. When I complained and asked to be moved, I was told no other rooms were available and offered no alternatives. Staff at reception were short and unfriendly at this point, despite us being polite about it. We were also visiting for a special birthday trip, and had told reception this prior to visiting. We’re told the room would be decorated with macaroons left out - absolutely nothing in the room on check in which was disappointing. The room itself was in a poor state, quite a lot of black mould in the bathroom, noticeable dust throughout, marks all over the walls, and no proper coffee machine - just instant coffee and a kettle. Definitely not what I’d expect for the price or rating. The rooms felt run-down and neglected, which is shocking given the reputation of this hotel. The spa was just okay – we had to change in our room due to lack of facilities, and while the outdoor pool was the highlight, the indoor spa areas were dirty with mould visible in some of the pools. The relaxation beds also looked like they hadn’t been cleaned properly, and didn’t really want to relax there. Breakfast was mediocre on the first day, but the second morning was a disaster. The hot water system was broken, so we couldn’t get tea or coffee. Even after changing our order and asking three times, nothing ever arrived. The staff seemed new and untrained – polite and friendly but completely chaotic and unprepared. The reception staff really let the hotel down. They were especially disappointing: no warmth, no professionalism, didn’t ask how the stay was when checking out, and didn’t even offer help with bags or even offer to hold the door whilst we struggled with our bags. For a five-star hotel, this is unacceptable. Overall, this was a below-average experience. I wouldn’t usually leave a bad review, instead choosing to see the positive in places but I really think this place was a let down, more like a bad four-star hotel at best (actually the four-star hotel that we stayed in the night before was far, far superior). I won’t be returning and can’t recommend it.
We stayed overnight for a theatre trip. Hotel is beautiful, along with the rooms. One of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in. We arrived late Friday afternoon in time for a glass of Prosecco at check in which was a great. Staff are friendly and helpful. Spa is great. Bar is great, food is great. Absolutely nothing to dislike about this hotel.
A whole bunch of meh Had a lovely walk over a bunch of floorboards being ripped up by workmen in the spa pool area whilst walking back to the room.. thank God I was in a robe. (“Youre alright mate just step over that..”) Golem like creature working/frequenting the spa, trying to look busy whilst attempting to chat up female members of staff. But will be damned if you stay a second too long in the spa, bless him. A rain cloud of stuffy sarcastic misery working in the spa reception, seems to have forgotten how to chat politely to customers and/or say “thank you” Lots of other staff who seemingly have no idea what theyre doing, are terrified a customer will speak to them, and worst of all, dont know how to make coffee… but will attempt to make coffee… tremendously sad. Other than that, it was lovely(!), albeit a tad expensive for endless weird service. Building is pretty and the Christmas stuff inside looks darn good.
Fabulous afternoon tea at the Buxton Crescent served by the wonderful Anne whose service was very attentive and efficient. She was very friendly with great attention to detail and nothing was too much trouble.
The room was so comfortable and looked amazing. We enjoyed a relaxing morning in the spa. The roof top pool was a highlight. Staff were friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was very nice.
The best Hotel and Spar I have ever visited! The Hotel staff were an absolute pleasure. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was fantastic. The building was amazing. Extremely clean. First class on all fronts. Thank you to all the staff and well done. We will be back for sure.
A very mixed review. Hotel was lovely and the food was nice but the spa experience was very poor. We booked treatments, with the intention of having lunch before spending the afternoon in using the spa facilities. My friend had travelled up from Essex as I had spoken so highly from my previous visits. We were told we could sit in the spa cafe for lunch but once we had finished our treatments we were told we had to get dressed and find somewhere else to eat as there had been walk ins. Which then resulted in ruined clothes due to the oil used. This is not a cheap experience but the service in the spa is exceedingly poor and started a shared birthday weekend off to an incredibly poor start.
We stayed for one night, selected for the Spa facilities. Loved everything about this hotel. Reception staff were warm and welcoming, with a glass of Prosecco on arrival and our bags whisked up to our room. The hotel is in a beautiful old building and the decor reflects that. Our room was at the ‘back’, however it was warm and spacious, the high ceilings are a personal favourite. The room was spotless. The bed very comfortable and the linen and towels a good quality. With both a bath and large walk-in shower, the bathroom was clean and again spacious. The breakfast was delicious, served on heated plates which was a nice touch. The young staff couldn’t do enough to make our breakfast comfortable. The spa was fabulous. It was clean and had architectural features (loved the warm relax, heated beds!). The rooftop pool was not that busy, given it was a full hotel and a Saturday night. Thoroughly enjoy and will return.
Excellent stay, good value for money, centrally placed, easy parking nearby, very comfortable room, quality bedding and stylish decor, fabulous spa facilities, and a great breakfast !
Amazing experience at the hotel. Beautiful bedroom, one of the best nights sleep I’ve had, the bed was so comfy. Spa facilities are so nice, lots of different experiences with rooftop pool. Really enjoyed the bar and public areas, a hotel that has charm and character and feels in every way a very special place.
From the beginning everything was friendly, professional and efficient. The staff in every department are some of the best we’ve encountered anywhere for a long time. The evening meal was outstanding and breakfast was a delight. I’m not going to mention cost because it’s irrelevant. We’ve stayed in many 5 star hotels all over the world and often seen a significant disconnect between the cost and value for money, however, this experience was extremely good value for money. Thank you and well done to all, we would highly recommend a stay at the Crescent and we can’t wait to go back.
We have been a few times this year to this hotel. The quality and cleanliness of the rooms are a credit to the Management Team. The Breakfast,Lunch, Dinner and Afternoon tea choice of Menu’s have never disappointed us. A Bonus when all the staff are welcoming and friendly. Even bigger Bonus when on arrival we were treated to a glass of champagne. I have been to a few Spa’s up and down the country but the Crescent Spa is the most luxurious and well efficiently run. I assume this is also down to the management. I do hope the hotel will always be the same as we would recommend it to both Family and Friends. We will certainly go again. Pauline & David.
The situation was fantastic and the spa was great, especially the inside/outside pool. Enjoyed the meals but breakfast service was poor due to understaffing. Room was poorly designed - desk surface minute and a sad look of the furnishings. Reception was terrible but check-out went smoothly except an error in the bill.
Fantastic hotel and restful spa facilities. Attentive but unobtrusive staff. Beautiful building which every time you step outside , someone is taking a photo of it. Highly recommended
Fine for a 4-star hotel but nowhere near 5-star. Overall, seems like a great hotel taken over by somebody cutting corners. Poor management. Pro: Good dinner food quality. Attractive rooms. Great building. Spa is really quite excellent. Con: service, service, and service. Staff are hard working but poor management and lack of enough staff shows. Clearly cutting corners. Rooms: beds *usually* made but towels left on floor. Cheap shampoo & soap (or seriously watered down). No place to put my razor in shower area (was given disabled room since wanted twin beds - surely disabled people shave?) No turn-down service which, while maybe silly, is standard in a 5-star hotel. Breakfast: long waits, missed items. Sometimes arrived cold. Juices all budget fare from concentrate. I hate bad OJ - it was undrinkable. Dinner: Nearly an hour wait for dinner to arrive even when not too busy. Bar: very limited wine list. Basic cocktails. Staff: Most staff good/hard working but not enough. Some poorly trained.
I had a lovely stay with my sister. Everything was exactly as I’d have wanted it. Lovely spa and great food and company. Thank you to all the staff . Buxton and the surrounding area looks lovely in autumn. Looking forward to the next time 😁
Excellent hotel, with great facilities and well located for exploring the Peak District. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hot breakfasts were very good too. The spa facilities were lovely and it was a treat to experience three different types of sauna. The crescent room was a good size with a decent bathroom with both shower and separate bath. Shops and restaurants were very close by. Although most restaurants closed by 9 pm
Excellent! Faultless! All public areas and our room were spotless. Very comfortable beds with lovely linen and towels. Bathroom was gleaming. Compliments to the cleaning staff who keep the rooms and bathrooms immaculate. Great tea/coffee/biscuit tray. Delicious breakfast next morning with beautiful fruit salad followed by best quality bacon and perfect poached eggs. Spa facilities were first class. Can’t wait to go again.
My wife and I booked a booking.com 'Queen Room' at the hotel for 2 nights (16/17 October) with breakfast - Room 403. Registered with reception and was directed to a 4th flr room. The was an attic room smaller than my home bedroom. Small double bed. Very little flr space. We were gutted. It was pokey. It wad dark. It had a small window that was covered roof architecture so blocking any view and affecting the light. It was poor. The shower had mould in the usual places you would expect to see it. We spoke with reception. We pointed out we should have had a queen rm. They explained this was not room title they offered. We had to accept our room. It was apparent booking. Com and the hotel are allowing misleading room adverts. I thought a queen room would be a step up from a VERY basic starter room. Spa was lovely. Drinks - we were paying £17+ for 2 wines. Breakfast average. Reception staff unsympathetic. Rest of staff very pleasant.
A fantastic hotel located in the peaks and dog friendly which was perfect for us. Lovely breakfast with so much choice, lovely juices, yoghurts and pastries - with fresh coffee to. The rooms are lovely, we couldn’t hear anyone else which is nice when you’re wanting to relax. All the staff were lovely and quick to help when required. The Spa was absolutely amazing and we used it everyday after a long walk! We plan to return again with friends and their dog! The only things we noted, which aren’t criticisms but more for improving: Phones in the spa. There were several people just constantly filming whilst we were using the spa and we found that it took away the relaxation aspect of our stay as we were trying to avoid people’s social media. It’s one of the best spa’s we’ve been to, but as a suggestion I think making people put their phones away for a couple of hours would make it nicer! Bath Thermal spa do it with little lock cases. Secondary, at breakfast the system seemed to be slightly disorganised. You’d get shown to a seat and offered tea and coffee which was lovely but then we waited for roughly 30 minutes before having a breakfast order taken - on both mornings. The first morning we had the dog in the lounge and unfortunately we had been forgotten about. We had to go back to the main dining room and ask for someone to come take our order. On the second morning we dined without the dog, shown straight to a table and offered tea & coffee but then waited for 25 minutes for a breakfast order. Perhaps a better method would be ask for tea and coffee, then once it is brought take the order then? The staff were all lovely and were quite busy for a Monday/Tuesday service , it would be interesting to see during extremely peak times how it runs.
The hotel looks very impressive on arrival and set in a beautiful location. Parking was easy on a nearby street. Warm and welcoming staff on arrival and the room was cosy, clean and comfortable with a large bathroom with walk in shower and a bath. It faced the rear of the building so the view wasn’t very exciting and the air conditioning units were a little noisy meaning the window had to be shut. Good air conditioning though. The spa was fantastic and we spent a good 2-3 hours relaxing in there. It was hard finding our way around from the 3rd floor far side of the hotel and a bit maze like. More signs would have been helpful. At one point we couldn’t find our way through and ended up in a kitchen! The dining room was lovely and we had a fabulous breakfast. All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely return.
This was our second stay at Buxton Crescent and it was even better than the first. The Spa treatments are the most varied I have seen & the Spa itself is is the most superior I have been to. The food in the hotel is excellent, whether it was breakfast or evening meal. It is all topped off by the hotel being well positioned for the theatre, park and shopping
Excellent stay. Well worthy of 5 star rating
Loved this hotel and spa
I booked a 1 night stay with full use of the Spa facilities & Swedish back massage for my partner & me. This was a birthday surprise spa break for the other half, & both spa & hotel exceeded my expectations. The hotel went above & beyond by playing a birthday video on the tv in the room, happy birthday greeting decorated plate with a small biscuit & a signed birthday card wishing him a happy birthday & an enjoyable stay. That was such a nice touch, thank you so much for making it extra special. The building inside & out is absolutely stunning, & the food is to die for. The Spa also was very relaxing and we had a great massage. Staff very attentive & friendly. Highly recommend & we will definitely return. Many Thanks.
lovely comfortable hotel, breakfast was great, masses of choice. would definitely recommend.
Spa brilliant
The hotel is located in the centre of Buxton so great for exploring and plenty of restaurant options nearby. There is no parking available at this hotel and the nearby locations were not clear on the booking confirmation, was quite confusing navigating the one way systems on a busy weekend trying to find parking. We ended up parking on the main road hill for free. The spa has some really lovely parts but unfortunately not enough loungers and relaxation areas for the number of guests. The outdoor pool was quite cold so we couldn’t stay in there very long. The relaxation pool and thermal suite (saunas, steam etc) were beautiful though. Thermal pool area was too busy and noisy. We stayed in an attic room and the bedroom was spacious enough and bed comfy. Unfortunately the bathroom wasn’t up to standard for the price we paid, one of the robes/ flip flops was dirty and hadn’t been replaced from previous guest and the shower plug hole was blocked. This could be a beautiful hotel but currently I think the price point is too high. If you get this around £200 or less per night then it is worth it.
staff are very kind and helpful.Rooms are extremely clean. Building and the area beautiful, Definitely worth it back,
Not the best experience. This is the 5th time we’ve stayed here but we have several issues in check-in: we were not happy with the room we were allocated as it was an accessible room on the ground floor, reception did rectify this but upon arrival at the new room there were 2 single beds, not a double that we’d booked. Again, this was rectified but it took up time into our short stay away. We extended check out on our last day by 1 hour, paying an extra £30 for the privilege, only to be disturbed by housekeeping when there was a ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door!
First of all im going to put it out there this Hotel is by no means what so ever a 5 star hotel, i have no idea how it has been awarded that. Lets just bare in mind the Savoy is 5 star. Thats not to say its not a nice hotel its just not 5 star. Such a shame for me the layout of the pool and spa as im semi disabled but the outdoor pool is really really nice. I would say we enjoyed our stay and it is a nice experience, but expectations are set high with a 5 star ranking. The building which i understand is listed so changes cant be made is somewhat disappointing i mean you literally walk in through an unmarked door that resembles a back door in a farm building theres no butlers on that door greeting you. For me its too many corridors and rooms i really want a large open space or lobby etc i know thats because as mentioned its listed etc its just a shame. Breakfast ohhhhhh boi oh boi i mean come on ive stayed in the best 5 star hotels the world has to offer and the pastry, toast meat help yourself section was the worst ive ever seen. The breakfast you order from the al a carte breakfast menu was good thank goodness. With everything said its a good 4 star experiance with some nice bits the pool etc a 4 star basic room thats ok.
Room was nice with comfortable bed. The bathroom was tired and the shower could benefit from a descale. The room we were in was noisy from the outdoor pool. Breakfast average
Excellent pools. Very comfortable rooms. Valet parking an expensive necessity.
Excellent staff and service. The room was clean and the spa was excellent. Service was par excellence across the hotel. Dinner in the restaurant was great too but there are other good restaurants in the vicinity. As for parking, the hotel provides a map of areas where you can park for free in the vicinity.
Stunning hotel inside and out beautiful high ceilings in the bedrooms with chandelier very nice touch the hotel quality with no expense spared I would give this hotel and spa five stars but unfortunately was let down by the food side / restaurant unfortunately…. The evening meal was overpriced for the quality. We had an allowance of £110 between us, which was only enough to cover two courses. You had to buy the meal and extras separately, which added up quickly. Sides like chips or sweet potatoes cost £7, so your main meal would average around £40. Dessert cost £15, and if you was lucky enough to have any money left over in your allowance they kept it! The menu was limited, which is probably why they don’t advertise it online. There weren’t many options, and the prices were high. And to make matters worse, no beverages were included in your allowance. This was only mentioned once you had paid! The restaurant lacked atmosphere and was so quiet that it felt uncomfortable to talk. The breakfast was equally disappointing. The black pudding was extremely dry and hard, like a biscuit. The bacon felt like it was pre-cooked and then re-warmed very fatty. And to top it off, you were given the smallest little metal ramekin that held a spoon of beans! The cheese was dry and left out to air. Premier Inn do a better quality breakfast at a fraction of the price. They charge £25 per person.
Great staff in the cocktail bar. Popped in on Friday afternoon and was very impressed with the bar area. Wonderful to see that it is open to local people. Staff were very friendly and helpful 👍 Highly recommended 👌
We had a lovely stay at Ensana, Buxton Crescent. The room exceeded expectations & the Spa & swimming pool was perfect. The only criticism during our stay was the evening meal at the restaurant. We didn’t feel the food & service given matched the quality you would expect from a 5 star hotel. There are plenty of choices within walking distance of the hotel which we preferred.
I have just returned from an overnight stay in a junior suite at the Buxton crescent Hotel. I booked a spa package with dinner, bed and breakfast, for myself, my daughter and my 21 year old granddaughter. We had a junior suite as that was large enough for all of us to share a room. The main bed was huge, so easily accommodated my daughter and granddaughter, while I had the sofa bed, which was very comfortable. The room is beautiful, with Penhalligan toiletries, which were lovely. The bathroom had a roll top bath and walk in shower and was very large and beautifully appointed. The food was excellent, we had breakfast and dinner, with excellent service. The spa is beautiful. We used the roof top pool, which is kept lovely and warm, plus the indoor thermal pool and a 3rd spa pool. We also had use of the salt cave, which was a 25 minute time slot for the 3 of us to relax in the lovely cave that has a deep layer of salt covering the floor. We all had a facial treatment the next day, which we booked at 11am as we were checking out. We used the valet parking, which took away any stress of trying to find a parking space in a long stay car park. You can park outside to drop off and pick up luggage if you prefer to find your own parking though . All in all, it was a lovely stay and a great way to celebrate my granddaughter's 21st birthday. I am definitely planning a return visit.
Spa is excellent although it was super busy. The check-in wasn’t great. There was a queue of people almost out the door and the second check-in member of staff arrived at her desk 10 mins after check-in began. She then faffed about for a few minutes with her file and computer as the queue grew. It’s not a great first impression.
We had a great time staff are very friendly and helpful the spa is great we had a wonderful time
The spa is awesome, including 3 different pools/sauna's and steam rooms. The ambience is so relaxing ... exactly what we wanted BUT it comes at an high price. The attic rooms are the best value but beware, the bed is only a small double.
Beautiful stay, Beautiful hotel. Staff very accommodating. The spa is one of the best i have ever been in - it is Beautiful. The bar is very well stocked with very friendly staff - especially 2 who gave us advice on different places to visit upon that advice we visited Poole cavern and walked around the local woods thank you Ruth and Evelyn for your advice! The cocktails on offer are wonderful and made to order. The restaurant staff are very friendly and work tirelessly to give you 5 star treatment and food was certainly that. We loved our stay and will be back.
Perfect location for concert at the Opera House. Facilities excellent and staff attentive
Outstanding hotel and spa, not only is the hotel spotlessly clean it is beautifully decorated. The spa in our opinion is one of the best we have ever experienced, with 3 indoor pools and 1 outdoor. Despite the rain we loved sitting in the outdoor pool and hot tub. The water is actually mineral water and so you don’t smell of chlorine all day. We have signed up to their membership scheme and will definitely return.
An excellent hotel, with well trained staff who do listen to you. Great breakfasts with a wide choice of fresh food. Our room was spacious and decently appointed. Only a couple of small points. Emergency exit points would be easier to navigate if they were a bit better signed on the exit route, and perhaps you could reassure guests about the parking arrangements. My wife was worried on this issue. Otherwise a great place to stay. We have tried, over the years, most hotels in Buxton; and Buxton Crescent is the outstanding one!
Wonderful stay from start to finish. Natasha when booking was brilliant and Amy and Keira lovely on checkin/reception. This is my fav hotel the rooms are spacious we had room 118 and my daughters 122 .. just lovely !! The roof pool is the best … perfect overnight getaway. Mary & Rob Smedley, Macclesfield. X
This is an amazing hotel with wonderful staff. The rooms are well designed & comfortable and the spa is incredible!
The most friendly and welcoming smiles on the front desks
The good - Great location - Friendly, welcoming staff both at Reception and in the dining room - Lovely toiletries in the rooms - Comfortable bed - Great breakfast Not so good - We had a Classic Room but there was no dressing table, or even a table, in our room so nowhere to put anything - The only mirrors were in the wardrobe and bathroom. There was a small one tucked behind the TV but there was nowhere to put it - Hardly any storage so we had to keep things in our cases - Very little shelf space in the bathroom - More hooks needed in the bathroom to hang damp or wet towels
A repeat visit for us - excellent hot spring pools, good aircon, decent breakfast (although consistently running out of pastries), nice location
We stayed here for our anniversary. We had an attic room, which was just as described. Bed was comfy and there was water in the room along with some macarons. Hotel is beautiful and we enjoyed the pools. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were great. We also had lunch in the Darwin bar and this was tasty too. We had drinks in the Darwin bar later too and it had a very nice relaxing atmosphere.
Fabulous stay. Great food and one of the best spas we’ve been to. Only negative was that the bathroom shower smelt of bad drain smell and there some sort of heating/boiler noise from outside
Friendly staff, good service and excellent facilities. Spa is very nice with lots of facilities. Room was large and very nicely decorated. Breakfast was also excellent. Highly recommended.
Perfect central location in Buxton. Very accommodating for our dog. Spacious and comfortable room and bathroom. Excellent service at reception. The only negative experience was at breakfast which was understaffed at busy times so slower than we would have liked and some buffet items weren't quickly replenished.
Best spa I’ve been to. Hot pools, 3 saunas. 2 steam rooms. Hotel rooms are nice but not worth the big cost! Great location in Buxton. Not a fully breakfast buffet. Only allowed 1 main dish! £10 for another! Shame they are so strict on check in and check out (15.00 a 11.00). Should be a flexible given the huge room cost!
We booked three nights here expecting it to be a fabulous five star hotel however this is a four star at best. The communal areas and the spa are lovely however the rooms are certainly not those of a five star hotel. Considering the rooms are a reasonable size there is very little storage space for clothes, no mirror except in the bathroom and no toiletries etc. except in shower. Beware if you’re spending extra to have a five star experience.
We stayed here for two nights for our anniversary. The hotel is lovely and has great spa facilities. We were a bit disappointed with a few things though... we had been asked prior to our stay were we celebrating a special occasion and we said yes its our anniversary. Not being presumptuous but other hotels we have stayed at usually provide a room upgrade (when possible) or maybe a bottle of fiz , but not here. Drinks in the bar are very over priced . We ate in the restaurant two nights(as part of our package). We are both vegetarian, there was only two vegetarian options on the menu (so its lucky we didn't stay longer than two nights). The portions were very small and definitely not worth the amount charged, £26 for a quarter of a roasted curried cauliflower heart (literally just cauliflower ). No rice or any accomplishments whatsoever. At the end of our stay we noticed over £35 worth of gratuities (tips) were automatically added on to the bill , we prefer to be asked if we wish to leave a tip.
Amazing place and spa
Good points my wife rated the spar the best shes ever been to with facilities amazing . The two breakfasts we had was allso excellent. The blip was i booked a two night stay as a surprise for our wedding anniversary and my wife finishing her twelfth cancer treatment, we were booked in for monday the 1st till wensday 3rd September, on the Monday we wanted to eat in the restaurant for our Anniversary after ordering our meals the fire Alarm went of so was told to leave then told it was a false Alarm the lovely lady serving us told us there would be a further 20 minutes delay when eventually the meals came out my wifes wasnt edible and she sent it back i did eat mine even tho it wasnt the best after waiting 45 minutes my wife left upset and went back to the room .we didnt have to pay for my meal and recived 2 free drinks but it was a bit of a disaster to be honest but the reat of the stay was excellent.
Went for our wedding anniversary absolutely brilliant staff amazing and breakfast faultless the only negative I would say is you could here other guests waking around on the apartment above us which seemed quite loud
The place was nice the facility was very good the service was disappointing the food in the restaurant was average not many signs or indication what to do or what this doors were to go the parking was disappointing and very expensive for such quality of a hotel I will always recommend for the spa nothing else. Stay there two nights the cleanliness of the room wasn't very up to standard naughty no coffee no water not soap no bathrooms no towels no hand towels no face wash very disappointing
First of this the place to stay in the Peak District. Second it reminds me of the Royal 🤴 Crescent hotel 🏨 in Bath 🛀. Third my room was just paradise. Fourth the restaurant was great 😊. Fifth the hotel 🏨 has a great 😌 lobby . Fifth the outdoor pool 🏊♂️ is the best outdoor pool 🏊♂️ in the British Isles. Lastly, the people who work here are very nice 😊.
All round great experience will definitely be coming back
We had two fab days in Buxton and overall enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in a superior room overlooking the crescent. The room was nice and elegantly furnished. I wouldn’t say I was blown away and think the rooms are very expensive. We booked this stay during Black Friday and although you had to pay in full at the time of booking, we got 30% off. The stay still cost over £600 for two nights so if you do the math it’s pretty expensive and I wouldn’t pay over £400 a night to stay in this room. No body lotion in the bathroom. Two small waters were provided in the fridge .The staff are all lovely however and you perfectly located for all the bars and restaurants and walks from the town. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but highly recommend Simply Thai and Baileys. You are spoilt for choice of places to eat within walking distance and we struggled to choose. We didn’t use the valet parking as again I think that’s crazy expensive compared to how cheap parking is in Buxton. We parked in the station car park which has 56 spaces. There were plenty on a Friday afternoon and you use the ringo app to pay. It cost us £13.60 for the whole weekend and it’s about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Breakfast both days was a tale of two halves. The first morning it ran like clockwork. The second we were seated and then more or less ignored. We had to ask for tea, to order, then we got the next tables order. It was like faulty towers but all good food and well cooked when it came. The hotel has some amazing qualities, none more so than its architecture and the spa. We didn’t have any treatments but made use of the facilities whilst we were there which are excellent. I was also surprised as it was my birthday with a small chocolate macaroon. Reception staff and concierge are all lovely and pleasant and helpful. Some things I feel let it down like a £10 tray charge to bring you a wine glass or an ice bucket! You’re paying in excess of £300 a night to stay here! Come on Ensana you can do better than that! The parking I feel as I mentioned previously is also so expensive compared to the area prices and breakfast a little chaotic at busy times. That said you can’t stay in a better location and we had a great time.
Everything about the hotel was lovely except the flip flops in the room!!! They were clearly used. It doesn’t cost much to provide a new pair and from a foot health perspective a necessity!
Had a wonderful one night's stay at TG he Crescent Buxton. Staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Room was great. Lovely bed on which I had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was delicious and staff were very attentive and friendly. All in all a great visit. Thank you we will be returning 😊
Great place to spend time with friends. Staff were very helpful. Facilities were excellent. Location was perfect. Breakfast was fabulous and great choices for all.
Excellent service and facilities just the room sleeping conditions were lets just say very noisy.
60th birthday treat. Booked relaxing package with Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for 1 night. Room upgraded before arrival. Excellent room. Felt very pampered. Fantastic spa treatments and amenities. Restaurant and food were lovely and we were looked after by the staff.
Unfortunately, as our concerns were dismissed at checkout and the manager has not responded despite several opportunities, we now feel we have no option but to share our experience publicly and raise the matter with environmental health. It is extremely disappointing to pay 5-star prices only to encounter such issues, and it is sadly not surprising the business is up for sale if it continues to be managed in this way. This situation could have been resolved quickly and privately had there been a timely and professional response. Instead, when I called to confirm receipt of the email, , I was told, “we will get round to it at some point, if we get chance”—a particularly troubling response given that our concerns relate to hygiene standards and the reason I have shared on day 13, as there is clearly no intent to respond. This review is a copy of our complaint, so that other guests can remain vigilant and make an informed choice. If these are the standards presented publicly, one can only wonder what may be happening behind the scenes. 10th August 2025. Dear Buxton Crescent, Hotel Manager, Following the unsatisfactory response from your reception staff this morning to our complaint upon our departure, we feel it necessary to escalate this issue with a formal written complaint to the senior management team, regarding our recent stay at your hotel. We had hoped our concerns would be addressed promptly at check-out, allowing us to leave confident that action would be taken and appropriate follow up response offered for the failure to meet advertised standards. Unfortunately, this was not the case and we are not confident that the concerns will be addressed. Our stay began well, with a pleasant welcome, beautifully relaxing afternoon... the spa facilities and our room meeting expectations and reflecting the hotel’s 5-star claims. However, the quality of service quickly declined with both of our restaurant experiences, falling well below the standard expected of any food establishment, let alone what we would expect from a 5* hotel. Dinner Service (Redacted as this is about standard of service, rather than something to share with others) While the food was really enjoyable, the service and training expected at a 5-star hotel was below expectations. Staff seemed eager but were noticeably lacking in confidence, knowledge, and hospitality experience. Breakfast Service The breakfast experience was deeply concerning and wholly unacceptable for any food establishment, particularly one advertised as 5-star. As someone familiar and compliant with relevant requirements from the hospitality industry and currently, food standard agency requirements and environmental health, I was alarmed by significant lapses in hygiene and service. Upon our arrival at 9:35am, we observed at least seven tables within sight that remained uncleared and remained so until approximately 10:50am-11:20 when staff started to clear them, slowly, despite multiple staff being available and very few guests present throughout this time. Our own table remained sticky and unclean throughout and the menu's had food stuck to them and sticky, both on our table and the next. Menus and used serviettes were left on chairs across from us, milk and juice at the buffet were nearly empty and unreplenished, and no clean bowls were available. When I requested bowls, I felt as though I was imposing, and when I raised hygiene concerns to the staff getting the bowls, she completely ignored me, didn't speak and simply got the bowls and walked away, silent. I did not make an issue of this at the time, however, deeply troubled by any lack of acknowledgement, respect, care or understanding that the environment was a mess and dirty, or failure to mention this to a manager. The buffet area was untidy, with spilled cereal, abandoned drinks, and open wrappers. Staff frequently stood idle, appearing disinterested and untrained. Despite only half a dozen tables being occupied, drinks took 30 minutes to arrive, after prompting the staff and food 50 minutes. When drinks arrived, the waitress spilled milk without apologising or cleaning it, and the tea pot was dangerously overfilled with scalding water, difficult for me to pour. Furthermore, the milk for my partners coffee was not in a pouring jug and impossible to pour, for what reason this had been done, I don't know. When arriving with the breakfast, the waitress did not place this down with care and clearly had little serving experience. Additional issues included a waitress, on her way to another table with food, dropping beans on the floor and failed to clean them up, and we later observed a young member of staff looking confused at the serving counter, moving tickets around then telling another member of staff member that she was confused, asking for help as she didn't know what each plate was and mixed them up; a deeply concerning risk for guests with allergies, such as myself. The breakfast manager appeared disengaged and lacked the confidence, accountablity or responsibility to address the evident problems. The food itself was substandard, unlike the previous night and staff interactions were at times rude and unwelcoming. However, while our overall experience was disappointing, we do wish to commend (staff name given), who was trying her best, attentive, wanting to be helpful, professional, do her job well and genuinely pleasant, unfortunately an exception to the rule. We strongly feel that with support, guidance, positive role models and stronger leadership, she could be a strong member of the team with a good career ahead of her. Additional Concerns At check-out, my partner’s attempt to raise these concerns with reception was met with a sense of indifference and insufficient customer care. Although the receptionist apologised and indicated the issues would be raised in a team meeting, the response lacked any sincerity, urgency or clear follow-up. My partner advised that we had taken photo's and advised we would be emailing these in, to which she acknowledged that would be helpful, however, her overall handling felt dismissive. Before leaving, I used the public ladies’ restroom near reception and was appalled to find two toilets blocked with paper and faeces and one with floating faeces and visible waste on the sides, and poorly functioning flushes. This situation is unacceptable and requires urgent attention or more frequent maintenance. Summary and Request Having booked a premium 5-star experience, we were disappointed to find that the service and standards more closely resembled those of a 2 or 3-star hotel, despite the building and facilities being beautiful. The lack of staff training, poor organisation, and inadequate attention to hygiene significantly impacted our stay and marred what was meant to be a memorable occasion. With our knowledge and experience in food standards and environmental health, we wanted to bring these concerns to your attention to support you in addressing the issues promptly and making any necessary improvements. We trust you understand the value of timely action in maintaining your business’s reputation and TripAdvisor rating, as well as ensuring compliance with environmental health guidelines. Please find attached photos we captured to support our concerns. In light of these significant shortcomings, we kindly request details of the corrective actions you plan to implement. (Redacted further as unnecessary for this review) Please provide a response outlining your proposed steps within 14 days. Kind Regards (Gues names)
I booked for dinner, bed and breakfast, and I felt I got a very competitive rate for a five star hotel. I booked an attic room, and had expected it just to have a roof light. I was pleasantly surprised that it had a window which let in a lot of light in spite of the fact that there was a colonnade the other side of it. Service in the restaurant was polite and courteous and the food was cooked to a high standard.
I was hugely disappointed with my visit. Even my partner who is not very bothered usually was very disappointed. The room was really dusty and there was clumps of hair hanging out of the bin. We got upgraded after complaining but even then we turned up to dirty pots outside the room and pots missing from the room. The spa was only ok. There were little bugs in the aroma steam room drain jumping about and the relaxation pool had stuff floating in. I think the price is too high for the experience. That being said, the staff were really good.
We stayed for one night, the room was comfortable and spacious. We were slightly disappointed our room wasn’t ready until exactly 3pm though, we felt that they just didn’t allow an earlier check in without paying extra. We appreciated the air con and black out curtains in the room! The spa was very well maintained, clean and comfortable without being too crowded. We had a massage and our therapists were very friendly and we enjoyed the treatments. Location was very central, lots of cafes and shops around but parking a nightmare so we last minute added the hotels valet service. Quite pricey at £30 but it had to be done unless we parked miles away! The food was average. Breakfast was minimal, the fruit selection was poor and I do prefer a buffet style so I can choose what goes on my plate. The a la carte selection was good, but then the actual food was abit substandard and we didn’t enjoy it. Glad we didn’t eat there in the evening as the prices were high and judging breakfast might have been disappointing! Overall though a beautiful hotel with friendly service and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
We booked this last minute as a bank holiday breakaway. Felt it was very good value compared to a lot of other bank holiday offers. The room was immaculately clean and the bed was comfortable and it was quiet , central location. We did not use the spa as we planned to be out and about exploring . There is lots of free parking around the hotel and reception, give you a helpful map to support this or you can valet park at a cost. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss . A lady with red hair works really hard but there seemed to be a lot of younger staff hanging around I noticed her speak to one of them and they rolled their eyes at her once she had gone. Both days the full Derbyshire breakfast was a little bit overcooked and the portion seemed small it didn’t have a wow factor. I had poached eggs and avocado on sourdough one day. The sourdough was very hard and the avocado was more like guacamole paste, tasted very citrusy more in line with a Mexican meal than breakfast. The toaster was brilliant best ever as never think those toaster machines are the best either burnt or not cooked but definitely got it right for toast. Orange juice and coffees were standard as with pastries. I felt the fruit salad was not the best looked like it had been hanging around and limp. All staff were friendly and welcoming and I would return as hotel was in a great location I would return and recommend.
The spa facilities are great! And mostly the service was good too. But the fact we pay so much and when we ask for water bottles for the room they charge £1 a bottle was crazy! Also the breakfast on a whole was great .....again they charged if you ordered 2 plates but I think this was to prevent wastage! The hotel itself partially seemed old. The room wasn't as clean as I'd expect. Also they had very different rooms and we got 2 rooms and got very different rooms.
Fabulous stay at the Crescent Hotel in Buxton. From the moment we arrived to when we checked out, we were looked after very well. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. The Spa area is very nice, the outdoor Spa pool is great and the Gym is well equipped. Will certainly look to return.
It was a disappointing stay. Although the building is undoubtedly beautiful, the room we were given was not even clean. There were hairs on the chair and hair grips on the floor which stayed there for our two night stay. No additional toiletries in the room like you get in other quality hotels, hard towels, dated furniture and although we asked for a quiet room, we were backed on to a busy road. The breakfast was the worst we have ever had - cold, hard bacon, hard poached eggs and lipstick on my teacup. No fresh fruit, just soggy day old 'fruit salad' - just melon and apple. We were going to eat in the restaurant but the breakfast experience meant we cancelled. There was no atmosphere in the hotel, as bars and seating areas all mostly empty. Not even a newspaper to tempt us to sit around or some nice music. Staff hanging around with little to do. The spa was not that great either, and the staff very unhelpful. We were new to the place and wanted to be shown around and they told us to come back with flip flops on and looked at us as if we were vagrants because we had not put our dressing gowns on as we wanted to see the place first. Our view is that it is overpriced for the quality it serves up - really the breakfast was terrible - and seems to be mostly empty with very long corridors. It needs a central hub to attract the guests, better food and less robotic staff. So, a let down for us I'm afraid.
Beautiful hotel with fabulous facilities and helpful staff. Drinks in the bar were quite pricey.
Just returned from a wonderful two-night stay at Buxton Crescent hotel. Room immaculate and roomy. Hotel staff all very helpful, particularly Karen on reception who was very welcoming and informative. Given excellent information on where to park free of charge near the hotel. Spa was relaxing and not over-crowded, which made for a pleasant feedback. Small yet well-equipped gym. Would love to return if I visit the are again and would thoroughly recommend. Central location excellent.
We stayed for a two night mid-week stay. The hotel is located centrally in the town, lovely regency style building. Check in staff very helpful, our double room was well furnished and comfortable the bathroom was large, the whole hotel was very clean. We ate dinner in the hotel on the first night, the food was only average and very overpriced, the young waiting staff need some training to raise the level of service a little. Breakfast was OK. We didn’t use the spa so can’t comment. We did use the bar and found it comfortable and a nice place to relax after dinner. With the proximity of pubs and restaurants close by it’s hard for the hotel to compete. No dedicated parking so we used the valet parking at £30 a day, there are on street options but we didn’t want the added hassle of finding a space. Staff we found to be helpful and friendly, it was a one off stay for us as it’s doubtful we’d be in the area again. We did enjoy our stay, but would recommend taking dinner out locally.
Lovely hotel however there is no on site parking. Staff forgot to inform me that valet parking is available. I strongly recommend that!
Had two glorious nights in a deluxe room and decided to stay for a third. Third night room was a classic and felt very cramped. Son was in an attic room and said the same. But everything else about the rooms was great, and the staff were friendliness itself!
Staffs are friendly and helpful.
Comfortable central hotel in Buxton with an excellent thermal water pool -- indoor and outdoor. Good breakfast and good wifi. A repeat visit for us.
Over 6 years ago my family visited Buxton for the day. We walked past the crescent hotel whilst deep in renovations. The signage outside stated that a huge renovation was taking place, and that a Luxury Spa Hotel would be created. 6 years later my husband and I finally came to visit on our anniversary. It was well worth the wait! The building has been beautifully restored, the hotel is luxurious and the staff are very attentive. We stayed in the Junior Suite. It was fabulous! The hotel kindly upgraded us when they heard it was our anniversary- very grateful we were. The spa was amazing, one of the best I have been too. We didn’t have any treatments. We spent a couple of hours in the afternoon enjoying the spa facilities then in the morning before we had breakfast. The service we received was excellent from the initial booking to our check out. We chose to use the valet parking as we didn’t know the area and didn’t want to spend ages looking for a parking spot. This process was very efficient, although a tad pricy in my opinion. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a short stay/treat. You would not be disappointed! We hope to return again in the future!
Beautiful building. Disappointing hotel.
Beautiful building with lots of history and flair. Mostly well renovated. The room was fantastic. Unfortunately, the staff isn't on the level expected of a five-star place. First, we were informed two weeks after we booked the place, that our booking combination isn't possible. We booked two adults and a 16-year-old in a double room (with an expected added bed). The website allowed this (and it still does). Only after protesting, we got the offer of an upgrade to a suite with a slight discount. The staff at the restaurant are hopelessly out of their depth. We had one dinner with good food but absolutely miserable service. Breakfast is good, but you also need to plan to wait forever for anything.
A repeat visit for us. The hot spring is excellent (even though the main indoor pool was a hotter than the super-nice temperature on previous occasions), breakfast is good, rooms are comfortable (although aircon was not working well this time and one had to sleep with open windows, it was reasonably quiet), convenient parking nearby
The room was lovely, spacious, bathrooms are stunning. Was surprised not to see a small vanity kit with cotton buds, a shower cap etc. Spa is lovely, a good range of facilities and never too busy. Be careful about what paid services you pick- I had a hydro bath massage which was just a bath with some bubbles and lights- not worth the money. This place is really let down by its restaurant. Extremely expensive food, we came from London and you wouldn’t pay these prices in a hotel there. Food wasn’t good either - overcooked and we waited a long time for it on both nights. Clearly there were issues in the kitchen so it all seemed chaotic. Breakfast also disappointing- overdone and cold. We were there for a special occasion so spent money on champagne which was served to us completely warm. Big thanks to the reception manager who got this resolved for us but the staff are clearly lacking training, which is not their fault. Overall- hotel and spa are lovely, but don’t eat here.
Nice hotel but requires a few adjustments. The rooms are really nice and everywhere is very clean. We arrived early and left our luggage, we went for lunch then went back to pick our sun glasses up, our luggage had been taken to our room and we were able to go up and get our glasses but not allowed to checkin till 3pm! I have never come across this and we stay in a lot of hotels. Spa is nice but the out door pool is far too small not enough relaxing furniture and lacks ambience. Also towels need to be in the changing rooms as well as other areas in the spa. If you want to use this facility before checkin then its £40.00 per person (this is for 2hrs pre or post checkin) I am so glad we didn’t pay for this as there was no room to relax by the pool. Due to the fact we couldn’t checkin till 3pm and wanted to use the spa which was very busy as everyone comes in at the same time. They also charge £30.00 for parking which is very expensive, we didn’t have to pay this as we were able to park on the street for free. Breakfast was very average and the service was very slow they seemed very disorganised. The bar was nice. The staff were friendly. Its the little things that make all the difference and just few adjustments this hotel could be amazing.
The main thermal pool in the basement was unfortunately too hot during this particular visit. We've stayed several times before; this was the first time the water was uncomfortably hot (there could have been a on-off problem with the heat regulation valve). Our room at the corner of the building was quiet, well air-conditioned and comfortable. The breakfast was decent but they ran out of croissants and other pastries pretty early on and failed to replenish the tray. I don't see why they couldn't keep the tray filled until 10.30 AM so hotel guests arriving later for breakfast could have some pastries too. The hotel could also serve better quality sourdough bread at the self-service breakfast counter instead of cheap sliced bread containing preservatives and additives.
